Sweet wow I sucked last round. I don't care about winning contests but... yoinks I was off by a Texas Mile. (Like a New York Minute - only longer than a regular mile so really nothing like a New York Minute. Moving on.)

Pain v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

- Pain is so young he can lose and learn from the underhanded tactics of the Leader of the New School.

Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

- I will always, and properly, underestimate of power of the Lone Star Trailers.

- It's Nero. If Montero can't overcome a guy with the moniker 'Cheatin''. What chance does he have against the Master of Mindgames?

Pain v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

I like Pain, but Jason Jackson is gonna take him to school.

Team Texas (Archie 'The Governor' Judge/Dave 'Double-Wide' Wylde) v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

I'm not at all sure on this one, just going on a hunch that the Serpents will be turning back heel sooner or later, and are gonna need opponents. Plus the Demons are green as grass.

I'm with everyone else on this one it seems. If Cheatin' Mike gets you, the Master of Mindgames is gonna have a field day. Montero looks good, but Nero takes the victory.

Texas Wrestling

War Memorial Auditorium (Midwest)

February (Week One) 1979

Attendance: 1,543

Rating: 0.14 on Channel 7 Regional

The program kicked off with its now-standard opening, a camera zoomed in on a young girl kneeling beside her bed, hands folded as if in prayer. “And God bless Mother, and God bless Father. But most of all, God bless Texas!” Then the screen cut to Lawrence Grove seated behind a desk at ringside.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MarvinEarnest.jpg

“Good evening and welcome Texas wrestling fans! I’m Lawrence Grove. We’re bringing you fans a little something different to start the show tonight. Let’s go to the ring with my broadcast partner the Lone Star Stampeder.”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TheLoneStarStampeder.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JasonJackson_MJSTARK.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Eruption.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/Tsunami.jpg

“Good evenin’ wrasslin’ fans. We’ve got an announcement to make tonight, so I’d like ta bring out Jason Jackson and Double Disaster.” The crowd booed at the mere mention of ‘New School’ and his Samoan cronies. Then the trio passed through the curtain and the crowd’s roar increased. Jackson strolled arrogantly to the ring, unperturbed by the negative reaction. He stole the microphone from Stampy. “Listen here old-timer. I – the Texas legend killer, the Inglewood Intellectual, the Daly City Dreamboat, the San Jose Savior – ‘New School’ Jason Jackson don’t give a damn what announcement you’re going to make. Because New School is on track to become the TWL champion. And nothing you say is going to change that.” Stampy ripped the microphone back from Jackson. “Listen here you snot-nosed punk. I’m gonna make my announcement whether you like it or not. And I don’t think you’ll like it. ‘Cuz the announcement is that you are BARRED from ringside when Double Disaster gets a rematch against the Crimson Serpent Cult for the tag team titles later in the show!” Jackson threw a mini-tantrum before snatching the microphone back from Stampy. “Doesn’t matter old man. I don’t wanna see Tweedledum and Tweedledee,” he pointed a thumb at Eruption and then Tsunami, “lose another title match. I’d rather celebrate my upcoming win over Pain!” He threw down the microphone and then started stretching, apparently preparing for his match and dismissing the somewhat confused Eruption and Tsunami, who lumbered to the backstage area without their leader. Pain v. ‘New School’ Jason Jackson

Billy’s Take: Jackson remained in the ring, stretching, while Pain made his entrance to the ring. Pain cuts an incredibly imposing figure and the crowd roared for the huge monster. In the ring, Jackson played the chickensh*t heel, asking me for a timeout and rolling outside the ring repeatedly to avoid Pain’s pointed attacks. Jackson managed to cinch in a sleeperhold, but Pain began to power out. Jackson hurriedly signaled to the back, ostensibly to call Double Disaster back to the ring. But despite his pleas, Eruption and Tsunami did not emerge. Instead, Jackson was sufficiently distracted to allow Pain to push out of the sleeper and hit the Pain Killer, an inverted piledriver, on New School.

“Well, it sure looked like Jason expected the cavalry, didn’t it Lawrence?”

“Sure did Stampy. New School can’t be very happy about that! Well fans, next up we’ve got quite a treat for you. The dastardly Demons of Rage led by the sneaky, conniving Professor Nero, against our favorite team, Team Texas, Archie Judge and Dave Wylde! Let’s go to the action.”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ArchiJudge1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DaveWylde.jpg w/http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DebbieDallas.jpg VS http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DemonAnger1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/DemonSpite1977.jpg w/http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ProfessorNero1977.jpg

Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/Dave ‘Double-Wide’ Wylde) w/Debbie Dallas v. Demons of Rage (Demon Anger/Demon Spite) w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: As always, Debbie Dallas gets more attention at ringside than her charges inside the squared circle. The crowd hooted and hollered at the vivacious vixen, especially when she jumped in the air after each successfully-executed move from her charges. Unfortunately there were not many such moves as, despite the resilience of the Texans, the Demons of Rage rather easily prevailed following the Double Demon Drop.

Demons of Rage d. Team Texas via Double Demon Drop

Match Rating: E+

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Well those boys sure did show some heart there, ain’t that right Stampy?”

“Sure is Lawrence. I’ve got high hopes for them boys, though they’re at a big disadvantage when they take on monsters like the Demons! Now up next we’ve got an interview with Cheatin’ Mike Barstow.”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/CheatinMikeBarstow.jpg

Cheatin’ Mike Barstow was joined in the ring by a man wearing a white medical coat and carrying a stethoscope as well as an x-ray. “This here’s Dr. Bollea,” Barstow began, “my personal bone doc. And what he’s got here is an x-ray of my shattered wrist.” Right on cue, the doctor lifted the rather nondescript x-ray. “And what he says is that I can’t compete until it’s healed. No matter what Cheatin’ Luis Montero may say, I cain’t wrassle ‘till it gets better. Now I will continue to make sure he don’t cheat, but that’s it. That’s all. I’m a vigilante – a real Texas hero – for fighting against the evils of men like Montero. And I intend to keep doin’ that until the good doctor clears me to get back in that ring.” D+

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Cheatin’ Mike’s up ta somethin’. He’s gotta be. It’s in his nature.”

“I think you’re right Stampy. I just don’t trust that guy. Well up next folks, we have a real treat. The TWL Tag Team Titles are up for grabs when the challengers, Double Disaster, get their rematch against the champions, the Crimson Serpent Cult!”

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Tag Team Mayhem: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) © v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Billy’s Take: Before the match, I reminded our audience that ‘New School’ Jason Jackson was barred from ringside. When Double Disaster came out, they seemed to have a new edge, a little more bounce in their steps than normal. Whether or not it was due to not having Jason Jackson around, I couldn’t be certain. But they definitely had a certain swagger. By contrast, the Crimson Serpent Cult seemed more reserved than normal, despite the crowd’s solid support. Inside the ring, this was a brawl. The Cult can mix it up on the mat, but the overwhelming size differential made such tactics difficult. Instead this turned into a battle of attrition. Cobra connected with a roundhouse kick, but only netted a two count. Eruption hit a huge sideslam, but also only earned a two. Then, finally, out of nowhere, Tsunami pushed Viper off the top rope where he’d perched in preparation for a high-impact move. The Samoan duo captured Cobra and hit the Tidal Wave, picking up the win and becoming the new TWL tag team champions!

Double Disaster d. Crimson Serpent Cult to WIN the TWL Tag Team Titles

Match Rating: C-

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Whoo wee, Lawrence, what a match. And we’ve got new tag team champions here in TWL! And we’re not even done with the show yet. What can top that?”

“Well it sure won’t be the next segment. We’re headed backstage where, apparently, the Texas Outlaws are standing by for an interview.”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/FloydBowmn.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JohnnyLawless.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MeanMarkGreen.jpg

Johnny Lawless, the leader of the Texas Outlaws, stood with Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman and Mean Mark Green in the backstage area. Green took the microphone and began speaking in his cool, laid-back baritone. “Two Eagles, you got awful lucky last Sunday when you and your red, white, and blue moron of a partner stole one from me and Floyd.” Bowman grabbed at the microphone, nearly frothing at the mouth, but Green held it tight. “The way I figure it, the war between us and y’all has only just begun.” Green passed the microphone past the hyperactive Bowman to the black-masked leader of the Outlaws. “Damn right Mark. Squaw Two Pigeons, you may’ve gotten the best of my two boys right here on Sunday,” he indicated Green and Bowman with his thumbs, “but you ain’t got the best of me. You always talk about seein’ who the better man is inside the ring. Well, you’re looking at him right here. ‘Cuz Johnny Lawless is the best there ever was, the Lone Star Icon, and you best never forget it.” C

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Strong words there from the former champ Johnny Lawless. I wonder what Chief Two Eagles will have to say about that next week on Texas Wrestling?”

“Right you are Lawrence. Now our main event of the evening is sure to be a real barn-burner. We’ve got the hated Professor Nero against the rising Mexican star, Luis Montero!”

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/LuisMontero1977.jpg w/http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ShannonKelly.jpg

VS http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ProfessorNero1977.jpg

Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: What a stark contrast in styles. Montero, adhering I guess to his Hispanic roots, was full of bravado and willing to fight Nero at every turn. His moves were fluid yet flashy, controlled yet explosive. Nero, on the other hand, relied on tricks, cheap shots, and mental warfare to wear down his much more athletic opponent. Back and forth they went, a halting, macabre dance between two outstanding wrestlers. But in the end, neither man’s talent won out as Cheatin’ Mike Barstow came down to the ring and, while Nero played possum and diverted my attention, blasted Montero across the back of the head with his cast. Montero crumbled, allowing Nero to lock the Mexican superstar into his finishing maneuver, the Descent into Madness shaking sleeperhold. I raised Montero’s arm three times, but each time it slapped harmlessly to his side. I had no choice but to award the match to the nefarious Professor Nero.

Nero d. Montero via Descent into Madness following interference from Cheatin’ Mike Barstow

Match Rating: C+

“Well folks, can’t say I agree with how Nero won that match, but can’t argue with the result. You have to consider him a top threat to Chief Two Eagles’ TWL championship. We can only hope that next week is as exciting as this one. Until then, take care and God bless Texas!”

2/4. Interesting comments bgbuff. New School IS moving up...just not in this one and Luis is sliding, but opponents have to cheat to beat him. I'm trying to keep him strong but have him lose a little to keep SWF or OLLIE or whomever from swooping in and signing him to a written deal.

- Pain is so young he can lose and learn from the underhanded tactics of the Leader of the New School.

2/4. Ah, ye of little faith. Double Disaster has not seen their time come and go. Plus having the belts on workers who refuse to sign for longer than 3 months at a time scares me a little. This is a win/win in my book.

And your oversize check is in the mail...or is it? Mindgames...

I like Pain, but Jason Jackson is gonna take him to school.

1/4. I like the logic on giving Team Texas the win, but the Demons need to be kept strong. It worked for the Lords of War (before Agony was a bastard and went to SWF) and I'm hoping to recreate that magic here.

Quick Picks:

TWL Tag Titles: Tag Team Mayhem: Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Luis Montero w/Shannon v. Professor Nero - DDQ/DCP

2/4. I like the idea of a draw in the main event, but decided to give Nero the win. After all, the feud between he and Two Eagles can't be done. It is supposed to last into the 1980s!

From the Notebook of Referee Billy

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/NeilFearn.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/TheLoneStarStampeder.jpg

“Billy, come on over here, I got somethin’ for ya’ to see,” Stampy waved me over to where a young man sat doing sit-ups. “Ok Stampy I give. What’s so important that I have to leave Thom and the missus at home to run over here?”

I was a bit impatient. Since Stampy had started the Lone Star Wrestling School just a few weeks ago, I’d not expected to see anything of substance for some time. The jelly-bellied young man huffing and puffing through simple stomach crunches was certainly not inspiring confidence. Apparently Stampy noticed my gaze. “No not him Billy. Hell no. Him.”

Billy pointed and I followed his finger past the Twinkie Kid to the makeshift ring about twenty feet away. At first, I didn’t notice anything special. Then I saw the object of his interest. Two youngsters, I’d guess each was in their late teens, were in a collar-and-elbow tie up. In one lightning quick movement, the one wearing black trunks moved in behind the one in blue and took him to the ground with a swift kick behind the knee. Then suddenly black trunks was on him, tying up blue trunks’ head and arms into an almost-impossible contortion. Blue trunks immediately surrendered. Black trunks lifted blue trunks to his feet and grabbed a towel, wiping the sweat from his brow. “That’s what…or should I say who…I wanted you to see.” The young man in the black trunks walked over to where Stampy and I stood. “This,” Stampy began, “is a young man who I think could go far in this business. Didn’t train here, but is working on some new moves, like the one you just saw, and will be joining the TWL roster. Billy Barrowman, meet…

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/SamKeith_alt1.jpg

Sam Gauge.”

OOC:

I loved me some Choose Your Own Adventure back in the day and, hey, it was relevant in 1979! To that end, I am giving you, the readers, the choice of which direction I should take Sam Gauge, aka Sam Keith. Should Sam Gauge become…

'Uncle' Sam Keith, the All-American, blue-chip, handshaking, smiling, waving, babyface and possible teammate of Luis Montero and/or Kenny Maynard…Turn to page 131

The first ‘pledge’ of the Party Animals, ‘Special K’ Sam Keith…Turn to page 54

Cheatin’ Mike Barstow’s equally-morally bankrupt stooge, Sammy ‘The Shark’ Keith…Turn to page 23

'Silent' Sam Keith, the cold-blooded, lethal assassin/mercenary with the most dangerous finishing maneuver in the industry…Turn to page 101

The choice, dear readers, is YOURS!

(And feel free to suggest a different name/nickname for these characters...I'm not particularly enamored with some of them, but they at least provide a template)

Send me a PM or post in this thread by Sunday night to cast your vote!

Sam "Twelve" Gauge or Sam "Shotgun Twelve" Gauge. I'll be turning to page 12 (of course) and I'd give him the aspect of displaying all sorts of painful submission holds but mysteriously referencing that he "knows 12 ways to maim a man. And you've only seen... four (or eight. - or whatever the number currently is)" But he never, ever reveals his twelfth and most deadly hold.

(Also the Shotgun Suplex could be an early version of the Neutronplex.)

Fully Loaded is also good, as is Silent Sam Gauge. I have other ideas but I'll leave it there.
