<p><strong>Explosion</strong></p><p>

Tuesday, week 3, March 2004</p><p>

Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, MD.</p><p> </p><p>

A celebration is held where Ken Shamrock is crowned the new NWA TNA World Heavyweight Champion. It passes by without any interruption. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>C</strong><strong><em>o</em></strong><strong>cky Connection (with SoCal Val) v Revolution</strong></p><p>

An average match to open the latest Explosion, the rating possibly not helped by the fact it was unusual for two heel teams to face each other. C<em>o</em>cky Connection pick up their first victory in some timeC<em>o</em>cky Connection in 8:51 when Johnny Devine defeated Frankie Kazarian by pinfall with a C<em>o</em>cks Connect. Revolution's rise up the tag ranks has suddenly become derailed. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Amazing Red v Jorge Estrada</strong></p><p>

What could have been an entertaining, high flying, X Division match failed to live up to it's promise, thanks largely to Estrada being off his game. Red looked to have the match won, when Estrada, having managed to conceal some brass knuckles nailed Red with them in the referee's blind spot. Estrada picked up the academic victory in 9:14 by pinfall. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Potter comes out to the ring. He admits to the TNA fans that his defeat to Jarrett has got to him. He thoroughly enjoyed his role as the TNA authority and now Jarrett has won it from him, he has lost his smile. He needs to evaluate where he now stands in TNA before making a decision on his future. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sexual Standouts v Spank Wang</strong></p><p>

Two face teams meet in the second tag team match of the night, and this is an improvement on the first. The match ebbed and flowed with no team looking like they were wanting or likely to lose. Sexual Standouts sneaked it in 13:17 when Seaman Stains defeated Jimmy Yang by pinfall with a Tidal Wave. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>TNA HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP</strong></p><p><strong>

The Sandman (champion, with Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney) v 'Super' Steve Corino</strong></p><p>

Before the match can begin, Jeff Jarrett appears on the ramp and tells the referee to not start the match. He says he has seen Potter run TNA poorly during his time in charge, but Jarrett now runs the ship. TNA will see it's new era being ushered in tonight. The Ring Kings tournament starts tonight, with the winner of the final at Ring Kings going on to the main event at Bound For Glory 3 in June and facing whomever is the NWA TNA Champion at the time. He remarks that the tournament will be a waste of time for fifteen men as The Ring King will retain his crown. Jarrett then says that Sheik Abdul Bashir will retain his X Division Championship at Ring Kings against Spanky. Why is he so confident? Bashir is in Jarrett's World Order because he has ability and as important he has loyalty. Next, he has issues with Rising Stars. The show and the wrestlers on it need to improve and improve fast, or else Rising Stars won't be a show for much longer, nor will it's wrestlers be wrestlers. Finally, onto immediate matters. The Hardcore Championship is dead. It has been a waste of air time on TNA's shows as it features talentless fighters who can't wrestle. In it's place will be a new title, the TNA National Championship. It's first champion will be Steve Corino, as he is a man who can wrestle and he will have no problems defeating The Sandman in the first TNA National Championship match. Right now...</p><p>

<strong>TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP</strong></p><p><strong>

The Sandman (with Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney) v 'Super' Steve Corino</strong></p><p>

It seems odd that Sandman is wrestling a regular wrestling match. Without weapons, and specificially his Singapore cane, he doesn't match up to Corino's refined wrestling ability. Due to this, Sandman struggles and Corino has most of the match. This leads to Axl Rotten entering the ring while Balls Mahoney distracts Mark Johnson. Axl swings a chair at Corino and misses as Corino ducks and Axl hits Sandman. Corino throws Axl out of the ring and wins in 12:42 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion following botched interference by Axl Rotten. 'Super' Steve Corino wins the TNA National title. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Sting is in the depths of the stadium. He says he is very unsure about Jarrett's supposed 'new era' in TNA. He worries that Jarrett will do everything for himself and not for TNA. He worries that Jarrett will be selfish and he and his World Order buddies will monopolise TNA. Sting says he won't let that happen. <strong>C+</strong></p><p>

<strong>Ring King Qualifying Round</strong></p><p><strong>

Sting v Super Crazy</strong></p><p>

Boom King is going to start a riot, as Sting is still rusty. If he was a car he'd have been taken to the scrapyard by now. Nonetheless, this was a decent enough match where Sting managed to overcome the battling Crazy in 14:25 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ring King Qualifying Round</strong></p><p><strong>

Mystery v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett</strong></p><p>

Wow, this was a very good match, and a little surprising it was so good. The two showed great chemistry in the bout. While Jarrett was, as expected the stronger throughout the match, Mystery showed great fortitude to hang in there for a good while as he stepped up considerably in class and wrestled his second match of the night. Although, with Jarrett in charge, isn't it convenient he faces a relatively easy opponent in the Qualifying Round... Jarrett advances in 11:46 by pinfall with The Stroke. <strong>B-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

A video is shown to promote AJ Styles, recapping his run as NWA TNA World Champion and showing highlights of his Ultimate Submission match where he lost the title to Ken Shamrock. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP</strong></p><p><strong>

Ken Shamrock (champion) v Abyss (with Chance Prophet)</strong></p><p>

This goes to show... take away the hardcore element and Abyss can be involved in a good match. It does help his opponent is Ken Shamrock, but it takes two to tango as they say. Abyss' size makes him a formidable opponent for anybody but despite using his power and size to good advantage, he's unable to put Shamrock in a position where he really threatens to win the title. Shamrock fights his way through, and makes a relatively comfortable first defence, gaining the victory in 17:07 by submission with an Ankle Lock. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 1 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. <strong>C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating: C+</strong></p><p>

Show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.</p><p>

Attendance: 4778</p><p>

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 3, March 2004

James Miller Gym, Newberg, OR.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring. He tells the fans that two things need to improve. One is Rising Stars. If the show doesn't get better, it will cease to exist. Two are the wrestlers on it. If the wrestlers don't get better, they will cease to wrestle. Anybody having a stinking match tonight, the loser will get fired. It's time to put up or shut up, as there are too many wrestlers not doing enough to earn my money. C

Nigel McGuinness v Joey Ryan

The two showed great chemistry... but the match still stank. Nigel McGuinness defeated Joey Ryan in 6:02 by pinfall with a Guvnor's Crumpet. Jeff Jarrett appears in the entrance way and tells Ryan he wasn't joking earlier... he's fired! It's wrestling meets The Apprentice! E

Jillian Hall v Mickie James

Jillian Hall defeated Mickie James in 7:27 by pinfall with a handful of tights. Jarrett appears and tells Mickie she has two good things going for her and grabs non existant boobs on his chest. She's saved! E

Ace Steel v NOSAWA

NOSAWA defeated Ace Steel in 7:33 by pinfall with a Roundhouse Spiral Kick. Jarrett appears and says that that match doesn't cut it for him. Ace Steel is fired! Jarrett sure isn't messing about in his first Rising Stars in charge. E+

Adam Pearce v Scotty Riggs

Scotty Riggs defeated Adam Pearce in 8:56 by submission with The Clapper. Again Jarrett appears and tells Pearce he is disappointed in him as he thought he had talent... he's fired! E+

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v The Ram

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated The Ram in 13:46 by pinfall with The Stroke. Jarrett grabs the mic, and The Ram looks mortified... until Jarrett tells him he did OK and he's got a reprieve. D+

wow - I wouldn't have thought there was $6,000 worth of talent on the show - much less lose that much. Jeff must command a hefty check for his appearances (after all, he also gets the owner's cut).

Love "The Jeffrey" gimmick. "you're fired!" (does he do the "cobra" thing with his hand too when he fires someone like The Donald does?)

makes a fun way to trim the roster a bit. Let you bring the focus to the guys who really have a future with TNA>

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, March 2004

Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, KS.

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring to start the show. He acknowledges that not many people see Rising Stars each week, but he had a great deal of fun last week on that show. In every poor match, he fired the loser and it made him feel all powerful. He's going to repeat it on the next Rising Stars, but he's also going to do it tonight. He calls out AJ Styles.

AJ comes out, none too thrilled. He asks Jarrett to give him one reason why he shouldn't punch him in the mouth right now. Jarrett gives him a very good one... he will fire him on the spot if he does. Jarrett tells AJ young punks like him need to prove themselves. AJ's task is simple. He has to win his match against Super Crazy tonight... or he will be fired! C-

Briscoe Brothers v The Extremeists (Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney)

A very mediocre tag team match. The Extremeists have just never got going since entering TNA, and that includes The Sandman. Balls was off his game tonight which doesn't help his cause at all. The Briscoe Brothers meanwhile have been rather up and down. They pick up a momentum boosting victory here in 6:31 when Mark Briscoe defeated Balls Mahoney by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. D-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Keiji Sakoda

Is Sakoda deserving of a title match? There are definately some doubters as he hasn't set TNA alight since his debut, nor has he won many matches. After this one, where Bashir was on top for 95% of the match, it will be a while before he gets another one. Sheik wins easily in 6:58 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 5 of his TNA X Division title. D+

A music video is shown to promote Caribbean Cool. The segment goes down as well as a rainstorm in Jamaica. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (with Midajah) v Spanish Announce Team

A somewhat disappointing tag team championship match. The Maximos tried their upmost to dislodge the reigning champions, but Beer Money aren't champions by luck and pick up the win in 10:53 when Robert Roode defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

Samoa Joe is in the back, he is confident of going all the way to the final in the Ring Kings tournament, and will be a great asset to Jeff Jarrett in knocking out some of his closest competition. C-

Marc Mero v Sabu

Marc Mero is still showing ring rust. What's the betting Sting does later? Sabu is another who has not been living up to what was hoped of him in TNA. This match was rather nondescript with Mero victorious in 8:51 by pinfall with a handful of tights. D-

Ken Shamrock is in the backstage interview area. He talks about how he will disect Marc Mero at Ring Kings and will then look forward to dethroning in King at Bound For Glory 3. C+

Ring King Qualifying Round

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Seaman Stains

Tonight's matches just haven't quite got there so far. This was another, with Seaman Stains having been impressive on the whole since joining TNA while Daniels has been on a slow and steady rise. He kept his win/loss record high tonight yet the match just lacked that spark. Daniels qualifying for Ring Kings in 14:25 by pinfall with a Last Rites. D+

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett is in the ring, along with 'Super' Steve Corino. Jarrett gives Corino the chance to join his World Order. Corino is interested. Jarrett tells him he just wants him to do one thing and he is in and whispers something in Corino's ear off mic. As Jarrett leaves, he tells the fans make the most of the next match as it might be the last time you see AJ Styles. C

AJ Styles v Super Crazy

Finally this edition of Explosion sees a good match. These two are capable of better, but it was still a good match. AJ fights as if his life depends on it, which when you have bills to pay and your job on the line, has an element of truth to it. It's all focus from AJ and he doesn't have as much fizz as usual. It works though, as he's able to stay on top of Crazy and save his TNA career in 13:52 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. Jarrett is nowhere to be seen or heard after the match, he's probably disappointed he can't fire AJ. C

Sting has made his entrance and is in the ring when a masked attacker hits the ring and leaves Sting down on the mat, before escaping through the crowd. C+

Jorge Estrada v Sting

The masked attack enables Estrada to enjoy the opening few minutes of the match. When Sting is getting on top, Steve Corino runs in and attacks him, while Estrada has Garry Morere's attention. This almost enables Estrada to get a surprise victory, but Sting mounts a comeback and triumphs in 8:41 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. Sting is still goddamn rusty! How does he get rid of it?! D+

A music video is shown to promote Spanky. E+

Ring King Qualifying Round

Psicosis v Rey Mysterio Jr

How to save a poor show? Let two of your most entertaining, exciting and high flying wrestlers loose on each other. A very good match from bell to bell, a very open match which could have gone either way with numerous near falls for both competitors. On another day, Psicosis could have won, and against most other opponents he would have got through tonight, but Rey qualifies for the tournament in 17:07 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. Hurrah for Psicosis & Mysterio! B-

Show rating: C

Can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

I lost some money by the North West not having as small a venue as I would have liked to use... and yes, Jarrett does take home the largest pay of anybody on the roster, but then he is the owner.

I'm British, so I've only watched the British version of The Apprentice which features Sir Alan Sugar, Nick Hewer and (the now departed) Margaret Mountford. Afraid I don't know what the 'cobra thing' is that Donald Trump does as I've never seen the American version. I quite like what I'm doing with it though, it adds a Jarrett twist to Rising Stars while, as you say, is also a way of trimming down on the rather large roster I have. And by large, I mean Texas sized.

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 4, March 2004

Mayan Theater, Los Angeles, CA.

Jeff Jarrett strides out into the theater. He tells the fans he had so much enjoyment from firing useless wrestlers last week, he's going to do it all over again. Any match that isn't up to scratch, the loser gets fired. This week, he's also brought along a couple of friends to help him with the process. B-

BJ Whitmer v Slyk Wagner Brown

Whitmer is showing some rust. Where've we heard that before?! Slyk Wagner Brown defeated BJ Whitmer in 4:56 by pinfall with a Drop Of Xtacy. Jarrett appears and says that just won't do. BJ... you're fired! E+

Alex Shane v Shark Boy

Shark Boy defeated Alex Shane in 7:14 by pinfall with a Dead Sea Drop. Jarrett appears, and says that barely touches the standard TNA expects. Shane, you're safe for now, but you won't last much longer if you don't improve soon. D-

Kaos v Super Crazy

Super Crazy defeated Kaos in 12:43 by pinfall with a Trifecta Moonsault. Jarrett appears on the video screen, tells Kaos that was only a little better than Alex Shane, but he has room to improve. D

British Bulldog v Matt Cappotelli

British Bulldog defeated Matt Cappotelli in 15:11 by pinfall with a Powerslam. D

Cappotelli is still in the ring, when Jeff Jarrett walks to join him and give his verdict. Cappotelli is visibly nervous, when Jarrett tells him he shows potential, and might be one that TNA can depend on to curtain jerk in the future. Jarrett adds that thanks to the money he is now saving from firing the crowd borers, he can now go off on a week's vacation. C+

Show rating: D

Attendance: 584

Loss: $2064 (thanks to a much lower attendance than expected)

Oh balls... I've now realised why my buy rate for the last Explosion was so low... all the advanced booking I did for the show was actually done for Bound For Glory.:o

ouch!!! Well one thing - you know that you have a core group that will buy your product even if they don't know who's going to be on the show. That's as good or better than the ratings you used to get on some of the free tv shows you had. I catch myself doing the same thing though (and also NOT checking the box to put the title on the line). I need to try to slow down when it comes to that sort of stuff.

oh here's a short clip showing Trump and his "cobra" hand motion

HHH vs. HBK must have been a really good match, because I wouldn't buy that PPV if Vince walked up to me and handed me money.

Great show you had back there btw.

I was thinking the same thing Sonfaro. Kidman vs Brian Christopher Lawler would be a fun match (even more so on Memphis tv). But there's not a match on the card that'd I'd change the channel to watch much less shelling out hard earned cash for. MY - how far Wrestlemania has fallen

BTW, what kind of rating did it get (and best rated couple matches) for curiosity.

All I can say is - If that's your competition, then you should be making some giant in-roads soon.
