WCW: Dangerous Territory

Jericho & Storm - (though I would run a concept where Jericho gets selected while Storm doesn't and have them keep teaming until Flair and Anderson tell Jericho to chose them or Storm.)

That's not a bad call, I did something similar with a 2001 game, had Sean O'Haire (who was teaming with Chuck Palumbo) and Mark Jindrak (who was teaming with Shawn Stasiak) from the Natural Born Thrillers get offered the final two spots in the Horsemen.....dissension aplenty.

Oh and for the record, Lance Storm wound up in that incarnation of the Horsemen too.....Flair, Storm, O'Haire and Jindrak, with Arn as the manager/enforcer.

Only real problem I see with it is that I imagine the Horsemen are going to be Faces heading into a feud with the Dangerous Alliance, and Jericho turning on Storm is kinda a dick move, but then I guess he and Sunny had already begun distancing themselves from Lance a little bit not so long back.....although I guess you could have them finally see Lance's potential, have them offer him the spot, then Lance turns on them, maybe even joining the DA, but then I don't know who the fourth Horseman would be from that list

First things first - great starrcade, definitely some stuff I didn’t see coming. Biggest thing is Pillman going over - an interesting new wedge in the dangerous alliance build. Vader losing too - but I’ll justify any way to get cactus being taken more seriously in wcw.

Now with the horsemen question - a couple men jump out immediately. Harlem heat would be fun, but that would mean we get “Stevie Ray, horseman” - no go. Double j is also interesting, but that happened already. Jerry lynn and Richards seem too raw (speaking of that, is Ric getting a call from ol vinnie mac about that show?). I 100% support Ahmed eating reefs with the horsemen, but that probably means that that’s a bad idea.

Jericho, storm, and regal seem like good choices, but breaking up Jericho and storm is a great idea. You could two ways - maybe Jericho is too stuck to sunny, and storm splits? Maybe naitch tells sunny to tag along, and they leave storm in the dust. Either way, regal feuds with the man left out, and you’ve got a fun undercard feud.

Overall, I’m in the camp that the Horsemen should be the neutral party between the alliance and wcw, so sticking people in who seem like heels works great with me.

Steve Williams and Sean Morley for me.

Morley can easily be marketed as the new generation, he'd be young, a heartthrob and should still be around a heavyweight as well in size so could use that as an advantage. Face he'd be great as a young upstart, heel he could already come in cocky or eventually turn on Flair as he wants to be the man.

Williams is tough as old boots. If it goes down the face route you can easily play it as Flair wanting to give someone a chance at the big time who's long deserved it and just wants to fight people, he's got the heart of a horseman. If they go heel well he just wants to fight people and while he may never be "The Enforcer" having a technically superior worker who likes to fight he'd be a great mid card foil for some of the up and coming faces, he'd be great against Dustin for example.

Following other responses, I have to say that Arn Anderson, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair and William Regal would be a pretty good Four Horsemen lineup. Tammy Sytch can definitely be a valet ala Precious, and I can see some comedy with here and William Regal.

That does leave Lance Storm on his own though, and possibly in need of a new tag partner rather than go solo just yet. Maybe one of the Canucks listed can pop up as a new friend?

This is really interesting. I know it goes against everything but I think Doc would have made a great member of the Horsemen. Arn can tag with just about anyone so the pairing with the charismatic Jericho would be entertaining. And you could easily see either of them getting over enough to eventually split from the group to feud against them.

One name I would have like to have seen but not sure where he is in the current period would be Gordy. Before his tragic RL issue, he was a tremendous big man although in 93 he would be 32. I’ve been MIA to the story for awhile so I might have missed something about him in the diary.

I've been reading this diary for the last month plus to catch up. I had no idea if it was still running and was scared to look -- it made me so happy to see that it was, and not just that, I almost perfectly caught up with the biggest show yet. This is the first diary I've ever read in this detail and you've won me over -- I loved this. And now, after all this time, I can finally ask my burning question --

Do you actually give cash bonuses to the TV champs in game, or is it all kayfabed?

And my first vote is for the Horsemen! I think Jericho and Storm easily make the most sense -- they're basically the younger version of Flair and Arn themselves. It could be fun seeing Flair naturally drawn more to mentoring the brash and cocky Jericho, while Arn is drawn to the serious wrestling machine Storm. I'm only scared that they seemed to be splitting before this -- don't make me believe and then give me Curt Hennig's Horsemen run with a quick Jericho heel turn.

Past them, my vote would be from Jerry Lynn, Mike Awesome, and Sean Morely. They could all be fun but I think Jericho and Storm are too obvious and perfect not to go with.

<p>I really should give bonuses for TV title defences - but it's pure kayfabe. Good to have you with us, Spectre!</p><p> </p><p>

The Horsemen voting is going well, and there does seem to be a consensus forming, but please do vote if you haven't done already. Flair and Anderson's scouting will run for a while - Ric and Flair have plenty of matches ahead of them.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Yeah, looking at the available list, I gotta go with The Thrillseekers. I’m of the belief that you shouldn’t split a team unless necessary, and there’s strong upside in the two of them joining. You didn’t split the Calgary Connection, and I think the Thrillseekers can be of similar use to you in this regard.

Michael Hayes won the right to challenge Randy Savage for the Television title in a battle royal before Starrcade went live. The Freebird gave his fellow veteran a tough test, but Savage seems determined to get the match with Steve Austin he’s called for – and eventually took Hayes down with the Macho Man Elbow from the top rope! Eric Bischoff was able to get some words from Cactus Jack and Ultimate Warrior when he found them backstage. Now, we’re not saying that we </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>absolutely</em></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> understood what the pair were saying, but it seems like they’ll be working together going forward!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Marcus Bagwell said that Owen Hart didn’t try at Starrcade in their match against Brian Pillman and Robert Gibson; Owen didn’t respond verbally, but put in plenty of effort when the pair faced off here, teaching Bagwell a technical lesson before scoring the win with a Missile Dropkick! (B+)</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Bret Hart was watching the match from backstage – is the Hitman feeling a degree of responsibility for Bagwell after recent events?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Steve Austin barged into the Diamond Exchange locker room to confront Shawn Michaels after the Rough Diamond eliminated him from the Battlebowl match. Michaels was unrepentant, and suggested Austin worry about Randy Savage – a suggestion that the Superstar blew off. We’d suggest that Austin reconsider that, if he asked us!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The fans were unsure how to respond to a match between the Stocks And Shares Express and the Diamond Mine, given that neither normally gets their support. Old affections for Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson seemed to resurface as they faced off against their much larger foes, but perhaps the fans’ dislike drove the United States tag champions onwards – that, or DDP’s roll of silver dollars, used to put Robert Gibson down for the count! (B-)</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

After the match the Diamond Mine and their manager demanded a rematch with Rhodes & Windham. In the Dangerous Alliance locker room, Rick Rude was intent on watching the World title match from Starrcade – apparently for the seventeenth time! Brian Pillman was more inclined to talk.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Thrilseekers were also reviewing their Starrcade performances, and Lance Storm seemed a little needled at Chris Jericho having made it so far, when he lost out in the Lethal Lottery!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sid Vicious seemed delighted to have got his hands on Terence Taylor, but the result of the match probably spoiled his mood quickly! Although the titanic Arkansan was overpowering Taylor, the match was terminated abruptly by the appearance of Bobby Eaton, who drilled Vicious with a low blow from behind to draw the DQ (B) and then helped Taylor beat down Vicious. </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Robert</em></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Eaton was then announced as the latest member of the York Foundation!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Scott Steiner had a huge chance to impress against Sting in the main event – but maybe not the one we thought he had! Unable to put the new World champion away, he lured Sting to the outside and hit him with a steel chair! With Sting down, Steiner continued his attack, with security rushing to the ring as the Steiner Animal left Sting lying in agony.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<p>Dustin Rhodes vs. <strong>Vinnie Vegas</strong></p><p>

<em>I can't believe I'm picking 1992 Vinnie Vegas to beat Dustin Rhodes, but here we are.....Dustin takes a loss, then Barry picks up a win on Hall later down the line to give him something to bitch about where Dustin is concerned</em></p><p> </p><p>

Beat The Champ:<strong> Randy Savage</strong> © vs. Joe Malenko – WCW Television Title</p><p>

<em>Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.....yeah, sorry Joe, it's not happening. The only way Randy is losing this title before cashing it in, is if Austin costs him the match.....not THIS match though</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Young Pistols and Michael Hayes</strong> © vs. Al Snow and Brutal K – WCW Six Man Titles</p><p>

<em>The Southern Boys win here, but I can't help but feel that the 6-man titles are somewhat redundant now with all the other titles you have</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Blanco & Konnan</strong> vs. The Lightning Express</p><p>

<em>Meh, I mean I guess......nope, I got nothing</em></p><p> </p><p>

Brian Armstrong vs. <strong>Shawn Michaels</strong></p><p>

<em>Oh you didn't know? Early DX non-withstanding, I actually read this as BRAD Armstrong, which would probably have actually been a solid match. Regardless, there ain't no Armstrong beating HBK....wait, TRD. I am curious to see where Austin/Michaels goes though</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Thrillseekers </strong>vs. The One Percenters</p><p>

<em>Still love the One Percenters name though</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Ah the old Corneal Laceration, Marty Jannetty just picked one of those up in my Royal Rumble. Is Warrior missing any ring time? Because Marty is out for two months</em></p>

I could spare him by giving him limited roles in tag matches, but that always seems to harm match ratings more than a minor injury. We have an incredible show for you tonight, including in our main event, ‘the Natural’ Dustin Rhodes taking on Vinnie Vegas – and I’m sure there’ll be no bias at all on the part of my broadcast colleague, ‘the American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Before we got to the main event, Randy Savage defended his Television title against Joe Malenko, who impressed in reaching the BattleBowl match at Starrcade. Malenko tried to lock Savage down and blunt his trademark aggressive offence, but the Macho Man soared from the top with a big elbow drop to secure the win. (B) “That’s two!” he reminded everyone after the match.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Chris Jericho also impressed at Starrcade, and if Lance Storm was less fortunate, the Thrillseekers as a unit were in fine form here on Main Event, putting their speed and agility to good use against the One Percenters before toppling them for the win when Jericho caught Ron Harris in a Boston Crab. (B) Afterwards the young Canadians called out the Diamond Mine and dared them to put the United States tag titles on the line – but got no response.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Shawn Michaels was another who put in an impressive showing at Starrcade, and he furthered his momentum with victory over young Brian Armstrong here. (B) Afterwards, he mused over chasing the United States title while Steve Austin is distracted with other matters but eventually decided to shelve the idea. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Michaels: </strong></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">For now.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Blanco & Konnan toppled the Lightning Express in tag team action. (B-) We wonder if the Mexican duo were upset at missing out on Starrcade? They’ve been quietly impressive of late.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The WCW Six Man titles were on the line as the Young Pistols and Michaels Hayes defended against Al Snow and Brutal K. The Japanese duo once again walked out of a match they were still contesting, leaving Snow exposed to a match-ending Missile Dropkick from Steve Armstrong, (B) Snow was unimpressed with his partners’ actions, to say the least!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Bischoff: </strong></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">Kojima and Kanemoto just don’t care!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In the night’s main event, Dustin Rhodes for once found himself facing down someone taller than him. Vinnie Vegas had the reach advantage, but was slower than Rhodes. The Natural sought to use that to his maximum advantage and seemed to have Vegas on the backfoot, but a timely distraction from Kimberly Page caught both Rhodes and the referee for just long enough for Vegas to roll Rhodes up from behind and, with a handful of trunks, get the pin! The Diamond Exchange celebrated in the ring as Rhodes argued with the official after the bell. (B+)</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And with that, 1992 is in the books – a year that saw us enter with Nikita Koloff at the helm, spend ten months under Rick Rude and close out the year with Sting on top for reign #2.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The United States title was with Arn Anderson until August, Sting had the belt for two months to give him some momentum as he regrouped for his Starrcade match, and Steve Austin took it off him at Halloween Havoc.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The World tag titles were with the Steiners as the year dawned, then Scott Steiner and Randy Savage when the WWF poached Rick. They lost it to the Calgary Connection in June and Pillman and Hart held the belts until Halloween Havoc, where they lost to Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham in the WCW match of the year (until Starrcade).</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The US tag belts were with the Calgary Connection for most of the first half of the year. They lost them to the Young Pistols in May, who held them until September when they were beaten by the Diamond Mine.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Six Man titles were with Eaton, Rhodes and Blanco at the start of the year. The York Foundation won the vacated belts (I think Eaton got injured?), lost them to the Diamond Exchange, who dropped them to Ric Flair and the Thrillseekers before winning them back. The Young Pistols and Michael Hayes won them in September and are the defending champions.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And then there’s the Television title – Larry Zbyszko was champion at the start of the year, in a sign of how far the company has come. Randy Savage was the 34th holder </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">of the year</span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> when he won it at Starrcade, and he’s still got it now. Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Dustin Rhodes and Vinnie Vegas managed five defences, while eleven holders lost in their first defence, including the last eight before Savage won.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Heh

Yep. I've changed his push to Personality to stop it happening again, but he's at A*/A/A for Microphone/Charisma/Colour so not too hard to understand the game's mistake!

> AJPW nearing collapse and refusing a buyout.

Please keep an eye on them and buy them out if it happens. AJPW would be the perfect way to set up a brand split in this version of WCW.

Their roster as of January '93 includes Akira Taue, Jumbo Tsuruta, Jun Akiyama, Mitsuhara Misawa, Stan Hansen, Steve Williams, Terry Gordy, Toshiaki Kawada... All Japan was just about to hit it's peak in real life at this time, from memory.

In the second half of '92 they ran 57 shows. 4 of them scored B/B-, while 53 shows scored B+ or higher. For all I grumble about our being overlooked, I imagine we were second in the PotY vote, but a 93% must watch rate is hard to top.

Anyway, for some reason I got to week 2's Main Event and it had the Clash set to run right after. That doesn't work and I didn't want to fudge the shows, so I'm having to rebook the whole week...

EDIT: Actually just Main Event. I was sure it was Monday it reset to, but that works for me.

The early 90s after SWS was a strange time for AJPW. Some of the best matches and stars in history but a paper thin undercard. In some ways it was the First Dark Age for AJPW and Baba really didn't enough to rebuild. Misawa was a lot more energetic in tackling company issues but by the time NOAH came around the issues had become foundational.

Seriously, look at the IRL gaijin that Baba brought in for the tag tourneys and look how many of them went anywhere

Starting with Dean Malenko, who followed in brother Joe’s footsteps in challenging Randy Savage for the Television title. The mat master – now reported to be up to 710 moves and counting – was able to slow Savage in the early going, but eventually fell to the Macho Elbow. (B)</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson were reviewing tapes of potential Horsemen. Of course, being Horsemen, they were being served champagne by a stunning French maid while they watched...</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Marcus Bagwell had one more shot at vengeance against Owen Hart and Brian Pillman as he teamed with his mentor Ricky Steamboat in tag action on Saturday Night. Pillman seemed to feel that he had better things to be doing with his time, but came up with the victory as he rolled up Bagwell with a handful of trunks for the win. (B) Afterwards, the York Foundation were spotted backstage welcoming their new member, Robert Eaton, and laughing at Steamboat and Bagwell’s defeat.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Cactus Jack, with the Ultimate Warrior in his corner, clashed with the super heavyweight Mr Hughes, who had Harley Race in his corner. It’s hard to imagine two more different cornermen – but then Cactus and Hughes are hardly birds of a feather! The wildman from Truth or Consequences had to match guile and frenzy against the power and weight of the stoic, suited Hughes, and eventually was successful with the Double Arm DDT – after taking a beating! (B) Afterwards the One Percenters tried to get vengeance for the Kingdom but were backed down by Cactus and Warrior – which has earned the Harris twins a tag match next week!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Lance Storm seemed excited to have a match with Steve Austin following Tammy’s efforts to schmooze with Commissioner Ventura... although a little put out when he learned it wasn’t for the United States title. Still, he put everything he had into the match and even survived the first Stun Gun by the skin of his teeth to keep fighting. But even with Tammy in his corner he couldn’t keep Austin at bay, and eventually took a second Stun Gun as Austin continued to build momentum. (B-)</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And Shawn Michaels, you’re on my list, son, and you’d better pray you stay near the bottom. Right now, I’ve got bigger fish to fry, but the second I don’t, I’ll pay you back for Starrcade!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Scott Steiner demolished preliminary competitor Mike Rapada © before being confronted by Sting, who wanted to know what Steiner’s issue with him last week. Before he could get an answer, though, Rick Rude blindsided Sting and beat him to the ground! Rude walked off with Sting wracked with pain unable to stand, and Steiner laughing in the ring.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Bret Hart was having a fine match with new York Foundation member Robert Eaton, and even seemed to have the edge – but the arrival of the Computerised Man of the 90s caused the referee to call for the bell as the two Foundation members double-teamed Hart. (B-) The arrival of Sid Vicious caused them to make for the hills – but Hart was less than delighted to be saved, tearing a strip off Vicious for getting involved when Hart believed he had things under control! Vicious seemed to be restraining himself from attacking Hart after that, but Hart didn’t notice as he left the ring in high dudgeon.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The night’s main event saw Barry Windham clashing with Vinnie Vegas in the second match of their teams’ series. Windham was, for once, out reached and outweighed by his opponent, but the Texan has never been short of tenacity. Diamond Dallas Page tried to get involved on his client’s behalf but the referee caught DDP in the act, and as the official chewed him out, Windham scored with a punt between Vegas’ legs – a move that will even bring a giant down in the world! Windham was able to score the win after that, rolling Vegas up as the referee turned back to the action. (B+) That wasn’t the end of affairs, though; Enraged by the loss, Page summoned the Diamond Studd to the ring and the partners beat Windham down until Dustin Rhodes tried to make the save – but he ran into a two-on-one beating of his own, as Windham could do nothing to help his young partner!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Vinnie Vegas pulled a tasteless rib backstage and brought down some heat on himself; It’s actually only Vegas’ second offence in 18 months, because we have the Kliq pretty well neutralised with all the good influences and positive relationships backstage. He gets a slap on the wrist and, while it makes his attitude worse, Diamond Studd, DDP and Sid Vicious are all happy afterwards. Diplomacy! ... Apparently bad attitudes are catching, though, as Barry Windham missed a pre-show meeting with a road agent. Windham’s also on his second strike, but this sort of thing is small beans compared to the hard drugs he got caught with last time, so a slap on the wrist it is – and his personality gets worse too, blast it ... But Diamond Studd was on song with some road stories, and helped ease the tension backstage</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Concerning the new Horseman I would love a Big Man Small man combo of Mike Awesome and Jerry Lynn, the can later branch out on their own. I don't know why but I think their looks and skill levels fit the Horseman.

World Championship Wrestling presents: Main Event

Sunday, Week 1 January 1993

Your commentators: Tony Schiavone, Eric Bischoff and Dusty Rhodes

In his fourth defence of the Television title, Randy Savage disposed of Tim Horner with the Macho Elbow. He’s getting closer to Steve Austin! (B)

Marcus Bagwell is sick of being the fall guy, and wants to start delivering on his potential. For a young talent with his looks, talent and Ricky Steamboat as a mentor, the sky may be the limit! Bagwell certainly impressed against the Malenkos, looking unstoppable at times as he tore into the brothers, before taking Joe down with a Fisherman’s Suplex for the win. (B-)

Ultimate Warrior ploughed through Pat Rose with a Running Splash. © He was succeeded in the ring by Scott Steiner who ignored suggestions that he was targeting Sting – or helping the Dangerous Alliance to do so.

Steiner:
All that matters is that the attention is on me. All of World Championship Wrestling is talking about Scott Steiner – and soon that will be all the world!

As part of his warmup for Barry Windham next Saturday night, the Diamond Studd teamed with Shawn Michaels to take on the Special Forces. The Diamond Exchange pair were victorious, although Firebreaker Chip and Todd Champion held out for longer than might be expected, all things considered. (B)

Ric Flair let it be known that auditions for new Horsemen were open – and Al Snow was the first candidate! Snow worked hard in the match, and Flair seemed impressed at times, but the Nature Boy eventually locked on the Figure Four Leglock for the win. (B)

Dusty:
I think Al Snow wanted to show he’s better than his match last week. No-one to walk out on him tonight!

In the night’s main event, Dustin Rhodes clashed with Diamond Dallas Page in a wild brawl. Page has been getting training from his Diamond Exchange colleagues, and is no stranger to the squared circle, but the Natural still seemed a little surprised at how well DDP held his own. And with the Diamond Exchange, of course, nothing is ever straightforward – the appearance of Vinnie Vegas distracted him and the referee, and Kimberly Page was on hand with the roll of silver dollars to give her husband the surprise victory! (B) Afterwards all the members of the Diamond Exchange seemed ready to jump Rhodes, but after last night Barry Windham was forewarned – and forearmed, as he raced to the ring with a pair of branding irons. The Texans managed to get some shots in on the four Diamond Exchange members, standing tall as their rivals retreated!

Schiavone:
Folks, don’t you dare miss it when WCW is back on your screens this Saturday night!

Show rating: B

Pee Wee Anderson showed up late for the third time. He got a stern warning, and nothing came of it ... Ric Flair passed on psychology tips to his protégé El Tigre Blanco, for only about the second time. This hasn’t worked out as well as I’d hoped, which is probably down to Flair being a bit of a twerp back in the early 1990s ... Owen Hart and the Diamond Studd have struck up a strong friendship ... Shawn Michaels suffered a hip pointer in his match. He’s out for a few days, but will be back for Saturday Night
