Rising Stars

Thursday, week 4, February 2004

The Wavehouse, San Diego, CA.

Potter is in the ring and says he is sick to the back teeth of Jeff Jarrett. He has been getting text messages and emails all week long about how Jarrett is going to kick his teeth in at Wrestle Fest and how Jarrett will run TNA following it. It won't happen. And Potter is going to warm up tonight by facing anybody in the Rising Stars locker room who fancies a challenge. And that is... The Potter Promise. C-

Briscoe Brothers v Wild Boys

Briscoe Brothers defeated Wild Boys in 6:46 when Mark Briscoe defeated B-Boy by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. E+

Frank v NOSAWA

Frank defeated NOSAWA in 8:34 by pinfall. D+

Marc Mero v Shark Boy

Mero is rusty while Shark Boy was off his game. Marc Mero defeated Shark Boy in 10:48 by pinfall. E+

Potter's Open Challenge

Potter v Super Dragon

Explosion

Tuesday, week 1, March 2004

Rothman Center, Hackensack, NJ.

Ken Shamrock starts the show and discusses his Ultimate Submission match for the World Championship against AJ Styles at Wrestle Fest. He states he has tremendous respect for AJ's in ring capabilities, but he questions his ability at submission wrestling. He asks AJ if he can even name as many submission holds as he can use. C-

Sexual Standouts v Spanish Announce Team

An OK match to kick things off with the Maximos pulling off a slight surprise over the more established (in TNA anyway) of Mystery and Stains, although SAT do show that they are superior than their counterparts when it comes to working as a team. They win in 7:05 when Joel Maximo defeated Seaman Stains by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. D

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions) v Briscoe Brothers

This was a match of similar ilk, though this time the experience of teaming together for longer did not prevail as the superiority of the tag team champions showed through. The end came in 8:38 when Robert Roode defeated Jay Briscoe by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 2 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

Spanky had a short interview backstage where he addressed Christopher Daniels and told him he had better be ready for his toughest challenge in TNA to date when the two meet at Wrestle Fest. C-

Marc Mero v Rey Mysterio Jr

Despite Mero still showing some ring rust, the two did put on a perfectly good match. Mero has lost some speed in his advancing years though which played into Rey's hands. He used his quicker movement and aerial ability to halt his recent slide in 10:38 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Sabu

A fairly brief match wasn't helped by the two not clicking, making it an awkward bout. The end came in 5:54 when The Sandman ran down and hit... Bashir with one punch. This gave Bashir the DQ victory, before Sandman started attacking Sabu. Bashir double teamed and Sandman fetched some thumb tacks from under the ring. He hits a White Russian Legsweep on Sabu into the tacks. Frank takes advantage of Sandman attacking Sabu by taking the opportunity to attack Bashir. Bashir rolls out of the ring and retreats though before he can do much damage. D

A music video is shown to promote Psicosis. C

TNA HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Sandman (champion, with Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney) v Doug Williams (with British Bulldog)

Having just disposed off Sabu, Sandman sticks around and waits for his latest challenger, Doug Williams. Another average hardcore match follows, despite Sandman being very popular in the Tri State. The three at ringside have no involvement in this match, which is unusual in Sandman's title defences thus far. Sandman picks up the win in 9:16 by pinfall with a Top Rope Leg Drop. The Sandman makes defence number 5 of his TNA Hardcore title. D

Prior to a commercial break, 'Super' Steve Corino is seen walking to the ringside area for his upcoming match with Ken Shamrock. Fans are surprisingly very excited by somebody walking. Shall I go on a little ramble? B-

Ken Shamrock v 'Super' Steve Corino

And the two have one of the best matches seen on TNA. Maybe this will end up in a TNA Epics best of Explosion episode on Bravo in the UK, hosted by Mick Foley in 2009. The two put on a display of largely submission based wrestling of very good quality. Have to say though... AJ will really have to go some to do as well as Corino did. Shamrock is victorious though, as expected, in 15:36 by submission with an Ankle Lock. B-

The Sandman is shown backstage walking down a corridor. He seems to questioning why there are no serious contenders for his Hardcore Championship, before grabbing a nearby chair and hitting himself in the head. As officials and backstage personnel scatter, he starts having a wild hardcore brawl with himself. It says something when this was better than the Hardcore Championship match itself. Maybe I should change the title match at Wrestle Fest to The Sandman v The Sandman. C+

Psicosis v Sting

Another match of high quality, and this despite Sting still shaking off his ring rustiness. The two contrasting styles worked well against each other, though that was mostly due to Sting's vast experience. Psicosis gave as good as he got and emerged from the match with credit and pride even in defeat, as Sting won in 14:08 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. I sure hope the final match doesn't suck after how good these two were... B-

Jarrett appears with a microphone prior to his match, the final one of the evening. He again states he will rule TNA following Wrestle Fest with force and will reward loyalty. He is not worried about Sting's claims that he is doing things the wrong way. He is not. He is not worried about Potter at Wrestle Fest as he's not fit to lace his boots. He's also going to go one up on Potter by giving a young up and comer a chance at glory tonight, only his opponent is of greater calibre than Super Dragon...

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Rocky Romero

Phew, the match doesn't stink, it's quite good. For much of the match Jarrett teases Romero, goading him on. He does nearly lose when he gets ****y one too many times and Romero rolls him up for a near three. That just gets Jarrett mad and one quick onslaught later and he has won in 16:52 by pinfall with The Stroke. C-

Show rating: C-

Can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity. Would it have been rated even higher had the Shamrock or Sting match gone on last though..?

Congrats on a sellout by the Rising Stars! and congrats on the higher rated Explosion with a pair of B- matches -- need to see more of those 4 at the top/ It looks like you have Sting building up for something with Jarrett...maybe Sting and Shamrock can team up against the JWO and England's Glory in the process (possibly giving the tag team ranks a little boost if they continue to work their magic).

Sting winning the Hustle World title from Akebono and his defenses there should help him shake off the ring rust even faster!! That should be good news -- as long as the trips to Japan don't exhaust him in the process.

Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, March 2004

Campeneli Stadium, Brockton, MA.

Jeff Jarrett walks down with all of his World Order. He tells the crowd in attendance to not to think this is the last time they will be seen together, as there is zero chance that he will lose to Potter on Sunday. Following that, the new era in TNA will begin. C+

Keiji Sakoda v Jorge Estrada

A meeting of two of the 'lesser lights' in TNA, Sakoda looks to pick up some momentum and recognition with a good win in 6:34 by pinfall with a Roaring Elbow. D

Abyss & 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Spanky

The first of four tag team matches tonight to feature opponents at Wrestle Fest. A reasonable match where teamwork expectedly wasn't at it's best with neither team regular tag team partners. Spanky put in a really good performance. Daniels and Abyss especially pick up the momentum going into Wrestle Fest in 9:53 when Abyss defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown by pinfall with The Black Hole. D+

A music video is shown to promote Psicosis. C

Frank & Sabu v The Sandman (with Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten) & Sheik Abdul Bashir

The second Wrestle Fest based tag team match features the X Division & Hardcore champions and challengers and didn't quite match the previous matchup in quality. Balls and Axl were distractions at ringside but didn't physically get involved in this one. They didn't need to as the champions prevail in 10:46 when Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Frank by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. D

Carlito v 'Super' Steve Corino

A good match. Back and forth action throughout in a match where both men had several near falls. Neither men are at Wrestle Fest which just goes to show the depth of the TNA roster currently. Corino comes out on top in 12:35 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C-

Sting appears backstage, questions Jeff Jarrett's motives and says TNA does not need a new era, the current one simply needs to develop. B-

Colt Cabana v Psicosis

Despite the two not clicking this is still a good bout. Like the previous match, the bout was an even affair but Caribbean Cool do not have a good night as in 14:39 Psicosis wins by pinfall with a Guillotine Leg Drop. C

Ken Shamrock comes out prior to his involvement in the next Wrestle Fest tag team match. He knows he and AJ won't have an issue teaming together tonight but Sunday will be different. The championship will be on the line and Shamrock is ready for it. Is AJ? C+

AJ Styles & Ken Shamrock v England's Glory

Rather disappointing in all honesty. AJ and Shamrock did indeed team together with no sign at all of turning on each other. The match ended in 19:20 when the referee lost control and stopped the match with all four in the ring brawling. Beer Money seize an opportunity and run in to attack England's Glory. D

Potter & Rey Mysterio Jr v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett & Samoa Joe

A good match to end the last Explosion before Wrestle Fest. The two teams worked well together, having teamed up a few times before. Potter and Rey look to have the match won, only for Jarrett to hit Rey with a low blow from behind with the referee trying to get Potter out of the ring. This enabled Jarrett's World Order to win in 18:31 when Samoa Joe defeated Rey Mysterio Jr by pinfall with an Island Driver. C+

Show rating: C

Show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 2, March 2004

The Family Arena, St Louis, MO.

Sting comes to the ring, making a rare Rising Stars appearance. He talks about when he was young and was a rising star, there was no show like this for him to develop his talents. He thinks Rising Stars is a great idea, and he is here tonight to play a small role in helping one wrestler develop their talent. C+

Amazing Red v Chris Chetti

Chetti is rusty but Red put in a good performance. Amazing Red defeated Chris Chetti in 6:40 by pinfall with a Code Red. E+

Ariel v Lou Fisto

Lou is rusty. The two showed good chemisty. Lou Fisto defeated Ariel in 3:47 by pinfall with a Diving Star. E

Prophecy v Ric Blade & Billy Reil

Wrestle Fest

Sunday, week 2, March 2004

USF Sun Dome, Tampa, FL.

A music video airs hyping the promotion, including shots of Ken Shamrock, 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, and Sting with the TNA and Wrestle Fest logos displayed at the end. C+

A montage of clips is shown which are of AJ Styles training himself for his upcoming Ultimate Submission match tonight against Ken Shamrock. B

Sexual Standouts v Spanish Announce Team

A rematch from Explosion a couple of episodes ago and a good match to kick off the action at Wrestle Fest. The contest was an even affair with Sexual Standouts clearly showed some improved teamwork, which SAT have in droves having been a team outside of TNA for much longer. SAT go two for zero against Sexual Standouts in 7:42 when Joel Maximo defeated Seaman Stains by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. C-

Abyss v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown

The quality falls in a match where Abyss had most of the offence, although the match wasn't helped by the two not clicking. These two need to head in a different direction, preferably opposite to each other. The crowd's mood was subdued by the end of the match which Abyss won in 10:39 by pinfall with The Black Hole. D-

TNA HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP

Thumbtacks Deathmatch

The Sandman (champion, with Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney) v Sabu

Once again the Hardcore Championship match fails to deliver, and maybe this possible 'new era' of TNA will have a look at the Hardcore Championship. One thing that was expected, the match was a bloody affair, with Axl and Balls also bleeding as they interfered on numerous occasions, not always with their desired effect. Sandman wins in 9:45 by pinfall with a White Russian Leg Sweep onto a tray of tacks. The Sandman makes defence number 6 of his TNA Hardcore title. D

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Frank

Two young talents who are rising through TNA put on a good show which also displays how much better received the X Division is to the Hardcore division. Both men can go home satisfied with a fine evening's work, though Frank is going home disappointed not to have won his first TNA title. He was on the verge of winning when Bashir managed to block a Call Frank and get a win from seemingly nowhere in 11:44 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 4 of his TNA X Division title. C

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Spanky

Staying with the X Division and another really good match. The two share good chemistry which also helped matters. Both men showcased their talents really well and hit all of their signature moves. Towards the end of the match, the crowd were really getting into it as the match swung both ways, ending in 15:39 by pinfall when Daniels hit a Last Rites. C+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions) v England's Glory

I'm wondering if Bulldog's advancing years and clouded past are now taking it's toll on his performances, as yet again his match doesn't quite deliver. England's Glory seem to have lost their way somewhat since losing the tag team titles a month or so ago. Beer Money continue their fine recent run with another good win, retaining in 9:57 when Robert Roode defeated Doug Williams by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 3 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Marc Mero v Sting

Both men are still showing signs of rustyness, which is especially worry in the case of Sting as he has a good few matches since returning to wrestling. Due to this, the match suffered, however the outcome rarely looked in doubt as Sting stayed a step ahead of Mero pretty much throughout. He won in 11:56 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. D

Rey Mysterio Jr v Samoa Joe

Back on the quality trail, a match of good quality between two dependables in the ring, even though Rey was not as good as he is capable of being tonight. Both these men are potentially TNA champions in the future, but on this night Rey's luck has vanished when Joe wins in 17:05 by submission despite Rey's leg being under the bottom rope and on the ring apron. C+

As we wait for the match between AJ Styles and Ken Shamrock to commence, Tenay and Don West run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

30 minute Ultimate Submission match

AJ Styles (champion) v Ken Shamrock

Despite being out of his element in a match specialising in submissions, AJ put in a really good performance. His apparent training clearly paying off. Even so, he was unable to top the former UFC champion. Despite Styles' spirited performance, Shamrock was able to handle everything AJ could give him and managed to lock him in an ankle lock after 22 minutes. After 3 minutes of excrutiating pain, AJ gave in and tapped. That one decision was the difference maker as Shamrock won the match one submission to zero in a very good contest. Ken Shamrock wins the NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-

The match is over, and Ken Shamrock is celebrating. AJ Styles walks over and offers his hand as a sign of respect, and the two competitors shake hands. B-

Potter v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett

If Potter wins, JWO disband. If Jarrett wins, he becomes the authority in TNA. Outside interference leads to immediate firing.

TNA's greatest match to date? Lynn v Shamrock from August 2003 will certainly run it close. Both men gave it their all with everything they have on the line. Potter fighting for the good of TNA, Jarrett fighting for the 'new era'. Potter gets on top of Jarrett after 15 minutes and hits The Clayhead. He has him covered... 1... 2... 3? No. The referee has been pulled out of the ring. The camera pans round and Ernest Miller has dragged him out. Potter is incensed and starts yelling at Miller from the ring. Moments later, in 16:39 Jarrett picks up the pinfall with The Stroke following further interference from Ernest Miller. B

There is then pandemonium in the ring. Potter is both disappointed and angry he has been defeated thanks to Ernest Miller's interference. He realises he is no longer the TNA authority, so shouts at Jarrett to fire Miller. Jarrett gets a mic and says he will do no such thing. He now runs TNA and Miller is going nowhere. Potter gets a mic and tells Jarrett that a contract was signed for this match. If Jarrett won, he gets the position of authority in TNA, but if anybody interfered in the match, they would be fired immediately. Therefore, if Jarrett does not fire Ernest Miller right now, then he has broken the contract and as a result of that, Potter remains as TNA's authority. Jarrett is aghast at this and stays silent for a moment. He's been backed in a corner and he'll need to sacrifice either his newly won position of authority, or one member of his World Order. After some pondering, Jarrett yells at Potter he will never give any authority back to him and so reluctantly fires Ernest Miller! C

Can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

TNA News

TNA has announced that it is starting a drug testing policy. It will start off small to start with, random standard testing three workers following each pay per view event. Any offenders will be targeted in the future with a comprehensive test. As TNA grows in stature in the future, the drug testing policy will grow also.

Following the Wrestle Fest event, 'Cowboy' James Storm and Sabu both produced a clean result. British Bulldog failed the test and has been given his one and only warning to become clean.

awesome PPV dude!! I hope you'll able to build on its success - and the new authority Jeff jarrett doesn't undo the momentum that is building. He may be too worried looking over his shoulder for Sting that he can't rock the boat too much (how many matches does Sting need to get past the ring rust for crying out loud!!!?)

so many good firsts in the show: Fallen Angel has his first good match - those two could possibly work a good program together. Sheik Bashir has a solid title defense. The tag team opener was even quite good (better than the world tag champ's match). TWO B rated matches at the end - how perfect. AJ needed a breakout match like that.

Sandman continues to disappoint as the hardcore champ. Maybe Corino can get in the good graces of the new authority and get his title back (maybe replace Miller in the JWO - and bring some gold to the stable?).

Good call on the drug testing of Bulldog. Hope he gets his act cleaned up.

I already have plans for Jarrett, Sting, Corino and the Hardcore Championship. Rising Stars also. Oddly the only top person I don't really have plans for right now is my own user character!

The X Division matches have really been improving, and the tag team division has been improving a little too, which are both pleasing of course.

Having two B matches to finish was awesome. The standard and success of that show has even improved the South West to become my first C- rated region in importance.

Honestly, the selection of Bulldog (as well as Storm and Sabu) to be drug tested was completely random out of all the wrestlers who competed at Wrestle Fest. If he is caught again (and now he has failed once he will be targeted) he will be gone simple as. The one good thing with being cult in size is I can fire people for nothing as nobody has written contracts.

what order will the tournament be set up?

in other words if/when Jarrett and Sting both with their qualifying match, will they meet in the next round...or the finals? (in which case, would Jeff get AJ/Abyss in the next round?). It could be that you have these set up randomly and we don't get to know who the next round opponents are.

That might make a little difference in how I "pick" my future winners - just a little

For the next Explosion PPV though, I agree lockstep with Boomking!

Jarrett and Sting advance to the next round

Shamrock has an impressive first title defense

and Steve Corino becomes 2-time Hardcore champion. He thought about leaving for "greener pastures" but he stayed loyal to TNA. He paid some dues for his transgression and now it could be time to reward his loyalty to the company.

I hope Boomking doesn't have to start a riot!! does anyone know how many matches it takes to shake off ring rust?
