The Call</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

.....:::::Ring Ring:::::.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

.....:::::Ring Ring:::::.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

.....:::::Ring Ring:::::.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

.....:::::Click:::::.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<em>"............................"</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....hello?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"............................"</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....hello?.......what the hell sort of Mickey Mouse company....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....hello?.....my name......is Paul Heyman......"</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....I know who you are Paul, I called you....."</em></p><p> </p><p>

.....this was going to be one of THOSE sorts of conversations wasn't it.....</p><p> </p><p>

<em>".....you did indeed call me Sir, and if I could ask how you got this number? Who you are? And perhaps most importantly of all, why in the name of all that is holy are you calling me just nine hours into the New Year, and a mere four hours after I went to bed?....."</em></p><p> </p><p>

.....yeah.....definitely one of those sorts of conversation.....</p><p> </p><p>

....to be fair, I suppose I could have planned a better time and day to call, but I've always been one to act when the idea is still hot.....and this idea could be very hot.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....as you probably gathered, the gentleman on the receiving end of this phone call is named Paul Heyman, although you probably know him better by his stage name.....Paul E. Dangerously.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....as Paul E. Dangerously, Paul Heyman had great success in the early 90's as both a commentator and manager for World Championship Wrestling. In fact, his stable of clients (christened the Dangerous Alliance) is still, even today, heralded as one of the greatest groups assembled, and this is some five years after they disbanded.....not bad for a group that lasted barely a year.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....the group would perhaps have lasted longer, had Paul not fell afoul of then booker Bill Watts' cost cutting measures.....some alleged "anti-semitic" remarks, a law suit and a "contract dispute" later, means Paul E. Dangerously sailed off into the WCW sunset, before setting down anchor in Philadelphia and in Eastern Championship Wrestling. Heyman took the head booker role from Eddie Gilbert in late 1993 and he wasted no time in trying to step away from the old-school NWA feel that the company was employing at the time, instead deciding to partake in a very public screw-job.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....because following the finals of a tournament to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion, winner Shane Douglas threw down his newly won title, calling the NWA a dead promotion, before raising the ECW Title and proclaiming himself the new EXTREME Championship Wrestling World Champion.....and so a revolution was born.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....but I digress.....you don't want a history lesson, you want to know why I'm making the call.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....well here's the thing, see Paul wasn't happy with just being the head booker of ECW, he wanted ECW full stop.....so much so that he actually bought the promotion outright from then owner Todd Gordon back in 1995, and since then he's done a pretty good job carving a little niche out of the wrestling world with his own brand of hardcore revolution that's actually garnered somewhat of a cult following.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....I wanted to utilise some of that cult following.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....I explained to Paul who I was, but most importantly, what I wanted.....we (the WWF) had already helped ECW out a little bit by giving the Eliminators some mainstream exposure at the Survivor Series.....we'd even sent a few of our lesser known stars down there as well.....we wanted that to continue.....but in a more, extreme way if you will.....</p><p> </p><p>

<em>"......wait, so you want what exactly? You want ECW to basically be your little training facility? Your talent farm?......you want EC F###ing W to become the ECW(WF) lite? With all due respect.....actually, scrap that.....with NO f###ing respect, are you out of your tiny little mind mind?....."</em></p><p> </p><p>

.....like I said.....one of THOSE conversations.....</p><p> </p><p>

<em>".....we Sir, are ECW.....EXTREME Championship Wrestling.....we are changing the face of professional wrestling.....the outlaw promotion.....the revolution.....the red headed step child that no one wants, and doesn't care......we made our name by NOT being the World Wrestling Federation.....by NOT being World Championship Wrestling.....by being the very OPPOSITE of the mainstream......and you want us to just abandon and abolish our principles?.....our ideals?.....our pride?......exactly WHY would we do that?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....well.....for money obviously....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"............................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"............................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....how much money?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....lots of money....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"............................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"............................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....ok, I'm listening....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....I thought you might....."</em></p><p> </p><p>

.....he'd be stupid not too as well.....ECW are quite literally haemorrhaging money on a monthly basis.....last month alone they lost over 100 grand.....they've got roughly 400 grand in their bank account, which by my reckoning puts them in debt by May and quite possibly out of business by July/August.....the only way they're going to stay afloat is by upping their income, and since most tv stations wont touch them, and most Pay Per View carriers would rather pay the public NOT to watch possible ECW events, that's going to prove rather tricky.....</p><p> </p><p>

.....luckily I have a solution to that.....</p><p> </p><p>

<em>".....so you're going to pay all my bills?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....no, I'm going to pay all your monthly debts.....if you lose 100K next month, I'll pay you 100K.....you lose 70 thousand, I'll pay you 70 thousand.....you will not lose a penny during the course of this deal....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....but I won't MAKE anything during the course of this deal either....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....short term, no.....long term? Long term you're not losing any money.....you're getting some bigger drawing names AND some of the hottest prospects in the sport.....bigger drawing names means bigger crowds, more exposure and eventually, better Television and Pay Per View revenue.....and as an added bonus, I can guarantee that neither the WWF.......or WCW.....will raid your talent without giving you ample warning to prepare......"</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....well firstly, who says you COULD raid my 'talent', my guys are incredibly loyal.....and secondly, just how exactly are you planning on doing that? You and WCW are at war, they won't think twice about trying to sign a Shane Douglas or a Taz before you do....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

"......I could raid your talent in a heartbeat Paul.....do you really think Shane Douglas wouldn't jump at the chance to get back in the big leagues? With his ego? Money talks Paul......if it didn't then we wouldn't even be having this conversation in the first place.....the only guys loyal to you are the guys I don't even want......no offence to a Tommy Dreamer, or a Sandman, they work great for you in this environment, but in the WWF? Not a chance......and as for your second point, there is a War in professional wrestling you're right.....and WCW do need bodies.....I hear Vince Russo got a nice Christmas Bonus from Turner in the form of a brand new show.....WCW Thunder.....that's two more hours of television he's got to fill.....but he won't fill it with your guys.....because as Keyser Söze said, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world that he didn't exist"......</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

.....the professional wrestling audience believe that they are witnessing and participating in (by choosing with their remote controls) a war.....WWF vs. WCW.....WWF fans vs. WCW fans.....Vince McMahon and Ted Turner ARE at war.....but in reality.....Vince Russo and I, we have an understanding....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....so this 'war' is a work?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....no.....it's very much a war.....to the people who matter.....and competition creates an environment that means EVERYONE has to up their game.....competition means more eyes on the product......people thought Turner was mad going head to head with Raw when he first started Nitro.....why split the audience right? When in reality, BOTH shows now have more viewers than ever before.....Raw's ratings alone have doubled since I took the book.....imagine what would happen if we introduced a third 'rogue' element into the equation.....</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

.....so tell me Paul.....do you want to go to war?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....I'm not going to stop bashing WCW and the WWF on my shows....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....I wouldn't want you too.....I wouldn't want it any other way....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....I'm not going to tone down what we do....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....Paul, you're one of the most creative minds in the business.....why would I want to hold that back.....but imagine how creative you can be when you don't have to worry about money....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....and no one is going to know about this?....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....not a soul....."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".........................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".........................."</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

".....let's go to war....."</em></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Thanks very much.....it seemed only fitting to give this a proper burial, it didn't feel right coming to a close after Starrcade when this was always predominantly a WWF diary, so with that being said, Wrestlemania XIV is my goal.....and as they say, go big or go home.....and since this is the homeward stretch we may as well go big. </p><p> </p><p>

So yeah, lets book ECW as well......there's no way I could do all three long term, but three months? I think I can do that.....oh, there's also the small matter of Thunder, which is set to debut as well <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> we'll see how this goes.....</p><p> </p><p>

Looking forward to catching up with your wonderful diary too while I'm here</p>

After all, the Corporate Cannon has already failed to capture the gold in a standard one on one encounter, what chance does McMahon really think he has in a Casket Match?.....except as we soon found out, the Undertaker won't be facing the Corporate Cannon at the Royal Rumble.....he's going to be facing the Loose Cannon.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Brian 'F'n' Pillman.....</p><p> </p><p> .....and Pillman was quick to remind everyone exactly how he got that monicker in the first place, with a horrifying attack on the one time manager, mentor and friend of the Undertaker, Paul Bearer, an attack which saw Bearer's leg utterly destroyed by the (apparent) Number One contender to the WWF Championship.....</p><p> </p><p> .....which brings us to tonight.....and an almighty.....</p><p> </p><p> <strong>....::::!!!!GONG!!!!::::....</strong></p><p> </p><p> .....as the current WWF Champion The Undertaker makes his iconic walk to the ring, with his baby brother Kane by his side.....and he does NOT look particularly happy.....</p><p> </p><p> .....he grabs a microphone and says that he's going to make this really simple.....he wants Brian Pillman, and he wants him right now....so unless Vince McMahon has his little rabid puppy dog make his way out here in a few minute, The Undertaker and Kane will head right to the back, and they will tear this building (and anyone that gets in their way) to pieces looking for him.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....Brian Pillman.....you may fancy yourself some sort of Loose Cannon.....some anarchist.....some agent of chaos......but last week, you crossed a line that Satan himself would fear to cross.....you crossed a line that is going to cost you more than the chance of becoming WWF Champion.....that's going to cost you more than your career.....you crossed a line.....that's going to cost you your very soul....."</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> nofollow">https://i.imgur.com/5nJiYZV.jpg"></a></p><p> </p><p> .....speaking of soul, how about a bit of heart to go with it?......or rather Hart.....as the OTHER man who has a legitimate stake to call himself the number one contender to the WWF Championship makes his way out.....the man who earned HIS future Championship opportunity at last months Dead Man Walking event, defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin.....Bret Hart.....</p><p> </p><p> .....the Hitman isn't alone either.....he's accompanied by the rest of the Hart Foundation, as Owen Hart, Chris Jericho, and (the Bodyguard) Test follow closely behind.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Hart grabs a microphone and he's not shy in letting the crowd know that once again, he's getting screwed over here in the World Wrestling Federation.....he tells the Undertaker that everybody knows that it should be HIM getting that World Title opportunity at the Royal Rumble.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....I am the best there is.....the best there was.....the best there ever will be.....and I am the number one contender to that World Wrestling Federation Title, whether you like it, Vince McMahon likes it.....or these idiot fans like it......I earned a shot at that title, and I want what's coming to me right here, right now....."</em></p><p> </p><p> .....it looks like 'what's coming to him' is going to be an almighty beating from a Deadman who is in no mood to play games.....Taker tells Hart that right now, he has a Casket prepared with Brian Pillman's name on it......</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....don't make me have to build another one boy, because I am not in the mood for your whining right now....."</em></p><p> </p><p> .....The Undertaker says that tonight, he and Kane are going to stop the revolution in its tracks, because they are going to take Brian Pillman out of the miserable existence that he calls life.....and at the Royal Rumble, there will BE no Cannon to compete for the WWF Title, Corporate, Loose or otherwise......so maybe.....MAYBE.....Bret Hart should do the smart thing.....get out of The Deadman's way......and let the Undertaker do what he's come here tonight to do......and THEN.....at the Royal Rumble.....it will be Bret Hart that Rests.....in......Peace.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <em>".....actually, I do believe boo's breaks out through the arena.....as Vincent Kennedy McMahon makes his way out onto the entrance ramp (where he remains) along with The Enforcer Arn Anderson, and the former two time WWF Champion, The Nature Boy Ric Flair.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....you see Bret.....yes.....YOU won at last Month's In Your House event.....and YOU won the opportunity to challenge for the World Wrestling Federation Title.....but nowhere on that contract does it state that Bret Hart get's to specify WHEN he has that match, and Bret, much like I said last week, it's the Corporate Cannon that will be granted the first opportunity at the WWF Title.....</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> .....and Undertaker, as much as you seem to think otherwise, yes that match WILL be taking place as advertised, and no, you will not be getting your hands on Brian Pillman tonight......because Brian Pillman is not HERE tonight......"</em> </p><p> </p><p> .....the crowd does not like that, but it does bring McMahon to the point of his being out there right now......and that it the fact that if The Undertaker wants an opponent this evening, well he can have two......and if Bret Hart truly believes that he can take out the WWF Champion, then he can prove that right here tonight, because in the main event of the evening it's going to be The Undertaker and Kane, teaming up to face Bret and Owen Hart......</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> .....of course, that leaves Chris Jericho and Test Waltman come strutting out onto the stage alongside McMahon, Flair and Anderson.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Hall tells McMahon that since he's out here making matches, the Wolfpac have a match for him, because they want Chris Jericho and Test.....and they want them right now.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....actually Chico, what we REALLY want is that jacked up jack-off Scott Steiner, but everybody knows that Big Poppa Dump ain't man enough to face the Bad Guy head on, he has to jump people in the back....."</em></p><p> </p><p> .....Hall says it's all good though, because the Wolfpac can take it to the back when they need to, and the Big Man(g), Kevin Nash, he's gonna be back REAL soon to take care of business.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Jericho stops Hall there, telling him to shut the hell up.....he says that he has no interest in facing him OR his little pipsqueak partner Sean Waltman tonight.....Jericho says that he beat Hall to within an inch of his life at Dead Man Walking (until Hall cheated to win), he beat Hall to within HALF an inch of his life last week.....the only time he needs to step into the ring with Scott Hall again, is when the Bad Guy finally grows a set and puts the Intercontinental Title on the line.....</p><p> </p><p> <em>".....hey yo, I tol' you man(g), you wan' a shot at the belt, all you gotta do is ask.....I tell you what, you and your little blonde girlfriend there, you get in the ring with us tonight, and at the Royal Rumble, you got your shot....."</em></p><p> </p><p> .....and just like that we have two matches booked for this evening......The Undertaker & Kane facing Bret & Owen Hart in our main event.......and Scott Hall & Sean Waltman going up against Chris Jericho & Test.....and that match......is next.....</p><p> </p><p> things considered it's got some pretty big names in it.....the current (and five time) WWF Intercontinental Champion Scott Hall, the former WWF Light Heavyweight, European and two time WWF Tag Team Champion Sean Waltman, former two time (and final) WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho....and Test.....</p><p> </p><p> .....ok Test might not have quite the resume that the three other (main event) men have, but just a few months ago he was an absolute nobody with just a few months in the business, while now (after running with the Hart Foundation for a while) he is a very solid midcard star.....</p><p> </p><p> .....with that being said, you'd think perhaps Jericho and Test would be at a disadvantage considering the newcomers rookie status, coupled with the fact that Hall and Waltman are former Tag Team Champions themselves.....interestingly enough it was the Hart Foundation that took those titles from them back at Wrestlemania.....granted not Jericho and Test....it was Bret and Owen....but that still gives the Canadians the psychological edge here tonight.....</p><p> </p><p> .....the Wolfpac start strong, but it's finally the smaller man that they isolate, working over Sean Waltman and cutting the ring in half.....Test uses his superior size to overpower the Wolfpac man, while Jericho uses his agility (and off the charts levels of obnoxiousness) to keep Waltman off balance.....</p><p> </p><p> .....with a shot at Scott Hall's Intercontinental looming at the Royal Rumble, a win here would do wonders for Jericho's (admittedly already quite high) confidence levels, but it looked as though it wasn't meant to be.....because Sean Waltman finally made the hot tag, and the Bad Guy cleared house.....</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> arm......and a lead pipe in hand.....</p><p> </p><p> .....Waltman rolls out of the ring to try and head off Steiner on the floor, but a pipe shot to the skull soon takes him out of commission, and as Jericho and Test are double teaming Hall inside the ring, Steiner climbs through the ropes......</p><p> </p><p> .....and absolutely nails Hall in the back of the head with that lead pipe, putting the Ladies and Gentlemen we are one night removed from arguably the biggest night in World Championship Wrestling's history.....the night that WCW stood up and hit back against Vince Russo, Hollywood Hogan and the Titans of Wrestling.....the night that Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Benoit proved that they deserved to share that ring with the very best.....the night that Randy Savage and The Warrior learned that you can only push Shawn Michaels so far.....and most importantly, the night that Sting stepped back into the ring and bought the WCW Championship back to where it belongs.....and TONIGHT.....Tony Schiavone promises us that after months of silence, we ARE going to hear from the WCW Champion......Sting....l

.....the still images from last night conclude and the pyro erupts to signal the start of the show, and we go straight to a jubilant announce team of Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, who run down all the highs and lows of WCW Starrcade 1997, before welcoming us to WCW in 1998.....

.....Schiavone is on fine form as he openly laughs at the Titans of Wrestling's poor showing last night.....losing both the WCW Tag Team and WCW World Championships, Ray Traylor's defeat to Sid Vicious....Savage and Warrior didn't lose, but they didn't win either.....in fact, the only Titan to taste victory last night was Buff Bagwell, and even he fought a one legged man in Rowdy Roddy Piper.....all in all it was a good night for World Championship Wrestling.....and a very BAD night for the Titans of Wrestling.....

.....speaking of the Titans of Wrestling.....

.....here they come now.....and they don't look to be in a very good mood.....in fact, there looks to be a good deal of tension between them all (except for Buff Bagwell, who is in exceptionally high spirits after his victory last night) so much so that they barely even acknowledge each other as they make their way down the aisle.....

.....Vince Russo takes a microphone first, and he first of all tells this braying crowd to shut up if they want to hear what the Titans have to say.....I think it goes without saying that this crowd does not shut up.....in fact the jeering gets even louder, so much so that Russo finally gives up and hands the microphone to Hollywood Hogan.....

.....Hogan says that last night was a total miscarriage of justice.....he says that he was forced to defend HIS world title against a man that was not only fired a few weeks previous, but against a man who lost the right to challenge for that same title, when Hollywood pinned his shoulders to the mat one, two, three back at Road Wild.....

".....Eric Bischoff.....you know, just like everyone in this arena knows, Sting ain't fit to lace Hollywood's boots up brother, and the ONLY reason that he won last night was because I wasn't prepared to face him.....I was prepared for the biggest fight of my life against The Giant.....a REAL challenger, when Sting stuck in the back door like the no good snake that he is....."

.....and not only that says Hogan, but he was trying to prevent the Titans of Wrestling from imploding before his very eyes.....because with the exception of Buff, every single Titan let him down last night.....Copeland and Cage lost the Tag Team Titles to those two midcard jabroni's DDP and Chris Benoit.....Ray Traylor got his butt handed to him by Sid Vicious.....twice.....

".....and you two.....the supposed other two thirds of the Holy Trinity of Professional Wrestling, you couldn't even beat a Titan Reject and a scrawny little jobber who was 'Rocking' in the opening matches while Hulk Hogan was selling out Madison Square Garden....."

.....erm.....this probably isn't the best night to be giving Randy Savage a dressing down.....the Macho Man went through a true war last night, when (along with his partner The Warrior) he stepped in (and out) of the ring with Jean Paul Levesque and Shawn Michaels......and after blood was spilled and rules were stretched to the very limit, the official finally threw the match out and all four men found themselves getting a lift downtown courtesy of Washington DC's finest.....

.....of course, the fact that Savage and Warrior WERE arrested, means that they weren't around to make an appearance in the main event.....another fact that Hogan is quick to point out.....and that's when Savage snaps.....

.....he tells Hogan that he and Warrior might not have won their match, but unlike Hollywood, they didn't lose either.....and unlike Hollywood, Randy Savage and The Warrior put JPL and Michaels through hell.....

".....unlike you brother, brother, brother.....who just rolled over and handed the title to the Sting man with barely a fight, yeah....."

.....the Mega Powers look to be on the brink of exploding one more time here as Hogan and Savage begin to bicker amongst themselves, finally breaking out into a shoving match that Vince Russo tries to break up (unsuccessfully) only to be put on his ass by the original loose cannon of professional wrestling, Randy Savage.....

.....finally it's The Warrior that brings a halt to the arguing, putting himself between the two men as Russo grabs a microphone again.....

.....he tells everyone to calm down.....step back and take a breath.....Russo says that tempers are frayed tonight, but he's going to get back to the Status Quo around here.....

.....first of all, the Tag Team Titles.....Copeland, Cage AND Traylor are going to take care of that fluke loss from last night, and they're going to take care of it TONIGHT.....when they have their championship rematch.....

.....speaking of championship rematches.....in four weeks time, at WCW's latest event 'Souled Out', it's going to be Hollywood Hogan and Sting one more time.....except this time, it will be Hollywood with his hand raised in victory.....

.....as for the Macho Man.....since he and Warrior can't take care of business under the confines of a regular match, they're going to put the two of them in there with Shawn Michaels and JPL one more time, but THIS time, they're going to throw out all the rules.....call it no holds barred, call it a streetfight, call it whatever you want......but the only way that match will end will be by either pinfall or submission.....

.....that placates the Macho Man a little bit.....in fact, everyone looks a damn sight calmer after those announcements.....Russo isn't done though, telling Buff Bagwell that he hasn't forgotten about him.....and since he was the only Titan to win last night, he gets a very special match here tonight.....he gets the main event.....and since Mr. 'Too Good for WCW' is now under contract, that means that Vince Russo gets to book his matches.....so tonight, it's going to be the true sexy boy of WCW, Buff 'The Stuff' Bagwell, going one on one.....with Shawn Michaels.....

".....hold on.....hold on.....I hate to break up the party, but.....I'm going to break up the party....."

<img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/XMjklgs.jpg">

.....well if it isn't the public face of the WCW Championship Committee, Mr. Eric Bischoff himself.....

.....Eric tells Russo that he hates to burst his bubble.....and while all those matches sound great "they really do" there are just one or two problems.....

".....mainly with those title matches you just booked.....you see, they're not going to happen....."

.....Russo goes to shut down Bischoff, but Eric cuts him right off.....he tells him that while he thought it prudent to wait until tonight to make those matches official, certain other individuals didn't.....in fact, two parties took Eric to one side last night within ten minutes of Starrcade concluding and, well......

".....long story short, Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Benoit, they've already agreed to put the WCW Tag Team Titles on the line tonight against The Public Enemy.....and as for Sting.....he's already been challenged to a match at Souled Out.....and it's a challenge that's been accepted.....these two men have a lot of unfinished business to take care of and at Souled Out, Sting will be putting the WCW Championship on the line......against The Giant.....

.....oh, those other matches sound great though, so well done with that.....goodnight gentlemen....."

.....and with that Bischoff simply leaves.....and the Titans of Wrestling's brief good mood rapidly turns sour again, as the tension resumes and we go to a commercial for Souled Out as the commentators revel in the Titans internal bickering, while reminding us that Sting will speak.....later tonight.....

So we're back.....and we have the first title match of the evening, the first title match of 1998 and the first title defence for new champions Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Benoit.....

.....Page and Benoit have spent the best part of the last six months embarked in a bitter feud with the Titans of Wrestling, and while you've got to assume that neither man had tag title aspirations at the start of that feud, they've got to be happy to have finally delivered a huge blow to the Titans by taking the gold away from the Totally Awesome Twosome.....

.....that being said, their celebration last night was cut short by the arrival (and subsequent beatdown at the hands of) The Forgotten, who it would seem have title aspirations of their own.....DDP and Benoit were left laying last night, but they are here now and they have no problem putting their newly won championships on the line.....

.....Public Enemy are perhaps not the first team that come to mind when you think of tag team championship material, but at least they ARE an actual tag team, unlike our current champions....so while Page and Benoit are (much) bigger names on paper, they are much bigger names in singles action, while Johnny Grunge and Rocco Rock have been a regular tag team for quite some time now.....so if we are in fact talking about "on paper" maybe it's the challengers who are the favourites.....

.....either way, they lost.....

.....the Public Enemy are a big, rough, tough, brawling team, but that wasn't enough to overcome their own stupidity, and as Grunge placed Benoit on top of the ever present table that the PE like to carry with them, Rocco Rock spring-shot himself over the top rope.....Chris Benoit moved.....Rock crashed and burned through the wood.....and DDP finished off Grunge with a Diamond Cutter in the middle of the ring for the one, two, three.

Winner(s): ....and Still WCW Tag Team champions.....Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Benoit.

That's Title defence number one in the bag, and Mean Gene makes his way out to get a word from the celebrating Champions.....

.....Gene shills the hotline (obviously.....1-900-909-9900) telling us that all the news, results and rumours from last night are there (kids get your parents permission before calling) before turning to congratulate Page and Benoit, although he does prefix it by saying that while they must be pleased to be standing here as the Tag Team Champions of the world, and even more pleased to have taken those titles away from the Titans of Wrestling in the first place, their celebration was somewhat bittersweet, after it was cut short by the arrival of the Forgotten.....

.....Page agrees.....he says that after six months of ALMOST defeating the Titans of Wrestling.....after six months of being one second away from proving that they could hang with the best of the best, only for another Titan member to cheap shot them and cost them the victory.....after six months of even beginning to doubt themselves, these WCW Tag Team Titles make it all worth it.....

".....and then three monkeys like the Forgotten come along, and it all begins again....."

.....Benoit takes the mic, telling Gene that he's been saying for months that he prefers to do his talking in the ring rather than on the microphone.....Kevin Sullivan, Bam Bam Bigelow and Big Van Vader, they obviously just like jumping people while their backs are turned.....well Chris Benoit, he prefers to meet his problems head on.....

".....if it's head on you want Chris, believe me, we can do head on....."

<img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/miG15RN.jpg"><img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/GAv0MvB.jpg">

.....well, wouldn't you know it.....it's The Forgotten.....

.....Kevin Sullivan leads the way, microphone in hand as he walks down the aisle along with Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow.....

.....Sully tells Benoit and Page that last night was only a fraction of what the Forgotten are capable of.....he says that Bam Bam Bigelow and Big Van Vader joined his crusade for two reasons....one, because they were promised that Kevin Sullivan would lead them down a path littered with gold.....and two, they just really, really, REALLY like to hurt people.....something that the WCW Tag Team Champions are about to find out.....

.....Diamond Dallas Page obviously takes that threat very seriously, because as The Forgotten climb up onto the apron he tells Mean Gene to take Kimberly and get to the back, before joining his partner in a preemptive strike, rushing at the two bigger men as they climb between the ropes.....

.....it wasn't a bad idea, because it DOES give them a brief advantage.....an advantage that is eventually cut short as the three on two advantage comes into play, and then (much as they did last night) the Forgotten proceed to beat the holy hell out of the Tag Team Champions.....

<img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/yEEIHKR.jpg"><img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/iUmcjKn.jpg">

.....looks like Mean Gene did get Kimberly safely to the back.....but it doesn't look as though she's staying there.....because here she comes again, and she's bringing a BIG surprise with her.....the mammoth Sid Vicious.....

.....Sid (much like Page and Benoit) is fresh of a victory over one of the members of the Totally Awesome Trinity last night, where he solidly defeated The Enforcer Ray Traylor.....that win obviously whetted the big man's appetite for fighting, because even with the three Forgotten members standing tall, he marches straight down the aisle and steps over that top rope into the ring.....

.....Bigelow charges at Sid (but eats a Big Boot) and so does Sullivan (who eats a right hand) before Vicious comes face to face with his one time tag team partner, Big Van Vader.....

.....the two men stare each other down menacingly, before finally exchanging blows.....and it's Sid that begins to get the upper hand in this slugfest, at least until Sully and Bammers come in from behind, nailing Sid with clubbing blows to his back.....

.....before we can have another three on one beatdown however, DDP and Benoit rejoin the fray, as that three on one beating changes into a pier six brawl.....a brawl that is only finally ended when a wave of security comes rushing out from the back, and we go to commercial break.....

.....it looks like the Forgotten are far from finished with the in demand tag team champions.....

Mean Gene still looks somewhat shaken by the sudden arrival of the Forgotten during his last interview, but being the consummate professional that he is he's out here again to (not only plug the fact that Sting will speak this evening, but) introduce his next guest, the former Television Champion (and Television Championship thief) Lance Storm.....

.....Storm makes his way out, but he's not alone.....he's accompanied (as he often has been in recent weeks) by the Amazing French Canadians, Jacques Rougeau and Carl Oulette, as all three men join Gene in the ring.....

.....Mean Gene says that after last night, surely Lance Storm is now willing to accept the fact that Bill Goldberg is the WCW Television Champion, after defeating Storm in the very match that Lance demanded......a submission match.....

.....Lance Storm has been somewhat delusional as of late, going so far as to steal away the Television Title belt (after losing it to Goldberg at Mayhem) and proclaiming himself STILL the rightful Champion.....

.....he's a little bit delusional here too (probably not helped by the presence of the AFC's, who appear to be equally delusional) as he tells Gene that he doesn't know what match HE was watching, but Bill Goldberg did NOT make him submit last night.....

.....Gene is a little bit confused by that, telling Storm that the whole world saw it, and the undefeated Goldberg is still exactly that.....undefeated.....Lance Storm lost.....

.....Rougeau and Oulette pipe up here, rowdily shoving Gene around as they too proclaim that Lance Storm never submitted.....a Canadian would never quit.....Storm invites Gene to show him right now up on the big screen, a shot of the submission hold that Bill Goldberg applied to him.....

".....was it a Chickenwing Over the Shoulder Crossface? A three quarter Facelock? An STF? A step-over Armbar?.....what was it Gene?.....what about something a bit simpler.....a side headlock?....."

.....Storm says that they won't show it on the big screen because there is nothing to show.....Bill Goldberg neither applied, or knows, a single submission hold.....and even if he did, Lance Storm would have known how to reverse it.....he says that Bill Goldberg is only the Television Champion today because of crooked American officiating, but that's fine.....he says that Goldberg can hold on to the Television Title, because Lance Storm is moving on to bigger and better things.....maybe since it was biased US officiating that cost him the TV Title, Storm will go and take the US Title.....maybe he'll take the WORLD title.....he hasn't decided yet.....but any titles he DOES win, he'll win by utilising real SUBMISSION holds, just like he's going to do in his next match.....

".....because I'm a professional WRESTLER.....from Calgary.....Alberta, Canada.....home of all the worlds superior athletes.....so Gene, send me my opponent....."

And who is that opponent? Well it's one time American Male (although he's actually still American....and still a Male, but you know what I mean) and former Tag Team Champion, Scotty Riggs.....

.....Scotty Riggs isn't exactly a regular on prime time television.....sure he gets his run outs on the WCW Saturday Nights of the world, but appearances on Nitro are few and far between.....Scotty is a decent worker.....he's not great, he's not bad, but if you're looking for a half decent match then he's a solid enough hand to put in there.....he has a great look, but he's never really connected as a singles competitor, although perhaps the fact that he's playing a pretty boy babyface is working against him, and a stint as an arrogant narcissistic heel would at least get him a reaction from the crowd.....granted, he's not the greatest promo in the world, but then neither was a certain Shawn Michaels at one point when he was first cutting his teeth as an arrogant singles star.....

.....anyway, that's a thought for another day (note to self, push Riggs.....eventually) because today Riggs has one job, and that's to DO the job.....Storm really goes all in on the submission style with this one, stretching poor Scotty with all manner of holds (while still allowing the Amazing French Canadians at ringside their opportunities to interfere) before finally going for his bread and butter hold, the Canadian Maple Leaf......to which Scotty Riggs wastes no time in submitting to......your winner (by submission) Lance Storm.

From there we go backstage, where the tensions are still running high within the camp of the Titans of Wrestling.....

.....Vince Russo is currently getting an ear bashing from Hollywood Hogan, for the fact that it's going to be the Giant competing for the WCW Championship at Souled Out, not Hollywood himself.....and he is NOT pleased about it.....

.....Hogan says that Vince Russo is here in the Titans of Wrestling, to make sure that Titan Business gets taken care of.....and more importantly, to make sure that Hollywood Hogan is taken care of.....Hogan says it's bad enough that he couldn't rely on Randy Savage and The Warrior last night, without having to worry about the fact that he can't rely on Vince Russo either.....

.....a comment that sets the Macho Man off.....again.....

.....he snaps at Hogan that if he has to rely on ANYONE to hold on to the WCW Title, then maybe it's not Hollywood that should be carrying the Titan flag.....

".....maybe it's not Hollywood that should be out here looking for a title shot, yeah.....The Macho Man and The Warrior Man, we didn't ask for no help from no one, no way, no how last night.....we beat Shawn Michaels and that punk Levesque to a bloody pulp, and we didn't need no help to do it, you dig?....."

.....so maybe.....maybe it should be Randy Savage looking for a shot at that World Title.....Sting might have the Giant at Souled Out, but once Savage and Warrior destroy Michaels and Levesque, their dance card will be empty in time for, oh I don't know.....Superbrawl?.....

".....maybe it's not Hollywood time.....maybe it's Randy Savage time.....maybe it's The Warrior Man's time.....maybe it's just ANYONE time.....anyone but Hollywood, yeah....."

.....rather predictably, Hogan doesn't agree.....and again an argument breaks out between the two men.....an argument that the Warrior doesn't even try to break up this time......does he agree with Savage?.....

.....the heated words finally reach breaking point.....there's pushing, there's shoving, there are accusations.....there are threats......

".....hey.....hey!.....HEY!......THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!!....."

.....apparently it's going to be Adam Copeland and Christian Cage that are the voices of reason, and they look mortified that their two hero's are about to go to war.....

.....Copeland says that they all had their problems last night, they were all let down.....they all had their losses.....

".....well apart from Buffy the Haggis Slayer here.....because you totally kicked Roddy Piper right in the bagpipes, that was awesome....."

.....Cage says that even THEY were let down.....they were totally relying on The Enforcer being out there at ringside to cheer them on.....he says that Ray Traylor is like their own one man cheerleader.....he totally gets them super hyped up for their matches, but he wasn't there when they needed him.....

".....you totally got your ass kicked by Sid Vicious, and that's totally NOT cool.....BUT.....we forgive you Big Ray Ray.....partly because we're pretty damn nice guys, but mainly.....because we're bro's....."

.....Copeland says that no one wants to see this.....no one wants to see the Mega Powers explode.....he says that Hogan and Savage are two of the biggest names in all of Wrestling, they can totally put this behind them.....he says that the Titans had their set backs, but they just have to remember that they're ALL bro's.....

".....I know we're all totally bummed right now, but Buff, he's gonna Heartbreak Kick Shawn Michaels ass later.....and Macho and Warrior, they're going to finish the job at Souled Out, because that's what we do.....we totally overcome.....we are the Titans of Wrestling.....the best thing to happen to wrestling since, well, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage....."

.....Cage says that he and Adam, they're gonna show the world what it means to be part of the Totally Awesome Trinity.....and that being a Titan of Wrestling means facing your problems head on.....

.....with that Cage and Copeland stop for a moment to break out that (Totally Awesome) Mega Powers handshake, before heading out of the room.....

".....come on Big Ray Ray.....we've got some dogs to neuter....."

We go back down to ringside now, where we have our second title match of the evening, and it's Bill Goldberg putting the Television Title on the line, against the Fighting Irish, Fit Finlay.....

.....it's not going to be as cut and dry here as many people might think.....Fit Finlay may not have made quite the impression that the undefeated rookie has here in WCW, but Finlay is a veteran of the sport who has wrestled the world over.....he's a tough, tough man who loves nothing more than a tough, tough fight.....

.....I guess he's in there with the right opponent then.....

.....it's funny, Bill Goldberg has been the WCW Television Champion for little over one month now, and he HAS defended that title numerous times since winning it.....but this is the first time he's come out on tv with the actual physical belt.....be kind of ironic if he lost it on it's very first outing then right?.....

.....he didn't lose it.....

.....Finlay put up one hell of a fight, but just like everyone else he fell victim to the Spear/Jackhammer combination, to see Bill Goldberg retain his Television Title, and retain his unbeaten streak, walking out this evening at 57-0.

Winner: ....and Still WCW Television Champion.....Bill Goldberg

As Bill Goldberg moves one win closer to his next big milestone victory, we air a promo video for Sting, before the commentators again remind us that we will hear from our brand new WCW Champion later this evening.....at least they try to.....before their words are abruptly cut off by the music of the Titans of Wrestling.....as the Totally Awesome Trinity make their way out.....

.....Copeland and Cage lead the way, with Big Ray Ray....sorry.....I mean, with The Enforcer Ray Traylor bringing up the rear.....nightstick at the ready.....

.....Copeland takes a microphone, and (after he and Cage have done that totally sweet Mega Powers handshake) he tells the crowd that they are out here to show the world that the Titans of Wrestling "always totally come back bigger and better than ever".....he says that tensions are running high right now in the Titans of Wrestling, but no one worry.....because the Mega Powers will NOT be exploding anytime soon, and everybody's two favourite hero's and icons (Hogan and Savage) will totally put their differences behind them soon.....

".....but in the meantime, me and Christian, we're totally out here to take care of business.....because last night, we were robbed of our WCW Tag Team titles.....we were totally unprepared....."

".....and frankly distraught Adam....."

".....and frankly distraught, after the beating our good bro Big Ray Ray took at the hands of Sid Doofus.....and we were robbed, because two no good mangey mutts stuck their totally ugly snouts into our business....."

.....Copeland says that he's heard a rumour that the Pitbulls are here this evening.....and if that's the case, they should totally get their butts out here so that the Totally Awesome Trinity can rub their noses in the mess they made.....

".....so monkeys in the back.....play their funky music.....and release the hounds......"

.....and the Pitbulls music does indeed begin to play.....

.....and the Pitbulls DO come out.....

.....I guess.....

.....kind of anyway.....

.....because what ACTUALLY comes out, are two leather clad midgets (dressed in as dangerously close to S&M gear as Turner executives would allow) being lead out on collars and dog chains by a very ugly, VERY obese lady(?) who isn't wearing a great deal either.....

.....the 'Pitbulls' climb into the ring, where Copeland tells them that they totally have some explaining to do.....he tells the two mangey mutts that last night, they cost the best tag team in WCW the tag team titles.....they cost the Totally Awesome Trinity the tag team titles.....and they totally cost the Titans of Wrestling the tag team titles....."and you DON'T want to be costing the Titans of Wrestling ANYTHING now, do you?".....

.....'Madusa' speaks for the 'Pitbulls', telling Copeland and Cage that she's sorry....very sorry....she says that the last thing they want to do is upset the Titans of Wrestling.....and they will do ANYTHING to make it up to them.....

".....well first of all, thank you Madusa, for having the decency to admit what a totally stupid move that was..........you look great by the way, did you drop a few pounds?....."

.....'Madusa' almost blushes at that remark, fluttering her eyelashes (on her good eye....the lazy one doesn't do much) at Copeland, before Cage snatches the microphone.....he tells Copeland to stop flirting with 'Madusa'.....he doesn't want to go there.....

".....I mean, I'm not saying she's easy, but she's totally responsible for more merry men than Robin Hood....."

.....Cage says that it's nice and all that they're sorry.....but now, they're totally gonna kick their butts anyway.....

.....and that's exactly what they do.....they beat the snot out of the two 'Pitbulls', before finally finishing off poor little 'Pitbull #2' with the Pitbulls own Superbomb from the second rope.....

.....job done, Copeland tells Big Ray Ray to take out the trash (which The Enforcer does, throwing a 'Pitbull' over each shoulder and taking them to the back, as Copeland and Cage celebrate their epic victory.....

.....although they do look kind of annoyed that the Pitbull's music is playing and not theirs.....

"src="https://i.imgur.com/FQLifWf.jpg">

.....of course that might have something to do with the fact that the REAL Pitbulls (along with their manager Madusa) are making their way out from the back and running down the aisle.....

.....they hit the ring and go straight after the former tag team champions, revenge on their mind after Cage and Copeland took out Anthony Durante with a Con-Chair-To a few weeks back on this very show.....

.....with The Enforcer not there to watch their backs however, Copeland and Cage seem to be less eager to face of against the real Pitbulls than they were to face their pint sized counterparts, and before either man can lay a finger on the Canadians, the Totally Awesome Twosome quickly bolt from the ring and scarper to the back, leaving Madusa to grab the discarded microphone to promise Cage and Copeland that her Pitbulls are coming for them one way or another......as we go to commercial.

And we're back.....and we are back down at ringside, where the current WCW United States Champion (and Papi of Perfection) Eddie Guerrero is making his way out.....he's not alone though.....as he has the newest member of the WCW roster by his side, his nephew.....Chavo Guerrero Jr.....

.....the two Guerrero's climb into the ring, and Eddie is clearly brimming with confidence following his victory over The Rock last night, a victory that (he is quick to point out) makes him the current longest reigning champion here in WCW.....and therefore the BEST champion in the world.....

.....Eddie says that at the rate they're going, they're going to have to rename this the 'Eddie Guerrero Championship', because he's rapidly running out of opponents to defend it against.....he says that there is no champion in wrestling today who has a laundry list of who's who under their belt in title defences.....no champion except Eddie Guerrero that is.....

".....Órale Vato.....you can even forget about Bill Goldberg little streak esè, because the only streak that matters in wrestling today, is Eddie Guerrero's US Title winning streak....."

".....Eddie Guerrero, the only streak that matters around here is that streak of yellow running up your back, that big yellow streak of p!ss running down your leg....."

<img style="max-width:15%;

".....and that big brown streak you've got in your underoo's, because the thought of going one on one with the great one makes you wanna straight up crap your pants....."

.....you had to have known that the Rock would have something to say after getting his brains rattled with a set of brass knuckles last night (brass knuckles that Chavo Guerrero Jr. supplied) and here he is, larger than life and microphone in hand as he walks straight down the aisle and into the ring.....

.....Eddie doesn't look particularly pleased at this development, telling Rocky that he's had his shot.....he's had his chance.....and just like that other fat Samoan Rikishi, he lost to Eddie Guerrero.....

".....just like Jeff Hardy, Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Benoit.....they all got titles now esé, but they couldn't take mine.....just like Rick Martel, Brad Armstrong....BOB Armstrong.....just like Mr. Not-so-Perfect Curt Hennig.....just like YOU holmes.....everyone goes down to Eddie Guerrero esé....."

".....woah, woah, woah.....say that again....."

".....everyone goes down to Eddie Guerrero esé.....you line them up and the Papi of Perfection knocks them now like a piñata holmes....."

".....let me get this straight.....do you actually think that YOU beat the Rock?....."

".....that exactl....."

".....IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!!!.....

.....Eddie Guerrero, you didn't beat the Rock, no, no, no, no, no.....The Rock was out here doing what the Rock does.....he was entertaining the people.....he was electrifying the people.....he was bouncing you around the ring so much and so fast, that you looked like the greasy haired love-child of Speedy Gonzales and Woody Woodpecker.....YOU didn't beat the Rock.....that was your little pet chihuahua there when he handed you those brass knuckles....."

.....Rocky says that he spent weeks telling people that Eddie Guerrero was good.....but if Eddie had come out here and beat him like a man, The Rock would be standing here right now telling people that Eddie Guerrero is GREAT.....but he's not.....because just like always he has to find some way to cheat his way to victory.....

".....well that's all well and good, and if the Rock was here tonight to fight you for that US Title, you MIGHT find a way to lie, cheat and steal a win.....but the Rock ain't here to fight you for that US Title tonight.....

.....The Rock is simply here to whip your monkey ass back to Mexico....."

.....and with that, the Rock knocks Chavo Guerrero on his ass with a huge open handed blow, before unleashing a flurry of right hands to Eddie, that leaves this Papi looking anything but Perfect.....

.....Eddie tries to fight back, but he's not having much luck.....The Rock is intent on punishing Guerrero here and finally plants him with a Samoan Drop, before kicking his arms to his sides, getting him into position for the People's Elbow.....

....there's no elbow pad to remove, but Rocky still does the rest of the theatrics, before running the ropes and winding up.....

.....and that's when Chavo nails him from behind with the United States Title.....

.....Chavo helps his uncle to his feet and looks to lead him to the back, but with The Rock down, Eddie doesn't look as though he wants to go anywhere and he begins putting the boots to the fallen people's champion, ordering his nephew to do the same.....

.....the two Guerrero's stomp the life out of Rocky, before Eddie tells Chavo to hold The Rock in position on the mat, because he's going to finish him off with the Frog Splash, then turns and makes his way to the top rope.....

.....he doesn't get to fly though.....

<img style="max-width:15%;

.....because Curt Hennig (who hasn't been seen since his loss to Guerrero) comes rushing down the aisle, onto the apron, and shoves the Papi of Perfection right back down to the mat.....

.....Chavo rushes Hennig, but he only runs into a right hand as Curt brushes him to one side to pounce on top of Guerrero, hammering him with blows.....

.....Chavo briefly breaks up the skirmish, and the Guerrero's have another short two on one assault, before a groggy Rock gets back to his feet, coming to Curt's aid as he and Hennig fight Eddie and Chavo off, sending the United States Champion and his nephew bailing to the back, as we go to another promo package for Sting, hyping his appearance tonight.

We're back......it's time for our third title match of the evening (you lucky people you) and it's young Jeff Hardy putting his newly won WCW Cruiserweight Title on the line against a gentleman that he actually defeated in the first round of the Cruiserweight Title tournament, Jinsei Shinzaki.....

.....Jeff Hardy shouldn't actually be competing here tonight with the Cruiserweight Title around his waist.....it was SUPPOSED to be Yoshiro Tajiri that walked out of Starrcade with that distinction, however after basically breaking his neck during the course of that match (putting him on the shelf for the best part of the next year and a half) it was an audible call to give Hardy the title and so here we are.....

.....with that being said, Jeff Hardy is a fine champion (and probably would have taken that title from Tajiri at some point anyway) so it's not the end of the word that he has the gold.....he's also a LOT more over than perhaps the rest of the division, which isn't a bad thing I suppose.....

.....anyway, the match.....it was good.....good enough anyway.....the former Hakushi is a solid worker, and can do enough of both the wrestling and the flippity flops to keep the crowd amused.....it wasn't enough to give him the victory though.....and Hardy finished him off with a Swanton Bomb to give him the one, two, three, and his first successful title defence.....

.....and as the champion celebrates his victory, we have an arrival on the scene.....two arrivals actually.....as James Vandenberg makes his way down the aisle, along with his masked client Mortis.....

.....Vandenberg and his little unholy ministry have been locked in a violent feud with young Jeff Hardy for quite some time now, but for the last few weeks an uneasy truce had fallen upon them.....after being the victim of assaults, attacks, beatdowns and two on one ambushes, James Vandenberg finally offered Jeff Hardy a brief reprise.....he assured him that for the duration of the Cruiserweight Title tournament, that neither Mortis nor Tajiri would harm so much as one hair on his head, preferring to save the violence for the official match between Hardy and Tajiri......and they were actually true to their word......of course, that tournament has now concluded, and after Jeff Hardy spurned Vandenberg's offer to join his ministry, you've got to wonder just how he's going to react to that rejection.....

.....Hardy readies himself for an attack as Vandenberg and Mortis enter the ring, but Vandenberg tells Hardy to calm himself.....

.....he says that last week he offered Jeff Hardy the choice to do the right thing.....lay down, hand Tajiri the Cruiserweight Title, and offer himself to the alter of James Vandenberg as the newest member of his congregation.....

".....an offer that you declined young man......and in the process, you not only defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri, but you took him out of the sport.....possibly permanently....."

.....Hardy disputes that, saying that Tajiri's injury wasn't his fault (and it actually wasn't) and the last thing he would want to do is end another man's career.....Vandenberg doesn't care what Hardy has to say however, telling him that's all irrelevant......

".....in fact, if anything I should perhaps be thanking you Mr. Hardy.....because Yoshihiro Tajiri was obviously not strong enough to walk the same path as I and Mortis.....Yoshihiro Tajiri obviously needed to be cleansed from the sport of professional wrestling, and YOU did that for us.....so thank you....."

.....Vandenberg continues that may be the case, it has left him with a rather tedious problem that offers a rather unique opportunity.....see, Vandenberg wants that Cruiserweight Championship.....it is a new title.....a blank slate.....a championship not yet completely sullied by the taint of numerous unworthy holders.....he wants the Cruiserweight Championship.....AND he has a spot open in his congregation.....and Mortis is too big to challenge for the Cruiserweight Title.....so consider this an invitation to join.....

.....Hardy cuts Vandenberg off there, telling him that he thought he'd made himself clear at Starrcade.....he didn't need the guidance of Jame Vandenberg to win the Cruiserweight Title.....he didn't need the help of Mortis to retain his title tonight.....he won't require the assistance of EITHER man in the future.....so once again, he's going to decline the offer.....

".....oh Mr. Hardy.....the innocence of youth.....you misunderstand young man.....I wasn't making that offer to you....."

<img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/jMg73vi.jpg">

.....with that, Hardy gets taken out from behind by Jinsei Shinzaki.....

".....I was making it to him....."

.....Shinzaki grabs hold of the Cruiserweight Champion and kicks him in the gut, and then drives him into the mat with an impressive looking Sit-out Powerbomb, before turning to Vandenberg and adopting his praying pose towards his (we presume) new manager.....

.....Vandenberg laughs, before telling Hardy that he may have bested Jinsei before (twice before actually) but now that he has the guidance of a higher power, it won't be long before Shinzaki brings that Cruiserweight Championship over to the Ministry.....

.....let's air another promo package.....because Sting speaks.....next.....

Well it's that time folks.....Mean Gene is standing right in the middle of the ring, where he tells the crowd that this is quite frankly a moment he's been waiting to happen for months now.....a moment so important, that the Total Package Lex Luger just had to witness it in person.....

".....ladies and gentlemen, join me at this time in welcoming the man who wholeheartedly defeated Hollywood Hogan last night.....he IS the franchise of World Championship Wrestling and most importantly, he IS the WCW Champion......he is.....Sting......"

.....the crowd explodes as the arena is plunged into darkness, and those same thunder and lightning effects that debuted at last nights Starrcade event mark the entrance of the brand new WCW Champion, who (as he has done for months now) rappels down from the rafters of the building, landing in the aisleway, WCW Title wrapped firmly around his waist.....

.....Lex Luger (and Mean Gene) applaud the man as Sting climbs up onto the apron and steps between the ropes, and as the lights come back on The Total Package offers his outstretched hand to the man who has trusted NOBODY since the betrayal of the Warrior.....

.....Sting looks down at the hand of his one time friend, his face still brandishing that same neutral expression that we have grown accustomed to.....before finally a small smile cracks on his lips, and he takes Lugers hand is his own.....a fact that Lex instantly takes advantage of.....

.....by delivering a big low blow to the Stinger.....

.....I'm joking (but would it really have come as a surprise?).....

.....a fact that Lex instantly takes advantage of by pulling his friend in close for a huge embrace.....The Total Package has been trying to renew his friendship with the man called Sting for months now.....it looks like he finally has his wish.....

.....Gene lets the two men have their moment, before finally doing what he's out here to do.....first of all, congratulating Sting once again......and second of all, asking Sting where do we go from here?.....

.....Sting looks out at the crowd for a moment, before letting loose with that loud howl that hasn't been heard for months.....as he tells Gene that it's good to be back.....

.....Sting isn't the greatest promo in the world (we all know that) but after months of silence, these people couldn't care less.....he tells Gene that where we go from here is exactly where they have been going for the last few months.....straight down the road that leads to the destruction of the Titans of Wrestling......

".....you see Gene, I've sat back for months now and I've watched.....I've watched WCW fighting with their last breath.....I've seen WCW rally together.....I've seen WCW rise.....fall.....and then rise again.....I've seen the Titans of Wrestling continue to grow and continue to grow stronger.....and I've sat back and watched.....and watched.....and watched.....

.....and yeah I heard the questions......I heard the 'why Sting, why'......why won't you step into the ring.....why won't you face the Titans.....why won't you fight Hollywood Hogan.....why won't you just end this.....and the simple fact of the matter is, I couldn't.....

.....I could have defeated Hollywood Hogan a thousand times over.....I could have pinned him....made him submit.....I could have defeated him seven days a week, three hundred and sixty four days a year, but until I was able to take this WCW Championship away from him, none of that would have mattered....."

.....Sting said that as long as Hollywood Hogan had this title around his waist, he had a stranglehold on the whole company.....Sting said that he watched as wrestler after wrestler tried (and failed) to wrest the gold away from Hogan, until finally he did what he had to do to take care of business.....the face Hollywood.....to GET that title opportunity, because he knew that one opportunity was all he would need......

".....so where do we go from here?.....it doesn't matter Gene.....because WCW is back in the driving seat....."

<img style="max-width:15%;

"src="https://i.imgur.com/TfYwFGH.jpg">

.....well, WCW might be in the driving seat, but it looks as though Sting's WCW Title reign is about to hit a VERY big bump in the road.....because here (as Eric Bischoff informed us earlier) comes the new number one contender (and man who will be facing Sting at Souled Out) The Giant, comes striding down the aisle.....

.....Giant has a microphone of his own and tells Sting that the only place he's going, is straight to the hospital after The Giant FINALLY gets his hands on him.....

.....Giant says that Sting has been ducking him for months now, but there will be nowhere to run.....nowhere to hide.....and at Souled Out, Sting is going to find out exactly what his little friend Lex Luger already knows.....

".....and that's the fact that you don't p!ss off an already angry Giant.....and the fact that when I drive you through the mat with a Chokeslam, you're not the same after......

.....ain't that right Flexy Lexy.....how ARE the ribs doing now anyway?....."

.....Luger subconsciously clutches at his midsection as the Giant continues......the big man tells Sting that while he might have been the man to defeat Hollywood Hogan for that World Title, truth be told, Giant doesn't care WHO he defeats to become the WCW Champion.....

.....BUT.....the fact that it IS Sting that he's going to be defeating at Souled out, does makes his inevitable victory all the sweeter.....

.....because after months of hiding in the rafters.....after months of costing The Giant victories.....jumping him from behind.....hitting him with bats.....it's all going to come to an end at Souled Out....just like Sting's brief World Title reign is going to come to an end.....

.....Sting doesn't back down for a second from the big man, he simply shrugs off his long black trench coat, unclips the WCW Title (and places it on the mat in front of him) and tells the Giant that he isn't hiding ANYWHERE.....he's right here, and if the Giant wants to do something about it, then go right ahead.....

.....Giant says he's happy to wait.....he has his shot.....he FINALLY has his opportunity.....he's not going to risk that now by squashing Sting like a bug, injuring him and jeopardising his World Title opportunity, telling the Champion that he's waited this long.....he can wait until Souled Out.....before turning, stepping over the top rope, and heading right back to the locker rooms as Sting (and Luger) watches him leave, before picking up the Big Gold Belt and hoisting it high for these fans......as we go to commercial.

After that brief word from our sponsors we head back to the locker room of the Titans of Wrestling, where (despite the Totally Awesome Trinity's best intentions) the atmosphere is still tense.....even Adam Copeland and Christian Cage are subdued after their little plan to humiliate the Pitbull's backfired.....in fact, the only one who appears to be in a jovial mood is also the only Titan to have won last night......

.....Buff Bagwell.....

.....because while Savage and Hogan are still sniping at each other, Buff is over the other side of the room watching a replay video of him defeating Roddy Piper last night.....and he is clearly having a great time.....or he was.....

.....Buff soon shuts up as Savage screams at him that he's going to be facing Shawn Michaels tonight.....he's going to be facing Shawn Michaels tonight and instead of concentrating on the fact that he's going to be facing Shawn Michaels tonight, he's sat here bragging about beating up a man that could barely walk.....

.....Savage says that if Bagwell REALLY wants to do something impressive, then he should take Shawn Michaels out.....

".....not all the way, way out, because the Macho Man is going to do that at Souled Out yeah.....but most of the way out....way down and way out.....you beat Roddy Piper, yeah ya did, but tonight, it isn't about winning or losing dig it?....."

.....Macho says that tonight, it's about making Shawn Michaels suffer.....it's about making Shawn Michaels hurt.....it's about putting Shawn Michaels on his back.....and when Shawn Michaels IS on his back, the Macho Man is going to come out there....The Warrior Man is going to come out there.....the Totally Awesome Trinity are going to come out there.....and yeah, if he's done bitching and moaning, Hollywood Hogan is going to come out there.....and they're going to show WCW that one lucky night isn't going to put the Titans of Wrestling out of business.....

".....because Shawn Michaels.....he's a dead man brother, yeah....."

Last night, Mike Awesome returned to his Gladiator persona to join forces with the Road Warriors as they battled the Forgotten in a Starrcade Six-man Streetfight.....it didn't actually go so well, because The Forgotten came out victorious in that bout.....maybe the Mike Awesome persona would have more luck tonight.....

.....it wasn't going to be easy though.....he was up against one half of the Faces of Fear, and while Meng may not have the greatest win/loss record around here, he is still quite the formidable opponent.....

.....and even more formidable when his partner is about.....

.....because as Jimmy Hart goes to work distracting the official, The Barbarian makes his way out and climbs into the ring, where he and Meng connect with a double big boot either side of Awesome's temple, squashing his skull like a vice between their feet.....

.....Meng applies the Tongan Death Grip, and as Barb climbs out of the ring, Jimmy Hart diverts the officials attention back to the action.....Awesome doesn't submit, but he is incapacitated just long enough for the referee to register the one, two, three.....

.....but why stop there?.....

.....why indeed.....because it doesn't look like the Faces of Fear have any intention of stopping any time soon.....

.....Mike Awesome can't be even close to 100% after the war that he went through last night, and Jimmy Harts men take full advantage of that as they continue the assault.....

.....Cain has been out with "injury" ever since he suffered and assault at the hands of the Forgotten....and I use those quotation marks because actually, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Gideon Cain.....I just wanted a third man to team with the Road Warriors, so "injuring" Cain seemed like the easiest way to get one of these two men on the team, and while Cain will probably turn out to be the bigger star of these two (particularly if Bobby Eaton continues to be as good of a mentor as he currently is) Mike Awesome is the bigger star and the more experienced of the pair right now, so he got the nod.....

.....but I digress.....

.....Cain comes rushing out from the back and slides into the ring, where he goes straight to work fending off the Faces of Fear.....Meng and Barb gain a brief upper hand, and the duo send Cain running the ropes with an Irish Whip, but he ducks a double clothesline attempt and hits a big double clothesline of his own on the return.....Gideon is a big lad, but his clothesline only manages to rock the two big island boys.....but as they're rocking, Mike Awesome gets back to his feet, joining his partner in rushing across the ring, where a clothesline a piece sends Meng and the Barbarian crashing to the outside.....

.....Jimmy Hart finally leads his team away (choosing to fight another day) as Missy joins her men in the ring, and we go to a promo hyping the debut of World Championship Wrestling's newest television venture, airing this Thursday on TBS.....

It's main event time now, but before we go down to ringside, we go to the back, where Mean Gene is attempting to get word from Shawn Michaels ahead of his Monday Nitro debut.....

.....I say attempting, because Shawn isn't exactly his chatty self.....and neither is Jean Paul Levesque who is stood beside him.....Gene asks Shawn if he heard the comments of the Macho Man earlier this evening, warning the pair that while there may well be a match with Buff a Bagwell scheduled, he may well actually be walking into an ambush.....

.....Shawn stares silently at Gene for a moment, before shaking his (battle scarred from last night) head and asking Gene if he has ANY idea who he's talking to?.....he says that if anyone knows a thing or two about ambushes, it's Shawn Michaels.....

".....and this, this ain't no ambush.....Randy Savage outright said that he'll be walking down that aisle and sticking his nose in this match.....and you know what, that suits me just fine.....because I ain't going out there alone, and the second Randy Savage sticks his head into that ring, I'm gonna kick it right off his shoulders....."

.....Shawn (and Levesque) say that last night solved nothing, and did little to satisfy their hunger for ending the Titans of Wrestling.....and more importantly, it didn't nothing to satisfy their appetite for the destruction of the Macho Man and The Warrior.....but at Souled Out, when all the rules go out the window, they're going to show these Titans of Wrestling exactly what their little clique is made of.....

".....and Buff Bagwell, boy, you have no idea what you're letting yourself in for.....see you might have beaten A icon last night, but tonight you're facing THE Icon.....the Icon that can still go and more importantly, the Icon with two good legs.....and I'm going to take these two good legs and tap dance all over your face with a little bit of Sweet Chin Music....."

.....Levesque tells Gene to stay back here where it's safe.....watch on that monitor.....because Titans rise and Titans fall.....last night, the foundations were rocked.....the cracks appeared.....and tonight, the Titans of Wrestling come tumbling down.

This is the main event of the evening, and what a huge 48 hours it has been for Marcus "Buff" Bagwell.....fresh off of a victory over a (half crippled) Icon last night when he defeated Rowdy Roddy Piper in an "unsanctioned fight", he's following that up with a spot in the main event of Nitro, against THE Icon himself, Shawn Michaels.....and to say that Buff is cockiness personified would be in understatement.....

.....if there's one thing Buff Bagwell is good at, it's being an obnoxious a-hole, and he's at his very best here as he hobbles down the aisle (mocking Roddy Piper) before letting out a huge laugh and popping that Buff Bicep Pose before talking smack about Shawn Michaels into the camera all the way down to ringside.....

.....as for Shawn Michaels, true to his word he isn't coming out here alone, because JPL is following closely behind him, and as the pair make their entrance they both bear the marks of their brutal battle with Randy Savage and The Warrior from just 24 hours earlier.....

.....this is only Shawn Michaels second match for World Championship Wrestling, after (reluctantly) signing for the company in order to compete against the Titans of Wrestling at Starrcade, and after not competing for nearly four months prior, you have to wonder how good of a match he is going to be able to pull out of a worker of Buff's limited skill set.....

.....turns out, a pretty damn good one.....

.....it shouldn't have come as much of a surprise I guess, after all, Shawn Michaels managed to drag Marty Jannetty to an A-Rated match just last year.....TWO of them actually.....so the fact that he gave Buff Bagwell perhaps the best match of his career to date was probably inevitable.....

.....he makes Buff look like a million bucks as he bumps and sells like a superstar, playing off on the fact that he is nowhere near peak condition following a hard fought brawl (and a night in the cells) last night.....Bagwell even came close to victory on a number of occasions, before Michaels finally mounts a comeback.....rocks the Titan.....decks the Titan.....and backs up to the corner of the ring.....

.....where he begins to Tune up the Band.....

.....when (also true to their word) The Macho Man Randy Savage and The Warrior come rushing out from the back.....

.....Levesque is able to cut off The Warrior (as the two begin brawling on the outside) but Savage avoids his grasp and hops up onto the apron, sticking his head between the ropes to enter.....

.....when Shawn Michaels (just like he said he would) kicks him straight in the mouth with some Sweet Chin Music.....

.....Bagwell charges at Shawn (as Savage drops to the floor in a heap) but Michaels ducks a clothesline attempt.....

.....but the fun don't stop there.....and with Bagwell down, Michaels doesn't even bother celebrating.....he simply climbs to the top rope, and as Savage pulls himself back to his feet, Levesque and Warrior brawl their way over to where the Macho Man is positioned at ringside.....

.....although Levesque soon moves out of the way.....

.....because Michaels comes flying from the top, all the way down to the floor, taking out Warrior and Savage as he goes.....

.....Bagwell is still flat on his back, but help isn't far behind from for the Titans.....

.....Savage gave the battle cry earlier in the evening, stating that victory wasn't the ultimate goal tonight, the ultimate goal was to lay a beating to Levesque and Michaels.....and the Totally Awesome Trinity are answering that call to arms.....

.....Copeland, Cage and Traylor come rushing out from the back, but JPL and Michaels are waiting and manage to get the jump on them, briefly managing to overcome the three on two disadvantage.....

.....very briefly.....

.....because as Bagwell finally gets back into the fray, Warrior and Savage aren't too far behind.....and that three on two disadvantage quickly turns into a six on two disadvantage, with Michaels and Levesque looking to be in serious trouble.....

.....particularly Shawn Michaels.....

.....because Randy Savage has mounted his chest and is currently attempting to re-open the cut on Michaels head (that was bleeding so freely last night) with blow after blow.....

.....WCW is on a real high after the events of last night however, and the unity in the roster is shining through right here, because out to lend a hand comes the Total Package Lex Luger.....the new WCW Tag Team Champions Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Benoit.....and the man of the hour himself, the brand new WCW Champion.....Sting......

.....the four men hit the ring and they go straight for the Titans of Wrestling.....Sting has a match with the Giant upcoming at Souled Out, while Benoit and Page appear to have their hands full with the Forgotten.....all of that is put to one side here though, as they unite to fulfil Sting's earlier proclamation that WCW is in the driving seat around here now, beating back the offence of the Titans, who quickly bail out of the ring and up the aisle-way to the back.....

.....with Randy Savage loudly asking the Trinity where the hell Hollywood Hogan was.....

.....Luger and Sting help a grateful Levesque back to his feet, while Benoit and Page do the same for Shawn Michaels.....who stares at the four WCW arrivals for a moment.....

.....and then Superkicks Chris Benoit right in the face.....

.....the commentators aren't happy about that.....neither are the crowd.....and the cavalry don't look particularly pleased either, as Page drops to the mat to check on his partner.....

.....Luger (and even Levesque) loudly question what Michaels is doing, but Shawn Michaels is clearly in a bad, bad mood.....he tells the four men that this isn't some WCW coming out party.....this isn't all for one and one for all.....and this sure as hell isn't Shawn Michaels and his band of merry men.....

.....Michaels says that he signed his name on the dotted line around here for one reason and one reason only.....to take out the Titans of Wrestling.....and he doesn't need the B-Team's help to do it, before briefly looking down at the WCW Title in Sting's hand and then locking eyes with the Champion himself.....

.....he tells the WCW men to stay out of his business.....stay out of his way.....or taking out the Titans won't be the only item on his to-do list.....

.....with that, he too climbs out of the ring and heads to the back.....leaving an apologetic Levesque inside the ring, and (as he's helped to his feet by DDP) a very p!ssed off looking Chris Benoit watching him leave.....

.....goodnight fans.....we will see you Thursday night on TBS.....for WCW Thunder.
