Once in the ring, "The Chosen One" himself, Jeff Jarrett, is the first to speak and he talks about Booker T, saying that no matter how many times Booker T tries to jump him from behind, the fact still remains that HE is the World Heavyweight Champion, not Booker T! And that FACT is not gonna change any time soon! Jarrett then hands the mic to Eric Bischoff, who talks about the six man tag team match at Bash at the Beach, saying that as part of their preparations for that match he has booked the WCW Tag Team Champions in a title match tonight to make sure they are in tip-top shape for the six man battle. Meanwhile, Bischoff notes that Nash and Page have yet to find a partner, leading Bischoff to conclude that nobody wants to team with a bunch of selfish, washed up, has-beens, and more than likely Nash and Page will have to go it alone at Bash at the Beach. <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="YiAV5xv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YiAV5xv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qc8WHPD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qc8WHPD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> This, of course, brings out The Insiders as Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page make their way out from the back, but they remain at the top of the entrance ramp. Nash speaks first and he says that he doesn't know about Booker, T but as far as Bischoff is concerned...he shouldn't worry about him and Page because guess what? They already have a third man for Bash at the Beach! The crowd cheers this announcement as Nash hands the mic to DDP, who says that their partner is someone who they both know well, someone who was just itching to get back in the ring. And, as a matter of fact, he was the one who called them and offered to be their third man. An angry Eric Bischoff demands to know who it is, but Nash says that he'll just have to wait and see at Bash at the Beach--just like everyone else. With that the Wolfpac music hits again and The Insiders disappear into the back, having made a huge announcement to kick off Nitro! <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Tag Team Championships</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="OQcwFPp.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OQcwFPp.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="epiwJ9r.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/epiwJ9r.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tjPJopW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tjPJopW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="iv846pY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iv846pY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="v4ps6Ig.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/v4ps6Ig.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff return to the back, but Totally Buff remains in the ring as they are set to defend the WCW Tag Team Championships against the WCW United States Champion, Rey Misterio Jr., and Konnan. Tony and Mike discuss the fact that Bischoff wasn't kidding about wanting to make sure Luger and Bagwell were at the top of their game, booking them against two formidable opponents in Rey and Konnan. The crowd was already buzzing following the opening segment, and they were very into this match from the get-go--firmly in the corner of Rey and Konnan. This is a good match with a lot of back and forth action, but in the end Rey and Konnan come up short as a Buff Bagwell distraction of the referee allows "The Total Package" to drive a steel chair into the ribs of Konnan, and Luger then hoists Konnan up in the Torture Rack while Buff deals with Rey, leaving Konnan with no choice but to submit.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Totally Buff defeated Konnan and Rey Misterio Jr. at 11.47 by submission when Luger forced Konnan to submit to the Torture Rack. With Konnan down and unable to help, Storm is free to apply the Canadian Maple Leaf on Rey, inflicting as much damage as possible just two weeks before he faces Rey for the United States Title at Bash at the Beach! A handful of referees are finally able to get Storm off Rey, but has the damage been done already here? <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="DeMllKw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DeMllKw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Sugar" Shane Helms is out from the back and he makes a beeline for the ring where he gets on the mic and calls out Cash, saying that he's got a score to settle with him and they're going to settle it right now!!! Tony and Mike note that Helms missed last week's Nitro due to the attack he suffered at the hands of M.I. Smooth at the Great American Bash, and that obviously Helms is looking for retribution here tonight.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="O0I3vYs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O0I3vYs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="xwUJi96.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xwUJi96.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Cash comes out from the back, along with his new bodyguard, Smooth, and Cash asks if Shane really wants to face him? "I don't think so". Cash says that Helms is too damned thick-headed for his own good and that maybe he should just have Smooth finish what he started at the Great American Bash? Helms looks like he'd be up for that fight, but Cash says that if Shane can beat Smooth at Bash at the Beach, which he can't, then maybe he'll consider granting Shane the privilege of stepping into the ring with him again. Cash adds that the smart money is on Smooth, and you can bet on that! As Cash drops the mic, Tony Schiavone notes that it looks like we've got another match set for Bash at the Beach! <strong>(D)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="9VqkZFJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9VqkZFJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="3WOT8i0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3WOT8i0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> AJ Styles is green, but loaded with potential and Mike Tenay calls him a future Cruiserweight Champion in the making. WCW owner Eric Bischoff then walks into the room and he informs them, in no uncertain terms, that he expects them to be on the same page at the pay per view, just like he expects them to take care of the Steiner Brothers once and for all. Once in the ring, it's Scott Steiner who does all the talking, saying that they're not just gonna sit around waiting to be ambushed, so they want the Natural Born Losers to come down here right now for an ass-whupping! Tony points out that, despite Mike Sanders' best efforts, the former Thrillers have not reunited just yet, but the Steiners doesn't seem to care. After a bit of a wait...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="KZ3THeU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KZ3THeU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="7bFbOrf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7bFbOrf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SvNacxY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SvNacxY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Mike Sanders comes out from the back flanked by Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak--but there is no sign of Chuck Palumbo or Sean O'Haire. The trio stays at the top of the entrance ramp as Sanders gets on the mic and says that Scott doesn't get to make the rules around here, and he doesn't get to choose the field of battle. Scott calls Sanders a scared little b!tch, but Sanders just says that that kind of name calling is exactly what he would expect from an imbecile like Scott Steiner. Tony Schiavone notes that neither Jindrak or Stasiak look particularly happy with Mike Sanders for "poking the bear", and Mike Tenay says that it is probably easy for Sanders to run his mouth--considering that he doesn't have to step into the ring against the Steiner Brothers at Bash at the Beach like the rest of the former Thrillers. Sanders says that they're going to fight this fight on their terms, and then the trio return to the back instead of heading to the ring, much to the Steiner Brothers' frustration. <strong>(C-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="waG19mm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/waG19mm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="57s9isb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/57s9isb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> In the back, "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with Chris Kanyon and his new manager Stacy Keibler. Much like he did against DDP at the Great American Bash, Mike Awesome proves that he can hold his own against the very best WCW has to offer as he goes toe to toe with Nash without backing down. As Nash, Page and Booker T stand tall in the ring, Tony notes that while Booker T was here to even the odds for the Insiders tonight, he won't be able to do that at Bash at the Beach, leading both Tony and Mike to speculate once again as to who the third man might be for Nash and Page. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="9umPviH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9umPviH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> It is almost main event time and "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett comes down to the ring, but apparently the World Champion has something on his mind first as he grabs a mic. Jarrett says that his reign as champion is only just getting started and that he's gonna go down in history as the greatest WCW World Heavyweight Champion of all time! "So Booker T...sit down, shut up, and watch how it's done! Choke on that, slapnut!" <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="9umPviH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9umPviH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="xeqPtl1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xeqPtl1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Dustin Rhodes has had a run of tough luck lately but, as Mike Tenay points out at the start of this one, how quickly could Dustin turn that around with a win here against the World Champion? Tony Schiavone agrees, calling it a huge opportunity for Dustin Rhodes, but also close to a must-win match for Jarrett, even if it is a non-title match, due to Dustin's poor form as of late. Dustin falls victim to some cheap tactics by the World Champion early on as Jarrett repeatedly jams his thumb into Dustin's eyes to give himself an unfair but effective advantage. Jarrett dominates a good portion of this match, but Dustin shows some fire--and quite a bit of potential--as he starts fighting back with some big punches before catching Jarrett with a quick scoop powerslam, which scores him a two count.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="5crDQaK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5crDQaK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> But that is when Crowbar appears at ringside, once again seemingly stalking Dustin Rhodes. Crowbar lingers at ringside for a few moments, and then he sees his opportunity to jump up on the apron and take a swing at Dustin. Their job done, Crowbar and Daffney return to the back while Jarrett covers Rhodes and yells for the referee to make the count, which he does to the tune of 1...2...3!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jeff Jarrett defeated Dustin Rhodes at 10.50 by pinfall after hitting Rhodes with a guitar (B-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The World Champion picks up the win but not without controversy, and Tony and Mike once again wonder why Crowbar is targeting Dustin Rhodes the way he is. They quickly change the subject to the World Champion, admitting that Jarrett was smart to take advantage of the situation--if, indeed, he didn't actually set it all up, which neither of them would put past him or Eric Bischoff.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="O6ChwMw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6ChwMw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The crowd suddenly comes to life with cheers as Booker T runs down to the ring, apparently none too happy about Jarrett's words to him earlier. Jarrett, however, wants no part of Booker T and he is long gone by the time Booker gets to the ring, leaving Booker standing all alone in the ring as Nitro comes to an end. <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <strong>Final Show Rating: B</strong></p><p><strong> TV Rating: 1.00</strong></p><p><strong> This show increased popularity in 10 regions</strong></p>

Once in the ring, Bischoff officially announces the main event as "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett will team up with Buff Bagwell to take on Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page. Bischoff says that he was inclined to give the champion the night off, but being the true champion that he is, Jeff insisted on stepping into the ring tonight to give Booker T a preview of Bash at the Beach. Bischoff then moves on to the Insiders' supposed "third man", saying that he is calling their bluff right now because he doesn't believe that they have a third man. If they did, then where was he last week? Where is he this week? Bischoff says he is nowhere to be found because he is nothing more than a figment of the Insiders' imaginations. And even if, by some small miracle, Nash and Page actually do manage to find a third man before Sunday night...well, then it's not even going to matter in the end because "The Total Package", "Buff Daddy", and Mike Awesome are going to beat them up and down this very ring! <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="O9mmnFa.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O9mmnFa.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Following Eric Bischoff's opening promo, we cut to the back where "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan makes a surprise appearance here on Nitro as he walks through the backstage area. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="t5bgsE2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/t5bgsE2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="GQpaxEc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GQpaxEc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Apparently, "Hacksaw" is looking for someone and he stops "The Cat" and Miss Jones and ask them if they have seen "those two little asian guys" around here. Tony notes that These two men will go at it this Sunday night at Bash at the Beach for the WCW United States Championship, but Mike Tenay wonders just what kind of damage Storm did to Rey Misterio Jr.'s knee last week, given the fact that Rey is still limping, and what impact will that have on the US Title match this Sunday? <strong>(C-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="O6ChwMw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6ChwMw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qc8WHPD.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qc8WHPD.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Mean" Gene Okerlund is backstage with Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page, who will step into the ring in a few short minutes to face Jeff Jarrett and Buff Bagwell. <p>Jim Duggan with the Dragons is... definitely a change. Overall a pretty solid go-home Nitro, as all the important stories continue on to a potentially epic conclusion at Bash at the Beach. BUT WHO'S THE THIRD MAN?!?</p><p> </p><p>

Booker T - <em>Two years in a row, Booker picks up the gold!</em></p><p>

Insiders/??? - <em>This will be a good night for those who aren't Chosen.</em></p><p>

Steiner Brothers - <em>I don't figure O'Haire and Palumbo will stick to the cause, leaving their "partners" out to dry as meat for the Steiners to pick off of their bones.</em></p><p>

Rey Misterio Jr - <em>Storm is the clearly set up favorite going into this one, but Rey as the plucky underdog is always his best story. Rey picks up the win with some sort of acrobatical roll up.</em></p><p>

Disco Inferno - <em>This seems way too set up for either the heels to turn against one another or Chavo to take the gold, so I'll go with Disco to gain the belt through some oddball subterfuge.</em></p><p>

Week 1, July, 2001

Live from Tulsa Convention Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Attendance: 7.111 (sellout!)

Bash at the Beach kicks off with a short video that hypes the major matches that are set to take place tonight, putting most of the focus on the WCW World Heavyweight Championship title match between "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett and Booker T, as well as the six man tag team match pitting the Insiders, and a mystery partner, against the WCW Tag Team Champions, Totally Buff, and Mike Awesome. Following the brief video we join Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay at the announce table as Tony introduces the show and welcomes everyone to what promises to be a historic night in the history of World Championship Wrestling. Mike Tenay hypes up the fact that all four Championships will be defended tonight, including of course the World Championship, and then he poses the question which he claims has been on everyone's mind for the past couple of weeks; who is the third man who will team up with Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page here tonight? Tony then sends us down to ringside for our opening contest here at Bash at the Beach! (B)

WCW United States Championship

We kick things off in a big way with the first of four Championship matches here tonight as Rey Misterio Jr. defends the WCW United States Championship against Lance Storm. The story of this match becomes clear from the get-go as Storm wastes no time whatsoever in zeroing in on the injured knee of the Champion, taking full advantage of the damage he has inflicted over the past couple of weeks. Storm applies a variety of submissions holds as he pulls and stretches Rey's leg and knee in the most painful of ways. Mike Tenay calls Storm a master in the ring who is capable of coming up with game plan and then carrying it out to perfection. But Rey is the Champion for a reason and he shows his heart of a champion here as he continiously fights back through no small amount of pain, but every time Rey looks like he is finally building some momentum, Storm goes right back to the knee and reasserts his dominance of the match. Despite controlling the majority of the match, however, Storm can't put Rey away and as the minutes go by the challenger becomes more and more frustrated, even arguing with the referee over the speed of his count on more than one occasion. Finally, Storm's frustration leads him to make his first mistake of the match as he charges into the corner, looking to score with a clothesline, but Rey gets his feet up and Storm charges directly into a pair of boots! A limping Rey Misterio Jr. follows up with some hard kicks to the back of Storm's leg, each kick causing Rey himself no small amount of pain, but the Champion fights through it as he keeps on the attack, driving Storm head-first into the mat with a tornado DDT! Rey hits a pair of arm drag takedowns, a headscissor takedown, and then he catches Storm in a quick roll up and...1...2...NO! Storm is just barely able to kick out in time. Storm is quickly back on his feet but Rey is quicker and he takes Storm down with a bulldog. Rey then positions himself on the apron of the ring as he waits for Storm to get back to his feet, and when he does...Rey springboards off the top rope, looking perhaps to connect with his hurricanrana....but Storm moves out of the way! Rey lands on his feet, but the impact causes his injured knee to buckle as Rey grimaces in pain. Taking advantage, Storm blasts Rey with a superkick and then he applies the Canadian Maple Leaf in the center of the ring! Rey's already injured knee is taking even more damage here, but Rey is still trying to make it to the ropes. He is almost there...but then Storm pulls him back to the center of the ring and adds even more pressure! Despite a courageous effort from the wounded Champion, Rey finally has no choice left but to submit and we have a NEW WCW United States Champion!

Lance Storm defeated Rey Misterio Jr. at 17.15 by submission with the Canadian Maple Leaf. Lance Storm wins the WCW United States Championship (B-)

As Lance Storm celebrates his US Title victory, Tony and Mike both put over the effort of Rey Misterio Jr., who fought through pain and injury here tonight in a valiant title defense, but who ultimately came up just short. Mike Tenay wonders if the outcome of the match would have been different had Rey's knee not been injured, and Tony adds that he believes that Rey should receive a rematch once his knee has fully healed up.

The Mamalukes have been on a roll lately and they are looking to continue that here tonight at Bash at the Beach as they take on 3-Count in tag team action. This is a standard tag team match kind of deal as Moore and Karagias manage to isolate Big Vito, making use of frequent tags to keep each other fresh and to utilize as many double team maneuvers as possible. A miscommunication ends up costing 3-Count, however, as Evan Karagias accidentally dropkicks his own partner out of the ring, allowing Vito to make the tag to Johnny The Bull. The Bull hits a couple of big power moves on Karagias, and then Vito comes back in and the Mamalukes hit their

catching hip toss into a sky lift slam double team finisher to pick up another win.

The Mamalukes defeated 3-Count at 7.36 by pinfall when Johnny The Bull pinned Evan Karagias following a double team sky lift slam (D)

Chris Kanyon and Stacy Keibler make their way to the ring, much to the surprise of both Tony and Mike as Kanyon is not scheduled to compete here tonight. Once in the ring, Stacy gets on the mic and tells everyone to stand up and give a proper welcome to the next big thing in professional wrestling today; Chris Kanyon! The crowd boos and Kanyon gets on the mic and says that it is just like these Oklahoma rednecks to boo the greatness that currently stands before them, but it's only because they know that no matter how hard they try they will never come anywhere close to being half as great as they are! Kanyon says that he is indeed the next big thing and the hottest up-and-coming wrestler in the business today, and yet he is not even booked to compete tonight? Stacy shakes her head, a disapproving look on her face, and Kanyon says that it's only a matter of time before he's standing at the top of the mountain, and when he does...you can be damned sure that he'll take the time to look down on all the little people of Oklahoma who booed him here tonight, and he''l say; "I told you so!". The crowd boos, and Kanyon is about to continue his promo, but then...

"I'M THE GREATEST!!!"

t5bgsE2.jpgGQpaxEc.jpg

Kanyon is interrupted as "The Cat" Ernest Miller's music hits and "The Cat" and Miss Jones make their way out from the back. "The Cat" tells Kanyon to please shut the hell up because nobody wants to listen him him run his mouth! He says that normally he would tell Kanyon to go call his mama, but she probably wouldn't even pick up the damn phone! "The Cat" says that instead of doing that, he's decided to take care of this himself. "The Cat" then issues a challenge to Kanyon and Stacy; the two of them against "The Cat" and Miss Jones...in a dance off! Stacy accepts the challenge on her and Kanyon's behalf, and "The Cat" tells the guys in the back to hit his music! "The Cat", Miss Jones, and Stacy Keibler all start dancing, while Kanyon just stares at them. "The Cat" then informs Kanyon that if he doesn't dance, then their team loses. For a moment Kanyon actually looks like he's about to bust a move, but then he suddenly and viciously attacks "The Cat" instead, beating him down and then dropping him with the Kanyon Kutter! Kanyon and Stacy then leave the ring as Miss Jones checks on "The Cat", who is down and out in the ring. (C-)

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

TqDQ0Kz.jpgw/YJdjdt3.jpgvs.3WOT8i0.jpgvs.yjZhkPT.jpg

Much like the United States Championship title match earlier, the story of the Cruiserweight Championship title match becomes apparent early on as Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Disco Inferno join forces against the Champion, turning what should have been a three way dance into a two on one handicap match for all intents and purposes. It is effective as well as Chavo and Disco slowly but surely wear Kidman down. Torrie Wilson offers some encouragement for the Champion and rallies the crowd behind him, but every time Kidman tries to fight back the numbers game catches up to him almost immediately. Everything changes, however, when Chavo tries to cover Kidman and the pinfall attempt is broken up by Disco Inferno. Chavo and Disco exchange words as Tony and Mike talk about how teamwork is all well and good, but only one man can walk away with the title here tonight. Chavo then appears to step aside and he motions for Disco to pin the champion, but, of course, as soon as Disco's back is turned, Chavo rolls him up from behind and almost steals a victory, but Disco kicks out. From here this match is finally the three way dance it was supposed to be and all three men come close to picking up the win, each of them securing a near-fall, but in the end it is the Champion who retains his title as he dropkicks Disco Inferno out of the ring, then follows up with a BK Bomb on Chavo Guerrero Jr., before finally going up top and hitting the Shooting Star Press to overcome the odds and retain the Cruiserweight Championship.

Billy Kidman defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Disco Inferno at 11.28 by pinfall when Kidman pinned Chavo following a Shooting Star Press. Billy Kidman retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (C+)

Ever since making his return to WCW, Crowbar has been targeting Dustin Rhodes for reasons unknown and tonight Rhodes finally gets the chance to meet his attacker face to face in the ring. This is a very physical match as Crowbar seems hell-bent on hurting Dustin Rhodes, and Dustin is looking for some retribution of his own. The match soon spills to the outside as Crowbar and Dustin fight all around the ring, with Tony throwing in the mandatory comment about how both men have to be careful not to be disqualified. Dustin is able to take control during this portion of the match, whipping Crowbar back-first in the guard rail and hitting a snap suplex on the hard floor! Rhodes rolls Crowbar back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Crowbar shows his toughness as he is able to kick out. Dustin whips Crowbar against the ropes and hits snap powerslam for another two count, and then Crowbar wisely rolls out of the ring. Dustin follows, but Daffney suddenly gets involved in the match as she jumps on Dustin's back and tries to claw at his eyes. Dustin is able to pry her off, however, and the referee does not disqualify Crowbar, even though he easily could have. Daffney's involvement allows Crowbar some time to recover, however, and he drives Dustin back-first into the side of the ring and quickly rolls him back into the ring. Crowbar tries to take advantage, but Dustin is back on his feet and meets him with a pair of clotheslines and a running bulldog. Crowbar again rolls out of the ring and, after a brief conversation with Daffney, Crowbar points at Dustin and tells him that he'll get what's coming to him as soon as "He" gets here...and then Crowbar and Daffney turn and walk away, leaving a confused Dustin Rhodes standing in the ring as the referee completes the ten count to bring about the end of this one.

Dustin Rhodes defeated Crowbar at 11.46 by countout when Crowbar walked out on the match ©

Dustin Rhodes has picked up the win, albeit not quite the way he would have wanted it, and Tony and Mike both wonder what Crowbar could possibly have meant by "when he arrives". Who is "he"?

YiAV5xv.jpgqc8WHPD.jpg

The Wolfpac music hits, bringing The Insiders out from the back as Tony and Mike talk about the fact that all of the suspense is about to be over because we are just moments away from finding out who the Insiders' third man is here tonight. Nash and Page take their time as they slowly walk to the ring, and once in the ring, Nash gets on the mic and announces to the people of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and everyone watching at home, that Big Sexy is in da house! Nash then hands the mic to Diamond Dallas Page, who says that it's time for them to shock the world and reveal who their third man is here tonight. Page says that his man needs no introduction, so without further ado...say hello to the third man....

TTtujDA.jpg

"Macho Man" Randy Savage comes out from the back to a HUGE reaction from the sold out arena! Tony and Mike are both shocked to see the "Macho Man", claiming that nobody would ever have thought that Savage would be the third man, least of all Totally Buff and Mike Awesome. Savage joins Nash and DDP in the ring and the crowd is going crazy as the "Macho Man" is back in World Championship Wrestling here at Bash at the Beach! (A)

YiAV5xv.jpgqc8WHPD.jpgTTtujDA.jpgvs.epiwJ9r.jpgtjPJopW.jpgGc4aCsx.jpg

The crowd is buzzing about the return of "Macho Man" Randy Savage and as the match slowly gets under way with DDP and Buff Bagwell squaring off in the ring, Tony talks about the fact that it is a rare situation where you can talk about the WCW Tag Team Champions being the underdogs, but that may indeed be the case here tonight with the return of the "Macho Man". Mike Tenay agrees, saying that nobody expected Savage to show up here tonight and that that has to have come as a surprise to the Tag Team Champions and Mike Awesome. Tony and Mike do seem to be correct as Bagwell, Luger, and Awesome struggle early on to get the upper hand, and they soon find themselves regrouping outside the ring. Mike Awesome wants the tag in and "Buff Daddy" is more than happy to oblige, but despite Awesome's issues with Diamond Dallas Page, it is Randy Savage that Awesome points to. Page tags Savage into the match for the first time to a great reaction from the crowd, and then Savage and Awesome go at it in the ring with Savage showing absolutely no signs of rust as he unloads on Awesome with a series of jabs, an atomic drop, and a clothesline that finally takes Awesome off his feet! Savage tags DDP back in, but a cheap shot from behind by "The Total Package" turns the match in their favor as they start to wear DDP down while keeping him far away from his allies. Their dominance leads to overconfidence, however, as Buff Bagwell takes too much time posing, which allows Page to fight his way back into the match and make the hot tag to "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash! Nash drops both Bagwell and Luger with big boots, and then catches Mike Awesome with a sidewalk slam! Nash then rolls Awesome out of the ring, but as he turns around he does so right into a running forearm smash by Lex Luger. Now it is Nash's turn to be isolated as Luger and Bagwell use every trick in the book to allow each other, and Mike Awesome, to get as many cheap shots in as possible in their corner, much to the frustration of both DDP and the "Macho Man". Trapped in the corner, Nash suddenly fires off some big time right hand shots, and a few stiff elbows as well, fighting his way out of the corner and making the tag to "Macho Man" Randy Savage! Savage enters the ring and starts cleaning house, but Mike Awesome catches him from behind with some brutal shots to the back. As Awesome whips Savage into the ropes, DDP is able to make the blind tag, but he can't stop Awesome from drilling Savage with a powerslam. Awesome then calls for the Awesome Bomb, but DDP spins him around and...DIAMOND CUTTER! As Nash and Luger are brawling outside the ring, DDP covers Mike Awesome and 1...2...Buff Bagwell is almost able to break up the pin, but Randy Savage is able to cut him off just before he gets there...3!!!

Diamond Dallas Page, Kevin Nash and Randy Savage defeated Mike Awesome, Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger at 15.02 by pinfall when DDP pinned Mike Awesome following a Diamond Cutter (B)

Diamond Dallas Page, Kevin Nash and "Macho Man" Randy Savage stand tall in the ring as Tony and Mike note that Savage has not only returned to WCW in grand fashion, he has also returned to be victorious. We then get one final shot of the veteran trio before we cut backstage."

Z1DlA0N.jpg9umPviH.jpg

In the back, "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett, and Gene asks him about his upcoming World Title defense against Booker T. Jarrett says that Booker T is sadly mistaken if he thinks he's just gonna waltz back in and take the World Title away from "The Chosen One". Jarrett reminds Booker that he's the one with all the stroke around here and that WCW is now the domain of The Chosen Ones. Jarrett says that if Booker T thinks that the impossible is possible tonight after seeing what just happened in the ring with Randy Savage, he'd better think again because what just happened with Randy Savage is the exception that proves the rule, and the rule is that The Chosen Ones reign supreme in WCW! Jarrett says that after tonight, Booker T will go all the way to the back of the line of challengers after the World Champion pins him in the middle of the ring 1...2...3! (C+)

DeMllKw.jpgvs.xwUJi96.jpgw/O0I3vYs.jpg

This one is very much a contrast in styles as "Sugar" Shane Helms looks to quicken the pace at every opportunity, while Big Smooth looks to do the exact opposite. It does, however, very quickly become apparent that Big Smooth isn't so much looking to win the match as he is looking to hurt Helms as much as possible, while Cash shouts instructions from ringside. Helms is very successful at keeping the pace high and making Smooth chase him--that is until Cash grabs Helms' leg and Big Smooth runs over Helms with a huge clothesline. Smooth then tosses Helms into the corner and starts pummeling him, completely ignoring the referee's count and warnings, and eventually getting himself disqualified in the process.

Shane Helms defeated Big Smooth at 5.42 by disqualification (D+)

Shane Helms has officially won the match but that minor technicality doesn't seem to bother Cash and Smooth much as Smooth continues to punish Helms in the corner, with Cash encouraging him to keep it up. The referee can't do much to separate them on his own, so he calls for help from the back. Several more referees then hit the ring and they are finally able to get Big Smooth off Helms, but even though Helms won the match, it is Cash who walks away looking like the victor here tonight. "Mean" Gene Okerlund is backstage again and this time he is with the challenger in tonight's World Heavyweight Championship bout, Booker T. Gene asks Booker about the match, and Booker says that he heard what Jarrett said earlier tonight and he's dead wrong. Booker reminds Jarrett that he never lost the title, that he was stripped of it just like all the other champions, and that he didn't get a chance to reclaim the title until now due to injury. Booker says that he knows Bischoff didn't like giving him this opportunity and he doesn't plan to waste it. Booker says that he's walking out of here tonight as the NEW WCW World Heavyweight Champion! (C+)

The odds seem to be stacked against the Steiner Brothers in this one, but as Tony and Mike discuss early on, there hasn't exactly been any kind of unity on the part of the former Thrillers, and they wonder if that will continue here tonight or if they will get on the same page like Mike Sanders wants them to. Things get off to a good start for the former Thrillers as a Mike Sanders distraction allows Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak to get the jump on "The Dog Faced Gremlin" allow their team to take control of the match. Their control doesn't last long, however, as both Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo refuse to tag into the match. Stasiak argues with them, and Rick Steiner uses the opportunity to drop Stasiak with a release german suplex. Rick almost makes it to his brother, but he is cut off by Mark Jindrak at the very last moment. It is far from unity that reigns among the former Thrillers, however, as Mike Sanders is arguing with both O'Haire and Palumbo outside the ring--an argument that ends with O'Haire and Palumbo telling Sanders to go bleep himself and then the duo walks off, turning a four on two handicap match into a regular tag team match. Tony Schiavone notes that Eric Bischoff can't be too happy about this, and things go from bad to worse as Rick makes the tag to his brother Scott, and "Big Poppa Pump" enters the ring in a foul mood as he drops Stasiak and Jindrak with various suplexes right and left. Mike Sanders even enters the ring at one point, only to get dropped with a belly to belly suplex as well! Rick Steiner is back in the ring and he takes care of Mark Jindrak, while Scott locks Stasiak in the Steiner Recliner in the middle of the ring and this one is over!

The Steiner Brothers defeated Shawn Stasiak, Mark Jindrak, Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo at 13.02 by submission when Scott forced Stasiak to submit to the Steiner Recliner (B-)

Following the Steiner Brothers big win, we cut to the announce table where Tony and Mike hype up the fact that the World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line next as "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett defends against the number one contender, Booker T. They talk about what a huge night it has been already with the United States Championship changing hands, the Steiner Brothers beating the odds and winning the handicap match, and, of course, the surprise return of "Macho Man" Randy Savage. But the best is yet to come as the WCW World Heavyweight Championship is on the line next! (C+)

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

The World Champion is accompanied to the ring by the owner of WCW, Eric Bischoff, just in case anyone was silly enough to think that this one was going to be a straight up fair fight on a level playing field for the challenger. Booker doesn't seem fazed by Bischoff's presence though, and Tony speculates that Booker probably expected something like this to happen here tonight. The match starts off slowly with both men sort of feeling each other out, which Mike Tenay calls great strategy on the part of both the Champion and the Challenger. After an even opening to the match, Booker T gets the upper hand by hitting a series of perfectly placed kicks, finishing off the attack with a spinning heel kick that sends the Champion all the way out of the ring. Booker T follows immediately, not allowing Jarrett any time to recover, but Eric Bischoff steps in between Jarrett and Booker and warns Booker of what will happen if he puts his hands on the boss. The distraction and pause in the action allows the Champion time to recover, and he grabs Booker by the tights and pulls him chest-first into the guard rail. Jarrett and Bischoff are all smiles as Jarrett points to his temple, telling the fans how smart he is, and then Jarrett rolls Booker back into the ring. Jarrett covers, but Booker easily kicks out, prompting Tony to note that it's going to take a lot more than that to pin a man like Booker T. Jarrett delivers a few kicks, drops an elbow, and then he goes to apply the Figure Four, but Booker T is able to reverse it into a small package for a two count. Both men are back to their feet at the same time, but Booker beats Jarrett to the punch, hitting one after another which rocks the Champion. Booker whips Jarrett into the ropes and hits a big time spinebuster. Booker then whips Jarrett into the ropes again, leapfrogs over him, and catches him coming off the ropes again with a dropkick! Booker covers, but Jarrett kicks out after two and then quickly rolls out of the ring as Bischoff signals for a time-out. There are no time-outs in wrestling, however, and Booker T has no intention of giving Jarrett time to regroup as he follows after Jarrett and gets him back in the ring, ignoring Bischoff's attempts to distract him again.

Back in the ring, Booker stalks Jarrett and when the Champion gets back to his feet, Booker takes him back off his feet again with a Harlem Sidekick for another two count. Mike Tenay notes that Booker has a small handful of near-falls on the Champion now, noting that "The Chosen One" is in trouble here. Booker whips Jarrett into the corner, but Jarrett is able to move out of the way when Booker follows in after him, looking for a clothesline, and Booker collides with the turnbuckle chest-first. Booker staggers backwards out of the corner and right into a russian leg sweep which finally allows the Champion to catch his breath. Jarrett follows up with a swinging neckbreaker, and then applies a sleeper hold in the center of the ring. Bischoff is cheering Jarrett on from ringside, even going so far as to tell the referee that Booker T said he submitted, even though he clearly didn't. The crowd rallies behind the Challenge and slowly Booker T is able to get back to his feet, while Jarrett desperately tries to keep the sleeper hold locked in. Booker T fires off a couple of elbows, the third one finally causing Jarrett to break the sleeper, and Booker bounces himself off the ropes looking for another Harlem Sidekick, but Jarrett avoids it and drops Booker with a DDT! Jarrett covers, but Booker is able to kick out at two and a half! Jarrett argues the count with the referee, but the referee maintains that it was a two count only. Jarrett is able to shake off his frustration and, with a smile on his face, he pulls out the Jeff Jarrett strut to nothing but boos from the crowd. Bischoff plugs his ears with his fingers, pretending not to hear them, and "The Chosen One" goes back on the attack in the ring as he pulls Booker back to his feet...but Booker catches Jarrett by surprise with a kick to the gut and....AXE KICK!!! Booker T covers the Champion and...

....NOO!!!

Jarrett is able to kick out at the last possible moment, just barely keeping his title reign going for the time being. Both men are down in the ring as the toll the match has taken is starting to show. Bischoff looks concerned at ringside and Tony wonders what Bischoff would do if his Chosen Champion were to lose the title here tonight. Both men are slow to get up, but when they do they do it at roughly the same time and they meet in the center of the ring where they start trading punches. Jarrett tries to hold his own against Booker, but there is far bite to Booker's punches and he soon gains the upper hand, driving Jarrett back against the ropes, whipping him across the ring, and connecting with his Harlem Sidekick this time! Booker pulls out the spin-a-roonie to get back to his feet and the crowd senses that the end could be near as lines up for the Bookend...but Eric Bischoff grabs Booker's leg from outside the ring to keep that from happening. Booker is able to free himself, but then he is blasted from behind by Jarrett, who quickly follows up by hitting The Stroke!!! An exhausted Jarrett covers Booker and...

....3--NOO!!!!

Somehow, some way, Booker T is able to get his shoulder up before the three count. The crowd loves it, but both Jarrett and Bischoff are in total disbelief. Now livid, Eric Bischoff enters the ring and gets in the referees face, telling him that it was a three count and ordering him to ring the bell. Surprisingly, the referee refuses, and Bischoff drops him with a martial arts kick! With the referee down, Jarrett reaches into his bag of tricks, so to speak, as he looks under the ring and finds...one of his guitars, of course. Jarrett re-enters the ring, guitar in hand, and when Booker gets back to his feet..."The Chosen One" absolutely destroys the guitar by smashing it over Booker's head! While Jarrett does this, Bischoff takes the shirt off the unconscious referee and puts it on himself, then drops to the mat and makes a quick three count that sees "The Chosen One" retain his title in the cheapest of ways.

Jeff Jarrett defeated Booker T at 18.23 by pinfall following a guitar shot. Jeff Jarrett retains the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (B-)

Eric Bischoff then retrieves the WCW World Heavyweight Championship title belt and hands it to "The Chosen One", and Bash at the Beach comes to an end with Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff standing tall in the ring.

So, Bash at the Beach is finally up. It took a little longer to get it posted than I'd hoped, but I'm quite happy with the result. I'll admit that I'm a bit disappointed with the overall rating of the show. I really liked this card and had high hopes for it, but maybe I overestimated it as bit. It didn't exactly help matters that Jarrett and Booker ended up having poor chemistry, which meant that the main event didn't quite deliver what I'd hoped.

Anyway, the show is up and I'd love to hear what you all think of it once you've read it.
