Blackman
Yeah, Dead Rising was fun for a while, experimenting with various improv weapons. But I also felt you had to grind to beat some bosses, as I struggled immensely. But maybe I just suck. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Zombies are still not a fad imo. I never heard of zombieland and can't exactly pinpoint the start of the booming period. Vampires also had a small revival with Buffy at first, ridiculizing them as a concept. Twilight made another worthwile contribution to this cause I believe. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

bigtplaystew
I don't see how Zombieland had anything to do with creating the zombie craze. It was well in effect when that movie came out. It's a product of it not the catalyst. I think early 2000s just saw some cool zombie movies, games, and one hell of a great comic book. It was a gradual cultural movement, not a planned out thing that one company or one entity aimed to get rich from. Zombies in pop culture can not be traced to any one thing, but ZOMBIELAND, a film that barely scraped the $100 million mark, is most certainly not the cause. I mean are zombies overpopulating games? Maybe but so are fantasy settings, WW2, modern combat, space marines, etc. I just think it's a cool setting people like to play in. And I think as someone who was very much active in gaming during that period, it was new and original and something to call our own then, and has since become a staple like the rest of of those settings I mentioned. bigtplaystew
So I finally cracked and bought a 3DS XL. A friend of mine at work was playing Pokemon Y and I just had to get it. I like it so far. The device is a little convoluted. For a company known for it's simplicity, it doesn't have it's online situation worked out well at all. Between friend codes, nintendo ID, and club nintendo accounts, not to mention being forced to create an alternate forum name that can NOT be the same as any of the aforementioned online identities, I feel like they could do a better job at simplifying all that. Pokemon X is cool and all. I like the system and will look forward to playing Link Between Worlds, New Super Mario Brothers 2, and some of the N64 remakes on it. It wont beat out my Vita for portable gaming though. The Vita is an actual fully realized console in portable convenience. The 3DS is a cool toy with dated visuals and a horrendous control scheme by comparison. If anyone's thinking of taking the plunge for a portable gaming device, do yourself a favor and get the Vita. Especially if you have a PS+ account. The "free" games you get on PS+ Vita are all great.
Fleisch
Had an unexpected day off work today so decided to catch up on some games and let me just say, not one of them was any good. Firstly I decided to finally install Settlers 7 that has been on my Steam account for about a year. Why I ever bought this in the first place when number 6 was a bug filled abomination still leaves me scratching my head. Absolutely awful game. Controls are fiddly, there's too much to do just to get one thing done. Deleted straight away. Next up I finally played Banished and realised this was a complete waste of my time. Exactly what am I striving for? It certainly isn't a bustling colony because everyone dies within a few years. I thought I was doing something wrong so attempted another save... they lived longer but same outcome, and I personally couldn't see what the point to the game is. Have I missed something? Too late now, deleted. Next up was 7 Days to Die. Thought they might have made some progress with the game as I've not touched it in a while, but no it is still as buggy and incomplete as it was when I first purchased it and now I'm tired of waiting for them to add the basics they promised. Big deal I can go walking around their own made map - what about those of us who wanted to create maps? Deleted. Seeing as Steam has nothing to offer I opted to get some XBox gaming in starting with Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare as it looked a fun "don't need to think" kind of game. What a steaming pile that is! Fun is not a word I would use to describe this game. It's like they just took a game, randomly picked 2 "enemies" that are so strange that people would overlook the fact it's bollocks. My god the fact there are people out there that have been raving about this makes me wonder whether I want to be associated with such humanity. Finally I downloaded Warface to try and take out my frustrations on other players and after 20 minutes of downloading patches, 15 minutes waiting in a queue and a further 15 minutes to wait for the game to load... it crashed. 50 minutes for nothing. No wonder they aren't charging for this piece of crap. And I'll tell you what you get for nothing - 2GB of your hard drive taken up. I guess it just isn't my day for gaming - what a lovely waste of a day off. I'll just stick with the basics of TEW, GTA & Skyrim in future. The other games you mentioned are all steaming piles of shit though, yes. I've been playing loads of Factorio recently. It's sort of a cross between Sim City and Transport Tycoon, with local wildlife that tries to kill all your stuff if you start polluting the area too much. Still technically in alpha and not on steam yet (they're working on Early Access) but it's already a really fun game. IMO, at least. Check it out: http://www.factorio.com There's a demo (the game's tutorial) which will let you know what it's all about. Pretty impressed with the amount of stuff you can do though. The Swanton825
I haven't played much of State of Decay, but what I have is pretty good. It seems to be along the lines of what people were hoping Dead Island would be. Finally got Dark Souls II and it's just as awesome as the first. I am kind of annoyed about how the obnoxious fandom has turned a lot of people off from trying the game. It's not "LOL so hard gaiz!" like these idiots will say, because I can actually advance in Dark Souls, and I'm not that good at most games. It's tough and frustrating, but it's fair. The enemies all have to abide by the same rules as you, and the bosses have exploitable patterns like in old NES games. And it's a slow paced game, so when you die, nine times out of ten it's your fault for not being careful (the other one is your first fight with a boss). Essentially, Dark Souls is about the satisfaction of getting past something difficult, than just about making you feel "so much more hardcore than the filthy casuals". However there are quite a few things that it could have added to improve the game tremendously. Making the character interactions more meaningful, more options in dealing with the other factions, a more difficult story, and various other things. Hopefully a sequel will expand upon the personality of the game with a little fine-tuning of the gameplay elements.

D-Lyrium
The Borderlands universe has a lot of room to move, in terms of both story and gameplay. I imagine Telltale's take will be like Sam and Max, silly, but still capable of dropping the drama bomb hard. I guess my main reservation with the BL universe is.. "why Borderlands?" IMO, it doesn't really have enough 'flesh' to it to make a game that isn't Borderlands (not as per the games, anyway, there might be novels or comics and stuff that I haven't seen/read/cared about). I don't really see what makes Borderlands so special that they couldn't just do whatever story they wanted to do in their own universe. I guess Borderlands would sell more than "Death Gun Robots" (though I'd totally buy a game called Death Gun Robots). I have nothing at all against the BL games, I liked them both and screwing around in co-op with a friend is still fun. But the actual universe itself doesn't seem to have a lot going for it for a TellTale game, other than the fact that the art style is already similar. When I think of evocative, fun game universes that would be cool to explore in different genres to the original games, I don't immediately think Borderlands (instead I think Dishonored, Mass Effect and Warhammer 40k). For years and years they were dead-set against it (for fairly obvious reasons. I'll be even harder to get people to spend £ridiculous on a physical army when they can just play the video game), but I guess with the release of games like Age of Wonders and the Might and Magic series, that excuse is becoming sillier, and it's more like "well everyone else is doing it...".

... DaMegaFish
I agree. I beat it once quite a while ago but was never interested in playing it again. I can't quite pinpoint why the game was nothing more than mediocre to me, but Dishonored is just one of the games I could never really get into. It's better if you pronounce Dishonored with a Sean Connery voice and read it as Dish-Onnored. In all seriousness though, I picked up the game for I think $25 in the fall or towards the end of 2012, and as someone who absolutely is terrible at FPS games on consoles, I loved it. It was definitely worth every penny, although I was upset that 4 of the 10 missions or whatever took place in the same area. Granted, the area was quite large, but after the first mission I just really had my hopes up that every mission would be in a very large unique area like that. That was my biggest complaint with the game. I played it in a stealth manner most of the time also. I feel that was kind of how it was designed to be played although you could go other routes.
