TEW10 Render Thread

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question, it may be hard to answer.

Seeing the renders done, obviously there are some that are far more detailed, and I know there is a learning curve. But..

I am contemplating getting Daz, and trying my hand at renders. Is there a huge learning curve? I know there is the practice makes better deal going on, but, it is really complex to start creating renders right off the bat? I mean after figuring out what I'm supposed to do. I'm sure y'all know what I mean.

It's not complex at all to get started and you can make something decent pretty much straight away. If you want high detail you are going to have to invest a bit of time and money though. Easy to pickup, difficult to master.

As you can tell, I had no hair and no clothes at the time - in Daz...tsk! But it's the most acceptable pose I've managed so at least there's that!

Wouldn't think clothes & hair would be a problem for you. Can't you just draw them on?

No. It's not difficult. As soon as you figure out what-does-what in the program, it comes down to your imagination. It's like Photoshop. There's a lot of depth to learn, but you only need to know a couple of features to get going.

Main bit of beginner's advice. View > Tabs > Parameters. Took me ages to figure that out.

Self where are our daily freebies :p

No rush matey!

Damn. Missed a day. If more people were giving me compliments I wouldn't forget these things :D but then I do think I've burned you out, giving it all up for free, and my recent fare hasn't been my favorite. It's been the bottom of my old rendering barrel.

Speaking of which, Here's a girl in a SWAT uniform.

I think she's the only V3 render I haven't deleted in disgust. Good for her. Next, representing my BSC collection, from the land of magic and pixie dust, ready to cast her love-spell on anyone in her path... SPRITE!

Every promotion needs a token goofy fat dude. Didn't have time to mess around getting clothing to fit him. Skin folds didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped but that wont matter if you're cutting him for your game.

I like it. She looks horny. *sits back to receive praise for his wonderous pun*

*tumbleweed* :p

I'm just jealous that you got in with it first.

I use Poser rather than Daz, but by all accounts it's far more user-friendly than Poser is. Judging by what I've seen from people who've taken up rendering with it, several have posted good quality first renders within 2-3 days of picking it up. The basics of rendering aren't too tricky and there are numerous tutorials dotted around sites like renderosity that cover simple elements of it, but you can always ask in this thread. As always a little effort and practice goes a long way.

I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been. I can do wrist tape by tweaking things like you and Self said. In my mind I was thinking taped hands (like Punk/HHH) but put down wrist tape. I've tried doing as the bolded says, I'm just not that good at doing it yet lol.

I'm trying to improve mine. This is a rough tutorial of how I create them...

My method (in paint-shop pro or photoshop) thus far is basically find the skin texture you want to use the taping on, copy it and then paste it as a new image (to avoid saving over the default obviously). On the new image (with the skin texture as the background layer), create a new layer and just draw white rectangles over the areas of the texture that need to be covered (I'm using white as the example since it's the most common, but use whatever colour you want the taping to be). The next part is dull, but export what you've done so far and save it as a .jpg so that you can load it onto the respective model in DAZ/Poser. Apply it and spend time doing a quick test render, then going back to photoshop and moving the white areas around, resave/export and repeat until they line them up properly so they're aren't gaps or uneven ridges in the render.

Once that's done, save it as a base psd (so you don't have to do the first bit all over again if you want to make different coloured taping) and then experiment with applying a texture-effect to them to try and actually make them look like fabric, rather than a flat white area (you can try giving them a really light shadow so it actually appears to be raised slightly from the skin). Create a new layer above the white areas and draw some black or grey lines to convey some sort of 'wrapping' - adjust the opacity depending on how subtle you want this to appear. If you want to do something further, like put an image on the taping, just insert another layer inbetween the 'white pieces' layer and the 'black lines' layer and again, adjust the opacity of that layer as required.

I'm not the best at explaining things, so that may be overly confusing and/or make no real sense. I'd add some screenshots, but I don't have either photoshop or Poser on this PC to do it.

This guy's been my avatar for a few days, but I held off posting him because I was unhappy with his full body pic. Ioan Glyndwr. Direct descendant of welsh hero Owain Glyndwr, Ioan was to be a young, lighthearted, almost-whimsical hero in the vein of Robin Hood... Errol Flynn version, not Kevin Costner or Russel Crowe. I'm so fond of the character, I'll be writing him in mad5226's new diary/efed project. Should be good times.

My first attempt at tattoo's. I think they came out pretty well.

Looks very cool. Tattoos look good too, not stretched or too dark/heavy. For some reason with the aforementioned Kevin Costner flick, I'm actually feeling a bit of Will Scarlett in this. At least I think it was Will Scarlett, I haven't seen the film for years... maybe it's a young Christian Slater vibe or something, but anyway, definitely captures the kind of character you've described. Nice work.

Wow, there's been some really nice stuff showing up here lately. Good work all around :) . It actually inspired me to dust off DAZ for one render anyway...man I think it's been about four months. As always I'm a little rusty.

By far your best work. I wish the character expressed itself better in the cut though.

True enough. I did the cut days before I did the full body, so it's not quite as good. Here's a new cut.

for first renders those are pretty good. your 1st one would be an awesome valet for Mr Evilness

Thanks!

There for I create her and call her Miss Evilness.

Can anybody give some tipps for faces???

Im pretty new in DAZ and have a lot of problems.

I don't find really good tutorials and I don't find out any about new faces or how to transform them. How can I give V4 a smaller face and bigger Lipps?

Would be cool, if anyone can give a tutorial or a link to a really good one.

Lazy attempts at a Policeman tag team. Officers Bobby Goodison and Bobby Hardaway. Good Cop Bad Cop! No clue why I thought sunglasses were the way to go. Follies of youth I suppose.
