End of TEW10 Awards: Forgotten Candidates

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be putting my nominations together separately, but I thought I'd take some time, here, to dig through the archives and compile some standouts from the TEW10 diaries.

Others are, of course, welcome to contribute.

Memoirs of a booker: The Joshi Trilogy by Yuu Onuki:

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80587

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174910

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327528

Great presentation and a spotlight on an often-neglected portion of the C-Verse.

The NWA: A Return To Glory by Wildfire1324

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514195

I've nominated this guy for the HoF before. I don't read many RW diaries but this one grabbed me early on, for whatever reason. While a lot of the standout moments from his work I remember I believe are from TEW08, he's continued quality over a long haul.

Burning Hammer: Stepping Into The Inferno

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91072

Tigerkinney's DIASPORA work continues to entertain, but let's not forget a sustained piece of exciting faction warfare featuring an unexpected heel turn and the debut of Mr Macho Eiji Hamacho and Erisbet-chan!

KANZEN Pro Wrestling: Seriously Entertaining by The LeviticalLawKid3

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306958

I've picked my favourite of TLLK3's diaries to hype up here; this is probably the shortest of the ones I'm going to nominate, but I had a real fondness for the specific way he played off CHIKARA antics.

The Johnny Heizenger Story by codey

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175772

This edition of the game's epic, sprawling multi-year MAW diary.

Cedar Rapids Wrestling by Clarity

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106236

Completely unlike the other diaries I've cited; stripped to the bone, simple stuff, with a fan interaction concept nobody else duplicated. Also the longest-running diary its creator produced, which in my eyes will always earn props.

21st Century Boys by Boltinho

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510970

AND

The Fearsome Bunsen in the UK - HIW by Boltinho

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152480

These two diaries represent probably the high water mark of UK C-Verse diaries in this iteration of the game, and deserve recognition.

TCW: Tuesday Night Wars by Bigpapa42

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82514

A good diary that ran a good long time before coming to an end, hanging a great characterisation on Rocky Golden while it was at it. "The Tank" would be my pick for the Rocky Maivia award, except that that's in one of the diaries I'm coming to.

God Bless Texas - 77 CVerse by ajcrible

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152678

I enjoyed this enough that chunks of it became canon for my TCW diary, and aj was nice enough to include a couple of behind-the-scenes pieces Eric Tyler that returned the favour. But on top of this, it captures the spirit of the era and style, up to and including masked jobbers and a car won in a battle royal.

New York City Wrestling: Old School Lives On by 1PWFan

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514882

And this one here has my Rocky Maivia candidate. Again, it's just a really good example of sticking to the format and product, with just enough tweaks to be worthwhile, and a sense of the wrestlers as people more than as numbers to be arranged in optimised combos.

A well-earned blush, though, PS.

I had actually somewhat forgotten how outstanding the '77 God Bless Texas diary really was. It seemsl ike it was so long ago. To be honest, even looking at my TCW project surprised me. I always think of that one as a short-lived project but it went for longer than I realized. Feels like it was a long long time ago, but less than two years ago. It seems like a few of these projects ran "ages" ago, but really not at all.

Return to Glory is one of my all-time favorites, and is in fact what inspired me to try writing my own diary. I'm not sure how much of it actually took place during the TEW2010 era, or on TEW10 itself. Still, I'm glad it was mentioned, if for no other reason than to introduce it to people who may have missed it up until now.

The link I've got is to the sequel, which was started in 2011.

Did some digging today. Man there has been so many really good diaries during these years but here´s some of my favorites that haven´t been mentioned yet:

Dragonmack´s The David Mack Chronicles: NYCW- The Homecoming http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75205

Well written diary that did go for a long time. Would probably be my choice of Best Kayfabe-Breaking Moments thanks to the fact that Dragonmack took time to comment after every segment why he booked this match/angle after every segment and how did they do compered to his expections.

Totti´s WWF 1998: What if Bret had Stayed? http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51187

Not sure if this is actually 2008 diary (it seems to start before 2010) but since I found it in TEW2010 diaries I list it here anyway. I don´t read that many real world diaries but this one captured me quite quickly and I would probably consider this as the best real world diary that I have read to this day.

Rathen4´s Australian Pro Wrestling http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296088

There is suprisingly many good Australian diaries when you start looking them all but I picked this one since it´s one of the longer and better made ones that I have read.

Comradebot´s WBW: Why No One Cared About Wrestling In Europe

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198672

And WASA: Why No One Cares About Wrestling in South Africa

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509307

Sadly both of these are quite short but they are still really enjoyable and well presented diaries. Well worth anyone´s time.

Foolinc´s TEW 108: I Can Be A Booker!? http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59486

Despite this one being in TEW2010 diary forum, it´s likely isn´t available for nomination since I´m pretty sure it was actually TEW2008 diary (I think it was meant to continue in 2010 but never did). The reason why I put it here is that it´s quite unique diary and one of the main reasons why I signed in these boards in the first place was because I wanted to take part on predicting in this diary.

Correct :) Actually thinking of something similar once TEW2013 comes out on demo...

I also can't heap enough praise on this one, so while it may not be eligible, I'm throwing a vote of support behind it anyway as well.

First, while I never once posted anything on this one, I was reading it before I had ever played a single game of TEW. I stumbled across it on a random Google search, and it was the diary that made me think "hey, maybe I should try this free sample of TEW 2005 to see if it is any good."

It is also because of this diary that I generally only play small feds or 0/0/0/0s.

Both entertaining (both great writing and great involvement from the board) and educational. I know I use the Foolinc model (if not his product settings) for developing all my 0/0/0/0 promotions... even if he and I would disagree on a few of my hires.

WWF 1989: Kayfabe Returns by TheBlake

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509549

This guy really had a handle on the interview style from 1989. He may end up having my pick for best promos.

USPW: Where Ages 68 and Older Still Won't Retire by J Silver

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90026

Do I even need to say anything? This guy is a legend in USPW circles.

Yikes. High praise PS and thanks v much. Im just sorry I ran out of time to finish my 21CW diary. The end-of-year show was going to be amazing.

Some great links in here to other projects. Well done everyone - we produced some great stuff

I've brought up several other diaries on here for other people. Now, it's time to do a little, brief tooting of my own horn.

NWA 1989: Tradition To Innovation

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105618

A fun little diary where I turned Sting heel. At Starrcade, I remade the Four Horsemen as well with Ric Flair, Sting, Barry Windham and Lex Luger.

USPW - What? This Again?

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157471

My longest-running diary on TEW2010 at just short of 7 r/t months. Darryl Devine eventually wins the USPW World title. Enygma is unmasked by Acid in what was considered the match of the year here on the boards.

USPW: A Slow Ride To The Top

http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72945

I am pretty sure that this was the first diary here on the TEW2010 boards. It ran just short of 6 months. Sammy Bach debuts in USPW. The Hard Corps are the top stable.

Speaking of tooting your own horn..

What about all the people that contributed into the diaries? Belt makers, renderers, logo designer, alt makers.. I alone did thousands of alts for TEW2010 and Skin packs too. My diaries didn't last very long though which is kinda sad but honestly I would be very disappointed if I don't see the names of the likes of ReapeR, Kamchatka, JesterX and others included somewhere in these awards.

And ofcourse FINisher. :p

Giving this a bump as well.

I am very thankful for ALL of the renderers, logo designers, etc. They really help to immerse people into not only the game but the diaries as well. However, with less than two weeks until the nominations are over, I'm not exactly sure how we can get everybody in. Because you could also include the people who participated in the prediction contests in that as they have helped keep people motivated with their diaries.
