The Video Game Thread

All of EA's Manager/Gm/Career modes have taken a steep hit over the years, with less and less emphasis being put on them. I guess you always walk a fine like between being TOO sim heavy instead of being fun to play... but damn I recently played Madden and Fifa 04 at a buddy's house (he has my old PS2) nd I swear they've taken AWAY faeatures from the franchise mode. In both of those games.

I was messing with the old save in Fifa in particular, where you used to financially invest in your team, stadium, etc. Set salaries, hired more coaches, had a more developed youth squad.

It's a real shame they've all but said no one cares about single player any more. Because I do. I'm not a kid anymore and I don't play video games to hang out with friend and meet new people. More often than not I'm playing video games for very much the opposite reason. I just want to relax and chill. Sports games have always been a great stress reliever for me as I tend to play a variety of ways. When I play hard games I might get frustrated which isn't helping me chill out or I'm TOO engaged. Sometimes with a sports game I can get both experiences.

Currently, with MLB the Show 16 my franchise is set to be very hardcore and sim-like and I get very realistic stats from it. I find the game challenging and engaging. Winning each game is a battle fought with both strong strategy and good execution. But when I just want to come home from work after a 12 hour shift, hang out for an hour to wind down and maybe crack an adult beverage or two before bed - I just turn on my Road to the Show mode with all the sliders jacked up in my favor. MY centerfielder is about to finish his second consecutive MVP regular season with a batting average of .620, 94HR, and 132 Stolen Bases. No stress at all :)

Finally made the move to buy a console especially for EA UFC 2 (well... and Forza even though the next one might be on pc). I'm not disappointed by the game - which is pretty fun to play and more difficult than I expected - but it does feel kind of shallow. Ultimate Team must take ages to 'top', given you get so little to start with (Who gives money to these things? What's the endgame here? Top rankings on leaderboards? You're paying for that?). Career mode goes smooth, but would benefit a lot from more immersion. Right now it's indeed a string of modes. Rather shallow.

The standup is relatively easy to grasp, but the ground game seems to require you to memorize every damn transition. They say it's intuitive but I manage to screw up everytime and take a left for a right and vice versa. But the system itself is quite good. Props to them. But I don't know if it's really significantly better than Undisputed 3, after all these years. I'm guessing they're making it a two-year title and keep improving on it, which bodes well for the future I guess.

If you like the Uncharted series, 4 is pretty much the best game of all time.

If you don't like the Uncharted series, 4 is still pretty good.

I know this is going to sound cheesy and cliché, but as a game it's not great. Like, the shooting mechanics are still awful and basically just get in the way. The puzzles are cool, and some of the jumping puzzles/adventure sequences are nice (massively over the top, as always, but fun if that doesn't put you off). But as an interactive entertainment experience (because that's not pretentious at all), it's some of the most fun I've ever had with a non-strategy video game. Of the "play once and put it away probably forever" type video games, it's one of my absolute favourites.

And considering it's not on PC, it's also one of the prettiest games out there.

Unless you've played Uncharted before and absolutely hated it, I'd seriously recommend checking out Uncharted 4. If you've played the first three it's a must-buy, frankly. A very fitting send-off for Nathan Drake.

I'm super hyped for the new Doom. I played the multiplayer beta on my PS4, and it convinced me to pre-order it, I think this is the first time I've ever pre-ordered a game. I love the old Dooms, and I wasn't excited for this one at all until I played the beta. It feels like old, good Halo multiplayer (3, Reach) mixed with the original Doom, which I know has gotten it some complaints, but IMO I love it.

Don't tease me DL, you making this hour of the game downloading for me even harder :p but yeah, I can't wait to finally play this, and Doom in a couple days (I have to wait for GameFly :( )

Has anyone had the chance to play Wolverine Studios Pro Football or Pro Hockey games yet?

I want to try them out but every game I have always bought from them ends up being riddle with more bugs than a bed in New York City. Therefore, I am very leery about trying anything they put out.

<p>It's been some time since my last post here on the forums...</p><p> </p><p>

So my interest in <strong><em>Overwatch</em></strong> is off the radar right now. I actually own the game on PC and PS4. The thing is, I have yet to actually play a game on either format. I want to badly, but my anxiety has become so bad I can't get past the main menu. I've only been able to do the Tutorial and the second training thing where you just walk around an area and kill Training Bots...</p><p> </p><p>

I knew this game required some social interaction before I made my purchase, but I was hoping I could overcome my anxiety. Unfortunately, I have not been able to yet. My fear is that I'm WAY too nooby for this kind of game. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I can't help but feel I'm going to be the main reason our team loses every match. And then take a verbal lashing by all my teammates while the other team laughs...</p><p> </p><p>

Yeah, I know that's my anxiety talking and my lack of self confidence (sadface) but I'm wanting to overcome this. I need to learn to not take things so personal.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, in all honesty, I'm not that good at first person shooter games. Especially multiplayer ones. I've played my fair share, but have never consistently played any to get better. Perhaps I'm better than I think, and I might be, but I feel I'm not that good. The people I play with usually tend to be better since they play more often.</p><p> </p><p>

Now that I just gave my life's story, I was wondering if anyone here has Overwatch on PC or PS4 and would be willing to help me out a bit? I'm a friendly noob just looking for other friendly players to play with and learn a thing or two and boost my confidence a little. I really don't have any other 'community' to go to. I've been a part of GDS since the beginning (and even before) so I figured I'd ask here. None of my 'real life' friends have the game yet and I don't know if they'll ever get it or not.</p><p> </p><p>

If you're interested, shoot me your BattleTag or PSN username either in a reply or a PM if you want to keep it private.</p><p> </p><p>

Hey, I really appreciate your input there. You're completely right. I shouldn't care if they laugh at me or if I get told I suck or whatever. I tend to take things too personal whatever the situation but there's only one way to thicken my skin. Chances are I don't know these people in real life and will probably never run into them either. I know all online games have some toxic in their community (some more than others) so I'm bound to run into some rude people, but I think I also overlook the possibility of meeting friendly players too that I could potentially regularly team with.

:)

I'm looking forward to the new Mass Effect as well but keeping my hopes at a realistic level. Hoping they release a bunch of information at E3 about it. Right now, I don't think we know too much at all.

I've also heard some rumors about a new Red Dead game. I absolutely loved Red Dead Redemption. I kinda wish I still had my PS3 so I could play it over again. Too bad they never released it on PC :(

<p>Since this is a video game thread, I hope people don't mind if I talk about one thats currently in the pipeline.. my one.</p><p> </p><p>

Its so very basic right now, but in the sea of crap that is my life right now, I'm pretty proud of what I have made.</p><p> </p><p>

<a href="https://youtu.be/Zj3qB5vbKk0" rel="external nofollow">https://youtu.be/Zj3qB5vbKk0</a></p><p> </p><p>

The idea is that you are a scavenger who goes into these randomly generated dark levels seeking gold/jewels/scrap/fuel (undecided currently) avoiding the defences (not in currently) that you are struggling to see since the lights keep cutting out. The player does have a halo of light around him, but thinking of switching that to a flashlight so you have to use that to look around.</p><p> </p><p>

I did add autotiling but after changing how a few things looked, they just look weird so will come back to them.</p><p> </p><p>

Thoughts, opinions and constructive criticism welcome!</p>

<p>So apparently it's E3. I was hoping for a new Elder Scrolls (almost said new Skyrim; it's that long ago...), but we don't get it, at least nog for many a year. Instead we get a version with enhanced gfx (whoa? mods? wut's dad?) and - hopefully - a new script system or revamp to make it more moddable. Not too excited about that, honestly.</p><p> </p><p>

I only saw a part of the xbox show by accident, but I wasn't impressed at all. Cross-platform was the big deal. Too bad I don't give a hoot. And there's expanded functionality we used to have but get back now (to the delight of some sheeping fans).</p>

Yeah so far it has been pretty underwhelming. I've no interest in anything they've discussed so far. Cross Platform is of no interest to me either nor is all this VR talk.

<p>With all the remasters coming out, is there any games that people wish would get a remaster? </p><p> </p><p>

Mine would be GRAW 2, I was addicted to this game back in the day, when we had two good teams (both with microphones) against each other we had a blast! I'd hope that Wildlands stuck to these types of tactical shooter games (slow but methodical, slightly too camp fest).</p>
