The Minor Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm a complete computer amatuer so be patient but when i click for a spreadsheet i get a message ... 'Sorry, an unexpected error has occured while trying to access Excel, the spreadsheet view is unavailable' any idea why it would be unavailable? (I do have Excel).

It has to be Microsoft Office Excel, it doesn't work with open office or any other spreadsheet program.

To my knowledge, that message comes into play because it cannot connect to excel. Beyond that, go to the tech support page.

No way, except as mentioned in bios. To my knowledge, there isn't any game impact except perhaps Natural Faces get a bonus to marketability while Natural Heels get a bonus to Menace during character creation, but otherwise I haven't seen anything about it...

This is mostly a guess based on a few fighters i added to the DB (both natural faces and natural heels), but I think it influences how likely a fighter will say things like "X said he/she had huge respect for Y and predicts a tough fight and ultimate victory over Y" in pre-fight news stories as apposed to "X says they are absolutely better than Y in every way and they predict a dominant victory". If this is the case it's just fluff to add atmosphere to the game. Of course I could be wrong...it is just a guess.

What I did was, despite making the titles the instant I started the game, I held off making ANY champion for one year. It gave me time to get several good fighters in each division, and it allowed them to build up a record and a name base for GAMMA. Only after a calendar year did I put the #1 and #2 competitors in each division against each other, then had them fight for the respective belt.

I don't think the game really understands "legitimate" title wins (unless that's what the titles' prestige ratings are for), but what I do to keep the fans interested is that I refuse to give title shots to non-GAMMA fighters no matter how highly they're ranked. I recently poached Hassan Fezzik who of course is #1 P4P, but I still am not putting him in any title matches because I'm trying to build up his record first. I used to apply a four-match rule to potential champions, but I've started to make exceptions for guys who are already known in America (guys I've poached from XCC for example) or guys like Hassan who are so dominating that I feel I'm wasting time not pulling the trigger already.

The main reason I do this is because guys I poach sometimes are overrated to my company's roster strength. I poached Lefter Oktay from BCF, and his record at the time was like 18-0 and holding the title. However, putting him against my lower ranked guys, he started losing like crazy. He's been 1-4 since I poached him, and he fell off the P4P rankings (and I think the Heavyweight rankings) pretty quickly. If I had immediately set him up with a title shot, he definitely would have been beaten, and no one would have been interested in seeing the match.

So, in short, build up your fighters' records and name value first before worrying about title shots. I attempt to book title shots only for guys who a) have at least four fights with my company, win or lose, and b) guys who are rated as "Co-Main Event" or better for my Roster Analysis. Of course, wins help too: I don't give title shots to someone who is on a losing streak. James Foster in my universe has dropped four straight, so even though he's GAMMA's main draw and a solid main eventer, he's not getting a shot at his title again until he manages to string together some wins and get back on my company's rankings chart.

How does the P4P system work? I was testing it out and my fighter I made started with 0 rep and aura and all that, so anyways I put myself in a turning in Alpha-1. I beat Kunimichi Kikuchi then Armen Sarkisan and then Hassan Fezzik and I'm not even in the top HW's yet.

56% Reputation

57% Performance

100% Aura

Low Level National

I'm pretty sure the rankings rely heavily on reputation though, so go check the #25 HW and see what his reputation is... if it's above 56% there you go. 56% isn't really all that high tbh, it's decent but not guarenteed top 25 (as you know). Probably beating those three fighters should boost his rep a little bit more, but other then that it shouldn't take more then another couple fights to get him near the top of the rankings.

got a commercial rating problem.

For UFC 128 I made some nice matches:

Anderson Silva vs. Marquards (fans accept this as main event)

Edgar vs. Gomi (co-main)

Couture vs. Jon Jones (co-main)

Koscheck vs. Hughes (co-main)

Lesnar vs. Rothwell (undercard)

and commercial rating was only decent. is it normal? should I try sth with hype options? I'd like CR be at least good. thanks.

Did you rise in popularity by a level (like Mid Level Int'l to High Level Int'l) between when you booked the show and when it took place? That would account for it.

The improvements from camps come over time, as with any training.

Yes but their stats can rise quicker, or to a higher level.

A small question for mod-makers:

When you set the 'potential' stat of all fighters to 50, can they still reach heights of 90+ in skill level? It seems to me that some fighters with potential -50 can still get 85% on stats, coming all the way from -70. So is it possible? It would make a much more consistent game, given some fighters excel one game and suck the other.
