PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Great Sasuke defeated Lance Storm in 9:49 by pinfall with a Thunder Fire Power Bomb. 62

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Havana Pitbulls defeated Youth Heroes in 10:01 when Rocky Romero defeated Reckless Youth by submission. 58

Chris Hero needs something to freshen up his character.

Hero and Youth have excellent chemistry.

Youth Heroes have lost their last 5 matches.

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Austin Aries defeated Alex Wright in 12:27 by pinfall with a Brainbuster. 60

CROWNING GLORY XI

Sunday, week 2, October 2011

Live on Adelphia (USA), MVS Multivisión (Mexico) and Request TV (Canada) pay per view

Announcers: Potter and Bret Hart

American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida (19,600 capacity)

American-Airlines-Arena-1.jpg

Fireworks go off on the stage, down the ramp and around the ring as we kick off PSW’s biggest show of 2011 and the eleventh Crowning Glory.

Londrick v Shock & Awe

A good tag team match to kick off proceedings. Londrick were once long time champions and while those days are long behind us, they still pose a threat to any team. Shock & Awe on the other hand have been on a slow rise in PSW and have slowly but surely been racking up some wins and looking more impressive as they do so. They could soon be challengers for the title. They won again here in 10:03 when Stu Sanders defeated Brian Kendrick by pinfall. 61

Coleman and Sanders have excellent chemistry.

Stu Sanders is improving in technical skills.

PSW YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

Marty Scurll (champion) v Ricky Steamboat Jr

The first of five championship matches tonight sees Marty Scurll defend his recently won Youth Championship against the son of a Dragon, Ricky Steamboat Jr.

There was some decent action in the contest as it went back and forth, but the Youth Championship is the prestigious of all the title in PSW and as a result some of the crowd aren’t too interested in it. Scurll made a successful though difficult defence of his title in 8:59 by submission. Marty Scurll makes defence number 2 of his PSW Youth Championship title. 52

Ricky Steamboat Jr is improving in technical skills.

http://i.imgur.com/9OcIGLW.jpg

Keiji Sakoda is in the backstage interview area. He says he won the Crowning Glory Series because he is the toughest wrestler in PSW and he continues by saying he will win the PSW World Championship tonight because he is the toughest wrestler in PSW. 45

’Bad Ass’ Drew McIntyre v ‘Thrill Seeker’ Matt Sydal

Brawn versus speed in our third match of the night and it was one that perhaps didn’t deliver quite as much as expected. Both McIntyre and Sydal are capable of putting on some high quality matches but for some reason it didn’t quite happen here. Speed beat brawn in the end as Matt Sydal defeated Drew McIntyre in 13:12 by pinfall. 57

Matt Sydal has changed to a Thrill Seeker gimmick, rated 63.

PSW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Amazing Kong (champion, with Adam Sandler) v Joanie Laurer

This one has been bubbling for about three months when it was revealed that not only is Adam Sandler the current boyfriend of Amazing Kong, but he was also a former boyfriend of Joanie Laurer. Tensions have always been simmering at best and when Joanie Laurer won the Crowning Glory Women’s Series to earn this title match, things began to boil over and the two started to get physical on Superstars of Wrestling.

This was always going to be a physical match between two of the biggest and most powerful women in the business. What was perhaps a little surprising was that the match lasted nearly twelve minutes as both women unleased the heavy artillery on each other.

Ultimately it was Laurer who kept up her unbeaten start in PSW and took the belt in the process in 11:39 by pinfall with a Powerbomb. Joanie Laurer wins the PSW Women's Championship title. 63

Adam Sandler did good work at ringside.

Joanie Laurer has won her first 6 matches.

Amazing Kong’s win streak ends at 11.

http://i.imgur.com/Szxss6b.jpg

Cade Thesz is now in the backstage interview area. He says Keiji Sakoda may be tough, but that he (Thesz) is the champion, is an Outlaw and has others watching his back. Thesz says he will remain champion for a long time to come. 71

http://i.imgur.com/J27bmSW.jpg v http://i.imgur.com/uwYtaTk.jpg

AJ Styles v Eddie Kingston

Styles was the dominant champion in the fledging days of PSW when he held the then South Eastern Championship for over a year. He has held it three times in total but the last time was three and a half years ago. He’s also looking very stale in the ring now and has been passed in the PSW hierarchy by a number of other wrestlers.

Kingston on the other hand recently lost the Youth Championship having held it for seven months and is very much on the rise.

This should have led to an intriguing match, but it transpired to be a little tepid and boring. Styles won it in 14:25 by pinfall with a Styles Clash but he looks a shadow of what he was, despite his Hall of Fame induction later in the night. Maybe that will be the catalyst to rejuvenate his PSW career. 54

AJ Styles looks dreadfully stale.

Eddie Kingston is improving in performance skills.

PSW TV TITLE

‘The Follower’ T. J. Perkins (champion, with Raven) v ‘The Outlaw’ Roderick Strong (with Eddie Guerrero)

It seemed like it was only going to be a matter of time before there was a significant clash between Raven’s Salvation and Eddie Guerrero’s Outlaws. Sure enough it’s happening with this TV Title match and also on Superstars of Wrestling in the ongoing election for a General Manager.

Matters in the ring were dealt with in just over a quarter of an hour in a match that saw some excitement come back into the show. Perkins got the better of his challenger despite a sub par performace, a two time TV champion who holds the record for the most defences of the title, in 15:19 by submission. T.J. Perkins makes defence number 7 of his PSW TV Title. Only 19 more defences for Perkins to beat Strong’s record! 61

T. J. Perkins was really off his game.

Roderick Strong is improving in rumble skills.

T. J. Perkins has won his last 9 matches.

http://i.imgur.com/tdjGkME.jpg

Adam Sandler walks back out to the ring and cuts a promo on his election campaign, promising entertainment, superstars and excitement when he becomes General Manager of Superstars of Wrestling. 87

Adam Sandler improvised well.

’The Perfectionist’ Jimmy Yang v ‘Highlight Reel’ Rob Van Dam

The excitement levels finally picked up in a great contest between two former PSW World champions.

Action was fast paced and aerial as Yang and Van Dam went back and forth on the mat and in the air. It was nip and tuck as to who was going to win and it was the ‘Highlight Reel’ who took the spoils in 18:40 by pinfall with a Frog Splash. 75

http://i.imgur.com/9QWHGw0.jpg v http://i.imgur.com/O1r21q7.jpg

’Grand Slam’ Kevin Steen v Randy Orton

Another match pitting together two former World champions and another great match. Steen is the only man in PSW to have held all four championships and it’s over three years since Randy Orton was World champion. It wasn’t too much of a surprise that it was Steen who had his arm raised by the referee in 20:42 by submission with a Crossface. 77

Kevin Steen is improving in flying skills.

The stage has been decorated with PSW Hall of Fame regalia. Potter is on the stage and he is delighted to announce that tonight sees the first inductee in the brand new PSW Hall of Fame. Potter introduces Chris Jericho to the stage in introduce the inductee.

Jericho enters to his music and talks about AJ Styles’ PSW career. Styles has been here since day one, he has had some of the most exciting matches in PSW against me, he has tagged with me and he is a three time World champion, World Tag Team champion, three time Crowning Glory Series winner, Lethal winner and Grappler’s League winner. He is the one… the only… AJ Styles…

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/W5JjVjRp11g" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

AJ walks onto the stage. He thanks his family, the PSW family and his trainer for making his career possible. Most of all, he thanks the fans for without them, PSW would still be putting on shows in high school gyms and parking lots, if at all. The crowd cheers.

Jericho hands AJ Styles a plaque that is mounted on a mahogany block and reads…

AJ STYLES

2011 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

The crowd pop huge as the pair leave the stage. 52

Chris Jericho looked good.

PSW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Outlaws (champions, with Eddie Guerrero) v Chicago’s Finest

It’s well known that these two teams just don’t get along at all, escalated by The Outlaws gang attacks on their challengers tonight. This match had everything – fast paced action, mat wrestling and anger fuelled brawling.

The match was high in quality and the champions scored a number of near falls and looked like retaining their titles. It wasn’t to be for them on this night though, when Chicago’s Finest grabbed the gold again in 23:53 when Colt Cabana defeated Amazing Red by pinfall with a Colt 45. Chicago's Finest win the PSW World Tag Team Championship titles and become the first three time champions. 81

CM Punk is dreadfully stale.

Chicago’s Finest have won their last 5 matches.

The Outlaws’ win streak ends at 9.

http://i.imgur.com/yjx5RFn.jpg v http://i.imgur.com/ILiAcXw.jpg

’The Greatest Champion’ Chris Jericho v ‘The Follower’ John Cena (with Raven)

No less than the third match tonight to see two former World champions fight each other and in a note for stat fans there are twelve former World champions still active in PSW.

This was another great match between former champions, in fact there has been very little to choose between the three of them. Jericho won quite a long match which saw Cena seemingly refuse to be defeated until he eventually passed out in 24:32 to the Lion Tamer. 77

Cena and Raven have great chemistry.

PSW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

‘The Outlaw’ Cade Thesz (champion, with Eddie Guerrero) v Keiji Sakoda

The champion – an Outlaw who plays under their own rules. Having left under a bit of a cloud, he has come back, has been undefeated since and has been on a meteoric rise in doing so.

The challenger – A loner who prefers to let his wrestling do the talking for him. He has been on a streak himself having won his last 15 matches on the way to winning the Crowning Glory Series.

Something has to give.

For over half an hour it didn’t. Thesz has matured from a kid who held little respect for anybody to one of the top guys in PSW and has deserved become and kept the World Championship. Here he took Sakoda’s tough and resilient style and adapted to it to alter his own more rounded offence into one that countered or avoided a lot of his challenger’s striking. For much of the match it looked like it was going to work and Thesz was going to keep the title.

That was until Sakoda started to focus more on mat wrestling and started to work on Thesz’s right leg. This change of strategy by the challenger was the defining moment. With Thesz’s leg in a worsening state he no longer had mobility. Sakoda was able to land more strikes and he won the title in 37:13 by submission with a Half Boston Crab on Thesz’s right leg. Keiji Sakoda wins the PSW World Championship title and celebrates in the middle of the ring. Streamers shoot down from the rafters as Thesz is seen hobbling away with Eddie Guerrero, a look of sheer disappointment on their faces. The crowd are chanting SAKODA, SAKODA, SAKODA as Crowning Glory XI comes to an end. 82 – match of the night

Keiji Sakoda has won his last 16 matches.

Cade Thesz’s winning streak ends at 18.

Cade Thesz is in the ring to start the show, demanding he gets his World Championship rematch next month at Code of Honor and saying it is bull shit that Rob Van Dam gets a title match tonight. Keiji Sakoda walks on to the stage, and says that after he has beaten RVD tonight, he will give Thesz his rematch at the next pay per view. Thesz says he is glad that Sakoda has “done the right thing”, but asks what happens to his rematch if RVD wins tonight? Sakoda doesn’t like this, but is prevented from getting to the ring by arena security. 66

Backstage and Eddie Guerrero is leading a vicious backstage assault on the new World Tag Team champions Chicago’s Finest. The champions are left in a bad way when The Outlaws eventually walk away. 44

Jericho agrees but tells Sandler it is what it is and they need to concentrate and finding the best way to make sure Sandler wins the election so he can attract stars and get ratings. Sandler nods in reluctance. 68
