THE BEST IN THE WORLD. . .

AND THAT MEANS WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU!

(a slightly different version of things)

ROH NEWS WIRE - PRECEDING JUNE'S iPPV 'BEST IN THE WORLD'

-- ROH fans, we have a NEW Ring of Honor World Champion! In what many fans are already considering a Match of the Year candidate, Davey Richards defeated his American Wolves tag team partner and long-time friend Eddie Edwards to win his first ROH World title. After the match, however, Edwards shocked ROH fans when he attacked Richards after being offered a handshake. Edwards was soon joined in the ring by Roderick Strong, Truth Martini and the members of The House of Truth (sans Christopher Daniels) to continue the assault on the new World Champion. Executive Producer Jim Cornette has promised a decision forthcoming regarding with regards to the ROH World title, Davey Richards, and members of The House of Truth.

-- After his debuting bodyguard, Rhino, failed to beat Homicide but succeeded in taking the Notorious 187 out of Ring of Honor with an injured shoulder, Prince Nana announced that new members of The Embassy would be making their way to ROH Wrestling. The next member, which he called his "New Crown Jewel," is slated to make an appearance at the next ROH iPPV, Death Before Dishonor IX. Nana also alluded to an ROH veteran he had recently spoken with and procured his services to return to an ROH ring.

-- Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team emerged from Best In The World with the ROH Tag Team Championship still around their waists. The Briscoes were none to happy about not only losing, but being the first team eliminated from the tag title match at the iPPV, and took out their frustrations on WGTT after the match with a pair of steel chairs! Jim Cornette has also promised that word would be coming soon from the ROH front office about what is next for Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas.

-- Following his upset victory over Steve Corino at the iPPV, House of Truth member Michael Elgin has been named the #1 contender to El Generico's newly won ROH Television Championship; the match will take place at Death Before Dishonor IX.

-- Jim Cornette and ROH management will be sending out a press release concerning Kevin Steen and the consequences of his actions at Best In The World later today.

-- Also at the next iPPV, Kenny Omega returns to Ring of Honor after a stint in All-Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega has asked for a match with undefeated Embassy member Tomasso Ciampa and the request has been granted! It's Ciampa vs Omega at Death Before Dishonor IX!

-- A full card is expected to be released later this week for Death Before Dishonor IX, as well as more information on how you can catch Ring of Honor Wrestling on your local Sinclair Broadcasting Company affiliate this fall!

RING OF HONOR PROMOS

LEADING UP TO DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR IX

==================================================*

PRINCE NANA AND THE EMBASSY

"THE NEW CROWN JEWEL"

-- In a video posted by Prince Nana, he revealed the new members of The Embassy that will be joining him at Death Before Dishonor IX. He revealed his "New Crown Jewel" to be "The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams! Nana also said that Williams be setting out on a quest to bring prestige to The Embassy, and that soon they will be setting their sights on the Ring of Honor Television title. Williams was on screen for only a few moments, warning El Generico to beware the Canadian Destroyer.

"THE EMBASSY'S NEW ENFORCER

-- In a separate video by Nana, he revealed the returning ROH veteran to be Brent Albright! Albright's official role in The Embassy is that of enforcer, meaning he will be dispatched on whomever Nana desires when he feels that he, or The Embassy, has been disrespected in any way. Nana continued on to make threats to the ROH front office that if more goodwill was not shown to The Embassy soon, times would prove to be chaotic for Ring of Honor during their all-important transition into a new television era.

==================================================*

WORLD'S GREATEST TAG TEAM - SHELTON BENJAMIN & CHARLIE HAAS

"HERE TO STAY"

-- ROH Tag Team Champions Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas, Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team announced via YouTube that they has signed new, long-term contracts with Ring of Honor! They claimed they were "here to stay, where the best in the world compete." The duo addressed The Briscoes during the video and petitioned the ROH front office for a match at Death Before Dishonor IX.

ROH NEWS WIRE - FROM THE DESK OF JIM CORNETTE

-- After much deliberation, it has been decided by myself and the Ring of Honor front office that, henceforth, any mention of Kevin Steen shall be censored by management. Likewise, any member of the ROH roster who tries to interject Steen back into the company will be censored and face further disciplinary consequences. Should Mr. Steen choose not to abide by our ban on his own goodwill, Ring of Honor will be forced to take legal action to ensure that, should he come within a certain distance of our operations, he will face jail time.

Myself and the front office are adopting a policy of zero tolerance in regards to Kevin Steen. This includes on the ROH message boards, website, YouTube and Facebook pages. . . this also serves as fair warning that any signs featuring his name at future Ring of Honor events will be confiscated and not returned. We recognize the fan's right to choose which wrestlers they root for, however from this point forward Kevin Steen is blacklisted entity here in Ring of Honor.

Thank you,

Jim Cornette

and ROH Management

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH

DAVEY RICHARDS ©

-VS-

RODERICK STRONG

-VS-

EDDIE EDWARDS

-- What was originally conceived as a singles match with Richards defending against Strong has been forced to turn into a three-way dance when Edwards' manager, Truth Martini, invoked his client's rematch clause to interject Edwards into the match. Martini believes that with the odds 2 against 1, the ROH World title will soon be in possession of The House of Truth. Can Davey Richards prove successful in his first defense, or will he fall victim to the numbers game and allow Edwards or Strong to become 2-time champion ROH Champion?

-- After Prince Nana made threats against ROH management unless more 'goodwill' was shown to The Embassy, Executive Producer Jim Cornette offered a tag team title shot to any two members of Nana's group. Nana promptly responded that his two biggest and baddest, Rhino & new enforcer Brent Albright, would be stepping up to the challenge. Can WGTT topple the two monsters, or will they bring gold to The Embassy?

The build up for Davey winning took what semed like years... He's not losing on hi first title defense

ROH TAG: WGTT -VS- THE EMBASSY

I love this Embassy team, but Haas & Benjamin need to be pushed as stars

ROH TV: EL GENERICO VS MICHAEL ELGIN

I stated in anothe rdiary that Generico seems better to be the wrestler who chases for the title instead of defends it... That case, I really like Elgin and think he'd make a great TV champ

CHRIS HERO -VS- NAOMICHI MARUFUJI

great match...Hero hopefully to begin his rise to the World title

THE BRISCOES VS THE ALL-NIGHT EXPRESS

Briscos are ROH legends... Which could make sense with ANX getting a win, thrusting themselves into title mix...But cant go against Briscoe's here

Love to see a push for Omega

QUICK PICKS

ROH TITLE: DAVEY RICHARDS -VS- RODERICK STRONG -VS- EDDIE EDWARDS

Agree with previous comments, Davey should take this and lead ROH into a new era. Just hope he doesn't sign a written deal with a Japanese promotion

ROH TAG: WGTT -VS- THE EMBASSY

Can't see any reason to take the titles off WGTT just yet, but I feel a very strong showing from the embassy is likely.

ROH TV: EL GENERICO VS MICHAEL ELGIN

I don't really like Elgin. I'm sure he will grow on me eventually, but unless he has the right opponent, his matches tend to drift a little bit. I feel Generico holds on to it and loses it to a more worthy opponent.

CHRIS HERO -VS- NAOMICHI MARUFUJI

Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea who Marufuji is, therefore I have gone for Hero.

THE BRISCOES VS THE ALL-NIGHT EXPRESS

Would love to see a victory here for ANX and don't really think The Briscoes need the win in this match up.

KENNY OMEGA -VS- TOMASSO CIAMPA

Again, I must have missed the point of Ciampa. I get that he has the look, but just doesn't do anything for me in the ring. Omega, however, is a star.

PETEY WILLIAMS -VS- COLT CABANA

I love Petey Williams. 'Nuff said

STEVE CORINO -VS- MIKE BENNETT

Would love to see Bennett go over here against Corino. He is definitely a star in the making. Not sure that Corino will like the idea of putting over Bennett (in a game sense)

Text is my reason for the pick. Brackets my opinions on the match and where things could go.

ROH TITLE: DAVEY RICHARDS -VS- RODERICK STRONG -VS- EDDIE EDWARDS

-Davey is the man in ROH right now (and I am guessing some tension between Strong/Eddie, potentially with this forcing Truth to make them a tag team until they can get along?).

ROH TAG: WGTT -VS- THE EMBASSY

-No chance for the Embassy here, all though they could use a win to get momentum. (Suprised 'The Crown Jewel' isn't in this match)

ROH TV: EL GENERICO VS MICHAEL ELGIN

-I am a big Elgin fan, but no hotshotting titles in ROH.

CHRIS HERO -VS- NAOMICHI MARUFUJI

-Regular over special attraction.

THE BRISCOES VS THE ALL-NIGHT EXPRESS

-I doubt you are going to do big hype for every match but this fued has recieved no mention in this diary at all. So not time for ANX's blow-off win yet.

KENNY OMEGA -VS- TOMASSO CIAMPA

-Ciampa is undefeated, so should not lose cleanly to someone who left ROH for a long period. (And a question: is Kenny back for good or a special attraction for this show?)

PETEY WILLIAMS -VS- COLT CABANA

-Although Petey is no Jimmy Rave, he has to win here. (Can't get behind Williams as a crown-jewel, I don't see him matching the reaction Rave got, but I still have to go with him.

STEVE CORINO -VS- MIKE BENNETT

-Corino is down after Steen rejected him, so makes sense to have him lose, kind of showing he has lost the fire inside of him. (And wasn't SCOH meant to be their last match)

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR IX

FROM THE MOHEGAN SUN ARENA IN UNCASVILLE, CT (LIVE ATTENDACE: 9,309)

PRESENTED IN iPPV FORMAT BY GOFIGHTLIVE.COM (BUYRATE: .01)

WITH YOUR HOSTS: KEVIN KELLY AND DAVE PRAZAK

-- BEFORE THE iPPV GOES LIVE, ADAM COLE & KYLE O'REILLY DEFEATED THE BRAVADO BROTHERS IN A SHORT OPENING MATCH (RATING: 36)

-- The iPPV begins with Kenny Omega mid-entrance for his match. His opponent, Tomasso Ciampa, makes his way to the ring accompanied by a hoard of other Embassy members- Prince Nana, Princess Mia, RD Evans, and Nana's personal bodyguard, Rhino.

TOMASSO CIAMPA -VS- KENNY OMEGA

The crowd was pumped for the returning Kenny Omega, and he got several streamers from the crowd. The match itself featured some good action, but not much in the way of heat as it became obvious to the Omega-centric crowd that the purpose of the match was to further put over Ciampa and his undefeated streak. Ciampa picked up the win using his Powerbomb/Backbreaker combo. (RATING: 48)

WINNER: TOMASSO CIAMPA

-- After the match, The Embassy make their way to the back while Kevin Kelly and Dave Prazak talk about the arrival of Nana's "New Crown Jewel," Petey Williams, to Ring of Honor.

-- Colt Cabana enters the arena, microphone in hand, as he mockingly cuts a promo sending up Prince Nana's accent. He says that Petey Williams has come to Ring of Honor on a quest. . . to lose to The Coltster!

-- After Colt's promo, Prince Nana, Princess Mia, and Petey Williams make their way to the ring. Nana does not look pleased with Colt's mockery.

COLT CABANA -VS- PETEY WILLIAMS

The match featured good action, with the crowd getting hot for some of Cabana's comedy spots and Williams' spot-on infuriated reactions. Williams showed to be more methodical than usual, working the legs and eventually pulling off the finish with a Sharpshooter. (RATING: 64)

WINNER: PETEY WILLIAMS

-- Steve Corino comes to the ring, without his 'sponsor' Jimmy Jacobs for the first time since he came back to Ring of Honor. Corino talks about how he is an evil man, but every day he tries to be just a little bit better. It's been months since he has felt any twinges of his old self, and he has been proud of the restoration being done to his legacy. But, recently, something happened. . . something that brought back an old feeling, something he used to feel any time he was one-upped or defeated in a match. He felt the desire for revenge, and it was Kevin Steen who brought that feeling back to life. After mentioning Steen, Corino's microphone was quickly taken away by a ringside attendant and before he could argue, his opponent started to make his way to the ring.

STEVE CORINO -VS- MIKE BENNETT

Bennett shined in this match, Corino made him look like a crafty heel quite easily. After playing the face-in-peril most of the match, Corino gained control and looked quite driven on his way to a victory with the Old School Expulsion. (RATING: 68)

WINNER: STEVE CORINO

-- Seconds after the bell rings, Kevin Steen leaps over the guardrail and charges into the ring! Before Corino can even get to his feet from making the pin, Steen nails him with a knee to the back of the head! Corino stumbles and falls, rolling out of the ring to the floor. As Steen looks for a live mic, the ring is swarmed by security and local authorities! As Corino recovers on the outside, Steen is taken away in handcuffs while Executive Producer Jim Cornette makes sure Corino is kept away from Steen.

-- With the arena still in chaos, we cut to a pre-taped promo by The Briscoes. Jay & Mark are pissed off that The All-Night Express took them out of the 4-way match at Best In The World, and even more pissed off at the lack of respect they've received lately in Ring of Honor. From here on out, The Briscoes are only out for themselves.

THE BRISCOES -VS- THE ALL-NIGHT EXPRESS

The crowd was pretty hot for this one, with the tag team scene in Ring of Honor really heating up lately. The fued between these two has cooled since Supercard of Honor, but things were as tense as ever during this bout. The Briscoes picked up the win with a Doomsday Device. (RATING: 62)

WINNER: THE BRISCOES

UNANNOUNCED ATTRACTION MATCH

JAY LETHAL -VS- CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI

Just as the crowd expected to be sent to intermission, the familiar Kings of Wrestling music hit and the announcer revealed that an unannounced attraction match was up next. Jay Lethal made his entrance, and the two put on a action-packed match with a great reaction from the crowd. Lethal picked up the win when Claudio came in for a European Uppercut but was countered into the long-unseen Lethal Combination. (RATING: 72)

WINNER: JAY LETHAL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

INTERMISSION

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TELEVISION TITLE MATCH

EL GENERICO © -VS- MICHAEL ELGIN

Michael Elgin managed to look pretty good in this match, drawing some average heat from the crowd during his losing effort to win the TV title. (RATING: 42)

WINNER: EL GENERICO

SPECIAL ATTRACTION MATCH

CHRIS HERO -VS- NAOMICHI MARUFUJI

The crowd was hot for this match, turning the ring into a mess of red and white streamers when Marufuji entered for the bout. Hero & Marufuji worked a stiff match while the crowd ate it up for nearly 25 minutes. Hero eventually nailed Marufuji with the Golden Elbow for the win. (RATING: 68)

WINNER: CHRIS HERO

-- Prince Nana enters the arena with Princess Mia, and his team for the night, Rhino and Brent Albright. He says that his "New Crown Jewel" took the first step towards bringing the Television title gold to The Embassy and tonight, Rhino and Albright will bring the tag team gold. He said that since Jay Lethal has decided to show up unannounced, he would like to extend a challenge for next month's show, Driven 3: Jay Lethal against Petey Williams! The crowd seems to like that as we get set for the next match.

ROH TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

WRESTLING'S GREATEST TAG TEAM © -VS- THE EMBASSY

Albright looked great in his Ring of Honor return, and was easily able to cement himself as the unlikable enforcer for Prince Nana's Embassy. Albright & Rhino kept control for a while with power moves, and had the crowd hot when it looked like Rhino was going to win the belts with a vicious Gore! But her missed, and the tides began to turn; while Nana was trying to advice his team to victory, he had inadvertently distracted them allowing Shelton Benjamin to hit Albright with his Paydirt finisher while Haas took Rhino out of the ring to allow for the pin. (RATING: 74)

WINNER: WRESTLING'S GREATEST TAG TEAM

-- Truth Martini is backstage for an iPPV exclusive promo, along with Roderick Strong and Eddie Edwards. Martini says that Richards doesn't stand a chance of emerging victorious from his his first title defense. He says that Richards couldn't defeat Edwards for the TV title, and that his win at Best In The World was nothing but a fluke. Richards won't walk out of the Mohegan Sun Arena with the ROH World title, and that's the truth.

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH

DAVEY RICHARDS © -VS- RODERICK STRONG -VS- EDDIE EDWARDS

In the match of the night, all looked lost for Richards during the first 10 minutes of the bout; Strong and Edwards took turns beating on him, until Strong looked to seize the win and nailed Edwards with a Backbreaker out of nowhere to eliminate him from the match. While the two argued, and Truth Martini had to pry Edwards out of the ring, Richards had started to recover. Try as he might, Strong never had Richards near the edge as he was before Edwards left the ring. Richards and Strong went another 30 minutes before Richards pulled off the victory to retain the ROH World title. (RATING: 75)

WINNER: DAVEY RICHARDS

OVERALL RATING: 67

ROH NEWS WIRE - PRECEDING JULY'S iPPV 'DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR IX'

-- ROH World Champion Davey Richards emerged victorious, retaining his World title even with the odds stacked in favor of The House of Truth. Roderick Strong's desire to regain the ROH World title got the better of him, and he eliminated Eddie Edwards after the opening minutes of the match were controlled by them double-teaming Richards. ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette has stated that Homicide had been slated as a second opponent for Richards, but with The Notorious 187 still on the shelf due to a shoulder injury, a contender has not yet been named.

-- Davey Richards was not the only champion to retain at Death Before Dishonor IX as ROH Tag Team Champions Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team emerged victorious over The Embassy's powerhouse team of Rhino and "The Enforcer" Brent Albright. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas have made it clear to the front office that at Driven 3 next month, they are out for revenge on The Briscoes. The match-up has been confirmed bout for our August iPPV on GoFightLive.com as of this news wire.

-- Things didn't go quite as planned for his tag team, but Prince Nana's "New Crown Jewel" Petey Williams made a successful debut over the returning Kenny Omega. Nana later challenged recently returned ROH veteran Jay Lethal on behalf of "The Canadian Destroyer" and the match has been made official for Driven 3 as well.

-- Steve Corino was examined by doctor's after Death Before Dishonor IX and was said to be fine. Corino was attacked after defeating "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett. In other Corino news, the front office has issued a $500 fine to Corino for breaking company policy at our recent iPPV.

-- Ring of Honor and current roster member Colt Cabana have been trending on Twitter lately thanks to name drop by ROH veteran CM Punk recently on WWE's Monday Night Raw. Our e-mail and message boards have been flooded with questions regarding a possible return to ROH by the Straight Edge Superstar but as of this time we can say that we have had no contact with CM Punk about returning to the promotion.

-- ROH Wrestling will return to your television sets in September on most Sinclair Broadcasting Company local affiliates. A complete list of stations is available on our website, as well as Sinclair's ROH sub-site.

-- A full card is expected to be released next week for Driven 3!

RING OF HONOR PROMOS

LEADING UP TO DRIVEN 3

==================================================*

PRINCE NANA AND THE EMBASSY

"THE ENFORCER"

-- In a video posted by Prince Nana, he voiced his displeasure at Colt Cabana's mockery of The Embassy at Death Before Dishonor IX. Nana reminds Cabana that he hired someone just for occasions like this, and that at Driven 3 he will bring Brent Albright to beat some respect for royalty into Colt.

"DAVEY RICHARDS AND THE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER"

-- Nana released another video where he demands that Rhino be declared the number one contender to ROH World Champion Davey Richards' title. Nana says that since Rhino took out the number one contender, Homicide, then that makes Rhino the rightful number one contender.

==================================================*

THE BRISCOES - MARK & JAY BRISCOE

"BREAKING THE CODE"

-- Veterans of the ROH tag scene The Briscoes uploaded a video where they talk about how they are through with honor and sportsmanship. It's a new day for The Briscoes, because they live to break the Code of Honor in every way they have to start getting the respect they demand. They plan to start at Driven 3, where won't be any other "punk bitches" in the ring to save Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas from the "ass whuppin' they're about to put down on 'em."

QUICK PICKS

ROH TITLE: DAVEY RICHARDS -VS- RHINO

I can see Davey retaining by DQ, as Prince Nana reveals a new member of The Embassy, who comes out to attack Richards.

ROH TAG: WGTT -VS- THE BRISCOES

Should be a good match, where I see WGTT retaining despite a good effort from The Briscoes.

ROH TV: EL GENERICO VS MIKE BENNETT

I actually agree with Guyver in thinking that Bennett needs to chase this title a little bit before winning it. In my opinion, this title needs to be on Bennett at some point in the near future.

KINGS OF WRESTLING VS THE ALL-NIGHT EXPRESS

As much as I love ANX, I can't really look past the Kings winning this.

KENNY OMEGA -VS- EDDIE EDWARDS

Again, a really interesting matchup on paper. Eddie Edwards to win.

BRENT ALBRIGHT -VS- COLT CABANA

Already loving the addition of Brent Albright and I see him defeating Cabana here, to gain momentum for himself and the stable as a whole.

PETEY WILLIAMS -VS- JAY LETHAL

Did I mention that I am a Petey Williams mark? Lol

STEVE CORINO -VS- RODERICK STRONG

I fear that Strong goes over here, not by being the better wrestler, but because of interference from a deranged Mr. Steen.

NB: Loving the diary. Keep it up!

CM PUNK OFFICIALLY LEAVING WWE

BY JEREMY THOMAS

  • In the first story to confirm that CM Punk is leaving World Wrestling Entertainment, he is being advertised for shows on the upcoming Dragon Gate tour in Japan. Furthermore, Punk has been advertised on the first show as competing against in a 4-way match for the promotion's Open the Dream Gate title. It is unknown if Punk will appear with the WWE Championship, which he won from John Cena at Money In The Bank and then retained in a surprise appearance the next night on RAW. After the announcement, Punk took to Twitter to say, "Off to Japan, and Dragon Gate, to add another belt to the collection."

In the weeks since, however, Punk has not appeared on WWE television, and neither he nor the WWE title have been mentioned at all. It has been rumored that the winner of the the upcoming Night of Champions RAW main event, Alberto Del Rio versus John Cena, will be declared the new WWE champion in nondescript fashion.

Kenny King was even smart enough to avoid Hero's loaded elbow pad and nail him with a DDT, but Castagnoli managed to save the pin attempt. In the end, however, the Kings managed to divide and conquer the ANX when Castagnoli essentially took Titus out of the match with a big boot to his not-yet-repaired ear drum, leaving King to be finished off by Hero. <span style="font-size:8px"><strong>(RATING: 70)</strong></span></p><p> <span style="font-family:Book Antiqua"><strong>WINNER:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua"> THE KINGS OF WRESTLING</span></p><p> </p><p> --------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> <span style="font-size:10px"><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua"><span style="color:Red">INTERMISSION</span></span></span></p><p> --------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="31726" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center"><p><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua"><strong><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-size:8px"><span style="color:Red">ROH TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH</span></span></span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua"><strong><span style="font-size:12px"> WRESTLING'S GREATEST TAG TEAM © -VS- THE BRISCOES</span></strong></span></p><p> The crowd was on fire for this one, as the two teams put forth a great effort with lots of action and storytelling. Each team seemed to have the match won at several different points- Shelton Benjamin was on the receiving end of a Doomsday Device and was only saved from being pinned by Charlie Haas; Haas looked to have Jay Briscoe pinned in what may have been the closest near-fall in ROH history. When it was announced that 5 minutes in the time limit remained, Benjamin and Mark Briscoe went at it in a chain of reversal pins that had the crowd on their feet clapping! The match reached a frantic pace in the last moments as each team tried to score the win, eventually all four men spilling to the outside in a wild brawl. Corino looks dead into the camera and says, "<strong>Jim Cornette</strong>. . . I want a match, and you know who I want it with. . . if I don't get it. . ."
