PSW YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

Eddie Kingston (champion) v Joe Hennig

A good opening match as the man who gave up the Youth Championship to challenge for the Continental Championship back at Choice of the New Generation tries to win back the title from the man who won the vacant belt. Kingston is establishing himself as a decent champion and his reign continued as he defeated Hennig in 10:43 by submission. Eddie Kingston makes defence number 3 of his PSW Youth Championship title. 54

Eddie Kingston is improving in performance skills.

Eddie Kingston has won his last 6 matches.

Kevin Steen is in the backstage interview area. ‘Grand Slam’ says he is hurting from the beating The Outlaws gave him on Monday night and he may be battered, he may be bruised, but he’s even more determined to kick Cade Thesz’s ass tonight and keep his Continental Championship. 49

Desperate Measures v Havana Pitbulls

A good tag team match. Desperate Measures were champions for around six months but have very much lost their win since then while Havana Pitbulls have been knocking on the door of winning the belts but never quite pulling it off. The Pitbulls took this one to remain on the fringes of the championship in 9:16 when Rocky Romero defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri by pinfall. 61

Ricky Reyes has switched to a Highlight Reel gimmick, rated 58.

Aaron Stevens is improving in technical skills.

SGT SLAUGHTER MEMORIAL BATTLE ROYAL

Air Paris, Alex Wright, Brian Kendrick, Caprice Coleman, ‘The Informer’ Chris Hero, ‘Bad Ass’ Drew McIntyre, ‘The Dude’ Eddie Colon, Great Sasuke, James Storm, Kid Kash, Lance Storm, Mike Quackenbush, Nate Nickerson, Paul London, Petey Williams, Reckless Youth, Ricky Steamboat Jr, ‘Highlight Reel’ Rob Van Dam, Stu Sanders and Super Dragon

Quite a wide range of wrestlers in the second Sgt Slaughter Memorial Battle Royal. Quick eliminations included Eddie Colon and James Storm before other wrestlers were eliminated at fairly regular intervals until we were left with a final four of Chris Hero, Drew McIntyre, Great Sasuke and Rob Van Dam. McIntyre eliminated Hero by booting him over the top rope. Van Dam then spin kicked McIntyre out, giving him his fourth elimination, the most in the match. This left RVD battling Great Sasuke which they did for a couple of minutes before Sasuke clotheslined RVD out in 15:09 to win after Randy Orton had done so last year. 72

Brian Kendrick is looking a little stale.

Eddie Colon has switched to a Dude gimmick, rated 57.

Mike Quackenbush is improving in technical skills.

Stu Sanders is improving in technical skills.

Cade Thesz is backstage alone in the interview area. He cackles. He says he sees Kevin Steen is hurt, he’s going to target the champion’s weak spots and take the title tonight. 59

PSW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Amazing Kong (champion) v Nora Greenwald

The women’s division has been slowly growing and rising in popularity in PSW, with some fans wanting their inclusion on Superstars of Wrestling and not being confined to Showcase and a title match on each pay per view. Nora Greenwald has been the dominant competitor with her two title reigns spanning one calendar year in total. Beth Phoenix eventually took the title off her in her second reign, with Kong defeating Phoenix and Nikita in a three way Lethal.

This was a decent match and showed both the variety and the development seen in PSW’s women’s division. Kong ended up overpowering her much smaller opponent and took the win in 11:41 by submission courtesy of a suffocating Bear Hug. Amazing Kong makes defence number 2 of her PSW Women's Championship title. 56

Amazing Kong has won her last 6 matches.

PSW TV TITLE

Austin Aries (champion) v Marty Scurll

IA great match and one that exceeded many expectations. Aries took the TV Title from Scurll recently on Superstars of Wrestling in a decent contest, and this was the rematch.

The result was the same though Scurll got a few near falls as he nearly took the title back from Aries. It wasn’t to be for the Englishman who’s stock in PSW has risen significantly in recent week. Aries’ victory came in 12:57 by pinfall with a 450 Splash. Austin Aries makes defence number 3 of his PSW TV Title. 75

Potter gets in the ring. The PSW Owner asks AJ Styles to come and join him in the ring. AJ Styles makes his way out, looking a little confused as to what is going on. Potter says that AJ Styles has been here since day one, he is a three time, longest reign and spent the longest time as the Continental champion. He has held the Continental Tag Team Championship. He is a three time Crowning Glory Series winner and has won the Lethal battle royal. Potter finishes by saying he takes great pleasure in announcing that AJ Styles will be the first ever inductee into the PSW Hall of Fame at Crowning Glory XI. AJ Styles is delighted and hugs Potter as the crowd cheer their approval. 47

GRAPPLER’S LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION

Colt Cabana (3-0-2) v Keiji Sakoda (5-0-1)

Some great action again as one of Chicago’s Finest takes on the tough Japanese American in a must win Grappler’s League match for Cabana if he wants to qualify for the Crowning Glory Series while a win for Sakoda will all but assure his promotion to the Premier Division.

Sakoda triumphed and with a match with relegation candidate Aaron Stevens plus a walkover against the departed Jeff Jarrett his promotion is pretty much guaranteed. He beat Cabana in 13:05 by submission. 70

Keiji Sakoda has won his last 7 matches.

PSW CONTINENTAL TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

To Kijar, With Love (champions) v The Outlaws (Amazing Red & Christopher Daniels, with BG James)

To Kijar, With Love have not been on the same page recently, ever since T. J. Perkins accused Matt Sydal of persuading him not to enter Lethal so they could win the Continental Tag Team Championship. Things got to a head so much that Director of Operations Adam Sandler made the champions fight each other two weeks ago on Superstars of Wrestling “for ratings” though that ended when The Outlaws attacked them both. The Outlaws attacked the champions again backstage six days ago.

This seemed to have rekindled the friendship and teamwork in the tag team champions, as despite being hurt they took the battle to the challengers in the early going and indeed were in control of a lot of the match. That was until things took a backstabbing, though probably not too surprising twist…

Matt Sydal had Amazing Red primed to finish him off, only for T. J. Perkins to enter the ring and attack his partner from behind. He rolled out to ringside and grabbed the title belts. Matt Sydal got up and berated his partner who had got up on the apron. Perkins threw the title belts at Sydal and left. Meanwhile, Red had tagged in Christopher Daniels, who made fairly short work of the shocked and now short handed champion remaining in the ring, ‘earning’ the win in 14:56 by pinfall with a Last Rites. The Outlaws win the PSW Continental Tag Team Championship titles. 69

Backstage and we see Chris Jericho with the man who will be the first ever PSW Hall of Famer, AJ Styles. Jericho says he is delighted for AJ, but tonight the focus must be stopping the selfish, biased reign of the Director of Operations Adam Sandler. Jericho asks AJ if he’s ready, and AJ replies “more than ever”. Jericho smiles. 54

GRAPPLER’S LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

CM Punk (3-1-2) v ‘The Perfectionist’ Jimmy Yang (5-1-1)

There was some great action in this match up, though it under delivered as a whole and as a result many were a little disappointed by it.

Yang won the match in 17:44 by pinfall with a Michinoku Driver II and in doing so secured his qualification for the Crowning Glory Series with a match to spare. Punk’s defeated means while he is still in the final qualifying spot he is now looking over his shoulder at Christopher Daniels and Rob Van Dam who with a match in hand can catch Punk… but they meet in that match tomorrow night on Superstars of Wrestling. 68

A lack of psychology meant the match drifted a little.

Jimmy Yang is improving in performance skills.

PSW CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

‘Grand Slam’ Kevin Steen (champion) v ‘The Outlaw’ Cade Thesz (with BG James)

A great match, easily the standout match of the show. Steen is hurt from The Outlaws attack six nights ago but he fought with the heart of a lion, like a wounded lion, fighting until he could fight no more. Thesz on the other hand was picking his shots, targetting Steen’s ribs and back which were the areas hurt most in the gang attack.

After about eighteen minutes, Steen managed to hit a Steenalizer. However, his body was hurting so badly, he was slow in making the cover which gave Thesz just enough time to recover enough to get his shoulder up just as the referee’s hand was about to strike the match for three. He then tried again, but Thesz was able to fight out of the attempt and this slowly led to the end of Steen’s fairly brief but impressive title reign, as Thesz wins the big one in 21:55 by pinfall. Cade Thesz wins the PSW Continental Championship title. 88 – match of the night

Steen and Thesz have great chemistry and it showed in their performances.

Cade Thesz has won his last 11 matches.

Kevin Steen’s win streak ends at 13.

Adam Sandler is behind the curtain with Randy Orton and Roderick Strong. He says tonight is about sticking it to Potter and his stupid company. He says stay with me and you’ll be a big part of something big. Sandler can take PSW to the top. Potter can’t. Orton and Strong look hyped. 86

FOR OPERATIONAL CONTROL OF POTTER SPORT WRESTLING

AJ Styles & ‘The Greatest Champion’ Chris Jericho (with Potter) v Randy Orton & ‘The Outlaw’ Roderick Strong (with Adam Sandler & BG James)

A huge night for the future of PSW and perhaps where the company ends up going for the next ten years. Adam Sandler has been running the show literally for a few months now and while he does not have the respect for the wrestlers or the business and shows bias to his favourites, PSW has been growing to greater heights than ever before as more and more people tune in on TV every week and pay per view every month. Sandler’s lack of respect has led to Chris Jericho in particular taking a stand for which he has suffered a number of brutal beatings courtesy of The Outlaws on Sandler’s behalf. With the other three quarters of The Outlaws all winning titles tonight, Roderick Strong teams with Randy Orton to take on Y2AJ for control of the company.

As a match it was decent and had quality. As a main event for the second biggest show of the year and the tenth birthday of PSW, it was disappointing. And with Roderick Strong looking like the weak link in the match, there was always going to be one team more likely to win than the other. And that is exactly what happened when Y2AJ took the spoils in 24:24 when AJ Styles defeated Roderick Strong by pinfall with a Styles Clash. 72

Roderick Strong is improving in rumble skills.

Following the match, Potter raises the arms of AJ Styles and Chris Jericho in celebration as Adam Sandler shouts “NO” repeatedly at ringside. 58

Show rating: B- 75

PSW has increased in popularity in 19 regions.

Attendance: 15,148 (seventh highest in PSW history)

Buy rate: 1.27, approximately 63,500 buys (new PSW record)

Profit: $377,933 (new PSW record)

Austin Creed, Caprice Coleman, Chris Hero and Reckless Youth passed random drug tests.

WRITER’S NOTES

I went with the wrong option for the main event.

John Cena should have been Randy Orton’s partner, but is out with a broken arm. I nearly went with Rob Van Dam as his replacement, but he had already announced his entry into the Sgt Slaughter Memorial Battle Royal.

We start in the ring with a beaming Chris Jericho. He says he is delighted he and AJ Styles got rid of Adam Sandler as Director of Operations and PSW can return to being the best competitive wrestling company there is today. Jericho says he can also refocus his attention on ultimately getting back the Continental Championship and he can do so by winning Top of the World to become the number one contender for Championship Fight Night. 51

In a pre recorded segment from last night, we are in a bar in down town Richmond. We see the new Continental champion Cade Thesz, the new Continental Tag Team champions Amazing Red and Christopher Daniels all celebrating with Roderick Strong. The Outlaws are all celebrating their newly won titles when…

Eddie Guerrero arrives with a round of tequilas. He puts them on the table and gives one to each Outlaw. He says BG James has gone and I now lead the gang. The other Outlaws are appreciative of the drink but confused as to what is going on. Another round of drinks arrive and the Outlaws get merrier. 71

Adam Sandler strides out to the ring, a face like thunder. He shouts “NO” repeatedly before quieting down by saying PSW suck, Chris Jericho and AJ Styles suck and wrestling sucks before leaving. Somebody shouting no repeatedly is never going to catch on. 82

Kevin Steen comes out to the ring and calls out Cade Thesz. Steen tells Thesz he wants his contractual rematch at Top of the World and this time he wants Thesz to fight like a man. He wants it one on one, no sneak attacks before hand, both men fight the best they can. Thesz has little choice but to accept the match, though you wonder how sincere he is when he agrees to a fair fight. 56
