Small Questions Thread & "Living FAQ"

Is there anyway to adjust the contract length of an existing broadcaster deal?

I know you can adjust worker contract lengths but cannot seem to find anything to do this with TV Shows?

That would be done either as an extension or by cancelling the deal and then creating a new one. Generally speaking you can't just decide to vastly reduce the length just because you no longer want it as you're contractually obliged to fulfil the deal.

Is there a "beginner's guide" thread for TEW anywhere? I seem to recall one existing way back when, but not for more recent versions. I guess that's what this thread is for, sort of, but I'm not thinking of small questions.

It'd be somewhere between a manual and the promotion specific threads, just setting out the fundamentals like how to get someone over, how to get/keep a feud hot and so on.

And before someone says 'Hot angles/matches, duh' please bear in mind that not everyone runs WWE/SWF. It'd be a thread that could accumulate the wisdom/experience of veteran players (like Remianen, for example) who've run countless games over all the versions and know how to run companies that grow and build new stars. Whether to rely on the default angles or create your own ones. How to pace a feud when you're booking monthly shows vs. a regular TV/PPV schedule. It might include guidance on what should be considered successful at different size levels - an E show at local is small, not so much at regional, and so on.

A thread like this could even be useful for more experienced players - I know I have trouble getting workers over in smaller feds, for example, so my ratings tend to stagnate as my main eventers don't gain as much from their matches as the undercard do.

Remember that segment grades are relative to promotion size. So a D+ rated angle in a local promotion is FIRE. At those sizes, you don't want your workers getting over quickly because they'll move beyond your budget. Unless you're like me and use your most over workers multiple times per show (and you really should), that could make them cost-prohibitive.

At local and small, my most expensive workers are often the people who can affect the show in more than one way. In past games, I typically splurged on a highly rated road agent for this reason (remember Crippler Ray Kingman back in the day?). If you've been to any micro-indy shows at all, you can easily get an idea of how things probably should work. The typical formula I've seen has been:

Open with angle by authority figure (usually the owner and/or booker)

Match between trainees (often a tag match)

Midcard vs Midcard match

Promo by worker(s) in the advertised main event (shown on the flatscreens if they're fancy)

Upper mid vs upper mid match

Promo by other worker(s) in the advertised main event

Main event match, sometimes ending in a schmozz featuring everyone else who worked on the show

As you can see, everybody (except the person/people in charge) worked at least twice during the show. That's a value proposition. That also happens to be how it's done in real life, many times. Think of John Cena with the US Open Challenge thing. He'd come out and cut a promo (angle), lay down the challenge (angle), someone answers the challenge (angle), then they'd have the match. That's four uses from a (if not THE) top guy, on a written contract. Vanity booking does the same thing (think of Triple H and Steph during the height of The Authority bit - 20 minute opening angle then multiple smaller angles during the show).

If you have trouble getting your main eventers over but your undercard has no issues, try pitting your main eventers against your best undercard workers but don't use the 'open match' note. The goal is to make the main eventer seem a lot better (and in this instance, you probably don't want it as your main event). Or, open your show with a squash with a main eventer and an undercard worker. The undercard worker can be made up later but you're trying to boost your headliners so it's all good.

Why do some of my main eventers lose popularity between shows? Im running weekly shows as a cult level promotion. It's happening mostly to younger main event guys like Aaron Andrews while more established guys like Marat and guys lower on the card have been fine.

I have all my main event workers on written deals. It usually happens after a show where they didn't gain any popularity. My typical method involved getting one non-wrestler as over as possible and using them (in angles) to bootstrap whoever I wanted. That's why people like Emma Chase and Melanie Florence (and Jenny Playmate) hold so much value for me. Once they have the entertainment skills, getting the overness happens naturally over time, since they're used so often. And once they have the overness, everyone they work with is boosted. However, I would consider changing my product to more of a performance bias. The workers you have can GO in the ring so they may be better served gaining overness that way. You'll also find that you can run ME/UM and sometimes even ME/MC matches and still increase your promotion's popularity because of the skill of the workers involved. For that reason, I typically shy away from popularity biased products.

Note, he admits that a fed with a product that runs off overness (popularity) rather than performance is much more difficult to book. You can't just ride 1-2 top performers up and have them bring the rest up. You have to build overness with feuds, good matches and some well timed upset wins.

I'm a regional fed that needs to break 60 pop in the South West to gain popularity. I ran three months straight ever show in the South West and had show ratings higher than 60 every time, is my popularity slowed due to over exposure of live events in the area? If so, does anyone know the actual in game match on when I should return to South West again? This is my home territory.

It can't just be 'higher than 60', it has to be significantly higher than 60 (like 72ish or higher). You'll also be stymied by a poor industry rating and/or economy. It's not just booking good shows. There are things that are beyond your control that can affect you as well.

Try running a show or two in the North West or Northern Mexico (your spillover areas) and see if that helps. I haven't encountered fan fatigue just yet but I rotate my shows (based in Mid South with one show a month in Mid West and one a month in the South East or South West).

What determines the Prestige of a Title?

The quality of matches that title is contested in.

One of the question marks in-game states that you can run as many shows as you like in an area and not worry about fan fatigue... the only issue you will ever encounter is a drop in buy rates if you run more than 1 PPV a month, but that just makes sense. :)

end a storyline start another

is it possible to end a story at an event and then start one later on?

Basically ive got a couple of story lines I want to end and two of the wrestlers involved I want to start a story line with them.... te first part being how one has cost the other a crucial match in the PPV ie the match that would end the story hes involved in. However I cant seem find a way to do it and as far as I can tell you cant have people in multiple story lines so I do need to end the ones they are in first?

1) How much higher was your show rating over your current popularity? If your popularity is 60 and your show only got a 61 rating you won't see much of an improvement.

2) what is the important of the region. You jump up when your influence is over the minimum in the region, not your popularity. If a region has only 75% influence, you need to have 33% more popularity.

example. Target influence 60, region importance 75%

Popularity of 60 x .75 = 45 influence You are short.

Popularity of 72 x .75 = 54 Still short

Popularity of 80 X .75 = 60 You'd finally see the pop at 80 popularity.

To the best of my knowledge you can't end or start a storyline in the middle of running an event. The decisions about storylines have to be made before the bookings are complete and workers can only be major in one storyline per show.

So you'd have to end the storylines before the show and set up the new ones at the same time.

So I turned my long term save into a watcher. Ive noticed my company isnt expanding into any other regions. They just keep holding their show in the same location every show for years. They are in an alliance but its not protective anymore.

How can I have the company run shows in other regions?

I know you can only gain popularity in regions where you are seen (from events, a-shows or just holding a show there), but am I right in assuming that the popularity growth will be bigger or smaller depending on the size of the broadcaster? I mean, you would grow in popularity faster with an a-show on a network that has "Big" range, than a network that has "Small or Very Small" range, right?

The bigger the network the more people that see your show. The more people who see your show the more people that like your show and tune in more.

So yes. The bigger the range the faster your pop can grow/decline
