CGC: The Best-Acted Wrestling Program on Television

It's a universally acknowledged truth that the end of kayfabe is the biggest change between classic and modern wrestling. Nobody can quite pinpoint when it happened -- some people say it was Nemesis/Cornell in '97, though that's really more a case of them pinning one big thing on another big thing from the same time frame. Some point at the change starting with No Way Jose's interview on Letterman in '98, and that's a bit more defensible. But really, it's been bubbling up since the early '90s.

In any event, it wasn't until the late '90s when promotions really started having to grapple with the end of kayfabe or risk being left behind. There's been a few different ways people have tried it, though. SWF and USPW ramped up the unreality, figuring that as long as everyone knew wrestling was fake, it might as well be as fake as possible. But this cartoonish approach has its limits -- the constant soap-opera plot twists, slapstick comedy and implausible match finishes really make it impossible to get engrossed in the underlying matches. Nobody watches wrestling BECAUSE it's fake.

Another approach was taken by NOTBPW in Canada -- as well as by my first company, DAVE. You don't hear those two grouped together too often, but the attitude of the former can be boiled down to, "sure, the matches are pre-determined, but how can you call it fake when these guys' athletic feats are so hard to do?" Whereas the hardcore company is more like, "sure, the matches are pre-determined, but how can you call it fake when that guy just tore the other guy's back open with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire?" Both approaches have a lot of the same problems -- when you re-focus the fan's attention from the match to the physical difficulty of the performance, it becomes something more like an athletic exhibition or a freak show. To say nothing of how taxing both these approaches are on the men in the ring...

When I started out, I was really into the hardcore approach. Maybe I just saw too many of my friends battered, maybe it was a passing fad. (And if you look at the business today, it seems it was a passing fad for a lot of people.) These days, I prefer a third approach, and that is to mostly ignore it. Yes, everyone knows that wrestling is fake now.

But who else do we hold to that standard?

Nobody turns off the TV saying "hey, that guy's not a real cop". Nobody storms out of the movie theater complaining that the actors didn't REALLY get shot. If you stop thinking of wrestling as a real sport that can be "fake", and start thinking of it as a serialized drama about wrestling, you get around virtually all the problems. And as an added bonus, if you present it that way, you get all the kids who DON'T know it's fake.

Long story short, that's why I went out for the CGC booker job, and that's why Alex DeColt hired me. CGC and TCW are the two North American promotions who tend to stick with this attitude -- Alex likes to call us "the best-acted wrestling program on television." It's been a relatively soft landing so far, with the usual hiccups but no major trouble. Check it out.

CGC TITLE BOUT WRESTLING - SUNDAY, JANUARY 3, 2010

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/MitchNaess_alt1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AdrianGarcia.jpg

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! I am Mitch Naess, and this... is Title Bout Wrestling! Live from DeColt Arena in Vancouver, we've got a great set of matches for you folks. With me is my partner, Adrian Garcia... what have we got in store tonight, Adrian?"

"Well, in the main event, Alex DeColt faces off against Ricky Powell. Yeah, DeColt is a four-time CGC champion -- but Powell has been very hot lately. He's won five straight matches in the last two months, and it looks like he could make the leap into championship contention."

"An exciting match indeed. We also have Shane Nelson matching up against Shooter Sean Deeley."

"I have to tell you, Mitch -- you're new here. This is a really lopsided match. Nelson is unfocused, he doesn't try very hard, whereas Deeley is one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the world. He's a former amateur champion, he knows every trick, and he's rising up the card very, VERY fast."

"He's also a man you manage, right, Adrian?"

"Yes, he is -- he's the new blood in ELITE. But I wouldn't be managing him if I didn't feel that he had a chance to be the best wrestler CGC had to offer. We've also got Gargantuan in action."

"Now, I've only been working here for a couple months, but I HAVE seen Gargantuan, and I feel sorry for his opponent Christian Price."

"Yes. Gargantuan is a mystery -- nobody knows who he is, nobody knows what he wants, but let me tell you, Mitch -- he is a flat-out monster. I don't think anyone expects Price to be competitive in this match -- he's a good young wrestler, but he is not prepared for this."

"And the opening match is a title defense... Zeus Maximilian and Stevie Grayson put the tag belts on the line against Vin Tanner and Ozzie Golden."

"Yes -- that's an interesting team, Tanner and Golden. One of the most experienced wrestlers in the company and one of the youngest. They're calling themselves the North American Blonds, and they're making their debut as a team tonight."

"Your prediction for the match?"

"Well, Mitch, I like Vin Tanner. I like Ozzie Golden. I don't know that they have the experience as a team to take the title now, but you could have said the same thing about Zeus and Stevie six months ago, and now look at them. Lightning could strike again."

"Fair enough. Now we head to the ring, where Phil Vibert has an announcement."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_PhilVibert.jpg

Vibert stands in the ring. The fast-talking sports agent has made a few appearances in the last couple months, seemingly scouting the wrestlers, but hasn't really tipped his hand as to what he's doing. The fans who know him from DAVE are suspicious, but most CGC fans don't know DAVE either way.

"Good evening, Vancouver. I am honored, and honestly excited, to present to you my first client in the Canadian wrestling business... a man who I feel can become one of the greatest names in wrestling today. He's a fine athlete with the commitment and focus to succeed -- a former Canadian Champion, a former Tag Team Champion, and a future CGC World Champion. You can see him in tonight's main event... ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Powell!"

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_RyanPowell_alt1-1.jpg

Powell comes out to a chorus of boos -- which, as usual, he doesn't even acknowledge. But his manner seems... different somehow. Less brash, less excited, more confident.

"Hey, everybody! I'm looking forward to working with Phil. He's a guy with a lot of experience in the wrestling business, and I think working with him will take my game to the next level. I'm looking to keep my momentum up tonight against Alex DeColt, and earn a world title shot. I've just got to keep moving forward, giving maximum effort, and executing the plans, and everything else will fall into place. I want to thank all my fans, and promise them a good show tonight!"

Seemingly oblivious to the torrent of boos, Powell exits the ring, accompanied by his new manager.

TAG TITLE MATCH: GRACE OF GOD © vs. NORTH AMERICAN BLONDS

Despite Garcia's predictions, this is a very one-sided affair -- Zeus and Stevie outclass Vin and Ozzie both individually and as a pair. Vin tries to at least keep things close with some meat-and-potatoes brawling, taking some hits in order to soften up the opposition, but it's not an approach that meshes well with Golden's overly fancy, light-hitting style. Once Zeus gets a hold of the younger man, it's all over pretty quickly.

Grace of God win by pinfall, retaining their titles. MATCH GRADE: 52

Mitch Naess: "An impressive showing for the champions. Don't forget -- they'll be at CGC Elimination, less than two weeks from tonight, facing off against the Soldiers of Fortune and a mystery teammate in a six-man elimination match. It's a night of large-scale battles between your favorite wrestlers on January 15."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ShaneNelson-1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_JennyPlaymate-1.jpg

We cut to a backstage area, where Shane Nelson is on the couch, watching cartoons on TV. His manager and girlfriend, Jenny Playmate, enters the room from the back.

"Shane?"

"What's up?"

"You ready for the match?"

Shane rolls his eyes. "Yes, Jenny."

"Okay... sorry. This is just an important one, you know?"

"I know. I'm okay. It'll be okay. I love you."

"Okay... remember, when Deeley gets you down, he's going to circle to the left of you, and that's when he's going to try to put on the armbar. We watched the tapes, remember? He always goes to the left before that move."

"Yes, yes, I know! let me focus... I love you, Jenny. Sorry."

"I love you too, Shane. I just know you have the talent to win, and I want you to win so much."

"All right. We can do this. We're gonna make it this time."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ChristianPrice.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_Gargantuan.jpg

CHRISTIAN PRICE vs. GARGANTUAN

Like most of Gargantuan's fights, this one was quick, violent, and very one-sided. A series of mighty punches gave way to a couple slams and a clothesline. The enormous chokeslam that finishes the match would almost qualify as an act of mercy if it wasn't so devastating. Gargantuan pins his opponent, then stalks menacingly to the back as the paramedics rush in to check on the prone Price.

Gargantuan defeats Christian Price by pinfall. MATCH GRADE: 40

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_JackDeColt.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AlexDeColt.jpg

We're back in the DeColts' locker room, and Jack looks worried.

"I don't like that Vibert character. What's he doing hanging around Powell?"

"Don't worry about it, Jack," says Alex. "He's a sports agent -- a lot of wrestlers have them these days for business purposes."

"He's sneaky. He just... seems like a weasel. So oily."

"Weasels aren't oily. Maybe you're thinking of otters?"

"Yes, Alex. That's clearly what I meant -- Phil Vibert is an otter. Y'know, I'm sick of you being such a pushover -- Powell is a jackass, and he's bringing in someone to cheat on his behalf. We do not need this, especially when we're getting ready for battle with ELITE."

"A pushover? What do you want me to do? Drive one of the best wrestlers in Canada out of CGC? Throw out a manager who has done nothing wrong? Would you just once hold off on demanding that we interfere with fair competition?"

"Well, if we don't, they will."

"Well, they haven't. And if they do, we'll worry then. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a match to get ready for."

And we're back at the announce table with Adrian Garcia. "Harsh words from Jack DeColt. The First Family of Canadian Wrestling, already taxed by the threat of ELITE, looks rattled by the potential of Ryan Powell."

"Well, it's Alex DeColt who needs to worry about Powell, and he looks as calm as ever. Next up, though, it's your friend Sean Deeley -- and the Shooter is taking on Shane Nelson, who's been slightly adrift since the breakup of Youth Energy."

"Yes, sir... Nelson is mentally weak. It's clear that the Thrill Seeker, Lee Rivera, was the heart of that team -- Nelson's girlfriend Jenny is trying to fill that leadership role, but she can't get in the ring and fight Shane's battles for him."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ShaneNelson-1.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ShooterSeanDeeley.jpg

SHANE NELSON vs. SHOOTER SEAN DEELEY

Early on in this match, Nelson tries to take to the air, but Deeley uses his technical skills to keep the smaller man off-balance and grounded. Nelson hits a couple strong kicks, but Deeley partially blocks the third and goes back on the offensive.

Their styles are an awkward fit -- Nelson, who's used to working faster, has to throw a hitch into his movements in order to ensure that Deeley can catch him up and keep him from using his mobility. Eventually, Deeley takes Nelson down and works his leg over to make the herky-jerky timing a little more plausible, but it's still not great.

Following a couple more minutes of back-and-forth action, Deeley brings Nelson to the ground. As Jenny said, he circles to the left of Nelson -- but Nelson reacts too late and fails to evade the stretch armbar. Deeley is pulling the hold further and further -- and Nelson has to tap to avoid injury. Deeley celebrates while Nelson and Jenny embrace in the corner -- they're making the best of it, but this was a frustrating loss.

Shooter Sean Deeley defeats Shane Nelson by submission. MATCH GRADE: a disappointing 51.

Adrian Garcia: "Nelson continues his slide, while Deeley just keeps looking stronger. He's got the mind of a veteran and the body of a man in his prime."

Mitch Naess: "An impressive win for Deeley. And remember, you can see him alongside Eddie Chandler and Dan DaLay in the main event of CGC Elimination on Friday night, January 15, as they face off against the DeColts. Also on the card, the Specialists and Youth Energy reunite for the first time since last year. Bobby Thomas and Nate Johnson team up with Nathan Black to take on Thrill Seeker, Shane Nelson and Whippy the Clown. Six men enter, one man leaves at CGC Elimination."

Adrian: "Yes. Also on the bill, a six-man elimination between Next up, it's the main event: Ryan Powell and his new manager Phil Vibert. Powell faces a tough test in Alex DeColt -- a three-time CGC champion and the President of CGC."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AlexDeColt.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_RyanPowell-1.jpg

ALEX DeCOLT vs. RYAN POWELL

This is a good, solid back-and-forth match between two men who aren't always at their best in the ring. Powell does a great job of selling his new, less egotistical, more focused approach -- there's very little showboating, very little playing to the crowd. DeColt plays the brawler, and Powell darts in and out, scoring quick hits. The few times DeColt manages to catch him, he hits hard, though... the match looks very even, but given DeColt's more explosive style, it seems likely he'll score the pinfall before Powell does.

That's true until 14 minutes in, at least. A sweaty Powell retreats to his corner, reaches for a towel, comes back into the ring, and clocks DeColt HARD on the temple. The ref is on it immediately -- Powell has a set of brass knuckles. DeColt is down, the match is thrown out, and Vibert leaps into the ring, He's not arguing with the ref, though -- he's furious with Powell. As the announcers sign off, the DeColts sprint down to the ring to check on their brother, who seems shaken but fine, while Powell and his new manager are arguing all the way back up the ramp.

Alex DeColt defeats Ryan Powell by DQ. MATCH GRADE: 65.

"And that's all for tonight, folks! Join us next week for the last show before the Elimination pay-per-view -- Jack and Ricky DeColt face the Easy Riders, plus Dan DaLay vs. Zeus, and Eddie Chandler faces Ed Monton! I'm Mitch Naess, and for Adrian Garcia and the whole crew, I say goodnight!"

OVERALL SHOW GRADE: 64.

OOC (and this will not happen all the time):

This is my CGC. I'm almost 3 months into the game, and almost two and a half months into writing. I wanted to make sure I'd stick with the dynasty, because I've made a few failed attempts before, so I told myself I'd wait until I had a backlog of 12 events to start posting.

So here it is -- my journey into DeColt Country. Everything's pretty much default Cornellverse, except for a couple minor eccentricities on the US scene, which I forgot to delete from the database and which we may or may not have to get into. I'm excited -- the game's shaping up to be pretty interesting, and I have easily another three months of plotlines already. I suppose it'll keep growing as I keep moving.

Anyway, I'm going to be looking to crank out the first month of shows here this week, so as to give the people some idea of what's going on...

And before I begin, thanks to all the creators of all the alt renders I have used and will be using. Thanks to the writers who've kept me here for years, including but not limited to Phantom Stranger, NoNeck, Monkeypox, J Silver, Shipshirt, Scapino... and thanks to Adam Ryland for giving all of us a world to tell stories about.

I see you did the same thing I did in the personal CGC game I started a couple weeks ago. Dumped their crappy announcer and bring in Mitch Naess.

Not only do you get an upgrade, but it makes Phil Vibert happy.

As I am about 5 months in to my game ( just finished both days of the DeColt wrestlefestival this weekend) I'll be following along to see where yours goes in comparison to mine.

Oh, and if you haven't learned already, don't use Gargantuan in matches till his overness is higher and he can be protected in with your upper level and main event workers if you really want to get decent scores from him.

I basically had him monster unleash ( making the victim unrated for lower level roster members) his way up the roster till his momentum and popularity put him firmly in the upper card, then I could throw him at the DeColts. I also had a manager bidding war for him between Phil Vibert, Adrian Garcia, and The Guru, who I brought in from CZCW. They really help him get his entertainment skills up.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, the first couple months are rough in terms of match ratings, but I think I'm getting the hang of things circa March. I still wouldn't expect us to surpass NOTBPW any time soon, though. Not as long as they can keep trotting out combinations of Stone, Stone, Bloodstone, McFly, Steve DeColt out there every main event. (With occasional appearances by Owen Love, the Natural, RK Hayes, and... that's all. Through three months, that's everyone who's appeared in a main event. Not to be the 13,000th person to complain about NOTBPW's main eventers or anything.)

And trust me, I've endured the sorrow and frustration that is the wrestling career of Gargantuan. (For now, at least. He's actually got really good potential, which is a matter that comes into play in the near future.) He's not the biggest problem I've faced so far, if only because his near-future career path mostly involves him beating up on midcarders occasionally, squashing veterans in dark matches constantly, and staying out of the main and semi-main.

In any event, a lot of the early matches are fairly predictable, as these things tend to be. And this one is right before the PPV, so if anything, it's more predictable than most. Still, I thought I'd throw out the card for the last pre-Elimination show in case anyone wants a crack at it. This show should be up tomorrow...

Cgc Title Bout Wrestling - Sunday, January 10, 2010

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/CGC.jpg

http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/?action=view&current=CGC3.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_JackDeColt.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AlexDeColt.jpg

Following the opening credits montage, the show opens on Alex and Jack DeColt in the ring. Jack speaks first.

"As you all know, my brother was attacked last week by this man -- Ryan Powell." A picture of Powell appears on the Jumbotron, followed by footage of the hit that disqualified him. "We are appalled by his actions, and rest assured, we will not take this lightly. We will not take this lying down. When I saw what happened last week, I decided I would not rest until Ryan Powell and Phil Vibert were driven from CGC."

"But cooler heads have prevailed," says Alex, speaking in full-scale CGC President mode. His temple is still bruised where Powell hit him last week, but he's unflappably calm. "I too have no intention of taking this lightly -- Powell blatantly cheated. That is wrong, and rest assured, it has harmed his standing in this company. But Powell is one of the best wrestlers in Canada. And regardless of his personal reputation, he is not a man with a long history of cheating. As for his manager, Phil Vibert, we have no reason to believe that he was involved in this incident in any way. It is not in the best interests of this company, or in the best interests of wrestling in general, to keep the best fighters in the world from facing off against each other.

"Ryan Powell was scheduled to challenge Joey Poison for the Canadian title at CGC Elimination this Friday. This will not happen. His spot will go instead to the no. 2 contender, Trent Shaffer. In addition, Powell is on probation -- further incidents will further harm his standing with the company. In addition, while we have no intention of pursuing any disciplinary action against Phil Vibert at this time, we will be keeping a close eye on him.

"On another note, we have a great show for you tonight. My brothers Jack and Ricky will be facing off against the Easy Riders in the main event. Zeus Maximilian will challenge Dan DaLay, and Eddie Chandler is scheduled to face off against Ed Monton in a battle of two men who have held the World Title. To kick it off, though, I present the newest arrival on these shores -- Rhino Umaga and Bali Machine, the Angry Samoans!"

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_RhinoUmaga_alt.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_SamoanMachine_alt-1.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_vintanner.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_OzzieGolden-1.jpg

ANGRY SAMOANS vs. NORTH AMERICAN BLONDS

The Samoans are talented, but their style is a little different from what we usually see in CGC, and I think the audience doesn't know what to make of that. We were hoping people would be more excited by the Samoans, and that would carry the match... the jury's still out. They did have a tough task in facing a team that didn't look good last week either, so everyone knew this was going to be a squash. Tanner and Golden sell the duo's brutal power moves with skill, but this one doesn't move the meter.

Angry Samoans defeat North American Blonds. MATCH GRADE: 38

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_EdMonton.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_EddieChandler_alt.jpg

ED MONTON vs. EDDIE CHANDLER

This one isn't a high-drama fight, or an especially competitive one, but it's certainly a pleasure to watch. Both these guys are masters at putting together a match, and everything here flows very nicely. Chandler knows that Monton is known for his near-superhuman ability to take punishment in the ring, so he focuses on mat work, tying the older man up in knots. The end comes around ten minutes in, when Monton tries a kick, but Chandler grabs his leg and brings him down into the Fabulous Stretch. Monton's locked in and forced to tap.

It's a clean win for the ELITE leader, which is something we're trying to do a little more often -- this time last year, the ending might have seen Chandler cheating against an opponent he could reasonably be expected to beat even if he didn't. That always seemed odd to me -- Chandler's whole character is the guy who never gets caught cheating, so why would he take that risk?

Eddie Chandler defeats Ed Monton by submission. MATCH GRADE: 59

As Monton dusts himself off and heads to the back, Chandler flags down ringside interviewer Farrah Hesketh, who's filling in for ELITE manager Adrian Garcia on commentary during Chandler and DaLay's matches. As she approaches, he takes the mic directly from her hand.

"I want to say something -- I am glad to face such an illustrious wrestler as Mister Ed Monton. And I am glad to BEAT such an illustrious wrestler as Mister Ed Monton. That's what Eddie Chandler brings you. That's what ELITE brings you every night. The best of the best against the best of the best -- we don't mess with the pests.

And speaking of pests, tonight's so-called main event sees our esteemed leaders, Mister John and Mister Richard DeColt, facing off against... a pair of motorcycle goons. The biggest threat the Easy Riders pose to the DeColts is a bad case of head lice. So steer clear of those bandanas, boys."

Chandler sneers. "It's a disgrace, a simple disgrace, to see these DeColts ducking and dodging when they hold the titles, and then acting as though they're so great. I swear, I couldn't live with myself -- Mister Chandler is a fighting champion. A two-time champion who just beat a three-time champion, and I've got my sights set on five, and that's you, John DeColt. Next Friday at Elimination, once I've polished off Ed Monton and Mister DaLay has taken down tag champion Zeus Maximilian."

Chandler starts to stroll off, chuckling to himself. "Oh, right -- and your little bike thing."

Hesketh throws it back to Mitch and Adrian, who are introducing Dan DaLay and Zeus.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_DanDaLay_alt3jt.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ZeusMaxmillion_alt1.jpg

DAN DaLAY vs. ZEUS MAXIMILIAN

Zeus looked good last week against Ozzie Golden and Vin Tanner, but he soon finds out that DaLay is another kind of blond man entirely. It's all well and good to get to grips with a smaller opponent, but where are you going to grab a giant? And what are you going to do to him once you do it? It's more a matter of what DaLay does to Zeus, and to his credit, the Greek God rapidly shifts tactics mid-match. He tries to outrun and out-hustle DaLay, which works up to a point, but he just can't make a serious dent in the big man's defenses. While the ref isn't looking, DaLay eases things along with an illegal choke hold that leaves Zeus gasping for air, and follows that up by hoisting him over his shoulders for the DaLay Down.

Dan DaLay defeats Zeus Maximilian by pinfall. MATCH GRADE: 57.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/MitchNaess_alt1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AdrianGarcia.jpg

"An impressive showing from Dan DaLay," says Adrian Garcia. "Zeus tried everything -- high flying, running, mat wrestling -- he's a very versatile wrestler. But he doesn't have a tool in his toolbox that can stand up to the Giant Among Giants."

"Indeed, Adrian. And remember, you can see both Dan DaLay and Zeus Maximilian this Friday at CGC Elimination, live from BC Place in Vancouver. In one of three six-man elimination matches, ELITE teams up against Jack, Alex and Ricky DeColt. Six men enter, one man leaves -- wrestling's greatest rivalry continues in the main event.

"You'll also see two great tag teams, Youth Energy and the Specialists -- live in action for the first time since they broke up last year. Shane Nelson and Thrill Seeker team up with fan favorite Whippy the Clown, while Bobby Thomas and Nate Johnson get a little help from "The Black Dog" Nathan Black."

"Indeed -- the Specialists are trying to avenge their loss in that unforgettable main event last year, which saw both teams split up after the match. And with Nate Johnson looking unstoppable lately, and Shane Nelson on a slide, they may be coming together at just the right time."

"And in the third and final elimination match of the night, tag champions Zeus and Stevie Grayson team up with Grimm Quibble against Destiny and Fate, the Soldiers of Fortune -- who will be joined by a mystery teammate. We've also got our one singles match of the night, in which Joey Poison will defend his Canadian title against Trent Shaffer."

"An exciting card indeed, Mitch. But now, let's turn our attention to the main event, in which CGC Champion Jack DeColt and his brother Ricky face off against the seemingly outmatched Easy Riders. Is an upset on the cards, or will the DeColts be sailing into Friday's fight?"

The camera cuts to the ring. Alex is on hand alongside his brothers, and they get a crowd pop with the trademark three-man DeColt entrance -- Ricky springboards off Jack and Alex's linked hands and vaults into the ring. Alex settles back down into his ringside seat, located a few feet away from the announce table, and the fight begins.

JACK and RICKY DeCOLT vs. THE EASY RIDERS

It's strange to call this a showcase for the Easy Riders, given that they never get particularly close to winning, but it does kind of have that effect. The big bikers are clearly outclassed, but it isn't an outright squash, and they do manage to get in some offense and even a couple two-counts. If anything, it's good just to get them in the ring for a match everyone's watching -- a lot of casual fans may be seeing them for the first time.

Around ten minutes into the match, a familiar face comes down the ramp. It's Phil Vibert, and he's got a clipboard. He stands a few feet from the ring for a moment, observing. Jack DeColt turns, looking worried -- and Dave Bonham just about takes his head off with a big kick. Fortunately, Jack falls near Ricky, the tag is made, and the younger DeColt restores order. For his part, Vibert raises one eyebrow, scribbles down a couple lines on his clipboard, then retires to a chair near Alex's to watch the show. The rest of the match proceeds without incident, and Ricky hits the DeColt 45 on Danny Elder a few minutes later.

Jack and Ricky DeColt defeat the Easy Riders by pinfall. Match grade: 64.

"The DeColts win again -- but what could Phil Vibert want? And will we find out at Elimination? Check it out this Friday -- the biggest matches, the final showdowns! That's all for our show -- this is Adrian Garcia, and I'm Mitch Naess! Goodnight!"

SHOW GRADE: 65.

So here's the Angry Samoans -- the third and fourth wrestlers I've hired. Why are they here? And why Vin Tanner and Brett Fraser? I think the answer has something to do with the way I view roster building.

Sometimes people ask me what's my favorite kind of wrestler. That's always been a weird question to me -- I expect people expect to hear me say that I like hardcore brawlers, because of DAVE. But think about DAVE -- we had our hardcore workers like Peak, Caulfield and Martin. But then we had technicians like Eric Tyler and Art Reed. We had high flyers like Acid and Fumihiro Ota. We had all-rounders like Joey Minnesota and Jack Giedroyc. And I think you need that if you want to be credible.

It always confuses me when I see a promotion with only one kind of worker, or only one kind of successful worker. Like, CZCW has done some great work, but it's hard to watch them and not think, "wait, wouldn't a big man flatten all these guys?" XFW was a promotion we beat out in the East Coast Wars, and my problem with them was that they just had garbage wrestling, so you could look at them and say, "I bet these guys wouldn't do anything against a really skilled technician." And so on, and so on. You need to have some of everything, so you know that the champions can beat everything.

And that's why I hired Brett Fraser -- he's a hardcore brawler. And everyone looked at him and said, "oh, it's Phil Vibert, he's going to turn CGC into DAVE." Well, no. Why would I do that? CGC fans don't want DAVE, they want CGC. But we didn't have anyone who specialized in that style, so we need one in there, just to show how the other guys can cope with him. And now we have the Samoans, who wrestle in that very physical Japanese style. It's brawling, but it's not like what DaLay or Alex or Fraser do. So that's another thing we can throw into the mix.

Honestly, I'd say that if I have a style I like, it's straight-ahead brawling. Not so much hardcore, not so much big men... a good heavyweight brawler just looks legitimate out there. For the technicians, you need to know what they're doing with the holds, and suspend disbelief that they're actually applying them at full strength. The high-flying stuff is flashy, but it always feels a little more choreographed, like, why is this guy letting this other guy jump off the ropes at him? But if you're strong and can throw a good punch and land some strength moves, that seems real in a way that other stuff doesn't. You don't need to know wrestling to know that those guys hit hard.

But like I said, I like all of it.

As for Vin Tanner, Vin Tanner's a good guy. I brought him in because I know him from DAVE, and he's a solid worker and good in the locker room. Nothing fancier than that.

Interesting take on the Elimination theme ( I personally did mine as fatal four way elimination matches for the singles titles, but these things are always open to personal choices and interpretations)

This match could go either way.

Glad to see someone else jumping on the CGC bandwagon as I feel it doesnt get enough attention as far as dynasties are concerned. I will be reading as they are my favoriote company and the fact that I am currently playing a save with them in 2010 which is the best save I have ever done since I began playing TEW with the 08 version.

In my mind, Elimination is a 3v3 elimination tourney -- I think I read about someone doing it that way. But I decided I didn't have enough three-man stables that I wanted to promote as a unit. Even here, I have the DeColts and ELITE -- but everything else is tag teams with added members. And then I threw in the Canadian title match mostly because I hadn't had Joey defend it so far, and I wanted to get him in there somehow.

If we get to January 2011, I think we're going to have more storylines and more options for next year's Elimination... but beginning a promotion midway through is weird, because there's all this stuff that has to be established anew. (I'm planning out the DeColt WrestleFest on the March/April border, and I'm STILL trying to figure out what to say about a third of the roster. And that's not even counting the jobbers.)

I hear ya. I hear ya all too well.

Meant to say - as much as he's an accursed otter, I'm digging the logic your Vibert is putting forward.

From my experience, outside of the DeColts and the Elite ( even Dalay can be awesome as long as you keep his overness high), Trent Shaffer can be an absolute god and rise quickly. Both Nate Johnson and Bobby Thomas can do well with the right pushes and I have seen Lee Rivera (aka Thrill Seeker) have some monster games where he has risen to world title level.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Elimination 2010!"

The crowd roars as Alex DeColt enters the ring and kicks off the first pay-per-view of the new year. Almost 25,000 people are packed into Vancouver's BC Place, and at least 20,000 of them are rabid fans of the DeColts. Alex is flanked by his brothers, Jack and Ricky.

"It's a new era for CGC, a new era for the DeColts, and that means it's a new era for wrestling. But before we move forward, we have to take care of some old business... tonight, we're looking to take down Eddie Chandler and ELITE for the last time."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_EddieChandler_alt.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_DanDaLay_alt3jt.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ShooterSeanDeeley.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_AdrianGarcia.jpg

"I'm sure you are, Alexander." Yes, it's Eddie Chandler, and he has a microphone. He strides down the ramp, with Dan DaLay and Shooter Sean Deeley at his back, and ELITE's manager Adrian Garcia bringing up the rear. "I'm sure you are... but you see, my friend, it does not work that way."

It turns out Jack has a mic too. "You back off, Chandler!"

"Settle down, Jack," says Alex. "Everyone has the right to speak."

Chandler continues. "There's a reason everyone knows about the DeColts and ELITE. We both win. Of course, we actually insist on fighting the best of the best -- in the last two weeks, we've faced members of the last two tag title teams, and Ed Monton, a man whose legend is as great as any DeColt's. Whereas you've challenged a fly-by-night sports agent and his incompetent cheater of a client, plus... oh, yes, the bikers. Can't forget those bikers. By the way, John... how's your chin?"

Jack DeColt instinctively clutches his face, which still looks a little bruised.

"So, you see, you won't be rid of us... as long as we keep beating everyone else who tries to take our spot. And we won't be rid of you as long as you keep beating... well, whoever you're beating these days."

"BIKERS." Apparently, DaLay also has a mic.

Ricky rolls his eyes. "Listen, guys, do you have to come out here and turn this into a big dumb argument? You do know we're going to be fighting tonight, right? Couldn't you save this for then?"

"Oh, right, right, Richard. I know how it goes -- DeColts rule, right?" Predictably, the fans have started chanting by now. DEEEE-COLT! DEEEE-COLT! But Chandler continues. "We win some, you win some. But in the end, you call the shots. It's front-page news when you take down some punk kids... when we grapple with champions, that goes where it doesn't get in the way of the DeColt Show. When the show starts, it's time for Mr. and Mrs. DeColt to puff themselves up in front of their fawning fans, but when we've got something to say, it's a 'big dumb argument'."

Jack says, "Save it for your big dumb sidekick Dan."

"Oh, Johnny boy, you're talking big. We both know Dan's not dumb. Dan's a giant among men, and a giant among wrestling minds."

"BIKERS."

"And look over here -- this is the man who turns the tide for ELITE. Sean Deeley. A national college champion, the greatest pure technical wrestler to arrive on the scene since Mama Chandler birthed a beautiful baby boy way back in '76... and what do you have? Mini-DeColt here? Hah!"

"Enough, Eddie." Alex is firm. "I think the fans all know what they're about to see anyway. Real! Wrestling! Action!" The roar from the crowd is deafening. "We'll see you tonight!" The DeColts wave to the crowd, then turn as one, heading backstage.

"All right, ladies and gentlemen! This is CGC Elimination! Mitch Naess here, and I'm joined by... Adrian Garcia."

The commentator/manager takes his place ringside. "ELITE, ladies and gentlemen! Beating the DeColts at their own game -- the game of talking. And as you'll see in just a couple hours, ELITE's game is wrestling. But that's not all we've got tonight, is it?"

"No, Adrian -- we've got the reunion of two of the most storied teams in wrestling history, as Youth Energy teams up for the first time since their breakup to face off against their ex-rivals, the Specialists, who are ALSO reuniting for the first time. Tonight's show features three-on-three matches contested under elimination rules -- a team needs to take down all three opponents to win -- so they're joined by two gifted guests, both of whom have held tag team gold in recent years."

"Yes, sir -- Whippy the Clown teams up with Youth Energy, and the Specialists are joined by the Black Dog, Nathan Black. Two great tag wrestlers, two great tag teams, one great match."

"We've also got something unusual for Elimination -- a one-on-one match. But it's for the Canadian Title -- Joey Poison defends his belt against Trent Shaffer."

"Hey, Mitch -- any truth to the rumor that nobody wanted to team up with Joey Poison?"

"I have not heard that rumor, Adrian."

"Well, backstage source told me that he was asking people to join him in a three-man team, but nobody wanted to work with him because his temper was so bad."

"Well, Adrian, Joey definitely has a fiery streak, but he's also one of the best wrestlers in CGC, and a good man. He's just defending the title he has... anyway, let's get to some action. The tag champions, Zeus Maximilian and Stevie Grayson, team up with ex-tag champion Grimm Quibble in our opening bout. Some real tag experience on this side, but they can't match the pedigree of Destiny and Fate, the Soldiers of Fortune. The Soldiers have not yet announced their teammate, and speculation has been high... let's go to the ring."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_ZeusMaxmillion_alt1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_StevieGrayson_alt1-1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_GrimmQuibble.jpg

Grayson and the God come out to moderate applause. The presence of Quibble doesn't help much; we've noted already that the fans are indifferent at best to the guy, except possibly when he dons his clown makeup and teams up with Whippy.

The lights cut out as the champions and Quibble approach the ring. Pyro lights up the top of the ramp -- The Soldiers' familiar twin pillars of fire flicker on either side. And then, in the middle of the ramp, a third. Silhouetted against the fire, we see Destiny, Fate... and Chance.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_TheInsaneHeat.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_Fate.jpg ... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_Chance.jpg

GRACE of GOD + GRIMM QUIBBLE vs. THE SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE (DESTINY, FATE and CHANCE)

It was a bit touch-and-go making this match happen. Chance has been retired for a few years now, and his injuries make it impossible for him to work a full schedule. But we had reasons for wanting to see him in the ring one more time, and we managed to plan out a match that made him look good without relying too much on his physical capacity.

Quibble is the first man out, falling victim to the No Free Will -- the double bulldog that Chance and Fate used as a secondary finisher in the late '90s. We're around 15 minutes in, and the Soldiers are looking dominant. Tag out to Destiny, who faces off against Grayson. Grayson ducks a punch, sweeps the leg, hits a couple stomps... tags Zeus in, and they run to opposite corners of the ring. Destiny staggers to his feet, only to be hit by a pair of missile dropkicks. Lightning Strikes Twice! Fate storms the ring, looking to break up the tag, but Destiny is out cold. Grayson runs interference so Zeus can get the pin, but there's no way the newest Soldier is getting up. When Zeus does complete the three-count, the ref has to roll Destiny out of the ring. We're down to four.

Zeus is perhaps the best equipped to face the Soldiers at their own game, but he doesn't have the speed of either of his teammates. Still, he tries the hit-and-run, and does pretty well with it. He tags out to Grayson, who continues to wear down Fate... until Chance intervenes. As the tag co-champ approaches the ropes, the retired Soldier trips him up, which gives Fate the opening to hit the Twist of Fate on Grayson. Zeus re-enters the ring, but he's far from fresh, and he's facing two men. Before long, Chance has him up on his shoulders, and Fate comes flying in -- Certain Doom! Zeus is down! The Soldiers have won it!

The Soldiers of Fortune defeat Grayson, Zeus and Quibble by pinfall. MATCH GRADE: 41.

Destiny joins the Soldiers as the trio enters the ring and celebrates. There's been no love lost between this team and the fans over the last twenty years -- and indeed, they just defeated the popular tag team champions by cheating. In the moment, though, the fans are on their feet, Maybe it's the fact that they're no longer the menace they were. Maybe it's the audience's acknowledgement of Chance and Fate's legendary career. But the fact remains: for possibly the only time ever, the Soldiers of Fortune are receiving a standing ovation.

"An impressive win," says Naess, "for one of wrestling's most legendary tag teams. All three of the Soldiers of Fortune together for a special match. And now we go to Joey Poison, who has a message for his opponent of the evening, Trent Shaffer."

"Listen up, Shaffer, you punk." Joey Poison's face is right up in the camera, nostrils flared, eyes bulging. His girlfriend Faith is barely visible in the corner of the screen -- has she gotten a word in edgewise since she started accompanying Joey to the ring? "I bet you thought this wasn't going to happen -- I bet you thought you were home free. Team up with a couple other guys, get an easy payday, DON'T fight Joey Poison. Well, guess what -- you guessed wrong. You're getting in that ring, and there will be no tag-outs, no breathers, nobody doing your heavy lifting for you. It's just gonna be you, me, and non-stop intensity, and when it's over..."

...static.

After a second, the scene cuts to a backstage hallway, where Gargantuan bumps roughly into Ricky DeColt. The smaller man skitters backward.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_Gargantuan.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_RickyDecolt-1.jpg

"Hey! What gives, big guy?" Ricky is casual, even joking. Gargantuan cuffs Ricky across the ear. He staggers across the floor, rocked by the blow a little, but also trying to get away. Now he's serious.

"HEY! What the..."

Ricky trips over a metal trash can, which clatters to the ground as he stumbles. Gargantuan scoops him up and wheels him high, bringing him down for the Ultimate Backbreaker. He's not done, either -- chokeslam right onto the side of the trash can! Gargantuan picks Ricky up again -- another chokeslam, this one onto the concrete floor! Ricky is down and obliterated!

There's some stirring down the hallway -- two security guards enter, accompanied by Vin Tanner and Philippe LaGrenier, who seem to have been attracted by the noise. Gargantuan ducks into a door on the hallway's left side and is gone.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_vintanner.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_PhilippeLaGrenier-1.jpg

The guards start examining Ricky DeColt, who is broken, battered and unconscious... just an hour before the big match with ELITE. LaGrenier is checking the scene out with an air of amused indifference, but Vin Tanner straightens up suddenly. "The V Man" heads off through the side door, wearing an intent look.

The grainy surveillance video keeps running for a few unsettling seconds, background sound muffled. Finally, we cut back to the booth, where Mitch Naess is midway through hyping up an upcoming match.

"-- and these two teams have been no strangers to each other. Let's look at the footage of their final match last year."

A video package airs as the announcers review the recent history of the Specialists and Youth Energy -- starting with their spectacular final match in 2009, and continuing through Shane Nelson's recent struggles, some spectacular highlights from Thrill Seeker's matches, and closing with Nate Johnson's year-long run with the Canadian title.

"And now -- the current holder of the title. Joey Poison faces off against Trent Shaffer."

http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/?action=view&current=JoeyPoison-1.jpg w/ http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_Faith-1.jpg vs. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_TrentShaffer1.jpg

JOEY POISON vs. TRENT SHAFFER for Poison's Canadian Title

A miute and a half into this one, someone manages to tell Mitch and Adrian that the broadcast was interrupted -- and about the backstage assault on Ricky. So the commentary for this one isn't as focused as usual. The match runs 15 minutes, and the pair spends at least eight to ten of those minutes talking over the attack, its aftermath, and speculations as to Gargantuan's motives and what this means for tonight's main event.

The good news is, this is a good match that doesn't need the announcers to sell it. Neither of these workers is remarkably gifted at telling a story, but they're both very easy to watch in the ring. Shaffer is known for his big, graceful, looping kicks and for the air he gets on top-rope moves, while Poison really sells his fiery character with hard throws and striking combinations. Shaffer runs circles around Poison early and lands some splashy moves, but as the match wears on, Poison gets more focused and more vicious. A forearm strike bloodies Shaffer's lip, a leg sweep sends him to the mat in a heap, and Poison locks in the Antidote Web, pulling hard to make sure Shaffer won't be able to escape. After only a few seconds, Shaffer taps, clearly in pain.

Joey Poison defeats Trent Shaffer by pinfall to defend his title. MATCH GRADE: 66.

Mitch: "An excellent showing by Joey Poison, who has just not looked beatable since taking the title two months ago. Shaffer is a good competitor, but Poison wore him down."

Adrian: "Of course, that was supposed to be Ryan Powell in the ring, until the incident a couple weeks ago cost him the title shot. We go to Powell and his manager Phil Vibert, as well as our own Farrah Hesketh."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_RyanPowell_alt1-1.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_PhilVibert.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_FarrahHesketh.jpg

"I'm here with Ryan Powell and Phil Vibert," says Farrah. "The first thing that comes to mind is, how did it feel to be sidelined for the title fight?"

"I'll handle this one, Farrah," says Vibert. "While we were disappointed by the ruling, we understand and accept it. Clearly, Trent Shaffer is a worthy challenger for the belt, and the fact that Joey managed to prevail proves again that he's going to be tough to beat. With luck, Ryan will be back into the picture soon, and we hope to mount a successful challenge. Thank you."

"It's garbage," says Ryan.

"Pardon me?" Hesketh turns to Powell.

"I mean, what is this? Yeah, the thing happened with Alex, but what does that have to do with..."

Ryan catches sight of Phil Vibert next to him, who is fixing his client with a stare that could melt iron.

"...with... I'm going back to the gym, and I'm training, and whenever my next shot comes, I can assure you I'm going to give 110 percent and be ready."

"What do you say to the claims that..."

"Excuse me."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_vintanner.jpg

Vin Tanner walks into frame, interrupting Hesketh. "Sorry to interrupt this, but have you seen Gargantuan?"

"What?"

"Gargantuan. He attacked Ricky. I'm looking for him."

"Have you tried his locker?" Powell jerks a thumb off screen to the left.

"Heading there now."

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/4cjensen/th_EdMonton.jpg

The camera follows Tanner through a pair of doors. to a locker room. Ed Monton is sitting there.

"Hi, Vin."

"Hey, Ed -- have you seen Gargantuan?"

"He cleared out around fifteen minutes ago, during the Poison-Shaffer match. Seemed to be in a hurry. He's probably halfway home by now. What's going on?"

"He attacked Ricky. Beat him up real bad. The doctors aren't sure he can fight."

"Damn... why would he do that?"

"I don't know. I don't have any idea. Did someone put him up to it? It's a rotten thing to do. I'm trying to track him down and find out."

"Huh." Monton laughs, a short bark. "Wouldn't figure you to get involved."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you know... I'd figure you have more in common with ELITE than the DeColts."

"You think it's ELITE?"

"Weeeelllllllll... it's the logical assumption, no? Who else gains, Vin?"

"I don't know. I hope it's not ELITE. And I'm kind of insulted that you'd suggest I'd be okay with this. Yeah, I'm a rough guy. I get by out there, and I do what I have to. That's not always pretty. But dropping a guy head-first on concrete before the match -- one of the biggest matches of the year? A match you're not even in? Dammit, Ed, that's just not wrestling."

"Sure isn't, Vin."

"I just hope he's all right. An attack like that can screw you up pretty bad. Well, if you hear anything, let me know."

"Will do."

We're back to the booth, where Naess says, "We've received an update from the CGC medical staff. Ricky DeColt is conscious, but badly beaten. It's not clear whether he'll be able to wrestle tonight."

"Well, you hate to see it happen this way, but this has to help ELITE, right?"

"You tell me, Adrian. You're their manager. And I hesitate to ask..."

"God, no. Who do you think we are? We'd never interfere with a match this way. I'm offended. Let's just move on here, okay?"

"Ladies and gentlemen, we saw the Soldiers of Fortune in action earlier tonight. Now, two more legendary tag teams reunite to continue their rivalry. Last month, Thrill Seeker and Shane Nelson defeated the Specialists in both teams' final match -- their final two-on-two match, that is.

Now they're all back, teaming up with two other tag stars. Nathan Black, who teamed up with Philippe LaGrenier to win the title last year, joins the Specialists, while Whippy the Clown, who held the belts in 2008, brings his special brand of mayhem to Youth Energy's team. As always, it'll be a hard-fought battle between these CGC legends. And we go now to the ring..."

Thrill Seeker, Shane Nelson and Whippy the Clown vs. Nate Johnson, Bobby Thomas and Nathan Black

Thrill Seeker and Nate Johnson lead off the match, trading blows evenly, and Nelson and Thomas tag in at almost the same time three minutes later. There are a few moments that deliberately recall some of the best YE-Specialists spots in history -- Johnson transitioning between a half-dozen surfboard variations on Thrill Seeker, completely controlling him on the mat, as he did at Survival of the Fittest '06. Nelson springboarding off Thomas' back to take out Black on the apron with a cross-body, as he did in '05 when the team first won the title off the Specialists. The fans roar their approval. It's something of a Greatest Hits.

Johnson tags in -- and hits the Natural Order on Nelson! Less than ten minutes into the match, and the fans are shocked... but Whippy manages to reach his hand out and tag in, avoiding a huge blow to the face team's chances.

Johnson holds steady with the clown for a couple minutes before Black tags in. Nelson is still collecting himself, and Thrill Seeker stands ready on the apron. The match slows down a little, with Whippy performing his usual hit-and-run act on the third heel in the match. Black reacts with comical frustration, but this is basically padding, and the crowd knows it. Neither one of these guys is the point of the match.

Now Thomas is in, and he won't stand for much of this nonsense. The next time Whippy comes in for a dive bomb, Thomas is ready -- and he reverses it expertly into the Specialist Touch. 1... 2... 3! Whippy is out early, and the Specialists are in business. Johnson stands on the apron, though, looking confused. From what he's shouting to Thomas, the plan was for Thomas to make the quick tag to him, and finish off the clown together with the Special Delivery.

Still, Whippy is out, and it's 3 on 2 now for the Specialists' team. Rivera is back in, and he puts a big hit on Thomas with a top-rope stomp. Thomas crawls to the ring and tags... to Black? "The Black Dog" was not expecting this, and he's shaken up. Black tags to Johnson, who gets to work. After two minutes of spirited fighting, Nelson tags back in, and the pair hits a double clothesline on Johnson. With Jenny Playmate shouting a veritable playbook's worth of advice to her boyfriend ringside, Nelson goes to work on the stunned Johnson. He reaches down -- elevated Boston Crab! With indomitable will, Johnson crawls on his forearms. Inches... inches... he's approaching Thomas' corner, where his old teammate is waiting... arms folded? Johnson is enraged, but Thomas will not make the tag. Black is motoring back around the ring to tag in, but Nelson yanks Johnson back. Utterly spent, Johnson taps.

Black is in, and Nelson -- or Jenny, at any rate -- has him scouted. "The Black Dog" made his name countering aerial attacks, so Nelson stays relatively grounded, relying on his speed and striking ability to outclass the veteran Black. Eventually, he's able to take to the air, and a big Clash of Styles wipes out Black. So now it's two on one, but Thomas looks game. A big roundhouse kick puts Nelson on the back foot, and he's dazed. He tags out to Thrill Seeker. With a grin on his face, Thomas presses the attack, getting Thrill Seeker down to the mat and applying holds with relish. Thrill Seeker gets to the ropes, and Nelson is back in. He climbs up to the top rope -- and reaches down for the quick tag back to Thrill Seeker! Thrill Seeker with the dropkick on Thomas, who staggers back -- and gets leveled by Nelson! High Voltage! High Voltage! Thrill Seeker, the legal man, covers for the pin. Youth Energy wins again!

Thrill Seeker, Shane Nelson and Whippy the Clown defeat Nate Johnson, Bobby Thomas and Nathan Black. Match rating: 73.

Thrill Seeker and Shane Nelson, joined by Jenny and Whippy, celebrate in the ring as Thomas heads backstage with Black. Johnson has long since left ringside. But the final match is moving right along.

Down to the ring come Alex DeColt, Jack DeColt... and Ricky DeColt. He's limping, his arm is bandaged, and he has a black eye and a cut across his cheek -- but he is out, and the crowd is going even wilder than before. Obviously, the usual three-man entrance -- Ricky springboarding from Alex and Jack's linked hands over the rope -- is out of the question. But the youngest DeColt brother manages to clamber up to the apron as ELITE enters from the other side.

THE DeCOLTS vs. ELITE

Alex leads off against DaLay -- ELITE wants to avoid the Jack-DaLay match-up, as the "Giant Killer" has had the big man's number for almost a decade. Not that DaLay has the advantage against Alex, necessarily, but it's at least close. It's also slow -- these are two of the top wrestlers in the company, but neither of them is the most dynamic worker. Still, the fans' enthusiasm carries us through, and when Jack tags in two minutes later, half the fans are already on their feet.

Naess sells the necessity of frequent tags for the DeColts -- it's not clear how much Ricky can do in the ring, so Alex and Jack need to keep from getting winded. DaLay, though, tags out mostly to avoid Jack. Eddie Chandler tags in, and wastes no time bringing the match down to the mat. He's trying to wear down the champion by working the limbs. But Jack is a capable technician as well, and gives as good as he gets. We're at the five-minute mark, and Alex DeColt is back in.

The eldest brother makes his presence felt with a couple stiff kicks to Chandler's chest, and unsurprisingly, the ELITE leader brings in Deeley, who's still fully rested on the sidelines. Alex matches up well with Deeley, who's a masterful technician, but struggles to cope with Alex's size advantage. Still, it's Alex who tags back out first... this time to Ricky. Adrian Garcia flags down Deeley and has him tag out to Dan DaLay -- ELITE's bringing out the big guns, trying to exert a little power on the injured brother!

Ricky dodges a couple big blows, but doesn't look very mobile. For some reason, he's staying in the center of the ring, not even using the edges. At such close range, it's impossible for him to evade the big man's grasp, and DaLay gets a hold of him. He whips Ricky into the ropes -- and right into the hands of Jack DeColt! Ricky lined it up for the tag, and the champ is ready! Jack vaults the rope and makes a beeline straight for DaLay. DaLay throws a forearm, but Jack reverses it into a hammerlock and flips him to the ground. He locks on the End of Days -- and Deeley storms the ring! Alex catches him with a clothesline, interrupting him! The ref has one eye on this chaos, and one eye on DaLay... and DaLay taps! The DeColts crossed him up, and they grab the early lead!

Alex vacates the ring after stopping Deeley's attempt at interference, but the Shooter stays in to face Jack. Deeley has been in the ring a few minutes, and barely got a breather, but he looks strong against Jack. The DeColts are starting to look a little ragged... two minutes pass, then three. Jack is more fending off Deeley than pressing the attack. Alex is still looking winded. So we're back to Ricky, who hobbles into the ring. He's standing on his good leg and using his bad leg to hold Deeley at bay with kicks -- the pain must be excruciating, but Ricky holds firm. Deeley backs off, and they circle. Ricky looks back at Alex, waiting for the okay on the tag. Deeley launches himself off the second rope -- flying tackle on Ricky! He didn't see it coming, and with his reduced speed, it's not clear he could have done anything! Deeley grabs Ricky's busted leg, yanks back hard... Ricky taps!

Alex enters, as Naess sells the shock of Deeley taking to the air. It's a dimension we almost never see from him, but Deeley was smart enough to know Ricky had no answer for it. Alex is in now, and he's caught his breath a little. But Deeley makes him run, staying evasive, operating almost like a lightweight. Alex catches up, though, and unleashes a hard kick to Deeley's midsection. The staggered Deeley attempts to sweep DeColt's legs, but is rebuffed. DeColt grabs the ex-national amateur champion, hoists him up -- DeColt Driver! Deeley is down! 1! 2! ...no! Deeley gets a shoulder up! Alex backs off, Deeley stands up, makes a panicked flight to the corner, climbs the turnbuckle -- he's going for the diving tackle that finished off Ricky, but Alex just catches him and spikes him with a second DeColt Driver! A tactical error for Deeley, and there's no way he's getting up... Alex could've gotten a ten-count, but he settles for 3, as Chandler returns to the ring.

Alex is now even more winded, and Chandler takes advantage, using his speed to get the better of an exchange of strikes. An errant blow strikes Alex in the eye, and as the announcers debate whether it was a deliberate gouge, Chandler applies an armlock to force Alex to his knees, and transitions into the Fabulous Stretch. Alex holds out, holds out, holds out... but he can't make anything happen! He's making Chandler work for it, giving his brother a few more moments to breathe, but it's clear he's not getting free. He taps after thirty agonizing seconds.

So it's down to two: Jack DeColt. Eddie Chandler. The champion against the ELITE leader, and Jack is clearly the worse for wear. Chandler is riding high, slapping a few painful joint locks on Jack before taking the match to the mat. Garcia is shouting relentlessly at DeColt, sticking his head through the ropes to berate the champion. DeColt reaches out to secure a hold on Chandler -- but Chandler flips it on him! The Fabulous Stretch is locked in again! Garcia is in Jack's face ringside! Jack struggles, struggles -- and reaches the ropes! Jack is furious -- this can't end well for anyone in his path!

His eyes burning, he drags himself up the ropes with his hands, then annihilates Garcia with a well-placed headbutt. He turns. Chandler goes on the defensive, but it's not enough -- Jack furiously grabs him, hoists him high, and lands the DeColt Drop! 1... 2... 3!
