Tommy Cornell-Trace Power

“What is it you’re asking of me Tommy?”

He sat looking bluntly across at me, his eyes almost drowning in desperation. He had aged terribly these past few months, the stress of trying to keep the company afloat was beginning to wear away at him and leaving him looking a shell of the man he once was.

He tried to find the words to say, his composure always there with him until he finally managed to open his mouth long enough to speak.

“Trace, you’ve known me ten years now mate, we’ve been friends for all of those. When I took over I gave you the job as lead scriptwriter, we all knew you had the potential for it, just took you a while to see it all the same. We’re cutting down on budgets though Trace...”

So this was really it? After ten years of service I had become just another statistic that needed pushing out the door. The ungrateful son of a....

“Joel’s being moved to a full time wrestler capacity Trace.”

Wait? What?

“We couldn’t afford to pay him for both jobs, especially with the ways that the ratings and reviews have been going right now. So we asked him to take on an Enforcer position, become a part of The Dark Guard. He’s still going to be there in the locker room just like he always was, it’s just he’s not going to be in charge anymore.”

If it wasn’t for me being a good friend of Tommy’s I’d wonder why all this was being burdened on me at this point...

“That’s where you come in, we can’t afford to keep you on as just a scriptwriter these days, especially when our shows have very little angle time anymore. Joel recommended you, Robert seconded it and I agreed. Trace we want you to be the new head of show production here....”

Oh good lord. That really was the only thing going through my head right now. Could I really put myself against the likes of Peter Michaels, Phil Vibert, Victoria Stone and such? I have a scriptwriting and TV production degree from near 15 years ago. I’ve been backstage at TCW since 2000; watching wrestling since I was 5 and been the lackey for Bryant since he took over his role. Now it’s really my turn.

“Tommy, it would be a privilege man; of course I’ll take over the reins. There are just a few things...”

He looked at me worried. One thing Cornell knew was that Trace Power was a man who didn’t do things if he didn’t agree with them.

“Tommy, I want full control on Talent Relations, every guy brought in by me...every guy leaving by my word...”

He just looked at me with a grin.

“Hey what can I say mate, if it saves me getting the hatred from the boys, go right ahead. However, nobody leaves unless their contract is expiring or close to it. I am not willing to give away over $50,000 so some guy can jump to Supreme...”

If you thought Eisen was paranoid about TCW taking his talent; you need to talk to Tommy just once. Ever since we lost Bruce all those years ago he’s always been cautious as to who would go next. This is why Bach never got pushed. If it wasn’t for “Easy” Emma he’d easily be a champion right now but we can’t pull the trigger for him to just waltz on over to the Supreme Side ready for his lovely other half.

“Tommy, we need more talk time as well. The industry is looking towards that way, we can’t just let some guys watch 2 hours of wrestling and be so bored by it after a while that they just turn over to Supreme to watch two guys have a bitch-rant at each other”

He just nodded approvingly. I knew the next one wouldn’t get such a great reception though...

“Tommy...I want to take the belt off Rocky...”

---

That’s right. I’ve been planning this diary for a while now, mainly because of the awesome diaries I’ve been reading on here. Big Papa, Eisen-Verse, Angeldelayette and JHD1 have all inspired me to try and get my own going.

My history has been less than brilliant, I think the longest a diary has gone with me is about 2 weeks of game time (third time’s a charm maybe) but I have so much planned with this I thought it should be about time I started this for all my loyal fans (was that a tumbleweed that just went past)

A few in game notes:

*The Dark Guard I mentioned Joel Bryant was going to be a part of. It is the name I have given to my dark match wrestlers, the type of guys you would maybe see once or twice on the big show but really they are just there to help train up my talent. The two guys currently in the Dark Guard are Joel Bryant and Robert Oxford, I will tell you now that Steve Flash and JD Morgan are also there but don’t expect to see them on the show anytime soon (they could be in a few backstage segments but they are being as TCW wrestlers from the start of my default data)

*The TCW will have a board executive on screen...YAY! It’s only a small note but when you find out who it is you will just absolutely love it.

*Two guys will be leaving SWF development in the coming few weeks of the diary (pretty early before the end of the first month). In reality they will be going straight into my developmental territory so it won’t make much of an impact right now but I just love these two guys so much they kinda have to be in there.

*I’ve set myself a challenge that I can only bring in a max of two wrestlers a month for the main show and once I’ve put my 10 development guys in too that I will only be allowed to put two guys in a month there too tops. This is purely because I don’t want to do what I always do and overrun my promotion with too much talent too soon. A second brand would be a dream right now to get that far but as it stands that won’t be happening for some time.

*The Rocky Golden story...so I’m taking my biggest storyline and spoiling it straight away...or am I? Really down the line it will be quite fun to plan and write, based on what I’ve already come up with the list of people that could take it off him is pretty damn huge.

*Roster and champion pages, for now I’m not gonna do anything as there are still people to add to it and people need music and what’s not. Eventually it’ll probably just go at the bottom of this post, making this post absolutely massive.

*Finally...there’s gonna be about 4 more in diary posts before the prediction for the card will go up so yeah, have fun friendly people :)

Tommy Cornell-Trace Power

He continued to just look at me, not saying a word. Putting the title on Rocky it was well known, was Tommy’s idea. He felt that Golden was the ideal face of the promotion, the star quality, the just pure awesomeness of his look. There was still that one big problem however, even people like Edd Stone down in the undercard would put a better match on than him and most the time as well be more entertaining.

“Trace, as much as I’d like to even contemplate that right now...”

I just looked straight back at him, was he really just about to put the future of his company on a guy who would not be a believable champion if not for his size?

“Tommy, c’mon man, there are so many better prospects in the company right now. Keeping this guy as ‘the man to beat’ is almost like telling the wrestling world ‘yeah we have nothing to offer’. Think about it man, we stole Benny from the Supremacists, if they don’t tone down their product a lot of their talent will simply walk out once their contracts are up and you, you of all people have decided that a guy who shouldn’t even be in the Main Event should be champion. Hell why don’t we just ring up Sinclair and beg him to jump ship so we can feed him Keith and Vessey in a double tap out shock to a one man Boston crab on two guys!?!”

And after all that. He just laughed. See Tommy was used to my train of thought kinda leaving the platform and crashing off a cliff at times, passionate isn’t even the word you’d be looking for, determined is probably closer. Mainly determined to not be out of work. Fair play to Rocky he’s a nice guy, never makes any trouble but that man could easily struggle to make Tommy have a good match. And on occasion he has done quite easily.

“So what are the plans then Trace?”

I thought to myself for a moment, in my ideal world I’d take the belt off him as soon as possible and send him to be trained somewhere but god knows my ideal world is locked away so nobody can be scared by it. So therefore by question of logic I should go for the answer he wants to hear...

“We hope he improves during the program with Keith?”

Cornell smiled. Bingo.

“Good answer. See we were right appointing you, Sam’s a veteran who will never be fed to Scott Sinclair unless he does something to really piss me off.”

Ah Tommy Cornell. Always the optimist.

“If Sam can’t get an improvement out of him, even a small one then yeah we shall find the next solution to the problem”

“The Problem”; My nickname for Golden for the last few months, I ask you have you ever tried to write a promo for a hulking bunch of mass that has no real entertainment qualities?

“We’ve just invested too much time and effort into Rocky to throw him by the wayside and let Richard have his pickings of him...”

My face brightened, small, small idea.

“I’m guessing by the way you say his name you haven’t heard the news?”

I gathered he hadn’t. Tommy wasn’t one for using any wrestling news websites; they just angered him by what they said about the company.

“Right let me round to your keyboard a moment”

Tommy shuffled aside around his desk to let me in, letting me type two names into the Stallings search engine (Why oh why did he leave? I could use his money right now...) as the two names popped up on screen Tommy smiled to himself, easily SWF’s two brightest developmental talents and in a matter of weeks gone without a contract. He instantly knew what I was thinking.

“Tommy...let me have a meeting with them both, I’m sure I can get them signed in January”

He looked at me for a moment, although there was no smile.

“Neither of these guys are ready for the roster, it would be like putting into account everything you said about Rocky and then forgetting it for these guys...”

He was right. Wrong that he didn’t think I had a plan, but he was right with the logic he showed.

“Development Tommy...Development...”

“We don’t have one, no way am I shelling out money to pay for one either, there’s barely any left in the bank...”

“I have an idea, I meant to say to Joel but well...that boat passed. Chord is down in Mid Atlantic. He’s made some good stars down there, his son being one of them, we could easily use someone like him helping to train our future...”

Tommy just frowned at me for a moment.

“You realize it’s nearly New Year. Rip is going to be unavailable until at least then, you know he likes to celebrate it a week early.”

“Then let me go see him after New Year’s Tommy. We can easily get him to agree to it, he’s a legend with connections still in this place and you know he just wants his son to be as big as well.”

That’s when his face really frowned. See if you didn’t already know this Rip Chord’s son, well him and Mickey Starr’s grandson were easily the two biggest pricks this side of the world (Emerald Angel being the Japanese version if everything you read is true). Bar fights despite them not supposed to being in there, cheating on women they already used to cheat on someone else, behaviour that nearly got them put in jail last month. These two and Jay especially were quite easily the worst type of youth in wrestling, the polluting kind.

“We cannot offer that jackass a contract Trace. You know what he does to Locker Rooms”

“Tommy, you said I could bring in whoever I wanted...” I tried saying that with such a jokey sound that surely he couldn’t be mad... “Worst comes to worst, the guy is a bit of a loner, it means we can keep him out the way of trouble, it’s just outside the locker room he needs a eye kept on him.”

Tommy just looked at me and nodded. There were no real words he could say, he knew the talent that Jay had and the potential his future could see but we just needed to sort everything out. I stood up to go and make some phone calls stopped at the door by his booming voice once again.

“One more thing Trace, well two actually. Sam wants a tag team brought in; I don’t think you need to ask who.”

I stuck my thumb up to Tommy before continuing my walk forward. Next week was gonna be rather busy.

I find it really ironic that someone named SWF Fan would run a TCW diary!! Good luck with this though and I hope you go far.:D

Hey its nearly as ironic as Eisen-Verse only now getting around to the SWF so there :p

But nah TCW 2010 seems to have more for me than SWF. SWF lost Elmo who was my favourite character in the game, its Rsique and Cult levels are messing up a lot of my games for a promotion that because of its TV deal you can't go above medium risk on angles  and then TCW has a Sammy Bach who I always love writing for, now has Elmo, Josh Taylor and most of all Joey Minnesota is still a prick :)

So yeah TCW seems to have more for me to write for than SWF right now and that's how the diary came about. It was this or a DaVE revival that would've taken too much database changes to make work so on with the Total-ness :)

“How’s the head Mister Chord?”

You could just look in his bleary eyes and that answer would solve itself, this man may have battled alcohol addiction in the past but when it came to throwing a party he definitely knew how to throw one.

It was Rip Chord tradition. The final week before New Year and Chord would hold 7 days of intense, nonstop partying for just about everyone he knew in the industry, epically insane would be the best way to put it.

This was day 4 and Chord’s age was already showing. His eyes bleary, his hair tangled, his face contorted...really was it the best idea putting a meeting now...from my standpoint yes, Tommy would probably disagree but right now I think my idea works better

“Son, I’ll give you a word of advice and never, ever, ever forget it. Mixing tequila and rum in a litre of drink is quite possibly the best start to a 7 AM drinking session ever...”

And he’s lived this long how exactly?

“So son, you’re here for a reason, let’s make this quick, my party appears to be quieting down outside...”

Did I mention this meeting was at the bar Rip owned? A small, run down, old bar that currently had about 100 people drinking the place dry. For about another hour and then the refill is arriving. I just looked at him before reaching down to my side and pulling up a contract.

“Mr Chord, on behalf of Mr Cornell and the TCW Executives we would like to make your fine promotion the offer of a lifetime and take over as our developmental facility”

I pushed the contract across to him...he looked at it, looked at me, grabbed the whisky by his side, drank that, coughed, looked at me again and then coughed again.

“What’s in it for us?”

I had his drunk attention, excellent.

“Well there’s the chance for you to work with the future of wrestling, just like you always wanted to do with Mid Atlantic; stick it to Rich Eisen a bit” He laughed. Thank god. “You get the chance to have a foothold in some people’s legacies...like your own son”

“Ah he’s such a good kid isn’t he?”

I looked at him puzzled for a moment.

“Was he not in the back of a police car when I arrived?”

Rip smiled.

“Good kid, not smart, but still a good kid”

“If you bail him out in time Rip, like if you remember too, we want to talk to him about a contract too. The chance to start his legacy with us.”

He just nodded and sank another whisky...where the hell is he getting this from?

“Sure thing kid, so where do I sign?”

I pointed out the line, he missed it, then again finally got it on the third attempt. All the while sinking more whisky, is the deal still intact if the owner dies before its official?

“Now if you’ll excuse me kid, must get back to my party...”

He pulled up a bottle of whisky as he lifted himself from his chair. The bottle was full, I’m not even going to ask. More so to the point...the stain on the front of his trousers.

“Mr Chord, I do believe you may have pissed yourself...”

He looked down for a moment before laughing.

“Of course I have son....THESE ARE MY PISSING PANTS!”

With that....it’s time to go. And Tommy said I was stupid contacting him before New Year. I made a note of passing Jay my calling card as I strolled past his patrol car. Back off to L.A. I go.

Trace Power

I surveyed the room around me, this office was a hell of a lot larger than the old one they had cramped me in for what seemed like for ever. Tommy was understandably happy that Rip had signed on the dotted line for the help with our future, he seemed happy enough with the guys I had the intention of signing. As long as they didn't cost too much and they had some form of future then they were good enough for him.

There's a office worker outside, removing Joel's name from the door and placing mine up there. It feels almost...symbolic in nature to me, a changing of the guard and a look to the future.

What's next for me? January, my first real day in the job, the begining of contract talks...and once again meeting my roster who knows who's the boss now.

With some of the personalities there...that'll be...fun.

Sorry theres only another post now, summer with the friends ended up in me kinda drinking Friday and spending most of Saturday lay on a field relaxing so haven't been at a laptop much. Probably another post tonight, then I should have a preview of the first card up tomorrow.

I finally got around to reading this and read the entire thing in one go. Great start, and everything Trace and Tommy said made perfect sense. I especially like the reasoning behind Sammy Bach's lack of push - when I read it I immediately saw how that would happen.

Keep up the good work! :D

Cheers man, the Sammy thing just seemed like perfect sense to me. The only way it could make more sense was to have Teddy Powell be some international superstar over in Japan making Sammy wish to be further pushed to match his rival.

But yeah the amount of planning I took on this every story has its own plot line really :)

Cheers for reading as well man

January 2010

Los Angeles, California

The flock of wrestlers swarmed upon me as I took my position next to Tommy, a few looks of confusion, some of acceptance and one or two of just plain arrogance. There were people backstage that felt they could do better with the job in hand, better than I could ever hope to achieve. It was my aim to prove them wrong, to prove the haters can’t touch me at all.

“Tommy, this is some sorta joke right son? He’s a scriptwriter for gawd’s sake!”

That voice, oh so familiar to my ears. Arnold Westberry was a man that achieved some stuff in wrestling, however feels he is the ultimate legend. That what he says is final, backstage he’s always been a somewhat good road agent, but the fact the man is a complete ass, doesn’t help him any little bit.

“Arnold, Trace has been here for so long, he knows this place better than anyone...”

Tommy Cornell. Defender of the scared...

“It’s good to finally have you on board Trace, means we can work together a bit better.”

Ricky Dale Johnson was the veteran of the locker room in hindsight, where Cornell had Hawkins; Johnson had Minnesota and as expected Joey sat down directly next to him. Hawkins was close by to us two as well, as expected.

“Thankyou Ricky, I don’t plan to change anything to radical while in charge, you all still have a job. You all still will be turning up early for shows and staying until the end...” *groans from around the room* “and you all still will be now getting catering backstage and some medical practitioners to look after you” *cheers from around the room*

Tommy turned to me and pulled me around whispering into my ear.

“How are we paying for this?”

My smile said it all.

“Well that change in style we talked about, is giving us a whole new boat load of sponsorship money man...”

He just nodded.

One thing caught my eye in the back of the room, a considerably large man in a suit looking at me and bearing a hole through my chest. Rocky must have heard through the grapevine that I wasn’t his biggest fan right now; I think he felt I was going to take it all away from him.

“THE SHOW PEOPLE!” everybody looked forward hoping to hear their name called for the first big show under my power.

“Main event tonight will be Tommy Cornell one on one with Joey Minnesota”

The room just nodded, good first call.

“Undercard; Sam Keith will face off with Benny Benson, Edd Stone will defend his All Action Title against Aaron Andrews...” I was stopped by the sound of Stone high fiving everyone around him.

“Finally Guide and Scout will face off with The Machines, Troy Tornado will face Danny Fonzarelli and Joshua Taylor will face Eddie Peak in non title action”

One name radiated around the room as not being on the card. You could tell he looked unhappy at it as well.

"What about the Champ Trace?”

The voice of Joel Bryant, sat at the back with the other two members of the Dark Guard; Steve Flash and Robert Oxford was radiant, booming and also looking to kill me it seemed.

“Rocky we are going to use in some angles this show...with him working the dark matches against you 3...in a gauntlet battle before the show”

I could see people’s hesitations, Rocky wasn’t a bad guy, but he needed some serious improvement until he could be champion in my eyes.

With that Tommy called the meeting to a close, and we began to prepare for the first show tomorrow night.

PREDICTION CARD:

Tommy Cornell vs Joey Minnesota

Troy Tornado vs Danny Fonzarelli

Sam Keith vs Benny Benson

Eddie Peak vs Joshua Taylor

Edd Stone vs Aaron Andrews

New Wave vs Machines
