NWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!

Saturday Week 4 September 1989

Location: Ford Center (Mid South)

Attendance: 14,106

Overall Rating: B

TV Rating: 2.37

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ricflairc.jpg

[it's the go-home show for NWA Fall Brawl and what an event we have lined up for you this evening! As we pan around the crowd, several signs are shown in the background, including: 'Wear a hat, Jim Ross!' Jim Ross and Gordon Solie welcome everyone to NWA's World Championship Wrestling just in time for the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey to get every fan in attendance on their feet! The NWA World Heavyweight Champion, The Nature Boy Ric Flair comes out and gives a strut in the center of the ring, releasing a 'Whooooo' that is echoed by the crowd. Flair focuses the interview on his upcoming match with Terry Funk at Fall Brawl. In the words of Ric Flair, he is leer jets. He is limousine rides. He is stealing kisses, wheeling and dealing and a son of a gun. Terry Funk is none of those things. That is why Funk doesn't carry the NWA World Heavyweight title. At the end of Fall Brawl, only one man can carry the gold and in order for Terry Funk to be that man, he's going to have to kill this man. Whooooo!]

Match #1

The Dragonmaster vs. Flyin' Brian

[This is a faster-paced opening contest with Gary Hart looking on from ringside as The Dragonmaster takes on Flyin' Brian. Both men give it their all with Brian taking to the air and The Dragonmaster using his martial arts ability. Gary Hart tries to interfere in the match but referee Tommy Young catches him and keeps him back. This distraction allows Brian to go over the top rope and land on the apron. He uses the ropes as a springboard -- Air Pillman! Brian makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Flyin' Brian (Via Pinfall @ 5:53)

Match Rating: C

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/eddiegilbert.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/missyhyatt.jpg

[We head to a pre-recorded promo where 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert talks about his upcoming match with Al Perez. He says that Perez dared to place his hands on the first woman of wrestling, on Hotstuff International's Missy Hyatt. That kind of thing does not happen without a retaliation. If Perez is not careful then at the end of the night at Fall Brawl he is going to get burned. As Gilbert is talking, Missy Hyatt bounces around beside him and blows kisses to the camera.]

Match #2

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/alperez.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/rangerross.jpg

Al Perez vs. Ranger Ross

[A match that is perhaps better than most people would have given either wrestler credit for. This match is mostly dominated by Perez. The crowd tries to pump up Ross with 'USA' chants but they are to no avail. Around the five minute mark, Perez catches Ross with the Brainbuster and makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Al Perez (Via Pinfall @ 5:13)

Match Rating: C-

[Al Perez gets the victory and gets his hand raised by the referee. He shoves the referee back and goes over, putting the boots to Ranger Ross! The crowd boos and Perez gets Ross set up for another Brainbuster. But as he gets prepared to drop Ross on his head again, two figures come dashing in from the back!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/eddiegilbert.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/missyhyatt.jpg

['Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt enter the ring! Perez drops Ross and exits before Gilbert can get his hands on him! Perez points to his brain, showing that he is smart enough not to get involved with Gilbert until the coming pay-per-view. Eddie Gilbert just looks at him angrily from inside the ring, while Missy Hyatt even turns her lips into a scowl at him!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ricflairc.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/rickysteamboat2.jpg

[Through the use of our still new TurnerTron, we head backstage to see Ric Flair come face to face with Ricky Steamboat! Steamboat asks Flair what is up with Ole Anderson. Flair shakes his head and tells Steamboat not to worry about that. What he should be worried about is their tag match later on tonight. Flair says that he will take care of Ole Anderson if the situation calls for it. He tells Steamboat that he has his back tonight and he hopes that the Dragon has his. Steamboat nods and the two shake hands before we head back to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/cactusjack3.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/tommyrich.jpg

Cactus Jack vs. Tommy Rich

[A match that many would say does not even have the right to be as good as it is tonight. But this is a solid brawling encounter between Cactus Jack and Tommy Rich. Both men, in the limited time of this match, show that they have what it takes to make it to the next level. The match goes outside the ring where it's Cactus Jack's territory. Jack slams Rich into the guardrail right in front of a fan who has a sign reading: 'Cactus fears Soap!' and another sign reading: 'I came to see Cactus Jack!' Jack body slams Rich on the blue safety mats and then climbs onto the apron. He runs across -- Bang Bang Elbow connects! Jack smiles and gives the 'bang bang' and then he drags Rich back into the ring and makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Cactus Jack (Via Pinfall @ 5:02)

Match Rating: B-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/MichaelHayes7.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/jimmygarvin.jpg

[We are taken to a pre-recorded interview where the NWA World Tag Team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds talk about their match at Fall Brawl against the Steiners. Michael Hayes accuses Rick Steiner of having nothing but a box of rocks in his head. Jimmy Garvin says that it's sad to think that Scott Steiner is the brains in the team. They both agree that rock and roll and kicking butt is their business and business is good. It's going to be good at Fall Brawl when they walk away with their belts.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/animal3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/hawk3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/paulellering.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/samu5.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/fatu7.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/paule.jpg

[We are taken backstage once again through the use of the Turner-Tron. The focus is on a catering table and then we pull back to reveal another brawl going on between Road Warriors with Paul Ellering and Samoan Swat Team with Paul E. Dangerously! These two hard hitting teams pair up, even with the managers punching away at each other! Officials are on the scene but it is very difficult to seperate two such monster tag teams and several more shots are made before they are finally seperated. But it won't be this way at Fall Brawl!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/sidvicious3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/danspivey2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/theadorerlong.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ShaneDouglas3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/johnnyace.jpg

The Skyscrapers vs. Dynamic Dudes

[sQUASH! There's not a whole lot to say about this match other than the total and complete domination by the Skyscrapers against two men who carry skateboards to the ring. Vicious catches and drops Douglas with a sidewalk slam. Dangerous Dan Spivey drops Johnny Ace with a DDT. Then they both yank Ace to his feet and lift him up -- Double Power Bomb! Sid places a foot on his chest: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Skyscrapers (Via Pinfall @ 6:23)

Match Rating: C+

[We move to a pre-recorded interview, this time with the challengers to the NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Steiner Brothers! Scott Steiner mostly dominates the interview as he says that they are both a lot smarter than the Freebirds give them credit for. They did graduate from the university of Michigan, after all. He and his brother are going to show that they are going to be the future in the National Wrestling Alliance. The future is Fall Brawl. Rick Steiner gives a few 'woofs' and says that he is planning to take a bite out of the hides of the Freebirds.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/boborton.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/sting4.jpg

'Cowboy' Bob Orton vs. Sting

[Our semi main event and this is a good one pitting 'Cowboy' Bob Orton and the man they call Sting. The younger Sting has several advantages over the older 'Ace' Bob Orton but Orton is a solid brawler and that is what brought him to the dance here this evening. The match went back and forth between the two with Orton scoring several near falls throughout the bout. Sting managed a comeback late in the match and sent Orton into the corner -- Stinger Splash! Orton falls face first on the mat and Sting bends over, grabbing the legs of Orton and twisting him -- Scorpion Deathlock! Orton shakes his head, trying to outlast but eventually he has to submit as a figure comes running toward the ring.]

Winner: Sting (Via Submission @ 12:18)

Match Rating: B-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/cactusjack3.jpg

[Cactus Jack enters the ring, while Sting has the Scorpion still locked on Bob Orton! Jack catches Sting with a clothesline that breaks the hold! He picks up Sting and moves him over to the ropes -- Cactus Clothesline! The clothesline sends both men over the top rope to the floor below! The crowd boos as Jack makes the 'bang bang' symbol. Jack picks up Sting and shoves him right into the ring post! Sting lays against the ring post and Jack does his own version of a Stinger Splash but sending Sting face-first against the ring post! Sting staggers backward and falls against the guardrail. Officials come running out to break these two up as a fan holds up a sign in the background that reads: 'LOCK UP CACTUS JACK BEFORE HE KILLS SOMEBODY!' and Jim Ross could NOT agree more!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/NWA.jpg

Match #6

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/terryfunk2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/luger.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ricflairc.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/rickysteamboat2.jpg

Terry Funk and Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat

[Our main event contest and this should be a great one as four of the top wrestlers go at it in tag team action. Flair and Steamboat score a couple of near falls early on, taking advantage quickly over both Funk and Luger. Flair gets in there with Luger and tries to chop the granitelike chest of the Total Package and Luger gives no reaction to the chop! Luger takes down Flair with a clothesline and poses in the ring. For the next several minutes, Flair is kept down and in the corner of Luger and Funk. Luger and Funk make quick and frequent tags in and out. When Luger is in, a sign is shown in the background: 'I'm Lex's body coach!' Funk catches Flair with a hangman's neckbreaker and gets a two count. Ole Anderson comes down to ringside. The momentum shifts when Flair kicks Funk away from a Funk Spinning Toe Hold attempt. Flair manages to crawl over and tag in the Dragon! Steamboat lights up Funk and Luger with chops and dropkicks! Flair comes in to help! Flair and Luger battle over in one corner, while Steamboat and Funk battle in another! Funk uses a rake of the eyes on Steamboat. Steamboat staggers around, blinded. The referee is distracted by the fight between Flair and Luger and doesn't see Ole Anderson enter the ring. Anderson grabs Funk -- Gourdbuster! Anderson rolls out of the ring and Steamboat recovers, seeing Funk on the mat. Steamboat climbs the turnbuckles -- Flying Cross Body! He hooks the leg as Ole Anderson gets the referee to turn around: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat (Via Pinfall @ 13:38)

Match Rating: A

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/oleanderson.jpg

[What a huge victory and a great match! Lex Luger elevates Ric Flair over the top rope to the floor below and then he goes after Ricky Steamboat. Luger attacks Steamboat from behind and sends him crashing down to the mat. Outside the ring, Ole Anderson sees what is going on but grabs Flair, trying to pull him to the back and away from the fighting. Flair looks up toward the ring and sees Luger and Terry Funk stomping away on Steamboat at the behest of Gary Hart! Flair shoves Anderson away and moves toward the ring, grabbing a chair. Flair slides inside and he catches Funk with a chairshot. Funk and Hart both quickly exit the ring. Flair swings at Luger but Luger ducks -- CLANG! The chairshot hits Steamboat instead! Steamboat goes down like a ton of bricks! Flair looks wide-eyed at what just happened. Ole Anderson smirks at ringside and Terry Funk and Lex Luger look happy at what happened. Flair drops the chair and drops down to check on Steamboat. We're out of time! We'll see you at Fall Brawl!]

The Skyscrapers vs. Midnight Express

Comment: This result makes me weep.

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. The Steiners

Comment: The future may come sometime around Halloween Havoc.

Al Perez vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Comment: Okay, I was amused that Al Perez got a small feud, but the fun's over, Gilbert is far better and far more upside.

#1 Contenders Match, U.S. Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat

Comment: Lex is a damn fine US champ, and a feud and match against Flair will be very good for him skill-wise. I figure Steamboat will have issues with Ole yet, may even cost him this match, and if not, then Dragon vs Funk will be damn fine to follow as well.

Samoan Swat Team vs. Road Warriors

Comment: Erm, yeah, nothing against the SST, but they are designated chew toys here.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair defends vs. Terry Funk

Let's face it, the most likely person Ric Flair is ever going to drop the title to here is Sting.

Cactus Jack vs. Sting

Comment: Sting is too good for Cactus at this stage but I can definitely see the loss by DQ and a re-match at Halloween Havoc

The Skyscrapers vs. Midnight Express

Comment: The Scrapers are on a collision course with the Road Warriors

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match: The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. The Steiners

Comment: I'm going Steiner here as I don't see either of the other titles changing hands.

Al Perez vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Comment: I'm going against the curve here. I can see Missy turning on Eddie and siding with the Latin Heartthrob.

#1 Contenders Match, U.S. Heavyweight Title Match: Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat

Comment: By DQ. At the hands of Ole Anderson.

Samoan Swat Team vs. Road Warriors

Comment: WELL! I'll be shocked if the Road Warriors lose this one.

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Ric Flair defends vs. Terry Funk

Comment: A delicious prospect would be for Ole to turn on Flair and set-up with Funk in a new Horsemen style project... but I think Slick Ric is money at this point in time and a Steamboat/Flair feud with Ole involved somehow would be too delicious to pass up.

Match #1

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/cactusjack3.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/sting4.jpg

Cactus Jack vs. Sting

[Our in-ring portion of the show begins with a very solid match between Cactus Jack and Sting. Though both are top competitors inside the ring, there were several botches throughout the match that show a lack of chemistry between these two. The momentum actually swings back and forth between these two with Jack showing some good wrestling skill. Toward the end of the match, Cactus sends Sting and himself over the top rope with a Cactus Clothesline. He walks over and grabs a chair, folding the metal folding chair up and bringing it crashing down upon the back of Sting! Sting drops to his knees and the referee calls for the bell.]

Winner: Sting (Via Disqualification @ 19:47)

Match Rating: B-

[Cactus Jack ignores the sounds of the bell and brings the chair crashing against Sting's skull! The referee tries to step in but Jack shoves him to the side. Cactus Jack lays the chair on top of Sting's body and then climbs the apron. He smiles, looking down toward Sting as the referee tries to step in the way. Cactus Jack gives the 'bang bang' symbol and then runs along the apron and leaps -- Elbow Drop! Cactus Jack drops his elbow right into the heart of Sting! Sting may be seriously hurt here, folks! Jack just smiles and looks down at the damage he caused. Finally, he steps away and allows EMTs to check on Sting.]

[We head to an interview backstage with Ricky Steamboat. The Dragon talks about his match tonight with the Total Package Lex Luger. He speaks on their history and how Luger attacked him back in June because of jealousy over being the number one contender. Tonight we find out for certain and Steamboat says that he will prove why he was named the top contender. Tonight the Dragon flies!]

Match #2

The Skyscrapers vs. Midnight Express

[Our second match is surprisingly strong in tag team action. But both of these teams have experience teaming together and it shows in the frequent tags and use of double team moves. The Skyscrapers have a definite power advantage over Midnight Express. After a hot tag to Bobby Eaton, the Midnight Express looked like they may be on their way to a victory. Eaton went for the Alabama Jam on Sid Vicious but Vicious rose up and caught Eaton around the throat -- Choke Slam! Vicious makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Skyscrapers (Via Pinfall @ 14:45)

Match Rating: B+

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match

The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. The Steiners

[After a video showing the history between the Fabulous Freebirds and the Steiners, we head into our NWA World Tag Team titles match! Early in the match, Rick Steiner hits both Freebirds with Steinerlines and they both escape outside the ring. Scott comes in and Rick runs around barking before going down to all fours while Scott stands tall behind him. The crowd absolutely loves it! The Freebirds take control once they come back in the ring and Rick Steiner plays a bit of a face-in-peril. The Fabulous Freebirds score several near falls until Jimmy Garvin goes for a DDT. Rick holds onto the ropes and Garvin falls, hitting his head. Rick crawls over and makes the tag and in comes Scott but Garvin also tags in Hayes. Scott throws punches to Hayes and then sends him to the ropes -- waistlock -- overhead belly to belly suplex! Scott takes down Garvin with a Steinerline and then points to Rick. Scott lifts Hayes on his shoulders and walks over to the corner. Rick tags himself in and climbs the turnbuckles -- Steinerizer! The top rope bulldog by Rick! Rick makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Steiners (Via Pinfall @ 15:04; The Steiners win the NWA World Tag Team titles)

Match Rating: B+

[We have brand new NWA World Tag Team Champions! The Steiners are handed the belts and they raise them up in the air! Rick Steiner climbs one turnbuckle and Scott Steiner climbs the other. The belts are raised up in the air to a lot of cheers from the crowd. The Steiners drop down and look toward the ramp where a figure is standing. Two more figures come behind her.]

[it's Robin Green. The two men standing behind her are Butch Reed and Ron Simmons. Green motions toward the ring and the two men go running toward the newly crowned NWA World Tag Team Champions! A brawl breaks out between the two teams! Green comes down to ringside and Missy Hyatt takes off. Green laughs at her and Simmons takes down Rick Steiner with a clothesline. The two men go after Scott Steiner and hit him with a double shoulderblock and a double flapjack. Green claps her hands at ringside and then motions and the two men leave the ring, carrying her to the back.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ricflairc.jpg

[We head backstage through the use of the Turner-Tron for another interview segment. This one has the flash and flair of the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. Flair talks about how he has been distracted these last couple of weeks from what he needs to focus on but tonight is all about Terry Funk. Tonight, he would love to come out here and talk about Ric Flair, but he is focused on someone else at the moment. He is focused on the man known as his top contender. Funk, you've talked about my big nose. You've talked about my distractions like the girls but the fact of the matter is that I am a limousine riding, jet flying, kiss stealing, wheeling and dealing son of a gun! And tonight you're going to bleed, you're going to sweat and you're going to pay the price. And at the end of the night, to be the man, you've got to beat the man. And you're just not man enough. Whoooooo!]

Match #4

Al Perez vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[This match is another that was done surprisingly well. It is an above average match that saw a lot of showboating being done by Perez toward Missy Hyatt. Hyatt rejected every one of his advances. At one point in the match, Perez began charging toward Hyatt but Eddie Gilbert cut him off at the pass with a tackle from behind. At another time, Perez used Hyatt as a blockade so that Gilbert couldn't get to him. Toward the end of the match, Missy Hyatt climbed on the apron to distract Perez as Perez looked to hit Gilbert with the Brainbuster. Perez drops Gilbert and walks over to Hyatt. The distraction allows Gilbert to recover. Gilbert charges Perez but Perez moves! Gilbert manages to stop before he hits Hyatt but Perez rolls him up, using the tights: 1 -- 2 -- 3! A major upset victory!]

Winner: Al Perez (Via Pinfall @ 12:51)

Match Rating: C+

Match #5

#1 Contenders Match

U.S. Heavyweight Title Match

Lex Luger defends vs. Ricky Steamboat

[Following a video showing the history between Lex Luger and Ricky Steamboat, we head into the best match of the night so far. The crowd really got into this back and forth, open match. Early in the match, Luger clotheslines Steamboat and Steamboat goes over the top rope but he skins the cat. He pulls himself back in using the top rope and attacks Luger with chops! There were several near falls early on. At one point in the match, the referee gets bumped and Luger grabs the U.S. title belt. He comes back in and brains Steamboat with the belt! He slides the belt out of the ring and revives the referee, making the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! The crowd goes wild at the kickout! One fan holds up a sign reading: 'Million $ Body, 10¢ Brain!' The match continues and Steamboat manages to slide behind Luger when Luger goes for the Human Torture Rack. Steamboat catches Luger with a dropkick and then a scoop slam. Steamboat heads for the top turnbuckle -- Flying Cross Body! He hooks the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Ricky Steamboat (Via Pinfall @ 19:47; Ricky Steamboat wins the NWA U.S. Heavyweight title)

Match Rating: A

[We have a brand new NWA United States Heavyweight Champion and #1 contender in Ricky Steamboat! Lex Luger slams his hands down in frustration and rolls out of the ring as Steamboat is given the title belt. Steamboat raises the belt high in the air as the crowd goes wild at this victory. Could this mean a future Ric Flair/Ricky Steamboat match? Steamboat rolls out of the ring and walks toward the back as another man approaches him.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/oleanderson.jpg

[That other man is Ole Anderson! Anderson shoves Steamboat and then clotheslines him down while Steamboat's hands are busy holding the belt! Anderson puts the boots to him and then slams him head-first into the guardrail! The crowd boos this move by Ole Anderson! Anderson yells to Steamboat that he made a huge mistake! But another figure comes running out from the back.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/ricflairc.jpg

[The NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair is here! Flair shoves Ole Anderson back! The two men come face to face, nose to nose. Flair begins laying into Anderson with chops! The crowd goes wild! Flair kicks Anderson in the leg and Anderson goes down. Flair checks on Steamboat for a moment and when Ole Anderson gets to his feet, he actually moves around them and heads for the back, shaking his head angrily. But Ric Flair has been a man of his word!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/terryfunk2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/garyhart.jpg

[As officials check on Steamboat, we head backstage for another interview. This time Terry Funk and Gary Hart were standing within a locker room discussing strategy for Funk's match tonight against Ric Flair. Funk says that he doesn't need any help in beating that banana nose. Gary Hart agrees with Funk but says he will be down at ringside for moral support only. The two men shake hands and we head back to the ring.]

Samoan Swat Team vs. Road Warriors

[A very hard-hitting match between these two teams. It was more fairly open than one might have thought given these two teams. The Samoan Swat Team nearly scored a couple of pinfalls. But when the match got toward the end, it was complete and total domination by the Road Warriors. Paul Ellering takes down Paul E. Dangerously at ringside and inside the ring, both Samu and Fatu are taken down by double clotheslines. Animal signals for the Doomsday Device and lifts Fatu onto his shoulders. Hawk heads to the top turnbuckle -- Doomsday Device! Fatu went flipping over and over to the mat. Hawk makes the cover and hooks the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Road Warriors (Via Pinfall @ 16:59)

Match Rating: C+

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match

Ric Flair defends vs. Terry Funk

[This is our main event and this is a match that lives up to the billing of being the main event. The match starts off slow with a lot of strutting by Flair and Funk getting very frustrated. This frustration led to a near win for Flair as Funk walked right into a small package for a two count. At around the ten minute mark, Funk was in control and focused on bringing Flair to the mat and then outside the ring through the use of the Flair flip over the turnbuckles and a clothesline while Flair ran along the apron. Gary Hart distracted the official as Funk used a chair on the back of Flair, which the commentators discussed had been broken in an airplane accident years earlier. Funk brought Flair back into the ring and around the fifteen minute mark, he locked in the Funk Spinning Toe Hold! Flair cried out in pain but shook his head. He is not one to give up easily. Flair eventually was able to crawl to the ropes to get the break.]

[At around the twenty minute mark, Flair started to regain some control and focused on the knee and leg of Funk. He wrapped the knee around the ring post and at one point he even used a chair on it that Gary Hart slid into the ring for Funk while the referee was distracted. Flair tossed the chair out of the ring and maintained control. The Nature Boy bounced off the ropes and hit a diving knee drop on Funk, which caused Funk to cry out in pain. Flair looks at the fallen body of Funk and around the twenty five minute mark, he locks on the Figure Four Leglock in the center of the ring! Funk shakes his head but cries out in pain! He tries to turn the hold and also to reach the ropes but he can't get there. The referee checks on Funk...and he passed out! The referee calls for the bell. This match is over!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 30:29; Ric Flair retains the NWA World Heavyweight title)

Match Rating: A

[The bell sounds but it takes Ric Flair a moment to release the hold. Gary Hart slides into the ring but takes chops to the chest from Flair. Flair sends Hart out of the ring and the referee checks on Terry Funk before being handed the NWA World Heavyweight title belt. He hands the belt to Ric Flair and raises his arm in victory. Another figure begins walking down toward the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA-2/rickysteamboat2.jpg

[it's the top contender and NWA United States Heavyweight Champion Ricky Steamboat! The Dragon slides into the ring and comes face to face with the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The two men stare each other down and Steamboat offers a hand...Flair accepts! The two men shake hands and embrace in a hug! Flair raises Steamboat's arm and then Steamboat raises Flair's arm! The two top wrestlers in the world today celebrate inside the ring. Steamboat climbs the turnbuckles and Flair stares at him from behind for a moment. And we're out of time! We'll see you next week for World Championship Wrestling!]
