TNA's New Beginnings

Recommended Posts

Explosion

Tuesday, week 1, April 2004

Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ.

Ken Shamrock is in the ring with the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt draped over his shoulder. He knows he has a large target on his back now he is champion and all the top contenders in TNA are going to go straight for the bullseye. He warns everybody that it is not going to be as easy as hitting a bullseye, as whomever wants to take the title, has to take it from him and Super Crazy will find that out first hand tonight. C+

Caribbean Cool v Prophecy

Carlito was off his game tonight, as he has been a few times when he has competed as late. He'll need to pick up his game if he wants his contract renewing when the time comes. The match as a whole was no better and was a let down from what was expected. Despite Carlito's poor showing, Caribbean Cool still pick up the win in 8:39 when Carlito defeated Abyss by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. D-

Sting appears in the back. He says he is not buying Jeff Jarrett's supposed vacation, he smells a rat. Jarrett just wouldn't leave what he has built up, what is his pride and joy, even if Sting doesn't agree with how Jarrett runs it. Sting fully expects Jarrett to be here in some capacity tonight. C+

Ring King Qualifying Round

British Bulldog v Sabu

This was quite a good match between one addicted to drugs and one addicted to pain. A good even contest spilled out onto the floor where the two brawled all the way over to, and practically on top of the announce table which sent Tenay and West scampering. Meanwhile, the referee's count reaches 10 and both men end up eliminated from the Ring King tournament. C-

A music video is shown to promote Spanish Announce Team. It goes down like a lead balloon despite the tag team being popular in Tri State. E+

Spanish Announce Team v Spank Wang

The pairing do put on a good tag team match with Spank Wang. An open contest with SAT showing the superior double team work and Spank Wang showing superior aerial action. SAT continue their upward movement in TNA in 8:58 when Joel Maximo defeated Jimmy Yang by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. C

AJ walks to the ring prior to his match against Marc Mero. He says although he is disappointed he lost the World Championship to Ken Shamrock a couple of weeks ago, he knows he is young and he knows his day will come again. Last week marked the first step on his road back to the top, which he will take his next step against Marc Mero now. C

AJ Styles v Marc Mero

Bloody ring rust! You watch, Sting is bound to still have it later. AJ put in a good performance although the match just lacked something. AJ looked comfortably up through most of the match, but Mero shocked him with a fast roll up and a handful of tights in 13:06. D+

The Sandman is backstage screaming for his Hardcore Championship. He finds some weapons and starts hitting himself with them, screaming that he is the Hardcore Champion. Clearly he hasn't taken Jarrett's decision to rework the title into the National Championship and his subsequent loss to Steve Corino very well at all. C

Ring King Qualifying Round

Rocky Romero v Samoa Joe

Joe was strong throughout the match, which in all honesty was a rather drab affair even though they both put in acceptable performances. Joe is through to the Semi Final due to the earlier double elimination in 7:38 by pinfall with an Island Driver. D

Steve Corino comes out prior to his title defence against Sting. Corino says that he has found his calling in Jeff Jarrett and he looks forward to seeing Jeff on his return next week to discuss him joining Jarrett's World Order. C

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

'Super' Steve Corino (champion) v Sting

And Sting is back! His ring rust has gone and this match was all the better for it. Sting looked strong through the match and Corino got his share of offence in too. Corino threw Sting out of the ring before distracting the referee. Jeff Jarrett runs from the back and smashes Sting over the head with his guitar, before hiding behind the announce table. The referee turns back round, Sting is barely moving and gets counted out in 15:33. 'Super' Steve Corino makes defence number 1 of his TNA National title. B-

Jarrett then reappears, rolls Sting back in the ring where he and Corino beat on Sting until he lies motionless. Jarrett then shakes Corino's hand and welcomes him into his World Order. The crowd boo loudly. B-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ken Shamrock (champion) v Super Crazy

A good match to finish with. Shamrock wears down Crazy for the first 12 minutes, before Marc Mero runs in, hits him with one of his famed punches and dashes out again before the referee spots him. This enables Crazy to get on top, but he can't put Shamrock away. Shamrock mounts a comeback, nails a belly to belly suplex before locking Crazy in his Ankle Lock, winning in 22:34 by submission. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 2 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C

Show rating: C+

Can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 7073 (new TNA record)

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 1, April 2004

Michigan State Fairgrounds, Detroit, MI.

Potter is in the ring and informs the crowd that as Jarrett had informed everybody last week that he was supposedly on vacation this week, TNA management has assigned him to look after Rising Stars this week, so there will be none of Jarrett's shenanigans firing wrestlers who lose tonight. C-

Chris Chetti v Ken Anderson

Chetti is rusty and the two not clicking led to an awkward bout. Ken Anderson defeated Chris Chetti in 6:59 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. Jeff Jarrett then flickers into life on the video screen, much to the shock of everybody in attendance. He says no matter what Potter might have said earlier in the night, he runs TNA, not this supposed TNA management. He said that that match was truly awful. Chris Chetti... you're fired! F+

Lou Fisto v Melina Perez

Lou is rusty. Lou Fisto defeated Melina Perez in 5:16 by pinfall with a Diving Star. Jarrett does not appear on the video screen. Maybe he is doing something, ahem, more private. F+

Delirious v Tony Mamaluke

Tony Mamaluke defeated Delirious in 7:10 by pinfall with a Springboard DDT. Delirious looks up nervously at the video screen... but Jarrett doesn't appear. He's reprieved and relieved. D-

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Mike Quackenbush

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels defeated Mike Quackenbush in 9:51 by pinfall with a Last Rites. Jarrett appears on the video screen. Quackenbush's expression drops about two miles South. Jarrett tells them that wasn't that bad of a match, so he'll watch with interest what Quackenbush does next. D

Potter v Scoot Andrews

Potter defeated Scoot Andrews in 14:48 by submission with a Sharpshooter. Jarrett appears, Potter reassures Andrews in the ring, tell him 'good match kid'. For once Jarrett agrees with Potter. He tells Andrews he has potential and may well one day join all the stars on Explosion. Andrews looks delighted as the show ends. C-

Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, April 2004

Jeff Jarrett is in his office telling the fans what suckers they are for believing that he was on vacation last week and that Rising Stars would pass by without people being assessed. These assessments will be stepped up this week when he takes his World Order to the show to assess a further four wrestlers.

Sting then enters and the two stare each other out. Sting breaks the silence by asking what Jeff is doing, asking why he doesn't run this like a wrestling promotion and why he is treating TNA like his play thing. Jarrett takes offence to this and tells Sting TNA is his wrestling promotion and he runs it as he sees fit. If Sting isn't happy, he can always leave. Sting tells him there is no chance of that, he will see that TNA is run properly and prospers, or he will die trying. If that means going against the ownership and even taking Jarrett out, so be it. He points his bat directly at Jarrett before leaving. Jarrett has a look of concern. C

Briscoe Brothers v Revolution

The opening match is a fairly drab affair, pitting the upwardly mobile Briscoe Brothers, looking to continue their recent fine run against a team who has really gone off the boil in Revolution. The trends continue in 7:11 when Mark Briscoe defeated Frankie Kazarian by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. D

Caribbean Cool come out for the next match and Carlito gets a microphone. He says how he and Colt Cabana were one of the pioneering teams in TNA, battling and often getting the better of legendary tag teams like the Road Warriors and Nasty Boys. He questions why nobodies like Sexual Standouts get a tag team title match at Ring Kings while he and Colt aren't even booked for the pay per view. Some of the crowd cheer and others boo. C+

Caribbean Cool v Sexual Standouts

This match proved why. Sexual Standouts have come some way since starting out as a black masked, black clad near goth joins a former seaman in a comedy duo. The fact they are still a black masked, black clad near goth and a former seaman comedy duo doesn't disguise the fact they are both decent wrestlers who team well together. They win this match in 8:31 when Mystery defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Carlito and Colt need to get back on the game. D+

Mystery walks backstage following the match and he and Seaman Stains part ways, high fiving each other as they do so. 'Cowboy' James Storm comes across Mystery and the two start brawling backstage, with Storm coming out on top before TNA officials break it up. B-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Amazing Red

Despite Bashir being off his game tonight, this is still a good, high flying match. Red's superior speed means Bashir struggles to get hold of him for periods of the match, but it is Bashir's coniving tactics that come out on top in this one in 11:32 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 6 of his TNA X Division title. C-

Bashir then celebrates his victory by praying in the middle of the ring. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions, with Midajah) v Cocky Connection (with SoCal Val)

A straight forward title defence for the champions. Rave and Devine never seriously troubled them in the whole match. The most stimulating part of the match was when Midajah and Val got into an altercation at ringside which Devine came to break up. With him distracted, Beer Money took advantage and won in 11:08 when Robert Roode defeated Jimmy Rave by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

A music video is shown to promote Psicosis. C+

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Psicosis

Psicosis has been impressive since the debut of TNA two years ago. He has put in a solid match whenever he is in the ring (tonight being no different) and has slowly risen through the ranks in TNA to the point of knocking on the door of main events and receiving a World Championship match on a previous Explosion. Hence, this win for Brown came as a bit of a shock, despite his obvious size and strength advantage with the end coming in 7:44 by pinfall with The Pounce. C-

Ring King Qualifying Round

Doug Williams v Potter

Two Brits facing off who are polar opposites. Potter is the old school good guy who wants to do everything by the book and for the good of himself, the fans and the company. Williams is the bad guy who does things at whatever cost, purely for the good of himself. That and he helps Jeff Jarrett out whenever Jarrett calls. That loyalty may reward him one day. On this day, the two Brits put on a decent match and it is Potter who advances in 10:37 by submission with a Sharpshooter. C+

AJ Styles is walking to the ring for the second Ring King qualifier when, out of nowhere, Abyss attacks. He whips AJ into the guard before throwing him into the ring between the middle and top ropes. Abyss enters and the bell rings. C-

Ring King Qualifying Round

Abyss v AJ Styles

Even though the match had little flow due to a lack of psychology, it was still good and entertaining. Abyss made full use of his sneak attack by dominating AJ in the early going. AJ mounts a comeback and is close to winning. However, he can't hit the Styles Clash on Abyss and his pre match mauling begins to wear down on AJ. Abyss takes advantages and reaches the Quarter Finals in 13:57 by pinfall with The Black Hole. C

Ken Shamrock talks us through some of his training routine in the lead up to a match, covering cardiovascular and strength work as well as technique and nutrition. C+

Sting v Super Crazy

Crazy seems to have been fed to the lions as late, as he has been facing top face after top face. Even though his win loss record has been far from impressive, his performances have been. Add to that Sting returning to his form of old and this was a very good match. The wily veteran called upon all of his nous and experience to get the better of his much younger and faster opponent as he picks up the win in 16:18 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. B-

Show rating: C+

Show is a success and should increase TNA's popularity. Johnny Devine was used too much.

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 2, April 2004

The Family Arena, St Louis, MO.

Jeff Jarrett has the stick and tells tonight's competitors the heat is really on. The JWO are here and will be giving four guys a really stiff test. If they do well enough, they stay. If not, they're fired! A little light relief first though when two ladies do battle for number one contendership. Who will stand the heat and who will be out of the kitchen? C+

Number one contender match for the Ladies Championship

Lou Fisto v Mickie James

Lou is showing some rust still but the two show great chemistry. Lou Fisto defeated Mickie James in 5:37 by pinfall with a Diving Star. E-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Nate Webb

Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Nate Webb in 7:54 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 7 of his TNA X Division title. Webb is relieved when Jarrett does not appear after the match. D

Doug Williams v Rick Michaels

These two showed great chemistry too. Doug Williams defeated Rick Michaels in 6:31 by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. No appearance from Jarrett again. D

Samoa Joe v Scoot Andrews

Road agent notes: Samoa Joe seemed off his game tonight. Samoa Joe looked good out there.

Are you smoking something Bill Dundee? Samoa Joe defeated Scoot Andrews in 9:42 by pinfall with an Island Driver. Nobody has been fired yet. Is Jarrett going soft? D

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Reckless Youth

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Reckless Youth in 12:43 by pinfall with The Stroke. Jarrett congratulates Reckless Youth on a good match. However, he's not fired anybody tonight, so... before Explosion next week, Nate Webb, Rick Michaels and Scoot Andrews will face off in a three way where the loser gets fired. C-

Wrestling News

The wrestling world is mourning the passing of two former greats last night.

Stu Hart was the patriach of the famous Hart family and his dungeon has trained many wrestlers and started their path to stardom. He was aged 88.

The Iron Sheik found fame in the WWF and is a former World and Tag Team Champion. His passing is drug related, which again throws up the debate about drug use in wrestling. He was 61.

In other news, 65 year old Gene Okerlund has retired.

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, April 2004

Campanelli Stadium, Brockton, MA.

(Pre show - Scoot Andrews defeated Nate Webb and Rick Michaels in 6:55 when Scoot Andrews defeated Nate Webb by pinfall with a Forces Of Nature. Jarrett comes out and tells Nate Webb... You're fired! E+)

Ken Shamrock is in the ring and has a mic. He says how he intends to be the NWA TNA Champion for a long time, he wants to be remembered as the greatest fighter ever. He's been UFC Champion and he is NWA TNA Champion, and he wants to be known as the best. He tells Marc Mero he needs to be ready at Ring Kings, as otherwise he will be slaughtered. C

Caribbean Cool v Cocky Connection

A standard fare tag team match which is why the match didn't get a particularly high rating. Caribbean Cool address their 'blip' from last week, earning the victory in 10:22 when Carlito defeated Jimmy Rave by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. D

AJ Styles v Slyk Wagner Brown

Not the best match AJ has ever been involved in, but then again it is far from the best opponent he has ever faced. He is a class above Slyk and it shows throughout this bout, as he comfortably wins in 7:48 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. D+

A music video is shown to promote Psicosis. C-

British Bulldog v Rocky Romero

This was a shock. Maybe Bulldog is on something but he was never in the match. Rocky dominates the match and wins in 3:47 by pinfall with a fast roll up. D

Psicosis v Sabu

Business picks up and the fans are treated to their first good match of the night. Two high flying daredevils square off, give each other what they have in an even contest and it doesn't take long for Psicosis to get over his surprise defeat last week, emerging victorious in 12:08 by pinfall with a Guillotine Leg Drop. C

Mike Tenay has a sit down interview with Sting. Sting again voices his concerns over how Jeff Jarrett is running TNA. He warns Jarrett that if he doesn't change his ways sooner rather than later, he will have to take a stand, even if it is by himself. B-

Beer Money (with Midajah) & Sheik Abdul Bashir v Sexual Standouts & Spanky

This match was a little disappointing, it had the potential to be better. The team of champions carries some valuable momentum going into Ring Kings when in 13:47 when Robert Roode defeated Mystery by pinfall with a Northern Lariat. D+

Jeff Jarrett is in the backstage interview area. He tells Sting TNA are doing mighty fine as they are. Attendances are higher than they have ever been. More people are watching the pay per views than ever before, and they are becoming more and more popular throughout the country every week. If Sting has a problem with that, then he can face Jarrett himself, rather than just talk about it. He offers Sting the chance to meet at Lethal Lockdown, no matter if they meet in the mean time. C+

Ken Shamrock & 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v 'Super' Steve Corino & Marc Mero

Another preview for Sunday. Shamrock looked good, while Mero looks rusty and tired by the end. It's a good match which ebbed and flowed. Monty did not look particularly out of place despite the step up in class. He could be a challenger in the future. Shamrock stands tall though and earns his team the win in 18:24 when Ken Shamrock defeated Marc Mero by submission with an Ankle Lock. C-

Sting, Potter & Rey Mysterio Jr v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels & Abyss

The seven remaining in the Ring King tournament face off in a three on four tag team match five days before the tournament. Sting, Jarrett, Rey and Joe look the strongest here and look the likelier to progress on Sunday, although Jarrett faces Rey in the Quarter Final. The man advantage tells tonight, especially when the quartet can work the referee and do things behind his back. Jarrett picks up a massive win for his team in 22:08 when 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Sting by pinfall with The Stroke and the four celebrate after the match. C

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 3, April 2004

Cricket Arena, Charlotte, NC.

Jeff Jarrett does his usual thing, telling the wrestlers they need to perform or they are out. He is about to tell them to show him what they've got, when the lights go off. When they come back on, he's dazed and hurt and nobody else is in sight. B

Amy Dumas v Jillian Hall

Amy's debut is a little disappointing. Amy Dumas defeated Jillian Hall in 5:39 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. E+

Ken Anderson v The Inferno Kid

Ken Anderson defeated The Inferno Kid in 7:39 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. Jeff Jarrett appears. He says he will find out who was the perpetrator earlier and they will pay dearly for their actions. In the mean time, he says that match was awful. Inferno Kid... you're fired! E-

Rey Mysterio Jr v Sicodelico Jr

Sicodelico is rusty. Rey Mysterio Jr defeated Sicodelico Jr. in 6:55 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. We can't see Sicodelico's relief when Jarrett doesn't appear. He wears a mask. D

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Gail Kim v Lou Fisto

Lou is still rusty. Lou Fisto defeated Gail Kim in 8:47 by pinfall with a Diving Star. Lou Fisto wins the TNA Ladies title. E-

Ring Kings 2004

Sunday, week 3, April 2004

American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, TX.

A limo pulls up in the arena, and out step Jarrett's World Order looking all business and not willing to talk. B

Ring King Quarter Final

Potter v Abyss

A good match to kick things off with the opening quarter final. Two completely different styles and Abyss' strength is often countered by Potter's technique in a contest that can go either way. Abyss goes for the Black Hole Slam, but Potter grabs his neck, shifts his weight and counters with a DDT. With Abyss hurt and stunned, Potter applies a Sharpshooter and wins in 12:15 by submission. C

A short video is shown highlighting Joe's win over Rocky Romero in the qualifying round which has got him into the semi finals thanks to Sabu & Bulldog's double count out. C

Ring King Quarter Final

Sting v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

These two showed pretty good chemistry, although Daniels picked a bad night to have an off night. Sting simply outclassed him, and although Daniels has steadily improved since debuting in TNA, this match showed how much further he still has to go. We see our second Sharpshooter of the night as Sting progresses in 7:55 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C

A music video is shown to promote AJ Styles. This could end up being the worst segment of the night. D-

Ring King Quarter Final

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Rey Mysterio Jr

A very good match and one where Rey was a constant threat throughout, despite as usual being the underdog. He was about to hit a West Coast Pop, only for Jarrett to duck out of the way. Rey landed awkwardedly and this was just the opening Jarrett needed as he won in 12:35 by pinfall with The Stroke. B-

'Super' Steve Corino is seen walking to the ring for his National Championship defence. Maybe there is something worse than AJ's video. E+

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

'Super' Steve Corino (champion) v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown

I've got a feeling this match could be the worst of the night, which won't necessarily be a bad thing as it was close to being good itself. Brown fought well in his first title match in TNA, but it was the wise old owl that is Steve Corino that had an answer for everything Brown threw at him, whether it was by fair means or foul. Corino defends in 9:53 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. 'Super' Steve Corino makes defence number 2 of his TNA National title. D+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Adbul Bashir (champion) v Spanky

Another quality X Division match, these X Division athletes really do put on a good match show after show. Bashir was getting agitated by perceived slow counts by Mark Johnson, even though to everybody else they were the same cadence he always counts at. As he was getting more agitated, he started breaking the rules, up to the point where Mark Johnson really got in Bashir's face and almost disqualified him. Spanky almost took advantage and rolled Bashir up for a near fall. Spanky got on top and got a couple more near falls before Bashir stole one in 13:48 by pinfall with a handful of tights. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 8 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Ken Shamrock is backstage and he tells the fans how it is now Shamrock's time in TNA and he aims to be champion for months, hopefully years. Mero tonight is just the next of many who will challenge and fail. C

Ring King Semi Final

Potter v Samoa Joe

This was a very good match, one of the best TNA has seen to date. Back and forth action throughout, both men coming close to reaching the final on a few occasions, including Joe someway, somehow kicking out after a Clayhead and Potter likewise kicking out of a Muscle Buster. Potter wins a really hard fought contest in 16:46 by submission with a Sharpshooter, which is proving to be a popular and very useful move tonight. The disappoint on Joe's face afterwards is clear for all to see as he was fresh and Potter already had to overcome Abyss. The fans give both wrestlers a warm round of applause after the match. B

Sting is in the depths of the arena prior to his Semi Final. He says he has been wanting to get hold of Jarrett for some time, and while this is a first chance tonight, tonight is not about teaching Jarrett how to run and shape TNA, tonight is about reaching the final of the Ring King tournament. B-

Ring King Semi Final

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Sting

Another high quality match, just shaded by the previous Potter versus Joe match. Another tournament match that could go either way, the majority of competitors in the tournament tonight have been very closely matched. Old WCW fans have some flashbacks to their battles in the defunct promotion. Sting hits the Stinger Splash and locks in the Scorpion Deathlock only for Jarrett to worm his was to the ropes. Jarrett uses a low blow to regain the upperhand, which indirectly leads to The Stroke and a win in 18:50. After beating Jerry Lynn in the final last year, Jarrett has to beat Potter this time to repeat his Ring King win. B-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions) v Sexual Standouts

The only tag team contest of the night is a championship match. The challengers worry the champions with their speed and good teamwork, nearly winning the titles on a couple of occasions. The champs use smarts and resiliency to fight back and earn the win in 14:36 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Seaman Stains by pinfall with a DWI. Beer Money make defence number 6 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. C-

As we wait for the match between Ken Shamrock and Marc Mero to commence, Tenay and Don West run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ken Shamrock v Marc Mero

Shamrock stood out again. He really is a class act. Mero meanwhile is still rusty and was visibly tiring as the match wore on. His better days are clearly gone and his time at the top might well be ending. Although the match did last a fair while, there was only one likely winner, the match ending in 18:55 by submission with an Ankle Lock. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 3 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C-

Having picked up the victory, Ken Shamrock celebrates in the ring. C+

RING KING FINAL

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Potter

As good a match, no a better match than these two have ever put on, and one where the winner was only known when the referee's hand struck the mat for a third time. Both men had had two tough matches tonight to reach the final, so the match started at a slow pace, which saw Potter emerge the better. Jarrett came back and for a good while both men traded strikes, counters and submission holds. On 13 minutes, the tide really turned when Jarrett backed the referee into the corner, which enabled Samoa Joe to run in and nail Potter with a Muscle Buster. Potter refused to give in, and endured another 5 minutes of onslaught with little offence before Jarrett eventually managed to win a second straight Ring King tournament in 18:57 by pinfall with a second Stroke. As Jarrett is walking back, Tenay interviews him and Jarrett proclaims to be the King of TNA, he has proved it by being The Ring King for two straight years. Next is the World Heavyweight Championship at Bound For Glory 3 and TNA taking over the world. C

TNA News

The latest round of TNA in house drug testing has found both Spanky and 'Super' Steve Corino to be clean.

British Bulldog however took a comprehensive test following failing a standard test after Wrestle Fest. This comprehensive test has shown Bulldog to be a steroid user and as a result TNA has no alternative but to release Bulldog from his contract.

The Iron Sheik found fame in the WWF and is a former World and Tag Team Champion. His passing is drug related, which again throws up the debate about drug use in wrestling. He was 61.

Whoa, I am not going to lie I did find this funny. Yeah I know that I am a sick person.:)

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, April 2004

L. Brown Athletic Center, Piscataway, NJ.

Sting walks out to a good reception. He calls out Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett comes out and Sting tells him that just like how he runs the company, he has to use dubious methods to come out on top. Jarrett tells Sting he is jealous because he isn't top dog, Jarrett is the owner and King of TNA, and there is nothing Sting can do about it. Sting tells Jarrett to put up or shut up. Sting wants a piece of Jarrett. Jarrett says Sting can only have a one on one match again when Sting deserves it. Jarrett tells him he will do one thing for him though. If Sting can somehow find three partners, he can face Jarrett's World Order in Lethal Lockdown. Sting, half pissed, agrees. C

Cage match

Winners faces X Division Champion at Lockdown

Spanky v Jimmy Yang v Jose Maximo v Joel Maximo

Two tag teams face off in singles competition and put on a really good match. High flying action abound here, with the cage also being utilised on occasion as a launch pad. Most inside the arena expected Spanky to walk away with the win, but his partner won in 12:47 when Jimmy Yang defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Corkscrew 450 Splash while Spanky stopped Joel from breaking up the pin. C+

The Sandman is walking around backstage, looking unhappy and bemoaning the fact the Hardcore Championship is gone and there are very few hardcore matches in TNA now. He has to fight another regular match, this time against Sting tonight. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions, with Midajah) v Revolution

A somewhat drab affair which Beer Money dominated from bell to bell. Revolution have been all out of sorts the past few weeks, and rumours abound that Nova doesn't get along at all with Jeff Jarrett can't be helping. Beer Money defend easily in 6:40 when Robert Roode defeated Frankie Kazarian by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 7 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

Ken Shamrock appears in the backstage interview area. He tells about how he mauled Marc Mero. He tells about how he is looking forward to tonight, where he will face Psicosis and he will also find out who he will be facing for the title at Lockdown. He is also looking forward to Bound For Glory 3, where he will defend against Jeff Jarrett. He warns everybody that he is in the form of his life right now, and when he is in the form of his life, nobody can beat him. B-

Keiji Sakoda v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

A little disappointing from two wrestlers who are capable of more. Daniels continues his rise through the TNA ranks with another victory, against somebody who is trying to make a name for himself in TNA. Daniels wins in 7:45 by pinfall with a Last Rites. D+

A video plays hyping 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels vs. Psicosis at Lockdown, which isn't received too well. D-

Potter v Slyk Wagner Brown

These two met on Rising Stars a few weeks back and put on a good match. They repeated that tonight. Despite still physically (and possibly) mentally smarting from his defeat in the Ring King final, Potter still overcomes Brown in a match which in truth only looked like going one way, despite Brown putting up a spirited battle. Potter is back on track in 8:58 by submission with a Sharpshooter. C-

Spanish Announce Team attack Mark Briscoe backstage, and leave him down and out. E

Sting v The Sandman (with Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney)

Sandman might not be happy with the lack of hardcore action of late, but he puts on a good match with the one and only Sting, who is strong throughout the bout. Sting takes Sandman's fellow Extremists out of play by vaulting over the top rope and hitting a cross body on both Axl and Balls. The Sandman spots an opportunity and grabs his Singapore cane, swings at Sting who ducks and Sandman nails the ring post instead. Sting takes advantage, throws Sandman back in the ring, hits the Scorpion Death Drop and Splash before winning in 10:42 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C

When Sting reaches backstage, he rallies some troops together. He gathers AJ Styles, Potter and Rey Mysterio Jr, asking both if they want in on Lethal Lockdown and if they are ready for the job at hand. All three say yes without hesitation. Sting has his team very quickly, and quite a team. C

Cage match

Winner gets a World Championship match at Lockdown

Abyss v AJ Styles v Rey Mysterio Jr v Samoa Joe

A brutal cage match where Rey was the only one not bleeding by the end of the match. All four men get in good offence and have likely three counts only for the pin attempt to be broken up. Joe then locks a rear naked choke on AJ only for Rey to break it up abruptly using a corkscrew leg drop. Abyss then takes his chance in 17:34 when Abyss defeated Rey Mysterio Jr by pinfall with The Black Hole with AJ out and Joe dazed. Abyss is going to Lockdown to fight for the title. C+

Steve Corino comes to ringside and proclaims Jeff Jarrett's idea to change the Hardcore Championship into the National Championship is one of the best he has ever had. Corino is a champion the fans should be proud of, he carries the belt with pride and fights to defend it at all costs. Carlito then appears, and suggests to Corino to put that to the test next week by accepting his challenge for a title match. Corino accepts. Corino v Carlito next week! C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ken Shamrock (champion) v Psicosis

Psicosis gets another title opportunity, but comes up short again. Shamrock is, like he says, on fire at the moment, and it looks right now that no matter what anybody can throw at him, he is able to handle it. While Abyss clearly has the size and strength advantage at Lockdown, and also has his affinity for hardcore matches and severe pain, Shamrock still looks like he won't be beaten right now, and he is at home inside a cage. In this match he triumphed in 16:17 by submission with an Ankle Lock. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 4 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-
