TNA's New Beginnings

Recommended Posts

Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, June 2004

Four States Center, Texarkana, AR.

Jeff Jarrett is confronting Ken Shamrock in the locker room. Jarrett tells Shamrock he made a big mistake by not joining him to help TNA grow beyond recognition. He then starts insulting Shamrock telling him he is "washed up" and that he "isn't fit to lace Dan Severn's boots". Shamrock is enraged, charges and Jarrett and throws him into the lockers. He then applies an ankle lock on a fallen Jarrett before security wade him and forceably escort Shamrock away. C-

Spanish Announce Team v Cocky Connection

A fairly short tag team match to kick things off. SAT continue their upward spiral in TNA thanks to a good performance from Jose while Cocky Connection never seemed to have got out of first gear thanks to a poor performance from Johnny Devine. SAT pick up the win in 7:09 when Joel Maximo defeated Johnny Devine by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. D

A music video is shown to promote AJ Styles. B-

Doug Williams & Frank v Caribbean Cool

A pivotal match, one which could shape who is in line for tag team glory in TNA. Carlito was lacklustre and it cost his team the match. Doug and Frank have shown some good work together so far in their short time as a tag team. They win and build momentum to Bound For Glory 3 in 9:46 when Frank defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage. D+

Beer Money see Abyss alone backstage. They spy an opportunity and attack him from behind, throwing him into a nearby wall and leaving the big man down. Things aren't looking good for the tag team challengers later on. E+

Super Crazy v Super Dragon

In the Super battle, it's disappointing, thanks largely to the two not being able to click. Gah! While they both went for their aerial arsenal, their timing with each other was out and it looked awkward. What was worse, was it was a long match, booked so as I anticipated some top quality lucha libre style action. Crazy picks up the victory in 15:51 by pinfall with a Trifecta Moonsault. D+

Sting is backstage and congratulates Jeff Jarrett, saying he has finally got something right! Handing over control of Rising Stars to Potter is a very good move, because he knows that developing the future stars developes the future of the company. Sting knows Potter will do his utmost to help tomorrow's stars fulfil their potential. C+

Homicide v Rocky Romero

Homicide's anticipated TNA debut is a little flat. While he has the better of young Rocky, the match doesn't have any real spark to it. Homicide's debut is a winning one in 7:39 by pinfall with a Lariat. D+

SoCal Val comes out to dance to some music. She then starts to excite the crowd by first taking off her shirt and then her skirt. Mystery then comes out and starts to dance with an underwear clad Val, which Val is only too happy to do. Crowd gets jealous. D-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions, with Midajah) v Prophecy

Chance Prophet has to fight on his own when Abyss doesn't appear, and he is mad, taking it to Beer Money in the early going until they start double teaming him. After six minutes, Abyss ambles down to ringside, clearly in pain from the earlier attack but gets a hot tag and takes it to both Storm and Roode. Prophecy are in the assendecy and Abyss is about to hit a Black Hole Slam when he drops to his knees, looking like he is about to pass out. Unable to take in Chance Prophet, Beer Money defend their titles in 11:01 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Abyss by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 10 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Carlito is in the back where he is with Steve Corino. He is admiring Corino's National Championship belt, before he tells Corino that he wants it and he'll take it next week. Corino tells Carlito he is dreaming, but if he wants to see if he can create his fairytale, Corino will turn it into a nightmare. C-

Sting v Frankie Kazarian

Blimey, are we going to have a good match tonight? Not even Sting is able to rescue this one from falling in the decidedly average category. The matches just aren't hitting the spot tonight. Sting wins with some to spare in 11:42 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. D+

Jeff Jarrett is backstage, somewhat recovered from Shamrock's earlier assault. Jarrett tells Shamrock that for his earlier actions, he is considering whether to take legal action, strip him of his title, or simply beat the crap out of him at Bound For Glory 3 in a no disqualification match. B-

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Mystery

Finally, we have a good match tonight. Mystery puts up a good fight in tonight's main event, and does get close to becoming the second holder of the National Championship. However, maybe his earlier dancing with SoCal Val was too much of a distraction... and let's face it, you're not a proper man if it wasn't... as Corino overcomes him in 22:37 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. Steve Corino makes defence number 7 of his TNA National title. C+

Here is a little secret... I never set the winner of any match on Rising Stars except for a rare championship match.

That only makes it more awesome...even the computer loves the quack!

TNA News

Christopher Daniels and Psicosis have both signed 9 month contract extensions. Rey Mysterio Jr has signed for a further 18 months.

Other News

WWF held Bad Blood and drew a 15,000 crowd but it received a lukewarm reception. Bradshaw won King of the Ring for a second time.

Glad to see you got them both signed up as they surely both have a gret future. All Hail King Bradshaw!

mmmm underwear dancing!! where was I?

sounds like something that should have been on a different PPV though. lol

The Rising Stars seem to be trying - nice profit even tho it was a lower rating. I was going to suggest taking the women off the show, but guess they are rather cheap. If you were able to book a solid main event (even if its Rave vs Reckless Youth) - someone who can deliver a match in the C's, then maybe the another "trainer" vs an up and comer to bring them along (and maybe deliver a good match) to beef up the overall ratings without killing the cost????

Glad to see you re-signed The Fallen Angel, he is one of my personal favorites in the real life TNA. The guy is just awsome!

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, June 2004

Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA.

Backstage and it's Ken Shamrock we first see as he is handed papers from a man in a suit, sent from 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett's lawyer. Shamrock lashes out in shock at the suit when he finds out that he is being sued for throwing Jarrett into the lockers last week! B-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Amazing Red

Tenay and West voice their excitement as on this edition of Explosion every one of the men's titles in TNA will be defended only two weeks before Bound For Glory 3. The first is the X Division, where Amazing Red performs, well, amazing moves. It's not enough though, neither to win or to stop the match from being average. A suffering Sheik gets one out of nowhere in 8:44 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Sheik Abdul Bashir makes defence number 13 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Potter & 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Abyss & Slyk Wagner Brown

Our first taster for Bound For Glory 3 comes in the form of a tag team match which features four competitors who will face off at the big event in singles action. I wish it hadn't. Abyss put in a poor performance while he also shares zero chemistry with Slyk, so his team wasn't a team but rather two individuals. The match was rather stodgy, ending in a draw in 9:55 following a double disqualification with all four men brawling. Potter and Abyss carry on brawling after the match, where Abyss Black Hole Slams Potter onto a steel chair. He says "Monster's Ball" above a motionless Potter. D

A music video is shown to promote Keiji Sakoda. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money (champions, with Midajah) v Spanish Announce Team

Robert Roode comes out in his new city slicker gimmick, which gets an initial B+ rating. Road agents report Storm also needs a change of gimmick. This match was no better than the previous tag team contest. SAT showed their fine recent form, but Beer Money are a step up in class from their recent opponents and they emerged triumphant in 11:51 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a DUI. Beer Money make defence number 11 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

AJ Styles v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

The future of TNA? It's a good match, maybe in a few years at the top end of the card it could be a great match. As with a lot of other TNA originals who recently need freshening up, Don Muraco reports that AJ needs looking at too. An entertaining, back and forth match ended with AJ winning in 12:55 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C

Sting is in the back of the arena, stating his disbelief that Jarrett would do something so stupid as to sue the World Champion of his own company. All this does is deeply tarnish TNA's image, which is no good at all if he wants the company to grow. He finishes by saying he will go through Marc Mero at Bound For Glory 3 on his way to getting to Jarrett and turning TNA in a positive direction. B-

Lucha Libre Tag Team Match

Psicosis & Super Crazy v Rey Mysterio Jr & Super Dragon

These four meet in lucha libre singles action at Bound For Glory 3. Here, Psicosis and Crazy prove they are a much superior pairing than Rey and Dragon, picking up the win in a good match in 14:40 by two straight falls, with the final fall happening when Psicosis defeated Super Dragon by pinfall with a Guillotine Leg Drop. C-

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Carlito

After making the challenge last week, Carlito put in a terrible performance, which makes it surprising that the match turned out good. As such, Corino was very much on top for almost the entire match and defended his title far easier than he expected in 13:28 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. Steve Corino makes defence number 8 of his TNA National title. C

Spanky appeared after the match and told Corino that he won't find it as easy as that at Bound For Glory as he is hungry for his first taste of TNA gold. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ken Shamrock (champion) v Doug Williams

When I booked this as the main event, I did wonder whether Williams would be able to compete at this level. He very pleasantly surprised me in what turned out to be a very good match. He also surprised Shamrock by how much of a handful he turned out to be. Every time Shamrock managed to get the edge, he couldn't put Williams away, not even with his belly to belly suplex that he has used to defeat opponents before in TNA. Williams came close too, but he finally succumbed in 15:50 by submission with an Ankle Lock. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 9 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. Williams has emerged from this match with a lot of credit though. B-

After the match, the cameras follow Shamrock to the back and through the backstage area. He finds Jarrett's locker room and kicks the door down, startling Jarrett who is in there alone. Shamrock shouts at Jarrett about being sued and he threatens that if Jarrett goes ahead with the lawsuit, then he will walk out of TNA with the NWA TNA World Championship. Jarrett says he can't do that, but Shamrock gets in Jarrett's face that he can, because he is only on a pay per appearance deal and not a written contract, so he can walk at any time. He tells Jarrett he has until Explosion next week to decide. He either drops the lawsuit, or he will have TNA's biggest show of the year and no NWA TNA World Champion. Jarrett is stunned into silence. C+

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, June 2004

Dragon Stadium, Southlake, TX.

Ken Shamrock is in the ring, holding his NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt. He tells Jeff Jarrett that he has had a week to make his decision, and now is the time to tell everybody. Either he drops his lawsuit against Shamrock or Shamrock walks out of TNA with the NWA TNA Championship. "Come on Jeff... Vince is on standby..."

Jarrett's music hits and he's looking angry. He stomps towards the ring almost like a small child who's not got his way. He tells Shamrock he hates him, but that he's not stupid. It would be business suicide if Shamrock left, especially for the WWF while he was the NWA TNA Champion. He tells Shamrock that the lawsuit has been withdrawn. Shamrock is pleased. Jarrett tells him not to be too pleased, because if Shamrock touches Jarrett before their match Bound For Glory 3 at any time outside of their scheduled tag team match later tonight, then Shamrock will be stripped of the title. Shamrock just shrugs and leaves, not taking his eyes of Jarrett while he does so. C

Colt Cabana v Seaman Stains v Jay Briscoe v Jose Maximo

Tenay and West voice their excitement about Bound For Glory 3 in five days time and how each match tonight carries importance going into Sunday. They also state that the tag team match between Caribbean Cool and Spanish Announce Team will also now feature Briscoe Brothers and Sexual Standouts with the winners becoming the number one contenders for the tag team titles. This particular match is an average affair, with it being a fatal fourway it's a bit of a fluster cuck, if you know what I mean... The end comes in 7:33 when Seaman Stains defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Tidal Wave. D

Carlito v Mystery v Mark Briscoe v Joel Maximo

The match between their respective partners is no better, but Sexual Standouts carry all the momentum into Bound For Glory 3 in 8:57 when Mystery defeated Mark Briscoe by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. D

A music video is shown to promote Keiji Sakoda. C

Beer Money (with Midajah) & Tony Mamaluke v Doug Williams, Frank & Sheik Abdul Bashir

'Cowboy' comes out with a gambling gimmick and his cowboy hat, which is received well (A rating). The match was fine, but short of being of a good quality. The JWO trio teamed much better together, as Mamaluke was a bit out of sorts with Beer Money. This helped Jarrett's World Order win the match in 10:48 when Doug Williams defeated Robert Roode by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. D+

A music video is shown to promote AJ Styles. C+

AJ Styles & Amazing Red v Homicide & 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

This was a good match. AJ has switched to a Fan's Own gimmick which gets an initial B+ and he put in an excellent performance. Their opponents just don't work well as a team though, as their timing is all over the place. A fast paced, entertaining match concludes in 14:51 when AJ Styles defeated Homicide by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C-

Sting comes out prior to his tag team encounter. He tells of his relief that Jarrett has seen sense and dropped his lawsuit against Ken Shamrock. He couldn't imagine how bad it would have been had Shamrock walked with the NWA TNA World Championship, though he wouldn't have blamed Shamrock for doing so had Jarrett not dropped the lawsuit. Sting says he is counting down the days until he can get hold of Jarrett himself. B-

Sting & Potter v Marc Mero & Abyss

Another good match, and one where Sting and Potter are on top for most of it. Abyss seems more hell bent on beating on Potter than caring about the fact it's a tag match, which plays into Sting's and Potter's hands. With Mero in trouble, Abyss ventures off to start brawling with Potter, leaving Mero at Sting's mercy. It's the crucial moment in the bout as in 13:45 when Sting defeated Marc Mero by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C-

Back after a commercial break, and we seeing Abyss beating down on a ground Potter in the back with a variety of weapons, with somebody giving him directions. The camera pans round to reveal... Harley Race! Unfortunately, the segment goes down like a lead balloon. What has Race done to offend TNA before he even set foot in the place? E+

Rey Mysterio Jr v Super Crazy

It's not the first time these have met, and it probably won't be the last. The two again put on a good match, which with the two knowing each other so well could have gone either way. With Psicosis and Super Dragon added into the mix at Bound For Glory in a Lucha Libre four way match, it's going to be really interesting. Rey just edges this one in 13:44 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. C+

Corino is in the ring, ready for the main event. He tells Spanky there is no need to show up on Sunday, after all, what is the point of showing up only to lose? Spanky takes exception to this and tells Corino if he has had any thoughts about life not holding the National Championship? He tells him maybe he should think about it, because after Sunday, he might have to get used to it. Corino then attacks Spanky, and the two start brawling... C-

Ken Shamrock & Spanky v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett & Steve Corino

...which leads to Shamrock and Jarrett to run to the ring and we have a four way brawl to kick off the main event. Mark Johnson eventually gains control and we have a top quality tag team match to lead us into Bound For Glory 3. It is a really good match too, the best on Explosion for a while. Jarrett and Corino teamed well as expected, but the unknown factor of Shamrock and Spanky, they did a pretty good job together too. Some classic tag team action, with double teams, heels cheating, heels fake tagging before Spanky hot tagging in Shamrock who cleans house. It's been seen countless times before, yet done well it never fails to entertain. Shamrock tags Spanky back in, and this was the beginning of the end. He got worked on by Corino, before Jarrett got in, stopped him from tagging Shamrock back in and won in 16:53 when 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Spanky by pinfall with The Stroke. The heels celebrate over a beaten Spanky. Shamrock is about to attack when Jarrett warns him the match has finished. If Shamrock lays one finger on him, he has no title. Shamrock reluctantly, and angrily leaves the ring. B-

Rising Stars

Thursday, week 4, June 2004

The Family Arena, St Louis, MO.

Potter comes out to the ring and looks a little sad. He tells the fans that because TNA has been increasing in popularity so quickly of late, then Rising Stars cannot justify itself running in it's current format. It could be saved in the form of a television deal, but at the moment there is not one forthcoming. I've thought of a couple of 'prizes' so to speak... one is getting to name a wrestler in TNA (as there are a couple of guys who need freshening up, and a couple of 'Rising Stars' who could come onto Explosion such as Quack and Ken Anderson). Another is to name one of the five new tag teams I've created for after Bound For Glory 3 to beef up the division a bit more.

See how it goes. Incidentally, there is one match that I'm not going to pick a winner for, simply because I can't decide which way to take it.

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH

Ken Shamrock v 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (C+ heat)

hard to bet against the owner

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Beer Money v Doug Williams & Frank (D)

Beer Money had a long run, but rather lackluster of late. Like to see them develop a good feud w/o the belts to get some excitement in them. If nothing else, the thrill of the chase may help get them back over - Storm and Roode taking on other factions of JWO in variety of matches, even against Jeff for his soon to be newly won World title.

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

'Super' Steve Corino v Spanky (D+)

Corino has brought some luster to this title - cleaning off the tarnish from being the old hardcore title. He's been one of your steadiest performers.

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir v Tony Mamaluke (E+)

though his reign may end be about up, Sheik Bashir has been a good champion. Dedicating the matches to his mentor (Iron Sheik) was a nice touch. Hope Marmaluke has a good match and continues to improve, but think Sheik wins again

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Lou Fisto v Amy Dumas (E-)

'THE ROAD TO JARRETT PART 1'

Sting v Marc Mero (D)

one down - rest of JWO to go. What are the vegas odds on Mero still being RUSTY!!!???

can see Sting teaming with Beer Money is some grudge matches against the JWO to set up his next challenger

LUCHA LIBRE FOUR WAY

Psicosis v Super Crazy v Rey Mysterio Jr v Super Dragon (D+)

Rey and Psicosis are both getting over with the fans and turning in good matches. Hoping this "lethal lucha quattro hombre" gets one of the other guys over so that you have another budding TNA star to throw in the mix.

MONSTER'S BALL

Potter v Abyss (D+)

Potter has the inside track here, but think he (you) uses his influence to put Abyss over in this style match. Abyss has been less than consistent in his performances, but a win here could elevate him to the next level.

AJ Styles v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Amazing Red v Homicide (D)

AJ has been in a slump - not sure what that's doing for his momentum goal that Jerry Jarrett set. Daniels comes out looking very strong, but AJ ekes out the win - and possibly a little feud could develop here...even if the next stage has AJ and Daniels teaming against Red and Homicide.

NUMBER ONE CONTENDERSHIP FOR NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

FATAL FOUR WAY

Caribbean Cool v Spanish Announce Team v Briscoe Brothers v Sexual Standouts (D-)

Briscoes sign a new contract, so they could get a short push. I always pull for the Standouts, but they always come up short in these tag events, so watch them win this time

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Slyk Wagner Brown (E)

Monte has been disappointing, and prone to the upset. But think he puts on dominant performance in opener - and maybe gets on track for something.
