Ultimate Fighting Championships 8: David vs Goliath

Local promoter for this his historical first and only professional mixed martial arts event was Richy Miranda-Cortese, whose company Sports & Entertainment Ltd had to take local Government officials to Federal Court in order to avoid cancellation of the event by the Government. Among those government officials was Governor Pedro Rosello and Sports and Recreation Director Erick Labrador. The presentation of the event developed into a new boxing commission rules and regulations and Imposition of a banning Law that was later overturned after Miranda-Cortese fought it in court.

So we are lucky to even be getting a show at all, and the event also became the first MMA event to draw criticism, and includied local politician Calvin McCard’s on site protests.

On to the show ...

Fight 1,

Andy 'The Hammer' Anderson (Tae Kwon Do) (2-1) vs 'Nasty' Zane Frasier (Karate) (1-1)

The Hammer was a full foot shorter than Frasier in this the opening fight of the UFC's mis-match event. Andy Anderson showed just why they call him the Hammer with a massive Right just 30 seconds into the fight which not only floored his opponant, but Knocked him Out.

Winner Via Knock Out (Punch) Andy Anderson in 0:37 (Good).

Tournament;

Fight 2,

Asbel Cancio (Wing Tsun Kung Fu) (1-1) vs 'The Polar Bear' Paul Varelans (Trapfighting) (1-0)

We had a 10 inch difference here and a massive 75lbs weight difference but will the smaller man once again win!? The fight was little more than a sloppy boxing match and went long with Varelans hitting an Uppercut that finally floored Cancio after 16 minutes.

Winner Via Knock Out (Punch) Paul Varelans in 16:54 (Average).

Fight 3,

'The Biting Yoshiki' Kazuo Takahashi (PANCRASEism) (6-3) vs 'The Giant with Attitude' Jon Hess (SAFTA) (2-0)

With the David vs Goliath aspects of the night beeing tied at 1 win each highly rated Kazuo Takahashi (from Pancrase) is 9 inches smaller and 90lbs lighter than his giant opponant. Again we see little more than a boxing match but this one goes right to the end.

Winner Via Judges decision Kazuo Takahashi after 30 minutes (Poor).

Fight 4,

'The Japanese Sensation' Akihiro Gono (Judo) (1-1) vs 'Big Daddy' Gary Goodridge (Kuk Soo Won) (0-0)

After the judges decision last fight the Davids are leading the series. We finally see someone work the ground game and it's the smaller man Akihiro Gono who takes down Gary Goodridge but after awhile where noone can take advantage the ref has to stand them both up. Goodridge floors Gono with a straight right and he rains punches down un his fallen opponant but Gono servives the onslaught. Gono soon takes advantage on the ground and he forces the 'Goliath' to tap.

Winner Via Submission (Triangle) Akihiro Gono in 22:38 (Great).

Fight 5,

Joe Son (Joe Son Do) (0-1) vs Don Frye (Wrestling) (0-0)

9 inches seperate the two men but the smaller Joe Son is actually the heavier fighter, being 21lbs heavier than Don Frye. Several heavy right hands stun Joe Son and he falls to the ground getting destroyed and the blows just keep on landing leaving the referee no option but to pull Frye away, stopping the match!

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Don Frye in 12:53 (Very Poor).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Fight 6,

'The Biting Yoshiki' Kazuo Takahashi (PANCRASEism) (7-3) vs 'The Polar Bear' Paul Varelans (Trapfighting) (2-0)

Varelans is 95lbs and 10 inches bigger than Takahashi. Varelans has Takahashi trapped up against the cage and takes him down before standing back up, the Polar Bear wants the fight on his feet. Varelans once again takes down Takahashi but this time he goes down with him and lays a few punches on his opponant but Takahashi push Varelans away and the fight once again goes standing. An enormous Right from Kazuo Takahashi puts Varelans out.

Winner Via Knock Out (Punch) Kazuo Takahashi in 18:34 (Good).

Fight 7,

Don Frye (Wrestling) (1-0) vs 'The Japanese Sensation' Akihiro Gono (Judo) (2-1)

The first 6 minutes of the fight saw both men testing the waters and trying to take the other man down until Frye lands a solid right hand that sent Gono down to the ground. Frye tries an Armbar but Gono just wont let it happen, and he stacks up some punches before gaining side control he rolls Frye over .. And slips behind and he gets both hooks in, seems primed to finish.

Winner Via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Akihiro Gono in 8:23 (Great).

Tournament Final;

Fight 8,

'The Japanese Sensation' Akihiro Gono (Judo) (3-1) vs 'The Biting Yoshiki' Kazuo Takahashi (PANCRASEism) (8-3)

The Tournament final sees the 168lb Gono take on the 205lb Takahashi in a Judo versus Pancrase fight between two Japanese fighters. A takedown battle takes over the first 7/8 minutes until Gono takes down Takahashi and soon he has an Armbar locked in.

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Akihiro Gono in 9:00 (Decent).

Main Event - "The Superfight"

'The Worlds most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock (Shoot Fighting) (10-2) vs 'The Sandman' Guy Mezger (Kick Boxing) (3-2)

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/KenShamrock.gifhttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/versus.jpghttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/GuyMezger.gif

Mezger tries to throw strikes from the pocket but Shamrock counters with a Takedown and another after he fails to capitalise with that one and another ... And soon an Armbar is locked in.

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Ken Shamrock in 17:23 (Poor).

Ultimate Fighting Championships 9: Octagon Madness!

The UFC drew national criticism leading up to the event, due in large part to Arizona Senator John McCain's letter writing campaign against the "brutal spectacle" of no holds barred fighting. After a legal battle in the Detroit courts up until 4:30 p.m. on the day of the show, the UFC was allowed to continue, but with modified rules.

The special rules included no closed fisted strikes to the head and no headbutts – a rule that referee John McCarthy attempted to enforce, but with little success. Before the show, fighters were warned not to use closed fisted strikes under penalty of arrest. Although many fights included closed fisted striking, no fighters were arrested.

With that said, on to the show.

Fight 1,

Masakatsu Funaki (Catch Wrestling) (7-1) vs (0-1) (Kempo) Rudyard Moncayo

Alot of circling and attempted takedowns, these two really wanted to go to ground and it was Funaki who sweeps the legs of Rudyard Moncayo taking him down, hard. Funaki soon locks in the Armbar, and it's deep enough that Moncayo has to tap!

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Masakatsu Funaki in 12:45 (Average).

Fight 2,

Onassis Parungao (Tong Kong Kung Fu) (0-1) vs (0-1) (Karate) Sean Dougherty

Two guys coming off of loses, Kung Fu versus Karate. The fighters are similier in size. Daugherty wastes no time taking down Parungao after he missed a right head kick right off the start Daugherty was in half guard within 6 seconds of the fight starting Daugherty couldn't get an arm and so threw some punches, did the ref stop the fight early!?

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Sean Daugherty in 6:46 (Great).

Fight 3,

Amaury Bittti (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) (4-3) vs (0-1) (Tae Kwon Do) Cal Worsham

Bitetti puts the charging Worsham down within the first 30 seconds. Bitetti twice tries to lock in the Rear Naked Choke but Worsham breaks away and soon they are back on their feet and wham! A huge right from Bitetti Knocks Worsham out.

Winner Via Knock Out (Punch) Amaury Bitetti in 22:55 (Great).

Fight 4,

Alberta Cerra Leon (Boxing) (2-1) vs (4-1) (Kickboxing) Maurice 'Mo' Smith

Leon counters a missed left jab to put Mo down with a barrage of rights, Leon senses victory and rains down the punches but the strikes are soon stopped when Mo manages to pull Leon down into side control after some battling for control on the ground Leon attemts an Armbar .. But fails to lock it in strong enough and Mo brakes the hold. When the fighters are stood back up Mo walks right into a huge close range right from Leon.

Winner Via Knock Out (Punch) Alberta Cerra Leon in 18:44 (Decent).

Post-Fight: Mo confirms that he was ill in the run up to this fight, but refuses to blame the loss on that, instead giving credit to his opponant.

Fight 5,

'Freek' Hamaker (Sambo) (6-4) vs (8-4) (Pancraseism) 'The Biting Yoshiki' Kazou Takahashi

Freek is back and he takes on a Japanese Pancrase fighter in Kazuo Takahashi who is shorter than his opponent but carries an extra 20lbs. This is one of 3 fights that the UFC have been hyping for the last month or so. A Rear Naked Choke from Freek shows just what a top class fighter he is becoming.

Winner Via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Freek Hamaker in 6:52 (Decent).

Fight 6,

'El Guapo' Bas Rutten (Hybrid Fighting) (8-2) vs (7-3) (Wrestling) 'The Beast' Dan Severn

Another big one alot of hype surrounds these two fighters and many are suggesting that whomever wins this should get the next shot at the UFC Superfight Championship. Severn has Rutten down within the first minute of the fight big elbows are unloaded from Dan Severn and one of them opens up a cut on Bas Rutten, Severn tries for quite some time to lock in the Rear Naked Choke on Bas Rutten but he finally manages to roll them and he gets the back of the Beast and adds insult to injury by locking in a Rear Naked Choke of his own.

Winner Via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Bas Rutten in 14:06 (Excellent).

Main Event - The Superfight.

'The King of The Streets' Marco Ruas (Ruas Vale Tudo) (6-0-1) vs (11-2) (Shoot Fighting) 'The Worlds most Dangerous man' Ken Shamrock

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/MarcoRuas.jpghttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/versus.jpghttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/KenShamrock.gif

If we believe the UFC this fight will be a cracker, hopefully a Rutten vs Severn cracker and not a Freek vs Takahashi cracker. Shamrock is the more aggressive in the opening minutes and takesdown Ruas and he battles away seizing the opportunity his opponent is too slow and can do no more than turtle up has Shamrock gets on top pounding away and Marco Ruas is in trouble and the referee pulls Shamrock away and that has to be called a controversial finish Ruas may have been in trouble but he was still clearly active and trying to defend himself his corner are livid.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Ken Shamrock in 6:00 (Poor).

Ultimate Fighting Championships 10: The Tournament!

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/UFC10.gif

After their brief flirtation with holding a straight ahead card of all predetermined match ups, they returned to the traditional tournament structure. I do not know if leaving the tournament style event was another side effect of all the problems they had in the courts, The return to the tournament - as well as allowing punching to the face - did not mean that the UFC had gotten out of the political hot water they had been boiling in all year. John McCain may have failed getting UFC IX called off, but he learned from that loss and was taking a different tactic now. Using his political connections he was pressuring the PPV providers to dump the event, and with buy rates and revenues dropping a bit, they were more willing to listen than they may have been previously.

On to the event,

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Prelims.

Fight 1,

Anthony 'Mad Dog' Macias (Muay Thai) (0-1) vs (3-0-1) (Kick Boxing Hybrid) Lee Hasdell

The show kicks off with a dull one the so called Hybrid Striker Brit Lee Hasdell (or HasDull) faced Anthony Macias and both men did very little for 30:00 at times it felt like they were just too cautious.

Winner Via Judges Decision Anthony Macias (Very Poor).

Fight 2,

Scott Baker (Wing Chun) (0-1) vs (0-1) (Kung Fu) Thaddeus Luster

In this the battle of the two losers (sounds mean but the fighters have each had one fight and lost it so. Baker is backed against the Cage and takes a huge right his leg buckling as he does, he drops and Luster sees the opportunity and hits punch after punch forcing the ref to step in.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Thaddeus Luster in 6:56 (Average).

Fight 3,

David 'Tank' Abbott (Pit Fighting) (2-2) vs (0-1) (Sumo) Koji Kitao

Even though Tank stands 7 inches smaller (and nearly 130lbs less) he still has a better reach of 81" to Kitao's 76". The fight is barely a minute old when two big rights from Tank knock Kitao to the ground and he follows up with a barrage of strikes forcing the ref to step in and stop the fight.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Tank Abbott in 1:08 (Good).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

The Tournament.

Fight 4,

Johnny Rhodes (Karate) (5-1) vs (0-0) (Krav Maga) Moti Horenstein

Moti Horenstein controlled the fight for most of its over 20 minutes and attempted a variety of Submission holds that he possesses in his arsenal finally locking in an Arm Triangle.

Winner Via Submission (Arm Triangle) Moti Horestein in 21:59 (Decent).

Fight 5,

Hans Nijman (Hybrid Fighting) (5-0) vs (1-1) (Kuialua) John Matua

Matua is the biggest man in this events Tournament and weighs in at a scales busting 400lbs but an high Kick from Nijma connected and the big man is Knocked Out in what was a sweet kick.

Winner Via Knock Out (Kick) Hans Nijman in 9:09 (Good).

Fight 6,

Egan Inoue (Jiu-Jitsu) (4-2) vs (10-3-1) (Submission Fighting) Frank Shamrock

What will happen if Frank Shamrock wins this whole Tournament!? Will he face his brother Ken for the 'Superfight' Title? Well we may find out in what was a great fight Frank Shamrock showed superior ground skills to lock in an Armbar and he forced Inoue to tap.

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Frank Shamrock in 2:51 (Great).

Fight 7,

'The Ronin' Carlos Newton (Dragonball Jiu-Jitsu) (0-0) vs (1-0) (Kick Boxing) 'Hightower' Semmy Schilt

Semmy Schilt is an impressive looking specimen standing 6'11 and with a reach of 86" he will take some beating, and he did Newton did the right thing trying to takedown the much bigger man (and has the commentators pointed out everyones the same size on the ground). Newton managed to grab hold of Schilts leg and swiftly applied a Kneebar ... Schilt falls down and has to tap out!

Winner Via Submission (Kneebar) Carlos Newton in 27:30 (Decent).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Fight 8,

Melton 'The Punisher' Bowen (Boxing) (0-1) vs (0-0) (Pit Fighting) Steve Nelmark

A very quick knockdown and a very quick stoppage sees Melton Brown live up to his 'Punisher' nickname.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Melton 'The Punisher' Brown in 0:44 (Good).

Semi-Finals.

Fight 9,

Hans Nijman (Hybrid Fighting) (6-0) vs (1-0) (Krav Maga) Moti Horenstein

A grappling contest saw Nijmans spraw prove better than Horensteins takedown attempts and Nijman managed to force his opponent against the cage but struggles to maintain control and Horenstein catches an unsuspecting Nijman in a standing guillotine! Nijman cant escape the Guillotine, it's tight enough that he has to tap!

Winner Via Submission (Guillotine) Moti Horenstein in 20:38 (Average).

Fight 10,

'The Ronin' Carlos Newton (Dragonball Jiu-Jitsu) (1-0) vs (11-3-1) (Submission Fighting) Frank Shamrock

For most of the first 5 minutes of the fight the two men struggled for control against the cage wall and when they finally came out into the cage center Shamrock managed to take Newton to the ground and first fails with an Armbar before managing to get the back of Newton and lock in a Rear Naked Choke.

Winner Via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Frank Shamrock in 8:10 (Average).

Fight 11,

Royce Gracie (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) (9-0) vs (1-2) (Tae Kwon Do) Kimo Leopoldo

Royce Gracie doesn't quite have the strength to completely control Kimo who cant really use effective Strikes due to the tenacious grappling from Gracie. The two battle against the Cage wall with Kimo trying to throw knees but Gracie controlling the clinch after a while the ref has had enough and brings them back into the center (this is something Royce Gracie isn't used to from his original stint in the UFC). When Gracie finally take the exhausted Kimo down he locks in a Kneebar and the battle is over.

Winner Via Submission (Kneebar) Royce Gracie in 12:10 (Very Poor).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Fight 12,

Moti Horenstein (2-0) (Krav Maga) vs (12-3-1) (Submission Fighting) Frank Shamrock

Shamrock show he's not just Submission by hitting several huge rights right from the off sending Horenstein back up into the cage and he callapses to the ground leaving himself open for more strikes.

Winner Via TKO (strikes) Frank Shamrock in 1:06 (Good).

UFC 10 Winner: Frank Shamrock

Ultimate Fighting Championships 11: The Proving Ground.

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc11.gif

The whole UFC story is not just taking place in the Octagon. As we approached the end of 1996, the political pressures against the UFC were working overtime. Main UFC opponent John McCain made an infamous and massively over quoted - "human ****fighting" line and he was putting pressure on the governors of all 50 states to ban the UFC, as well as pressuring PPV providers to drop the event from their schedules.

Fight 1.

Mark Coleman (Wrestling) (0-0) vs (3-0) (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) Marcus Silveira

Silveira takes Coleman down early surprising the man who is possibly the best Wrestler/most succesful to step in the Octagon. Coleman soon settles into the MMA way and locks in a Guillotine.

Winner Via Submission (Guillotine) Mark Coleman in 8:02 (Good).

Fight 2.

'The Predator' Don Frye (Wrestling) (1-1) vs (6-0-1) (Pancrase) Yuki Kondo

Frye shows that he is not just a top class Wrestler but also a Boxer by putting Yuki Kondo on his a$$ with a good solid right, he follows up with a series of punches leaving the ref to step in and stop the fight.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Don Frye in 2:00 (Great).

Fight 3.

'The Beast' Dan Severn (Wrestling) (7-4) vs (4-1) (Sambo) 'The Russian Bear' Oleg Taktarov

Well Wrestlers are proving to be better in the Octagon today can Severn continue this trend. Taktarov plays an intelligent game and runs rings around Severn tiring him out he hits him with a couple of strong leg kicks also to slow him down. Taktarov finally goes for the kill and takes down Severn before slowing it for a second catching his own breath and soon he locks in a good looking Leglock.

Winner Via Submission (Leglock) Oleg Taktarov in 16:39 (Average).

Fight 4.

'El Guapo' Bas Rutten (Hybrid) (9-2) vs (4-2) (Kickboxing) Maurice 'Mo' Smith

The fight goes all the way and the judges are called into play without a single takedown taking place. Judge #1 gives the fight to Maurice Smith, Judge #2 to Bas Rutten and Judge #3 gives the fight to Maurice Smith.

Winner Via Judges Decision (Split) Maurice Smith (Average).

Fight 5.

'The Polar Bear' Paul Varelans (2-1) vs (0-0) Julian Sanchez

A battle of two 300lbers. Varelans traps Sanchez up against the cage and unloads right after right and eventually Sanchez drops to the floor and the ref stops the fight.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Paul Varelans in 4:37 (Awful).

Semi Finals.

Fight 6.

'The Predator' Don Frye (Wrestling) (2-1) vs (1-0) (Wrestling) Mark Coleman

Don Frye claims to have a better all round game than Mark Coleman with his Boxing skills and so believes he can win UFC 11. Frye throws the punches and Coleman tries again and again to get in close to grapple. One particular takedown attempt from Coleman sees him recieve a massive right from Frye that really rocked him but he managed to put Frye back against the Cage and take him down, but it was Frye who managed to take control on the ground and he locked in a Arm Triangle.

Winner Via Submission (Arm Triangle) Don Frye in 13:06 (Decent).

Fight 7.

'The Russian Bear' Oleg Taktarov (Sambo) (5-1) vs (5-2) (Kickboxing) Maurice 'Mo' Smith

Taktarov had 'Mo' down early but it took the ref to stand them up and him to takedown Maurice Smith again but this time he had better control.

Winner Via Submission (Kneebar) Oleg Taktarov in 7:38 (Average).

Fight 8.

Amaury Bitetti (5-3) vs (7-4) 'Freek' Hamaker

Freek Hamaker dominates Bitetti on the ground but once the ref stood them back up it was a different story and maybe the wakeup call Bitetti needed and he came back with a few close range rights with a huge one knocking Hamaker clean out.

Winner Via Knockout (Punch) Amaury Bitetti in 13:33 (Decent).

Tournament Final.

Fight 9.

'The Russian Bear' Oleg Taktarov (Sambo) (6-1) vs (3-1) (Wrestling) 'The Predator' Don Frye

Don Fyre surprises Taktarov with an high kick attempt right off the bat before dodging a few strike attempts from the Russian Bear an he fires back with a series of big punches, putting Taktarov down on the ground! Oleg Taktarov has trouble defending as Don Frye rains down punch after punch forcing the ref to step in and pull Frye away stopping the fight.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Don Frye in 1:23 (Good).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/DonFrye.gif

The Tournament Winner: Don Frye!

In a post fight interview Don Frye said he admires the style of and would love to fight 'Freek' Hamaker.

"The Superfight" Title Fight.

'The Worlds Most Dangerous man' Ken Shamrock (12-2) vs (4-1) 'The Japanese Sensation' Akihiro Gono

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/KenShamrock.gifhttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/versus.jpghttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/AkihiroGono.gif

Shamrock takes down Gono inside the first 8 minutes of what could be a 60 minute fight if it goes all the way. After 10 minutes and a variety of Submission attempts Gono is hanging in with the Worlds Most dangerous man. But the Rear Naked Choke (2nd attempt) proves too much.

Winner Via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Ken Shamrock in 12:24 (Very Poor).

Ultimate Ultimate 1996

This is the first UFC event where the announcers and interviewers have started mentioning that the fighters have been cross training and that the UFC has "evolved into it's own fighting discipline." Maybe this is leaning towards an end to the fighting style vs fighting style. Senator McCain and his like minded friends have continued their protests against the UFC and are still calling for a ban on their PPV.

On to the show ...

Fight 1.

Frank Shamrock (Submission Fighting) (13-3-1) vs (6-1) (Hybrid Fighting) Hans Nijman

With Hans Nijman being billed has an Hybrid Fighter i guess cross training is even more important to him, but can he beat the man the announcers mention is the favorite on this side of the draw Frank Shamrock!? Shamrock knocks Nijman to the ground after 20 minutes of back and forth battling with a big right hand but he doesn't have enough left in the tank to finish the Dutchman off with strikes .. But an Arm Triangle does.

Winner Via Submission (Arm Triangle) Frank Shamrock in 21:33 (Average).

Fight 2.

Masakatsu Funaki (Catch Wrestling) (8-1) vs (3-1) (Boxing) Alberta Cerra Leon

Both men have only ever lost one fight and the announcers make a big point of this throughout, Leon hits 2 huge rights but he could not stop himself being lifted up and blasted with a Greco-Roman Slam. Funaki soon locks in an Americana and it is good.

Winner Via Submission (Americana) Masakatsu Funaki in 7:24 (Fantastic).

Fight 3.

'The Ronin' Carlos Newton (Dragonball Jiu Jitsu) (1-1) vs (3-2) (Pitfighting) David 'Tank' Abbott

Carlos Newton tries to take Tank down but his sprawl is good and he forces Newton down to his kness, almost turtled up before unleashing with a few massive Punches and he destroys Newton forcing the ref to step in.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Tank Abbott in 1:28 (Good).

Fight 4.

Moti Horenstein (Krav Maga) (2-1) vs (10-0) (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) Royce Gracie

With Frank Shamrock billed has the favorite on his side of the draw that leaves this man has the favorite to face him the undefeated Royce Gracie. Moti Horensteins tactics were clearly to stay on his feet and it is he that manages to take Royce down after the were up against the cage but Royce can make you tap from anywhere.

Winner Via Submission (Triangle) Royce Gracie in 10:51 (Average).

Semi Finals.

Fight 5.

Masakatsu Funaki (Catch Wrestling) (9-1) vs (14-3-1) (Submission Fighting) Frank Shamrock

In the early going it is Funaki that is the aggressor shooting in on Shamrock trying to take him down, but he is rocked by a solid right hand. A couple more big rights from Shamrock before he is taken down by Funaki the ref stands them back up after a few minutes on the ground. Funaki soon takes Shamrock back down and he tries to get the better of him on the ground until he locks in the Armbar.

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Masakatsu Funanki in 23:43 (Decent).

Fight 6.

Royce Gracie (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) (11-0) vs (4-2) (Pitfighting) David 'Tank' Abbott

Royce tries to grab Tanks heel for an heel lock but fails, but Tank does trip and ends up pulling guard. Tank battles his way out of 3 different submission attempts in a space of 3 minutes whilst on the ground, but the fourth is too much.

Winner Via Submission (Arm Triangle) Royce Gracie in 5:38 (Good).

Co-Main Event.

"Superfight" Title.

'The Worlds most Dangerous man' Ken Shamrock (13-2) vs (4-1) 'The Predator' Don Frye

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/KenShamrock.gifhttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/versus.jpghttp://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/DonFrye.gif

A double leg from Ken Shamrock sees him take Frye down who is controlled against the ground unable to shift Shamrock off of him. The Worlds most Dangerous man proves it by isolating a leg and grabbing a Kneebar.

Winner Via Submission (Kneebar) Ken Shamrock in 4:13 (Very Poor).

Tournament Final;

Main Event.

Royce Gracie (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) (12-0) vs (9-1) (Catch Wrestling) Masakatsu Funaki

Royce dominated the fight with Funaki only getting in a few strikes, Gracie soon had his opponant down and once he did he would easily lock in a Triangle and finish Masakatsu Funaki off.

Winner Via Submission (Triangle) Royce Gracie in 6:42 (Great).

Ultimate Fighting Championships 12: Judgement Day!

Longtime boxing fan Arizona Senator John McCain had succeeded in dealing the UFC a major, if not fatal, blow. Using many of his FCC and media connections, McCain convinced nearly ever major PPV provider of the era to give up on the UFC. Following in their big brothers’ footsteps, many of the smaller local providers are following suit and ceasing to show the next UFC event. It is hard to predict how much damage this will strike the UFC with but it is being said that the UFC now has access to about only 10% of the customers in 1997 that they did in 1996. On to UFC 12 ...

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Middleweight Tournament Quarter Final Fights;

Fight 1.

Fight 3.

'El Guapo' Bas Rutten (9-3) vs (6-1-1) 'The King of the Streets' Marco Ruas

The fight was even and the two battled for so long it seemed like they would go the full time until Rutten dodged a jab and hit out with a barrage of huge rights, putting Ruas down .. And even though Bas Rutten was exhausted he managed to hit enough strikes to force the ref to step in.

Winner Via TKO (Strikes) Bas Rutten in 23:18 (Poor).

Fight 4.

Renzo Gracie (5-1) vs (5-2) Johnny Rhodes

Renzo takes Rhodes down early and smothers him on the ground for awhile before loosening the guard and shje secures a leg applying an ankle lock.

Winner Via Submission (Ankle Lock) Renzo Gracie in 3:53 (Average).

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Fight 5 - Non-Tournament Heavyweight Bout.

Katsuhija 'Shamiji' Fuji (0-0) vs (0-0) 'Dirty' Harry Moskowitz

Two newcomers who both have a background in wrestling Morskowitz is the bigger man standing 6'5 (5 inches taller) and weighing 58lbs heavyier. Fuji takes down Moskowitz but it is Moskowitz who gets the first submission attempt lifting his legs and going for a triangle choke but it is blocked by Fuji, Moskowitz blocks Fujis armbar attempt and after awhile both men are stood back up. The close fight goes all the way to the Judges and even that is close with one Judge giving the fight to Fuji but the other two hand victory to Harry Morskowitz.

Winner Via Judges Decision Harry Moskowitz (Average).

Post-Match: Harry Moskowitz challenged Moti Horenstein he's gonna make it his duty to beat the Isreali.

Fight 6 - Non-Tournament Heavyweight Bout.

'Dangerous' Dave Beneteau (2-2) vs (0-1) 'Big Daddy' Gary Goodridge

A second Heavyweight bout with Goodridge's 6" reach advantage being the focus of the commentators. Huge rights that send Beneteau into the cage and down with Goodridge not letting up sees the ref forced to step in.

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/Real%20World%20MMA/ufc.gif

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Egan Inoue in 5:15 (Good).

Fight 11 - Lightweight Tournament Semi-Final.

'The Japanese Sensation' Akihiro Gono (4-2) vs (6-3) Amaury Bitetti

Both men attempt differing takedowns but its Gono who has too much power for a Bitetti block attempt and Bitetti is down, but it comes to nought with the ref standing them back up when it is clear Gono is going nowhere. Bitetti manages to takedown Gono and he proves more fruitful and soon has a Triangle with Armbar in place.

Winner Via Submission (Triangle with Armbar) Amaury Bitetti in 14:12 (Decent).

Fight 12 - Middleweight Tournament Final;

Renzo Gracie (7-1) vs (3-0) Vitor 'The Phenom' Belfort

A takedown attempt a couple of hits here and there and surprisingly Renzo Gracie locks in an Armbar out of knowhere and Belfort cannot answer it.

Winner Via Submission (Armbar) Renzo Gracie in 5:32 (Good).
