Loved the first roster overview I'm sure the rudos will be as interesting. When is this starting then? Mid 2010? love the presentation, it really fits some of the lucha sites I've read, I don't know but it seems to fit :p

I'm going to recap (rather than write-up completely) my July 2010 PPV (I'm doing six PPVs a year, rather than 12) and then start properly from the following SOTBPW Lucha Libre. Hopefully that way readers will get chance to learn a bit about the roster without being dumped in the middle of too many storylines.

And the style is very much a nod towards the lucha sites, so I'm glad you caught that :)

El Fuerza
(1,1)
- El Fuerza is the yang to Champagne Lover's yin. Close friends behind the scene, El Fuerza and Champagne Lover are the most bitter of rivals on it and their feud has been a joy to watch. The current Campeón de Mundo, Fuerza's charisma and awesome look make up for the fact that he's pretty bad when it comes to actually wrestling. More likely to stay than CL – which is probably part of the reason he now has the belt – El Fuerza, if booked correctly, could be a top star for years to come. After defeating Champagne Lover for the title, El Fuerza revealed that he was the mastermind behind La Alianza's recent attacks, potentially leading to an all-out stable war in the promotion.

El Demonio
(1,2)
- El Demonio is one of the greatest heels in recent lucha history, and has been champion of both OLLIE and SOTBPW in recent years. His role as the de facto leader of La Alianza Del Terror - the most feared and successful heel stable in Mexican history - has guaranteed him a place at the top of the card since its foundation in 2006. Most recently El Demonio has been in a feud with Ultimate Phoenix which culminated in Phoenix's 'enslavement' by the "Dark One". In recent weeks Phoenix has begun to rebel, but as we head towards what could only be described as a SOTBPW Civil War Demonio may have bigger things on his mind.

Caras Colleccion
(1,3)
- Caras Colleccion was a huge star in OLLIE in the early 90s, and he did a pretty good job in his first comeback in 2000 with MPWF. Since 2003 no one has seen or heard from Colleccion, but Jorge Ibanez pulled off a real coup convincing him to come to SOTPBW. Not the greatest wrestler in the company, Caras lives off his charisma, awesome gimmick (Caras wears the mask of his most recently defeated opponent to the ring, before taking it off to reveal his own) and name recognition. Rumour has it that Caras is a complete pain backstage, but he did put over Axxis Jr earlier in the year. Time will tell how much Colleccion wants to stay in the company knowing he's unlikely to enter the title scene.

Pirata Malvado
(1,4)
- Pirata Malvado is one of the fastest rising rudos in SOTBPW. His place in La Alianza was no doubt a reward for his hard work and fast in-ring improvements. In January, Malvado became a two-time Campeónes de Parejas alongside Verdugo Estupendo.

Enrique Merino
(2,1)
- "The Virus" Enrique Merino and his partner Tijuana Vampire have two of the greatest looks in Mexico. Two menacing rudos, neither wears a mask making the effect even greater. As Los Enfermos, Merino and Vampire are one of the most successful tag teams, and core members of La Alianza. They are famous for their double pinfalls - where both members pin at exactly the same time - winning matches much more quickly than their contemporaries. Los Enfermos "broke the neck" of Redemption's Del Muerto (who came back as Vincente Romero), in a moment that really kicked off the "Redemption vs La Alianza" storyline. Los Enfermos' on-off feud with Las Pesadillas has continued well into 2010.

Tijuana Vampire

.

Verdugo Estupendo
(2,3)
- Verdugo Estupendo - or Super Executioner - is definitely the muscle man of La Alianza. While his look (despite his menace) would probably hold him back in America, in Mexico his brutality sets him apart and he could definitely work his way to the main event with the right storyline behind him. Estupendo is currently Campeónes de Parejas with Pirata Malvado.

El Sucio
(2,4)
- El Sucio hasn't got the best look, or the best in-ring skills, but someone in power likes the zombie look-a-like. The current Campeón de Menor, El Sucio will no doubt benefit from his role in La Alianza, but whether he can translate that into real success in the long-term is yet to be seen. One thing is for sure, if he is to maintain the push he has been given he'll need to keep improving his wrestling skills - or his charisma.

Vincente Romero
(3,1)
- One of the worst kept secrets in lucha libre is that Vincente Romero used to wrestle as Del Muerto. The masked man's "broken neck" suffered at the hands of Los Enfermos started the Alianza vs Redemption storyline and allowed Romero to come back under his real name. Charismatic and a solid in-ring worker, that Romero is still only a midcarder is surpising. At 35 he is unlikely to ever make it to Campeón de Mundo, but he can certainly be a strong member of the roster for years to come.

Gonzalo Rubio
(3,2)
- Gonzalo Rubio originally worked under the Dark Majik mask, during which time he was in a five year struggle with arguably the most popular man in the company at the time - Magik. Dark Magik lost the subsequent mask vs mask lucha des apuesta, and Gonzalio Rubio began wrestling under his real name. A solid midcarder and little else, Rubio is happy to put over the younger stars and that is undoubtedly the reason he has stuck around so long.

El Pavo Real
(3,3)
- El Pavo Real used to wrestle under the name Pylea, and has wrestled the opening matches for all three major lucha promotions. In early 2010 he was brought back into SOTBPW where his solid work-rate will keep him in favour.

Ultra Spark Jr
(3,4)
- Ultra Spark Jr has certainly the potential to become a decent star for SOTBPW, though like his father he is unlikely to become a huge name in lucha libre. Unlike his father Ultra Spark Jr is a much more likeable individual - the original Ultra Spark is remembered for his attitude more than his successes in the ring.

Masked Superstar
(4,1)
- American Masked Superstar is a second-generation superstar with strong in-ring skills and charisma to boot. His identity is currently unknown - rumour has it that he worked a couple of dark matches for the company as an unmasked tecnico but fans turned against him because of the similarities between Superstar and his father. If the American sticks around he could become one of the biggest names in lucha libre.

Hysteria
(4,2)
- Hysteria is another member of the SOTBPW roster with good basics, but lacking in charisma. Young enough to still push towards the top, Hysteria has so far settled with focusing on the Trios titles - most succesfully alongside Los Enfermos, although he is not officially a member of La Alianza.

Reaper Dante
(4,3)
- Reaper Dante and Reaper Cicero are better known as killer clown duo the Circus of Death. Dante and Cicero previously worked in SOTBPW in the mid 2000s, before being released in 2008. A push for a greater tag and trios division since the turn of the year saw the Circus return and despite 8 losses, the pair have done a good job of making their opponent's look the part.

La Cebra
(5,1)
- La Cebra is known to be one of the youngest luchadors on the SOTBPW roster, rumoured to be 22. A consistency, and perhaps most importantly a charisma that surpasses many of his elders, La Cebra could potentially become a big star in SOTBPW. La Cebra has recently been paired with Hysteria.

El Alborotador Confiado
(5,2)
- Although still green, rookie luchador El Alborotador Confiado's all-round skills could see him become a big star in lucha libre in the next few years. Used largely in opening matches, or as the third man in a trio, Confiado continues to impress in his brief cameo appearances on Lucha Libre TV.

Demon Seed
(5,3)
- Reliable, with great stamina, and extremely safe in the ring. All good traits, but not the most exciting wrestler ever, Demon Seed is Canadian Duberry Excess, who also plies his trade in indy Canadian promotion 4C. A dependable opening talent, it seems unlikely that Demon Seed would choose Mexico over his native Canada, or America for that matter, should one of the big companies come calling.

Loving the re-rendered/re-imagined luchas. Not that he's C-Verse canon, but I kinda hoped Elemental XL would make it in... gotta love a fat comedy luchador. ;)

I've been considering a prediction contest where new masks are chosen by the winner for when the new renders are all released...perhaps Elemental XL will get a look in then!? :D

The renders are really amazing, really add to it, especially as you can easily put them on the correct background, they are super cool looking, and I loved the bios, even if the Masked Superstar's identity has me puzzled.

The Masked Superstar's bio has a few clues in it - just not as many as I could have given - and I have no reason for him to be a mystery other than I thought it would be fun :D I must admit, I'm not expecting him to stick around too long, but if he keeps improving at this rate you'll find out sooner rather than later :p

Los Enfermos are incredible.

I actually really like Vincente and Gonzalo too.

Thanks Blake. In case anyone wanted to know, of the Rudos the pictures of Reapers Cicero and Dante, El Pavo Real and Pirata Malvado were done by the great jtlant, Hysteria is the original in-game render and the rest are mine. :)

I've got... a pretty good guess, I think.

Spoiler-logic:

1. American

2. Second-generation

3. Strong in-ring skills and charisma to boot

4. fans turned against him because of the similarities between Superstar and his father

American, second-generation worker with strong in-ring skills and charisma, that the fans rejected as a tecnico because he was similar to his father?

I say it's Matt Keith. Sam was famous in Mexico years back, and won titles too - and the brothers are stated specifically to have similar styles to their dad.

More accurately, Blake has a fatal flaw in that the person they picked doesn't work in Mexico. Lolz.

I'm still going for it being AmEl. If it is...there's no way it is. But dammit, I love the guy.

That and it's totally Masked Avatar.

AmEl is definitely someone I want to bring in - whether he'd move I don't know. The fact Blake's initial pick doesn't work in Mexico must be the reason I chose the other - I can't remember that far back :p

He does look a little like Masked Avatar doesn't he? I assume you know he is actually based on the Bill Eadie character?

Make sense, it was one of two or three options I thought it could be.

Unfortunately for me, the number of workers that will actually work in Mexico isn't enormous. And it turns out getting to national south of the border is a lot harder than I thought :D

Oh dangit. See, I pretty much never play with restrictions on so I overlook things like that.

The fact you took the time to break the clues down is cool, Blake! You picked the wrong one, but the reasoning is entirely correct

Puzzles are fun. :3

Nice tag match, although the ending was a real let down. Verdugo Estupendo basically ripped Mexican Ghoul's mask off (which would have led to a DQ), but the referee didn't see it and instead counted out Pirata Morgan and Mexican Beast. Given that Las Pesadillas haven't really been in the title hunt, it is even more strange that they won the titles cleanly – it'll be interesting to see how this is tackled on next week's Lucha Libre.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Not much to say really, other than Cebra is really beginning to get used to the SOTBPW style. Cannonball Kid's victory was fairly comfortable, though, and Cebra is still a long way from getting a solid place on the card.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

El Sucio continues his Campeón de Menor reign with an okay victory over Aprendiz Jr. The fans didn't seem too involved in this one and I think the two competitors were affected by the lack of energy and so I'll have to mark the match down for that reason – the wrestling itself was a decent standard, and Sucio's double Plague Press finale was a fun way to end the contest.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

A short video played in which Champagne Lover taunted his nemesis El Fuerza. Not much to say really – it did it's job hyping our main event and Champagne Lover's charisma continues to stun.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ultimate Phoenix seems to have finally broken free from the powers of El Demonio and for us, the fans, it's a great thing – we get to see him team with Pablo again! Phoenix & Rodriguez won this one two falls to one, although Los Enfermos came very close to stealing the victory late on. Rodriguez got the first fall, before Tijuana Vampire's </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Blood Mist</em></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> blinded Phoenix, leaving him completely open to a </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>hurricanrana pin.</em></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Phoenix got his revenge in the twelfth minute with a </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Phoenix Firebird Splash</em></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> on Vampire.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>World of Lucha Rating: </em></span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em><strong>C+</strong></em></span></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

El Fuerza fought back in this segment, with a tough-talking promo about Axxis Jr. Why the writers chose Axxis Jr as a subject, and not Champagne Lover, I don't know – seems a bit daft to me – but Fuerza's time feuding with Lover has really helped him nail the promo technique. Not quite as good as CL, but he's nearly there.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>World of Lucha Rating: </em></span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em><strong>A</strong></em></span></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Capitão Brasil Jr, El Hijo Espada Roja & Velocidad </strong></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="font-size:8px;">(Captain)</span></strong></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong> def.</strong></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ultra Spark Jr, Vincente Romero </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;">(Captain)</span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> & El Pavo Real </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>to retain the Campeónes de Tríos SOTBPW titles</em></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The tecnicos team may be the most experienced trio on the SOTBPW roster at the moment, and that showed in this match. The rudos were a little clunky, leaving Brasil and Roja to hold the match together. Not a bad match, but not the classic trios encounter the belt deserves. Velocidad's pinfall on rudo captain Vincente Romero brought this one to a close early.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>World of Lucha Rating: </em></span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em><strong>D</strong></em></span></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Caras Colleccion returns to winning ways at the expense of Rebelde Loco. That said, the tecnico managed to put in a fine performance against a luchador whose bad attitude had appeared to be returning. Colleccion hasn't been in the finest form in recent weeks, but together with Rebelde Loco he managed to put together a match that will remind all lucha fans why Jorge Ibanez sought to bring him back at the beginning of the year. Loco definitely came out of the match looking strong despite the defeat – “Crazy Rebel” won the second fall of the match, while Caras needed the aid of a pair of brass knuckles to keep the tecnico down for the third.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>World of Lucha Rating: </em></span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em><strong>B-</strong></em></span></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Caras Colleccion continued the assault on Rebelde Loco well after the bell had been rung – cue the SOTBPW superman, Dos Águilas! In what has become a regular occurrence, Águilas broke up a post-match beatdown, celebrating with the few fans who know who he is. The man is awesome, but until at least half the fans in the arena jump up to clap him, you really need to keep Dos Águilas nearer the bottom of the card.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

A short video played hyping the main event. Good editing to put the video together, and it definitely helped put the various feuds over – beats the crap the SWF put out anyway!</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>World of Lucha Rating: </em></span></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-size:8px;"><em><strong>B</strong></em></span></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>El Fuerza def.</strong></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Champagne Lovevr, Axxis Jr and El Demonio </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>in a Four-Way Ladder Match to retain his Campeón de Mundo SOTBPW title</em></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Awesome, awesome, awesome! There may have been better matches over the last seven months, but I'd be hard-pressed to tell you where on that list I'd put this one. We haven't had a good lucha ladder match in a while, so I was pleasantly surprised to see one on the </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Verano de Lucha</em></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"> card. El Fuerza looked the most out-of-place, but even he managed to hold his own in the 30 minute bout. All four men grabbed hold of the title at one point or another, but it would take a jaw-dropping El Fuerza </div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Powerbomb </em></div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;">on Champagne Lover from halfway up the ladder (!!!) to keep the ring clear long enough for Fuerza to untangle his own belt.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Fairly standard PPV-ending fare as he match spilled out into an Alianza vs Redemption brawl. Pablo Rodriguez, Ultimate Phoenix, Pirata Malvado, Verdugo Estupendo, Las Pesadillas and Los Enfermos had all stormed the ring before the fun police had chance to clear them out. As expected, El Fuerza's arrogant, smiling face would be the final image of another excellent South of Border Pro Wrestling pay-per-view!</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<p>Sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week! Hopefully it was worth the wait - future shows will be more in-depth, especially about storyline development but really I wanted you to have a base event from which to work off going into the next two months of TV shows. I have a few questions for readers of <em>Verano De Lucha</em> - all answers will be a huge help going forward, so please respond here or in a PM if you have the time.</p><p> </p><p>

1) Adding pictures to the style of writing used for <em>Verano De Lucha</em> looks a bit odd. Do you find it difficult to follow the card without the use of pictures?</p><p> </p><p>

2) If you answered yes, would pictures in a card preview (the post from which you get your predictions) be sufficient, or would you want them in the actually card write-up?</p><p> </p><p>

3) Is there anything you'd like adding to the write-up which you felt was missing from <em>Verano De Lucha</em>?</p><p> </p><p>

Thanks in advance <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>I thought the write up was fine without pictures, it was clear and easy to read.</p><p>

Loved the show. El Fuerza and Champagne Lover should make for a great feud especially as it's two former best friends. Can't wait for the next one.</p><p>

Really easy to read, I love this style. No need for pictures in the right up IMO. Really like the review style <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

As you bring in new gimmicks, however, I'd love to at least see them.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I second this statement. Especially in Lucha Libre--the masks and whatnot would make things stand out.</p>

Maybe pictures to begin with then phase them out once we know who is who?</p><p> </p><p> I dunno, I'm probably just being stupid. But it does seem a shame to have rendered all of these beautiful masks and then not to use them!</p>
