Anybody else noticing a lack of kicks?

Recommended Posts

This could be subjective though. How many is a lot of kicks? Sometimes I think their mental stats aren't up to par and their gameplan could use a lot of work as they seem to do questionable things or the opponent is just not giving them a great opportunity. Even great kickers could be a bit hesitant if they're against a good wrestler who can catch their kicks and take them down, especially if they can't defend well off their back.

I've noticed this. Someone like Naora Kikuchi would kick the shins off people in 4 but now, she doesn't do it nearly as often. I even tested it by boosting her kicking stats to 100 and putting her up against people with complementary styles (strikers with ZERO ground skills) and she takes them down (or tries to) and submits them (again, or tries to).

She faced Chelsea Lawson with her normal stats and in a three round fight, only a total of 62 shots were thrown, all jabs, all punches, according to the fight metrics. But I'm thinking that might be because I skip stuff (I hit B a lot).

Never actually been an issue. I've had a couple of fights stopped by TKO because one of the competitors couldn't physically stand up his legs had been kicked so often.

I don't often check the fight metrics as they don't always seem completely accurate with what's actually thrown. (In my experience) However, in my experiences, the fighters throw plenty of kicks.

Perhaps it's just based on the type of fighter they are and varies game to game?

Well you can work on changing the fight engine to have more frequent kicks if that helps and tweak to your heart's content.

I don't know about that. It doesn't seem to be logical that you would want to make all fighters kick more to solve the problem. Some guys, who have the skills/stats, should throw kicks, but not everyone.

Nah there's definitely plenty of kicks, especially in default data. Josef Jankowski and Xavi Castillio both won fights via leg kick TKO in my BCF save, and having only done 5-6 shows, that many in that time doesn't seem unreasonable.

So, they won by a leg kick, but did they perform a high volume of kicks in the fights?

I've seen plenty of kicking in my games, I guess it's wierd that sometimes fighters who should throw kicks don't even when they havet he opportunity to, but realistically fighters are going to throw way more punches than kicks even if their best offense is kicks simply because it's far less taxing on their cardio. If you follow the sport and watch a lot of fights even guys who are known for having particularly dangerous kicks still throw far more punches than kicks. As for the punches (Jab) thing in fight metrics think of (power) as being significant and jab as being less significant, it doesn't actually mean htey threw nothing but jabs, htey just didn't throw any power punches that landed.

Why would a fighter completely abandon their best weapon? Heck, their <strong>ONLY</strong> weapon. Again, look at Naora Kikuchi. Her kicks are all that set her apart. She's not an all-rounder. Her bio even points that out. When fighting the likes of Chelsea Lawson, Kelly Andrews, and Seka Mutsu, she should be feasting like Giancarlo Stanton on waist high fastballs. Now, I think the fight metrics has a display bug of some sort (unless left hooks and right crosses aren't power punches) but the play by play log makes no mention of even a single kick. In three fights, a total of 9 rounds (all unanimous decisions). It would be like Rachel McGuinness trying to keep the fight on the ground and attempting submissions. Heck, I only signed Kikuchi so she could kick the crap out of people. If she's going to just PUNCH, wth is she on the roster for?</p>

It does make sense. Look at guys like Jose Aldo and Edson Barboza. Kicks are probably their strongest weapons, but they don't just kick nonstop. Only when it makes sense, both in terms of cardio, and the way the fight is playing out. Like kickers will often kick less against grapplers for example, because they don't want to be taken down off of a caught kick. With a punch, the takedown risk is significantly lessened.

You're naming people who are multidimensional, relatively well rounded fighters. They have the CHOICE to adjust their tactics. When you're a one-trick pony, you typically stick to that trick, no? Rather than be caught by a BJJ black belt trying to work a sub when you're simply an iron headed puncher.

Kickers don’t just throw their legs every second, I agree, but they definitely use kicks to get in and open their opponents up. Not even attempting a kick is just unnatural if not flat wrong.

Precisely my point, though I'd expect a bit higher volume from a fighter whose main (and perhaps ONLY) weapons are kick-based.

Just to clarify if fighters who should be kicking aren't kicking three fights in a row, it could be something wrong with the code, but it's not outside the realms of just being a statistical anomaly. I've had a few odd fights in a row where wrestlers with no standup skills try and box with strikers but eventually they tend to start wrestling again eventually. It could be an issue with lack of team and poor gameplanning. As to the thing about right crosses and left hooks, they aren't power punches unless they have the text like (Solid Right cross, Nice right hand, hard left hook, etc.) I assume that's mostly to show that yeah they landed a cross but the other fighter was moving away or it didn't connect with a dangerous spot (Chin. temple, etc). Like I said I've seen plenty of kicking in my game (As in some fighters threw maybe 2/3 Punches and 1/3 kicks of their total strikes) maybe it is a bug that occurs under certian rare circumstances or something I have no idea.

Just gonna tack onto the end here apparently Adam is making it so fighters who are known for kicking/have good kicking stats should be more likely to throw kicks more often for 1.05, so hopefully that will fix the issue for people having it.

Making an edit here seems I was wrong on the power/jabs thing at least I think since I just saw a fighter get KOd by a punch when no power punches were landed in the fight so there very well could be an issue.

<p>It's probably hard to balance as they can't just keep throwing kicks or anybody who's something of a grappler will punish them. But sometimes kicking specialists don't throw any kicks at all during 5-round fights, which is a little awkward. If anything, the attribute should be changed. I don't think there's anything wrong with the default engine.</p><p> </p><p>

Again: you could all just customize the engine yourselves to induce fighters to throw more kicks (by setting it to +5% for instance.</p>

To recap, fighters would not throw kicks if they were particularly worried about having their leg caught and therefore getting taken down or smothered with grappling. This has been altered in an upcoming patch so that they will only reduce their amount of kicks, not totally disable them.
