DOTM Nominations - July 2016 [NEW] [Under New Managament]

Recommended Posts

I would like to thank angeldelayette and Anderz who wished me good luck and ultimately gave me permission to take the reigns. I’ve always been passionate about the Diaries and the DOTM [being a former winner ;-), just that once, in 2011]. I have been in talks the past few weeks about bringing back the DOTM, so i'm more than excited to announce its return.

I hope the new format is a positive step back to the “old way” of doing things, while providing something a little new. Hopefully the Trophies will also give everyone that feel of a little more competition to get better and collect more “Bragging rights” than their rivals. Also i hope the new Legend tier helps to encourage the newer Diary writers who feel they are often overshadowed by the more experienced writers. Now untill they are a 5 times winner, they don't have to worry about competing with the “Big Dogs”. This helps to do away with the former system of “New Diary of the Month”Another thing is the addition of the back to back winner’s being allowed. Now with a two tier system, i think it makes more sense not to block a writer from taking part in a month's voting, especially if they are the best diary that month. It only takes away from the winners bragging rights, if they can't compete with the best.

I have spent some time discussing these ideas with gds members and writers, so I hope this is what the masses are looking for.

Thanks for reading and if anyone has any suggestions, tips or complaints, feel free to Inbox me. Anyway please feel free to begin reading below and cast your Nominations

Welcome to the Brand New "Diary of the Month" Awards.

July’s Diary of the Month

Diary Period: July 1st - July 31st (nominations end July 31st at Midnight)

(Voting Begins on August 1st)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nomination System

The way in which you now Nominate and Vote has been changed. You can now nominate up to 3 Entries per Category. So in total that’s up to 24 Nominations a month. You don't have to put forward any more than 1 nomination, if you chose to add more, that's up to you. Also you don't have to have a nomination for every category. If you only want to vote for a diary and not an Event etc… you don't have to.

You can vote for diaries using any mod or timeframe, as long as they meet the criteria below, your vote will count.

  • DOTM needs 2 or more nominations to be put up for the voting section. In case of a low turn out, 1 nomination will be allowed.
  • Storyline, Worker, Event and Champions OTM only need 1 nomination to make it to the voting section.

Criteria:

  • You Can Nominate your own Diary/Storyline/Worker/Event/Champion.
  • You CANNOT Vote for your own Diary/Storyline/Worker/Event/Champion.
  • The diary must be posted in the Total Extreme Wrestling 2016 Dynasties forum. (No other diaries will be considered eligible).
  • The diary must have had one or more show’s posted within the current calendar month (as listed above).
  • Please vote using the full title of the diary as it appears in the thread listing. If it is not clear which diary you are voting for the vote may not count.
  • Please post a Link to the Diary you are Nominating
  • When nominating one of the new “Storyline, Worker, Event or Championship” of the month. Remember to name the Diary/Writer in the nomination. You do not need to nominate the Diary to be able to nominate one of the above.
  • The Previous month's winner is eligible to be nominated. The old rule of “Back to Back” winners being disallowed is no more. So winning May’s DOTM now means you can also win June’s DOTM.
  • If a category has less than 3 nominees to put forward for voting, that category will not be voted on in that month.
  • Once a nomination is official and placed below. There is no longer a need to Nominate the “Diary/Event/Worker” etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Togg,

I totally dig the new system. I think's its totally fair and comprehensive. Any chance you could elaborate on the "championship" of the month? Are we voting for a particular worker who is champion or a specific title based on perceived prestige?

Additionally, may I suggest a "match of the month"? I think this award could really celebrate a writer's ability to capture a really quality bout.

Thanks dude, I shall find a way to reword things better. But to clarify. Its "Champion" and not "Championship". So a worker who is a champion.

The idea of Match of the Month was brought up. It got overlooked, but im more than happy to Add it to the list if people want it :)

Nice system, however you say "Storyline, Worker, Event and Champions OTM only need one nomination to make it to the voting section." and then "If a category has less than 3 nominees, that category will not be voted on in that month." Could you explain?

Again thanks dude, and i will try to word things a little better. But for now...

to enter the DOTM and LDOTM a Diary needs 2 nominations, If there are not 3 or more Diarys qualifying (getting more than 2 nominations each). That category wont run.

Storyline, Worker, Event and Champions OTM... Only need 1 nomination to be entered into the Category, If there are not 3 or more "Storylines etc" qualifying. That category wont run.

Hope that helps :D

"The Previous month's winner is eligible to be nominated. The old rule of “Back to Back” winners being disallowed is no more. So winning May’s DOTM now means you can also win June’s DOTM."

Going to argue this point. I understand the reasoning behind saying "You can go on a streak of winning DOTM" but at the same point in time, it's a very demoralising thing to see the same people win month after month. DOTM is, at its core, a popularity contest. If you're not a popular writer, you don't stand a chance if the same 3/4 names are always eligible to win. It then gets to the point where diaries with cracking promise give up because the writers go on to think "Well, I'm clearly not good enough for the monthly vote, so what's the point?".

DOTM allows silent feedback to blossom. Rather than have someone post in a diary that they like the work etc., you get people throwing a vote on a diary and moving on and it's only until the writer [it's happened to me in my WILD youth] notices it.

Also going to argue "Stream/Twitch/Youtube diarys are not eligable. If there is a call for them to be included, this might be revised."

They're very much as big a part of TEW diaries as written works. It's entirely unfair to dismiss them. If the person doing the uploading is putting in the effort, why be unnecessarily punished for it by not being eligible to get a bit of recognition?

I made sure they were voted for using an outside poll... just so it wasnt a clusterf*** of DOTM voting threads.</p>

<p>I definitely think that Video dynasties should get their own award, as long as enough are posted here to justify the award. I think it's a tougher medium - folks have to record, edit AND write the shows to try to bring in the views. They should have a shot for some love.</p><p> </p><p>

I also think there's too many awards here - story/worker/champ/Event could all be lumped together as a "moment of the month" award or something similar to that. Plus, do I really want to write down a diary name, author, and a link for 4 more awards?</p><p> </p><p>

The answer - Daily Double</p>

Should FIFA stop giving awards to Messi and Ronaldo and/or put them in different categories? Don't get me wrong, i do understand what you are saying and many times votes will be cast due to popularity rather than quality, but the distinction between LDOTM and DOTM will certainly help. If the numbers need to be adjusted for more or less than 5, then i'm sure it can also be made.</p><p> </p><p> But it wouldn't also be fair if a diary could not win back to back and/or repeatedly while it is indeed the best, just for others to win. It may be a popularity contest, but if one wins 456 prizes on a row it means one is doing something well. Trying to end such a streak could also be a motivation. One should vote for who deserves to win for the right reasons and not just because he/she was won or not won enough times.</p><p> </p><p> To me it is unfair to impose quotas on awards, but that's just me. Not trying to flame or anything, just giving my 2 cents. At the end of the day though, one's motivation to keep writing should not be centered around awards, as I see it. Maybe we should at least try the new system before changing it.</p>

But it wouldn't also be fair if a diary could not win back to back and/or repeatedly while it is indeed the best, just for others to win. It may be a popularity contest, but if one wins 456 prizes on a row it means one is doing something well. Trying to end such a streak could also be a motivation. One should vote for who deserves to win for the right reasons and not just because he/she was won or not won enough times.

The company you write can be the difference between zero predictions and twenty predictions. I point to The Lloyd's WWE diaries as a classic example. I mean no offence at all when I say that The Lloyd often got votes from newer members that only ever voted his diary, or other modern day real world WWE ones. That's perfectly fine because he was ineligible the month after winning and it always felt like no matter what company you were writing, you would always have a chance of competing at the very least. Togg is right in that that's changed now but there's no concrete reason the system needed to be changed. This is fixing something that, IMHO, wasn't broken in the first place.

I get where you're coming from. But, in the old format, it was cool just to nominated for the DOTM. I think just knowing that someone thought you deserved to be up there with the best was rewarding enough for me.

I couldn't agree more. It's one of the reasons I am against the Legendary awards because going up against the best diaries on the board and finishing second by just three points was entirely more rewarding than the one win I got when The Lloyd and Beejus' diaries weren't eligible for nomination. But if the secondary and Legendary awards work for other people then I suppose they're a positive.

My major worry here is that there aren't enough quality diaries to sustain what is now four main votes. We have Real World and Fictional, plus Legendary votes. Long-term, there isn't a chance that all four votes will be highly competitive month in, month out. Are there not just three eligible diaries for Legendary C-Verse? Are there any even eligible for Legendary Real World at the moment? This is something I would have bought up had I been involved in the discussions for this. Which brings me to the next point: why wasn't there an open discussion on the forum about these awards? They rely on community participation, the least you could have done is asked the board at large what they thought before proceeding.

<p>In the last incarnation we had 5 different winners across the 6 months it ran for.. Lloyd won back to back.</p><p> </p><p>

Taking Lloyd as an example he ranked:</p><p>

20th - 1st - 1st - 7th - 5th - 9th</p><p> </p><p>

So that shows at least some level of variability at least.</p><p> </p><p>

Not sure whether this helps either side of the argument but I just present you with the facts <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
