Ultimate Fighting Championships 14: Showdown.

There are a few rule changes going into effect for this event, each of which is fairly important. Gloves are mandatory for all fighters from this point on, while pulling hair, kicking your opponent in the nuts or kicking on the ground are now officially illegal. Credit to them for actually announcing these rules, instead of just mentioning them as they came up, which they did in the past.

Fight 1.

Lightweight Tournament.

LaVerne Clark (1-1) vs (15-0) 'The Croation Sensation' Pat Miletich

23 Age 29

5'11 Height 5'10

170lbs Weight 185lbs

74" Reach 76"

Davenport, Iowa Hometown Bettendorf, Iowa

Boxing Style Hybrid MMA

+300 Betting -380

Miletich comes into this tournament after winning the Battle of the Masters tournament in Chicago put on by a small fighting promotion. But after much hype from the announcers the fight and Miletich fail to deliver and it goes the distance.

Winner: Pat Miletich via Decision after 30:00 (Abysmal).

Fight 2.

Lightweight Tournament.

Eugenio Tadeu (2-2) vs (3-0) 'The Thrill' Ruben Plotcheck

32 Age 20

160lbs Weight 182lbs

72" Reach 70"

Los Angeles, California Hometown Sunnydale, California

Luta Livre Style Pit Fighting

+510 Betting -650

A better fight than the opener with Tadeu battling to take down the bigger opponant who put up a good defensive battle and got in enough good strikes to impress the judges after the fight went the distance for the second time tonight.

Winner: Ruben Plotcheck via Decision after 30:00 (Average).

Fight 3.

Lightweight Tournament.

'The Warrior' Brennan Kamaka (1-0) VS (2-1) Luiz Azeredo

Waianea, Hawaii Hometown Florianopolis, Brazil

Some good strikes and a few takedown attempts were enought for the judges to award the fight to Luiz Azeredo in the third fight of the night and the third to go the distance.

Winner: Luiz Azeredo via Decision after 30:00 (Poor).

Fight 4.

Lightweight Tournament.

'The Freak' Tony Fryklund (0-0) vs (14-0) Royce Gracie

21 Age 30

Las Vegas, Nevada Hometown Torrence, California

Within the first minute Royce shows his dominance and has Fryklund down and a minute or so later an Armbar is locked in and the Nevada native is tapping.

Winner: Royce Gracie via Submission (Armbar) in 2:20 (Great).

With both fighters going a full 30 minutes in their last round fights they will both be wanting to end this one quickly. Just over 5 minutes in and Plotchek has Miletich against the Cage and hits a series of Big Punches, Miletich goes down and the ref steps in to stop the contest.

Winner: Ruben Plotcheck via TKO (Strikes) in 5:25 (Good).

Kevin Randleman the latest in a series of top class Wrestlers to enter the UFC tried to out strike Severn early on but The Beast dodges a big right from Randleman and hits a few of his own putting his opponant down before mounting him but Randleman defends well and a stalemate sees them stood back on their feet. A few more big rights from Randleman before Severn has him down again but this time he gets the advantage.

Winner: Dan Severn via Submission (Arm Triangle) in 13:01 (Decent).

Fight 9 - Co-Main Event.

Compare Royce Gracies 11 1/2v minutes in the Octagon to Plotchecks 35 1/2 and the ever dangerous Royce Gracie is the much fresher fighter, who takes down his opponant in just over 3 minutes and a Triangle is the end of the Lightweight Tournament.

A low kick from Renzo Gracie sees a big right from Frank Shamrock rock his opponant, soon the fighters clinch and Renzon takes down Frank but its Frank who attempts to finish the fight via Submission and a Guillotine Choke but Renzo removes his head from the dangerzone. A battle of submission tries sees both men digging deep into thier stamina reserves to battle away, Shamrock gets caught by the Arm Triangle and its deep the crowd think its over but Shamrock just will not quit and he somehow someway gets free but what will he have left. The ref stand the two but they dont stay on their feet long and the fight goes to the ground once again thanks to Renzon taking Shamrock down. A further Submission battle ensues but Frank can only battle so long he had a lot took out of him in the earlier exchange and Renzo Gracie gets control of Franks back and the Rear Naked Choke is too much.

Winner: Renzo Gracie via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) after 20:19 (Average).

OOC: I've pretty much kept inline with reality up to now, regarding when events took place and event names etc. But i've just made a fairly larger error ... I left Auto Save on whilst i advanced to the end of January 1998 and i hadn't looked at Finances for awhile and we went bankrupt.

Now this doesn't actually present a major problem i've just imported a new UFC into the database applied and got the job of 'UFC President' so all i would be missing is the history and Title holders in the correct places oh and the Pay Per View deal.

What will become of the UFC!?

With Senator McCains campaign against what he calls 'human c0ckfighting' the UFC have struggled in recent months their audience has shrunk thanks to PPV outlets joining Senator McCains boycott and their top fighters including (but not limited to) Randy Couture, Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock have left due to contract disputes.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship a company that originaly started life as a one of 'Spectacle' is now trying to carve a name for itself as a sport. But the company looked like they had the final nail hammered into their coffin in January just a few short weeks ago. When SEG their Pay Per View providers and their co-owners pulled out of the MMA company forcing Art Davie to step back in to try to save the UFC, he had just joined K1-USA in a Vice President capacity in an agreement to put K1 on US PPV. With SEG wanting to get some money back by selling the UFC name K1 were persuaded to step in by Art Davie.

.. And with only a short hiatus the UFC is back but rumour has it that the Tournament format is gone!

I dig it . . . gives this a nice little wrinkle that could bring about some really cool changes in the game now. Looking forward to seeing how you build this thing back up with K-1's involvement.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship to introduce rounds!

UFC President Art Davie has announced at a press conference, set up for the announcements of the upcoming UFC 16 event titled New Beginnings. That the UFC will take a leaf out of sister promotion K-1s book and start using rounds, the company started out with no time limits but with Pay Per View providers to keep happy this was soon scrapped (controversially so as this was one of the reasons the Gracies originally pulled out) they then went to 30 minute rounds before the last couple of events before SEG pulled out had 15 minute time limits except 'Sperfights' (title fights) which went up to 30 minutes.

Art Davie announced that once new Champions are crowned Title Fights will go 5 x 5 minute rounds and non title fights would go 3 x 5 minute rounds. The company will stick to 3 Weight catagories Lightweight (up to 175lbs), Middleweight (up to 200lbs) and Heavyweight (201lbs+). All Soccer style kicks will be made illigal as well as Foot Stomps (all other rules will still be in place).

Pay Per View will be provided by IN Demand 1 where the current deal is for 4 shows and will be available all over America (a better deal than the 10% of American homes that could see the UFC previously on SEG thanks to Senator McCains protests).

News on the first UFC event under the new management will be released shortly the first PPV will be in May (1998).

Race for the Gold!

Art Davie recently announced that three Tournament will decide the holders of the three UFC Titles. Unlike the previous UFC Tournaments though these will go over multiple shows giving fighters the chance to recover and it will have the added bonus of allowing fighters to go all out knowing that they will not have to fight again the same night. The Lightweight and Middleweight Tournaments will feature 8 competitors whereas the Heavyweight has a whopping 16 fighters gunning for the Title.
