UJW UK Title Daniel Black Francis vs Danny Patterson

Patterson's a great monster heel, but I think DBF will find a way to beat him; if only by DQ.

Harley Neil vs Suicide Agent

I can't see both of the Cockney Rebels losing tonight.

Don Henderson vs Keith Adams

I don't see why Adams should beat a former champ.

UJW English Title Ian Davies vs Genocide Agent

DQ win maybe? I see interference playing some part in this match.

Christopher Lister vs Nigel Svensson

Slight upset Win? Maybe.

Dark Match - The Landlord vs Bali Daljit

Bali's grown on me, but sadly he has zero chance here.

A mismatch this one, as neither man gels with the other. Landlord dominates the bout with his power until he misses a clothesline. Bali uses his speed to take over, however he wipes out on a dropkick attempt. This allows The Landlord to put him away with the Eviction.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong>Beast Bantom and Roberto Milano vs Wade Orson and Inky The Squid Boy</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

A bonus tag match…bonus being the word that stands out. The action is decent when the Bantom/Orson combination isn’t in play – ironically the ones being pushed don’t work well together. In the end Ref Bailey loses control of the action and calls for the bell.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Davies is out of his depth here; Genocide runs over him from the opening bell with clotheslines and big slams. An escape attempt is foiled by a back suplex, while underhand tactics only slow down the big man’s offence. Sensing the title slipping out of his hands, Davies low blows Genocide Agent as he goes for the Hanging Powerslam; Bailey has no choice but to call for the disqualification.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Daniel Black Francis comes out to hype his title match against Danny Patterson</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#008000;"><em>“So now the big man wants a title shot? Svensson starts strongly – he knows that Lister can’t out wrestle him so he sets out to weaken the legs, taking away Lister’s speed advantage and agility. Lister is forced onto the defensive, using the ropes to break holds and striking when able. Svensson finally manages to apply a figure four in the centre of the ring, putting pressure on the weakened knees of Lister.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Lister to his credit keeps fighting, reversing the hold and opening up with lefts and rights on the Swede. Lister attempts the Dimension Jump, which Svensson counters with a shoulder ram into the corner turnbuckle. However Lister recovers to quickly surprise Svensson with a Whipper (Spencer Marks) Roll, 1 – 2 – 3!</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Thorpe looks like he wants to respond, but before he can Christopher Lister makes his way over to him from the back.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

No one’s expecting a scientific classic here and we’re not disappointed – the match begins in the aisle and goes around the ring twice before Suicide Agent throws Neil into the ring. Neil cuts off Suicide Agent as he enters the ring, beating the bigger man down with axehandles and kicks.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

A tired looking Suicide eventually makes a comeback, blocking a neckbreaker and hitting a neckbreaker of his own. Powerslam gets two, with Neil getting a foot on the bottom rope. As the crowd get behind the jaded Suicide Agent, Danny Patterson makes his way to ringside. Suicide hits the ropes for a clothesline, only for Patterson to trip him. Neil quickly drags the stunned Agent into an East End Piledriver (Stump Piledriver) for the win.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong>Winner – Harley Neil @17:46 (East End Piledriver following interference) </strong></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D-</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Don Henderson comes out for his match. Thorpe doesn’t even ask him if he wants to speak, slamming the mic into Henderson’s chest.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#FF0000;"><em>“Save your temper tantrum for Landlord Thorpe, or you’ll need new limbs as well as a new job. Francis, I’m tired of you ducking me. I was a fighting champion, to see you scrape by sickens me. It’s only a matter of time before I get you back in this ring and beat you for that title.”</em></span></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>E+</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Don Henderson vs Keith Adams</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Keith Adams goes straight at Henderson from the bell – a series of clotheslines in the corner flatten Henderson, who is then whipped to the other corner for a violent series of mounted punches. Adams then dedicates his next move to former partner Pigeon Mask; a huge right hook that sends Henderson through the ropes to the floor!</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

By now, Henderson is used to being battered at ringside and tonight is no exception. A body slam on the floor results in a sickening thud, that almost get the fans sympathizing for Henderson. Adams chops Henderson against the ring post, but then misses a kick with his bad leg, (injured against Ian Davies a few months earlier). Henderson quickly capitalises, throwing the incapacitated copper into the ring and attempting a Scottish Deathlock. Can Adams escape? Yes – a fantastic reversal sees Adams roll over and hook Henderson into a small package for a near fall.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Both men are going full out at this point. Henderson’s STO attempt is countered into a Right To Remain Silent, but as Adams looks to drop Henderson, the Scot drags Ref Bailey into Adams, causing the hold to be broken. Henderson quickly clips Adam’s bad knee, gives Bailey a phony apology then hooks the Scottish Deathlock on Adams to score the submission victory.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong>Winner – Don Henderson @22:19 (Scottish Deathlock after cheating) </strong></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

The Cockney Rebels come out, kindly taking mics so we can hear their thoughts on The Genocide Agents.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#FF0000;"><em>“Listen ere, right, men wearing make up ain’t cricket. Ain’t that right, Danny boy?”</em></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><em><span style="color:#8B0000;">“Course it is guv. Make up for men? Fussy, poncy, faffing about. </span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;">UJW UK Title</span></strong></span></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Daniel Black Francis © vs Danny Patterson</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

Francis starts at full speed here – he’s trying to wear Patterson out. A series of high flying moves rock Patterson, but Francis gets caught with a sidewalk slam. Patterson slowly begins to wear Francis down in the corner. He attempts a choke slam, however as Francis is lifted into the air, the champion is able to dropkick Patterson to the corner.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

This brings Harley Neil to ringside; at first he doesn’t get involved in the match. As Francis begins to build towards the Rasta Lock, Neil decides to make his move. Francis hooks in the Rasta Lock, Neil drags Francis near the ropes so Patterson can grab them. Patterson fights out of the hold, but gets drilled with a spin kick. Before Francis can make a cover, Neil drags him out of the ring for the DQ.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong>Winner – Daniel Black Francis @17:57 (DQ)</strong></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D-</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

The Cockney Rebels look to double team Francis, but before they can the other participants of next month’s 4 vs 4 match sprint out to brawl!</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

However, the crowd is focused on Francis – Don Henderson has jumped him from behind! </span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>E+</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

</span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="color:#0000FF;">Overall - A step down from recent shows, but with enough direction to be worthwhile</span></span><span style="font-family:Arial;"> </span><span style="font-family:Arial;"><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">D-</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Arial;">

UJW Spring Straightener 2011 live report by Dan Davies (Saturday Week 3 11:30)

So here we are at UJW’s April show, Spring Straightener – who will be leaving UJW, The Landlord or Colin Thorpe?

Dark Match

Bali Daljit vs Inky The Squid Boy

Both men are faces, so we get a good natured but sloppy match between the inconsistent Inky and the green Bali. Finish sees Inky evade a top rope splash then hit a weak Ink blot for the win.

Winner – Inky The Squid Boy @5:39 (Ink Blot) E

Main Show

UJW English Title Ian Davies © vs Christopher Lister

The crowd have been looking forward to seeing Lister get his hands on Davies for a while now – they are really up for this. Lister takes the fight to Davies from the bell, sending him to the floor and hitting a fine plancha to the champ. Davies manages to get some weak offence in while both men fight on the apron, but Lister shrugs off the chops, slingshots Davies back into the ring and hits a good springboard clothesline. Crowd erupt, as they know what’s coming – Dimension Jump 1, 2, 3! New Champ!

Winner – Christopher Lister @ 6.44 (Dimension Jump) D-

Daniel Black Francis comes to the ring to hype the main event

“So here we are again Donny…fighting again over the title in the main event. I’ll give you credit, you’re persistent. But so am I. This is my chance to prove that I am a fighting champ, that I will take on all comers." D-

Keith Adams, Wade Orson and The Genocide Agents vs The Landlord, Beast Bantom and The Cockney Rebels

The crowd are behind Thorpe’s team for this, booing the heels upon their entrance. This doesn’t stop the heels taking advantage straight away, using weapons to take control of the contest. The faces fight back, but the size of Danny Patterson in particular is too big an obstacle…until Thorpe gets involved! Initially hesitant, he finally snaps after a Thames Plunge on Orson. While Landlord gloats, Thorpe takes…a lead pipe from his jacket?!? He quickly feeds it to Genocide Agent, who takes down all the heels!

The faces re-group, sending the big men, Patterson and Bantom, into the cage wall. As Adams and Suicide isolate The Landlord, Thorpe throws a chair over the top of the cage…straight to Beast Bantom, who has recovered from the earlier cage attack. He drills Adams and Orson, then to Thorpe’s horror, throws Adams to Harley Neil. Neil quickly executes the East End Piledriver on Adams as Patterson drags Suicide Agent away from the action. Thorpe tries to scale the cage, but Bailey counts 3 as he gets to the top of the cage….

Winner – Landlord, Bantom and Cockney Rebels @10:53 (Neil over Adams via East End Piledriver) D-

Post match, The Landlord takes a mic

“Col, Col, Col…your shiny head must have distracted your team…what to do now-”

“-Just say it Landlord, we both know the result.”

“No…I want you to stay.”

“After…really? What..why?”

“Because we need a commentator for the rest of the show. As soon as the main event ends, I want your bald arse out my company.” D-

The high school projector is wheeled out again as a video hyping Walter Morgan is played E+

Special Challenge Nigel Svensson vs Walter Morgan

Special challenge means 20 minute time limit, pinfall or submission only. Both men are Wigan trained shooters, so this one promises to be a technical treat! Chain wrestling to begin, with Morgan taking control with a hammerlock. Hammerlock into a side headlock sees Svensson trapped, but he counters by rolling Morgan into a pinning predicament. Both men then stand, to an appreciative round of applause from the crowd.

Svensson then changes tack with a series of European uppercuts, leading to a nice clothesline. Quick pin gets 2, however Svensson can’t keep the pressure on – Morgan retaliates with his own European uppercuts and a hammerlock body slam. Morgan works the arm of Svensson for a while with an armbar. However, Svensson escapes with an eye rack and concentrates his attack on Morgan’s left arm.

Svensson uses the same armbar that Morgan was using on him a few moments earlier; while it’s effective, the crowd sense that time is running out and Svensson is looking for the hyper extension lock. So does Morgan – a quick escape leads to his own move, the Northern Crossface! Svensson writhes in pain, but as he debates tapping out, the time limit expires…Morgan sits up frustrated while the crowd shout for more time. Svensson bails to the floor clutching his arm, happy with the draw…

Result – Time Limit Draw @20:00 D+

Don Henderson heads out to the ring for his match. He surprises a miserable looking Colin Thorpe by asking for a mic…

“Thank you Colin. I’d like to say that on behalf of UJW Wrestling…you’ve been a waste of space and it’s good to see the back of you. Same goes for you Francis – I’m tired of your ‘Fighting Champion” label…a label you’ve given to yourself. Now you can’t dodge me anymore, we’ll see who the best ‘wrestler’ is.” E+

UJW UK Title Daniel Black Francis © vs Don Henderson

These two know each other well and both men come straight out of the gates. Henderson gets the early advantage with an arm wringer then an arm takedown, but Francis kicks him off and unloads with rights and lefts. Spin kick sends Don to the floor, baseball slide is dodged, Henderson tries for an Irish whip into the corner post – reversed! As Henderson staggers away from the ring post, Francis is able to give him a back drop on the floor!

Francis takes over at this point and it’s clear to see how far he’s come since beating Francis four months ago. His offence is smooth and quick, and he’s full of confidence. Henderson takes a beating for nearly five minutes straight, nearly losing to a sudden Dreadlock Drop. The crowd thought that was it!

Henderson fights back with his trademark kidney punches, expertly hidden from Ref Bailey. A weak back suplex only stuns Francis, but it allows Henderson to set up a STO, good near fall there. As Francis stumbles to his feet, Henderson applies a sleeper! There’s a struggle until Henderson is backed into the corner, Francis with a thrust kick, no Henderson has pulled Ref Bailey in front of him!

With Bailey down, Henderson quickly hits a low blow and applies the Scottish Deathlock on Francis! Henderson can hear Francis fading, but with no ref there’s nothing he can do. Eventually Bailey drags himself to his feet and calls for the bell! Henderson celebrates, until he realises that Bailey wants to DQ him! Francis is livid…he wants to beat Henderson fairly. Bailey orders the restart, both men tear into each other again. As Francis goes for the thrust kick again, Henderson drags Bailey in front of him – only for Bailey to duck the kick!!! Henderson, not expecting the kick, takes it right in the face and slumps to the canvas! Francis, seeing his chance, hooks in a Rasta Lock – Bailey, seeing that Henderson is unconscious, calls for the bell!

Winner – Daniel Black Francis @22:13 (Rasta Lock) D+

As Henderson is helped to his feet, Daniel Black Francis takes the UJW UK Title and jumps the guard rail into the crowd, celebrating with the UJW diehards at the front. In the background, Colin Thorpe simply gets to his feet and walks up the ramp… D-

Overall D A good show, with lots of questions to be answered. Has Thorpe gone? What will Landlord do next?

End of the Union? – Is Thorpe resignation work?

http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/ColinThorpe.jpg

Story and transcript by Dan Davies (Monday Week 4 April 2011 10:30)

In light of UJW’s statement from Sunday, I figured it was worth calling Colin Thorpe to see if he could shed any light on the situation.

DD – “Hello, Colin?”

CT – “Morning Dan, sorry I’ve not called you earlier-“

DD – “No problem. I think you know what I want to ask-“

CT – “Yes, I do. The answer is yes, I’ve resigned as UJW booker.”

DD – “Legitimately? Why?

CT – “Yes. The answer is simple – burnout. It’s been a great ride, but I’m tired and missing my family and friends.”

DD – “So it had nothing to do with The Landlord? I had heard that there was tension between you both?”

CT – “There was, over money and some of my hiring decisions. I cleared the air before I left though. Ultimately, I had taken UJW as far as I could. When I admitted that to (Landlord) then we stopped arguing and began looking to the future.”

DD – “What does the future hold for you and UJW?”

CT – “For me, more time at home with my wife and son. For UJW? I don’t want to ruin anything-“

DD – “Just a hint?”

CT – “Ok, and that’s all you’re getting! Well, Landlord has a new booker lined up, fantastic choice too in my opinion.”

DD – “Excellent news, as UJW has come a long way over the past sixteen months, be a shame to see that stop. Any last words?”

CT – “Yes – I’d like to thank Landlord for letting me live one of my dreams, Tim Reed for making me laugh every time we announced and finally, the fans. Without them, we’ve got nothing."

DD – “Wise words indeed. Well, Col take care of yourself and all the best for the future!”

CT – "Thanks! I’ll still be attending UJW shows as a fan so there’s a drink on me if I see you.”

DD – "Fantastic! Well, I’ll keep my eyes open for you next show. Take care, see you later.”

CT – “Later Dan, bye bye.”

...and that's a wrap. I thought it would be interesting to have actually have Thorpe resign in game and see how things turned out in Britain, say a year later.

May 2012

UJW - Adam Garcia took over as new booker and has done a great job. Sell out cards (att 300, twice my attendences) good cards (Jack of Hearts 2012 got C) and a much improved roster (in - DJ Reason and Rolling Johnny Stones, out Bali, Ian Davies and Inky) In short, Garcia should have wrote this dynasty :D

Title wise, Danny Patterson is in the midst of a 8 month UK Title reign and still tag champ with Harley Neil (1 defence in a year and a half). Christopher Lister is still English champion.

21CW - It took over two years, but Jonathan Faust finally ended Joss Thompson's World title reign (after 31 defences). 21CW's roster is a mix of names (Thompson, Faust, Stoat etc) and graduates (Bedlam, Joe Simpson, War Machine) They still average C- for PPV's, same as UJW and HIW.

ROF - Now Regional, ROF has an excellent roster. The stalwarts like O'Curle, Billy Robinson and Morgan have been joined by Leo Price (now ROF Champion), Edward Cornell and Daniel Black Francis. B- cards are a regular event, though they still depend too much on Merle O'Curle (in 8 of their 10 best matches).

MOSC - Nothing's really changed in MOSC. Only really item of note is DJ Reason is now their Champion, with Jeffrey McPeterson stuck with the Beer and Blood title. Danny Patterson features in all ten of their best matches...without him and Harley Neil they would have gone under.

HIW - Now back up to Small size, HIW still have an insanely good roster (Nate Johnson?!?) They now put shows on every month too...

So, in closing, thanks to every one who read, commented, posted predictions and nominated/voted for this diary in DOTM contests. :)
