But for a side-game, it'd be cool to control the top two and have a say in who goes where. When you have one company, then you end up getting all the good guys (which is cool, but it can get old). It'd nice to mix and match.</p>

  • 2 weeks later...

I usually tended to take XCC and develop it from there, hoping to be able to eventually steal all of the top fighters from the other organisations so as to hamper their growth while supplementing my own.

...However...

I've wanted to go with a small, custom, company for a while that is based in Australia and struggle it along until, hopefully, it becomes a rampaging powerhouse.

That being said I've never designed a pleb company before, so can I ask you guys who have done it before - what settings/numbers do you go with for such a thing? I guess the main thought would be initial capital - How much money to assign the fledgling company with which it can being the arduous process of buying talent for an empty roster.

...I don't want to give too little, otherwise the entire project is doomed to failure before it begins, but giving too much is essentially cheating. Just not sure.

So I've changed my mind a bit. I'm gonna do ALPHA-1 first when the game comes out on Tuesday. GAMMA is my go-to promotion, but I want to save it for when CV-Expanded gets released. So ALPHA-1 will be my 'trial' long-term game. I've never really done a long term ALPHA game so hopefully I can at least get a year or two in before CVE comes out.

My first game will most likely be with GAMMA although it may not go that well since I haven't really played the WMMA series outside of the respective demos for each release (since 2). I do plan on buying this game though which will be the first GDS title I will be buying that's not TEW.

For those planning on doing new startup companies...That's usually what I like to do as well.. Just wondering however if you believe it will be feasible in this version? The fact that you can't sign exclusive contracts and that the higher up promotions actively raid your better talent to me makes it seem like it will be difficult to develop and keep stars, and thus put on good shows....

as others have suggested.weather the 1st signing spree if you dont wanna deal with the hassle. for me? having that risk of getting poached is more true to life.

i would probably still bug test this game if i do get it until its satable enough to play long games then probably play the Expanded C-Verse mod or WEFF on the default DB with a names and skin mod

What do you mean? It's more likely right at the start that the other companies will try to poach?

I don't mind poaching to a certain degree... But if GAMMA is going to be offering an exclusive contract, won't they win out EVERY time versus the regional promotion, even if I'm willing to pay more? So essentially any time GAMMA or another group decides they want one of my guys, they are gone?

This is actually why I am looking forward to starting from scratch so much more in this version. In a couple of test runs I was able to outbid Gamma initially for guys like Sylvester Collins and Wilson Franklyn, but ended up paying each $1000 more per fight than my original offer.

So after signing a 2-3 like them to each of my three weight classes it forced me to look more carefully at guys that Gamma may not want, so instead of a roster of top young prospects I have a few and then a lot of aging veterans that have some name recognition and journeymen.

I really think it makes things so much more realistic and mirrors what starting a new promotion will really be like. It will be interesting to see how it plays out long term once the game is released.

Interesting, to be honest in my test of a new game I used the "partially delegate" button so I ended up not getting some of the guys I wanted.. BUt I was also a bit unclear whether or not I was able to jump in and outbid if it ends up my offer isn't number one. I need to play around with that some more.

I also in my test start with SOME popularity (around 33 per cent I think), as I like a challenge, but not necessarily a grind of however many years it would be before I could make money. I was able to actually sign a tiny broadcasting deal right off the top and actually make money in my first show too .. Maybe that makes it too easy, we'll see. I might go completely 0 pop when I start.. as I *think* in this game you can gain popularity faster than just 2 per cent each show as seemed to be the way in WMMA 3 (I am basing that off only a +10 per cent popularity boost when I ran a Foster versus Kapur main event as GAMMA).

I'm confused re: the rules about being able to sign fighters from certain regions..

I get it as a regional promotion say based in US, you can't go and sign a fighter from Asia or something..

But, does that mean that GAMMA and ALPHA-1 can't poach each other's rosters, as they are only national level companies, but based in different places? (ie. GAMMA can't poach fighters outside of North America, same for ALPHA in their region) ... Or am I misunderstanding how that works?

Yeah I lost all the guys Gamma bid on the first test as I just blew off the emails that Gamma had offered. The second game if Gamma offered anyone I really wanted I would boost my bid. With Collins I started at 3K per fight, Gamma would slightly better my offer and also offer a guaranteed deal. I had to renegotiate three times and after I offered 4 K they didn't go any higher and he signed.

It will be curious to see if he stays if they come back after him, but I do like the way it played out and good to get one away from the "big boys" but for that amount of money he better work out :)

GAMMA and ALPHA use exclusive contracts so most of their rosters cant be poached unless the negotiating window is open

It's because of the new motivation stat. If they're set to do it for the money, they'll stay with you. Most are logically there for a career, and GAMMA is most prestigious so yeah... Glory-getters are also better off with GAMMA. That leaves little to you. You're going to have to find out who's all for the money. Those you can probably keep.

I'm going to make my first game easy street, playing WEFF and immediately editing the round lenght to 5 minutes. With the added women from CVE, there'll be plenty of luxury to pick whoever you like. :)
