WWF 1989: Where Sports Entertainment Comes Alive...Again!

-Welcome to my brand new WWF 1989 diary.

-The format of this diary will have a full writeup for Prime Time Wrestling, a medium writeup for Superstars and a brief writeup for Wrestling Challenge.

-As always, certain other companies will have their results posted in brief format.

-Kayfabe will be maintained within this diary so there is no backstory other than what the WWF has done up until September 1989.

-The one thing that I will bring up is that I have changed Prime Time Wrestling to become a live show run on Mondays.

-Usually, there is a squash format on most of the shows but TEW2010 is not entirely conducive to this format. So there will be some squashes on the shows but there will also be some major matches that normally you wouldn't see on WWF Prime Time Wrestling.

-The diary is coming soon.

This is definitely a great time period for the WWF, especially for the tag team division. I only hope that I can replicate the success of the real WWF.

Million Dollar Man vs. Bret Hart

I think Bret's still a tag man at this point in his career, and Ted DiBiase is most certainly a main eventer.

The Brooklyn Brawler vs. Tito Santana

Proper 80s wrestling - jobber vs star! I didn't mind Tito Santana, and he should have a fun feud with Rick Martel (it is at that point, right?).

Non Title: The Brainbusters vs. The Bushwackers

Even in a non-title match, The Bushwackers aren't going to beat Arn and Tully.

Bad News Brown vs. Barry Horowitz

Star vs Jobber.

Rick Rude vs. Dusty Rhodes

Probably the toughest one on the card to call - I'm going for Rude, simply because he'd find a way to win one way or another.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: Hulk Hogan defends vs. Macho Man

Too soon for a title change, but it should be a great match!

Comment: I say go with the guy with bigger potential here... Rhodes will always be looked at as a NWA guy, he can make Rude a star

Speaking of whom, while I'd love to see Macho take the strap back, I can't see it happening on TV. As I've said above, I'd like to see DiBiase get the rub... but there really are so many ways to go with the WWF at this point and time that I'm almost jealous of your freedom!

What I would like to have right now is for all you fat, ugly, out-of-shape Connecticut sweathogs to keep the noise down while I take my robe off and show the ladies what a real sexy man is supposed to look like. Hit my music!" [The crowd boos as Rude hands Heenan the microphone and moves to remove his robe, swiveling his hips to boos from the crowd. A pan of the crowd shows one fan with a sign reading: 'Fat Out of Shape Sweathog!' Obviously, this has caught on ever-so-slightly. Heenan exits the ring and the crowd cheers at the entrance of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes.] [The match itself was a very entertaining brawl with the American Dream and the Ravishing one having two entirely different outlooks on life. There was definitely something off about the match, though. It didn't seem like it was as good as it should have been. One of the big stories of the match was whether Rude could hook the Full Nelson on Rhodes or not. Rude tried several times throughout the match but Rhodes fought back during each attempt. It was a distraction from Bobby Heenan that led to Rhodes staggering back into Rude and Rude locking on the Full Nelson. He talks with Sherri for the moment as the music of the WWF World Heavyweight Champion begins to play. Hulk Hogan steps through the curtain but he is not alone. He has Randy's ex-wife Miss Elizabeth in his corner! The crowd goes wild at seeing her, even louder than before! Jesse Ventura complains at ringside about not even being able to hear himself think! Hulk Hogan makes it inside the ring and hands the belt to referee Earl Hebner.] [From the beginning of this match, both wrestlers show why they are two of the most well-known and popular and hated wrestlers in the world today. Macho Man took the advantage early on and tossed Hogan outside the ring. He distracted the official and Sensational Sherri raked her nails down the back of the Immortal one. The crowd boos this trick and Miss Elizabeth comes around, staring at Sherri. The Macho Man comes off the top turnbuckles -- flying double axehandle on Hogan! The crowd boos as the Macho Man turns and looks at Miss Elizabeth. Elizabeth slowly backs to the guardrail. Macho Man brings Hogan back in the ring and begins working him over, getting several near falls in the process. The Macho Man continues his assault as we near the fifteen minute mark in this match! He body slams Hogan down and heads to the top turnbuckle! Savage raises his arms -- Flying Elbowdrop! He connects! We should have a new WWF World Heavyweight Champion! Savage makes the cover:] [...1... ...2... ...3?!?] [NO! Referee Earl Hebner's hand is coming down for the three count when Hogan kicks out...with authority! The crowd goes absolutely wild as Hogan shakes his head. Savage looks angry and begins punching Hogan but Hogan no-sells the punches! Hogan gets to his feet and begins pacing around, taking blows from the Macho Man. He finally stands tall and points toward Savage, wagging his finger. Macho throws another punch but it's blocked! Hogan throws a punch -- punch -- punch! Hogan whips the Macho Man to the ropes -- Big Boot! Hogan cups his ear to the crowd, drawing in the cheers before he bounces off the ropes -- Leg Drop! Hogan makes the cover, hooking the leg:] [...1... ...2... ...3!] Winner: Hulk Hogan (Via Pinfall @ 16:49; Hulk Hogan retains the WWF World Heavyweight title) Match Rating: A [What a huge win for the man who is still the WWF World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan! Sensational Sherri yells and screams from ringside as the Macho Man rolls out of the ring. The Immortal Hulk Hogan is given the belt and he begins posing for the crowd of screaming and cheering Hulkamaniacs!
