S2W: A Midlife Crisis

Recommended Posts

I glanced up at the clock above my television set. 11:30. Time to turn on Dick Clark, and whatever floozies he happened to be co-hosting with this year. "Hey, you want another beer?" I muttered my assent, and grabbed the bottle that was tossed to me. Saul sat down beside me, twisting open the top of his own. "To 2009 and beyond." We toasted, and relaxed. Unfortunately, other than the two of us, the place was empty. The last two years had been spent living and breathing S2W, and I really hadn't had the time to cultivate (or maintain) my outside friendships. I'd invited a couple of the workers to come over, but Matt was hanging out with his family, Joey was flying back to England, and Al...well, he'd never gotten back to me. Whatever. Just the two of us, in my apartment. Smaller than it had been two years ago, since I'd had to take a pay cut to join Saul, but I was still doing better than he was. He was crashing on my couch more often than not; the two hundred a month he had his company paying himself just wasn't enough to cover most of his bills. It seemed, though, that the same thoughts were running throug his mind. "Jack," he started. "I've been thinking. I really want to recoup my investment in this company, sooner rather than later. I'm confident that the two of us can make this work. I like what you've been doing with my money, and your overspending has gotten us a decent reputation rather quickly." Here he paused, and I waited for it. I knew what was coming. "Jack, I'm giving you two years to make us some money. I'm sure you can do it, and I'll even go easy on you. Just have more by new years eve 2011 than we do now, and you've met your goal.: I took a swig of my beer, finishing it off. "And if I don't?" We'd reached the countdown. Mourning the fact that we didn't have anyone to kiss, I turned off the tv before it hit 0. Saul had been using that as a delay, though. He sighed. "Well, you've managed to garner quite a reputation as a booker apparently. I'm sure you could find a job with another company. I hear you've had some offers already, even." Which was true, but I'd done my best to keep that from him. "So you'd fire me, then?" "Jack, it wouldn't be personal. But four years with three hundred thousand starting funds? I know you can do it, just consider this a little extra incentive." I nodded, and then crawled off to my bed, leaving the couch and those thoughts to Saul. Making money would mean some changes would have to be made--cutting back on salaries, keeping a closer eye on how much we spend. Slow going, for sure. Saul and I continued to agree on everything else that needed to be done; more prestige, athletic workers, drug-free, nothing onerous. It was the money that would prove to be the hard one to manage.

Newsbites Perhaps boosted by their 2008 Best Promotion award, Supreme Wrestling Federation has regained it's former status in the eyes of the world, and is now being regarded as a Global Promotion once more. S2W Preview The Alliance continues to crumble, this time as former champion Fox Mask has departed S2W, thanks to a lucrative contract offer from SWF. The rankings show the change that results from that departure. Eight men have been chosen, and they will face off at Raising the Roof for the right to earn a shot at the S2W Championship! Al Coleman draws the easiest seed, as our first ever champion looks for a chance to get back into the title picture. -vs- Raphael is a newcomer to S2W who has yet to make an impact, drawing the 8th seed in the tournament. Harry Wilson has been with S2W since the beginning, but has yet to manage to climb to the top of the ladder. Will this tournament be his big chance? -vs- Alan Parent reacted harshly to not being chosen to participate in the tournament last year, so Saul Stewart decided to give his shot this year. He comes into the tournament as the 5th seed. Tempest Appleby is a former champion, but has fell on hard times since then. Still, he's a shoo-in for a tournament spot, and enters as the third seed. -vs- Elijah Harris (6th seed) has been a long-time veteran in S2W, and looks to reach for the top. Thomas Morgan, last years wrestler of the year, gets the nod here, coming in at the 7th seed position. Can he make it to the finals and come away with the big win he needs? -vs- Titan comes in with the second seed. The big man has been dominant in his time with S2W, and it's clearly only a matter of time until he holds the championship gold. Also on the card, The Degenerates take on the Amazon Wanderers with the S2W Tag Team Championship on the line. Matthew Gauge is also in action, as Saul Stewart has decided that Nate Johnson deserves a rematch for the S2W Championship, and this match will be contested at Raising the Roof. Ted Ross: Not to mention two championship matches! Matthew Gauge gets to humiliate Johnson... RR: That's right! The S2W Championship is on the line tonight, and the Degenerates look to defend their titles against The Amazon Wanderers! TR: I wasn't finished. RR: Yes, you were. It's time for the anniversary tournament to begin. TR: But, I needed to make fun of Nate Johnson. RR: Later, Ted. The match was fairly quick, though, with both men getting a touch of offense before Coleman got the win. Al Coleman in 5:41 by Pinfall (D-) Thomas Morgan: Yes, I have a match coming up, but that's not why I'm out here right now. See, the last few times I've come out, this joker in the back named Joey Beauchamp has decided it would be fun to attack me. Joey, I know you're having troubles winning matches right now, but that's not my problem. What my problem is--is you. So, consider this a challenge to you, Joey. You can add me to the long list of people who've beaten you. (E) Match 2 Round 1 Matchup #4 Titan -vs- #18 Thomas Morgan A decent match showcasing mixed styles. Morgan tried to take to the air, while Titan used his power to his advantage. The Titanic Choke Slam would be the deciding factor. (Ross: He should have stayed focused on his opponent tonight instead of challenging Beauchamp!) Titan in 7:56 by Titanic Choke Slam Pinfall (D-) Match 3 Round 1 Matchup #8 Tempest Appleby -vs- #5 Elijah Harris Appleby came out with a swagger, seemingly confident in his ability to win the opening round matchup. Harris quickly changed his attitude, and the two worked back and forth for a while, Harris slowly gaining the upper hand. There was a ref bump, and during it, both men tumbled outside. Appleby went for a chair shot...but the ref woke up in time to see it, and called for the bell, to the former champ's dismay. Elijah Harris in 6:57 by Disqualification (D-) Match 4 Round 1 Matchup #7 Harry Wilson -vs- #6 Alan Parent The longest match of the evening thus far, unfortunately also proved to be the dullest. Wilson went technical on Parent, who seemingly bided his time. He kicked out of a number of pinning predicaments before the referee took his second bump of the evening...this one could have been considered purposeful. With the ref out, Parent decked Wilson with a set of brass knuckles and quickly locked on a submission hold. Wilson woke up before the ref, and started fighting, but was unable to break the hold. When the ref woke up, Wilson immediately tapped. Alan Parent in 9:46 by Submission (E). Alan Parent: I think I've just proven why it was a mistake to overlook me last year, and why I'm going to win the tournament this year. My next matchup is against Al Coleman...well, Al, you had your chance to shine. This year, the trophy is mine. (F+) Match 5 for the S2W Tag Team Championship The Degenerates (Champions) -vs- The Amazon Wanderers It quickly became apparent that the Amazons had stepped up their game, and they overwhelmed the tag champs with good teamwork and fast tagging from the opening bell. The fast pace quickly tired out Tubbs, who tagged to K-Squared and started panting in the corner. Squared, unfortunately, needed a tag quite quickly, and when one wasn't available, he rolled out of the ring. To the frustration of the challengers, The Degenerates grabbed their belts and left the ringside area. Ash Campbell in 6:40 by Countout over K-Squared (D-) Still S2W Tag Team Champions, The Degenerates Matthew Gauge: Didn't you learn last month, Nate? Last month, I grabbed you with the Proton Lock. It was only through my mercy that you were able to walk out of the Weston Gymnasium one month ago. Tonight, you and I face off in the ring again. I don't know why you are doing this to yourself. Tonight, I show no mercy. Tonight, I destroy any chance you ever have of winning this belt. (E+) Match 6 Semi-Finals #4 Titan -vs- #5 Elijah Harris The match could have been better. Though both men put up a good fight, Titan would take the victory again, to move into the finals. Titan in 9:27 by Titanic Choke Slam Pinfall (E). Al Coleman: Earlier tonight, Alan Parent was out here running his mouth. Well, I don't intend to do that. Alan, get out here, and I'll show you that actions speak louder than words. (F+) Match 7 Semi-Finals #3 Al Coleman -vs- #6 Alan Parent Coleman had more rest going into this match, and it quickly showed, as Parent was forced to the defensive quickly. Just as quickly, he started moving to the dirty tricks to try to win--thumb to the eye, feet on the ropes, etc. Coleman countered every time, and finally locked Parent into a submission that he couldn't escape from. Al Coleman in 12:56 by Submission (D-) Match 8 For the Anniversary Tournament Championship #3 Al Coleman -vs- #4 Titan Titan wasted no time after Parent left the ring to rush in himself, hoping to catch the wily Coleman off guard, but Al was ready for him. This match was a brutal brawl from bell to bell, with neither man leaving anything behind. Coleman would get a number of near falls, and escape a number of choke slams, but fall pray to a small package when Titan grabbed the clothes. Titan in 12:38 by Pinfall (D-) Titan wins the 2009 Anniversary Tournament Match 9 for the S2W Championship #1 Matthew Gauge (Champion) -vs- #2 Nate Johnson Not as good as their gem last month, but a good match nonetheless that made for a good main event. Johnson had evidently scouted Gauge more since last month, and provided a counter for most of the champions moves, getting him down into a number of near falls. Gauge's frustration grew with every passing minute that he couldn't get the challenger down. When he finally got the Proton Lock in, in the center of the ring no less, he gave an obvious smile of relief. Unfortunately, Johnson proved equal to that challenge as well, and got to the ropes. Gauge left the ring, while the referee chastised him. Johnson went to drag him back in, only to end up with a faceful of championship belt. Nate Johnson in 14:15 by Disqualification (D) Still S2W Champion, Matthew Gauge Remmington Remus: After that despicable show of sportsmanship... Ted Ross: Smart wrestling. RR: Whatever. We're out of time. Obviously there will be consequences, but we'll find out what they are next month! See you then. I wasn't too happy with how many of my intended storylines and mini-lines this month ended up with tainted endings to matches, but the crowd didn't seem to care too much. It worked, I guess, to an extent, though our run of D shows ended with this one. The crowd did complain about one thing, though--apparently Alan Parent was used too much. Guess with our recent new blood, he's just not popular enough. Final Rating: D- Cheater's Notes No comment needed. Popularity in Tri-State to 16.2%. (+0.6%) Prestige to 14.2% (+0.1%)

Newsbites The wrestling industry gains in all aspects this month, as PWHits Magazine reports that SWF has competition at the top. North of the Border Pro Wrestling rides the backs of the Stones to become a Global promotion, becoming one of the top two in North America. They are joined on the cover of the same magazine by fellow rising stars 5 Star Supreme Wrestling (rising to Cult) and 4C (Regional). Tempest Appleby supposedly is moping after his poor performance in the Anniversary Tournament, and has demanded that somebody meet him in the ring so that he can get his momentum back. Who will meet this challenge, and will Appleby manage to come out on top? Finally, the Sanders Cousins get a shot at the S2W Tag Team Championship when they meet the Degenerates in tag team action.

The third time is when you finally get me where you want me, pin my shoulders to the mat, and claim the S2W Championship? Right? Wrong. Tonight, I'm going to do what I've been promising to do for three months now. Tonight, I am going to end you. Now, it's become somewhat customary in a situation like this to demand a concession from the challenger. Like, for instance, that if you lose, you never get another shot while I hold the belt. Well, I'm not going to do that. I'm going one better. Nate, if you lose tonight, you walk out of S2W, and you don't come back. No title shots, no contract. As long as I walk these halls, you don't. It was obvious from the beginning that this match wasn't as much about the championship as it was about Johnson's career. Gauge seemed bound and determined to send the third member of the Alliance packing from S2W, and he wasn't hesitant about his methods. Johnson, for his part, seemed just as determined to stay, and wouldn't stay still long enough for a Proton Lock, or down long enough to even get a two count. Back and forth, both men pressing the advantage when they had it. Finally, though, Johnson tired out just enough that he found himself unable to escape the Proton Lock in time...and it got locked in. Even then, though, he fought the pain off for almost two full minutes before tapping his job away. Newsbites Some news from across the oceans this month. For starters, The European Wrestling Alliance was formed this month, looking to bring some new blood to the wrestling scene in Europe after the rash of closings lately. A few days later, Elemental II announced that he was getting too old, and was going to retire from active competition, and the world mourned the loss of a great one. In more local news, I was surprised to discover my name among the list of 'Best Bookers in the World' recently published. Apparently, my skills in that arena are rated as High. Apparently Saul was right back on New Years Eve. More news from S2W, as we are sad to announce that due to financial concerns, we have parted ways with color commentator Ted Ross. With me this month, and for the forseeable future, owner of S2W, Saul Stewart! Saul Stewart: Yeah, I thought about the dead weight that was Ted Ross, and I knew I could do better. So I ditched him. RR: Now, that's not very nice. SS: Be grateful I didn't take your job, too. RR: But... SS: Shut up, and watch this video I had our production department put together. I think you'll like it. A video screen is lowered over the ring, and a video plays, highlighting Matthew Gauge's career thus far. It shows him knocking multiple men out of the ring to win the S2W Championship in the battle royal. It shows him turning on Tempest Appleby the next month. It shows snippets of the matches with Tempest Appleby and Fox Mask...but then it goes into Gauge destroying Nate Johnson, time and again, clips from the brutal spots in their matches. It ends with a shot of Johnson's face after he lost last month. (E+) SS: Wonderful stuff, that. RR: But... SS: Shush. Let's go backstage for a reaction from the locker room. Casey Valentine: A reaction? To that dreck that you were just showing back here? I have one reaction, and one reaction only. Matthew Gauge, you are a hack. I want you in the ring tonight, and I want it to be for your championship belt. Now get this camera out of my face until he answers. (D) Thomas Morgan has wandered out into the crowd, talking with the folks watching the show, and in general just being a good spirit. That's when Joey Beauchamp literally charged at him, chair in hand. Morgan tried to fight him off, but just couldn't do so. (F+) Match 1 #15 Thomas Morgan -vs- #20 Joey Beauchamp It was obvious from the beginning that Morgan was feeling the effects of the brutal attack only moments before, but this was a scheduled match and both men were in the ring, so the bell was rung. Beauchamp lorded his domination over Morgan, taunting him time and again, even going so far as to pick up Morgan's shoulder himself after a two count. As he strutted around the ring after that one, though, Morgan got to his feet, and the fight was on in earnest. Without the sneak attack to keep him momentum up, Beauchamp started struggling, and eventually resorted to a thumb in the eye followed by grabbing the tights on a rollup to get the victory. Joey Beauchamp in 14:40 by Pinfall (D+) Matthew Gauge: Casey, were you not watching that video? I destroy careers! Look at who I've faced for this belt since I've been here. Tempest Appleby--he's lucky he's a has-been now. Fox Mask? He ran with his tail between his legs. And Nate Johnson? He literally lost his career to me. So if I were you, I wouldn't be so eager to jump into the ring with the S2W champion. But since you asked so nicely, get your *** out here so I can do to you what I've done to everyone else who's fought me. (D) Match 2 for the S2W Championship #1 Matthew Gauge (Champion) -vs- #13 Casey Valentine Oh my god...I did not see this one coming. This match surpassed last month's offering in every conceivable manner. It was longer. Had better spots. And was, without any doubt in the world, the absolute best match that S2W has ever EVER had. This match blew away everyone at the arena, leaving Remus in the dust. And just when it looked like Gauge had destroyed another challenger, Valentine came alive...a series of punches, a powerslam, and a pinfall attempt....and a HUGE upset! Casey Valentine in 26:06 by Pinfall (C) Remmington Remus: Did you see that folks? We have a new champion in S2W! This is awesome, this is tremendous! I'm absolutely beside myself. I'm... Saul Stewart: Out of time. Good bye everyone.
Quick Results Joey Beauchamp over Thomas Morgan (D+) Casey Valentine over Matthew Gauge (C) to win the S2W Championship
Booker's Notes We had 125 people here for the best show and the best match we've ever had. I'm still absolutely stunned by this match (and at the time I write this line, I've simmed into 2015). There were no chemistry notes between the two, it was just an absolutely outstanding match. Unfortunately, this silver lining comes with a cloud. Remember last show how I said it was only the beginning? Well, Matt Gauge has moved on, and I was only JUST able to sneak in a title upset in time. It was a shame, too, because I had a nice long run waiting for him. Still, when TCW calls, he jumps. He was our champion for pretty much his entire run with us, from his first match until his last. Ah well. Final Rating: C- Cheater's Notes A longer section this month, and with a good reason. Newsbites To their dismay (and NOTBPW's delight), SWF was once again called "merely a cult-level sensation" by the Monthly Wrestling Press. S2W Preview Matthew Gauge was offered a contract by TCW, and has departed the company, leaving a void in the rankings behind him. Morgan came out frustrated over his inability to get another match with Beauchamp, and he took it out on Parent who struggled to get any offense going. But am I worried? No, and let me tell you why. I've spent years wandering the fiercest jungles, spending time with natives who know how to fight. I've taken down the big man before, in the jungles of the Amazon, along the banks of the Nile, in the peaks of the Himalayas. I've seen them all, and let me tell you, they all go down the same. Hard. A classic bout of speed versus strength, with Titan manhandling Casey every time he got hold of him, and Valentine doing his best to stay away from the big man, using hit and run tactics. In the end, though, Casey just outlasted the big man, and managed to get a pinfall as Titan started tiring. Newsbites Citing an increasing lack of funds, S2W has announced that starting with July's show (From the Ashes), all of their cards at the Weston Gymnasium will be scheduled for just half an hours length. What effect this will have on their product is unknown, but a company spokesman was heard to mention that they hoped it was only a temporary measure. S2W Preview New man at the top of the totem pole, as Casey Valentine's decisive win over Titan last month causes those two to switch places. The winner gets a title shot next month as Tough Love. Also, in a rematch of sorts, singles action from the tag team scene as Amber Allen goes one on one with half of the tag team champions, K-Squared.

Wilson, meanwhile, has continually been denied ownership of S2W's singles belt, and is training hard to claim it this time out. He looks to duplicate the performance this month. On the S2W Championship front, the quiet retirement of the S2W Tag Team Championship met with outrage from the former champions. Our owner, Saul Stewart, decided that one of the two men who lost their belt will meet our S2W Champion Casey Valentine this month, and the title will be on the line! K-Squared has stepped up to the challenge, and will be taking his shot at Pure Adrenaline. This reporter can't help but wonder exactly what's going on in the owner's head, however.

First, outstanding female performer Kit Hatayoma has announced her retirement, hanging up her boots and focusing on the backstage work. Newsbites PWHits Magazine does it's triple-feature once again, detailing three companies thought to be rising in the world. This time around, they focused in Japan, where both SAISHO and Hinote Dojo have begun to be considered as Regional promotions. However, it wasn't all in the east, as Mexico's OLLIE has risen to Cult status. In S2W news, we have parted ways with Remmington Remus. He'll face some stiff competition, however, in fellow newcomer Hugh de Aske, a rookie who looks to go far in the business. Another newcomer hoping to make a HUGE splash in his debut matchup is Geoff "Air" Borne. This rookie high flyer gets the shot of a lifetime in his first ever S2W match, as he takes on S2W Champion Al Coleman with the title belt on the line!

Brutal matches all night long. Good evening everyone, I'll be your announcer this evening. I'm Rob Miskovsky, the new voice for S2W. Beside me this evening is our owner, Saul Stewart. Saul Stewart: Finally, an announcer with some taste. RM: I try to call the action, sir, the way I see it. SS: Well, you just keep that in mind. RM: Yes, sir. Last month saw a new champion crowned within S2W, as Al Coleman started his second reign as S2W Champion. A video plays, highlighting much of Coleman's S2W career, his numerous matches, and showing the near two-year gap between championship reigns. It ends with Coleman holding the belt high in the ring after last month's match, celebrating his victory. (E+) Al Coleman: Yes, it's true! Al's back, baby! After two long years, four lackluster champions, and getting the runaround for months, I am back! I am your S2W Champion! Now, tonight, I put this belt on the line against Geoff Borne. Who is Borne, you might ask? Well, that's a good question, because I damned sure don't know. But that doesn't matter. After two years in the hunt, I've finally got my belt back, and it's not going anywhere. So Geoff, Air, whatever your name is, bring your A game, because you're going to need it to even keep up with me. (E-) Match 1 Hugh de Aske -vs- #4 Mat Fatone Thanks to his impressive showing against Elijah Harris last month, Fatone comes in this month rated fourth. Hugh, on the other hand, comes in looking to get rated at all. These two men put on a great match, and Hugh shows why he may be one of the most promising rookies in the world right now. Still, he is a rookie, and Fatone gets the job done. Mat Fatone in 8:49 by Pinfall (D) Match 2 for the S2W Championship Geoff Borne -vs- #1 Al Coleman (Champion) Coleman spends a little bit of time at the beginning of the match with a heightened ego, but a sudden near fall by the rookie knocked some sense into him, and he was focused for the rest of the match. Borne made a good show, but Coleman would not be denied this night, and locked on a camel clutch for the win. Al Coleman in 10:53 by Submission (D-) STILL S2W Champion, Al Coleman (1) Rob Miskovsky: The champion looked absolutely driven out there tonight. Saul Stewart: Well, that's what you've gotta do if you want to retain your belt. But I'm sure in the back of his mind, he's got Titan's call from last month left over. RM: And the big man can be quite a distraction if he wants to be. SS: How...true. RM: However, we have run out of time for the night, so this conversation will have to wait until Demolition. Until then, this is Rob Miskovsky, signing off.
Quick Results Mat Fatone over Hugh de Aske (D) Al Coleman over Geoff Borne (D-) to retain the S2W Championship
Booker's Notes No record this month, but we're still over the two century mark as 203 people paid to get in tonight. So far, I'm pleased with our new hires, including the announcer. It was kind of jarring not to get a note about bad announcing for a match. For starters, overseas sensation Nigel Svennson is in action once again, taking on the man who took the champ to the limit, Geoff Borne! We will also see Crockett Tubbs taking on newcomer to S2W, Kate Lilly! And finally, Mat Fatone has come in to S2W strong, but can he keep that momentum going when he faces the big man himself, Titan? Find out at the Weston Gymansium when Demolition comes at you!

I am Rob Miskovsky, the voice of S2W, sitting where with our owner and my color commentator Saul Stewart. Saul Stewart: And we've got a hell of a show for you tonight. RM: Three action packed matches. With that said, let's get right to it, as Demolition goes live! Match 1 #12 Nigel Svensson -vs- #5 Geoff Borne Borne takes to the air, while Svennson tries to keep him grounded. That was the story of the matchup, but these two tried to kick it up another notch. They obviously got along well in the ring, and there were a few spots that definitely had the crowd on their feet. One final high risk move gets Borne the victory. Geoff Borne in 7:54 by Borne Again pinfall (D) Match 2 #11 Crockett Tubbs -vs- Kate Lilly Tubbs hasn't really been seen ever since the dissolution of the tag ranks. Lilly looks to conduct herself in as good a manner as Amber Allen before her. It was a solid, if somewhat dull match, that saw Tubbs with a little high flying before getting the pinfall. Crockett Tubbs in 6:22 by Pinfall (E) Mat Fatone: Hello everybody! It's good to be at the Weston, with all you fans. I'm Mat Fatone, as you probably know by now, and as of this moment, I am undefeated in S2W! Now, tonight I face a huge test in Titan. Well, I'm here to tell you that it's a daunting task. No understatement there. But I intend to come out victorious. And when I do, you're all invited to the party. (E-) Match 3 #4 Mat Fatone -vs- #2 Titan Titan comes out with his music, and immediately starts the action. Lackluster brawling would prove to be the theme of the match, however, and even the Titanic Choke Slam that ended the action seemed to have no heart. Titan celebrates his victory by making the universal symbol for "I want the championship." Titan in 6:48 by Titanic Choke Slam pinfall (E) Rob Miskovsky: Titan makes his desires known again. Saul Stewart: You gotta do what you gotta do. RM: Next month is time for the big tournament. Eight men, one champion? SS: The Anniversary Tournament! I can't believe it's time for that already. RM: Well, soon anyway. But we're out of time for the night, I hope you all enjoyed the show. Until next time, this is Rob Miskovsky, signing off.
Quick Results Geoff Borne over Nigel Svennson (D) Crockett Tubbs over Kate Lilly (E) Titan over Mat Fatone (E)
Booker's Notes Nothing about this show made me happy.
