Five title matches and five Crowning Glory Series matches tonight led to a stacked pre show with guys normally on the main show. The action kicks off with the ladies as the former champion squares off against the first woman PSW signed. Greenwald has made no secret of her desire to win back the title. Neidhart has never fully hit her stride.

Two teams who have excellent chemistry and team work led to a decent and closely fought match. The Briscoes are one of three new teams who have all been very impressive in winning every match and they dispatched of the improving Shock & Awe in 11:12 when Mark Briscoe defeated Stu Sanders by pinfall with a Briscoe Bottom to reach the Quarter Finals. 64

Bray Wyatt has improved since aligning with Raven, picking up wins on a fairly frequent basis which earned him this title opportunity. However, he came up against a very impressive Youth champion in Eddie Kingston, to retain his title fairly comfortably in 8:47 by pinfall. Eddie Kingston makes defence number 6 of his PSW Youth Championship title. 54

Two teams that have somewhat lost their way since being champions. The Wolves have never really got going again since they lost them, while Londrick have more recently been on somewhat of an upturn, indeed they came close to winning the belts back at Top of the World.

London and Kendrick kept up their momentum here with victory in 13:51 when Paul London defeated Eddie Edwards by pinfall with a London Calling. 62

Amazing Kong (champion, with Adam Sandler) v Beth Phoenix

Kong beat Phoenix for the title in a three way match at Lethal and has never looked back. Having lost the rematch at Jeopardy, this is Phoenix’s second chance to get the title back.

She wasn’t able to take it. Phoenix is one strong lady, but add bulk to strength and you get Kong and watching this match you might begin to wonder just who will take the title off Kong… but then Joanie Laurer has recently made her debut so maybe in the future..? Anyway, Kong took this in 11:39 by pinfall. Amazing Kong makes defence number 5 of her PSW Women's Championship title. 54

‘Highlight Reel’ Rob Van Dam v Randy Orton

Two leader contenders in the Crowning Glory Series and former champions meet in the First Round, so one of many people’s picks will be going out at the first hurdle.

We got a very close match with RVD getting his foot on the rope after an RKO while Orton just got his shoulder up after a Frog Splash from Van Dam. It was tense and neither man wanted to be eliminated from the tournament.

Ultimately it was Orton who was going home defeated in 16:44 when Van Dam went up top again and hit another Frog Splash before getting the three. 69

Backstage and we see the World champion Cade Thesz with the leader of The Outlaws Eddie Guerrero. Guerrero says he is the master of any means necessary, so Jericho can talk all he wants, his champion Cade Thesz is keeping the title tonight and Jericho isn’t getting his wife back.67

Austin Aries (champion) v Matt Sydal

Matt Sydal has had problems with The Following in recent weeks, especially with the very public break up of the tag team To Kijar, With Love with T. J. Perkins. Perkins has since joined Raven’s Following and this TV Title match was a chance for Sydal to put all that to one side and win some individual gold.

We saw a good match, and one where Matt Sydal caused Austin Aries a few problems. Indeed, he looked set to win the title when he had Aries vulnerable, only for T. J. Perkins to run in and attack him in 18:52, causing the disqualification. Sydal wins the match but Aries keeps the belt. Aries retreats while Perkins continues to put the boots in on Sydal.64

A decent contest here between the former World champion Jimmy Yang and the always tough opponent Kid Kash. Yang has been very impressive in PSW and other companies and he showed he was too good for Kash by winning in 12:41 by pinfall with a Yang Time. 70

The Outlaws (Red & Daniels, champions, with Eddie Guerrero) v Chicago’s Finest

CM Punk and Colt Cabana observed that The Outlaws’ focus may not fully be on this match but on the World Championship match where Cade Thesz defends against Chris Jericho. If they thought that entering the match, they turned out to be wrong as Red and Daniels took the fight to them.

We saw a great match, which turned out to be the best of the night. Both teams utlitised some spectacular double team offence and both came close to winning a number of times. The champions were able to retain in 21:35 when Christopher Daniels defeated CM Punk by pinfall with a Last Rites. The Outlaws make defence number 3 of their PSW World Tag Team Championship titles. 81 – match of the night

PSW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

‘The Outlaw’ Cade Thesz (champion, with Eddie Guerrero) v ‘The Greatest Champion’ Chris Jericho

By any means necessary was the theme going into the main event… Jericho winning back the title anyway he can, The Outlaws putting Jericho off doing so any way they can, including kidnapping Jericho’s wife. Jericho had revenge on his mind as well as a title to win back.

The action was great though surprisingly the crowd wasn’t invested in the action as much as you might expect. Jericho was intent of hurting Thesz and this perhaps cost him winning the title when instead of going for a pin like he normally would, he would inflict further and sometimes brutal punishment on the champion.

Ultimately Eddie Guerrero was the difference maker. With Jericho going for a Lionsault, Guerrero moved the ropes. Jericho went crashing to the match and Thesz went for a quick cover… with Guerrero holding onto Jericho’s foot so he couldn’t kick out. The referee’s hand slapped the mat for a third time in 37:49 and Cade Thesz retained by pinfall. Cade Thesz makes defence number 3 of his PSW World Championship title. 72

We start the show in Central Park, New York City. The world famous park sees Chris Jericho standing on a path, waiting for somebody. His wife appears, dirty and bedraggled but seemingly unhurt having been abducted by The Outlaws two weeks ago. The couple share a long embrace before they head off towards a taxi rank and get in a famous yellow taxi. Next stop for Jericho is the Carnesecca Arena in Queens for tonight’s main event. 62

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but non-existent crowd heat, Alex Wright defeated Eddie Colon in 8:19 by submission with a STF. 47

The Outlaws are in a city, but it’s clear they aren’t in New York City but they’re actually much further away from tonight’s show as they are in Chicago. They walk the streets causing general mayhem including grafitting “Chicago sucks” on the side of a hotel wall, tipping over trash cans in the main shopping mall and even mugging a young man on a busy street.
