<p>This is such a great read. </p><p> </p><p>

You capture the times perfectly; the PWI recaps... the 'voices' of Solie and Watts... Heck, even a Matt Brock nod!</p><p> </p><p>

Well done.</p><p> </p><p>

If it were possible, I'd vote this another 5 stars for the sheer nostalgia blasts.</p><p> </p><p>

Thanks DBG, now I know I the diary is reading as I had intended. :)

It's as much a joy for me to post it up,as it has led me to watching alot of old MSW/GCW/CWF footage "for research purposes" to get the little quirks down,as well as dragging out the old PWI collection to refresh myself on the writing style.

I figured the Kamata/Bernard v. Rogers/Olympia match (a match between two heel teams) would be a good time to break out everyone's favorite PWI columnist....i feel in this era, they put an effort on making things at least APPEAR logical so I am doing the same, it is actually kind of fun trying to "Do a Solie" and present the sometimes crazy WS2 booking/matches in a logical manner.....also I am trying to showcase the possibilities of the match engine itself,if you look a little deeper than a straight "Wrestler A hits so and so move on Wrestler B" format.

Saturday,Week 2,February 1983:

The Superstation WTBS in conjunction with the National Wrestling Alliance brings you Championship Wrestling from Georgia, and boy what a lineup we have for you!Later on, Mr.Wrestling will meet the mad dog himself,Buzz Sawyer and Thunderbolt Patterson will team with Bullet Bob Armstrong to take on the powerful masked duo of The Assassin and The Spoiler....Now I know many of you may be asking why Thunderbolt isn't teaming with his regular partner Ole Anderson tonight....that's because Ole with be in action with his brother,Gene Anderson.....while we're on the topic of the Anderson Family,Arn Anderson will team with Ron Garvin as they try to tackle The Road Warriors, part of that Legion of Doom stable that has causing alot of problems for both these men lately, let's go to the ring.....

Arn Anderson & Ron Garvin vs. The Road Warriors:

Arn and I believe that is Animal here to start it off.....nice wrestling by Arn, controlling the big man with some amatuer holds....you know, Arn once aspired to membership in The Legion of Doom but was rejected and has since held a grudge against Paul Ellering's group, and Garvin has had more than his share of troubles with another member, one Jake"The Snake" Roberts....Anderson and Garvin met and decided "the enemy of my enemy is my friend",which has led to this teaming.....Anderson really holding the advantage here with some nice holds.....he seems to be having problems keeping Animal on the mat though, that incredible strength is letting him power right back up to a vertical base.Full Bodyslam by Anderson....well,that kept him down, big flying Axe Handle from the youngest member of the Anderson family.Anderson has really got Animal tied up,he just can't cope with that amtuer style....knee to the abdominal wall....and Anderson follows up with a nice rear suplay.Animal is right back up and they lock up...Animal has advantage now, showing his background with a series of nice holds...and wisely tags in Hawk to get himself a breather.Hawk is all business,he's just pounding Anderson with punch after punch and nothing Anderson can do seems to hurt him.....Anderson reverses...suplay....no effect....again a suplay....no effect.....amatuer style suplay by Anderson, finally keepig Hawk down....Wow,most competitors have the fight taken out of htem by just one of those amatuer throws, but the big man took three before he felt any effect!

Garvin in...and he's really using those famous fists, even Hawk is feeling those!Hawk going for an arm wringer....Garvin rolls through and reverses....reversal by Hawk...again by Garvin....these two really showing just how good they are, neither man can get an advantge....and Garvin managed to go behind Hawk and catch him off balance, delivering that backbreaker!Garvin isn't letting up,punching Hawk over and over again on the ground...now he has him back up and still pounding the man, garvin is really making a point here!Hawk is still on his feet though....BIG right....another....another...finally Hawk is down....and Ellering tried to get on the apron to interfere, but Garvin caufght him with a show to the jaw as well!Ellering did his job though, Hawk was able to crawl to the corner and get the fresh man in.....Animal hammering away....Garvin blocks a punch....blocks another...fires back...now he has Animal stunned and is catching him with lefts and rights just like he did with Hawk! Tag to Anderson...butterfly suplay and a vertical press...but only 1....Anderson goes to work with the forearms....Head Scissors,REALLY applying pressure....Anderson up and measuring....BIG knee to the head of Animal.....Animal fights back to his feet, catching Anderson with a few shots....Anderson ducks under....oh,he got Animal on his shoulder and drove him down with a Spinebuster....vertical press....again 1 only!Ellering is on the apron again....having words with Anderson...Animal with a sneak attack...but wait,Anderson ducked...but Animal was able to stop himself before hitting his own manager.Animal and Ellering speaking to the fans here....and Anderson drives a running knee in Animal,he collides with Ellering!Vertical press.....only 1 again.....AGAIN Ellering is up....Anderson grabs him, but a brilliant ploy by the Road Warriors...Animal was able to m ake the tag and Hawk catches Anderson from behind! Hawk hitting Anderson with those closed fists....Andersons slips a punch...Atomic Drop....Hawk is staggered.....Piledriver!1....2....Animal in for the save!Oh,Hawk caught Anderson coming in....Hawk working him over with those Axe Handle blows...series of clotheslines by Hawk....Anderson ducks a clothesline...setting up a suplay......Gourdbuster!Vertical press....1.......2......Animal breaks the count,I think Anderson might have had it won right there!Anderson tags out to Garvin...and look at this....AGAIN Paul Ellering interfering, and the Road Warriors makes the switch while the official is busy...Garvin picks up what he thinks is Hawk....Animal with a suprise shot....and these two are going at it hammer and tongs, trading blows...Garvin with a flurry...and another....and there's that hard right we've seen him use,Garvin is known as "The Hands of Stone", he's knocked alot of people out with that punch!Vertical Press...1...2...3....he got it!What an upset,The Road Warriors, who have dominated every team they have faced have been upset by Ron Garvin and Arn Anderson*as the crowd applauds*...The crowd loving it here,as the often vocal "Precious" Paul Ellering is for once silent as he leads his charges away....

Is this the end for Double-A?

I wish that you could continue this periodically when you have the time. You are doing a great job with the reporting.

Thanks for the kind words, captainlou; Things are hectic at work what with 3 major inspections within the last 4 weeks....the upside is as much overtime as I want, that's been killing my free time though.....hopefully after today it will settle down and i can get around to some WreSpi 2 again.

The Real Arn Anderson:

I know I haven't touched on this on for a while(though I keep meaning to),in the meanwhile, here's some things you might know(or maybe never knew) about "The Enforcer",straight from Arn's mouth via his excellent shoot interview:

-Arn got started wrestling for GCW against "Bullet" Bob and Brad Armstrong;Bob liked him and invited him to come work for Ron Fuller over in SECW,Arn spent a few weeks there before being sent to Bill Watts MSW.

-Arn worked as a curtain jerker in MSW for 5 months,Matt Borne(aka the original Doink) decided to work for GCW and needed a tag partner. It was JYD who noted Arn's resemblance to the Anderson family and suggested passing him off as such.

-Tim Horner,Matt Borne,Ole Anderson, and Ted DiBiase all mentored Arn in his early days...DiBiase worked with him alot when he was in MSW,when Arn asked how he could thank him,DiBiase said "If you ever get as good as i think you will,do the same thing for another young guy."Arn did....that guy was Bill Goldberg.

-Arn became friends with Ric Flair by being his driver whenever Flair would come to Georgia(this was something the younger guys did to teach them respect in those days,it was considered a big deal). He became friends with Bobby Eaton in a similar fashion, though instead of being his driver,it was a case of them often working the same towns so they'd drive there together.

-Flair actually cried when he found out Arn and Tully were going to the WWF.

-Best Horsemen Unit: Ric Flair,Arn Anderson,Tully Blanchard,Barry Windham.

Match#20:Arn Anderson vs. Gene Anderson:

*Being a monthly non-televised show, there is no play-by-play,we present a match synopsis from Pro Wrestling Illustrated* Arn and Gene locked up to start;Gene tried a few punches and kicks but was unable to hurt Arn,who was able to take everything and return fire,a series of suplexes put Gene down and Arn started working on the arm as much as possible with hammerlocks and arm bars, even driving the knee into the arm a few times.Arn controlled the first ten minutes of the match after putting Gene in a hammerlock and throwing him shoulder first into the ring post while still holding the hammerlock.A nice double underhook suplex left Gene in trouble but he moved out of the way of a falling headbutt and took over, working Arn's arm with arm bars,a knee drive, and a vicious arm breaker type move.Arn made the ropes to escape a choke, then scooped Gene up and bodyslammed him down onto his arm...Gene forced his way back to his feet and tried a bodyslam of his own put Arn turned it into a cross body block for a 1 count.Stomach Breaker by Arn got another 1 count but Gene got Arn in the eyes and momentarily blinded him to take back over. The crowd got behind Arn and the chanting got his back to his feet, where he hit a big series of forearms to bring Gene down and applied the Anderson Step Over Arm Bar,Gene gave up,giving the win to Arn at the 16:50 mark.

This is a great read. I love your play by play by the announcers.

I used to watch the great Baron up here during the WWWF days during the early to mid '70s.

Appreciate the compliment....all those years of watching wrestling on T.V. finally paid off for something, plus I like to re-watch some classic wrestling before I write so I can get "into character" for the announcer as each had a different style;Watts went crazy for the faces and booed the heels while explaining the action in a plain english way to make it seem logical,Solie was calm and tried to stay impartial while explaining WHY things happened with a few technical terms, etc.

The Baron was big around the same era as,I want to say,Pedro Morales...first wrestler I can remember doing the "move the foreign object to different hiding spots to stay one step ahead of the ref" routine.....thanks to Boon,he wrestles on in 1983 in the Pittsburgh/Cleveland area.

Wednesday Week 3, February 1983:

Welcome again, Mid-South Sports presents the best in professional wrestling...I'm Boyd Pierce and with me as always is the President of Mid South Sports.....Cowbay Bill Watts! Bill, tell us what we can look forward to......Well Boyd, you know we always bring you the best and that's just what we're going to do with some talented youngsters as The Steiner Brothers will face the exciting young team of Louisiana State Champion Sam Houston and his partner, White Lightning Tim Horner!Lord Humongous and Skandor Akbar are also here, this guy really scares me,he's going to injure someone very badly someday, but the Board of Directors have noticed his win record lately and asked me to book him a match, not only that Akbar talked the Board into allowing the Ugandan Giant,Kamala to compete tonight.....well Akbar, you manged a match, you got it....tonight Kamala will face Mr.Wrestling II!Speaking of guys who run their mouth,Ernie Ladd is here,he's been talking about how he can beat anyone.....well,he's going to take on JYD just because I'd like to see JYD shut him up!But before all that,it's going to be Mr.Wrestling II's young protoge, Magnum T.A.,and his partner "Nautre Boy" Buddy Landell, against another young up and comer who has also learned a few trick from his masked mentor, Super Olympia, and "Mr.Wonderful" Paul Orndorff.....and it's NEXT!

Match#21: Super Olympia & Paul Orndorff vs. Magnum T.A. & Buddy Landell:

Olympia & Magnum to start....and look at this....they're exchanging some nice holds here...for sure,Boyd, both II and Mr.Olympia are great wrestlers and they've taught these two alot,we're seeing it here.Olympia with a snap mare to take over, and he's going right to that arm! We've Olympia do this alot, setting the man up early for that arm bar finisher of his, that's smart wrestling,Boyd!Magnum using that knowledge he picked up from II to escape....and just look at that Boyd,I guess wrestling has gone out the window, now these two are just fighting....punch and kick, neither guy is giving an inch, what a couple of athletes!Oh,Magnum ducked a little too soon, right into a punch,Olympia takes him up and over with a suplex!Right back to the arm...you know,I don't like this Super Olympia,Boyd, but I'll give him this...he has talent,we're seeing it here with his scientific approach.Drving the knee into the arm,and now dropping a leg on it,that's going to cause some problems,Boyd, that'll make an arm cramp up on you and take the strength out of it,I don't know if he'll be able to lift anyone to apply that Belly to Belly Suplex he's won so many matches with!Olympia scoops him...hammerlock...wow,a bodyslam right onto the hammerlocked arm, that can break an arm!Oh man,now he's got the arm and just stomping away on it,T.A. could be seriously injured here!Olympia drives an elbow into the arm...and now he's just pounding Magnum with punches! The fans are not happy here, they really hate Super Olympia, and I can see why....he has the talent, but then he goes and delivers cheap shots instead of fighting the man clean! Now,Olympia has him straddled, arm bar....he's REALLY wrenching that arm and Magnum is about defenseless in there...Super Olympia isn't letting go,he's just wrenching that arm to death....and there it is....Step Over Arm Bar!T.A. is in no condition to do anything,Jerry Usher calling for the bell....what a dominant performance from Olympia,I've never seen anyone manhandle Magnum T.A. like that since he started learning from Mr.Wrestling II!*Booing and "That match sucked!" chants* Well, the fans not happy with that one,but there's the winner,Super Olympia....what a performance,Landell never made it in and neither did Orndorff.....

Now Olympia,he's just stomping the arm, right into an arm bar...he lets Williams up,nothing doing with that forearm shot....counter punch by Olympia...and he slams Williams down onto the hammerlocked arm!Olympia stays on him, could it be.....Step Over Arm Bar,that's it,Olympia takes the first fall!

Look at Williams though,he charges right in and lays into Olympia with a kick....hammerlock....and a dropkick takes Olympia off his feet!Williams wrenching away with a headlock....he drives the knee into Olympia's leg...sets up again...no,Olympia kicks him off...fireman's carry? No,Olympia with a gut buster!Cover..1.....Williams kicks out!Olympia sets up for a suplex...oh,he left himself open Williams with a forearm...and another...small package on Olympia...1....Olympia kicks out!Solid right hand,Williams hammerlocks the arm and drives Olympia into a corner,he's working Olympia with a flurry of forearms! Now Williams giving Olympia his own treatment with the straddled arm bar....and he drives an elbow into the arm!Olympia just so strong,he powers right out of the arm bar...punch punch, series of punches by Olympia,Williams just cut him off with a kick! Now it's Williams,hammerlock...he's trying to push Olympia into the corner, but Olympia has the feet set,he's not going anywhere....Olympia with a standing switch to a facelock.....into The Gourdbuster!Cover...1....2....3,it's all over!*Chants of "That Match Sucked!"*...Well,Williams looked like he might have been able to come back, but Super Olympia was just too good, the fans are not happy....

I'm really happy to see that you're keeping at this. I was born in October 1982, so it's not a nestalgia kick for me; it's just a well written diary, about a great performer.

At this point, it's looking like your match grades are being dragged down by the fact that Double A is just too freakin' good, and is basically ripping his opponents arms off. The good ol' Chewbacka treatment.

Cheers!

Appreciate the compliments:)

Yes,the last 3 matches,my opponents didn't manage to get me lower than medium, and even then most of the moves I ended up taking were off of counters, which made for old fashioned squash matches for AA, but didn't exactly build drama, which always kills your rating.I tried my best to keep my approach logical by doing the old Anderson "Work the Arm".but a one sided match can only take you so far....

Still,it was a suprise to see Magnum T.A. lay down with hardly a move in edgewise, right around this point in MSW was where he started to see the beginning of the "Goldberg push" he would receive wherever he went until the accident forced his retirement.

Congrats on a terrific match. We finally saw an A* match involving double A. Is the team with Ronnie Garvin a regular team or just put together by the head booker?

Yeah,it started off with Garvin doing 'ok" against Mr.Wrestling but when T-Bolt got in Garvin got his clock cleaned and went to low/danger;I tried AA but he got taken to low/danger quickly,I brought Garvin back in with full expectations of us losing but figuring he had a better chance to hang in there a little bit and he actually did until Mr.Wrestling and T-Bolt both wore down and it became anyone's game.I thought we were done when Mr.Wrestling hit two big moves out of nowhere but thankfully AA got the save and we both tagged. From there it was a race between AA and T-Bolt to see who could land a finisher first,I got a break and AA connected first for the win.Really there weren't any spectacular moves, which is no suprise considering the four guys involved;just goes to show you don't need fancy moves to make a good match, building tension and near falls with fairly simple moves do the job just fine.

Arn and Garvin were a pre-existing tag team when I started the game with C'ish experience,I set them to regular to reflect Arn's concentration on tag team work at this point but for some reason the AI wasn't booking us to compete.

I think I managed one other A* way back in SBW as Super Olympia with Buddy Rogers against another heel team, this is the first one Arn has been in as Arn though.
