Matches to make following UFC on FX 2.

by Chris Estrada.

With UFC on FX 2: Alves vs. Kampmann done, it’s time to look at matches to make after the event.

Thiago Alves vs. Diego Sanchez- Should Sanchez decide to stay in the welterweight division, a good fight for him, and the fans, is against Thiago Alves. Since fighting GSP, Alves has been unable to do much in the UFC, however he could try and prove all the haters with a victory over Sanchez and help him get back into the title picture for the UFC welterweight division.

Martin Kampmann vs. Brian Ebersole- Martin Kampmann has been a little disappointing in his last few fights, so a fight with rising star, Brian Ebersole, may help him get back on track or may help Ebersole reach the next level in the UFC.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson- Both Benavidez and Johnson won their flyweight tournament fight, so it would be a no brainier to put this fight together & both fighters would bring fireworks, making this fight a top contender for fight of the year, even though it has yet to happen.

Ian McCall vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani- The losers of the flyweight tournament semi-finals should face off, as it is the best option, and the one that makes the best opportunity for these two high-level fighters.

Court McGee vs. Aaron Simpson- McGee is slowly climbing up the middleweight ladder and a fight with Aaron Simpson is the best fight for both fighters, standings and style wise, as they both have a strong wrestling style with a

Constantinos Philippou vs. Buddy Roberts- A bout between Buddy Roberts and Constantinos Philippou would be a good match up for both fighters and the fans, as both of them love to strike and are currently on their way out of the promotion, should they lose their next fight. This fight would help Dana White do his job easier as he will just have to fire the loser.

Aaron Rosa vs. Loser of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira/Alexander Gustafsson- Aaron Rosa is making short strides up the Light Heavyweight ladder, and could get bumped up into the contender status if he were to beat the loser of the Lil’ Nog and Gustafsson fight.

James Te Huna vs. Tom Blackledge- James Te Huna is 2-2 in the UFC and Blackedge is 0-1, so a fight between these two could choose who stays in the UFC and who is given the pink slip.

If you guys could please provide me feedback, it would help me improve on this.

Thanks.

Like I said after UFC 144 event I like the set up and the use of twitter handles, the sherdog news is good too with the newsbits being a good length. As for improvements maybe a hype story of some fighters that have hot streaks in game or a champions bio.

Matches to make following UFC on Fuel TV 2.

by Chris Estrada.

With UFC on Fuel TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Nogueira done, it’s time to look at matches to make after the event.

Diego Nunes vs. the winner of Mark Hominick/Eddie Yagin- Going 2-2 in the UFC & 6-3 under the ZUFFA banner, Nunes has gone the distance in all of his fights with ZUFFA. Nunes could use a spark to help him reach his potential and a fight against the winner of Hominick and Yagin could do that. Hominick loves to stand and strike with his opponent, something Nnunes likes to do also. As for a bout with Nunes and Yagin, should Yagin beat Hominick, could tell which fighter is willing to continue fighting in the UFC and who isn’t.

Dennis Siver vs. Nam Phan- These two fighters have arguably the best body shots in the division, behind Mark Hominick, so why not pit these two fighters together to see who hits harder. This fight would also be not bad for the fans and ranking as both fighters are coming off a victory and love to strike.

Paulo Thiago vs. the winner of Rory McDonald/Che Mils- Paulo Thiago has been a hot and cold fighter, hot when he beat Josh Koscheck, cold when he faced Diego Sanchez. A good test for him, and his opponents would be a fight with him and the winner of Rory McDonald and Che Mils, as those two fighters are rising contenders and could take a new step in the welterweight division, should they face Thiago, and it would help Thiago see how good of a fighter he is against these contenders.

Alessio Sakara vs. Francis Carmont- Alessio Sakara, is and will be a gatekeeper in the middleweight division, used to see if a contender is as good as people say he is, and a good opponent for Sakara in his gate keeping role, is Carmont who won his second UFC fight tonight.

Brian Stann vs. Michael Bisping- Chael Sonnen’s last two victims love to stand and bang with their opponent, so why not put the two together in a fight and make fireworks. Stann lost to Sonnen via Triangle Choke, meanwhile Bisping lost to Sonnen via a close unanimous decision, so why not have these two strikers face off against each other?

Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva- With a victory over Lil’ Nog, Gustafsson made himself a credible contender, so why not give him a bout with a top level fighter Thiago Silva, who is coming off a suspension for failing a drug test.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Anthony Perosh- Lil’ Nog has been unsuccessful in his UFC career going, 3-3, and is looking like he could be a gatekeeper, so why not match him up with Anthony Perosh, who has gone 3-0 since dropping down to light heavyweight, with all of those victories coming via submission.

New York and MMA.

by Justin Ingalls.

Very surprising news today. The New York government has announced that they will start regulating MMA events starting in August, after the passed a secret bill.

A few minutes after the news was announced, Dana White tweeted, “Guess where we will be August 25. #UFCatMSG”

Matt Serra then tweeted, “looks like I am going to have to lose all this fat #UFCatMSG”

Dana White then tweeted again, “Jones/Evans vs. Hendo & Condit vs. Ellenberger 2 #UFCatMSG”

Jones vs hendo in game or real life would be nice.

The card right now looks like so,

Condit vs Ellenberger 2

Weidman vs Munoz (#1contender bout)

and to kick off the prelims, Serra makes his return.

I really hope Jones takes out Evans (IRL) because I want to see Jones chin tested against Henderson. I see Jones winning both fights though. Then he can drop to Middleweight and have at it with Anderson >_>

I'm enjoying this Damonster, KIU.

Not to hijack the dynasty, but there's no way Jones can make 185.

UFC on 145 pre-fight press conference notes.

by Brad MacDuggon.

Today was the pre-fight press conference for UFC 145, and here are some notes from the press conference.

UFC will be hosting two fan expos this year, first one will be during the UFC 148 weekend and the second one will be in New York for the UFC 149 weekend.

Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman will be fighting at UFC 149, with the winner getting a title shot.

Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez will fight at UFC on FX 3, for the Flyweight Title.

The rivalry between Jones and Evans got heated with this exchange:

Evans: “Jon Jones has never fought anyone that is good, he’s only fought cans.”

Jones: “Oh really, that’s why I choked out the only man to beat you, Lyoto Machida.”

Evans: “That was lucky.”

Jones: “Next you are going to say Rampage dropping you was lucky. Never did that to me.”

Evans: “He only dropped me because I knew I had the win in the bag.”

Jones: “Sure, who have you fought to get this title shot? Thiago Silva and Tito Ortiz? Wow that is an impressive streak.”

Evans: “Who did you beat to get the title shot? Vera, Bonnar and Bader. Wow that is just as impressive as mine.”

Jones: “And you are calling me a swagger jacker.”

Evans: “That’s because you are one.”

Jones: “At least I can come up with my own thing to respond to you, not say the exact same thing you said right before me.”

Evans: “I will beat your ass.”

Jones: “You’re gonna beat my ass?”

Evans: “Yeah I will beat your ass.”

Jones: “Wow now you are coping Rampage. Talk to me when you have something unique.”

Evans: “Don’t worry, I use my fist to talk.”

Jones: “Wow, then your talking must be really weak.”
