SWF: Where Men Become LEGENDS

Recommended Posts

I always saw Big Cat as Rhino. Animalistic and brutal and mostly out for himself. I'm stoked to see what you can do with Val. If there's a writer here that can turn him from bland babyface into something interesting, it's you. I ended up turning him heel in my private game and it's been... interesting. He's now a 94 pop worldwide and the top heel in SWF. I created a gimmick just for Val, The Spurned Hero. It's a heel-leaning tweener but I had him give up his moral code and don a black singlet ala Sting. He uses his "Equalizer" in every match; that being a billy club he uses on the people "holding him back" and "trying to force him to be something he isn't." Which is to say, everyone.

Fingers crossed it progresses as I hope and nothing gets in the way.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> As for your take, love the perspective with Val. He's my favorite person to listen to (he and Austin). There's a possibility, at later points, if a specific wrestler does a 'shoot' (in-game) then I could take that a step further and actually write up a shoot interview w/ that wrestler via Powerhouse news or something. Could add a new realm to this all. Actually, yea, I like that idea. Thanks for the insight!</div><p></p>

<p>You're welcome. I love Nash, Austin, Cornette, and Heyman's shoots. They're either insightful or at least funny as hell. I nearly pissed myself listening to Nash talk about the Kliq strike.</p><p> </p><p>

I too love the Rhino comparison. That's the perfect way to look at him. My biggest concern about booking a guy like that would be ending up Goldberging them instead of pushing both their character and their wrestling. While Goldberg got over with the streak, to me it felt like after awhile he became the streak instead of a character that I could relate to. I actually found myself watching more to see if he would lose rather than rooting for him to win. Rhino was pushed more realistically and with more character than "ohmygodhe'samonster!"</p><p> </p><p>

As for Val, it's actually a sad thing that a guy who's actually pretty good in the ring and on the mic, so bloody boring. If he were real, Vince would make him lose to Hornswaggle every week and have him dance like a goof.</p>

<span style="color:#FFFFFF;">Great job. I was hoping he would be out of the company, possibly to start up WAR instead of Stallings. You have my thanks. :-D</span></p>

<p>Personally I love Valiant's 'pure babyface' sort of vibe. Sure, it's easy to see him as being a bit too generic, but what makes him slightly generic in the overall world of wrestling actually makes him pretty unique in the SWF environment.</p><p> </p><p>

The way most people seem to write these characters, including myself, there's no one else (at least near the top of the card) who is truly motivated to do the right thing above all else. The top faces aren't exactly role models. As Eisen-verse is highlighting in this story (expertly, I might add <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />), even a guy like Christian Faith has a pretty clear edge to him.</p><p> </p><p>

The only other people I can see playing clean cut faces as well as Valiant are Des Davids and maybe the Bumfholes, but there are usually other things to be done with those characters. Valiant might not be as versatile, but IMO every promotion can make use of a classic good guy, especially at the top of the card. I have more fun trying to add some depth to that character than I did when I tried to turn him into something that I found more interesting on the surface. Just my opinion, of course.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, keep up the great work Eisen-verse. Can't wait to see what happens next, especially with the Warzone Cell and Jack Bruce storylines.</p>

I've been listening to Austin's podcast lately and they covered that in that interview as well. He's a unique guy; Kevin Nash. Really has a business-look on the sport & is pretty candid about it.</div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Ladron Del Alma" data-cite="Ladron Del Alma" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="34928" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I too love the Rhino comparison. Give him an actual character. As you said, Goldberg became the streak with time. There really wasn't a storyline outside of that. It wasn't until he started to butt heads with the nWo that some storylines formed and, at that time, we had gone too far past to really 'care' about him past a win/loss. If you make it all about the win/loss eventually they won't mean anything to the roster as they WILL lose at some point. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> With Big Cat, not only did I try to intertwine him in a few storylines straight away; however, also wasn't afraid to have him lose. That said, whenever a 'big man' loses it's going to take more than your garden variety finishing maneuver. People like Big Cat, Vengeance, Khoklov, etc., are guys that you're going to have to give everything & most likely do something pretty drastic to beat them. It's to be a 'feat'; not every day kind of thing. So, you can have Big Cat drop a match, not be a Goldberg-prototype, and yet still look strong despite the loss (ie: "Oh my god, it took that and that and that to finally put him down. He's a MONSTER!"... all even though he lost).</div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Ladron Del Alma" data-cite="Ladron Del Alma" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="34928" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>As for Val, it's actually a sad thing that a guy who's actually pretty good in the ring and on the mic, so bloody boring. Vince logic is the worst. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Valiant IS a really talented guy. I mean, I tried to put him on the back-burner because he was rather bland; however, came to find that he was pulling great grades with just about everyone. That made it ten times easier to start the transition of his character.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> He CAN be boring but I guess it's what you do with him. Turning him heel is often a good way to give him a character to work with; however, in some cases, I feel some may jump to that approach too early. For me, he is still kind of old school, bland, babyface with a John Cena-like moral code thing but it's not always about what the wrestler does (or says) that makes him who he is. It's also about how OTHERS perceive him, talk to him, treat him. You can build A LOT with a character with how others interact with him (as well as how their environment interacts with them as well).</div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Psycho Sam" data-cite="Psycho Sam" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="34928" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>You actually fired Bruce? <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#FFFFFF;">Great job. Obviously there's a good reason for the lack of pure faces in the company. A guy like Christian Faith is rough around the edges because he's been at the top in the SWF for a long time, and that's simply what it takes to thrive in that position. So the question raised by this storyline ('Is Valiant Too Soft?') is a brilliant one, because it's about so much more than just a single match on a single PPV. In a way, it's even about more than just Valiant. It's also about the SWF as a whole.</p><p> </p><p> It's unclear if someone <em>can</em> survive at the top in the SWF with their morals intact, because when you're facing a guy like Rich Money (or even Vengeance or Remo), sometimes you've just gotta do what you've gotta do. It's a sort of baptism by fire, and even guys who may have been better role models early in their careers (Faith) are now hardened if not fundamentally changed by the experience. The comparisons of Valiant to Faith are great, because Faith then serves as an example of what that environment does to someone like Val. Maybe Faith <em>would</em> have been the type who could mentor the next generation of workers, but guys like that don't succeed in the modern SWF.</p><p> </p><p> Whatever the answer is (and it could realistically go either way with satisfying results, which is awesome), I think this has the potential to be your most interesting storyline yet, and if he can find his place in the company one way or another, it will be a launching pad for Valiant to become recognized as a Main Eventer. It's one of those storylines that could go on to define a character for the rest of their career, really. </p><p> </p><p> It also opens up the possibility for further development of Christian Faith's character, especially if Valiant is able to find success as a more pure sort of face in a company where even the good guys have to get their hands dirty.</p>

It's also about the SWF as a whole.<p> </p><p> It's unclear if someone <em>can</em> survive at the top in the SWF with their morals intact, because when you're facing a guy like Rich Money (or even Vengeance or Remo), sometimes you've just gotta do what you've gotta do. It's one of those storylines that could go on to define a character for the rest of their careers, really. </p><p> </p><p> It also opens up the possibility for further development of Christian Faith's character, especially if Valiant is able to find success as a more pure sort of face in a company where even the good guys have to get their hands dirty.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">This really could be the storyline that defines Valiant for the rest of his career. That's my attempt here. It's more than just a 'storyline to give Valiant something to do'. It's more of a creating a unique character that can do a lot of good for the SWF in the future. Will he make it to Faith's LEGENDARY status? We'll see. That said, the road to get there could really create something really groundbreaking for his character as a whole (within this project that is).</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> I love how you pointed out that Faith is really what happens to someone like Valiant after 3 decades in the SWF. Faith started as a wide-eyed, old-school, wrestler with a moral code; however, over time, found that he HAD to 'get dirty' in which to survive. In reality, he never stooped to the level of a Money or Bruce for that matter but he's done enough to stay on top; stomping on some toes in the process. As you said, to get there and stay there, one has to be pretty tough; hard-headed... a never ending fighter. It's why Favre wouldn't just let Aaron Rodgers walk in and 'take his spot'; he wasn't done with it yet and he had 'been the guy', busting his a$$ to remain the guy up until then, and wasn't ready for time to pass him by. This is kind of the same thing we're seeing so far with Val/Faith.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> To succeed in the SWF you HAVE to be insanely tough. Not to mention, you've got to be like HBK was in the late 90's; always looking over your shoulder for the NEXT guy to come take your spot. With Faith, he may be looking over his shoulder but he doesn't really care. He's done enough in 30 years to feel comfortable at the top of the heap. He's pretty much the Cornellverse of the Undertaker in the real-world right now.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Is Val too soft? That's all subjective. It depends on how you define 'soft'. Is he a 'dirty player' and willing to 'step on toes'? Right now, no. Could he get there? Possibly but it would mean abandoning EVERYTHING that makes him who he is; his code. Will he do so? That remains to be seen (or if he is willing to entertain the thought; potentially proving to be a steadfast believer in his code). That said, he's not really 'soft' from an in-ring perspective. He has that old school strong-style approach, almost generic in his move-selection, and is one who can put up one hell of a fight. That said, will he do ANYTHING to get the win? No. To some, that would make him weak/soft.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> It really can go many different ways; however, I will say, I have a concrete focus in mind. In the end, I'm hoping it turns out as it's developed in my mind. If it does... man... We've got some good stuff ahead of us. </div><img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p></p>

I can definitely see the parallels. In a lot of ways, I've seen Valiant as 'Superman' in this recent rendition of the SWF. Well, not in the classic sense. More like, if someone was born, had the look, the ability, and people started calling that growing man 'Superman'. Only, as time went on, when he didn't 'save the world', didn't do it how they wanted him to, didn't become what they wanted him to be, a shadow of doubt begins to creep. That doubt brings naysayers. It brings the masses with their pitchs and forks waiting next to the door. They WANT him to be 'Superman' but many feel he can't be & are starting to think that it'll NEVER happen. Before you know it, the once heralded man is now considered to be 'just outside of the realm of what he could have been'. People almost give up on the thought that he will one day 'save the world' and, instead, look to another person to do so. Clinging to another figure to 'save them'. That's my Valiant right there; the 'Superman' that was once thought but may never be...

One that has, and most certainly will continue to, destroy the livelihood of those brave (or stupid) enough to accept its challenge. A simple coin flip was often used to dictate which team would obtain the numbers advantage. The winning team would introduce a new teammate and ultimately generate a 2-on-1, 3-on-2, and 4-on-3 (These numbers are contingent on the fact that no one is eliminated before all the competitors are introduced into the match; this can change accordingly). With this advantage, we’ve seen some of THE most destructive moments in the ‘Cell’s history. </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

One example being the point for which Jack Bruce was almost viciously forced into a coma through a 2-on-1 assault levied by the tandem of Runaway Train & Enforcer Roberts. In that case, the arrival of Roberts into the match ultimately titled the numbers game in their team’s direction. In doing so, Bruce was repeatedly double-teamed and ultimately thrown into the cage wall repeatedly; his head colliding with the ‘Cell wall 7 times before his partner, Christian Faith, entered the ring. </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

In a new twist on an old rule, there will NO longer be a coin flip to decide the numbers advantage in the ‘Cell. Instead, a match will take place, this week on SupremeTV, and the winner of said match will usher in the ultimate advantage for their team at “Times of Trouble”.</span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

</span></div></div></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><em>The</em></span></div></div></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> Establishment and the foursome of Christian Faith, Angry Gilmore, Captain Atomic and their unknown 4th partner will decide on WHO will represent their team in this impending SupremeTV match. Picking ONE individual, they will carry the weight of their entire team’s health. For a win will bring about, as we stated before, the development of the ‘numbers advantage’ come the “Warzone Cell” match at “Times of Trouble”.</span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Adding further intrigue into the match, SWF OWNER Rich Money has gone as far as to announce that NO OTHER wrestler will be allowed at ringside during the match. Could this be Money’s attempt at fair gamesmanship? Potentially. In reality though, there’s always a trump card up the ‘Supreme Dictator’s’ sleeve it seems. This is FAR too important of a match to allow everything to go smoothly. </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Val's gotta prove himself to Faith and the SWF Nation and the best way to do that and keep that storyline going is for him to win.</p><p> </p><p>

The Awesomeness w/ Dawn the Cheerleader vs. <strong>The Truth w/ Jungle Lord and Zim-ME</strong></p><p>

[Non-Title Match]</p><p>

[standard Tag Team Match]</p><p>

Champs could use the win here after dropping some to build the challengers.</p><p> </p><p>

A chosen member of ‘Team Faith’ vs. <strong>A chosen member of The Establishment</strong></p><p>

[Winner gains numbers advantage for their team in the “Warzone Cell”]</p><p>

[All Supreme Superstars are barred from ringside]</p><p>

[standard Singles Match]</p><p>

Always more entertaining for the heels to get the advantage in matches like the Warzone. Although part of me wonders if this is a chance for Bruce to run in to help the faces.</p><p> </p><p>

SWF OWNER Rich Money w/ The Establishment vs. The unknown 4th Member of ‘Team Faith’</p><p>

[standard Singles Match]</p><p>

I'm gonna go with the match being thrown out. The prediction for the 4th member? Part of me wants to say it's The Golden Boy, part of me wants to say it's Bruce via some loophole, and there's a dark horse in this race, pun intended, of Vengeance.</p>

<em>Oh poor Kazikaze. He might get decapitated just so Frehley looks good.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Expecting Valiant to win and "tainted-ly"</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>No sense in handing the champs a loss before their ppv match.</em></p><p> </p><p>

A chosen member of ‘Team Faith’ vs. <strong>A chosen member of The Establishment</strong></p><p>

<em>Faces overcoming the odds seems to be the better direction.</em></p><p> </p><p>

SWF OWNER Rich Money w/ The Establishment <strong>vs</strong>. The unknown 4th Member of ‘Team Faith’</p><p>

<em>Can't see either person taking a loss. I expect a 4-on-4 brawl to end the show.</em></p><p> </p><p>

EDIT TO ADD: Just want to say I love what you've done with this PPV. I always get caught up in having my champ be the headliner and driving the biggest action, but you've properly made the Zone match feel like the biggest match on the card while still building Frehley vs Davids in an excellent mini-feud.</p>

I'm calling Atomic vs Remo. The Establishment will choose Remo, since Money is busy and Eisen is a coward. And Remo should win...</p><p> </p><p>

Up until now, Frehley has always been at the top of the show & in THE most important program over-and-over-again. That said, the "Warzone Cell" changes all of that. I'm just hoping the 'Cell doesn't produce an injury or two this close to "SC33". That could be quite a challenge; given who could come down with an injury.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ultimately, I didn't want to throw a bunch of matches together that could project "SC33" with a little less luster. I wanted to keep some of these guys away from singles action; however, setting them up for a number of possibilities at the biggest PPV of the year. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Davids/Frehley is certainly in a mini-feud mode right now but I feel it's really helping Des along. He's at a B+ in momentum and a C+ in popularity right now. While his pop hasn't budged much, his momentum has sky-rocketed recently. Even if he loses at "Times of Trouble", this scenario has given him quite a rub. Plus, the addition of Peter Michaels into the feud, the whole 'is he really working with Davids?', can add some mystery now & eventually build to a larger program going forward.</div><p></p>

Kazikaze vs. “THE DARK DESTROYER” Steve Frehley

Jobber squash #1...

Kurt Laramee vs. “THE HONORABLE” Valiant w/ Hannah

...Jobber squash #2. Wait...Kurt Laramee is still in the SWF?

The Awesomeness w/ Dawn the Cheerleader vs. The Truth w/ Jungle Lord and Zim-ME

The numbers game will work in The Truth's advantage.

A chosen member of ‘Team Faith’ vs. A chosen member of The Establishment

Fourth member makes his presence felt for The Establishment...

SWF OWNER Rich Money w/ The Establishment vs. The unknown 4th Member of ‘Team Faith’

And here it's Team Faith's turn to let their fourth member send the fans home happy. I concur with the others' predictions. This could either be Bruce the Giant or Rocky Golden.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS - I smell a major swerve coming here.
