GAMMA 26: Rubenstein v Patinkin took place on Sunday 21st July, with Junior Patinkin (#10, 16-1) beating Spencer Rubenstein (#12, 13-4) by arm triangle submission in the 5th round of what was described as a “fantastic” contest to win the GAMMA Light Heavyweight Championship. Also on the card, Canadian Mike Watson (10-0) extended his undefeated record with a surprise KO win over highly ranked Anthony LeToussier (#8, 13-1) in another fantastic bout.

World #1 Heavyweight Hassan Fezzik extended his incredible unbeaten career to 27 bouts in beating #5 Mason Archer (17-4) by KO in the third round to retain his ALPHA-1 Heavyweight title at their latest event on Saturday 27th July. Elsewhere #19 Heavyweight Kunimichi Kikuchi (26-4) upset Ari Peltonen (#7, 24-8) in a poor match that was decided unanimously by the judges, and at Welterweight, Fukusaburu Hirano (11-1-1) knocked out #10 Chew Chua (18-5) in the second round

Press release

Signature Martial Arts brings you its latest MMA extravaganza SIGMA 10: Mellberg v Lermontov on Friday 26th August from Sportshalle Geissen-Ost in Geissen, Germany. The main event will see SIGMA Lightweight champion Lukas Mellberg (#5, 17-3) make the first defence of his title against unbeaten Russian spetznaz exponent Fiyero Lermontov (#16, 11-0).

Co-headlining the event will be a Heavyweight bout between the 'Great Bear' Aleksander Ivanov (7-0) and 22-year-old Romanian newcomer Iancu Trailescu (4-0). At Light Heavyweight, we will see Aussie Shane Gilchrist (12-5) match up against Gavriil Sviridov (4-2); both men are coming off a defeat and their future may depend on their performance.

Veteran Featherweight Benedikt Streit (19-5) from Munich will take on debutant Jan Ilic (1-0) and we will see whether his tactics work as efficiently against the good sprawl that the Pole is reputed to possess. Finally, Italian Carmelo Rossi (8-3) will fight Hamburg's Roland Furtwangler (1-0) in the Welterweight division.

Injury report

The big news from the trainers is that new Lightweight champ Fiyero Lermontov will be out of action for more than six months as he recovers from an arm injury suffered during his fight.

The athletic commission have imposed precautionary suspensions of 1 month on Iancu Trailescu, 2 months on Jan Ilic and three months of Lukas Mellberg and Gavriil Sviridov. They've gone all out and put Roland Furtwangler on the shelf for four months. Sviridov's suspension may not mean much for SIGMA, as his contract is up and I'm not inclined to renew.

Press Release

Signature Martial Arts brings you SIGMA 12: Mickiewicz v Kurri on Sunday 14th October from the Anhalt Arena in Dessau, Germany.

The headlining match will see SIGMA Light Heavyweight champion Nicolai Mickiewicz (#5, 20-4) defend his crown against the impressive Finn Matti Kurri (8-0-1). Backing this up will be a potential Middleweight title eliminator, with Nigerian Casim Yenkini (11-2) taking on Czech wrestler Jaromir Grygera (#13, 8-5). Both men took impressive wins last time out and will fight for the opportunity to face Middleweight champion Fjodor Kanchelskis down the line.

At Featherweight, Norwegian wrestler Hans Christian Bloch (2-0) will fight 19-year-old Portuguese Jiu Jitsu black belt Nuno Valentino (3-0). Another debutant, Christijan van Belkum (2-0) from Rotterdam puts his kick boxing skills on show against Bulgaria's Dominykas Jankovic (9-2) at Welterweight, and Lightweights Maurice Braudel (6-2) and Dieter Kolzig (2-1) will open up proceedings.
