TNA's New Beginnings

Recommended Posts

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, July 2004

RAC Center, Catonsville, MD.

AJ Styles is in the ring to kick off Explosion. What? Not Shamrock or Jarrett? Anyway, AJ talks about how he has spent a couple of months in TNA's wilderness and it is about time that he got back on track, starting with defeating Psicosis in five days time at Slam in the Sun. He's on the track back up and he's not stopping until he reaches the top. C

No Messing v Slickers v Trouble Shooters (Jason Cross & Jeremy Lopez)

Three new teams, including one debuting team face off in the opening contest and all things considered, the match wasn't too bad. Everybody put in their share and came out of the match respectably, and the teams are working on their cohesiveness together. The end came in 6:38 when Tony Mamaluke defeated Slyk Wagner Brown by submission with a Sicilian Stretch. D

A music video is shown to promote Super Crazy. C-

Chico & The Man v Ring Wizards

This wasn't as good as the opening match, but thankfully it was fairly short. Once these guys improve as teams and are more over with the fans, matches will most likely be better, and longer. The Ring Wizards continue their unbeaten start together and utilise their new finisher for the first time in 5:37 when Ken Anderson defeated Matt Cappotelli by pinfall with an As If By Magic. D-

Mystery speaks in a muffled voice. It's the first time anybody on TNA broadcasting has ever heard him speak. He tells how it is now Mystery's time and he's going to add some gold to all his women. E+

Beer Money (with Midajah) v Briscoe Brothers

The Briscoes have potential, of that there is no doubt. They are young and they are talented. They could go onto big things. They don't have the best win loss record though and this one is another for the loss column but in this one they can say they were robbed of victory, and could have won themselves had it not been for Midajah showing some flesh to Aaron Hassan when Mark Briscoe had Robert Roode pinned. More chicanery later and in 10:40 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Jay Briscoe by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. D+

Jeff Jarrett and Steve Corino are walking and talking backstage, discussing tactics for tonight's main event when they spot Ken Shamrock. They blindside him, throw him into a wall before the double suplex him through a nearby table. Shamrock is grounded while two of JWO gloat above him. B-

Doug Williams, Frank & Sheik Abdul Bashir v Spanish Announce Team & Mystery

Jarrett's World Order looked very good as a unit. Their opponents however were rather disjointed. Of course, SAT had no issue, but Mystery has been opponents of theirs in the tag team division for a while, and it showed as he looked more akin to a celebate in a brothel than his usual self with a few ladies. This gave JWO a clear advantage and one they made full use of with the end coming in 11:49 when Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. A good match. C-

Sting is talking from backstage about how he is at the second crossroads on his road to Jarrett. Homicide is his roadblock and Sting comments that Homicide is more dangerous when he is sneak attacking than when he is in the ring, as was proved last week, as will be proved tonight and as he will prove at Slam in the Sun. "Come on Jarrett, is this all you have? You may as well face me and get it over and done with." C+

Potter & Rey Mysterio Jr v Abyss (with Harley Race) & 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

Rey put in a really good performance while Abyss and Daniels' timing was all over the place as they failed to work well as a team. Despite this, Abyss overpowers both of his opponents which leaves Daniels with a smirk on his face in the corner in 16:53 when Abyss defeated Rey Mysterio Jr by pinfall with The Black Hole. C-

A music video is shown to promote American Dragon's forthcoming return to the promotion. C+

AJ Styles & Sting v Homicide & Psicosis

Psicosis had a stinker tonight which really put pressure on Homicide. Both AJ and Sting were true to what they said earlier. AJ showed he is back on the upward spiral as he looked strong against both opponents, while Sting showed the difference in class between he and Homicide. His teams wins in 15:10 when AJ Styles defeated Homicide by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C+

Following the match, Psicosis takes the opportunity to attack Styles from behind while he is celebrating his win before hitting a guillotine leg drop. B-

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett & Steve Corino v Ken Shamrock & Spanky

We all have an off night, and tonight's is the first poor performance I can remember Jarrett putting in. The JWO cause was helped significantly though with the beating they gave to Shamrock earlier in the night, and it was evident that he had a back injury significant enough to make Spanky have to do the lion's share of the work in this one. One and a half on two never makes good odds, especially against men of the calibre of Jarrett and Corino who prevail in 19:38 when Steve Corino defeated Spanky by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C

Can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Ken Shamrock (C+ heat)

owner wins the rematch against former champ

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino v Spanky (D+)

Corino may be starting to gain some prestige for this long-tarnished title. I think he'll pass Sabu's record (11 defenses) and then some. I can see him keeping the title as long as he turns in quality matches (thus boosting the belt)

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Doug Williams & Frank v Spanish Announce Team (E+)

should be solid defense for new champs

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir v Mystery (D-)

Bashir has had a good run as champ (second longest behind the middle reign of Styles). Mystery has improved and given some quality matches lately, so it could be interesting to see what he could do with a belt around his waist. Think he'd be more of a high-flyer than Sheik

'THE ROAD TO JARRETT PART TWO'

Sting v Homicide (D)

Sting cannot lose in only the 2nd base of his quest to get to JJ

AJ Styles v Psicosis (D+)

maybe the best match of the night!! AJ wins this time

Rey Mysterio Jr v Abyss (D+)

Abyss squash

Potter v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels (E+)

I can your character putting over Daniels and helping to boost his popularity with a high profile win

Chico & The Man v Beer Money (E+)

former champs get back on winning track

Ring Wizards v Briscoe Brothers (E-)

Briscoes have yet to impress in TNA - Ring Wizards have a couple of nice wins since their debut. Think they continue winning streak for now (and will until they meet someone on the upper echelon)

Slam in the Sun

Sunday, week 3, July 2004

Arena at Gwinnet Center, Duluth, GA.

AJ Styles is in the backstage interview area. He tells everybody that Psicosis is exactly the sort of wrestler he needs to face next on his way back to the top of TNA. Psicosis is well regarded, he has ability in bounds and his style is a good match for Psicosis. When AJ beats him tonight, the sky is the limit. B-

Briscoe Brothers v Ring Wizards

Riing Wizards continue their impressive start as a tag team by beating an established team who have been together since, well, birth. This is Wizards fourth win since debuting together, and their first against an established team in TNA. This must put them well in the tag team division now. The match concluded in 7:51 when Mike Quackenbush defeated Jay Briscoe by pinfall with an As If By Magic. D

Potter v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

This was a really good match, one that deserved to be higher up the card but wasn't because the fans didn't show much desire for it. Potter had control for a fair slice of the match, but Daniels pulls off an upset and sets himself up nicely for his TNA future in 14:26 by pinfall with a Last Rites. C

'Cowboy' James Storm is shown backstage, lighting a cigar with a 100 dollar bill. He remarks that he is thankful for Robert Roode's shrewd business dealings that he can be so flush. B-

Beer Money (with Midajah) v Chico & The Man

The cigar smoking antics of Storm clearly didn't have a good effect as both he and Roode were off their game. Even with their lacklustre performances, they still had far too much for the new team of Cappotelli and Romero, comfortably earning the win'Cowboy' James Storm is shown backstage, lighting a cigar with a 100 dollar bill. D-

Mystery is walking backstage when he spots a mobile phone on a table. With nobody about, he picks it up. He jumps up and down like a child in a sweet shop, before excitedly heading towards the arena. D-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Sheik Abdul Bashir (champion) v Mystery

Whatever it was Mystery saw on the phone, it really seemed to pre occupy him and his thoughts were elsewhere in the match as he didn't put in a good performance. Despite this, Bashir just couldn't put him away. When Mystery was in trouble and looked like being defeated, he became like a man possessed. When he did string together some offence, he surprised the long time X Division champion in 15:53 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery wins the TNA X Division title. C

Having picked up the victory, Mystery celebrates in the ring. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Doug Williams & Frank (champions) v Spanish Announce Team

A really good match and a significant improvement on recent tag team championship matches. Both teams looked dangerous and more than capable of earning the victory. Frank in particular looked good. He was the difference maker. He managed to prevent Joel making the hot tag to Jose. He worked Joel back towards the JWO corner where he tagged in Doug. After a picture perfect double suplex, Doug got the win for the champions in 12:53 when Doug Williams defeated Joel Maximo by pinfall with a Chaos Theory. Doug & Frank make defence number 2 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. If the matches so far are anything to go by, the main attractions are going to be awesome. C

Ken Shamrock is in the back, telling Jeff Jarrett how he is going to rip him apart tonight and take back the NWA TNA Championship. He is brief, to the point and looks ready. B-

The camera cuts backstage where we find Abyss warming up by punching lockers and the wall. Rey had better watch out! C

Abyss v Rey Mysterio Jr

Ouch, this was painful at times as on a few occasions in the match Abyss simply overpowered Rey with ease. Rey did get on a huge roll though, nailing the big man with a missile drop kick, drop toe holding him into the ropes when the big man got back up and charged at him and nailed him with the 619. He then went for the springboard hurracanrana... big mistake. Abyss caught him as if somebody had thrown a teddy bear at him and nailed a big Black Hole Slam for the win in 7:07. C-

Jeff Jarrett is in his private JWO locker room. He isn't worried about Shamrock. Shamrock knows it is his last chance and he's not the sort to handle pressure well, as he has a tendancy to snap. "Make the most of this chance Shamrock, because it will be a long, long time before you get another." C+

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Spanky

A really good match similar to their one at Bound For Glory 3. Both men showed off their talents well and gave each other everything they had. Spanky came close to winning the title on a few occasions, and Corino also. Spanky at one point kicked out on the stroke of three after an Old School Expulsion. Corino hits another one a little while later and wins a hard fought title defence in 16:53 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Steve Corino makes defence number 10 of his TNA National title. C+

'The Road to Jarrett Part Two'

Sting v Homicide

Youth had no match for experience here, despite this being far from Sting's best match. Homicide did have Sting set up for the Gringo Killer, but Sting used his strength and size advantage to power it into a Scorpion Deathdrop. That was the beginning of the end for Homicide as in 11:05 Sting wins by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C-

A short video is shown to promote Psicosis. C+

A short video is shown to promote AJ Styles. B

AJ Styles v Psicosis

This was a good match that could have been even better had the match had a proper flow to it. AJ is still young and will learn, but Psicosis is experienced now and should be able to handle the psychology of wrestling better. The match spent almost as much time in the air as on the mat, as you would probably expect in a match between to skilled high flyers. Both men hit all of their signature moves, but it was AJ who continued on his rise to the top as he defeated Psicosis in 19:44 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C

A short video is shown to promote Ken Shamrock. C+

A short video is shown to promote 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett. B-

As we wait for the match between 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett and Ken Shamrock to commence, Don West and Tenay run us through the Tale Of The Tape. E+

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

KEN SHAMROCK'S LAST CHANCE

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Ken Shamrock

Good, but could and perhaps should have been very good. Nonetheless, the TNA fans have had their money's worth tonight. Shamrock was looking solid in this match and was on course to win the title back until he became frustrated with Jarrett's stubborn refusal to be defeated. Shamrock snapped like Jarrett had predicted and as a result lost his focus on the task at hand. Shamrock started taking wild swings at Jarrett, tried to hit big shots and power moves which isn't normally his game. Jarrett took advantage and after some sustained offence, he hit The Stroke. Rather than go for a pin, he made sure by hitting not one, but two more Strokes, earning him the win in 27:10. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 2 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C+

Following the match, Jarrett picks up Shamrock who is clearly not in a good way. He hits a couple of stiff shots before setting Shamrock for yet another Stroke. AJ Styles runs in however, Jarrett lets Shamrock go and Jarrett and Styles stare each other down as Slam in the Sun 2004 comes to an end. C+

wow - I don't even do that good predicting my own matches in Mid-South. :D

X Division isn't about weight limits...it's about NO LIMITS.

with that in mind, can I propose a battle royal with some (all) of the lucha stars on the roster, Daniels, Spanky, Sheik, and some of the other assorted new guys to help get them some experience...with the winner being (and if I can't have the battle royal, my choice for first match): Super Crazy. **thoughts being if Seaman Stains maybe comes to ring with or helps Mystery, then some other Lucha stars like Psicocis and/or Mysterio might want to aid Crazy and set up the next round of defenses (and even some grudge tag matches). This way, Mystery starts out with a good match to establish him, build his confidence, and build up to the bigger money matches (can't wait for MYSTERY VS MYSTERIO down the road)

Congrats to Mystery for the title win! Solid match © and even the celebration was received well by the fans. It's too bad the main eventers didn't step up their game and deliver some B matches at the end

love seeing this large triple digit profits for your shows!!

Ah, I might have misunderstood you a little then. So you would like a battle royal, with the winner (Super Crazy) facing Mystery later in the night? Yeah, I like that.

exactly. Thought the X-Royale might be a fun way to stir things up.

incidently - the old southern twist on the battle royal was a "Royale" in which the order of elimination set up the rest of the matches for the card (or next card might work better for our purposes). Couple variations where the last 4 would pair up for a tag team match (made for interesting tag teams) or the winner would get a title match.

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, July 2004

Manuel A. Pérez Arena, San Juan, Puerto Rico

Jeff Jarrett walks to the ring to a chorus of boos. He tells the fans in attendance that he is glad to be in Puerto Rico (cheap pop) for one reason. To make money. To fleece the Puerto Ricans for every last cent they have. (loud boos). He then goes on to say he will be at Night of Champions for two reasons. One, to make more money and two, to beat the snot nosed punk kid AJ Styles and show him who is the man in TNA. This prompts AJ to come out and he says that Puerto Rico is a wonderful place (loud cheers) and this "snot nosed punk kid" is on his way back to the top. He will show Jarrett that his previous title reign was no fluke. Jarrett says he's glad he thinks that way, he's got a practice match lined up for AJ, right here, right now... B

AJ Styles v Sheik Abdul Bashir

AJ is still in his street clothes as the ex X Division Champion comes out to the ring with a look of intent. He and Jarrett embrace on his way. This was a good match despite a lack of psychology on show and the two not appearing to click. AJ's renewed upward curve continues here as he beats Bashir with a purpose, looking as though with every move he hits he is pretending it is Jarrett. Bashir, despite having the second longest reign as X Division Champion behind AJ just can't match up with him and AJ wins in 7:38 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Melina Perez

The women are about as over as a midget trying to win the Olympic high jump final. Given their low ratings, this was one of the better women's matches, where Amy was much the strong and made a comfortable title defence in 5:58 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 2 of her TNA Ladies title. E

Psicosis v Tony Mamaluke

Not one of the better X Division matches which was a little disappointing. Mamaluke's recent good form seems to have abandoned him as the third straight match tonight was somewhat onesided, Psicosis getting the better in 8:33 by pinfall with a Guillotine Leg Drop. D+

Carlito comes down in front of his home fans and says how he and Colt Cabana will become the number one contenders for the Tag Team Championship and that it was about time they won the title back. Very surprisingly, this segment went down woefully. Carlito was in his home region and well over. E+

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Amazing Red

A good match and a little preview of the X Division battle royal at Night of Champions, courtesy of TNA's guest booker, Olympia. Unlike the previous matches tonight, this was very open, while some of the crowd had strained necks trying to keep up with the action. Some field goal kicks don't go as high as these two. Daniels emerged triumphant and Red came out of the match with credit too. It finished in 10:38 by pinfall with a Last Rites. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Frankie Kazarian

One of the worst X Division Championship matches in it's history, which is a great disappointment, especially as it is Mystery's first defence. He won the match easy enough, it just wasn't entertaining. At all. Watching cricket would have been as entertaining. Relief came in 8:35 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 1 of his TNA X Division title. D-

Harley Race leads Abyss into the ring. He challenges any local to take on Abyss in the ring, if the local wins, he will be given $10,000. There are very few volunteers... would you fight Abyss? Harley Race eventually picks out a young man who is fairly well put together, but looks like he is probably still in college. While Race asks if he fancies $10,000, Abyss towers overhim. The man loses the ability to speak before Abyss pummels him before laying him out with a Black Hole Slam. Abyss made this segment. C-

Beer Money (with Midajah) v Cocky Connection (with So Cal Val)

Devine and Rave may as well stayed on the mainland. Beer Money were completely dominant in a match which can be described as a mediocre squash. At best. It only took 3:25 when Robert Roode defeated Johnny Devine by pinfall with a DUI. D-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Doug Williams & Frank (champions) v Spank Wang

Not a bad match, but not a good one either. It was standard fare tag team action with stuff seen thousands of times and nothing that particularly stood out. Spanky is in good form at the moment, but Jimmy Yang hasn't seen a lot of ring time of late and that was the deciding factor as the champs retained in 10:48 when Frank defeated Jimmy Yang by pinfall. Doug & Frank make defence number 3 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Sting is in the bowels of the building. He talks about what has been dubbed 'The Road to Jarrett'... "What is it now Jeff, two down and four to go? I'm not going to rest Jarrett until I get to you and make TNA a much better place." B-

American Dragon v Super Dragon

American Dragon returns to TNA and a good reception but oh God... this match was horrible! Facing a real dragon would have been more fun. American Dragon wins in 13:53 by pinfall with a Dragon Suplex. Very disappointing as American Dragon put on some good matches in his first sting in TNA. E+

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Rocky Romero

It's not a good end to TNA's first trip to Puerto Rico. After the poor Dragon match, the main event is rather average. Corino retains in 16:08 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion and makes defence number 11 of his TNA National title but this is an Explosion to forget. D

Explosion

Tuesday, week 1, August 2004

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, CA.

Ken Shamrock walks to the ring to cheers. He accuses Jeff Jarrett of playing favourites, as since he lost to Jarrett at Slam in the Sun, Jarrett has frozen him out of TNA. He wasn't on the show last week, and he wasn't scheduled to be on the show this week. Jeff Jarrett enters the arena to boos, and tells Shamrock that he has had his chance, he has had his day in the sun. He lost his rematch and he's not getting another shot while Jarrett is champion. However, if Shamrock wants action so bad, he can have some tonight... against Sheik Abdul Bashir. Last week AJ, this week Shamrock and Sting at Night of Champions, has Bashir pissed Jarrett off or something? C

Ring Wizards v Trouble Shooters

Mike Tenay and Don West discuss their excitement about tonight's super Explosion, where every TNA title is defended. In the opening bout, Ring Wizards continue their impressive start as a team together with another solid victory, and the time is surely coming for them to step up a level. The match finishes in 6:09 when Mike Quackenbush defeated Jeremy Lopez by pinfall with an As If By Magic. D

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Gail Kim

TNA has some solid women wrestlers, they just can't put on matches that grabs the fans' attention. This is another concession stand goer as in 7:34 Dumas wins by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 3 of her TNA Ladies title. E

Psicosis is shown breaking into the locker of Frank, and stealing a bag that was inside, first checking that something specific was inside. D-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Slyk Wagner Brown

Mystery's two defences so far have been rather lacklustre, although he hasn't yet faced an opponent of real quality. He looked strong in this one, out wrestling Slyk through the majority of the match which ended in 8:39 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 2 of his TNA X Division title. D

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Doug Williams & Frank (champions) v Caribbean Cool

A good tag team match, certainly one of the better tag title matches for a while. Frank in particular put on a good show. The match had good flow, plenty of quick tags and a good few saves from partners on both sides. Just when Doug and Frank looked like they would successfully defend, Carlito made the hot tag to Colt and Caribbean Cool mounted a serious comeback which ended in 12:43 when Colt Cabana defeated Doug Williams by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. Caribbean Cool win the NWA TNA Tag Team titles for a third time. C-

A music video is shown to promote Keiji Sakoda. C

American Dragon v Marc Mero

Dragon's second match back was significantly better than his first as he was all over Marc Mero and won easily in 7:10 by submission with an Arms Across America. Jeff Jarrett walks out afterwards, and tells Dragon that if he really thinks he is that good, he can face off against The Ring King next week. Dragon is beside himself. D+

Steve Corino is on a basketball court, and tells the camera that he is not just super at wrestling and baseball as seen a couple of weeks ago. He then nets a long three point shot. C

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Rey Mysterio Jr

A good match that looks very awkward? Good job it is good when the two are due to meet again at Night of Champions. Corino often had Rey in a compromising position, but a mixture of Rey's resilience and superior speed got him out of trouble. Rey then hits the West Coast Pop and 619, but just as the referee was about to make the count, the time limit expired and the match was declared a draw. C

Spanky is shown backstage walking around, looking very unhappy. He speaks of his disappointment in not capturing the National Championship on not one, but two occasions in recent weeks. C

Ken Shamrock v Sheik Abdul Bashir

Boy did Shamrock look intense tonight. It looked like it would get him a quick victory but Bashir managed to hang in there, and as the match wore on he began to make his own impression on Shamrock and almost surprise him a couple of times. Shamrock's class, experience and aggression saw him prevail in 13:15 by submission with an Ankle Lock. C

Sting is backstage and asks Bashir via the camera if he has annoyed Jeff Jarrett. Last week he faced AJ, he has just faced Shamrock and at Night of Champions he is step three on Sting's 'Road to Jarrett'. He tells Bashir that if he can't beat AJ or Shamrock, then he can't beat Sting, as Sting considers them his equals. D-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Psicosis

This is Psicosis third, fourth World Championship match? Every time he has come close to winning, and this night is no different. A good match which saw both men utilise their primary arsenal came to a conclusion when Psicosis had Jarrett ready to be hit with a guillotine leg drop. Frank came sprinting from the back though, pushed Psicosis off and this led to Jarrett hitting the stroke and getting the victory in 20:50. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 3 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C

Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, August 2004

UIC Pavillion, Chicago, IL.

AJ Styles comes out and demoans Jarrett's assessment of him that he is a "snot nosed punk kid. Fact number one Jarrett... I am the longest reigning X Division Champion. Fact number two Jarrett... I am the longest NWA TNA World Champion. Longer than you Jarrett. Who is the snot nosed punk kid?"

Jarrett's music plays and out he comes looking stern. He tells AJ that he's not fit to lace Double J's boots. He doesn't like AJ's attitude, and has decided that since every championship will again be on the line tonight and that AJ isn't involved, he will see action tonight... against Sting. AJ looks irate as Jarrett has a big smirk on his face as he leaves. C+

Chico & The Man v Slickers

Two emerging teams face off in the opening bout and it shows as it holds little in entertainment value. Still, they both have the potential to improve. Chico & The Man earn their first win in 4:58 when Rocky Romero defeated Slyk Wagner Brown by pinfall with a High Speed. D

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Sara Del Ray

The two show good chemistry which helped this elevate to one of the better ladies matches in TNA. Amy defends in 6:01 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 4 of her TNA Ladies title. E+

Homicide is backstage and tells everyone in his thick accent that Sakoda has no chance tonight against him and his Gringo Killer. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Caribbean Cool (champions) v Briscoe Brothers

The new champions make their first defence at the earliest opportunity. The match wasn't as good as it could and probably should have been thanks to poor performances from Carlito and Mark Briscoe. The champs weren't really threatened and keep their belts in 8:57 when Colt Cabana defeated Jay Briscoe by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. Caribbean Cool make defence number 1 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D

A music video is shown to promote Psicosis. C

Homicide v Keiji Sakoda

Homicide did not live up to his boast earlier as Sakoda looked good and builds some vital momentum going into his match with Abyss at Night of Champions. Homicide did at times look like he could go on to win the match, but Sakoda soaked up his offence and prevailed in 12:34 by pinfall with a Roaring Elbow. A good match. C+

A montage of clips is shown, which are of Ken Shamrock training himself for an upcoming MMA fight and describes how he is creating history by becoming the first active wrestling to compete in a MMA match. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Frank

For whatever reason, Mystery has dropped off a little since winning the X Division Championship. This time the calibre of opponent cannot be blamed, with Frank being an ex Tag Team Champion. The match was fairly even, Mystery perhaps shading it a little and he retained his belt in 9:30 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 3 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Abyss and Harley Race come to the ring. Like in Puerto Rico, Harley Race offers anybody in the crowd $10,000 if they can take down Abyss. One particular man who is well built seems very keen, so Race brings him out. Abyss simply brutalises him and nails him with a Black Hole Slam. C-

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown

Corino came into the match very cocky and confident. Brown quickly took him down a peg or two with his power game. He was unlucky on the six minute mark when he hit The Pounce, only for Corino to roll under the ropes and out of the ring with the impact. This allowed Corino to get a needed breather and he mounted a solid comeback using a mix of old school technical moves and old school shorthanded tactics. He wins in 10:51 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion, but had to work for it. Steve Corino makes defence number 13 of his TNA National title. C+

Sting is shown backstage, searching for Jeff Jarrett, clearly not happy with having to face AJ Styles shortly. C

AJ Styles v Sting

This was a very good match, one of TNA's best in which both men showed off their full arsenal, had crowd on tenterhooks throughout and both escaped out of their opponent's finisher. The end came when Jeff Jarrett appeared, carrying not one but two guitars. He first smashed one over AJ Styles' head, then followed up on Sting. Mark Johnson ruled the match a no contest in 20:25. Jarrett gets a mic and gloats over the two fallen fan favourites, telling them he is 'The Ring King' and neither are anywhere near his level. He then tells American Dragon to "drag his sorry masked ass out here so he can beat the crap out of him too". B

Backstage, American Dragon is seen walking to the ring area. C-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v American Dragon

Dragon has been impressive since returning to TNA a couple of weeks ago, and gives Jarrett a good fight and cause for concern. Jarrett clearly isn't in the mood for playing games tonight and puts in a workmanlike performance. He stops Dragon's impressive comeback in TNA in 18:11 by pinfall with The Stroke. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 4 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C
