Who is CE? Is it...

ANGRY GILMORE?

Nope.

There are plenty of clues to CanEl's identity in the diary thus far; some of them are only that visible to people who also read Tigerkinney's 2008 offering, some of them are pretty clear anyhow. (His theme song, for example, some people would call a complete giveaway, assuming they knew the database and made the right connection. One of the signature moves he's been given and the name of another are also hints.)

I haven't publically announced the name mostly because there's been no real reason to.

(On the topic of references to and in other diaries, btw, the Total Mayhem revelations about Eric Tyler's start in the business have been confirmed over in God Bless Texas, the excellent '77 C-Verse diary featuring Referee Billy. I've been meaning to plug ajcrible for that and his diary for a while.)

Besides, if CanEl were Gilmore, he'd be getting used a WHOLE lot more. :D

That being said, I didn't realize until recently that Angry had the 'Elemental IV' alter ego in the database, so it's not a complete stretch.

New Wave vs. Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez w/ Phil Vibert

New Wave´s losing streak is likely coming to end in PPV match (or when one turns against the other) so they lose here again.

Rising Stars vs. Marc DuBois & Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

DuBois and Hawkins are still higher on the ladders than Rising Stars though not by much

Canadian Elemental vs. Jack Bruce

Canadian Elemental isn´t big enough name to go over Bruce

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Sammy Bach (non-title)

Champ is kept strong and though Bach is good I´m not sure he´s high enough on rank to go over your main champion anyway.

title change is possible here but likely it would happen in PPV so I go with champs retaining here.

New Wave vs. Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez w/ Phil Vibert

New Wave can't win as a team right now, Newton & Perez look like they may just be getting a push as a regular team for now.

Rising Stars vs. Marc DuBois & Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

More than likely the slow build has already begun for one of the Rising Stars turning on the other, and the Generation Omega pair need to remain looking strong.

Canadian Elemental vs. Jack Bruce

Bruce has been a bit of a disappointment but Canadian Elemental, no matter how awesome he may turn out to be isn't ready to go over someone of Bruce's status yet.

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Sammy Bach (non-title)

Bach's good but there's enough people in the title picture already without Bach throwing his hat into the ring with a non title upset.

TCW World Tag Team Championships

The 'temporary' champs keep rolling as they come through a tough challenge and retain the belts.

New Wave vs. Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez w/ Phil Vibert

- The New Wave continue their slide, GenOmega solidify themselves in the tag ranks by knocking off those were once the best in the business.

Rising Stars vs. Marc DuBois & Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

- Draw. I think a double DQ to set up some long term feud potentials between all four members.

Canadian Elemental vs. Jack Bruce

- A thrilling match by Jobby Bruce.

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Sammy Bach (non-title)

- Not quite time for Bach to 'upset' the champ.

TCW World Tag Team Championships

Art Reed & Greg Keith © w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. British Lions w/ Laura Huggins vs. Elite Express

- Neither of these teams quite topple the champs on free TV. Interesting to see how close to perfect these three are.

Eidenhoek - I love your passion for this diary but sometimes I wish you had a volume control.

I figured it was Riveria from the hints in the dynasty but didn't see the point in mentioning them. The winks and nods were nice in-game nudges to those who knew.

As for Gilmore, copyright reasons? Maybe Angrier Gilmore? Mellow Gilmore? Surly Gilmore? =D

Eidenhoek - I love your passion for this diary but sometimes I wish you had a volume control.

I think Eidenhoek coming at this from the angle of a 'character' one of an irritating smark :p At least I hope that's the case :D

Anyway as for Lee Rivera being under the Canadian Elemental mask, he is the perfect choice for it. Good high flyer but a not particularly engaging character as himself...put him under a cool mask and it completely transforms him into something pushable beyond a 'pop the crowd with some exciting moves, curtain jerker'. It's exactly the reason I chose him to wear the Phoenix Negra hood I invented for my 2008 FCW diary.

As Phantom said why put someone with an established/over gimmick under a mask, such as Angry Gilmore.

Rivera's performance skills aren't the greatest, but they are hardly terrible either, in fact I would place them as reasonably good but as he will be in the ring with plenty of good quality workers they should improve.

I feel a little dumb this morning. I feel like I'm the only one who just learned who was Dark Phoenix. I honestly never thought of Rivera, neither for DP or CE.

And there in a nutshell, I'd say, is why he needs the mask.

Tigerkinney's expressed logic at the time, IIRC, was that he had an idea for a character, needed a high flyer, and looked for one who didn't have the it factor to stand out otherwise.

He picked Rivera.

Coming up to a big promotional event in Canada - first TCW show there and it's a PPV - I thought it was time to expand the All-Action division in much the same way I expanded the tag division - bring in a bunch of established faces and a few new ones, throw them all together and see what starts happening. And the natural thing to do was bring in some good high-flying Canadians, one of whom would get some solid establishing work done early and then see what he could do.

The Canadian Elemental alts around the place led me to decide to use that connection, not least because it makes for cool story and means I feel guilty if I don't give him some real support - imagine just arbitrarily creating a new member of the Tiger Mask legacy and then crapping on him.

Like TK, I thought the mask should go to someone who otherwise wouldn't have the breakthrough factor - and having enjoyed Phoenix Negra, I decided to pay homage.

And to be honest, the fact you wouldn't have pegged Rivera as the guy under the mask, I read in part as 'Rivera is forgettable' - which is probably the big knock against him. In both cases, the mask gives him something.

Somewhere Trent Shaffer is thinking... 'if only I didn't have that irrational fear of masks...' :D

"Ah, but they make me sweat so bad...and I feel so claustrophobic in them...no, I don't care if it would've revolutionized my career. I'm not gonna hide behind some gimmick to take me to the top!"

New Wave vs. Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez w/ Phil Vibert

Once again, the Wave spend their entrance deep in conversation with one another. Their attitude, admittedly, does seem a little cheerier following Guide's victory on Tuesday, but they're certainly still not behaving in any way you could describe as 'upbeat'.

The Generation Omega boys, on the other hand, are already pretty close to jubilant. And then the bell rings, and hell breaks loose. Davis and Frankie want to prove some kind of a point. Guide and Scout just want to win, plain and simple.

It's not a brawl, but the main reason for that is that none of these four men are unscientific in their assault. This is systematic violence, precise, accurate, and slick, and while tbe Wave certainly go great guns after the Generation Omega boys, they're having trouble. Frankie hook-kicks Guide as the Wave man attempts the Guided Missile, then clamps down the P-Clutch. With Newton able to block Scout's attempted rescue, the man who beat Tyson Baine has to tap out.

Grinning broadly, Phil Vibert enters the ring, microphone in hand. “Ten years ago, I hired Guide and Scout,” he begins. “Ten years ago, they were the best young tag team in the world. They proved my faith in them right over the next few years. They learned. They blossomed. And, somewhere along the way...

“Well, you just saw it. They've lost what they had, what it was that made them so successful. They don't have that drive anymore...

“So forget about them. Let's talk about two men who really matter.

“When you look at a car, one of the things you have to consider is the engine, the bodywork, the design. A single part does not make a machine; it's all those parts acting together that make a car a classic, that provide the performance you need.

“A complex machine, just to go fast. The more difficult the task you want to accomplish, the more intricate the solution... the more elegant the design has to be. The better the blueprint... and the more complex.

“When what you want is something that can analyse another, isolate its weaknesses, protect its own and use that knowledge to defeat their target... well, you need a blueprint as complex and elegant as life itself.

“A man like me assesses that level of capacity at a glance. A man like me looks at these two... and sees the GenOme.

“And let me tell you... the blueprint here is perfect for winning titles. Whoever wins out tonight, watch your back.”

Rising Stars vs. Marc DuBois & Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

You want a brawl after the opener? You got one. Generation Omega plays it calculating, arrogant, provoking reactions and going with mind games. Aaron and Joey wade right in there.

The Stars aren't quite what they once were, however. It's not a lack of talent, or a lack of drive... it's communication that's missing, communication that sets them back. Vibert doesn't help, either; the entire match, he's seated in full view, making notes in that spiral-bound notebook of his. The implications are clear, and Andrews and Minnesota both seem wary of each other as a result.

Which means that when the Full Moon Rising smashes Joey in the face, Aaron doesn't come to his rescue.

Vibert rises as the match ends, putting his notebook away before collecting a microphone, tossing it to the two Generation Omega men in the ring. Wolf snags it out of the air.

“One more month before I put this one to rest,” he says. “That much is clear, anyhow. One more month...”

He shakes his head. “And I'm sure some of you are thinking, hey, it can't be that bad, it's just a month more, what's the big deal?

“You don't get it. You don't understand what it's like... I was brought here by Cornell, brought here on a wing and a dream of promise, and thrown aside. Left to sink or swim.

“That actually wasn't so bad. Then he thought he was doing me a favour, thought he'd hook me up with a tag team partner... Stevie Grayson.

“Favour that wasn't. But I got through, just about, and after a while he came to me and said it was time I should run with him.

“Like I should be grateful. That was how the Syndicate started. Two years – two damn years I was expected to do nothing but kiss his ass. Two years where all the success I earned was just there so he could say he was responsible.

“And now, what, another three months to sort that out? Five and a half years, this comes to, five and a half years where I haven't been able to stand up and claim credit for my own actions. Five and a half years where he's claimed everything I can do is down to him.

“I have the Ticket to the Top burning a hole in my damn pocket, and before I can draw a line under this and move on, I need to show him I'm better. I have five and a half years of improvement, of victories, of titles and wins and growth and development as an athlete that is down to ME, and that I can't claim credit for until I beat him, until I prove I've outgrown him.

“I don't want to wait, Tommy. But I know I'm going to have to. I would have been done by now, if you'd just given up.

“You took Ricky on, though. I know how much you hate him. I know how much doing that must have hurt.” He grins, wild and savage and proud. “That tells me how much I've hurt you. Enough for you to swallow that hate to take me on... Oh, that's good. That's satisfying. But it doesn't put you away.

“I need you put away so I can get on with my life. And Ricky's a problem with that. So!” He pats his stablemate on the shoulder. “Marc here has a free dance card, right now, on account of the bull**** that went down Tuesday. Ricky – you need distracting, and I know we're going to laugh the moment Generation Omega have all proved you're past it individually. So how about you let Marc prove he can hang with champions?”

Canadian Elemental vs. Jack Bruce

The masked man offers a hand to Bruce before the bell rings, but Jack doesn't take it; instead, he steps in, swinging a punch. It's a good solid hit, too, knocking CanEl back four or five paces; as Bruce lunges forward to capitalise, however, CanEl leaps, meeting the charge with a dropkick, crisp as can be, that takes Jack off his feet.

Jack scrambles up and charges again; Elemental vaults over the charge this time, landing on both feet and going for a superkick; Bruce ducks under the leading foot, steps in, and gets a twisting spinebuster.

So it goes, ultimately; with the crowd behind him to a surprising degree, even against Jack Bruce, Can El hits hard and fast, but Bruce has experience enough to hammer home shots of his own.

Little by little, bit by bit, Jack Bruce takes it from an even fight to something a little in his favour. After the Elemental kicks out of a third or fourth pin attempt, Bruce backs off for a moment and starts measuring for the New York Minute.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/HarryAllen_Grunge3.jpg

And then there's a blur for a moment – and at the end of that blur, Harry Allen seems almost to hang in midair as he snares Bruce in the Gunslinger's Revenge.

Elemental watches Bruce whiplash back off the campus and rolls past him, springing up behind him -Elemental Suplex! The pinfall follows rapidly, much to the crowd's surprised delight.

“OK,” Stephanie Wade says, as the camera flees backstage. “Let's talk.”

“Right,” Rocky nods. “Mind if we start with Tuesday?”

“I didn't see you Tuesday.”

“No,” Rocky says heavily. “You didn't. What you did was get involved in that Mexican clown's match. What was that about?”

“I've got plans for you, big guy.” She smiles. “You and me, we're going to the top. But that means you gotta be able to get there. So I found a fight you've already got a dog in, and I'm hijacking it.”

“Meaning?”

“Meaning, this month, you gotta find another girl to tag with. Because you and me, big guy... we're gonna be on opposite sides of the ring Where Angels Fear To Tread. And we're gonna beat hell out of each other.

“Because if you can take me out, if you don't puss out on it when you're staring across the ring at your hookup, then you've got the killer instinct I want.

“This month, you either beat me, or we're through.”

Golden slowly closes his mouth. “What the hell's Lover got to do with this?”

She shrugs. “Board won't OK a one-on-one intergender fight. I checked.”

“You've thought this through?”

“Yep.”

“So you're serious.”

“As a heart attack, big guy. And if you're serious about me... then you're serious about this.”

Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Sammy Bach

It's a heck of a match, it really is. Bach keeps his distance – he knows already just how nasty Bloodstone's submission holds can be, and he has no intention of being caught in them.

That gives the champion the perfect justification to showcase a different side to his arsenal – a striking game, with a side order of suplexes.

Both men give their best here, and it rapidly escalates into a frantic exchange. Some of Bach's charges the champion counters, others hit home.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JeremyStone.jpg

And then Jeremy Stone arrives. As Bach crashes into Ray Johnson with a ducked leap, Jeremy slides into the ring and punches the champ in the gut. A powerbomb swiftly follows, and Stone grabs the legs, stepping through into the Stone Hold, leaning back on it.

Johnson gets back up, a little shaky, and turns around in time to see what's going on.

As he calls for the disqualification, Sean Deeley hits the ring. A solid punch to Stone breaks the hold. Another, and another, and a European uppercut – and Stone is staggered. At the corner of shot, someone rolls into the ring behind Deeley, as the young Canadian whips Jeremy to the corner.

He turns en route and crashes into knees as he does so; knees of someone perched on the top rope. She hooks her arm around his neck and launches forward, flipping into a Diamond Dust. Except -

“Girl's Best Friend!” Jason Azaria yells. “I thought I recognised her...”

Laura Huggins arrives at ringside, microphone in hand, as Stone slowly recovers. “Me and Sean did some hard thinking, Mr Stone,” Laura announces. “We realised that, yeah, OK, you're happy to pull your crap in front of fans the world over. And Edd looks up to his brother.

“But I think we found someone you don't want to disappoint. I think you might just be a little embarrassed trying this stuff in front of JeriLynn.”

The newcomer turns to face Stone, nodding agreement. She takes the microphone. “Hi, Dad,” she says. “You going to set me a bad example?”

Elite Express

And the tag division once again goes balls to the wall. With a minimum of three people in the ring at any given moment, picking out more than scattered moments would be hard here, and there isn't really anything that looks like a story per se – it's more a hectic mess of high-octane, high-impact sequences meshed together skilfully with brutal-looking holds.

That said, it never really slows down enough for anyone to pick that pattern out easily. A memorable sequence sees Reed and Keith unite to eject the Express from the ring, only to be blindsided by Morgan and O'Curle; O'Curle hurls Reed out of the ring while Morgan sets a figure-four in on Keith.

Merle promptly applies a figure-four variant as a chokehold around Greg's neck, really going to town, as the producer cuts away to Matthew Keith, watching helplessly – and more than a little angrily – from the locker room. His father rests a consoling hand on his shoulder, but before Greg can be forced to tap out, Nate Johnson and Bobby Thomas soar in from opposite turnbuckles; Thomas splashes Morgan while Johnson drops a leg across O'Curle's throat.

Acting in concert, they scoop Greg up, Thomas supporting him as Nate climbs the turnbuckle, looking for the Precision Driller.

But Art Reed's in; he dropkicks Johnson to the outside, then sweeps Bobby's legs from under him, leaving Greg to roll through into a sunset flip pin more or less on instinct alone.

With Reed to play spoiler, that's enough for the champs to retain.

Show Notes:

For those who don't know who JeriLynn Stone is, she first appeared in Wallbanger's excellent Generations (C-Verse) diary for TEW2007 as the booker of NOTBPW. She's used here with permission, and indeed her theme tune was selected by 'banger himself.

Her render was originally attached to a character named Carrie Oakey, as rendered by LoNdOn (as noted in-thread.) Again, render is used with permission, after some slight hair alterations.
