TNA's New Beginnings

Regal Rumble 2004

Sunday, week 3, September 2004

Kiefer Lakefront Arena, New Orleans, LA.

AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn are backstage, arguing among each other over who is going to prevail tonight in the Regal Rumble. The two start getting physical, only for Super Crazy to wonder round the corner, see what is going on and join in the brawl. Then Ken Shamrock appears and joins the meleé and we have a mini rumble going on to start the show. B-

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Lou Fisto

Standard TNA ladies match, which is a shame as I had hopes for the division some time ago but it has just never happens. Dumas wins in 9:45 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 6 of her TNA Ladies title. E+

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett is seen talking to Beer Money backstage. Rather than being concerned about his match with Abyss later tonight, he is more concerned with preventing Ken Shamrock from winning the Regal Rumble. He offers Beer Money cash to ensure that Shamrock doesn't win. They gladly accept. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Caribbean Cool (champions) v Spanish Announce Team

An OK match, nothing special. SAT look good and threaten, but it's the more experienced pair and the current champions who defend their belts in 16:14 when Carlito defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. Caribbean Cool make defence number 5 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. D+

Ron Killings is shown arriving backstage, much to the surprise of the Mike Tenay and Don West who say he must be in the Regal Rumble tonight. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Sheik Adbul Bashir

Bashir has finally received his rematch and it's a good match, a good mixture of mat based wrestling and high flying moves. Both men come close on numerous occasions but Mystery pulls it out in 17:43 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 7 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Abyss and Harley Race are on camera, where Race questions Jeff Jarrett's wisdom, he appears more concerned about Ken Shamrock than his monster, Abyss, who if Jarrett is not careful, will rip him apart tonight and take his title. C

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Seaman Stains

Corino is strong in a match that won't be remembered for long. It wasn't bad, it's just there wasn't anything good about it either. Corino retains in 13:41 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. Steve Corino makes defence number 16 of his TNA National title. D

Sting talks in the ring, and tells Jeff Jarrett he is not in the mood to mess around. He is well on his path to getting Jarrett to teach him a lesson and show him the way TNA should move in the future. He has Frank next, and he will use him to show Jarrett he means business. C+

'The Road to Jarrett Part Four'

Sting v Frank

Sting is true to his word and dominates Frank, winning easily in 4:08 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C+

As we wait for the match between 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett and Abyss to commence, Tenay and Don West run us through the Tale Of The Tape. C

Abyss makes his way out to the ring, accompanied by Harley Race. C+

Jeff Jarrett then makes his way out to the ring. B-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Abyss (with Harley Race)

Not the best World Championship match we've had in TNA by a long way, but it was certainly watchable. Jarrett did at times struggle with Abyss' size and power, coupled with Race's guidance, but ultimately he called upon his years of top level experience, his cunning and his bag of tricks to emerge the victor in 16:47 by pinfall after using his guitar while Race was being reprimanded by Mark Johnson. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 7 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C-

Regal Rumble

The ring announcer goes through the rules and announces that shortly numbers one and two will shortly enter the ring. Cameras go backstage to pick up Scott Steiner walking to the ring as the crowd go nuts! C

25. KEN SHAMROCK

Beer Money immediately team up on Shamrock, who overcomes them and eliminates them both.

Rocky Romero and Trent Acid eliminate each other.

Potter, AJ and Shamrock are left in the ring with Teddy Hart, who rolls under the bottom rope as the next wrestler enters.

26. HOMICIDE

Hart reenters as he and Homicide stand up to the other three until Shamrock just starts beating everyone near him.

27. JUVENTUD GUERRERA

28. RON KILLINGS

Killings and Guerrera immediately go at each other.

29. JERRY LYNN

Potter eliminated by Jerry Lynn.

30. SPANKY

Homicide eliminated by Ken Shamrock.

Spanky eliminated by Ken Shamrock.

Ron Killings eliminated by Jerry Lynn.

Juventud Guerrera eliminated by AJ Styles.

AJ, Shamrock, Lynn and Hart all haul themselves up in a corner, visibly tired, measure each other up and start a four way brawl akin to the one that started the show.

AJ Styles eliminated by Jerry Lynn and Teddy Hart. Shamrock now on his own so to speak.

Teddy Hart eliminated by a Jerry Lynn double cross.

Ken Shamrock eliminates Jerry Lynn to win the Regal Rumble in 64:55. C+

Having picked up the victory, Ken Shamrock celebrates in the ring. C+

After the match, with the ring cleared, 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett enters the ring and he and Ken Shamrock stare each other down. Neither breaks the stare, and the crowd rumble in anticipation, although Shamrock isn't supposed to get another title match while Jarrett is champion... B-

excellent record-setting event!!! Wonder what the numbers would be if you ran a show that wasnt' on the same day as the WWE PPV.

Teddy Hart made a big splash for sure.

The Rumble has a way of setting up so many future stories and matches - and I'm sure you have a few in mind. Seeing AJ eliminate both of the Ring Wizards would seem to set up a good feud with them (maybe AJ can find a partner after they give him a doubleteam beat down next week). Ditto for Shamrock and Beer Money (who had a strange alliance with Terry Hart). Could be interesting to see Hart join forces with petey williams to go against Scott Stiener and Shamrock (while he awaits his match with Jarrett).

Mystery continues to improve and deliver a solid match for you. Sad to see Seaman Stains did not hold his end of the bargain against Steve Corino. We're used to seeing MUCH better quality matches from those two.

<p><strong>Explosion</strong></p><p>

Tuesday, week 4, September 2004</p><p>

Manuel A. Pérez Arena, San Juan, Puerto Rico</p><p> </p><p>

Jeff Jarrett is in the ring and he informs Ken Shamrock about an agreement they had, where Shamrock will not receive another shot at Jarrett while he is champion. Jarrett tells the crowd in attendance and watching on pay per view that this agreement is binding and that despite winning the Regal Rumble this past Sunday, Shamrock does not get a championship match. Jarrett then announces that due to this legal issue, the championship match at Halloween Havoc will instead go to the runner up in the Regal Rumble, Jerry Lynn.</p><p>

Lynn's music hits and out he walks, Jarrett shakes his hand and tells him he can't think of a more deserving challenger for his title. Lynn responds by telling Jarrett that he can't think of a more deserving champion and he is honoured to have his shot at winning the gold.</p><p>

Ken Shamrock's music then hits and he storms out, saying that Jarrett and Lynn make him want to throw up. Previous agreement or not, he has won the right for another match against Jarrett. Jarrett is about to explode when Lynn intervenes and whispers something in Jarrett's ear. Jarrett soon calms down and tells Shamrock "you've got it... a three way with Jerry Lynn." Shamrock looks pissed as Jarrett and Lynn converse. <strong>B</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jimmy Yang v Petey Williams</strong></p><p>

Poor match that went on for too long and had very little in the way of chemistry. Petey Williams defeated Jimmy Yang in 8:42 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage and everybody in the arena was glad when it finished. <strong>E</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Doug Williams v Ron Killings</strong></p><p>

A far better match as ever reliable Williams meets the exciting young Killings. Williams' European style of wrestling works well for a lot of the match as he slowly grinds away at Killings, but Ron mounts a fast paced comeback which proves to be successful, emerging victorious in 11:03 by pinfall with a Truth Or Consequences. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Carlito is in the ring, talking up his home region and how glad he is to be back home. Out from the back come Harley Race and Abyss, with Race telling Carlito that he has no time for all this sentiment, he has a monster to let loose. If Carlito thinks he is so big in this "crummy part of the world" then why doesn't he prove it against Abyss tonight. Carlito accepts, spits apple in the face of Race but is met with a Shock Treatment for his trouble. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rocky Romero v Teddy Hart</strong></p><p>

The much awaited singles debut of arguably the wrestler with the most potential in TNA proved to be a little disappointing, not what was hoped. Sure, he was Teddy was too strong for the young Romero, but I know, as does Teddy, that he can produced better. Nonetheless, he won comfortably enough in 9:42 by pinfall with a Hart Attack. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

A music video is shown to promote Mystery's X Division Championship reign. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP</strong></p><p><strong>

Steve Corino (champion) v Seaman Stains</strong></p><p>

A rematch from Regal Rumble, and what was lacklustre at Regal Rumble sadly proved to be lacklustre again here. Corino has been a solid champion, of that there is no doubt, however with two consecutive chances for Stains to step up a level and show what he can do, on both occasions he has been found wanting, and one has to wonder where he goes from here. Corino defends easily in 7:51 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. Steve Corino makes defence number 17 of his TNA National title. <strong>D</strong></p><p>

Scott Steiner then appears on the video screen, and tells everybody that the Big Bad Booty Daddy has arrived in TNA and Steve Corino is his first target. Steiner is here to win titles and to show the ladies a real man. <strong>B-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>AJ Styles v Ken Anderson</strong></p><p>

A match stemming from the Regal Rumble, where AJ eliminated both the Ring Wizards. Anderson is first to have a go at AJ, and he steps up in class well, putting in a spirited and worthy performance. AJ is just too good however, and stays one step ahead of Anderson for the majority of the match, beating him again in 10:03 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. <strong>C-</strong></p><p>

AJ then gets a mic and tells TNA's fans that he is disappointed he did not win the Regal Rumble, but he, like he does every single night, gave his all and that it took two men to eliminate him. <strong>B</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Abyss (with Harley Race) v Carlito</strong></p><p>

Abyss is too big and too strong for Carlito. Despite the home fans' backing, Carlito can't get into the match. But he hangs on in there, and when Abyss throws him to the ropes looking for the Black Hole Slam, Carlito sidesteps him and in 16:13 wins by pinfall with a fast roll up. An upset win for the homeside! <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Sting appears backstage with a warning for Jeff Jarrett. He tells Jarrett that it is four down and two to go before Jarrett has his date with destiny. Who's left Sting asks... Steve Corino and first Doug Williams. The opponents are getting harder and the matches will be tougher, but Sting promises Jeff Jarrett that he has his mind on the goal and nothing in his path with stop him. <strong>B</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Non Title Match</strong></p><p><strong>

Jerry Lynn v Mystery</strong></p><p>

A mildly unusual main event, and a match that didn't display a lot of chemistry between the wrestlers, but was entertaining and long nonetheless. Mystery put up a good show and came close to a surprise win on a few occasions, but the crafty old veteran that is Jerry Lynn proved he is back to his TNA best and came up with the goods in 24:43 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. <strong>C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<p><strong>TNA News</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Rumours are circling that Teddy Hart got into an altercation with a fan following the last episode of Explosion, though neither TNA nor Hart have confirmed or denied this.</p><p> </p><p>

Due to the trip to Puerto Rico, the results of the latest rounds of drug testing are a little later than normal. Ken Shamrock, Jay Briscoe and Super Crazy have all returned clean tests.</p><p> </p><p>

Super Crazy suffered a minor injury working in another promotion, but it should not affect his TNA work.</p><p> </p><p>

TNA made a record profit of $161,468 in September thanks largely to record pay per view revenue.</p>

<p>another outstanding show. Mystery keeps surprising to the upside lately - both a quality match AND video. Steiner running his mouth about being a lady's man might get him in some trouble from Mystery who has been the promotion's resident kiss stealer for some time. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Stains and Corino just don't click - I'm sure they'll both bounce back against other opponents.</p><p> </p><p>

AJ and Kennedy was also good, you should be able to get some good mileage with that storyline to prepare AJ for another title run (it's a credit when he can stay interesting without a title belt!). </p><p>

Petey stunk it up in his singles debut, but should improve on the undercard (and jobber to the stars) until fans warm up to his ability....ditto for Teddy Hart who I think will make the uppercard much quicker (maybe Teddy can take Petey under his wing and help him along the way). At least Teddy may finally give you the lockerroom trouble-maker you've been looking for.</p><p> </p><p>

tough break with the injuries too! Nice big profit. You've turned things around this year with a couple months still to go. Should close it out with a bang</p>

Mystery and Steiner is an idea. I also have a couple of potential fueds lined up for Daniels too, based on previous quality matches with good chemistry.</p>

<p><strong>Explosion</strong></p><p>

Tuesday, week 1, October 2004</p><p>

Grand Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA.</p><p> </p><p>

Jeff Jarrett and Jerry Lynn are in the ring, and they call out Ken Shamrock, telling him they have a surprise for him for their Halloween Havoc main event match. Shamrock comes out, looking none too pleased and asks what the two are up to. Jarrett tells Shamrock that in the interest of fairness, he has added a fourth man to the match so it's not Jarrett and Lynn against Shamrock. Shamrock eyes up Jarrett suspiciously when Teddy Hart enters the ring and jumps Shamrock from behind. Lynn joins in on the beating while Jarrett gets in his face and tells him that the fourth man is Teddy Hart and that Shamrock will never take the title from him. <strong>B-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Spanish Announce Team v Spank Wang</strong></p><p>

A match that was to and fro more times than somebody hitting a ball against a ball repeatedly. It wasn't until the very end of the match that it looked like who the winner would be. Despite all the back and forth action and suspense, the match was still average, with SAT emerging with the win in 11:30 when Joel Maximo defeated Jimmy Yang by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Scott Steiner is backstage, and cuts a promo saying that he has come to TNA for two reasons. One is to show all the women who the Big Bad Booty Daddy is and the second is to win titles. Didn't he do this last week? Anyway, at Halloween Havoc he wants Steve Corino, where he will win his National Championship and start on his road to TNA stardom. <strong>C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Amazing Red v Teddy Hart</strong></p><p>

A much better outing from Hart, helped by Red's amazing speed and agility. It's a good match, and one that Hart has the better of for the majority, and he's showing promise of big things in his future... if he can control himself... Hart is the winner in 8:56 by pinfall with a Hart Attack. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Briscoe Brothers v Doug & Frank</strong></p><p>

The Briscoes are finally emerging as a team to contend with, as yet again they pull off another win out of nothing, and again over a team that are former champions, winning this one in 9:31 when Mark Briscoe defeated Frank by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Harley Race appears with Abyss, telling TNA that his monster is ready to feed on more meat, and he has heard that Ron Killings has a particular nice tender taste to him, with him being new and raw. Race tells Killings to face Abyss and Halloween Havoc and allow Abyss to feast. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>AJ Styles v Mike Quackenbush (with Ken Anderson)</strong></p><p>

AJ is a few steps ahead of Quackenbush, and defeats the other half of the Ring Wizards whom he eliminated at Regal Rumble in 9:02 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. Anderson and Quackenbush double team AJ after the match though and leave him lying on the mat. <strong>C-</strong></p><p>

After a commercial break, the cameras are backstage where Spanky is seen talking to AJ Styles. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jerry Lynn v Suicide</strong></p><p>

Another good match as Lynn continues his fine form since returning to TNA, beating Suicide with some ease in 13:35 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

A music video is shown to promote Suicide. It sucked, probably because he just lost! <strong>E+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Homicide v Ken Shamrock</strong></p><p>

Shamrock is clearly distracted in this match, seemingly expecting at any moment to have Lynn, Hart or Jarrett run out. Possibly surprisingly, none of the three do, but his lack of full focus lets Homicide score some near falls. Shamrock pulls through though ultimately in 12:56 by submission with an Ankle Lock. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Steve Corino has found Scott Steiner backstage, and smashes him from behind with his National Championship belt, before doing the same in his face. Steiner is left bleeding while Corino stands over him and tells him that he said he wanted his title? Well, now he's had it! <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP</strong></p><p><strong>

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Carlito</strong></p><p>

One half of the tag team champions puts up a mighty effort here and has Jarrett worried for a while, especially when his partner Colt Cabana ran in and attacked Jarrett after Jarrett had been using some dirty tricks. Carlito then looked to have the title won, only for Corino to run in while Garry Morere was distracted with Cabana, and hit the Old School Expulsion, which lead to Jarrett earning the fall in 24:14 by pinfall with The Stroke. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 8 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. <strong>B-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

DARK MATCH

Petey Williams defeated Matt Cappotelli in 7:54 by pinfall with a Canadian Destroyer. D-

Championship Explosion

Tuesday, week 2, October 2004

Genesis Convention Center, Gary, IN.

Jeff Jarrett are seen conversing backstage at the arena entrance. Ken Shamrock appears in front of them, brandishing a crowbar. Lynn and Jarrett diss Shamrock but appear wary. Shamrock launches an attack, getting the better of Jarrett and Lynn initially before the numbers prove too much and it is Shamrock who is left laying on the concrete as Jarrett and Lynn enter the arena. C+

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Melina Perez

Mike Tenay and Don West welcome everybody to a special Championship edition of Explosion where all championships will be defended. Tenay also announces that Ron Killings was supposed to have a World Championship match tonight but he has been struck down with the flu so Potter stands in as a last minute replacement.

The ladies start us off and put on their usual tepid match in the eye of the TNA fans as Amy prevails in 6:34 when Melina Perez was disqualified as Sara Del Ray ran in and attacked Amy Dumas. Amy Dumas makes defence number 7 of her TNA Ladies title. E

Mystery and Juventud Guerrera share intense looks as they sign a contract for their X Division Championship match at Halloween Havoc. I wonder what the contract states relating to Mystery's defence against Homicide later tonight? The signing goes off peacefully. C+

Slyk Wagner Brown v Trent Acid

Trent Acid defeated Slyk Wagner Brown in 8:48 by pinfall in a match that was a little disappointing. Two promising wrestlers failed to show an awful lot in this one. D+

Spanish Announce Team are shown sitting in the crowd watching the show ahead of the Tag Team Championship match. E+

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Caribbean Cool (champions) v Doug Williams & Sheik Abdul Bashir

Jarrett's World Order don't seem to be as active as they have in the past, but Doug has a new JWO partner with Bashir replacing Frank as he tries to regain the tag titles. They teamed well considering it was their first time as a pairing, but a very good performance from Colt Cabana carried the champions to a successful defence in 14:04 when Colt Cabana defeated Doug Williams by pinfall with a Coolness Personified. Caribbean Cool make defence number 6 of their NWA TNA Tag Team titles. C-

Homicide is in the ring, along with Super Crazy. Homicide asks Crazy if he is willing to form an alliance with he and Suicide in the six way X Division match at Halloween Havoc, as having three men on the same side in the match greatly increases their chances of winning. Crazy appears receptive to the idea and the two shake hands. C

Amazing Red v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels

Two others from the X Division six way and two exciting wrestlers, however they were disappointing and failed to deliver the match that everybody hoped as it was rather flat. Daniels picks up the win in 14:34 by pinfall with a Last Rites. D+

A music video is shown to promote AJ Styles, highlighting his recent triumphs over The Ring Wizards. B-

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Corino (champion) v Rocky Romero

This match was very awkward, the two just could not get any flow to it at all. Corino had most of it as Romero looked every inch the young wrestler against the seasoned champion. Corino wins easily in 8:42 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. Steve Corino makes defence number 18 of his TNA National title. D-

American Dragon is in the ring about to discuss his chances for the six way X Division match and the apparent alliance between Homicide, Suicide and Super Crazy. However, he has barely got started when Abyss' music hits, Harley Race leads out the big man, saying how annoyed he is that Ron Killings has stayed at home with flu so Abyss will just have to decimate somebody else instead... and Abyss decimates American Dragon. C-

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Homicide

Despite the match lacking in drama and flow, it was still entertaining, in fact the best of what has been a mildly disappointing night of action so far. Mystery had the upperhand and capitalised in 15:13 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 8 of his TNA X Division title. Still, Homicide still has the six way... C

Scott Steiner is walking backstage when Steve Corino comes out of hiding and attacks. Steiner is bungled into a waiting car, Corino jumps in the passenger seat and the car then speeds off. C

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Potter

Two ultra reliables put on a solid technical display once again, with hold, counter hold and plenty of submission attempts. This is old school wrestling, while not at it's finest, it is still a pleasure to watch. Frank appears at ringside to distract the referee and Jarrett uses this to his full advantage, winning in 20:46 by pinfall after using his guitar to smash over Potter's head. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 9 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. B-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett v Ken Shamrock v Jerry Lynn v Teddy Hart (B- heat)

I've gone back and forth on this one - I going with the upset swerve maybe Shamrock would pin Lynn or Hart to steal the title so to speak, then possibly lose it back to Jarrett when they meet one on one (beating Lynn and Hart in defenses first). Of course Jeff could just hold the belt until his showdown with Sting. Swapping with Shamrock buys some time there - and can see Jarrett throwing a few more roadblocks in front of Sting to delay their eventual match. Now he has Hart he can add to the list (as well as Corino) and maybe a few surprises.

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Corino has been one of your top talents, and with his services secured for another 3 months he should continue to raise the prestige of this title.

it's a handicap match. Sure WWE used to bury up and coming tag teams by having them lose these type matches to a single guy. I think you'll give us better and mor realistic bookings

Ron Killings v Abyss (D+)

hopefully Abyss doesn't catch the "Whine Flu" or whatever it is that Killings has.

Petey Williams v Trent Acid (F+)

two rising stars? Trent has been around longer and doing a decent job for you. May take Petey a few months before he hits his stride for TNA

DARK MATCH

Ken Anderson defeated Matt Cappotelli in 6:54 by pinfall with a Kenton Bomb. D-

Explosion

Tuesday, week 3, October 2004

Midwest Wireless Civic Center, Mankato, MN.

Jeff Jarrett is backstage. He informs those watching that he has signed up a very interesting main event for tonight... Ken Shamrock will face Jerry Lynn... with Teddy Hart as the special guest referee. We then cut to Ken Shamrock punching lockers in his locker room. C+

Briscoe Brothers v Homicide & Suicide

The Briscoes look like they are beginning to fulfill their potential as they are looking progressively stronger in recent weeks. Here, they are decisive and put the new tandem to the sword as they win in 9:32 when Mark Briscoe defeated Suicide by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. A good match too. C-

Potter is seen in his locker room, incensed at Frank for costing him his chance at regaining the World Championship on last week's Championship Explosion. He is going to make amends. That is... the Potter Promise...C-

Frank v Potter

Does Potter ever do what he promised. He gives Frank a lesson in mat wrestling as he simply outclasses him technically in this contest. Potter gets his revenge in 10:51 by submission with a Sharpshooter. The night has started well. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Trent Acid

The normal staple of quality wrestling has suffered a little of late. Trent's impressive start in TNA has been rewarded with a title match, but he finds Mystery a step too far as the two put on a tepid match. Mystery defends in 13:25 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. Mystery makes defence number 9 of his TNA X Division title. D+

AJ Styles is mad now. This seems to be the theme of the night. He has an idea for The Ring Wizards. He doesn't want the match at Halloween Havoc to be a title match, he wants to find a tag team partner and have a straight up tag team match. In return, he will give The Ring Wizards their handicap match the week before on Explosion. Tenay and West question AJ's wisdom on commentary. C

'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Super Crazy

Another good match, one which went back and forth, mainly airbourne. This bodes well for the X Division six way at Halloween Havoc, and Crazy pulls through here in 13:39 by pinfall with a Trifecta Moonsault. Suicide and Homicide applaud Crazy after the match. C

Cameras cut to a basement, where Steve Corino has Scott Steiner tied to some large pipes. Corino laughs at the camera, before smashing a steel pipe into Steiner's head, knocking him clean out cold. C-

Juventud Guerrera v Ron Killings

A very good match between two new signings in TNA. Both men were giving each other everything they had, when Abyss strode out to the ring led by Harley Race. While Race had the referee distract, Abyss splashed Killings from behind which enabled Juvi to win in 10:50 by pinfall with a Juvi Driver following interference from Abyss. B-

Harley Race then instructs Abyss continue the assault, which he does, and leaves Killings motionless in the ring. Then he awaits his match... E+

Abyss v American Dragon

The wrestling has been really solid tonight, as the fans witness another entertaining affair. Abyss overpowers the high flyer in 12:55 by pinfall with The Black Hole. C-

Jerry Lynn v Ken Shamrock

Special Referee - Teddy Hart

Hart is anything but straight in this match, clearly favouring Lynn all the way through. Lynn and Shamrock put on the quality performances you would expect from two of the best around, but Shamrock gets in Teddy's face after his umpteenth slow/fast count against Shamrock. This distraction allows Lynn to roll up Shamrock and win in 18:47 by a fast-counted pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Shamrock has been totally screwed and his prospects look very remote for the main event at Halloween Havoc. Jeff Jarrett appears on stage to applaud a job well done. B-

DARK MATCH

Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown in 10:13 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. The two didn't click at all. D

Explosion

Tuesday, week 4, October 2004

Three Rivers Coliseum, Kenniwick, WA.

Jeff Jarrett is alone in the ring, and is there to tell everybody about his plans for this week. Tonight on Explosion, he is going to allow Ken Shamrock to get some training in to prepare for the Halloween Havoc main event. He will face off against both Jerry Lynn and Teddy Hart in a three way match... with Jarrett himself as the referee. Jarrett then says that everything is in place for him to keep his title this coming Sunday. You can imagine what Ken Shamrock must be feeling. Will he survive tonight, let alone Sunday? C+

Gail Kim v Sara Del Ray

An awkward bout that could have sent an insomniac to sleep. Del Ray wins and gets some momentum heading into Sunday in 6:54 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. E-

Sure enough, Ken Shamrock is mad. No change there then. As the camera follows him, he finds somebody he is looking for, and promptly lays into him, beating him down to the concrete. It's Teddy Hart. Shamrock has mildly increased his chances of surviving tonight. B

Ron Killings & Trent Acid v Abyss & Petey Williams

Oh dear. Killings and Acid were woeful as a team, while Williams was visibly terrified of Abyss... and he was his partner! The match was a sorry state of affairs, and Abyss and Killings were only briefly in the ring together. Thankfully it didn't go on for too long, ending in 8:37 when Abyss defeated Trent Acid by pinfall with The Black Hole. E+

The camera is again with Ken Shamrock. He is wandering around backstage, presumably looking for one of the other of his opponents on Sunday. Sure enough, he finds Jerry Lynn, who goes the same way as Teddy Hart earlier on and receives a barrage from Shamrock. Suddenly, Shamrock is evening up the odds somewhat in his own way. B-

Caribbean Cool & Briscoe Brothers v Spanish Announce Team & Beer Money

A big eight man tag with ramifications for Sunday, and a minor improvement in the standard of wrestling. Things really need to pick up after a very good week last week. Eight man tags normally descent into chaos at some stage and this was no exception, and out of it emerged the Maximos, pulling off the biggest victory of their careers and firing a warning shot to the champions prior to Sunday. SAT & Beer Money win in 12:20 when Jose Maximo defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall after using a foreign object. D+

We're back with Ken Shamrock. Two down one to go it seems... He enters Jarrett's office, where he leaps over the desk and sprawls onto Jarrett who was sitting in a chair. He gets in the mount position and begins to reign down punches, only for Steve Corino to emerge and bash Shamrock over the back of the head with the base of a desk lamp. Shamrock is then down. Jarrett gets over him and asks Shamrock if he thinks he is stupid, having seen what Shamrock did earlier to Lynn and Hart, he was always going to have backup. B-

Amazing Red, American Dragon & 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Homicide, Suicide & Super Crazy

The six men in the six way compete in a six man tag. The bad thing is though, this match would only rate a six if it was out of twenty. The six way needs to be much improved on this. Crazy appears to indeed have sided with the team of Homicide & Suicide, which does not bode well for Red, Dragon and Daniels. The teaming trio are victorious in 12:36 when Suicide defeated American Dragon by pinfall. D+

Harley Race then leads Abyss out, who attacks the celebrating Suicide. Race says to the camera that Killings needs to prepare for this on Sunday. E+

AJ Styles v Ring Wizards

AJ looked very good in this match, but not even TNA's longest reigning X Division champion could overcome the promising tag team of the Ring Wizards who win in 10:43 when Mike Quackenbush defeated AJ Styles by pinfall with a Quackendriver. D

The Ring Wizards continue the beating after the match, only for AJ to be saved by Spanky, who tells AJ he has his partner for Sunday night. E

Steve Corino & Juventud Guerrera v Mystery & Scott Steiner

Steiner is itching to get his hands on Corino. Unfortunately for him, every time Steiner is tagged into the match, Corino bails out, it's classic face heel stuff and the fans lap it up. This is our first decent wrestling action of the night and it's long overdue. Unlike his partner, Juvi has no qualms in facing Mystery but it is Corino's relative freshness who enables him to win the match in 15:37 when Steve Corino defeated Mystery by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion, much to Steiner's displeasure. C-

After the match, Steiner grabs a steel chair and attacks Corino with it, his anger and frustration that has built up over the past couple of weeks clearly coming out. C-

Jerry Lynn v Ken Shamrock v Teddy Hart

Special Referee - Jeff Jarrett

Lynn and Hart seemed to have mostly recovered from their earlier attacks and take pleasure in double teaming Shamrock for the entire match. It's not all plain sailing though, as Shamrock mounts offence of his own, but every time he builds momentum, Jarrett pegs him back by blocking his way or warning him for 'offences' he didn't commit. The numbers game prevails in what essentially was a handicap match as in 20:22 Teddy Hart defeated Ken Shamrock by pinfall with a Hart Attack. The three stand in celebration over a prone Shamrock after the match. C

DARK MATCH

Frank defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown in 9:45 by pinfall. The two showed great chemistry. C+

Halloween Havoc 2004

Sunday, week 4, October 2004

The Super Pit, Denton, TX.

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett is holding a summit with Jerry Lynn and Teddy Hart, where they are discussing strategy for the title match tonight with Ken Shamrock. When it's over, Teddy Hart leaves and Jerry asks Jeff if he can have a private word. He tells Jeff that he's not sure he trusts Teddy, he's a young kid and very much has a very self centered attitude. Jarrett agrees with Lynn and the pair agree to keep their eye on him. C

Petey Williams v Trent Acid

An average match to kick off Halloween Havoc 2004 as two young pretenders look to make a name for themselves in TNA. Trent Acid has been the more impressive of the two since signing for TNA and he continues this trend by defeating Williams in 6:45 by pinfall with a Yakuza Kick. D

TNA LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Amy Dumas (champion) v Sara Del Ray

Despite showing good chemistry, this is still TNA's usual low standard of ladies' match. Amy makes a comfortable defence in 7:33 by pinfall with a Lita Bomb. Amy Dumas makes defence number 8 of her TNA Ladies title and you have to wonder how thin TNA management's patience is running with the ladies division. E+

Sting returns to TNA after being out injured for almost a month. He says that despite his lack of action of late, he is still focused on preventing Jarrett from taking TNA on the road to ruin, and as he gets ever closer to getting hold of Jarrett, his hunger gets stronger to enable TNA to prosper in the future. C

Beer Money (with Midajah) v Briscoe Brothers

These teams have faced off a few times of late, and due to that this match needed to be better. Briscoe Brothers are certainly getting better, as they earn probably their biggest win to date in the TNA tenure, prevailing in 10:52 when Mark Briscoe defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with a Briscoe Bashed. D

Harley Race comes to the ring and tells the TNA fans to prepare to witness the immense power of his monster, Abyss. He then tells Ron Killings that he will have wished he never came to TNA once Abyss is done with him. C

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Ron Killings

The match disappointed somewhat, not living up to what everybody had hoped. Sure enough, Abyss overpowered Killings, but Killings hung on in there for some time. Eventually Abyss' size and power overcomes him as he wins in 10:24 by pinfall with The Black Hole and Harley Race is gloating outside the ring. D+

Spanky walks into AJ Styles' locker room, and tells him he has his back against The Ring Wizards tonight. He extends his hand to AJ, who shakes it. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Caribbean Cool (champions) v Spanish Announce Team

Teamwork was the name of the game here and both teams had it in abundance, putting on a quality tag team match. Both teams looked very cohesive and could have won the match at any time. It is SAT who pull of a mild upset by winning the titles in 14:20 when Joel Maximo defeated Colt Cabana by pinfall with The Spanish Fly. Spanish Announce Team win the NWA TNA Tag Team titles. C

Following the match, Carlito is berating Colt Cabana for losing the match and the titles. He gets in his face but Colt brushes him off, telling him they are supposed to be a team. Is there trouble in paradise? E+

'The Road to Jarrett Part Five

Sting v Doug Williams

Sting is very impressive on his return to TNA action, although Doug shows he is no slouch and gives Sting some trouble. It's a good match between the two, but Sting shines through and beats Williams with some to spare in 8:58 by submission with a Scorpion Death Lock. C+

AJ Styles & Spanky v The Ring Wizards

AJ looks a class apart here as he and Spanky give Wizards a wrestling lesson. The end comes quickly in 3:35 when AJ Styles defeated Ken Anderson by pinfall with a Styles Clash. D+

Ken Shamrock speaks from backstage, where he acknowledges the size of the task ahead of him tonight, he knows that Jarrett is fearful of facing him one on one as he rightly should and the only way he can win is by bringing backup. Shamrock says he will fight like he always has, but for once in his life he knows his prospects aren't good. C+

Number one contendership for the X Division Championship

Amazing Red v American Dragon v Homicide v 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels v Suicide v Super Crazy

This match was crazy, but short of super. Nonetheless, with six exciting high flyers in the ring, there was action aplenty and much to keep the crowd entertained. Following a plethora of aerial moves, Dragon takes control and earns the title shot in 15:52 when American Dragon defeated 'Preacher' Christopher Daniels by submission with an Arms Across America. C+

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Mystery (champion) v Juventud Guerrera

A solid match where Mystery faces his toughest challenger to date... and chooses tonight to put in a performance that was sub par. When your opponent is somebody of the ability of Juvi, then that's curtains for you. We have our second new champion of the night as Guerrera makes the most of Mystery's mistakes to become champion in 13:56 by pinfall with a Juvi Driver. Juventud Guerrera wins the TNA X Division title. C

A video plays hyping Scott Steiner versus Steve Corino and recapping Corino's abduction of Steiner. C+

TNA NATIONAL CHAMPION

Steve Corino (champion) v Scott Steiner

A good match between to stalwarts of wrestling, who put on an old school match that had the attention of everybody. Steiner comes exploding out of the corner from the opening bell as predicted, and Corino bails. Steiner calms down and the two take turns to show their ample wares. Steiner begins to roll back the years as the match wears on, hitting a belly to belly suplex and then a frankensteiner before dethroning Corino in 18:13 by submission with a Steiner Recliner. Scott Steiner wins the TNA National title. C+

Attention turns to the main event, and Ken Shamrock is seen making his way into the arena first. C

Next is Teddy Hart. Shamrock wants to get hold of him, to try and gain an early edge, but the referee stops him, warning he'll disqualify him before the match if he does. C+

Jerry Lynn walks out, pointing at Shamrock, but also sneaking a beady glare at Teddy Hart. C+

Finally, the champion walks out with his title belt and his guitar. B

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett (champion) v Jerry Lynn v Ken Shamrock v Teddy Hart

From the get go, Shamrock is triple teamed as expected. He fights for his mere survival but the trio make the numbers pay and Shamrock fairly quickly gets in a bad way. That's when Hart's youthful hunger and perhaps greed starts kicking in, as he spies a chance to become the NWA TNA Champion. He begins to go for pinfalls on Shamrock, much to the behest of Jarrett, and then when he breaks up a pinfall attempt by Jarrett, Jarrett goes nuts. He nails Hart with a stiff right and orders Lynn to take care of him. Lynn obliges and starts fighting Hart all over the arena. This gives an opening to Shamrock who mounts his first real offence on Jarrett now he has him one on one. However, the earlier beating takes it's toll and ultimately Jarrett's relative freshness comes to the fore. He takes control and retains in 22:39 when 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett defeated Ken Shamrock by pinfall with The Stroke. 'The Ring King' Jeff Jarrett makes defence number 10 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. It may well have been different had Shamrock got the one on one match his Regal Rumble win entitled him to... B-

Jerry Lynn reappears, soon followed by Teddy Hart. Lynn congratulates Jarrett and Jarrett thanks him, before getting into a heated argument with Teddy Hart, saying that he had reneged on their agreement, and he will be sorry that he has done so. B-

Show Rating: C+

Jay Briscoe was slightly overused. The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.
