STRIKEFORCE MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

----------------------------------------------------------

OOC: I shall be using Modern Warriors 2 with the addition of some small adjustments to a few things such as ethnicity, walking weight, UFC Fight for the Troops results added, etc (nothing major). I have also added a few fighters to the Strikeforce roster that have featured recently (Spiritwolf, Healy, Cash, Cholish etc.) and have added duplicate versions of my TV shows, (Strikeforce Challengers/on Showtime/on CBS) This was done to prevent me having to wait until i finish an event before i can schedule another.

Due to the limited depth of the Strikeforce roster, I won't be booking preliminary fights on my 'major' shows (at least not initially) however i will be running more Challenger series events in order to feature the lesser-known fighters/fighters on losing streaks etc.

TITLE SHOT ON THE LINE FOR 'MAYHEM' MILLER

It appears that pride won't be the only thing on the line when bitter rivals Nick Diaz & Jason 'Mayhem' Miller meet at an upcoming Strikeforce event, as Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker revealed today that Miller will earn the next shot, and a third meeting, against middleweight champion Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza, if he is able to defeat Nick Diaz in San Jose in 2 weeks time, and according to Scott Coker, the decision wasn't a hard one to make.

"There is a few guys at 185 that are in contention for a title shot right now but when you consider that Nick Diaz is our welterweight champion, It's really a pretty obvious solution that if Miller is able to win that fight, then he deserves the next shot at 'Jacare'." Scott Coker said during the interview.

As for the future of the current Strikeforce welterweight champion beyond this fight? Well Coker wasn't forthcoming with an explanation, however it is expected that win, lose or draw, Nick Diaz will return to the 170-pound weight class and possibly await the winner of a rumored bout between Paul Daley and Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos.

Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Miller Preview

STRIKEFORCE: DIAZ vs. MILLER PREVIEW WITH MAURO RANALLO AND STEPHEN QUADROS

Mauro Ranallo - Hello i'm Mauro Ranallo and thank you for joining me here for this special preview show on Showtime as we look ahead to this weekends 'Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Miller' event. And joining me to break down the card will be 'The Fight Professor' Stephen Quadros, and Stephen the fight between Nick Diaz and Jason 'Mayhem' Miller has been talked about for a long time now and after several months of back-and-forth discussions, it will finally happen but only after Nick Diaz agreed to move outside of his regular weight class and fight at 185 for the very first time in his career. Do you believe that the move to middleweight will play any factor in this fight giving that, we presume, Miller will be much bigger than Diaz once they step into the cage?

Stephen Quadros - Well Mauro you pose an interesting question and i do believe that Miller will be the stronger of the two, however i don't think that it will necessarily be a factor if Diaz is able to keep the fight standing. But if Miller can clinch with Diaz or even get the fight to the ground then his size advantage may just prove to be the difference between him winning or losing this fight.

Mauro Ranallo - Well that brings me to my next point, just who has the advantage on the ground? I mean does Miller even want to go to the ground with Diaz, who is of course a Gracie black belt?

Stephen Quadros - Well lets not forget that Miller is a black belt himself but i do believe that Diaz is marginally better on the ground in terms of pure jiu-jitsu. however Miller did manage to survived on the ground in two previous bouts with 'Jacare' and in a five round battle with Jake Shields, both of whom are considerably better than Diaz on the ground in my opinion, so i don't expect Diaz to be able to submit Miller on the ground and whilst i do not see Miller submitting Diaz either, i do believe that he could control Nick on the ground while avoiding any submission attempts from his opponent.

Mauro Ranallo - Alright well the co-main event will see Marloes Coenen, who submitted Sarah Kaufman to win the Strikeforce women's welterweight title in October of last year, take on the number one contender Miesha 'Takedown' Tate, who earned the title shot after beating Maiju Kujala and Hitomi Akana in the one night single elimination women's tournament in August, and Stephen who do you believe holds the advantage in this championship bout?

Stephen Quadros - Well Mauro in my opinion this will be a very close fight mainly because i don't believe that either girl holds a significant advantage over the other. However if i was to choose between the two i would have to favor the challenger only because i believe that Miesha Tate will be able to use her wrestling to dictate where this fight goes and as we saw in her fight with Akano, she has very good submission defense, which may be needed in order to neutralize Coenen's offensive submissions if this fight goes to the ground.

Mauro Ranallo - Well we shall see if Miesha Tate can indeed capture the Strikeforce women's 135-pound title, but that's not the only intriguing bout on the card as inexperienced, yet highly decorated BJJ practisioner, Roger Gracie takes on MMA veteran Trevor Prangley in a light heavyweight contest, and Stephen alot of MMA fans that i have spoken to believe that Prangley may prove to have too much experience for Roger Gracie at this point in his career, do you share those opinions?

Stephen Quadros - I definitely feel like this will be Roger's toughest test so far in his relatively short MMA career but in order to get to the levels that Roger has reached in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you have to have an incredible level of self-discipline and mental toughness, and it's those traits that will ensure that Roger does not try and trade punches with Prangley so i expect him to look for the takedown almost immediately and if he does succeed in getting Trevor to the ground then surely it will only be a matter of time before he locks up a submission.

Mauro Ranallo - Well lets not forget that Prangley is a very good wrestler himself so it certainly will be interesting to see if Roger Gracie can get this fight to the ground. Elsewhere on the card, the former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will look to put an end to his three fight losing streak as he takes on Valentijn Overeem, who is of course the older sibling of current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, and Stephen this could very well be the most important fight in Arlovski's storied career as a defeat here at the hands of Valentijn could very well spell the end of his MMA career.

Stephen Quadros - Well if Arlovski loses this fight Mauro then i really can't see where he would go next. And it's important to note that Arlovski hasn't won in over 2 years so he will no doubt be under alot of pressure coming into this fight and although many people will look at Valentijn's record and immediately label him as a journeyman so to speak, the fact that he trains at Golden Glory alone should tell you that this guy is a very good striker and the one thing about Arlovski that has been questioned throughout his entire career is his ability to take a punch so if Overeem is able to catch him then you never know what can happen in this sport.

Mauro Ranallo - Well we shall see if Arlovski can indeed get back into the win column. But the first fight on the card will see unbeating Lyle Beerbohm return to the Strikeforce cage to take on a man who holds over 40 fights, despite being just 28 years old, Pat 'Bam Bam' Healy. So Stephen do you think that Healy has the ability to cause an upset and end Beerhohm's undefeated streak of 14 fights?

Stephen Quadros - Well i think that Beerbohm is rightfully the favourite but Healy absolutely has a chance to win this fight Mauro. There's no doubt that Lyle Beerbohm has looked great in his MMA career so far but i don't believe that he has faced a guy with the resume or experience of Pat Healy so i believe that a win here for Beerhohm will no doubt propel him up the lightweight ladder.

Mauro Ranallo - Alright well before we close out this special preview show here on Showtime, i'm joined by the Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, and Scott after a great event in December when we were treated to some truly amazing knockouts, how excited are you for this weekend's card as Nick Diaz and 'Mayhem' Miller finally get it on?

Scott Coker - I'm very excited for this card! We believe 2011 will be a big year for Strikeforce and hopefully this weekend will be the start of big things to come for us.

Mauro Ranallo - Alright well from myself, Stephen Quadros and Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, thank you for joining us for this special preview show. Be sure to tune in this weekend as Strikeforce presents: Diaz vs. Miller live on Showtime Sports.

STRIKEFORCE: DIAZ vs. MILLER

Mauro Ranallo - Hello i'm Mauro Ranallo, thank you for joining me here from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California as Strikeforce presents a huge night of mixed martial arts, as current Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz moves up to middleweight for the very first time in his MMA career to take on top-ranked middleweight contender and long-time rival Jason "Mayhem" Miller.

Joining me for tonight's broadcast as always is the MMA legend Frank Shamrock, and Frank as someone who has had the opportunity to fight Nick Diaz in the past, what do you believe makes him a danger to his opponent tonight?

Frank Shamrock - Well Mauro, Nick Diaz is a dangerous opponent not just for 'Mayhem' Miller but for anyone in this sport and the reason for that is because he is so well-rounded! His striking has improved dramatically over the years and he has a ground game as good as anyone's in the sport. However Miller is very capable on the ground himself and considering how well he handled Jake Shields on the ground, i don't think that Diaz will want to take the risk of getting involved in a grappling match with Miller, so i expect Diaz to stay on the outside, use his striking and put a beating on "Mayhem" Miller tonight.

Mauro Ranallo - Also joining us tonight is arguably the greatest trainer the sport has ever seen and former UFC welterweight champion, "The Croatian Sensation" Pat Miletich, and Pat as someone who has watched Jason "Mayhem" Miller fight numerous times in the past, where do you believe the biggest advantage for Miller lies in this fight with Diaz?

Pat Miletich - Well Mauro as Frank said, Diaz is an extremely skilled individual and there's not many areas of a fight where you would say Diaz is at a significant disadvantage. However the one thing that Miller is much better at than Diaz, is wrestling and i believe that he will look to use that, along with the size and strength advantage that he will no doubt have in this fight, in order to control Diaz on the ground.

Mauro Ranallo - Alright well that of course is our main event of the evening but before we get to that we have 4 other big fights on the card tonight including Dutch submission specialist Marloes Coenen defending the Strikeforce women's 135-pound title vs. Miesha Tate, Grappling guru Roger Gracie vs. MMA veteran Trevor Prangley and former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski vs. Golden Glory product Valentijn Overeem.

But our first bout of the evening will be undefeated lightweight prospect Lyle Beerbohm vs. Pat 'Bam Bam' Healy, and it's now time to head inside the cage for the official introductions with Jimmy Lennon, Jr.

----------------------------------------------------------

(14-0) Lyle Beerbohm vs. Pat Healy (25-17)

ROUND 1

The first bout of the evening gets underway and with just 8 seconds on the clock, Beerbohm lands a crazy flying knee which backs a very dazed Healy up and he looks badly hurt but Beerbohm doesn't take advantage as he opts to take the fight to the mat. Beerbohm throws several strikes which don't quite connect on Healy but they are enough of a distraction for the undefeated fighter to pass to mount and with half the round remaining, Healy is in a world of trouble as Beerbohm locks up the armbar and forces his opponent to tap inside the very first round.

OFFICIAL DECISION

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Ladies and gentleman we have the time of 3:08 in round number 1, an armbar ends this contest as the fighter taps out, he is the winner by way of submission and still undefeated, LYLE 'FANCY PANTS' BEERBOHM!

----------------------------------------------------------

From Amsterdam, Holland introducing the MMA veteran, VALENTIJN 'THE PYTHON' OVEREEM!

(15-8) Andrei Arlovski vs. Valentijn Overeem (28-25)

ROUND 1

The fight gets underway with Andrei Arlovski landing a nice kick to the lead leg of Overeem then mixes things up with a nice combination to the body then the head followed by a takedown attempt which Overeem has no answer for and it only gets worse for the Golden Glory fighter as Arlovski works to side control and secures an armbar which successfully forces Overeem to tap.

OFFICIAL DECISION

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Ladies and gentleman we have the time of 2:45 in round number 1, an armbar ends this contest as the fighter taps out, he is the winner by way of submission, ANDREI ARLOVSKI!

----------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Alright fans here we go as Strikeforce and Showtime present 3 five minute rounds in a lightweight special attraction.

Introducing to you first on my left, fighting out of the blue corner, raised in the traditions of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, his record includes 3 wins, no losses with all 3 wins coming by way of submission. Fighting out of London, England by way of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, please welcome the golden child of MMA's first family, introducing, ROGER GRACIE!

And his opponent across the cage, fighting out of the red corner, with an acclaimed background in wrestling, his record stands at 23 wins, 6 loses and 1 draw with 4 knockouts and 9 submissions to his credit. Fighting out of San Jose, California by way of Capetown, South Africa, introducing MMA's accomplished veteran, TREVOR PRANGLEY!

(3-0) Roger Gracie vs. Trevor Prangley (23-6-1

ROUND 1

The referee gets the fight started and it's a pretty slow start to this contest as Prangley stays on the outside waiting on Roger Gracie to commit and after a long feeling out process, Gracie does finally commit, looking to close the distance on Prangley and rather surprisingly the South American seems happy to oblige by clinching up with the Gracie black belt. Prangley looks to muscle Gracie towards the cage but ultimately loses position and after an initial takedown is thwarted by Prangley, it's not long before Gracie gets the trip and Prangley has to pull guard. We head into the final minute of the round with Prangley doing a great job of keeping Roger inside his guard without taking any damage or being threatened by submissions.

ROUND 2

Round number 2 gets underway and surprisingly Prangley looks to clinch with Gracie but perhaps even more surprising is that Gracie denies it and seems happy to stay at distance for the time being. Prangley appears to look over to his corner, perhaps an indication that Gracie's gameplan here in the 2nd round has came as a surprise to him. Finally with half the round gone, Gracie shoots on Prangley, but the wrestler stuffs it but has to settle for being pushed up against the cage. Prangley does a good job of getting double-underhooks and manages to back Gracie up against the cage and uses all of his experience to shut down the BJJ black belt against the fence for almost 2 minutes before the referee brings them back to the center of the cage. Gracie immediately dives for a single leg but Prangley shakes it off easily and manages to lock Roger up in a muay thai clinch but no strikes are landed as the round ends.

ROUND 3

With the 3rd and final round about to get underway, will Gracie be able to get going again or was the 2nd round a sign of this fight turning in the favor of Prangley? Well again here in the 3rd round it's Prangley that is initiating the clinch and he manages to back Gracie up against the cage once again and Roger looks completely exhausted here. Prangley makes a minor error which results in Gracie taking control of the clinch against the cage and he keeps Prangley there for about a minute before Prangley regains the upper hand and it results in another minute of stiffling action and the referee has seen enough as he brings them back to the center of the cage for the remaining 60 seconds of this fight. It's Prangley who initiates the takedown but not only does Roger Gracie avoid the takedown but he manages to wrestle Prangley to the floor himself and that could be huge for Gracie as he ends the fight inside Prangley's guard.

OFFICIAL DECISION

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Ladies and gentleman after 3 rounds of action we have a split decision, here are the score totals. Judges at ringside score the contest 30-27, 28-29 and 29-28, in favor of the winner and still undefeated, ROGER GRACIE!

----------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Alright fans here we go as Strikeforce and Showtime present 5 five minute rounds for the Strikeforce women's world welterweight championship.

Introducing to you first the challenger, fighting out of the blue corner, with a background in wrestling and jiu-jitsu, her record includes 11 wins and 2 losses, with 3 of her wins coming by way of knockout and 4 by submission. From Yelm, Washington, please welcome the challenger, MIESHA 'TAKEDOWN' TATE!

And her opponent across the cage, the defending champion fighting out of the red corner, a submission specialist with a background in shooto, her record stands at 18 wins, 4 loses with 12 of her wins coming by way of submissions. From Amsterdam, Holland, please welcome the current Strikeforce women's world welterweight champion, MARLOES COENEN!

(11-2) Marloes Coenen © vs. Miesha Tate (18-4)

ROUND 1

The women's 135-pound championship bout gets underway with both fighters exchanging strikes before the champion shoots in for the takedown which is successful as Tate pulls guard. Coenen can't pass the guard of Miesha Tate and it's the challenger who's controlling this position despite being on her back as she lands some nice shots to the head of Coenen then manages to stand back up using the cage for support as we head for the halfway point in the round. Still trapped against the cage, Tate can't get her balance and is once again dumped on her back by the champion, however Tate again uses the cage to get back to her feet and does finally take control of Coenen in the clinch but it's far to late in the round as the bell goes.

ROUND 2

Round 2 begins with the challenger working over the champion with some nice combinations and as they clinch in close, Tate lands some nice short punches before controlling Coenen up against the fence. After being on the backfoot for the whole of this round so far, Coenen finally comes alive with a trip takedown which results in Tate pulling guard for the third time tonight but this time Coenen finds success in passing the guard as she secures half guard and looks to lock up an arm triangle but it's defended easily by Miesha Tate and she uses the opportunity to get her guard back but she does end the round on the bottom and that could be enough to make the judges forget all of Tate's good work at the beginning of the round.

ROUND 3

Coenen lands a solid left hand at the start of the 3rd round as Tate throws a lazy leg kick which gives Coenen the opportunity to work for another takedown, but Tate manages to defend it this time and defends another shortly afterwards, perhaps a sign that Coenen is fading? Both fighters look to engage in the pocket but it's Tate who drops down for her first takedown attempt of the fight but it's an unsuccessful one and it could prove very costly as Coenen not only uses her opponents momentum to wrestle her to the mat but manages to take her back! Coenen looks to get both hooks in but Tate does a good job defending against it as we head into the second half of this round. Coenen works to flatten out Miesha Tate, looking for the choke and initially it proves a struggle but in the end Marloes Coenen proves once again that she is no joke on the ground as she forces the tap by rear naked choke.

OFFICIAL DECISION

Jimmy Lennon, Jr. - Ladies and gentleman we have the time of 3:07 in round number 3, a rear naked choke ends this contest as the fighter taps out, she is the winner by way of submission, and still the Strikeforce women's welterweight champion of the world, MARLOES COENEN!

(23-7-1 NC) Nick Diaz vs. Jason Miller (24-7)

ROUND 1

The long-awaited grudge match is finally on as 'Big' John McCarthy gets things started as Diaz comes out right away thowing typical Diaz-like combinations but Miller fires back with a sharp kick to the shin followed by one to the body. The first takedown attempt of the fight comes from the Strikeforce welterweight champion as Diaz shoots on Miller but it's unsuccessful and Diaz has to settle for keeping Miller at bay with his jab. A right jab by Diaz is countered by a barrage of big right hands and 'Mayhem' Miller drops Nick Diaz! Miller is not wasting any time here as he hammers down blow after blow after blow on his opponent and Diaz is eating shots that he really shouldn't be taking as he's clearly out already and finally 'Big' John McCarthy does indeed step in to stop the fight.

If you thought that was weird then wait til you see there next card.. Shields (#3) vs. Alves (#4) on the prelims!

I watching the play-by-play for this event, as i will be for all UFC events, and i thought Palhares was going to win based on the commentary i was reading.

I wanna see where Henderson goes after that loss, I mean losing a UD to a pretty much no-name in the first prelim of the night after being champion is something that'll make a career go down quick, he might be in Strikeforce by the nd of the year if this keeps up, which would be a great look for your lightweight division.

And with that in mind once again where does Curt go Im guessing high prelims (for story reasons "spike prelims") against a ranked opponent.

Fodor is turning this into a very frustrating night for Warren as he can't land anything as a left jab then a body kick hit nothing but air. However with a minute to go in the round Fodor tries to come forward and gets dropped by a sudden right hook and Warren is looking to finish as he starts to pound away, but Fodor regains his wits about him and recovers half guard but immediately has to defend against an arm triangle, which he does impressively as the clock runs down.

ROUND 2

Round 2 gets underway with Fodor's corner telling there man to take this fight to the ground, but can he get it there? Well with just 12 seconds gone in the round the answer is yes as a wayward low kick from Warren is countered by his opponent and he has to pull guard. Nothing really happens before Warren does well to push Fodor away and tries to get back to his feet but Fodor doesn't allow him and pounces on hIm looking to maintain position, but Warren is too quick and scrambles to side control! Fodor does well to transition to half guard but again has to defend against an arm triangle, which he does.Warren looks to pass to side control but makes a technical error and gets caught in a guillotine by Fodor, but Warren won't tap and Fodor has no choice to release the hold as his arms get tired! Warren tries again to pass the guard of his opponent but instead allows his opponent to lock onto an arm which Fodor uses to sweep his opponent and now Fodor gets side control as Warren appears to be tiring and it results in Fodor taking his back with ease, but the round ends before he could take advantage.

ROUND 3

The 3rd and final round begins with's Fodor looking to get in close and turn this into a wrestling match but Warren does well to keep him at distance. However Warren now comes inside looking to attack but they both fall into a messy clinch which Fodor takes advantage by pushing Warren up against the cage and show's excellent control to keep him there for the rest of the round whilst keeping busy with short strikes to the body to avoid the referee seperating them.
