ROH Manhattan Mayhem 2020

Ring of Honor Presents: Manhattan Mayhem 2020

Live from the world-famous Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York

Announcers: Rob Naylor, AJ Kirsch and Ian Riccaboni ringside

Ring of Honor Tag Titles

The Top Guys {C} vs. The Motor City Machine Guns

tGYDCin.jpgNkj7ttP.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgxudhQ89.jpgodACYrQ.jpg

What a way to kick this show off, getting the fans on their feet from the get go, two of the best tag teams in the world squaring off in a bout that is bound to be on the 2020 Year-End Review. Great back and forth action here that saw The Top Guys catch Chris Sabin with the Shatter Machine to retain the titles in a four-star bout.

The Top Guys retained the ROH Tag Titles over the Motor City Machine Guns (****).

Backstage we see Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham having just watched the previous match on a monitor address the cameraman directly saying they promise to make a mark moving forward.

ROH Television Title

Nick Aldis {C} vs. "Swipe Right" Joe Keys

Nick Aldis made quick work of the 2020 Top Prospect as Keys seemed more interested in updating his profiles and swiping right on some ladies in the front row than he was at the task on hand. Match itself wasn't bad, but was quick, as Aldis locked the King's Lynn Cloverleaf in for the submission victory.

Nick Aldis retained the ROH Television Title against Joe Keys (**3/4).

We get a pre-taped promo with Jay and Mark Briscoe discussing Brotherhood, and Mark promising to stand by his brothers side tonight against Low-Ki.

ROH Six-Man Titles

Team Filthy {C} vs. The Workhorsemen

Interesting bout here with a unique finish that sets up a totally new path. Things in this one got out of hand with all six men in the ring and a variety of near misses. Eventually all six men started throwing fists and things got utterly out of hand with all six men winding up outside the ring. Junior Official Frank Dumeng lost all control and wound up throwing the bout out, declaring it a double DQ.

Team Filthy and The Workhorsemen went to Double DQ due to chaos (** 3/4).

Backstage, Vincent talks about the path that the Horror Kings have taken and how tonight they will become the #1 Contenders.

ROH Tag Titles #1 Contendership Bout

The End vs. The Kingdom of Truth vs. The Horror Kings

Another average bout with some high spots but overall a boring bout. Brody King flipped out of the ring onto The End creating a mass of humanity on the ground and allowing his partner Vincent to focus on his former ally Matt Taven and his partner Mike Bennett. Vincent did just that hitting Matt Taven with a Hammerlock DDT for the victory.

The Horror Kings secure the #1 Contendership for the ROH Tag Titles (** 3/4).

Backstage "Overkill" Mark Haskins and his wife Vicky tell Bobby Cruise that today begins the era of Overkill and Flip Gordon will learn the hard way... suddenly the cameraman hears something and takes off running down the hall where he comes up Kenny King and Shane Taylor ruthlessly beating down their partner Brian Myers. Taylor lifts Myers and plants him through the catering table. Kenny King stands above him and says that Myers only held them back... now they are heading to the VIP.

Flip Gordon vs. Mark Haskins

Despite Haskins' best efforts and jump starting his time in ROH, Flip Gordon took home the win in this one. Flip is an athletic and fun competitor but seems a bit lost in the shuffle.

Flip Gordon defeated Mark Haskins (**1/2).

We get a video package highlighting the conflict between Jeff Cobb and PJ Black, it mentions that Cobb lost his right to challenge for any title for the next six months and his had a bone to pick ever since then.

Jeff Cobb vs. PJ Black

Getting us back on track after a series of bouts that disappointed, Cobb and Black went toe-to-toe and put on a fun bout that really showcased both the Darewolf's unique and innovative offense and Cobb's sheer strength and brutally. Black countered a number of suplex attempts with backflips out and actually had Cobb on the ropes for much of the match. Black went up top for a crossbody but was caught by Cobb how immediately swung him around on a Tour of the Islands and the Hawaiian Bad Boy took home the victory.

Jeff Cobb defeated PJ Black via Tour of the Islands (***).

Low-Ki was seen getting ready in the back for his title shot, the cameraman stayed with his as he made his way through the curtain and out onto the stage... The Main Event is next.

ROH World Title

Jay Briscoe {C} vs. Low-Ki

l8MTPbW.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgxj4swgH.jpg

Jay and his brother Mark made their way out and were ready for war and this one didn't disappoint. This was a bruising and brutal bout as it was made out to be. To his credit, Mark Briscoe didn't once get involved, instead joining the announce table and in this process telling Rob Naylor to get lost and "Go play in traffic or something." Back in the ring this ones pace began to pick up about 10 minutes in with both men hitting a number of signature moves.

The finish to this bout was a great sequence and, like the opener is destined to be featured on the year-end show. Low-Ki hooked Jay Briscoe and delivered a Ki Krusher firmly in the middle of the ring, knowing this might not be enough to put the champ away he went to the top rope and looked for the Warriors Way but Briscoe rolled away and caught his leg as he landed, locking in a Calf Killer in the middle of the ring. But Low-Ki managed to work his way free with his exceptionally strong legs and countered into a Dragon Clutch but wound up too close to the ropes and was forced to break the hold... He shoved Jay Briscoe into the corner and ran at him with the Tidal Crush, only to be met mid-air by Briscoe's Lariat. Briscoe collapsed towards the prone Low-Ki and forced him to his feet. He went to the well and came out with the Crucible (a Sitout Suplex Slam) he hadn't used much in ROH, Low-Ki was planted and the champ retained.

Jay Briscoe defeated Low-Ki to retain the ROH World Title (****)

Overall Show Rating: **** (Main Event and Opener carried the day)

ROH TV End of February, Early March 2020, leading into ROH Anniversary

Coming off of a successful Manhattan Mayhem we had three weeks of television to build into the 18th Anniversary pay-per-view!

ROH TV February Week 4, 2020

We kicked it off with Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeating the Mexablood team of Flamita and Bandido in a great opener. This was the best Bandido has looked in ROH and Flamita was fun addition as well, but in the end Lethal and Gresham are the team on the rise.

Backstage we see Bobby Cruise standing in front of a case draped in red velvet. The Workhorsemen and Team Filthy join him... Cruise says that as a result of the mayhem at Manhattan... Mayhem. ROH officials have made a unique decision. Effective immediately the Six-Man titles are on hiatus... Before Tom Lawlor and crew can argue, Bobby Cruise rips the velvet away revealing...

6aiiqlN.jpg

The Ring of Honor Pure Title... and the Pure title has been reinstated. At Anniversary you six men will do battle, under the revised and renewed "Pure Wrestling" rules and the winner will be crowned the new Ring of Honor Pure Champion.

Backstage, Jeff Cobb violently assaults Mark Briscoe. He screams that no one can stop him, leaving him bloodied. The announcers mention that Jay Briscoe is in Japan this week and is questionable to arrive back in town in time before next week.

Back in the ring The Horror Kings warm-up for their title shot at Anniversary by easily defeating Ryan Nova and Eli Isom. Post-match they cut a promo on the Top Guys and promise to leaving Sin City with a victory one way or another...

Nick Aldis defended his TV title against Lochy Hendricks in an easy defense, post-bout Dalton Castle makes his way out and ask for an opportunity at Anniversary. Aldis seems to confirm it is on.

In the main event, an utter dud, Shane Taylor firmly defeated Brian Myers after Kenny King clocked Brian Myers with a bottle of champagne while Taylor had the officials back turned. As the show went off the air, King proclaimed see you in Vegas "Prince, the King is HERE".

Joe Hendry, Dalton Castle and Anthony Greene defeated Rhett Titus, Cody Hall and Royce Isaacs

The Dawgs defeated Coast 2 Coast

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, March Week 1, 2020

Welcome to March, Flamita and Bandido team again in the opener and once again come up short as The End (Odinson and Hammerstone) defeated them in another solid opener.

Backstage, The Kingdom of Truth is looking to expand its ranks. Bennett, Taven and Truth approach Flip Gordon in the back but he just seems to blow them off, Mark Haskins walks up and says "he's a loser anyhow" but The Kingdom of Truth seem to blow him off and walk off the screen...

Nick Aldis continued his TV title defense tour against other former Top Prospect contenders as he easily dispatched Anthony Greene.

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeated Coast 2 Coast in a bout that was solid. It looked like Shaheem Ali and LSG had Gresham on the ropes, but Ali went for it all instead of taking advantage and Gresham wound up catching him in the Octopus Stretch submission. Post-match, Ali and LSG looked upset, with LSG walking up the ramp before his partner.

Jeff Cobb defeated Mark Briscoe in a great main event. After the bell, Cobb continued to beat down Mark Briscoe, suddenly ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe sprints through the crowd in street clothes, fresh off a plane, to run down and break things up. Jay gets in his face as we go off the air.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, Week 2, March 2020

This weeks show opened with a ten-man tag featuring combatants at Anniversary. The Tag Champions (The Top Guys) teamed with The Workhorsemen to defeated the #1 Contenders for the Tag titles (The Horror Kings) and the "former" six-man champions Team Filthy. We are reminded that the Pure Title is back and Team Filthy and The Workhorsemen will do battle to crown the new champion, with the man getting the win for his team being crowned the champion. Thus bringing into play team dynamics and will they be able to handle if their partner is crowned a single champion... Is it unity or division?!

Dalton Castle is out next for a quick promo and confirmation that he is challenging Nick Aldis at Anniversary for the Television Title.

Flip Gordon dispatched Cody Hall in a bout that saw The Kingdom of Truth watching both men closely from ringside. The Kingdom of Truth tries to slide into the ring to attack Gordon after the bell, but Mark Haskins comes sprinting down with a chair and cleans house... Flip gets up and Haskins smirks and then blasts Gordon with the chair as well... "Overkill" might have a screw or two loose in his head...

Joe Keys got on the winning trail as he defeated Joe Hendry in our penultimate match but cameras didn't catch his celebration as they hurried to the back where they found Jeff Cobb standing over a bloodied Mark Briscoe... Jay Briscoe ran in and he and Cobb exchanged blows with the locker room having to restrain both men... Jay Briscoe screams at Jeff Cobb and says "You may not be able to challenge for a title, but there is nothing saying I can't kick your ass at Anniversary, and I'm a fighting champion, so I'll put this belt on the line, and I'll kick your ass all over Las Vegas, DO NOT MESS WITH DEM BOYZ"

In the main event, Hammerstone scored a pinfall over Jonathan Gresham, in a fatal-four-way to determine the final team entrant in the #1 Contendership Gauntlet that will take place at Anniversary, Shaheem Ali and Bandido were the other two competitors. All four teams will be in the gauntlet at Anniversary.

ROH Tag: The Top Guys {C} vs. The Horror Kings (Brody King and Vinny Marseglia)

ROH Pure: Tom Lawlor/Fred Yehi/Josh Woods vs. JD Drake/Anthony Henry/BJ Whitmer (While this is a six-man bout, only the man who picks up the win will be crowned the new Pure champion, thus, pick the solo winner)

ROH TV: Nick Aldis {C} vs. Dalton Castle

ROH Tag Titles #1 Contendership Gauntlet: Mexabloods (Bandido/Flamita) // Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal // Coast 2 Coast // The End. The End has the advantage and will be the final team; Mexabloods and Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham will have to win three matches to win. Coast 2 Coast would need two consecutive wins.

Grudge Match: Brian Myers vs. Kenny King

Couple unique stipulations here at Anniversary, first the reinstatement of the Pure Title. I actually booked this show back before the actual ROH announced the return of the title. I kinda of dislike the Six-Man titles, though they gave some value to the trios I have, but ultimately I thought this was a unique way to bring the Pure Title back into the picture. As for the tag gauntlet, I've always loved the Wrestle Kingdom gauntlet so what a better way to potentially elevate a team and book a contender for Supercard of Honor.

Speaking of that... We have two more MAJOR talent announcements for Supercard of Honor... So... Here is one of them.... Signed and appearing at Supercard of Honor!

I agree, I am not a fan of the Six-Man titles as well. Jay Briscoe looks like an insane homeless dude in that picture you have of him. The moment I saw it, I started to laugh.

ROH Tag: The Top Guys {C} vs. The Horror Kings (Brody King and Vinny Marseglia)

ROH Pure: Tom Lawlor/Fred Yehi/Josh Woods vs. JD Drake/Anthony Henry/BJ Whitmer

Tom Lawlor is doing some excellent over-the-top heel work in MLW right now and just for that reason and that reason alone I am picking him to win here.

ROH TV: Nick Aldis {C} vs. Dalton Castle

ROH Tag Titles #1 Contendership Gauntlet: Mexabloods (Bandido/Flamita) // Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal // Coast 2 Coast // The End.

I used to love it when NWA/WCW would do gauntlet matches over the course of their weekend shows. Such a great concept. I am going with Lethal and Gresham getting the hard fought victory here.

ROH Anniversary 18

Ring of Honor Presents: Anniversary 18

Live from Sam's Town in Las Vegas, NV

Announcers: Ian Riccaboni, Rob Naylor and AJ Kirsch

Ring of Honor Television Title

"The National Treasure" Nick Aldis {C} vs. Dalton Castle

Kicking off the show with a title defense is always a good plan, kicking off the show with a great title defense is a better one. Nick Aldis and Dalton Castle brought the TV Title some prestige here. The National Treasure and Castle went back and forth before Aldis caught Castle with a stiff right and followed up with a spine buster, huge elbow drop and then the Tormentum for the 1-2-3 and the defense.

Nick Aldis defeated Dalton Castle to retain the ROH Television Title (*** 3/4).

We get a clip highlighting the history of Pure Title, we see highlights of the previous champions: AJ Styles, Doug Williams, John Walters, Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuinness, and Bryan Danielson. We then briefly go over the new ruleset that will be enforced...

1) Each wrestler has three rope breaks to stop submission holds and pinfalls during the match. After a wrestler exhausts his rope breaks, submission and pin attempts under the ropes by the opponent are considered legal.

2) There are no closed-fist punches to the face allowed in a Pure match, only open-handed slaps or chops to the face are allowed. Punches to other parts of the body (save for low blows) are permitted. The first use of a closed fist would get a warning, and the second would cause the wrestler to be penalized a rope break. If he is already out of rope breaks, he would be disqualified.

3) A wrestler is subject to a ten count by the referee if the wrestler goes to the floor and the title will change hands on a disqualification or count-out.

4) All decisions are reviewable by replay and can be overturned by the committee in case the official misses the call in the ring.

Ring of Honor Pure Title

Tom Lawlor/Josh Woods/Fred Yehi vs. BJ Whitmer/JD Drake/Anthony Henry

Couple unique situations here. One this is a six-man bout, meaning your team cannot defeat their own men to claim the title. Secondly, only the wrestler who captures the pinfall or submission will be named the champion so there is an incentive for teams to crumble... With that said this bout was a bit disjointed with a couple flashes of potential turmoil, but in the end both teams stayed loyal. Tom Lawlor and BJ Whitmer had a near fall exchange that saw Lawlor lock a rear naked choke on Whitmer only for Whitmer to get the ropes and use his teams final ropebreak. While Lawlor looked dejected and argued with the official, JD Drake was tagged in and rolled Lawlor up for a quick two count. Lawlor bailed himself out of the ring and in the process tagged Josh Woods in, which proved to be a critical mistake as Woods got cornered and the Workhorsemen showed a business like savvy in tagging each other in and out to take advantage... Ultimately only one could win though and Anthony Henry stood as the champion after planting Woods with the Spinebuster. Whitmer and Drake flew across the ring to clear Lawlor and Yehi to the floor and Henry covered for the win and was crowned the new Pure Champion.

Anthony Henry (and The Workhorsemen) defeated Team Filthy, Anthony Henry becomes the Ring of Honor Pure Champion (**3/4).

As Henry and the Workhorsemen celebrate music reminiscent of the British national anthem hits and Doug Williams walks out to a surprise pop. Williams has a microphone and says his congratulations to Henry, before announcing that at Supercard of Honor he's challenging Henry for the title... and at Past vs Present, he'll be representing the ROH Past as the first-ever two-time Pure Champion.

Gauntlet Match for #1 Contendership of Tag Titles

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham vs. Mexablood (Flamita and Bandido)

The gauntlet match kicked off with a fast-paced and fun bout between these teams. Lethal and Gresham scored the victory with a Lethal Combination on Flamita and immediately stood guard for their next challengers...

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeated Mexablood to advance in the gauntlet (***).

As Lethal and Gresham await the next challengers we get a split-screen with Joe Keys and Lochy Hendricks taunting Joe Hendry in the back... this was a pointless split-screen that really didn't serve a bigger purpose...

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham vs. Coast 2 Coast

It was almost like Lethal and Gresham got stronger as they went as they put on a nearly four-star bout with LSG and Shaheem Ali, who respectively had the best bout of their career. This time it was Gresham catching Ali out to dry and locking in the Octopus Stretch for the submission victory.

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeated Coast 2 Coast to advance in the gauntlet (*** 3/4).

As Coast 2 Coast headed to the back LSG berated Shaheem Ali saying he's the reason they haven't secured any big wins recently... they got to the top of the ramp and LSG suddenly delivered a super kick to the chin of his now former partner, sending him stumbling off the stage as The End made their entrance...

The End vs. Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham

5wIQJMM.jpgIo4LOYQ.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgJNvytgY.jpgsIemKyp.jpg

At this point Jay and Jonathan have been in the ring for nearly 25 minutes, and their opponents, Odinson and Hammerstone are fresh and that showed early on as The End beat Lethal and Gresham down, but ultimately Lethal's experience helped his team recover enough to make this a fight. Hammerstone and Odinson worked Gresham over and had him dead to rights, but Lethal broke-up the pinfall and single-handedly worked his team back into the bout. In the end, this was the turning point and nearly 40 minutes into their climb, Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham came out victorious when Jay Lethal caught Odinson with the Lethal Injection...

Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal won the #1 Contendership for the ROH Tag Title Gauntlet Match defeating The End (*** 3/4)

Backstage, we see The Briscoe's in their locker room, they just finished watching the gauntlet and discussed how the Tag Division of ROH is part of the lifeblood of the company and that it has brought them to where they are as wrestlers now. They turned their attention to the main event tonight, where Jay Briscoe promised to wipe the floor with Jeff Cobb and walk out as the reigning and defending ROH World Champion.

Brian Myers vs. Kenny King

Their friendship was fast and loose, but after a year of clubbing, drinking, and partying, "The Prince of Queens" and the "The King of the Night" found their differences too great to continue working together. King turned on Myers with a Vueve Clique bottle shot across the skull and this bout highlighted this double-cross as the main feature. Kenny King is really a better than advertised worker and that showed here. He captured the victory, hitting the Coronation on Myers and then hitting the club immediately afterward with his personal bouncer, Shane Taylor...

Kenny King defeated Brian Myers (**3/4).

ROH Tag Titles

The Top Guys {C} vs. The Horror Kings

KC McKnight and Steven Walters are a true force to be reckoned with, and this bout with Brody King and Vinny Marseglia was bound to be one that could elevate the Horror Kings to new levels... Vincent (as he likes to be called) and Brody (as he calls his partner) dug deep and went to every trick in the book, but none the less they fell victim to the Shatter Machine as The Top Guys retained.

The Top Guys retained the ROH Tag Titles against the Horror Kings (***1/2).

Next there was a video promo highlighting the "Aerial Assassin" Will Ospreay and some of his latest conquests across the globe... Ospreay announces he'll be at Supercard of Honor, and he'll be facing the recently announced, Amazing Red! What a dream bout!

Main event time, but before we get there we are rushed backstage where Low-Ki is laid out with a mysterious note next to him written in kanji...

ROH World Title

Jay Briscoe {C} vs. Jeff Cobb

l8MTPbW.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgZc5ON97.jpg

Jeff Cobb lost a bout in January that prevented him from challenging for any title until July, but after assaults on Jay Briscoe's brother, Mark, the ROH World Champion, Jay put his title on the line to prove to Cobb that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns. The bad blood in this bout was real and both men went deep into their arsenals to try and take the other down. This one was another solid four-star ROH PPV main event and both men clearly had something to fight for. In the end the finish saw Jay Briscoe managed to score the hard-fought victory as he managed to lift Cobb and hit the Jay Driller for the 1-2-3.

Jay Briscoe defeated Jeff Cobb via Jay Driller to retain the ROH World Title (****).

ROH TV March 2020

ROH TV Week 3, March 2020

Fresh off Anniversary 18, we are back for three more episodes of ROH TV as we find our way on the runway to Lakeland.

We kicked off the road to Lakeland with Nick Aldis, the self-proclaimed National Treasure defending against Silas Young. After another successful defense Nick Aldis is assaulted by Shane Taylor and Kenny King. King launches into a diatribe about how people haven't taken him seriously for a long-time, well things are about to change, and at Supercard of Honor, Nick Aldis will understand what it means when a King reclaims his crown.

Backstage Dalton Castle and Joe Hendry go through a semi-satirical skit that results in them agreeing to tag together.

The newly rechristened Leon St. Giovanni quickly defeated Eli Isom in a bit of a showcase for the now single LSG. Post-match he grabbed a mic and cut a scathing promo about how Shaheem Ali held him back for the last two and a half years, but now it was time for Leon St. Giovanni to shine...

Backstage Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal cut a promo on The Top Guys talking about how at Supercard of Honor the Top Guys will fall and the rise of a new tag empire will come with Gresham and Lethal as the rulers of the ring.

We return with Castle and Hendry having a successful tag victory against the Top Prospects team of Joe Keys and Lochy Hendricks. Keys and Hendricks both love the ladies but that didn't seem to make them gel as they took a quick L.

We cut to Chris Sabin screaming for help as he finds Alex Shelley bloodied on the floor with a note stapled to the back of his jacket warning of an impending "Plague on the horizon for all who stand in Ring of Honor"...

Returning to the ring, Jeff Cobb took umbrage with Tom Lawlor and defeated him in the main event of this episode, as Cobb defeated Lawlor he stood above him and made a throat slashing gesture as we went off the air...

---------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, March 2020 Week 4

This one kicked off with the #1 Contenders Gresham and Lethal scoring a pinfall victory over The Kingdom of Truth in a great opener. Gresham and Lethal really are great team and should be serious threats to the title.

The Top Guys are out next to officially tell Lethal and Gresham they will throw-down at Supercard of Honor, and it'll be No Flips, Just Fists.

Once again we jump backstage and find someone laid out, this time it is Mark Briscoe and once again there is a note stapled to the back of his jacket, the camera can't catch it all of the note but you can clearly see the words, "Tick tock".

Returning to the ring we see Team Filthy secure a six-man victory, their specialty over the makeshift team of Flip Gordon, PJ Black, and the debuting El Phantasmo. Phantasmo will be appearing on the Supercard of Honor pre-show and tonight seemed to be more about him promoting the appearance than him... trying... as he took the loss for his team.

Backstage we get another impassioned promo from Leon St Giovanni about why he turned on his partner and why he was happy to be riding solo into the future here in Ring of Honor, he refers to himself as one of the rarest forms of a diamond, "The Black Diamond"

We get a video promo featuring highlights of Will Ospreay and promoting his bout against The Amazing Red at Supercard of Honor!

In the main event, Nick Aldis defended his television title against Shane Taylor. While Kenny King was on commentary. King excused himself post-bout and leveled Aldis post-bout with Aldis' own belt. King and Taylor stood tall as the show went off the air.

ROH TV, April 2020, Week 1.

This one kicked off with Hammerstone destroying a debuting Aussie, Adam Brookes with the Nightmare Pendulum. Thus far, Hammerstone has been a wrecking ball with his partner, Odinson, but this was an effective showcase for his singles ability.

Backstage we get a promo with Jeff Cobb, Cobb says he's been ripping the days off his calendar until he can challenge for another title and now there are less than 90 days left... and he's got his eyes on a prize... the Pure Title... But until then he'll face all comers, so at Supercard of Honor this is an open challenge... ... Suddenly, JD Drake enters the frame and says that Cobb will have to go through him before he ever can lay his hands on his partner. Cobb laughs and says he'll take care of that in tonights main event... and the open challenge still stands for Supercard of Honor.

MOdtSFv.jpg

Another mysterious kanji word appears on the screen... Suddenly it fades out...

The announcers say that Low-Ki was targeted at Anniversary and the kanji that was shown then read "Death"... Riccaboni says he's quickly translated this one and it says "Honor"... Suddenly this image appears on the screen...

TDiDGyt.jpg?1

The announcers says, we can confirm that at Supercard of Honor it'll be KENTA vs. Low-Ki in a true dream match!!!

Back in the ring, Kenny King is out to prove he is ready to take down Nick Aldis at Supercard of Honor. He has his opponent, Joe Hendry on the ropes and should be able to take him down, but Nick Aldis appears on the ramp distracted King... Hendry takes advantage and rolls up King for the quick 1-2-3... Before he can celebrate, King takes him down, prompting Aldis to run in for the save... but as Aldis slides in so does Shane Taylor, Taylor and King overpower the TV champ and this ends with King standing over Aldis, looking strong going into Supercard of Honor.

We return from break, Dalton Castle is providing Joe Hendry with an ice pack and congratulating him on the "huge win"!!! Castle glosses over the post-match beat-down and the fact that he wasn't there to save his friend.

In the main event we got an explosive 10-man tag... The Top Guys, teamed with Jeff Cobb, Leon St Giovanni and the returning to ROH, Doug Williams. Williams has been announced as Anthony Henry's first challenger for the Pure Title and in this one they faced off as the other team was Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham, Anthony Henry, JD Drake and Shaheem Ali. This one saw Jeff Cobb secure the win for his team when he delivered the Tour of the Islands to JD Drake... We went off the air, heading into Supercard of Honor with St Giovanni jawing with Ali, Doug Williams staring down Anthony Henry, and The Top Guys and Lethal and Gresham acknowledging eachother... but in the end the last image was Jeff Cobb standing tall and staring at the screen as someone seemed to answer his open challenge....

----------------------------------------------------------------------

As we near Supercard of Honor there are a couple of final match announcements that were made online prior to the show!

In a bout that is bound to have ramifications on the future of midcard titles, Dragon Lee will be returning to ROH as be a part of a fatal-four-way with Joe Hendry, PJ Black and Flip Gordon as the other competitors!

We can also confirm that Jeff Cobb's issued an open challenge and that has been answered by "Switchblade" Jay White.

Lastly, the contract has been signed, sealed and delivered. We may not have seen much of Jay Briscoe in the last three weeks, but we can now confirm that he will defending the title at Supercard of Honor and he'll be doing it against... RUSH. This dream match will be a first-time collision for these two and is bound to set the building on fire. Especially since their have been heavy rumors that RUSH may be set to join Ring of Honor on a full-time contract, though that is merely that, a rumor for the time-being. The big question here is, have the mystery assaults and notes been from "El Toro Blanco" or is there a more nefarious being behind them!

I don’t tend to be a big “bumper” but in this case I’m making an exception. The actual Supercard of Honor was scheduled to be held on April 3rd, 2020; so with many of us experiencing a quarantine... this diary will post #goingtolakeland tomorrow! Stay safe y’all, and see you tomorrow!

Ring of Honor Presents: Supercard of Honor 2020

Ring of Honor Presents: Supercard of Honor 2020

Live in Lakeland, Florida

Ringside we have Ian Riccaboni, Rob Naylor and AJ Kirsch

As the fans filed in they were treated to a very solid pre-show bout featuring The Motor City Machine Guns taking on the NJPW Bullet Club B-Team squad of Chase Owens and El Phantasmo. Phantasmo has been making a name for himself in the pacific northwest and in the last few months has affiliated himself with the Bullet Club in NJPW. Nonetheless, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley's long-time chemistry was on display here and they scored the win here. Post bout, Chris Sabin cut a heartfelt promo taking the fans of Ring of Honor for always demanding the most out of their performers, Sabin says he's taken that to heart and recently was presented with an opportunity to help lead the development and train the future of Ring of Honor with the start-up Future of Honor promotion. He and Shelley embraced in the ring and they left to a huge applause.

The Motor City Machine Guns defeated El Phantasmo and Chase Owens (***1/2)

----------------------------------------------------------

The show opens with Bobby Cruise in the ring and making the announcement that this bout will be contested under the Pure Wrestling rules and will be for the Pure Wrestling Title...

ROH Pure

Anthony Henry {C} vs. Doug Williams

Henry's first title defense came against a ROH legend, and former Pure champion. Doug Williams. Williams has been announced for the upcoming Past vs Present special, and it would mean even more if he went in their as the Pure Champion, alas, that was not to be. Anthony Henry, himself a well-traveled veteran, controlled the pace of this one and delivered a Spinebuster that would make his father-in-law David Young proud for the first successful defense of his title.

Anthony Henry retained the ROH Pure Title defeating Doug Williams (**1/2).

Backstage we see The Briscoes discussing the attacks that have been taking place and who could possibly be behind them... This naturally leads to an interruption by RUSH and Dragon Lee Jr. who claim to know who is behind the attacks and claim that tonight, when RUSH walks out as ROH World Champion, everyone else will see the truth...

Proving Ground (Winner Receives a TV Title Shot)

Dragon Lee vs. Flip Gordon vs. Joe Hendry vs. PJ Black

This one was a showcase bout for the four competitors, Dragon Lee always impresses and along with his brother RUSH, have been rumored to be major full-time targets for ROH and other promotions around the world. For now, he remains contracted to CMLL, but only time will tell. During the bout we are told that this is officially a "proving ground" match and the winner will receive a TV Title shot at a later date. Flip Gordon looked solid here and nearly secured a victory over Joe Hendry, but PJ Black broke the count up and Black and Gordon's fight led to an all-out aerial assault on one another that impressed everyone in the stands... It did however, take both men out of the ring long enough for Dragon Lee to snake a victory defeating Joe Hendry...

Dragon Lee won the Fatal-Four-Way, pinning Joe Hendry while PJ Black and Flip Gordon were on the floor (***).

Bobby Cruise is standing by with Jeff Cobb who is ranting and raving about missed opportunities and how now it's not about titles, it's about taking scalps. Out steps "Switchblade" Jay White and he says he's not here to make friends, he is here as a mercenary... and he's the only one taking any scalps tonight... and it'll be Cobb's.

Fight Without Honor

Leon St. Giovanni vs. Shaheem Ali

This one told the story of two former partners who came up together and earned a full-time contract with Ring of Honor. Despite finding some success, it wasn't fast enough for Leon St. Giovanni who blamed their failings on his partner, Shaheem Ali. This one was hard-hitting and neither man backed down. Ali's size advantage seemed to be his saving grace here, but St. Giovanni's speed helped neutralize that. Around midway through the match a women dressed a tight black leather jacket and pants walked down the ramp, she had black hair and black lipstick. The announcers said she seemed familiar but couldn't place her. She walked right up to Leon St. Giovanni, handed him a set of brass knuckles and he proceeded to light Shaheem Ali up with them... Covering for the victory... Post-bout, St. Giovanni and his new associate laid a Black Rose over the fallen body of his former ally.

Leon St. Giovanni defeated Shaheem Ali in a Fight Without Honor after receiving assistance from a mysterious woman and a set of brass knuckles (**).

As they head up the ramp, Truth Martini and the Kingdom of Truth make their way out and congratulate Leon St. Giovanni for becoming his own man... Truth hands the woman a booklet and says take a look at what the Kingdom of Truth can do for you and think about it...

ROH Television Title

Nick Aldis {C} vs. Kenny King

Aldis has been the Television champion for 11 months now, defending the title against all comers. Only Jay Lethal's 2014 reign as champ stands as a longer reign for the title, but his opponent tonight, is a former two-time Television champion and a man on a mission. Shane Taylor accompanied King to the ring, but Todd Sinclair sent him to the back immediately to ensure no funny business would occur in this bout. Honestly, this bout fell flat, King and Aldis didn't seem to gel and something seemed off from the get go. Both men hit a number of signature moves but the turning point was when Nick Aldis went for the Elbow Drop only for King to lift his knees and plant them squarely into Aldis' ribcage, King followed up with the Royal Flush and secured the pinfall becoming the first-ever three-time Television Champion in the process. Shane Taylor made his way out with a bottle of champagne and the new champion and his associate, celebrated like only they can.

Kenny King defeated Nick Aldis to become the NEW Ring of Honor Television Champion (**1/2).

Bobby Cruise meanwhile caught up with Rocky Romero who is talking about the upcoming "Past vs. Present" event. Romero says he considers himself a little bit of both the past and the present in Ring of Honor, he says he wants an opponent from the past to step forth and sure enough, Matt Cross appears. Cross and Romero acknowledge eachother and the bout is advertised on the screen.

ROH Tag Titles

The Top Guys {C} vs. Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham

tGYDCin.jpgNkj7ttP.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgJNvytgY.jpgsIemKyp.jpg

The Top Guys have been exactly that in the tag division since joining the company last year. Lethal on the otherhand has been a stalwart in all divisions in Ring of Honor and now seems to have connected with Jonathan Gresham on a new level. This bout was one of three that really stood out on the night and it was thanks to all four men going all out that this one was so special, truthfully it was the best overall match of the evening. All four men in the ring have superior technical skills and this bout absolutely featured that. Lethal and Gresham's chemistry was undeniable and if you didn't know they'd only been tagging for a few months you would have no idea. McKnight and Walters on the other hand were as sharp as ever, making crisp exchanges and passing the baton back and forth as they attempted to wear down Lethal and Gresham. With that said though, they were met at ever peak by their opponents. This one's finish was a bit of a shock though... Jonathan Gresham was isolated and had been worn down... he looked for the hot tag, but KC McKnight clocked Lethal to the floor before Gresham could get to him... with Lethal down, McKnight tagged in Walters and they set-up for the Shatter Machine, as McKnight lifted Gresham into the flapjack, Lethal managed to get back on the apron and somehow made a tag as Gresham was passing through the air... As Walters connected on Gresham, Lethal came soaring into the ring and delivered a double footstomp to Walters back (Walters was covering Gresham, to no count), in the process crushing his partner... Lethal then ducked a swinging clothesline from McKnight, and hit the Lethal Injection...

One

Two

Three.

Todd Sinclair's hand struck the mat just as Steven Walters managed to break the pinfall attempt up... Sinclair called for the bell and The Top Guys stared on in disbelief as Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham raised the belts as the NEW Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions. McKnight and Walters in a show of pure respect, hugged the new champions and promised they'd be asking for a rematch soon!

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham became the NEW ROH World Tag Team Champions defeating The Top Guys (****).

We get a highlight video next comparing the styles and careers thus far of The Amazing and Will Ospreay. That match is next as both men make their way out to the ring.

Amazing Red vs. Will Ospreay

This was a showcase bout designed to keep the fans hyped up and wow them with some aerial mastery. Indeed this was fun and fast-paced, though a bit sloppy as many spot-fest style matches tend to be. Amazing Red hit a great Spanish Fly... only for Ospreay to bust out one of his own a little while later. This game of anything you can do I, I can do better continued until Will Ospreay hit the OsCutter out of nowhere for the victory...

Will Ospreay defeated The Amazing Red (***).

We get an incredible retrospective piece that heavily featured the famous Low-Ki vs. KENTA bout from 2005's Final Battle. Fans were reminded that it was Low-Ki who lost their first clash at Final Battle in 2005. Low-Ki and KENTA both have become world warriors since then and this promised to be a dream match that could have easily main evented the card.

KENTA vs. Low-Ki

This one lived up to the hype from bell to bell. What a match and what chemistry these two have. With no titles on the line this was purely for pride. This was true Puroresu at its finest. Stiff, fearless strikes from both men that you could feel throughout the crowd. Vintage across the board and both men looked extremely sharp and left no stone unturned in their quest to defeat the other. As the pace picked up it was Low-Ki's chance to shine as he delivered a series of quick kicks that slowed KENTA. KENTA crawled back to his feet but was met with a chop across the chest... KENTA flailed wildly but was caught by Low-Ki who quickly and fluidly lifted KENTA and delivered a Ki Krusher 99 for the victory!

Low-Ki defeated KENTA (****)

Backstage Team Filthy, well mainly just Tom Lawlor, are protesting their lack of inclusion on the show. Lawlor says that he's way more deserving than some of these goons and wants to prove it but hasn't been given that chance...

Jay White vs. Jeff Cobb

This one undelivered despite both men wanting to establish some dominance. They just didn't click and after the Low-Ki Kenta bout, this one felt like a disappointment. Jay White hit a number of his spots, but Jeff Cobb's pure strength and brute nature took control of this one... He hit the Tour of the Islands and secured the win, posing over the fallen body of White and making the throat slashing gesture we saw him make earlier this month... Jeff Cobb is a bad man with bad intentions...

Jeff Cobb defeated Jay White (**3/4).

Backstage Jay and Mark Briscoe agree that Mark will be at ringside to ensure that nothing fishy happens and that no one can jump Jay. As we head to the ring, we see that RUSH has brought his brother Dragon Lee Jr to the ring with him as back-up as well...

ROH World Title

Jay Briscoe {C} vs. RUSH

l8MTPbW.jpgkTDXWu3.jpgZT7zw0m.jpg

The ROH World Champion and RUSH square off and dance around for a bit to start this one. Their respective brothers at ringside keeping a close eye on one another as the pace begins to pick up. Jay Briscoe has never been one to back-down from a challenge and RUSH has been destroying all comers as the ace of CMLL. Despite that RUSH hasn't ever captured a World Title and that inexperience might be costly to him. Briscoe worked him over good, but RUSH was game and even managed to swing momentum his way for a good chunk of the match. Dragon Lee looked to get involved but was met by Mark Briscoe, who kept him at bay. RUSH tried to go for a low-blow on Jay, but Jay shut the door in the knick of time, trapping RUSH's arm between his legs, he reversed that into a submission and begin to tear RUSH apart limb by limb. Briscoe connected with a Jay Driller, but RUSH managed to get a foot under the rope to break the count. Jay went for it again but RUSH countered and sent Jay into the turnbuckles. RUSH with the offense for a bit only to see Briscoe counter and deliver a head removing discus lariat... Jay lifted RUSH again and planted him with the Jay Driller and the title defense was secured...

Jay Briscoe defeated RUSH to retain the ROH World Title (***3/4)

.........

.........

Before he had a chance to celebrate the lights went out...

.........

.........

.........

.........

.........

.........

.........

.........

When they returned Mark Briscoe and Dragon Lee were both out cold on the ramp with notes laying on their bodies..... but in the ring the scene was even more grim as Jay Briscoe and RUSH were both out, laying head to head, the ROH World Title was draped over Jay's prone body, and a plague mask lay in front of their bodies... the camera zooming in on the mask as we went off the air...

Card Announcement for Ring of Honor Past vs. Present

Card Announcement for Ring of Honor Past vs. Present

With the way the schedule worked out this month there was only one episode of build-up for Past vs. Present and the majority the match announcements were made via Twitter and on ROHWrestling.com. This show is an ROH Honor Club special, so there won't be as much "story"; it is more about the in-ring action. We'll be back with five episodes of ROH TV building into May's Pay-Per-View, Free Enterprise!

In addition to the already announced Hammerstone vs. Grizzly Redwood and Matt Cross vs. Rocky Romero we can officially add five additional bouts for this exclusive Honor Club event. They are as follows.

There will be a Pure Wrestling Showcase in which Doug Williams continues his return to ROH and will be challenging a technical specialist, Team Filthy's leader, Tom Lawlor.

Speaking of Pure wrestling the ROH Pure Title title will be defended for the second time in another bout of Past vs. Present Champion as the champ Anthony Henry defends his title against a champion from the past who happens to have a promoter with deep enough pockets to buy him this opportunity as Prince Nana returns to ROH and he's bringing with him former Pure Champion, John Walters.

Fifteen years ago two units stood atop Ring of Honor, one of them, includes the present ROH World Champion, Jay Briscoe and his brother Mark... The other half, features two men who were once close allies, only to spend over a decade not even on speaking terms after an incident that led one of the men to leave wrestling as a whole and in the process vacate his half of the ROH Tag Titles, but as they say, time heals all wounds and Homicide and Dan Maff will be joining forces for one night only as they'll challenge Dem Boyz.

We all know now that Low-Ki was the first-ever Ring of Honor World Champion, and his return to ROH has been very successful for him. But do you remember who defeated him in 2002, and became the second ever ROH World Champion. Well, it'll be a battle of the first two ROH World Champions: as Low-Ki takes on Xavier.

Last but not least, the Ring of Honor Tag Titles will be on the line as a team with an illustrious past in Ring of Honor reunites for the first time since 2007 and challenges for the titles as Alex Shelley and Matt Sydal, Generation Next, challenge for the titles.

All this plus the two bouts already announced as the "Littlest Lumberjack" Grizzly Redwood returns to Ring of Honor to face Hammerstone, and three-time ROH Tag Champion Rocky Romero represents the present strength of ROH as he takes on Matt Cross representing the Past.

ROH Past vs. Present Card:

The Briscoe Brothers vs. Dan Maff and Homicide

As we head into Past Vs. Present I wanted to share this...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="

https://www.youtube.com/embed/w0eJxWy2-Vk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I've been tinkering around with the video game for the last year or so sporadically, and there is some great content people have created. In fact, I've been able to download virtually my entire roster, which is pretty awesome (thanks unknown creators). With the current stay-at-home order, I have a fair amount of free-time, so I was thinking I could toss in a highlight or two, like the one above... but admittedly I don't really understand PS Share that well... so TBD... but wanted to post, and see if that helps any of the immersion. Especially for guys like The End (seen here) to give some people who aren't familiar a bit of a look at them.

On to some recent feedback...

Re: Generation Next... I've always loved Shelley (and Sabin for that matter, but he's currently training the next wave of guys), which seems to be a theme among a lot of us. Finding him the right story has proven a bit difficult at times though... but... without spoiling anything, I will say in-game he's currently a tag champion in Japan with NJPW and I also employ his partner over there... So that may be a factor in the future.

Two: I was really looking forward to ROH's actual Past vs. Present card (though I'd rather watch mine personally), and think this is a fun event to bring some names back that don't typically pop up in modern diaries.

Doug Williams deserves a nice retirement tour, naturally.

The Littlest Lumberjack... stands no chance, fact.

Don't know if anyone has seen much of Anthony Henry's recent work in EVOLVE but his style really fits the Pure Division, and I think he'd have stellar match-ups with both Walters and Williams IRL.

Appreciate the follows and let's keep this train chugging.

Powerbrock1000: The longevity of this surprises even me. But I'm really immersed in the game world I've maintained and created and really have enjoyed this story. My frequent breaks since starting this in December 2017 have actually helped me by allowing real world events unfold that I can spin into my own vision.

Next post will be Past vs. Present!

Ring of Honor: Past vs Present

We are live in the arena, and only an hour away from Past vs. Present. As Past vs. Present is a special event, we also filmed an episode of ROH TV prior to the show. So before we get to the event let's recap that taping.

ROH TV: April, Week 2, 2020

The show kicked off with the continuation of the Doug Williams retirement tour. "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams squared off with Doug Williams and both men got in a number of signature spots. In the battle of Williams, Tracy took home the victory in an unspectacular opener. Post-bout, Doug grabbed a microphone and promised he would head off into the sunset by defeating one Tom Lawlor at Past vs. Present.

PJ Black is out next, he has a microphone and reminds the fans that although he lost the TV Title #1 Contendership bout last night, he won a "Proving Ground" match in February at Unauthorized that entitled him to a TV title shot anytime anyplace... So Kenny King better watch out because the Darewolf is opportunistic and he'll pounce when the timing is perfect.

Back to the ring, Leon St Giovanni and his mysterious associate are out for a match with Joe Hendry. Good TV bout, but nothing more, continuing to try to build Leon St Giovanni up, he hits the Double Underhook Facebuster which the announcers are calling the Thorns of the Rose and wins the bout. His associate enters and leaves a black rose on Hendry's chest as she leaves with St Giovanni... As they make their way up the ramp, Truth Martini is out with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett. They tell Leon to think over their offer and take advantage of it whenever he is ready.

Nick Aldis is out next, he says Supercard of Honor was humbling, he was beaten, not by a better man, but a man who happened to hit the lottery and . "The National Treasure" said he brought new prominence to the TV Title during his lengthy reign and now was ready to turn the page and look to bigger things... and that bigger thing is Jay Briscoe and the ROH World Title.

In the main event, Dalton Castle teamed with Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham to defeat the star-studded team of Jeff Cobb and the Top Guys. Fun back and forth bout, "The Hawaiian Hit Man" Cobb doesn't work well with his teammates, and ultimately that leaves them a bit short-handed. The better teamwork from Castle, Lethal and Gresham leads to a pinfall victory for their team...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Ring of Honor Presents: Past vs. Present

Live on the HonorClub

Announcers: AJ Kirsch, Ian Riccaboni and Rob Naylor

We are live! And welcome to Past vs. Present!

Doug Williams vs. Tom Lawlor

We kick off with Doug Williams vs. Tom Lawlor, Williams promised to defeat Lawlor and head off into the sunset and surprisingly he did just that. Lawlor was the stronger man, but like a cat playing with a mouse instead of putting it away, Lawlor's arrogance got the better of him. He allowed Doug Williams to get to the ropes multiple times, with Lawlor pointing out that "Williams is lucky this isn't a Pure Rules bout" but never capitalizing. Williams caught Lawlor with a stiff uppercut, and then hit the Chaos Theory, rolling Lawlor up in the end for a surprise victory!

Doug Williams defeated Tom Lawlor via Chaos Theory (**3/4)

Post-Bout "Filthy" Tom offers his hand to Doug Williams, only to fake raising his arm and lock Williams in a triangle hold... as Williams is tapping and official Frank Dumeng attempts to break the hold. Fred Yehi, who was at ringside as part of Team Filthy has seen enough though and slides into the ring and forcefully pulls Lawlor off Williams... Woods steps-in to separate the two from a heated confrontation and they head to the back as a unit...

Hammerstone vs. Grizzly Redwood

The bell rings, Redwood charges... Hammerstone grabs him... Nightmare Pendulum. 1-2-3. Hammerstone stands tall, yeets Redwood out of the ring and we head to the back...

Hammerstone defeated Grizzly Redwood in seven seconds (*3/4, it got the point across)

Backstage we see a well-dressed man with a crown on his head, he seems to be paying off some security guards to give him access to the locker room... Prince Nana walks in and immediately finds his way over to where Xavier is seated, he offers to represent him tonight, just like he's about to represent John Walters in his title quest... Xavier thanks him but says tonight, this is about a feud that is 18 years in the making... and it's for him and Low-Ki only...

ROH Pure

Anthony Henry {C} vs. John Walters w/ Prince Nana

One way to re-establish an old title is to have the new champion face former champions in his first two defenses. This bout wasn't a great showcase for the title, but was a fun flashback. Henry won the bout relatively easily, despite Prince Nana's efforts to help his ally.

Anthony Henry defeated John Walters via Spinebuster to retain the ROH Pure Title (**).

Backstage The Horror Kings attack Bandido out of nowhere, Vincent orders Brody to powerbomb Bandido through a table, but before he can Flip Gordon makes the save and holds them off until security separates the fracas.

We move down the hallway to the champions "club" where Kenny King and Shane Taylor are seated. King and Taylor are discussing a plan to defeat Dragon Lee when there is a knock at the door. PJ Black walks in and mentions that while he may have failed this month at the Proving Ground... it's worth mentioning that he won a similar Proving Ground match in February at Unauthorized... and well... he's going to cash in when he's ready... which might be... soon...

The Briscoe Brothers vs. Dan Maff and Homicide

Homicide is a personal favorite of ROH CEO Cary Silkin, and Dan Maff has returned to the scene after a lengthy hiatus, but let's be real, they shouldn't have stood a chance against Dem Boyz, particularly the ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe. With that said, this was a great bout and really fun to watch. In fact many have it as a Top 5 bout in Ring of Honor in the last four years. These four men worked really well together and delivered a bout that was worth watching. Dan Maff and Homicide both turned the clock back to 2005 and delivered a vintage beat-down that saw them really work over both Briscoes. They forced Jay and Mark to dig deep and get into the old-school style. This was a lip-buster as all four men connected with stiff blows and really got the crowd into this one. Mark Briscoe even drew color after a particularly stiff shot across the brow from Maff. Ultimately, the experience and time together for the Briscoes proved beneficial and they took control and connected with Froggy Bow combo and scored the victory. The Briscoes scored the pinfall on Maff for the win.

The Briscoe Brothers defeated Dan Maff and Homicide (****) Match of the Night

Jeff Cobb invites himself to join the commentary table after this bout, and mentions that he defeated Dan Maff back in February (at Unauthorized) and got no love or adoration... now Maff is getting booked and Cobb is left off the card... Well Jeff Cobb "The Hawaiian Hitman" is the PRESENT and Ring of Honor is the PAST. He says he may not be able to challenge for titles until July, but he can still cut down former champions, starting with Dalton Castle next week. Cobb stays on the announce table as Matt Cross and Rocky Romero make their way out...

Matt Cross vs. Rocky Romero

Another bout designed more to draw out nostalgia than actual story-telling. Romero and Cross had a fun exchange and Romero hit a number of his spots. Cross missed a 450 splash and that led to the Romero victory, which was short lived when Jeff Cobb entered the ring and hit both men with the Tour of the Islands, standing over both and making the throat-slashing gesture he's been making frequently of late.

Rocky Romero defeated Matt Cross after Cross missed a 450 Splash (**1/2).

Nick Aldis is cutting a similar promo to early during the TV Taping about climbing into the World Title picture, Will Ospreay overhears and steps in and says he agrees that Aldis has earned a shot, but that Ospreay wants his shot at Aldis and hopes that'll happen once he returns from Asia in Mid-May. These two have teamed together four times in various ROH bouts, but have never gone one on one!

Low-Ki vs. Xavier

This is nostalgia at its finest, 18 years after these two men became the first two ROH World champions, they face off once again. Xavier is 10+ years removed from his last bout and the ring rust is evident, but Low-Ki is a great leader and helps guide him through this bout. As things develop the two New Yorkers, with Xavier representing Queens and Low-Ki representing Brooklyn, go back and forth and Xavier seems to get his feet under him. Low-Ki though is clearly the better man and he wins this one in just over 10 minutes.

Low-Ki defeated Xavier via Warriors Way (**3/4)

Post-Bout: The Top Guys are seen taking a seat in the front-row, and they applaud both men for holding up history, they remind the cameraman they are always looking for a fight, and it'll be pure fists, no flips... Just a nice easy way to get them some air-time in their first appearance since losing the titles at Supercard of Honor... They seem content to just join the audience and they'll sit front row for the main event...

ROH Tag Titles

Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham {C} vs. GenNext (Alex Shelley and Matt Sydal)

Talk about a throwback! GenNext makes their way out to a huge applause and a streamer show. The new champs meanwhile get a huge pop from everyone and even acknowledge the Top Guys at ringside... The bout itself was a really solid bout but fell just a nose short of the other tag bout for match of the night. The result was likely never in doubt, as Lethal and Gresham just won the belts last week. But it was fun to see all four men in the ring here and everyone really showed they can go. Sydal's return to Ring of Honor was fun and we can confirm he's got another bout lined up already. The finish here saw Jonathan Gresham catch Sydal in the Octopus Stretch and force a submission for the title defense. Post-bout, The Top Guys are seen walking out of the stands...

Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal defended the ROH Tag Titles against Generation Next (Alex Shelley and Matt Sydal) via Octopus Stretch (****)

Overall: (***3/4) Two stellar bouts mixed with a bunch of TV quality bouts.

Ring of Honor Announces Long-Term Contract With Former World Champion

After an incredible performance at Past vs. Present, CEO Cary Silkin has personally extended a two-year contract to Homicide! Homicide was a Ring of Honor original, debuting in a tag-team match at our first ever show. From there he was a mainstay until 2008 when he left the company on great terms. He returned again from 2010-2014 before leaving the company for the last six years. Upon his return at Past vs. Present, Homicide showed that he still had it and CEO Silkin felt that he was a perfect fit for the continued growth of Ring of Honor. With the full-time return of Homicide, Ring of Honor now proudly employs four men who appeared on our first show in February 2002.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OOC: Originally didn't offer Homicide a contract, but since I only play as the booker, Cary Silkin stepped in and signed him... though he's in time decline (five years past) he can still put on solid matches and I worked him into a some good stories through June which is where I am at in game... Working on a plan for TEW 2020. I'm not ready to shut this one down, so the current plan is to convert it over and then make sure the game is updated and playing correctly. Some of the new features (like block booking TV tapings) fit into the ROH style really well. That said, if I can't convert it the way I want to do it we may wrap this story up at the end of the June shows. And start a new with a new challenge. My current thoughts are either do another Ring of Honor, just starting with their actual roster, post-pandemic with Scurll as head booker and bring them into their new generation. Or potential take over Impact! and move them forward. That said, long ways away on either... Let's keep this train rolling.

Next post will be the four TV shows leading into our May Pay-Per-View, Free Enterprise!

ROH TV: Late April/Early May, Build-Up to Free Enterprise

We are on the road to the May PPV: Free Enterprise and have four television episodes worth of build-up towards it, not to mention the one episode prior the Past vs. Present special event.

ROH TV: April 2020, Week 3

This one opened with Jeff Cobb defeating JD Drake in a solid opener. The two hosses had a solid brawl but in the end it was Cobb putting the big man down with a Tour of the Islands.

Nick Aldis cut a promo about his success in Ring of Honor and feeling like he was ready for the next mountaintop. He issued a challenge to Jay Briscoe for Free Enterprise, promising to climb the mountain and become the new ROH World Champion.

PJ Black defeated Shane Taylor in a sloppy bout, Taylor doesn't mesh well with smaller, quicker workers and that's exactly what PJ Black is. Black took to the air to take the big-man down and ultimately took home a victory. After beating his bodyguard, PJ Black calls out Kenny King telling him that he's cashing in his shot from February at Free Enterprise and he'll become the new TV champion...

Backstage we see Tom Lawlor berating Fred Yehi for stopping his assault on Doug Williams at Past vs. Present. Lawlor tells Yehi that he's his associate, he's not the top dog and associates need to follow their leader. Lawlor tells Yehi that he's going to face Josh Woods next week and once this "brotherhood" fights it out, things will be resolved.

Vincent (Vinny Marseglia) defeated Flip Gordon in the television main event with some assistance from Brody (Brody King). Vincent's persona has been being tweaked over the last year and he seems to be coming into his own as both a horrifying man and a potential cult-style leader... this victory set's him up for the next move.

We end the episode The Top Guys invoking their rematch clause, they announce at Free Enterprise they'll be the challengers, but they intend on recapturing the gold they lost at Supercard of Honor.

----------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, April 2020, Week 4

Show opens with the Team Filthy fight, as Fred Yehi submits Josh Woods... As the bell rings, Yehi won't let the hold go, and Tom Lawlor slides in the ring screaming at Yehi. Yehi releases the hold and slides out of the ring, leaving Lawlor to check on Woods.

Backstage we see Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham leaving an office, they confirm they just signed the paperwork for the rematch with The Top Guys and that the PPV will be another notch in their belts.

Cameras rush down the hallway to see Bandido leaning over his partner Flamita's prone body. Bandido can be heard saying it was the Horror Kings and after last weeks loss to Vincent with the assist to Brody, Flip Gordon happened to be hell-bent on revenge on the Horror Kings. He immediately joined Bandido in a tag-match, and took the fight right to the Horror Kings. Things looked to be heading towards Gordon and Bandido, but Vincent and Brody just up and left the ring area getting counted out in the process.

Backstage, Nick Aldis says he still hasn't heard a response from Jay Briscoe, but that Briscoe can't just duck the National Treasure because he's afraid of some "plague on Ring of Honor"...

PJ Black defeated Silas Young in a solid TV bout, PJ Black tries to call out Kenny King, but King appears on the video board and says he's focused on only one thing, next week's title defense, against Dragon Lee... Because Dragon Lee had the decency to actually cash-in his proving ground shot without holding onto it for three months.

In the main event "The Hawaiian Hit-Man" Jeff Cobb's murder streak continues as he defeated Dalton Castle in a really solid bout. Both men had a number of near falls, in the end Castle's weakened back appeared to give out slightly, allowing Cobb to hit the Tour of the Islands for the victory.

----------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, May 2020, Week 1

This week's show opens with Prince Nana paying his way backstage and looking for Alex Shelley... he comes upon him and tells him that Shelley and says that Shelley sold out The Embassy by teaming with former long-time rival Matt Sydal at Past vs. Present... Prince Nana says that Shelley must repent, and that a one-time payment of $5,000 will do... Shelley laughs and walks away.

In the opener, Kenny King defended his television title against Dragon Lee. This bout fell flat as an opener, but King got the defense regardless as Lee is on his way back to CMLL.

Backstage Anthony Henry is talking to the cameraman when Jeff Cobb interrupts... Cobb says that while he knows he cannot challenge for the title, there is no reason why he cannot kick Henry's ass at Free Enterprise. Henry looks at Cobb and gets a mischievous smile on his face, he accepts the challenge. At Free Entreprise it'll be a non-title bout between Anthony Henry and Jeff Cobb.

In the ring Flip Gordon scores revenge over the Horror Kings when he defeated the much larger Brody. Brody and Vincent once again attempted to leave the bout, but Flip left the ring with a huge Tope and took both men out... He returned Brody to the ring, landed a 450 Splash and made the cover.

Backstage, Tom Lawlor is cutting a promo on Fred Yehi claiming that Yehi rode his coattails until he felt like he could go free and do whatever he pleased. The cameraman asks Lawlor what he's going to do and Lawlor says, "At Free Enterprise, I'll tap Yehi out, in a Submissions Only, no rope breaks, no count outs, fight without honor."

Next up we get a promo from the Briscoe's compound. Mark and Jay have been working out and are ready for a fight, so at Free Enterprise, Jay Briscoe will face Nick Aldis... and Mark Briscoe is personally calling out this attacker who has been faceless for the last few months. "This coward who comes and goes, and leaves nothing but pain in his tracks... I want him... Face to face in the ring, at Free Enterprise."

In a killer main event, Low-Ki defeated KC McKnight of the Top Guys. This was billed as McKnight and Walters wanting a tune up fight, but Low-Ki wanted a one on one and his comfort in singles bouts shined bright here as he scored a hard fought victory.

----------------------------------------------------------------

ROH TV, May 2020, Week 2

Prince Nana has returned and this time it is with an announcement... "Alex Shelley didn't pay my fine... but Matt Sydal accepted my bribe! So at Free Enterprise it'll be Generation Next vs. The Embassy all over again... Matt Sydal vs. Alex Shelley, one on one! Prince Nana on commentary, as you all desire!"

Our first bout is Jeff Cobb vs Grizzly Redwood. Cobb refuses to pin Redwood, rag-dolling him around the ring until the official calls for a TKO. Anthony Henry runs down and exchanges blows with Cobb until security pulls them apart.

Another squash is next as Hammerstone flattens Ryan Nova. Hammerstone's partner, Odinson is currently on his second month of a tour with NJPW, so this was more to keep Hammerstone in the limelight.

Backstage we get a promo with Vincent and Brody. Vincent speaks of being enlightened to the truth that is professional wrestling. He says he can tell that people held him back and he knows people hold Brody back... He said we are tired of being puppets in a game man... We are The Righteous and we are HERE.

Pre-taped promo with Lawlor and Woods training and preparing for the Submissions Only Fight Without Honor against former associate Fred Yehi.

PJ Black is on his way to the ring, when he is attacked by Shane Taylor and Kenny King. Dalton Castle makes the save and an impromptu tag bout breaks out. Dalton Castle actually scores the win, hitting Bang-A-Rang on the massive Taylor to everyones surprise... Post-bout: Castle looks at Black and says, "Your welcome... I think I've earned a title shot though... so Free Enterprise, let's have a THREE WAY" PJ Black doesn't seem to mind this and agrees.

We get footage from somewhere in Brooklyn where Low-Ki is in a deli grabbing some essentials... Homicide walks in and sees Low-Ki. They have a bit on banter about both being from Brooklyn. Homicide mentions that he's officially a full-time member of Ring of Honor again and Low-Ki smiles and says "Good, then I can kick your ass for money... See you at Free Enterprise" brushing by Homicide to exit...

The Top Guys and Lethal and Gresham's budding rivalry, mutual admiration, video package is shown. The title defense at Free Enterprise is bound to be a banger!

In the main event, Nick Aldis defeated Mark Briscoe in a tune-up for the main event at Free Enterprise. Mark appeared to have the upper-hand but the lights flickered and seemed to cause Mark to lose attention briefly, Aldis took advantage and locked in the King's Lynn Cloverleaf for the submission victory as we went off the air!
