End Of An Era

 

<blockquote>Sam Strong had been a hero of Kurt's since he was a little child. On Tuesday & Friday nights, Kurt would be home with his father in front of the TV cheering at SWF or HGC and even at age 7, he was good at calling matches. Kurt had taken a fancy to Hollyweird Grappling Company after watching his fathers old SWF videos featuring Sam Strong and had heard that Strong was behind the book at HGC.

 

He couldn't believe it when 15 years later, he was standing in the same room as his childhood idol.

 

Sam Strong had been the pioneer behind United States Pro Wrestling for the last 6 years, and it appeared to Kurt that the business side of running the company had taken its toll on the man. Strong always had a receeded hairline however his greying hair had turned almost pure white and his face looked sunken and worn. Beside him stood his daughter Alicia, looking radiant and without the standard mask of her USPW character Muffin. Sam Strong headed up to the podium to start the press conference that he had arranged.

 

'Ladies & Gentleman..' he began. 'In my 30 years in the wrestling business, there are a number of things that I am really proud of. Like winning my first Championship in Japan, or my numerous reigns in SWF and TCW. For those I thank Richard Eisen & Tommy Cornell'

 

He raised his glass to both men, each had sat as far away from the other as they could so as not to ruin the event by having the press all over them.

 

'I would also like to thank my wife and daughter, who are here today for putting up with me all those years on the road, and i'm proud to see Alicia spearheading the Womens Division at USPW and being award Female Wrestler Of The Year in December'

 

A wave of applause went through the crowd for Alicia, and you could see that she was loving the attention. So much so that her mentor Sensational Ogiwara had to whisper in her ear to remind her that it was her fathers night and not hers.

 

'But i'm no spring chicken anymore. Im 65 and my body isn't what it used to be, and after some consideration i have decided that i am going to step down from running USPW and have a less involved role. Heck, i might even leave the business altogether'

 

The whole crowd stood in stunned silence for a moment, then as if all at once, the press started shouting questions, and snapping pictures.

 

'USPW will be put up for sale in the next few days. Thank you all for coming'

 

Upon finishing his speech, Sam Strong stepped off the podium and left both the room and the business.

 

Days later, Gareth Wayne was announced as the new owner, who promptly removed Shane Sneer as booker and had decided to do the job himself until he found someone better.

 

Upon arriving back at his office, Kurt was greeted by Hannah Potter.

 

'Hey Boss' Hannah said. 'You might wanna see this' and handed him a letter which he opened right away.

 

'Please accept this as my resignation, effective immediately

 

Alexander 'The Tic' McCallum'

 

Kurt looked at Hannah and handed her the letter.

 

'Balls' he said under his breath
