Steve Flash is Canadian, though. I can only think of a couple workers specifically stated as being from New York -- there are guys from the East Coast Wars, of course, and (less likely) from NYCW. Hell Monkey is a great worker, but he's a little young to be called a "legend," and clearly more of a name in Japan...

...but if we're talking "local legend who never caught on nationally," nobody fits better than than Honest Frank, who seems EXACTLY like one of those guys who is fondly remembered in a region for reasons not much more complex than "he was there, and he was pretty good."

Even in New York, Baine squashes him, of course.

Diamond has been in NYCW since '07... which isn't quite enough in my opinion to qualify a guy as a "New York legend", especially given that I see him as a guy who is constantly emphasizing the fact that he's from Texas.

Tyson Baine is in the ring, wearing the PWC World Heavyweight title belt, when the show starts, stomping around while slowly swinging his length of chain at his side.

The crowd hates him and he seems to bask in it, letting their anger fuel him as he closes his eyes and takes a long, deep breath, exhaling through his nose before he begins, speaking softly.

TB: “You don’t know pain.”

TB: “Not when your Philly Power or your Rapid Pro……”

He smiles.

TB: “Or your DaVE’s……when they died, it hurt.”

The fans let themselves be heard; their DaVE wound never having healed properly.

TB: “But it wasn’t real, it wasn’t….pain.”

TB: “I am pain.”

TB: “Baine is pain.”

Johnny Martin stands in the balcony amongst a throng of fist pumping fans with a microphone, wearing a sleeveless black Dave T-shirt and jeans; his ever present headband locked into place by the massive amount of scar tissue underneath it on his forehead.

JM: “When you come to New York City………..well godammit, you’re in my town.”

They all try to get in a back pat at once. He grabs a beer from the guy next to him and guzzles almost all of it before dumping it over his head.

JM: “I’m the King of New York Hardcore and everyone knows it.”

JM: “And if you’re lookin’ for a fight…..”

JM: “Well brotha’, I’m your man.”

JM: “Pain don’t hurt me, big boy; bring it on!”

Baine begins freaking out inside the ring, its ropes barely able to contain him as he begins stalking around his eyes and teeth looking like they are racing to see which can come bugging out of his head first.

The fans go crazy.

SD: “Johnny Martin has spilled more blood in this building than any other lunatic that has ever claimed to be hardcore……”

MS: “I wonder if Tyson Baine even knows who he is.”

ER: “Martin’s best days might be behind him, but even when he was in his prime, he was no match for the PWC World Heavyweight Champion. This will be fun to watch.”

SD: “They are going to get it on……TONIGHT!”

The cameras then take a sweeping panoramic of the building before settling on the grey ring with the black apron and red ropes for the first match.

Result: With Ford Memphis and Kitten having already headed out on their caddy riding soul search, Harry Allen comes at Darryl Devine alone. And that proves to be his undoing, as his effort nearly puts him on the cusp of winning the TV title.

Allen gets sucker punched at about the one and a half minute mark and gets put through the wringer by the methodical Devine until he finally gets his opportunity, rolling through a sunset flip over four long minutes later and walloping Devine with three straight dropkicks that all land impressively, two on his smarmy chin and one right on his ‘injured’ hand.

Seduction stands, almost back to the ring at the mouth of the aisle, not even paying attention to the match that Devine seemingly had well in hand, talking on her phone as Allen turns an atomic drop/rana combination into a chance to climb the turnbuckles.

SD: “Harry Allen, for those of you unfamiliar with his work, is right at home up on top like that; a little more maybe than Ford Memphis.….”

But Devine is a hair too quick, getting underneath him and trying to hook him for a superplex. Seduction hears the crowd’s swell and turns to see; she drops her phone and runs into Baby Jamie’s line of sight, bending down to pick it up as…..well, as seductively as her name might suggest. Devine uses the opening and bashes Harry Allen in the back of the head with his ever present cast, hopping down to the second rope before burying his rival’s longtime friend face-first with a “DDD” (Jumping Cutter).

MS: “That damned thing again, you guys. When is it going to end?”

Baby Jamie comes over and snatches Devine by the wrist, giving the cast a shake, and very obviously insinuating that he used it to beat Allen. The TV Champion acts offended and begins berating the small official, getting right in his face and poking him in the chest before Seduction, who has recovered the TV strap from the timekeeper’s table, grabs him by the arm and pulls him away.

Jamie and Devine continue to bark at each other as Seduction leads him back up the ramp, another successful defense under his belt. Devine taunts the diminutive official by raising the cast ridden hand in victory, smiling the whole time.

Phil’s Story Notes: Devine wins another, but the cast storyline begins to fork a bit, finally, before it starts getting stale and too old school predictable. And, we continue to use Seduction’s best qualities, getting her over at almost the same rate as Devine himself. At some point, that will come in handy. I’m sure of it.

Some unfamiliar music begins playing in the arena before the show’s feed is abruptly lost and snow fills the screen for about five seconds before a Sports America logo pops up on the screen. It stays there for almost five minutes.

When the show returns, the shot is of the arena. And when his music hits, people aren’t sure if someone in the trailer is pulling a fast one…….

But when Bruce the Giant ambles out onto the stage and raises his massive hand in the air, an entire building-full of people stand and freak out. The announcers lose it, too.

SD: “He’s a member of the Hall-of-Immortals if there ever was one, Mickey.”

MS: “I’ve gotten down with Bruce a few different times in my day. Wouldn’t recommend it.”

The biggest man to ever lace them up basks in the attention before his face turns sour. Never the most talkative, Bruce produces a microphone.

BTG: “T-Rex. Your streak ends at Uncensored.”

People cheer. Some people.

BTG: “Phil Vibert says that, even though you’ve beaten me once before…….either I end your winning streak…….or I will lose my contract to wrestle and retire.”

There are some boos now, for Vibert no doubt.

BTG: “So……….at Uncensored, it’s nothing personal. But, T-Rex…..you must lose.”

<div style="text-align:center;">Andre Jones/Dez Davidz vs. The Ring Generals</div>

Result: This match goes exactly as you might expect, with Waldorf and Statler’s experience as a team going head to head with Jones and Davidz’ athleticism; it makes for a fun match.

The finish comes when Jones and Dez seem to have another miscommunication, which has become the norm for the new team since the tag tournament, when stylishly dressed Guru pops up on the apron. His misdirection leads to their demise. Waldorf knocks Dez from the ring as Statler hoists a confused AJ overhead and impressively press powerslams him down, getting the winning cover right afterward.

SD: “And there’s no doubt that AJ and Dez are in a funk. That’s what? Three losses in a row, now?”

MS: “But their loss is a big win for Waldorf and Statler, you guys. The Guru must be really affecting them.”

ER: “I hope he’s just teaching them about wrestling and not feeding them Indian food, too. They are in training and don’t need that kind of intestinal torture.”

Phil’s Story Notes: Can’t have everyone just shoot straight to the top without ever losing a match, can we? I’m really excited about The Guru; he kind of just dropped into my lap by not resigning with SWF. Originally, it was going to be Shane Sneer guiding The Ring Generals. Guru has given me a completely different way to write their story.

Nicky Champion is backstage with Tommy Townsend on the beautifully lit interview set. Champion is as serious as ever, pacing back and forth as the camera closes in.

NC: “In case you hadn’t figured it out yet…….”

Tommy leans in and puts the microphone close. Nicky glares at him.

NC: “Back up, Tommy.”

Townsend is stone face still and takes a half step back. Champion turns back to the camera.

NC: “I am not intimidated by you, Enygma; acting all spooky, coming down from the rafters, hiding out and watching me?”

NC: “In fact, I kicked your mysterious ass pretty good last week, didn’t I?”

He nods; he knows he did.

NC: “You aren’t my focus, Enygma. Not anymore.”

NC: “My focus is on qualifying for the Golden Briefcase Match at Uncensored. I don’t know if there’s another way that I’ll ever get a sniff of the World Heavyweight Championship with Phil Vibert in charge around here……”

He turns away from the camera and seems to be only talking to the wary Townsend as he steps off the set, but the microphone still picks up the last thing he says.

NC: “And that’s fine; if being Sam Strong’s only protégé makes me a marked man in PWC……whatever, so be it. I’ve got bigger problems than that.”

Result: Remmy Skye comes raging out of the gate hitting hard and fast. But, as he is still without Sara Silver, Remmy falls victim to the three on one attack of Valentine Inc. He fights valiantly…..

SD: “What tenacity by Skye! It’s essentially three on one out there!”

…..but there is no justice. And, on the strength of Jumbo Jackson’s brutally stiff right hand from the apron, Peter Valentine runs a few moves together before hoisting the young party boy up and dropping him with his patented shoulderbreaker. The three count is academic.

Jumbo steps through the ropes and tries to high-five Peter after the bell clangs, but Valentine slaps him across the face, dressing him down and making him look foolish.

SD: “I don’t know what his problem is. Jumbo won him that match.”

MS: “I know what his problem is…..he’s an assh*le.”

Once again, Eric Tyler walks out onto the stage as Valentine and his posse passes and leers into the ring, staring at the downed Skye and laughing.

SD: “And it seems Eric Tyler can’t get enough of berating these guys.”

MS: “And Remmy has taken the brunt of it recently hasn’t he?”

Phil’s Story Notes: Love Peter Valentine. He can’t work a lick, but he has gotten everything out of this gimmick, hasn’t he? And his overness has really given Jumbo a boost, too, which is why he has been getting more time on his own lately.

Peter Valentine wins via pinfall @ 4:57

After the commercial, Peter Valentine is walks through the backstage area toward his limo, obviously eager to get back to his penthouse. He continues what began in the ring, laying into Jumbo Jackson for thinking he had a part in the victory.

PV: “I’m don’t know what I did to ever you think you’re of value to me Jackson…..but you’re not.”

Casey, hustling to keep up and stay right beside Peter, sneers and nods at Jumbo, who just shakes his head.

PV: “Why don’t you head back out to the ring…….”

He snaps his fingers in Casey’s face.

PV: “You too.”

PV: “Why don’t you guys prove how valuable you are? Wrestle someone. Beat someone up.”

They get to the limo. The driver jumps out and swings Peter’s door open. Jumbo shrugs.

JJ: “Who?”

Peter leans into the long white stretch, powers his window down, and scans the area.

KC Glenn and Spencer Spade stand about a hundred feet away, talking to road agent Craig Prince. Peter points in their direction.

PV: “Them.”

The window goes up and the limo screeches down the two car ramp toward the parking area’s exit.

<div style="text-align:center;">Jumbo Jackson/Casey Valentine vs. Glenn & Spade</div>

Result: Another; a second great tag team match on tonight’s show, this one running even hotter and just chock full of stiff offense from both teams. It becomes clear that Casey Valentine is getting isolated by Glenn and Spade, who do a great job of cutting the ring in half and keeping Casey a long way away from the outstretched arm of Jumbo.

As it looks like Glenn’s suplex sequence has Casey on the ropes, in perfect position for their vaunted finisher, the youngest Valentine creates his own chance, leaning out and throwing his thumb into KC’s eye, stopping his attack instantly.

But instead of making a move to tag in his super fresh and primed-to-go partner, Jumbo, Casey points to his temple in an ‘I-know-what-I’m-doing’ fashion and begins trying to engage Glenn himself.

Bad move. KC tags Spade and the young buck destroys Casey with a huge running knee-lift that he follows with a spinebuster, making the tag back to Glenn for their german suplex/springboard dropkick finisher. It connects; they win.

The bell rings and Ryan Holland holds up both Glenn’s and Spade’s arms before they bail out under the bottom rope and celebrate their way back up the ramp.

Jumbo Jackson is upset about the loss, but getting a pair of shoves from an upset-at-him-for-no-good-reason Casey pushes him over the edge; Jumbo whips him into the corner and nails him with a vicious avalanche, leaving him in a heap in the corner as he exits the ring, seemingly ending their relationship.

SD: “Wow! How about that from Jumbo Jackson?”

MS: “Good for him, Doakes. Good for him.”

PV: “Yeah way to do that to the nephew of the richest man in wrestling. Rich people always get their way, don’t you know that?”

Phil’s Story Notes: Good action and solid storytelling make for a strong piece of the show. I love getting this kind of work out of four midcard or lower guys, too. It speaks volumes about where the roster is now versus five months ago, don’t you think? Oh yeah, that’s why I was giving Jumbo the time I’ve been talking about. I’m going to give him a little push, I guess. We’ll see what happens with it.

Eddie Peak sits cross legged on the floor of his padded sanitarium cell, foaming at the mouth. He strains viciously against the tight, rugged canvas straight jacket that keeps him confined, ignoring the two guards that peer inside through the small grated window in the door.

It is nighttime and raining, and the lightning flashes intermittently in the background as the guards slide their viewing window shut, moving on to their other duties.

Peak quits foaming and rears back, spitting out a mouthful of pills. But he continues straining against the jacket, turning his gaze toward the barred window that lets some of the rain in.

EP: “STOP LOOKING AT ME!”

From outside the window, there is laughter. Slow and low at first, then ramping up into maniacal fits.

EP: “GODDAMMIT, STOP LOOKING AT ME!”

The camera pulls back……

Messiah kneels on all fours on the ledge of the opposite building. He continues to cackle. The guards push in and sink a syringe deep into the side of Peak’s neck, but he fights on, straining…..straining….

EP: “I’ll kill you….you son of a……..”

Another syringe. He slows.

EP: “Stop looking at…hh…..help me. Help me, Phil. Get me outta here!”

Finally he rests.

One of the guards thinks he hears something outside the window and peers out. But there is nothing but the rain. The other snorts and gives the unconscious but still sitting up Peak a swift kick in the ribs, knocking him onto his side.

James Justice is announced via a quick graphic as an entrant in the inaugural golden briefcase match.

SD: “His strange actions don’t change the fact that he’s one of the best workers in the company.”

MS: “Yeah, he’s one of the best when he isn’t stoned and thinking it’s 1996…..”

ER: “Which is always, right?”

MS: “Right, always…….except for when he is that brooding, black wearing, serious as a heart attack badass that he’s popped up as…..”

SD: “In other words, fans, James Justice is about as unpredictable as they come.”

MS: “And he’ll be involved in one of the most unpredictable matches in all of professional wrestling.”

Cameras cut backstage where a crowd is gathering around Nicky Champion, who has apparently been found unconscious.

Tommy Townsend stands over him as Baby Jamie and a couple of other backstage staffers holler out from nearby, trying to alert the medical staff.

MS: “I’d hate to say it, you guys, but I’ve got to think this is Enygma’s response after the way Nicky talked about him during that promo earlier.”

ER: “Do you guys think he’s Nicky’s ‘focus’ now.”

Result: When the main even starts, with his familiar 90’s grunge metal theme song blasting full force through the speakers, Johnny Martin appears in the crowd, high in one of the mid level balconies that wrap all the way around the Victorian style theater, fist raised high in the air amidst a sea of New York wrestling fanatics.

SD: “He is one of the NY fans own, and Johnny Martin is most assuredly HARDCORE.”

Martin takes a long time making his way through the adulation, stopping to high five nearly every outstretched hand that is thrust in his direction.

As he hops down over the guardrail and onto the ground level…….

SD: “It’s Tyson Baine! He’s down there waiting for him!”

Baine has his right hand wrapped with a healthy portion of his ever present length of steel chain and splits Martin open with the first shot he lands on the veteran’s scarred forehead.

From there, the World Champion beats the hardcore legend all through the crowd, really taking it to him with his punch and axehandle based offense before finally dumping him over the barricade and onto the floor near the ring.

The fans are going crazy watching Martin get torn apart and begin building behind him when he lands a desperation shot that stops Baine’s attack momentarily. When he winds up and drills the demon with an elbow, the front row fans stand up, pointing to something peeking out from underneath the apron.

Martin heads right for it and pulls a large sheet of plywood from under the ring. It is covered with barbed wire.

ER: “How in the hell did that get there?”

MS: “This is New York City, Emily! Martin’s got friends everywhere!”

Baine comes for him, but he sidesteps the monster’s errant attack, laying his barbed wire masterpiece out on the floor half propped up by the timekeeper’s table.

“You sick f*ck! You sick f*ck! You sick f*ck! You sick f*ck! You sick f*ck! You sick f*ck!”

Baine, now having rolled back into the ring knees Martin hard in the belly as he tries to come through the ropes to follow him, bashing him in the face with a nasty right hand before turning him over, leaving the hardcore legend prone, face up, balancing on the cable. Within seconds, the PWC World Champion has climbed to the top turnbuckle. And when he descends, nailing Martin with an elbowdrop, it flips him onto his face, leaving the challenger clinging to consciousness.

He needn’t bother. Baine quickly stands him and whips him into the far side turnbuckle, following him in with an even-bigger-than-usual clothesline and letting Martin stagger out, his eyes crossed.

But Martin has one last gasp, instinctively reaching out and grabbing hold of Baine’s head in a side headlock.

SD: “That’s his move, the bulldog! The wily old guy might have one big one left in him yet!”

He doesn’t. Baine rudely stops his momentum by grabbing him around the waist and getting a three or four step running start, lifting him at just the right moment before hurling him high over the top rope and sending him crashing, facefirst, through the propped up barbed wire plywood.

SD: “OH MY GOD!! IS MARTIN IS STILL ALIVE!!”

Baine takes his time, hoping down off of the apron and picking through the wiry rubble before looking like he is going to cover Martin on the floor. Ryan Holland has no problem with it and gets into position to make the count.

But instead, Baine grabs the unconscious Martin by the throat and lifts him on noodle legs to his feet.

SD: “I don’t believe this; someone stop this match!”

Baine quickly lifts Martin up high and blows him up with finality, sending him back into the pile of wire and wood chunks with a “Hades Bomb” (two handed chokeslam), putting his boot on Martin’s chest and grinning as the referee finally counts three and puts this one in the books.

SD: “That was disgusting, you guys! How disrespectful could Tyson Baine be to Johnny Martin? How he’s going to go back to work for the indy promotions he wrestles for now, I have no idea. And he carries a couple of them on his back, you guys. They might go under without him!”

ER: “Then he should not have tangled with the monster, Doakes. He wrote his name on that contract, the same as anyone else; the same as whomever we’ve got coming in next week.”

MS: “I hope whoever it is has been watching tonight and just stays home for their own safety. Whoever you are………save yourself!”

Phil’s Story Notes: A huge TV main event that I think rally started to show the brass tacks of what PWC can be about. We had all sorts of wrestling on this show, but a match like this, with all of its gory characteristics, can only go toward helping to further refine what the bulk of our audience expects from us. Baine continues his run; I’m proud to say that in my time running the show that I haven’t made the decision to put someone over him just for the sake of change at the top of the card. Besides, he’s proven himself to be a horse, both in his performances and in his ability to draw heat from the fans.

Your matches seem really short time-wise. TV title match was 6 minutes or so, the rest were 4 minutes, with a main event of 14 minutes to make up 32 minutes out of a 2 hour show. Nice to see Vibert throwing his good buddy Martin a bone, although to be honest I have to imagine a gory main event like that just three or fours month out from what USPW used to be must have been pretty jading for the transfer audience.

Also, 5 minutes of the sport America logo? What was that all about, because a stunt like would have people flicking the channels for sure.

Johnny Martin is an NY legend? That was a bit out there.

Your matches seem really short time-wise. TV title match was 6 minutes or so, the rest were 4 minutes, with a main event of 14 minutes to make up 32 minutes out of a 2 hour show. Seems like a Raw show, except with better booking.

Johnny Martin is enough of a legend in my eyes, especially considering his NY ties. Besides, it's wrestling; you are what they say you are.

The match times thing is a part of the product changes that "Phil" is making to the show. I read on one of the help threads that you could avoid match length penalties by making all the expected match lengths five minutes. Since I'm always shaving time off of the massive amount of promos I have running to make sure I don't get the penalty, and also due to the fact that there are so many stories to get to and a fair amount of quick squash matches, I thought it was worth a try.

Pretty cool show. Oh, and I think I tried to send you a PM, NoNeck, about...can't remember now, but your box is full.

I upped the cult and hardcore in the product (while pulling down the traditional a step) at the start of this month, so that match is kind of the presented version of that decision. And, aside from the arenawide brawl, it was only one spot. Well....one and a half. I thought it was appropriate.

The logo thing will play itself out pretty quickly. TV shows still have technical difficulties don't they?
