Since someone deleted my thread ill post here.

Me and a buddy are looking for a Wilderness Survival game for PC or even Xbox 360. Doesnt have to be multiplayer either but would be nice if it was. Would like sometime that doesnt look like it was made in the 1990s. Something new looking thats realistic. A game thats like Survival: The Ultimate Challenge" but newer I guess. I downloaded Fallen Earth and played it for a bit but im unsure of it. Im trying to get No Return to work but it keeps giving me some XP service pack 3 bullshit for my Windows 7 pc.

Suggestions?

Check out Rust. Seems to be the sort of game you're describing, though I've not played it myself.

Oh, and using the 'f' word to refer to anyone - let alone a mod - is probably a bad idea, just FYI. ¬_¬

As for me, I've been playing a lot of Divinity 2: Ego Draconis lately. Such a fun game, glad I gave up on Divine Divinity and gave the sequel ago. It looks beautiful too, perhaps not in terms of actual graphical fidelity (there's lots of weird stuff going on with shadows and draw distance) but the designs of the locations and armour and stuff is awesome.

Plus some of the dialogue is hilarious (both in terms of intentional funny dialogue; and the voice actor behind Romon, who is comically terrible). Liking the story too.

Although Age of Wonders 3 comes out tomorrow, so that will all be immaterial for at least a week I'd imagine. ¬_¬

I love rust though I do try and stay away from the heavy populated servers because you have no chance of surviving long, I read somewhere the life expectancy is like 7 min for a new spawn. I like to get into the servers that have 10-15-20 people. for every 1 nice person there are 10 wankers that would shoot on sight.

Been playing alot of Arma 3 lately on the multiplayer servers.

I would love to play these games with the members of GDS community but the problem is as I'm in Australia I cant play on the euro or US servers. the Lag would be just too much.

Ive seen servers with 150 people on them. I also like to try to find serves that have been newly wiped that way everyone starts again on a level playing ground instead of getting into a server where all the spots are taken and everyone has built mega towers and everyone is geared up. after playing in some really horrible servers I can see why youtubers like Jackfrags create there own server to play and record in.

How is the long-term play-ability of Madden 25 (xbox360)?

I just finished a long-term game with NCAA Football 14 and am burned out at the notion of playing another go-around. That said, I'm, for whatever reason, contemplating buying Madden 25 (even though I decided, in August, that I wasn't going to given the reviews I read).

Is it a solid game for multiple season play?

Thank you!

Unless pro football offers you a special level of joy that the college game just doesn't get for you than i don't see a single reason Madden 25 is more apt for a long term game.

In fact I find the computer is more likely to build superteams and stay competitive in NCAA than in Madden, where unless you runt he team players don't develop properly and (generally speaking) most of the teams wash out to a level of medcority. And unless you are a complete fool in ten years you will have BY FAR the best team in the game.

I find in the NCAA game it's a lot harder to be and stay the best.

I've been playing NCAA Football 14 since the summer and have done 2 different 15+ season careers with my coach. In the last one, I won 3 National Championships in a row with Colorado and pretty much have the sliders all set so I should lose (Heisman; heavy on the side of CPU for sliders). It just doesn't seem as much fun.

I was looking at Madden 25 because I hear it's a pretty good in-game football game. Plus, the owner mode gives me something new to work on versus just doing the same old song-and-dance-and-dominate that I get in college.

At least, in the NFL, you get contracts, drafting, etc.

I'm not 100% sold on buying the game yet though. I've bought Madden almost every year in the past; however, swore to never do it again with Madden 13. It was unplayable to me with the terrible stats (too high). It felt arcade-like; where I like more of a realistic approach.

So I just now only started to play the DS pokemon games, I'm pretty late but I've never owned a DS

and on the discussion of College vs NFL I feel there is far more variety gameplay wise in the college games. You have a multitude of different offensive styles you can build a team around whereas in the NFL games there is pretty much ONE style just slightly altered, and a style that is one of many in the NCAA games. I've gotten a lot of replay value trying to build multiple teams with opposing identities to make things fresh, you can't really do that in Madden.

Also wondering why the franchise mode way back in 07 on the last gen consoles was far better than any one since.

Madden 2007 was a great franchise mode. It needed a few tiny tweaks, mainly a better player development system so a QB could "learn" from the bench properly simulating the idea of the risk of putting a rookie out there versus grooming him for a few years.

2k5 wasn't even my favorite football game that year. I thought Madden's franchise mode was much stronger. And NFL2k's physics were always stupid. RBs don't knock over 3 tackling linebackers let alone make bowling pin noises when they do it lol.

I had both games and played madden more that year. That said, I do hope 2k gets into the football genre again when EA's license expires. The thing the madden series needs more than a year off (which will never happen) is competition.

Can someone explain to me what multi sample anti aliasing? I see it in the options for the majority of games, and I've always assumed the higher the better with it, but am I wrong?

Nope, higher is better (in terms of fidelity, but higher will hurt performance on lower end graphics cards).

Very basically: as you probably already know, computer images are made of pixels. Pixels are square. Virtually everything in nature is not square. Hence problem.

Low/no AA = objects are very obviously made from square pixels and rounded or diagonal objects have jagged lines, like this.

Essentially the higher the multiplier, the more 'samples' are taken, so the smoother the lines look (but at the cost of more GPU power). The best way I can describe is that if you take a serrated blade and look at the edge, it has lots of jagged lines. If you put two serrated blades one on top of the other and stagger them slightly, the jagged edges are less noticeable (2x anti-aliasing). If you get 4 serrated blades (4x anti-aliasing) it'd be even smoother. If you get 32 serrated blades... the jagged lines would look almost imperceptible. But obviously you'd be carrying a lot of steel around with you.

That's sort of the theory...

Cheers guys. With my new PC I know I can go at least x16 with it (I don't think I've seen anything higher) so I'll have to make sure to set it in the games I play in the future.

On another note, I'm playing Alice: Madness Returns. I bought it in the Steam Sales at Christmas and finally getting around to playing it, and I must admit I'm really enjoying it. I love the idea of this fairy tale land being so corrupt and disturbing. The game play is nice; simple with challenging puzzles, and then graphics are very pleasing on the eye. Anyone else played this?

I played the first part of that game. Even went so far as to purchasing it pretty soon after release (even anticipating it a little as I love the books). Loved the atmosphere - they hit a homerun there - but there was just so many tedious platforming. And I dislike platforming.

As for gfx tuning: it is indeed a double-edged blade. I've gotten used to Skyrim on 1920x resolution with good graphics. Now it starts to stutter, but taking it back a notch comes off as awkard as it looks way worse like that. It's all good to have options, but once you get there, you can't bear to go back. My Skyrim setup is now a construct I spend weeks tweaking/optimizing, only to find out that most of that was in fact bogus and might've made it worse. Now it runs relatively smooth, with some stuttering on outside areas, but meh.
