I never assumed they'd be wrestling. For me Nash is a vehicle for a Punk feud with Steph and Johnny Ace, furthering the Punk v The Establishment storyline. Nash is playing the hitman/bodyguard role. I expect HHH and Cena to takes sides, making it a potentially epic storyline (hopefully executed better than the Nexus one that ran out of steam last year).

Yea I think bringing Nash in was pretty cool. It gave us a nice "holy crap" moment that few saw comming and keeps the feud fresh without Punk and Cena having to face each other yet again.

And btw, to the Cena haters, he DID drop two incredible matches to CM Punk last two PPVs. he's also been putting him over in promos on screen. And Punk really is the only true danger to his Tshirt sales. Mysterio does really well too. He puts over mysterio alot as well. But I guess he doesn't make guys look good. Just sayin'...

Cena has the fan bare from going out of the WWE to do other stuff. Like the Rock did. This brings in more fans for him, thus the need to sell himself that much greater. I dint see Punk being on his level yet, if at all.

I doubt the Punk/Nash feud is going to hit the ring for an actual match. I wouldn't be sad to see it, but doubt it will happen.

I'd be upset if this was a Hogan, or Flair type. I think at some point the guys need to realize that they are too old for the ring..

I wouldn't be sad if Punk/Nash did get in the ring together for a match. For one, it'll probably be short. Two, Nash was never great, but he was imposing enough and Punk's good enough to carry him if it doesn't go long. Three, the promos will be good. Nash is better when he's just goofing around (like with Shelley and Lethal in TNA) but he's still good. Four, it's only a small percentage of fans that would complain about the match. The casual fans (the ones that really matter) are going to see the legendary Kevin Nash, a massive man, going up against new fan favorite, the much smaller CM Punk. When Punk goes over, they'll flip ****.

Kevin Nash is an all time great professional wrestler. In ring, I agree he was never as good as Undertaker or Kane but he was pretty awesome for awhile. And while his mic work wasn't the best I've ever seen this Monday night, the man's history should speak for the man's ability to work himself as a character.

One might remember that when Nash was awesome, he didn't have 100% scripted promos like he did on Monday Night.

His work with Hall and Hogan during the nWo angle is some of the most important stuff in wrestling history. It changed the buisness forever.

However, I think we need to retain a sense of perspective over it. I read somewhere (possibly not on this forum, and not implying that anyone here is saying it) that since Punk's new shirt sold out very quickly he's now a threat to Cena as the top merchandise seller. Hopefully that could prove to be true in the long term, but for now the WWE and their affiliates are, I would expect, making a hell of a lot more merchandise for Cena than Punk. Punk may sell out 'x' amount of merchandise, but Cena (even when not sold out) is still selling '2x' merchandise because they create a lot more for him than anyone else because he sells more.

He isn't anymore.

I don't think any of us really know what any worker is like. Without having spent hours backstage at a WWE event we don't know what is and isn't acceptable. When we hear that 'Worker A' did something to 'Worker B' and decide 'Worker A' is a bad person, we don't really know that 'Worker B' hadn't been pushing 'Worker A' over the edge for a while.

Even when a respected insider (or multiple insiders) who's judgment we trust says something about a worker in an interview we don't know how accurate it is. They could be coming off working several hard shows, a couple of extensive fan appearances, and another difficult interview with a dick of a radio show host, and then had 'X' accidentally do something to annoy them, so when 'X' is mentioned in the interview they may be more critical than they would normally be.

Moreover, we can't judge workers based off how they treat fans (unless they do something really over the top). A worker who isn't really very nice may be very good at putting it on for the fans, and a worker who is actually a great guy may not be so comfortable slipping into a rapport with random strangers and so the fans get a false impression of both guys.

Finally, in an industry that is bound to have a lot of egos, people competing directly against eachother for spots, and coming from many different backgrounds and areas, there is always going to be a clash of personalities. Two wrestlers who are both really great guys may get on badly, and instantly people want to say that one of them is great and a victim of the other's dickishness, when in reality they are just two guys who don't really like eachother forced into a high pressure environment together on a regular basis.

In short, what I'm unnecessarily trying to say is, we all know how stories change over time and how different people tell the same story in a completely different way. We all know how someone can get along poorly with one person who has a lot of influence and suddenly several other people turn on them too for very little reason. Therefore, we really have very little idea what any wrestlers we don't know personally are actually like, even when we think we have the inside scoop.

Tomb/MJ alter egos?? <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Tommy I get what you're saying, but if you meet the guy on the street and he's curious and pleasant you're going to think he's a nice guy, if it happens more than once well just makes it that much more believable.

I wouldn't go as far as calling him a top 5 big-man in the 90s; Vader, Bigelow, Undertaker, Kane, early-Big Show, were at their peaks during that timeframe and were better workers, in some cases considerably so. Nash had an impact outside of the ring but not entirely positive, so that aspect doesn't add too much positivity to his legacy. It's certainly beyond absurd to call him an all-time great or anything like that.

At a push, I guess maybe you could get a Street Fight or something out of it, but the last thing I really want to watch is Nash's tendons creaking and snapping around the WWE ring on a regular basis.

The match would need to be overbooked, ie street fight, falls count anywhere, hardcore, something along those lines to keep it from being a technical fight where people will expect great chain wrestling. Look at Randy Orton vs Christian, they kept the feud going by slowly doing technical matches, and building up to that No Holds Barred match. When that came along, we were a bit tired of seeing the technical matches. But seeing that No Holds Barred match was a breath of fresh air and easily one of my top 5 matches of the year.

5: Orton v Christian - SummerSlam

4 Bryan v Barrett - SummerSlam

3: Cena v Punk - SummerSlam

2: Triple H v Undertaker WM27

1: Cena v Punk Money In The Bank

I'm pretty sure his promo wasn't 100% scripted. If it was Russo writing it would make sense but the WWE has never been scripting promos with "inside comments"

I'm pretty sure that Nash and Punk were pretty much non-scripted.

Fair enough. I wouldn't argue the point. The word out there is WWE writes the promos now way more than they used to. Wrestlers have less freedom to do what they want. Piper recently commented on this as have other wrestlers. I'm sure if you care enough you could google some stuff and read about it.

But I wouldn't argue the point that they might have let Punk and Nash go at it without a script. Rumor has it they've been giving Punk freedom since he started this feud with John Cena.

I don't ever think Nash's ring work was among the best. But as a mic worker, as a character- one of the most important figures on the late 90s no question. People should be and semmingly have been excited that he's working a top angle right now.
