WWF 1987: It'll Be A Happening!

Author's Notes:

So about a week ago I asked for the GDS community to help me decide on either WWF '91 or WCW '92 dynasty. The results of that post had me leaning to taking WWF '91 on.

As I began making my plans for that potential diary, I realized how much fun writing for big personalities like Hogan, Savage, Heenan, Monsoon, etc. could be and I got really excited to have some fun with those characters. That realization got me thinking that a WWF '91 diary would also most likely see me trying to get the focus off some of those personalities and inherently doing the opposite of what I was excited about. Hence WWF 1987. I'm really looking forward to sinking my teeth in with those big time WWF stars of the late '80's/early '90's in their prime.

To that end, I'm also going to work hard to try and capture the feel of this era with both my scheduling and presentation. I plan to run both Prime Time Wrestling and Superstars as "A" shows with Wrestling Challenge as a "B" show. I hope that the 2 "A" shows will both capture the feeling of the time while simultaneously playing TEW as the mechanic intends to a certain degree. I won't be playing this save with the goals of getting the best ratings/most income/achieve global growth...rather I'll be playing to simulate and have/make fun of the era, and tell stories that seems like they could've happened in real life.

I do expect to make adjustments based on the TEW's game engine...but I really do want to capture the era as much as possible. All and all...I expect, in the immortal words of late, great Gorilla Monsoon, "It'll be a happening!"

The Data: Obviously I'll be using the classic mod, The Golden Age by Genadi (and his Mod Squad peers). Big shout out to those guys and the countless hours they've put into all of their mods!

I have been slowly making some minor adjustments to the data before starting. The biggest of which is probably taking WWF's television off of regional US broadcasters and putting all of their shows on the USA Network (which I bumped to Medium level coverage). While I know the regional broadcasters and syndication are more historically accurate, I just didn't want to negotiate all those contracts individually and moving to the USA Network was obvious choice for a national broadcaster.

I also cut the entire Women's Division. I have no interest in booking The Fabulous Moolah or trying to rebuild a division with the likes of Misty Blue Simmons, etc. The Women's Revolution will have to wait until there is an abundance of female talent that I'm excited to book around.

Lastly, in the interest of full disclosure, I will admit to some other small changes to stats, removing some decline ages (and replacing them with random), altering some worker habits, chemistry etc. As the game progresses, feel free to question me about any individual worker or their stats and I'll happily share.

Format and Presentation: My user avatar will be Vince McMahon, but I don't imagine that'll influence things much. At the moment I don't plan on any first person style write-ups. I plan on posting mostly the shows. It'll be quicker, less detailed presentations for TV with a more involved presentation for Events. I'm still undecided how much Observer-type information I'll give...most likely some as needed.

Prediction Contests: I def. expect to run some (especially for events like SNME and PPV's). I'm not sure how much I'll do with posting predictions for TV shows...I may want to find my footing first.

To conclude, thanks for checking this little passion project out. I hope to go longer than my last few dynasties have. I feel encouraged because my 2 two longest running diaries were using this mod (albeit with the NWA). My longest TEW game ever was an AWA game with this mod on TEW 13 (in that game I brought the AWA well into 1991 before I lost the save to a crash).

Feedback is always welcomed and encouraged! Roster and Show Index to follow shortly!

<p>The hype is real! Can't wait to see what you do with this time period.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, not a knock on anyone who also does this mod as their diary whatsoever, but you can not imagine how much it tickles my OCD that you have the correct title belts. Crossface's diaries: come for the adherence to realism, stay for the awesome booking and writing!</p>

Will people be literally hanging off the rafters in this diary?! Will this thread be jam-packed as always?! :p

I think your 91/92 diary not coming to fruition is going to work out for the best here because I really enjoyed your NWA diary where Tony Schiavone's mustache became the breakout star. :D I wonder which inanimate object will bust out and break the glass ceiling this go 'round. Maybe Bret Hart's greasy long hair? The Macho Man's robe? Hulk Hogan's bandanna? I can't remember if he's in the data set already or if I had to import him, but if you ever hire Doyle King, maybe his deep, booming voice can be a contender.

All this to say that I cannot wait to get to start following this diary. :D

Thanks for the compliments and support guys! Both of you guys have been super supportive and positive for all of my projects (as well as countless others on these boards!) so thanks for the encouragement!

Matt, thanks for shouting out Tony's Schiavone's sweet and silky snot catcher! I fully intend to interject some more of my warped humor into my writeups!

Is that Hogan, or is it a murderous rabid blonde man?

Ha! Aren't we splitting hairs with this kind of question?

You can cut the electricity with a knife!

Funny...that was almost the name of the diary! One of things I am most looking forward to incorporating in to this project are all of the Gorilla-isms!

<p>Great to see you up and running again, and it will certainly be interesting to see you working with the WWF after your last two trips to WCW....1987 is about 18 months or so before my Wrestling addiction took hold so I have to try and remind myself of which people are relevant around now, luckily we have a handy roster guide for that <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I'm curious to see how you manage to handle capturing the feel of the times while still booking around the mechanics of the game....as always I shall be following closely.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>I'm hoping Kamala & Sika are set to be a regular team.....not because I particularly want to see them as a regular team, but because I don't see Kamala being happy about putting the Stallions over, even if it is Sika taking the fall, and I'm loathed to pick two singles wrestlers over a team if it's just a throwaway match....the Stallions were a good team too. I know Roma gets a lot of flack in the wrestling world, but he's a damn good tag team wrestler.....the Young Stallions, Power and Glory, Pretty Wonderful, all teams I personally enjoyed</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan</strong> vs. Jimmy Jack Funk</p><p>

<em>I hate Jim Duggan, him and his stupid face.....mainly because I don't think I've ever....EVER seen him do the job clean.....in fact 90% of his losses are from him getting himself disqualified, even as late as 1997 and I don't know why he was so protected....but I digress, he's winning here</em></p><p> </p><p>

Junkyard Dog & Tito Santana vs. <strong>King Harley Race & "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff</strong></p><p>

<em>File JYD under Jim Duggan too, can't stand him either......Paul Orndorff however is the sh!t and definitely gets my vote here </em></p>

<p>I guess if everyone else is predicting, then I will too, just to make it look good <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Plus I've had my own 1987 game going on my own time, so it's kinda nice to see what you're doing with the time as well.</p><p> </p><p>

Randy Savage - <em>Definitely your next top star, protect Savage at all costs right now.</em></p><p>

Billy Jerk Haynes - <em>When I was watching some stuff to prepare myself for my own game of it, Bobby Heenan cracked me up when I heard him call him "Billy Jerk" so I've been using it ever since.</em></p><p>

Young Stallions - <em>I know it doesn't play into anything but they hadn't debuted as a team yet so giving them this big win sets them up for big things in the future.</em></p><p>

Jim Duggan - <em>Having just come in from the UWF, Duggan at this time would be a breath of fresh air into the midcard... but in the future, I agree with to4sty about him. And guys similar to him like Piper, JYD, and Bad News Brown.</em></p><p>

King Race and Orndorff - <em>This is a good place for the Heenan Family to sneak a cheap win in.</em></p>

Love the way you kept Prime Time true to form with the format it used during this time period. And I had just watched that Gorilla/Bobby segment a few months back as part of my 80s WWF/NWA watch-through on WWE Network. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
