S2W: A Midlife Crisis

2009 Year in Review Three years in, and we're going strong! S2W would like to thank our fans and sponsors for sticking with us as we cut back on our shows, and we promise that we'll come out of this funk soon. But it's once again time for the annual awards. This year, we're doing things a little differently--that is, we're giving out our own awards before we recognize the greats across the globe. And really, everything in S2W this year came down to one man, who has sadly left us already. Casey Valentine was without a doubt the wrestler of the year. S2W Champion for most of the year, putting on two of the greatest matches in S2W history, and main eventing the card of the year, he was without a doubt the driving force behind the push in popularity this year. And honestly, there wasn't even a decent runner up. The two matches that come out and scream AWESOME! at us both involved Casey and the S2W Championship; the first is the match in which he won the belt, when he beat Matthew Gauge in the latter's last match with us at Fame and Fortune, in an awesome matchup. The second amazing match of the year came in September, when K-Squared cashed in his shot from the retirement of the Tag Team Championship, and he and Casey put on a match that people were still talking about a month later. And finally, the card of the year had to have been Fame and Fortune, as S2W broke into the Cs for a card rating with a C-; only two matches on the card, but they were both huge. Joey Beauchamp finally got his first victory, taking nearly fifteen minutes to do so in a match with Thomas Morgan that pulled off a D+ rating; and a near-thirty minute endurance match between Matthew Gauge and Casey Valentine for the S2W Championship that saw the latter winning his first championship ever, pulling in a C rating. So for that, we honor Casey Valentine, and offer him his job back whenever he wants it. Globally, we saw some newcomers and some familiar faces. Bryan Vessey was the wrestler of the year, matching up with Davis Wayne Newton (Young Wrestler), Hooded Kudo (Veteran Wrestler), and Sensational Ogiwara, who wins her second Female Wrestler of the year award. Supreme Wrestling Federation sits pretty as the Promotion of the year, for the third year running. World Level Wrestling showed dramatic improvement this year, and was listed as the most improved. PGHW held the card of the year, their Night of WRESTLING card. And finally, the match of the year was given away on free tv, as TCW Grapple TV saw Remo Richardson defeat Tommy Cornell in one hell of a match. That's all from us for now. Stay tuned as 2010 rolls on in!

For our third anniversary, eight men have been chosen to step into the ring, hoping to get the called shot that comes with a victory. Who will come out on top this year? It will be one of these eight competitors! Tempest Appleby, former tournament winner and S2W champion, has been on a bit of a downturn lately, but has still managed, somehow, to snag the first seed in the tournament. Geoff "Air" Borne, a relative newcomer to S2W, has put on a few good shows, and manages to sit comfortably in the second seed. Harry Wilson looks to finally reverse his woes when it comes to S2W championships with a victory in this years tournament, and he enters the competition seeded third. K-Squared, one half of our former tag team champions, got a shot at the belt already, and performed admirably. That translated into a fourth seed for him this year. Kashmir Singh remains solid in S2W, entering with the fifth seed. Alan Parent gets a shot at the belt, entering as the sixth seed. Newcomer and relative unknown Kate Lilly looks to show that women can hang with the men, entering as the seventh seed. And finally, Cal Sanders steps in to the tournament as the eighth seed. Saul Stewart: Eight men enter, only one comes out on top. RM: Well, seven men and one woman this year. SS: Right, right. But with a capacity crowd here tonight, they want to see some action. Our first matchup isn't part of the tournament, but they wanted to come out here now anyway. RM: Let's get right to it. Match 1 #15 Jack Sanders -vs- #16 Surfeador Californiano Our two lowest seeds kick things off tonight, mainly to give Rob and Saul the chance to get some practice in at the beginning of the night. Crowd wasn't really into it. Jack Sanders in 5:40 by Amateur Lock Submission (E) Match 2 Round 1 Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #9 K-Squared -vs- #6 Kashmir Singh A good start to the tournament, these two put on a fun, high flying match. Squared continues his recent roll, locking on a triangle choke for the victory. K-Squared in 5:31 by Submission (D) Match 3 Round 1 Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #10 Tempest Appleby -vs- #14 Cal Sanders Appleby showed why he was a former champion, though Cal tried to keep him down. Though frustrated enough to attempt to cheat at one point, Tempest would come out victorious in the end with a clean pinfall. Tempest Appleby in 7:19 by Pinfall (D-) Match 4 Round 1 Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #8 Alan Parent -vs- #3 Harry Wilson Both men were striving to prove themselves tonight; Wilson really wanted to finally get a title, while Parent wanted to show that he deserved his shot in this tournament. A hard fought match that, unfortunately, the crowd found somewhat boring. Harry Wilson in 10:07 by Pinfall (E) Match 5 Round 1 Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #5 Geoff Borne -vs- #13 Kate Lilly Not a good match. Lilly tried to hang with Borne, but he was able to outwrestle her at every turn. Geoff Borne in 8:23 by Borne Again Pinfall (E+) Match 6 Semi-Final Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #9 K-Squared -vs- #10 Tempest Appleby Degenerate stablemates showed a touch of respect to each other at the beginning of the matchup, locking hands for a test of strength. In the end though, you're probably taking longer reading this writeup than the match took to finish, as Squared quickly "won" the test, dropping Appleby on the mat, where he quickly tapped out. K-Squared in 0:34 by Submission (E) As K-Squared celebrates, Appleby looks on with a mixture of disgust and anger. (F) Geoff Borne: Would you look at that? I'm in the semi-finals. And Harry Wilson is my opponent. Wilson, I've gotta hand it to you, you keep coming out here year after year, hoping for a different result. Well, Harry, I'm afraid it's not going to happen this year. This year, you get beat by me. (F+) Match 7 Semi-Final Matchup for the Anniversary Tournament #5 Geoff Borne -vs- #3 Harry Wilson Wilson rushes the ring to get this match started, but Borne is waiting for him. Quickly taking control of the matchup, Borne starts to play with Wilson for a bit, but that proves to be his undoing. Harry Wilson in 11:13 by Pinfall (D-) K-Squared: Well, since the tag titles have retired, I've gotta look out for myself. Yeah, I had one shot, and I got a taste for it. I'm going to earn myself another shot, and I'm going to go through Harry Wilson to do it. Harry, I hope you saved yourself, because I'm good to go. (E-) Match 8 For the S2W Anniversary Tournamnent Championship #9 K-Squared -vs- #3 Harry Wilson It was quickly obvious that Squared was the much fresher man, as Wilson had just gone through a hefty match, while Squared really hadn't fought since the first match of the tournament. Still, Wilson put up a good fight, kicking out of one pinning predicament after another. He even got a rally at one point, taking Squared down hard, but K rolled out of the ring long enough to throw off any momentum Wilson had picked up. A figure four would prove to be the ending move. K-Squared in 12:33 by Submission (D-) K-Squared WINS the 2010 S2W Anniversary Tournament Being handed his trophy, Squared celebrates in the ring, kissing the trophy and dancing around with it. (E-) Rob Miskovsky: Well, I'm not sure I like the way he won it, but... Saul Stewart: But we have a new Anniversary Tournament winner, and K-Squared gets a called shot at the S2W Championship any time he wants in the next year. RM: But we are out of time now, possibly even a little bit over. Hopefully we'll see you all next month. Until then, this is Rob Miskovsky, signing off. Yes, we had a full 300 people attending this show, for the first time ever. I was happy with the way the tournament turned out, as well. I think Squared's victory will lead to good things down the road. Ironically, in the second round "matchup" between Squared and Appleby, Tempest managed to strain his bicep. I guess it's possible that it happened in the first round, but he didn't say anything until after that second match. How do you strain your bicep doing a single move? Can Hugh de Aske overcome the incredible size of Titan? Or will the big man prevail? Also, Al Coleman says he was inspired by one of the losing performances in the tournament, and would like to give a title shot to the man who inspired him, so this month, the S2W Championship is on the line as Al Coleman defends against Kashmir Singh!

This is Barnstorm, and I should have been paying more attention when I made these matches. Coleman's defense is going to be a joke. But there's another match coming up first that promises to have some devastating hits. But I want me a taste of that title; you've gotta give it to me, or I'll hound ye to the end of yer days. (E+) Al Coleman: Hugh, that's interesting, and I'll think about it. But right now, I'm out here to talk about Kashmir Singh. See, I liked what I saw last month, and that's why I'm giving you a shot. Kashmir, I expect you to make the best of it--now, I don't expect you to win, that would be asking a lot, but come out here, put up a hell of a fight, and let's make this one for the ages. You'll also be defending against...Titan! Those two did well earlier today, so I'll give them both a shot. Oh, and let's just put...oh, I don't know...how about Mat Fatone gets a shot, too! It's time for the video I put together highlighting one of my best booking decisions ever! A screen drops, and a video plays on it. See, at Blood Sport, Mat beat Hugh. At Demolition, Titan beat Mat, and last month, we saw Hugh take on Titan and get the victory. They're all solid competitors, and this four way is an awesome idea. But, the fact is, I am going to retain this belt through thick and thin, big man and small, one man, two men, three men, or ten. I am the champion, and that's the way it's going to stay. As an aside before I get to the match, I noticed that I've passed 1000 views. Far cry from some of the greats, but it pleases me. Thank you to all of my readers, few of you as they are, for sticking with me through this. At this point, I'm way behind in my game--I've simmed through the beginning of 2015 (actually reached the end of the monthly new workers apparently) and I've got shows written through the middle of 2012. I'm trying to get two shows a day up until I've caught up with my game. Hopefully you all enjoy. S2W & The Weston Gymnasium PRESENT Glory and Honor Saturday, Week 1, April 2010 Rob Miskovsky: Welcome once again to an exciting S2W production, this month bringing you Glory and Honor. It's always good to be in a wrestling ring, and tonight is no exception. In fact, the only thing about tonight that I take exception to is the challenger I have tonight. I mean, seriously. Tempest Appleby? He was the worst champion S2W has ever had. Cheating his way into the belt, defending against nobodies? I have nothing good to say about this matchup, except this. Squared and Wilson were evenly matched, with Squared starting to get some good momentum going. Crockett Tubbs and Tempest Appleby were at ringside with him, cheering him on, which was able to distract Wilson on occasion. Tonight, we're Fanning the Flames from a SOLD OUT Weston Gymnasium! Saul Stewart: That's right. Tonight we see the fallout from last months attack, I assume, since I hear that K-Squared has asked for some mic time. RM: That doesn't happen yet, though. We have a match to get to...but our competitors don't seem to be ready. What's taking so long? Backstage, a locker room door opens up, and Kate Lilly steps out, only to pause, and pull a note off the door. The announcers talk about the lateness of the competitors. And Kate manages her first win, a Lilly Launch Pad pinfall, after Parent failed to get a pin because the referee was tying his shoe. Sadly, those were the high notes. Uh...I've got something I've gotta do. See you around. (E) K-Squared: Hello Everyone. Now, I didn't really want to do it this way, but you all saw what happened last month. A brutal attack during my match with Harry. I've tried to talk to the guys, but they never seem to be home when I call. My only supposition of what happened is that Tempest and Crockett are upset that I managed to walk out of Raising the Roof with the called shot, and they didn't. Whatever the reason, though, I only have one thing to say. Guys, you'll get yours. When you least expect it. Tubbs, you and I were partners, and that was something. When you attacked me, though, you changed that. Now...now you will be on the receiving end. (E) Match 2 for the S2W Championship #1 Al Coleman (Champion) -vs- #5 Hugh de Aske A decent match that did what it was supposed to do, and that was have some fun. Saul Stewart: I don't know who that was, but I love what he did. Somebody find him so I can get him a contract. RM: An unexpected brutal attack on the champion, who remains down and out. Good things. Unfortunately, the crowd was a bit unhappy with the time spent on the angles today--the notes may have been too much. And the newcomer's attack didn't come off as well as I'd hoped, but it's only a start. His image will be forthcoming, but I didn't really feel like spoiling the surprise this early. Svensson is looking to get noticed, and taking down the free-falling Parent may give him that break. Who comes out on top? Also, Al Coleman defends his title belt in singles action once again, this month taking on Mat Fatone. He has to be thinking about the attack from last month, however, and whether or not Saul Stewart has managed to track down that man and offer him a contract. Will the distraction be enough for Fatone to capitalize and claim the championship?

Towards the end of the match, Nigel started to get some solid momentum going, and the crowd was behind him...only to have Parent nail a DDT that left both men down and out on the mat. Newsbites What goes up must come down, and SWF epitomizes that, falling to Cult. In other, sadder news, massive injury has forced the retirement of MMA and Professional Wrestling great Buddy Garner. Hopefully he will remain active behind the scenes, but is said to be interested in just taking some time off for now. S2W Preview By order of Saul Stewart, the man who's been behind the random attacks the last couple of months has been added to the rankings. The committee behind the rankings doesn't know his name, and feels that he should work in the ring to move up, however, so he doesn't get as high as he might otherwise. First, K-Squared is still after his former stablemates for the unprovoked (in his opinion) attack and expulsion a few months ago. At From the Ashes, he gets his first chance to actually do something about it as he gets Crockett Tubbs in singles action! Hugh de Aske is apparently bitter about the rankings, and he has asked for a match specifically to move himself up in the chart, so this month will be facing off against Harry Wilson in a Rankings Challenge! No special rules for this one, just two men trying to show that they are better than the other. Al Coleman has survived every challenge thrown at him as champion this far, and finally gets a month off. In the meantime, however, it's time for a new #1 Contender to be named, and it will be done in a singles match this month, as Kashmir Singh hopes to claim a shot when he takes on Titan! The big man has had a few tries at the belt and come up short each time, but is sure to be raring for another opportunity. Can Singh outlast him to claim the title shot for himself?

These two went back and forth for a few minutes, with Squared obviously in charge, the result only a matter of time. Tubbs was kicking out of pinning predicaments, but was getting slower each time he was down, and in fact, only saved one by putting his foot on the ropes. When he was back to his feet, he grabbed the referee to keep from falling over, distracting him...long enough for Titan to show up, nail a Titanic Choke Slam, and get out. Suddenly, Tubbs has his footing back, and shortly thereafter had the pinfall. It was obvious that Titan was the favorite here, but Singh did his best to keep the momentum in his favor. This was helped by the fact that Titan seemed a bit distracted in the ring, but the end result didn't swing that way. Titanic Choke Slam, 3 count, and it's all over. Hugh de Aske is in singles action again as he takes on Kate Lilly. Regardless of the outcome, we think that this match will be enjoyable. But then, the main event, where #1 Contender Titan gets an S2W Championship matchup against the champion Al Coleman. Coleman has faced every challenge and come out on top, but he has yet to take on Titan in singles competition for the championship. Will Saul finally get his wish and see Al drop the belt, or will the champion retain? You'll find out when S2W comes to The Ministry!

A huge matchup for all four men, as they all have something to prove in this match. Also on the card, Geoff Borne takes on Nigel Svennson in a technical vs flying matchup.

(E-) Match 1 #6 Geoff Borne -vs- Edward Cornell The challenge is answered by a man who looks strangely familiar for a bit, before he whispers his name to the ring announcer. Still, the crowd seems to enjoy the name recognition, and Geoff looks a little worried. It was a good matchup, with Cornell showing much the same technical style as his cousin, and keeping Borne on the ropes. Geoff would pull a win out of nowhere, however, when he nails the Borne Again. Geoff Borne in 10:56 by Borne Again Pinfall (D-) K-Squared: The Degenerates want to team up together all the time, well, guys, I've got news for you. I've got a partner. I've got the best partner one could ever want. Al Coleman: I've had my own troubles with the Degenerates. Appleby's a wannabe, and Titan's just a brute with no skill. Tubbs...well, I've never really heard of him doing anything. Tonight...tonight's going to be a walkover. K: That's right. So why don't you guys get out here so we can get this over with! Match 2 K-Squared & Al Coleman -vs- The Degenerates Tubbs chooses to start for his team, and after a moment's discussion, it's decided that Squared will start for his. Tubbs quickly tags in Titan, even before any action happens. Titan and Squared lock up, with the big man getting a quick advantage, tossing Squared around the ring. Squared manages to get the tag, and Coleman comes in and cleans house, taking town Titan and Tubbs. Standing tall, he manages to nail Tubbs with a huge suplex (after Titan made the tag) before tagging Squared back in. Squared and Tubbs finally face off, and Squared makes good use of his time, fairly quickly sending Tubbs to tag in his partner again. Titan goes for a Titanic Choke Slam, but Squared is able to wriggle away from it, and launches himself at the corner to tag in Coleman...only to discover his partner isn't there. With maniacal laughter, Titan catches him and nails the Titanic Choke Slam. Titan in 6:37 by Titanic Choke Slam Pinfall over K-Squared (E+) Rob Miskovsky: Treachery! Coleman left K-Squared in the lurch! Saul Stewart: *laughter* RM: And apparently our owner enjoys that fact. SS: Finally, finally I've gotten to him. He's snapped! RM: Well, we're out of time. I'm Rob Miskovsky, signing off!
Quick Results Geoff Borne over Edward Cornell (D-) The Degenerates over K-Squared and Al Coleman (E+)
Booker's Notes *shudder* That sound you heard was the main event crashing and burning. Titan and Tubbs just can't go...Tubbs especially. For the short amount of time he was in the ring, he was absolutely exhausted by the end of the match, and it, unfortunately, showed. And as much as the crowd liked seeing Edward Cornell when he showed, by the end of the matchup, they thought he'd been there too long. Ah well, can't please them all the time. Still... At least our attendance went up, reaching 883 paid spectators this time. Final Rating: E+ Cheater's Notes Popularity in Tri-State to 25.7%. (+0%) Prestige to 16.2% (+0.1%)

Will the rookie, KC Glenn, be able to keep up with the pirate, or will he be keelhauled? Also, Al Coleman defends his belt again, this time against perennial challenger Harry Wilson. Wilson seeks an end to his title drought, while Coleman seeks to ignore the taunts about what he did to K-Squared last month.

I'm Rob Miskovsky, the voice of S2W, welcoming you to The Ministry. Saul Stewart: Can I just say that I love what happened last month? I say that because K-Squared is walking out with a microphone right now. RM: The travesty that happened? Of course you loved it. K-Squared: I thought that sort of thing was what was supposed to happen two months ago, not last month. Al Coleman, I'll get around to you. But really, I should have seen it coming, and only have myself to blame. But there's someone I want more. Tempest Appleby, the, forgive me, brains behind the Degenerates. I think it's pretty obvious that I'm not going to get rid of you the easy way. So let's do this the hard way. I want you out, and you want...well, I'm pretty sure you want my title shot. So if you want it, come out here and get it. You and me, one on one--and if I lose, you get my called shot. (E+) Match 1 For a Called Shot at the S2W Championship #7 K-Squared -vs- #10 Tempest Appleby Appleby wasted no time in charging to the ring, suprisingly without his stablemates to back him up. Squared smirked, and set himself for the match, as the two of them closed and started fighting even before a referee made it to the ring. A good matchup between two of our junior stars that came close to ending numerous times. Appleby showed the drive and determination to win, but in the end, it just wasn't enough. K-Squared in 7:44 by Pinfall (D) Match 2 #4 Hugh de Aske -vs- KC Glenn Miskovsky was absolutely astounded at this match, and with good reason. Hugh came out quickly, ready to get a fast victory. Glenn was looking for a good showing. They both went out there and put on one hell of a show. The crowd was getting into it, and it was actually somewhat disappointing when the match finally ended...with a borderline upset. With his long history, he has to be considered an underdog for this fight, but he comes out with fire in his eyes. It's a good matchup that showcases their long history together, shades of many previous matches. Numerous near falls, and then Wilson starts to get the upper hand. Coleman rolls out of the ring to try to slow down the pace, and Wilson follows, only to get a chair shot to the head. (Un)fortunately for Coleman, the referee saw it, and called for the bell. Harry Wilson in 5:35 by Disqualification (D-) Still S2W Champion, Al Coleman Rob Miskovsky: Absolutely despicable. What a terrible show of sportsmanship. Saul Stewart: Ladies and gentlemen, he's back! RM: We're out of time. This is a thoroughly disgusted Rob Miskovsky, signing off. Newsbites Lots of news this month. First off, promotion gains. This month sees two promotions considered to have risen in size as RIPW is now considered a Regional promotion, and WLW is now a National promotion. The fallout from that latter rise could be fairly large. In addition, this month sees the news that Haruki (Hooded) Kudo has hung up his boots. He will obviously be spending time backstage, as he's been doing that already. S2W Preview KC Glenn's impressive debut has him start out high up the charts. Otherwise, things are fairly status quo. First, Edward Cornell gets a chance for a win when he faces S2W's current losing-streak champion, Alan Parent. Then, KC Glenn faces off against Geoff "Air" Borne, in a battle of speed. And finally, Al Coleman matches up against Kashmir Singh, but the champ has said that Singh doesn't deserve a shot at the belt, so the match will be non-title. Undoubtedly, Singh will want to prove him wrong and try to claim a shot at the belt.

Tune up the Sunshine Band! KC Glenn in 8:33 by Tune up the Sunshine Band Pinfall (D+) K-Squared: The time has come. See, way back in January, I won this little tournament that S2W was holding that gave me a called shot. But, I had to use it within the year. I've had my own stuff going on, so I've just been holding on to it. Last month, though, I took care of that, so it's time to cash it in. Next month, at Demolition, it will be Al Coleman defending his S2W Championship against yours truly. Al, I told you I'd come for you. The match got underway, and Singh went right after the champion, looking to score a quick pinfall. Coleman was up to the challenge, however, and fought out of it before wagging a finger at Singh. After that, it got more heated, head to head. Coleman would show just why he didn't care about this being a title match, however, when he got the victory. Al Coleman in 6:56 by Pinfall (D+) Rob Miskovsky: Well, that's all we have for tonight folks. See you next month for a real championship matchup. For now, I'm Rob Miskovsky, signing off. Never a group to turn down such demands, Demolition will see Hugh de Aske taking on Geoff Borne in singles action. K-Squared won the Anniversary Tournament last year, and he's waited until the last moment to cash in his shot. This month, he gets his title match, as Al Coleman looks to hold on to the championship for the entire calendar year.
