FivePacks

Recommended Posts

Some good suggestions above, cheers for the responses!

- I can't do female renders, sorry. To be honest, I think there's a heap of really good ones out there and there probably isn't the same need for even more of them - particularly from someone with no good textures or clothes for female fighters! There's also an element of selfishness here - I never use female fighters in my game so I'd never use the renders.

- Flyweights - would love to do this, but as far as I'm aware there aren't any in the default database. It is pretty daunting to do this from scratch short of some guidance as how to balance the game world - ideally this would come from Adam. If I keep making smaller weight fighters, I'll try to make the majority of them capable of dropping to 125 lbs if people desire to open up a flyweight division in their game.

- Russians. Good call, one of the under-represented nationalities no doubt.

I also hope Adam would call for FW renders for the release of WMMA4 v1.1 (where the database might be updated further).

If Scottie doesn't mind, I'm willing to provide some Sixpacks as I like the idea of thematic expansions without the need to download entire databases.

I'm not the most creative guy, so unless people send me profiles they will just be recycled renders from O+/CVE.

Russia definitely needs some love. I'm playing as KDMFC, locked to Japan, Asia & Russia and no fighters are generating in Russia at all.

And I fully agree with the Flyweight decision. The AI won't use it (unless the AI changed) but if you make the new fighters capable of 125 or lower, that gives the player the option for it.

I'd like to contribute to the thread, as I like the concept and it'd be confusing to make a seperate thread. I don't want to make new fighters, just present the ones from CVE in thematic bundles. The purpose of this is to allow people to import them into the default database without much problems. It also serves to familiarize people with the fighters' background. The first pack will be the best boxers from CVE, as the default db lacks top strikers in the women's department. Other packs will become available featuring the 'longest' and 'shortest' fighters, the 'talkers', 'colourful characters', 'oddballs', 'lookers', 'bitches', regional packs, 'submission specialists', 'heavy hands', 'short fuses', etc.

FivePack Women#1: Boxing Greats

http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/Marginal0/WMMA/FivePackW1.jpg

The C-verse quickly runs dry of great female strikers. This pack is a good remedy.

Background in 'Boxing', ranging from accomplished to world class

From L to R:

Bella Mori - FW, 2003

A hero in Mexico, Mori is the youngest gold medalist in women’s boxing history at the Olympics. She could have gone into acting after she received this worldwide notoriety, but instead she gave MMA a try. This may not have been the best idea as she had trouble converting her offense to an MMA environment. She can beat you if you want to stand and trade punches with her, but anyone with any kind of ground game should have no problem with her. Her dirty boxing is improving at an unbelievable rate.

Darcy "Frenzy" McKenzie - SW/FlyW, 2001

Scottish darling Darcy McKenzie started competing as an amateur boxer at age 16, and very quickly became a hit with fans and the media—local papers coined the nickname "Frenzy McKenzie" in reference to her excellent speed and pacing. As MMA became more popular in the UK, she made the transition and began working on her all-around game. In 2001, she announced her plans for a professional debut.

"Dustbowl" Janet Bower - FW, 2005

Coming from a boxing background, Janet Bower is good with her hands, her strikes being both powerful and clinically precise. As a newcomer to MMA, her wrestling and submission games are shoddy at best, and she will need to fill these gaps in her game if she hopes to be last long at the higher levels of cagefighting.

"Hardrada" Kyra Ulven - BW, 2004

Daughter of a former Norwegian boxing champion, Kyra Ulven has been training for most of her life, and had her first boxing match at 13. Today she has world-class skill in her hands and ranks among the best boxers in MMA, regardless of gender. Kyra wants her name next to her father in the history books, but as boxing is declining fast she looked for other means to impose herself. Considering her rapidly-improving defensive grappling, Kyra has the potential to do great things.

"Lefty" Nancy Leighton - FW, 2006

One of the best boxers in the country and a former World Champion in her early days, many thought Nancy was over when a 4-fight losing streak (culminating in a broken nose) got her announcing her early retirement of the sport with only 28 years old. After one year resting, she came back, but this time to try to use her name to make money in the MMA world. With a one-punch KO power and great boxing skills, Leighton has to overcome a non-existent takedown defense and ground game in order to go far in MMA.

Maybe it's just me but I hope Adam never bothers with the default database ever again. I'd prefer for him to spend his time on more important things and not things that we can do ourselves.

FivePack Women#2: Bad Bitchez

http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/Marginal0/WMMA/FivePackW2.jpg

Here's the second pack with some of the meanest women to step inside the cage.

Personality: Antagonistic, paired with some attitude traits

From L to R:

"Hart Hittin'" Amber Whitton - BW, 2002

Whitton is a skilled wrestler with a collegiate national title under her belt. Also under her belt is a very sturdy frame that makes her very difficult to control in a clinch. An exceptional game planner and tactician, but when Whitton isn’t prepping for her next fight, she’s causing them at the club. Because of all this extracurricular brawling, she has developed a glass jaw. Still, she’s a badass that you wouldn’t want to mix up with on her worst day.

Larissa "Larshevik" Larionova - BW, 2001

Larionova is a cold, emotionless Sambo fighter out of Russia. She’s a good fighter when using her hands, whether it is for striking or takedowns, but she must learn to use her lower body more if she wants to raise her level. Her grandmother raised her to be proud of her communist heritage. Because of this, she’s vocal about her dislike of the western world. She feeds off of the hatred that many fans have towards her, and spends every free minute she has getting better.

Brandy "The Brat" Clazine - FlyW, 2005

A self-proclaimed brat, Brandy Clazine breaks the 'rich snob' stereotype by proving her toughness inside a cage. She plays the 'bad girl' role very well, but struggles to back it up in a fight, where she tends to spend more time trying to not get hit, then to actually finish a fight.

Marian "La Mala Perra" Sanchez - BW/FlyW, 2006

Marian Sanchez is a talented catch wrestler who has trained in other areas in order to become a dangerous MMA fighter. She is a cocky trashtalker who loves to act the bitch, but unfortunately doesn't have the jaw to withstand some of the punishment if she's on the receicing end of some vindictive high kicks.

Candice "Candy" Edwards - FW, 2008

Candice 'Candy' Edwards is nowhere near as sweet as her name might lead you to think. She holds deadly knock out power in her hands, which even the most iron chins should fear. On top of her tendency to hurt her opponents physically, she also loves to play the villain for the fans.

Hey, I made a couple of those <3

I like this because it puts some focus on people that I've yet to really notice in CVE. Like Kyra Ulven, who just showed up in my game. So now I can shortlist her and keep an eye out.

Of the ten you posted, the only one I used so far was Darcy McKenzie, and she didn't do well. I put her on shortlist again to look out for her.

FivePack #6 - In a Rush(ian)

"The Scourge of the North"

Ali MAGOMEDOV

Makhachkala, Russia | Boxing | 0-0 | Debut: December 2001

The massive Avar-Russian fighter has just one plan when he comes to fight - look for the knock out. The veteran boxer had a moderately successful career at a regional level in Russia, and his MMA career will likely be spent searching for a payday. He has absolutely no ground game to speak of, but his big right hand will at the very least keep unprepared opponents honest.

"The Interrogator"

Thomas KUZNETSOV

Moscow, Russia | Sambo | 0-0 | Debut: January 2002

Thomas "The Interrogator" Kuznetsov is a distinguished sambo fighter who looks to hurt opponents with a smothering top game. The talented young man possesses good all-round grappling skills, but his standing striking is a work in progress and a long way off elite. His determination to succeed is evident, though, and his height makes him a difficult opponent for many fighters at 170.

"The Hedonist"

Vitaly ARTEMIEV

Saint Petersburg, Russia | Kick Boxing | 8-0 | Debut: May 1997

Despite being one of the heavyweight world's most physically impressive competitors, "The Hedonist's" skills do not match his physique. The Russian started his career as a kick boxer, but has developed more strings to his bow to become a competent grappler. His unbeaten record has come primarily through fights with Russian scrubs, and, despite improvement, Kushnarev still looks awkward in MMA fights.

"Fame"

Vitaly ARTEMIEV

Saint Petersburg, Russia | MMA | 0-0 | Debut: January 2001

Vitaly "Fame" Artemiev is a decent all-round fighter, who has trained extensively to cover glaring weaknesses. Cross-training at such a young age has, however, come at the expense of developing any outstanding strength which means that, at 20, he is a mediocre fighter.

"The Rottweiler"

Maxim BEZRUKOV

Saint Petersburg, Russia | Freestyle Wrestling | 0-0 | Debut: December 2000

Maxim Bezrukov is a middle of the road grappler with few fight-winning strengths. The young Russian is at his best in the clinch where he aims to bully opponents against the ropes with his dirty boxing. In contrast, his stand-up is slow and sloppy, but he compensates for that with a strong chin.

FivePack Women#3: Striking Swedes

http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/Marginal0/WMMA/FivePackW3.jpg

The theme here is obvious: We had to make numerous overpowered Swedish fighters or Asaemon wouldn't include the pack in the database (ok, not really. :p, and they're also not that powerful imo, but hey... :p).

Nationality: Swedish

From L to R:

Salma "The Savant" Lindqvist - SW, 2000

A former silver medal winner at the University Games in freestyle wrestling, Salma certainly has the credentials to make an impact in professional MMA. Her parents are both scientists who disapprove of her career choice, but Salma still has a degree in linguistics if her fighting doesn't work out. In the cage, she rarely is able to finish the fight, embracing the grind more than taking risks. As a result, she's not the most marketable of fighters.

"The Stockholm Sweetheart" Emeli Sjöberg - SW, 2000

Sjöberg is an intelligent fighter who is well known for her powerful kicks and bright smile. She’s won over the hearts of fans and media with her bubbly personality and friendly demeanor. Sjöberg’s speed, conditioning, and flexibility give her a leg up against elite wrestlers who want to clinch their way to decisions against her.

"The Valkyrie" Ingrid Westermark - FW/BW, 2003

Having represented Sweden in the 2000 Olympics at only 18 years of age, Ingrid Westermark is an explosive wrestler capable of introducing her opponents to the canvas face-first in a variety of ways, all of them painful. While not afraid to engage in a standup war, she simply doesn't have the skills to strike effectively yet, although that may change in time.

"Lovely" Line Löfgren - SW/FlyW, 2003

Löfgren is the daughter of a respected Swedish baron. She was brought up without any luxury, and chose to live on her own after she graduated in 'Geisteswissenshaften' from the university of Leipzig. Having wrestled throughout high-school, she has a decent base to start, but still needs a lot of work if she wants to play a significant role in the sport. Relatively good-looking for a fighter (hence the nickname), she chooses not to bring that aspect into play, shying from the media attention.

"Swedish Supergirl" Caroline Olsson - FW, 2003

A former model who met Gunnar Nilsson while working as ring girl in a Local event, Caroline Olsson started to train with the "Swedish Superman" and after two years getting ready, she finally debuted, showing that the agressiveness of Nilsson has been passed to the "Swedish Supergirl" hands, knocking her opponent out in the very first round.

FivePack Women#4: Mystery pack

http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/Marginal0/WMMA/FivePackW4.jpg

There's definitely a common trait here, but I'm going to leave people guessing. Also includes some alternate render for Chelsea as she's one of my favorite characters from CVE.

???????

From L to R:

Tess "The Wall" Wallin - BW, 2004

Wallin has dabbed in many sports - some among them combat sports - but never seemed eager enough to pursue a competitive career. Urged on by her very determined boyfriend and personal coach, she finally made the move to professional MMA. Though she has a broad skillset and the right physical tools, she's yet to discover what her strenghts are. Before making the move to pro, she usually just controlled her opponents against the cage, afraid to stand and bang with them.

Elisha "Roundhouse" Carrasco - FlyW, 2008

Elisha Carrasco is an accomplished kick boxer from Florida that simply loves to kick the crap out of people. She can't do much on the ground or in the clinch, but if she's standing up then you better believe she'll be trying to kick your face off.

"Merciless" Camille Mercier - FW, 2000

Bronze medal winner in Judo in the 2008 Olympics, Camille Mercier is a top prospect who decided to make the transition to MMA. Little is known of her striking because in her first couple fights all she has done was to take her opponents down in the first ten seconds and proceed to finish them shortly after that. With the level of her opponents raising, the question to ask is until when the amazing grappling skills of Mercier are going to be able to keep her undefeated.

"The Punk Rock Princess" Chelsea Sawyer - FlyW, 2003

In the beginning of her amateur career, Chelsea Sawyer was urged by a sleazy manager that 'sex sells', so she was forced to bleach her hair blonde and wear skimpy clothes as she knocked girls out. With an exciting striking style that manages to be both technical and dirty at the same time, she garnered a following that took her seriously as a fighter despite the smutty circumstances she was in. By the end of her amateur career, she had gone back to her roots as the 'Punk Rock Princess' and headed into the pro circuit more confident then ever.

"Mistress" Theadora Schevers - BW, 2008

'Mistress' Theadora Schevers is a Dutch Taekwondo fighter that gets most of her attention from the attitude she portrays outside of the cage. She likes to play the mental game and talk trash to her opponents, but it's not she needs to: she's a decent fighter in her own right, albeit without polish in her ground game.

FivePack #7 - Rush(ian) About... Again.

"Windbreaker"

Ivan GLAZKOV

Makhachkala, Russia | BJJ | 0-0 | Debut: January 2001

Ivan Glazkov is a jiu-jitsu student from Moscow with very few weapons. Although at home on the mat, Glazkov's stand-up deficiencies might prove too much for him to overcome. Despite this, Glazkov is dedicated to the sport, rarely gives up and is a meticulous planner.

"The Obelisk from Omsk"

Andrey BUTENKO

Omsk, Russia | Muay Thai | 0-0 | Debut: December 2001

"The Obelisk" is a dangerous fighter from a Muay Thai background, who is arguably one of the better young strikers going around. His laser-accurate left-hand has, throughout his burgeoning Muay Thai days, cruelled opponents, and he poses a serious threat from the clinch. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't cross-trained in grappling arts, and is almost entirely one-dimensional.

"Khumo"

Lev USMANOV

Moscow, Russia | Greco-Roman Wrestling | 0-0 | Debut: December 2002

Born in Uzbekistan, the Russian wrestler is a short, dogged grappler who seems to put every fibre of his being into his takedowns. One of the favourites in the men's 96 kg freestyle event at the 2000 Olympic Games, Usmanov was stunned in the quarterfinals by eventual silver medalist Jimmy Sjöberg. He has since spent the majority of the past two years preparing for his MMA debut, where he has proved a surprisingly dab hand at submissions. Question marks remain over his striking, but there is little doubt that the squat Russian wrestler will be a tough opponent for most at 205.

Sharif IBRAGIMOV

Makhachkala, Russia | Azar Style Kung Fu | 2-0 | Debut: January 2000

Sharif Ibragimov is a well-rounded fighter who prefers to keep fights standing. The youngster's eschewed more traditional grappling arts to become well-versed in kung fu, and his focus on both striking and grappling should serve him well as he continues to develop as a fighter. The question about Ibragimov is whether he is in MMA for the long haul or will get out when the going gets tough.

"The Soul Destroyer"

Mikhail GREKOV

Saint Petersburg, Russia | Hand-to-Hand Combat | 5-0 | Debut: June 1999

The imposing "Soul Destroyer", Mikhail Grekov is a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. The 26-year old has a background in sambo and kick boxing, and has a skill set that serves him well in pretty much all situations. Although a highly capable striker, Grekov can succumb to aggressive heavy hitters.

The Russian only fights sporadically and prefers to share his time between his MMA and kick boxing careers. While he could potentially fight at light heavyweight, he seems to be unwilling to cut much below his walking weight.

I think there are about three or four fighters based in Africa in the default database. I can't change that all at once, but here are five to whet the appetite.

http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af77/gammadiary/fp8900.png

FivePack #8 - Blessing the Rains

"The Rising Phoenix"

Alexander KLOPPERS

Durban, South Africa | Luta Livre | 0-0 | Debut: December 2001

Trained in the Brazilian art of Luta Livre, Kloppers is a talented all-rounder with a big future in the burgeoning African MMA scene. "The Rising Phoenix" has a well-rounded game with striking heavily influenced by Muay Thai training and an active guard. A giant at 155 lbs, Kloppers' striking can be awkward but his reach gives him a big advantage over most in his division.
"The Hit-Man"

Trevor DRYSDALE

Johannesburg, South Africa | Boxing | 7-3 | Debut: January 1998

Trevor "The Hit-Man" Drysdale is a journeyman boxer from Johannesburg. His strength is his technical striking, although he has only once managed to finish an opponent by knock out. His MMA wins so far have come through his superior conditioning and his ability to out-point opponents in the later rounds of fights. His three MMA losses to date have all seen him outclassed by mid-range submission specialists.
"The Wolf"

João ALVES

Cape Town, South Africa (by way of Luanda, Angola) | Greco-Roman Wrestling | 0-0 | Debut: January 2001

João Alves is a rare prospect from Angola who is known for his high quality cardio and conditioning. The southpaw, who now fights out of Cape Town, is an ultra-aggressive Muay Thai fighter with decent hand speed. Offensively, he has next to nothing on the ground, but he has an uncanny ability to return fights to a standing position.
"Gorgeous"

George ZWANE

Cape Town, South Africa | Muay Thai | 0-0 | Debut: January 2001

Although still young, "Gorgeous" George Zwane has the makings of a talented yet hugely frustrating fighter. A naturally gifted striker, Zwane seems unwilling to train hard enough to make it as an MMA fighter. On his day, the ultra-aggressive striker could be as dangerous as any fighter on the African MMA scene, but his poor work ethic is likely to hold him back.

"The Yellow Menace"

Dirk du PREEZ

Durban, South Africa | Boxing | 0-0 | Debut: June 2001

A former national heavyweight boxing champion in his native South Africa, "The Yellow Menace" was a regular on the boxing and kick boxing circuits in Africa and Europe in the late 1990s. Despite mixed results, the Durbanite developed a sizeable following due to his exciting fights, granite chin and ever-present charisma. Now past his peak, du Preez is always after a buck and intends to balance his entry into MMA with continued boxing and kick boxing paydays. His MMA career is unlikely to be long, but there is bound to be some fun along the way.

Where did you get the names for these picks? I see the women who are in the game but I don't see the men.

So, the women are from CVE (CornellVerse Expanded), which Blackman is a contributor to. That's why you might see them. Blackman is just making them available for people to download separately into the default (or another) database.

The men are creations of Scottie. You have to actually download the database and import them into wherever you want to be able to use that.

FivePack #9 - That uhh... other Toto song?

"Frenzied Fists"

Clancy ERASMUS

Pretoria, South Africa | Shoot Boxing | 0-0 | Debut: June 2001

An extremely limited fighter, Clancy Erasmus is an ultra-aggressive fighter who eschews well-crafted combinations in favour of haymakers. Despite his modus operandi, Erasmus is not a technically gifted striker and will probably be found out against many other pure strikers. Against grapplers of nearly any quality, his chances are worse.

"The Juggernaut"

Karl DAVIDS

Cape Town, South Africa | Brawling | 0-0 | Debut: January 2002

A lumbering beast of a man, Karl Davids is an imposing opponent whose modus operandi is to push opponents up against the ropes or the cage and hurt them with his dirty boxing. "The Juggernaut" firmly believes his strength will carry him a long way, but the MMA latecomer deals poorly with heavy hitters and has been labelled by some as a "coward". Furthermore, rumours abound that he has had extensive pharmaceutical assistance in reaching his current physical state.

"The Mentalist"

Jaco VAN BILJON

Pretoria, South Africa | MMA | 18-9 | Debut: September 1994

One of South Africa's first true "mixed" martial artists, "The Mentalist" Jaco Van Biljon has managed to build a decent career for himself without ever breaking through as a top star in Africa's developing MMA scene. Although consistently competitive and one of the continent's hardest workers, Van Biljon is not a naturally gifted athlete and does not excel in any one area of MMA.

"amaXhosa Warrior"

Emmanuel MBAMBO

Johannesburg, South Africa | Judo | 0-0 | Debut: January 2002

Emmanuel Mbambo is a judoka from Johannesburg known for his competent grappling and surprisingly heavy hands. Despite his technical prowess and natural power, Mbambo is slow - exceptionally so - and his discipline apparently does not extend to his physical condition. These aspects of his game must improve if he wishes to make it to the peak of the African MMA scene.

Thando BOYANA

Harding, South Africa | Kick Boxing | 0-0 | Debut: December 2000

Hard-working Thando Boyana stands in good stead when it comes to making a name for himself on the African MMA scene. Despite being more comfortable on his feet, the youngster also took Brazilian Jiu Jitsu up at an early age and has therefore developed a relatively well-rounded game. Whether or not he can go onto greater things depends on a combination of perseverance and luck.

Can someone help me out with the installation of these, when I paste over the wmma4 file in the default database the new fighters don't show up. Do I need to do something with the .DS_Store files that come with it or anything?

Yikes, okay, you don't want to paste over any files! Basically what you want to do is treat/set up each pack as its own mini-mod and import through the editor each of the new fighters into the default database

Yep, as Phreak said you definitely don't want to be copying over anything - particularly without backing it up. Just treat it as another database and copy the pictures to whichever database you import the fighters to.

Any DS_Store files come from the fact I'm using a Mac, I presume. Just ignore them or turn off hidden files.
