MR: Hello and welcome to the seventh annual Gold Rush. I’m Michael Riggs and I’m joined in the broadcast booth by the legendary Ricky Dale Johnson and Jasmine Saunders. We are coming to you live from the Theatre of Dreams. Tonight begins the most well-regarded tournament in all of North American professional wrestling. Sixteen men are all vying for the opportunity to raise the Gold Rush Trophy high above their heads. In addition, the North American Heavyweight Champion will be put on the line, the United States Championship, the North American Tag and North American Women’s. It is going to be an epic two nights of professional wrestling. Jasmine, this is your first Gold Rush, what are you most looking forward to?

JS: I’d have to say I’m looking forward to playing the numbers game. I’m a wrestling fan first and foremost, but I’m a statistician second. I filled out my bracket before tonight and I want to know if I’m right.

MR: You filled out a bracket? Who do you have winning?

JS: I have Edward Cornell defeating David Stone in the finals. We’ll find out if I’m right.

RDJ: You very well might be right. I don’t have it quite going down that way I think it’s going to come down to Jeffery Aroma and Matthew Keith.

MR: You guys could be right You could be wrong. There’s only one way to find out and that is to get to the action!

“The Canadian Wrestling Machine” David Stone versus Aztec Prince

The kick off match for the Gold Rush tournament. David Stone and Aztec Prince had a solid opening contest. Prince looked a little out of his element at first, but he seemed to settle into himself within a few minutes. Stone looked very comfortable; however, and was in control for most of the match. He hit a German Suplex with a bridge to get the pinfall and punch his ticket to the next round.

David Stone defeated Aztec Prince in 9:27 by pinfall.

“Glorious” Logan Diaz versus “The Headhunter” Jeffery Aroma w/ Lisa Bowen

This was a very physical contest. Logan Diaz and Aroma went at each other for the entire match up -- not a moment of down time. The former Gold Rush Champion looked excellent as he battered the six-feet-eight inch Jeffery Aroma with some hard strikes and a couple of big slams. It looked like Logan was going to set up for the Belly to Belly Suplex when Lisa Bowen hopped onto the apron. This distracted him long enough for Aroma to hit the Complex Choke Slam and get the victory.

Jeffery Aroma defeated Logan Diaz in 11:19 by pinfall with a Complex Choke Slam after Lisa Bowen interfered.

Greg Keith versus “The Hillbilly Heartthrob” Solomon Gold

Greg Keith made it clear before the start of the tournament that he was looking to make professional wrestling history by becoming the first person to win the Rip Chord Invitational, Sam Keith Classic, Oxford Invitational, and Gold Rush tournament. Solomon Gold made it clear that he was looking to elevate his career, to rise to the next level by defeating a world-class, world-traveled grappler. Gold came out firing. The Hillbilly Heartthrob wrestled exactly like how you would imagine a man who proudly calls himself a hillbilly would wrestle. Lots of fists and knees and kicks. Despite being trained by the Stone Family, he was really playing up that country-boy feel. Greg Keith kept trying to turn the match into a wrestling affair and he was successful. He got Solomon Gold down and locked in the Proton Lock -- which caused Gold to tap out immediately and earned Greg Keith an opportunity in the second round.

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Greg Keith defeated Solomon Gold in 8:07 by submission with a Proton Lock.

“High Flyin’ Hawaiian” James Adams versus Torment w/ Father Grim

James Adams was just overwhelmed in this contest. Torment is a massive man. Layered in muscles and since finding himself aligned with Father Grim he has become a much more vicious man. Adams tried to hit quick and target the base of Torment, but the massive man hit him with big move after big move. He turned James Adams inside out with a big boot that caused Adams to literally backflip and land on his stomach. After hitting a Big Bite, Torment punched his ticket to the second round -- and he might be the most dangerous competitor in the tournament.

Torment defeated James Adams in 6:37 by pinfall with a Big Bite.

CS: The state athletic commission may have changed the match from a Scaffold to a Last Man Standing, but the result is going to be the same, Bulldozer. You’re going to get left in a pile. I’m going to break you. I’m going to break you for everything the man has ever taken from me. Everything they have ever taken from Sayeed or Muvva or Brother G or any other brother out there that’s been held down by the man so that guys like you could advance. Tonight, I’m getting what belongs to me -- and I’m going to take it out of your hide. You can believe that.

Homegrown versus The Fallen w/ Father Grim

Another meeting between two teams filled with big pulls. It’s supposed to be the last meeting between the two duos. The Fallen have been on a roll -- they won the Oxford Invitational and a win here could surely gain them a World’s Tag Title shot. Homegrown has been in a bit of a slump, but a win here could help propel them into title contention -- they are former World and former North American Tag Team Champions. The four men beat the hell out of each other in a very physical match up -- as is common for CWL. Clyde Puder got hit with a big boot right off the ring apron and then Scythe hit Jakob Yoder with an Underworld Spike.

The Fallen defeated Homegrown in 15:01 when Scythe defeated Jakob Yoder by pinfall with an Underworld Spike.

“The Business” Edward Cornell versus Marvel Malloy

Edward Cornell was very well received in his first match on American soil. The Brit gained exposure through 21CW’s International television distribution -- 21CW is the second largest wrestling company in the world. He and Marvel Malloy had a very British World of Sport (minus the rounds) style match. Very technical. Lots of counter wrestling -- and the crowd really enjoyed it. Cornell ended up hitting Malloy with the Black Lightning Bomb and punched his ticket to the second round.

Edward Cornell defeated Marvel Malloy in 9:22 by pinfall with a Black Lightning Bomb.

“The Breeze” Joey Beauchamp versus Cameron Vessey w/ Lisa Bowen

The most experienced man in the tournament - Joey Beauchamp looked every bit a forty-six year old that has been wrestling for close to thirty years. He was really sucking wind by the end of the contest. It also did not seem like he was clicking with Cameron Vessey -- who hit Beauchamp with a Vessey Driver II to get the victory.

Cameron Vessey defeated Joey Beauchamp in 9:42 by pinfall with a Vessey Driver II.

Matthew Keith versus Louie Scorpio

Louie Scorpio, former GWC World Heavyweight Champion definitely had something to prove in wrestling Matthew Keith -- one of the best regarded technical wrestlers in the world. It was a solid match -- and Louie definitely showed how he was able to defeat Gino Montero to become GWC World Heavyweight Champion, but ultimately the Aussie was unable to best Matthew Keith. Keith had a significant size and strength advantage -- and was able to use that to power Scorpio down to the mat and lock in the Proton Lock for the victory.

Matthew Keith defeated Louie Scorpio in 14:18 by submission with a Proton Lock.

Seiji Jimbo versus “The Blue Blood” Paul Huntingdon

Seiji Jimbo’s first appearance in the United States. The nephew of one of the most famous Japanese wrestlers of all time, Seiji came out firing against the nineteen year veteran Paul Huntingdon. Huntingdon ended up raking the eyes and taking control of the match. It was a pretty decent match, but it was clear early on that Seiji hurt his ankle in the beginning of the match. Huntingdon went for a suplex, but Seiji managed to come down on his feet behind him. Seiji rolled Huntingdon up and got the surprise pinfall.

Seiji Jimbo defeated Paul Huntingdon in 14:55 by pinfall with a roll up.

This was a very good match up between two excellent female wrestlers. They really went at it. Alicia really showed that private training with Sensational that has helped make her stand out. Zoe showed while she has been one of the best regarded women’s wrestlers for the last decade and a half. There were several near falls throughout the match -- but Alicia managed to hit the Angel Driver and scored the victory and became the GWC World Women’s Champion.

Alicia Strong defeated Zoe Ammis in 22:21 by pinfall with an Angel Driver. Alicia Strong wins the GWC World Women's title.

BS: I became a professional wrestler because I love the competition. I love the sport of it. I love stepping into a ring and finding out if I’m tougher than the man across the ring from me. It’s simple. It’s raw. Man versus man. The toughest makes it out. It’s a sport, but Cali… You have made it more than that. You’ve made it personal. I’ve never gotten a hand out. I’m where I’m at because I earned it. I busted my ass. Tonight, I’ll prove that to you once and for all when you can’t stand up. When you can’t walk out of this building and I’m still the United States Champion.

Cali Slick w/ Brother G versus “Bulldozer” Brandon Smith ©

Originally, this was supposed to be a scaffold match. Robert Oxford is a noted fan of scaffold matches --but the rumor is that Brandon Smith really did not want to work a scaffold match -- that he felt it was too dangerous of a match up.

Despite now being a Last Man Standing, this match was very good. It was particularly hard hitting. It played into both men’s strengths. Brandon got to be incredibly physical and hit vicious power moves, while Cali got to brawl and show the hardcore ability that made him so popular in Long Beach. At one point, Cali hit a running elbow drop off the ring apron onto Bulldozer who was several feet away on a table.

Bulldozer hit a Back Drop Driver onto the ring apron that almost won him the match, but Cali rolled off the apron onto his feet at nine and the fight continued. They brawled all around the ringside -- and the crowd was really into it. The Theatre of Dreams was rolling with reactions as Cali hit a flying legdrop from the top rope to the floor. Bulldozer hit a running powerslam on Cali Slick that went through the guard rail. Cali was still able to get up.

Cali hit Brandon with a slapjack and then a Slick Back -- right onto the broken piece of guard rail. The combination of the two render the Bulldozer unable to answer the ten count -- and a very battered Cali Slick became a two-time United States Champion.

Cali Slick defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith in a Last Man Standing match in 27:04 when Bulldozer Brandon Smith could not beat a ten count after a Slick-Back. Cali Slick wins the CWL United States title.

Sneaking in between Days 1 and 2 to comment. I've spent the last week catching up on this -- the first diary that has sucked me in since Scapino's back in the day. I love all the render's you are using; one thing that's always hurt my immersion is the 'big heavyweights' looking like scrawny dudes. Can't tell you how long it took me to realize Skull DeBones was supposed to be huge.

Love where you're going. You've got another reader.

David Stone and Jeffery Aroma really put on a show. Aroma used his size advantage to have his way with David, but the former two-time United States Champion used his wrestling ability and speed to keep himself from really getting hammered with too many powerful moves. Stone through several big shots at Aroma and was gaining control when Paul Huntingdon came running down to the ring. This caught David Stone completely off guard. This was a wild match. The Hazard Gang are clear brawlers. Two big rough cowboy types dressed in jeans and boots and big belt buckles. Riley and KC tried to turn it into a wrestling match -- but KC, a pure junior heavyweight, was punished by the significantly larger Hazard Gang for the bulk of the match.</p><p> </p><p> Riley made a big comeback and actually hit Buck with the Slingshot Suplex, but Wes made the big save. Greg Keith came with his ribs taped up from the beating he took from Torment. Aroma looked really motivated. Aroma continued where Torment left off -- punishing Keith’s midsection. He locked him in a bearhug that lasted for well over a minute that Keith eventually fought out of. Aroma stayed on the attack, but Keith mounted a comeback. He hit several big forearms that created some space, a dropkick that almost took the big man off his feet and then he dug down deep and hit a Northern Lights Suplex that he kept the bridge and barely got the three count -- Aroma kicked out just as referee Ray Johnson’s hand hit the mat for three.</p><p> </p><p> In a good match, Greg Keith defeated Jeffery Aroma in 13:45 by pinfall.</p><p> <img alt="e5wmXmn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e5wmXmn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="GNkzKok.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GNkzKok.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Singles Match</strong></p><p> Forty-Five Minute Time Limit</p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Gold Rush Tournament Semi-Finals</span></p><p> <img alt="LqKqiEK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LqKqiEK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XWgjkPi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/XWgjkPi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NzFp27n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NzFp27n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Matthew Keith versus “The Business” Edward Cornell</p><p> </p><p> Another first time ever match up. The two brothers went at it with a sensational technical performance -- but one that also showed the wear and tear of this being their third match of the night. Greg was slower. Favoring his ribs from the punishment he absorbed from Torment and Jeffery Aroma. Matthew was showing the residual punishment from his hard hitting affair with Seiji Jimbo and then his technical, submission best encounter with Edward Cornell.</p><p> </p><p> They threw no closed fists. Some forearms and some European Uppercuts. A couple of chops, but it was primarily a pure wrestling affair. Both brothers pride themselves on being technical savants. Matthew suplexed and slammed his brother -- using his size advantage (he does have an extra twenty pounds of muscle on his frame). Greg flew around for his brother and really sold each suplex and slam like it was killing him. Greg kept fighting up though and kept using his speed -- though with the beatings he had taken it was greatly reduced, to be able to gain advantages.</p><p> </p><p> It was a grueling contest on both men. Greg kept trying to suplex Matthew -- but with his ribs he wasn’t able to get the right snap on it. Eventually though, Greg hit a huge belly to belly suplex and followed that up with a Proton Lock. Matthew was locked in it for what felt like ages. He tried to reverse it -- he knows how to reverse it -- but Greg kept it locked in. The crowd was on their feet waiting to see -- waiting to find out what would happen. After twenty-four minutes of action in the third match of the night, Matthew Keith’s hand slapped the mat in submission. Greg had won.</p><p> </p><p> Greg Keith defeated Matthew Keith in 24:27 by submission with a Proton Lock. Greg Keith wins the Gold Rush title. </p><p> <img alt="ZSlyKQ6.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZSlyKQ6.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Overall</span></strong></p><p> <img alt="e5wmXmn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e5wmXmn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p></div><p></p>

<p>And that's a wrap on the month of August! News and narratives to come, probably tomorrow! I'm really proud of this month worth of shows, particularly the Gold Rush tournament. I knew, truthfully, last year (in game time) at Gold Rush VI that I wanted to have Greg Keith win the tournament. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull it off and I was -- which I'm very happy about.</p><p> </p><p>

I hope you all are still enjoying!</p>

He undid the laces on his belts. It wasn't a difficult process, but it was a process he took his time on. He didn't rush. He was enjoying the moment. This was; after all, his moment. Sure, he was no longer in front of the crowd, but this was still his moment. He had made history. For him, this was as important as winning the World's Championship. He had twice won the Rip Chord Invitational Tournament -- a tournament that was presented by his father. He won his father's Sam Keith Classic in 2016. He won the Oxford Invitational with his brother. Now he had defeated his brother to win the Gold Rush. He had done something no one else had done.</p><p> </p><p>

The Rip Chord Invitational had been going on since 2006 when Mainstream Hernandez won the first one. The Sam Keith Classic had been going on since 2011. This was the seventh Gold Rush -- the Oxford Invitational had five winners. These were prestigious events. Events that meant something in the wrestling world and no one could take away from him that he was the first to win all of them.</p><p> </p><p>

When Greg made his professional debut fourteen years ago, they had said he would be a future World's Champion. They said he would have a Hall of Fame career and then his brother took off. His brother attracted more press, more attention. While Greg was in Mid Atlantic Wrestling, Matthew was in Burning Hammer. Greg was pushing their father's promotion forward while Matthew was pushing his career forward. </p><p> </p><p>

Greg wasn't bitter. He didn't resent Matthew. He would have taken the opportunity too. It just didn't come to him when it came to Matt. Greg pulled double duty. He worked in Golden Canvas and Mid Atlantic -- and then suddenly they were both in Burning Hammer together. For three years. Then North of the Border for two. Now here. Together. Establishing identity as brothers, but this was Greg's own identity.</p><p> </p><p>

He didn't have to share this accomplishment. It was his. And just his.</p>

<p>A wonderful couple of Gold Rush shows, I know I'll have trouble nominating/voting for just one as event of the month <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Brother vs brother was a great story/finale for the tournament and indeed in hindsight, we should have seen it coming. You did set it up and sell it beautifully though, not too much emphasis to telegraph the finals too soon and just enough story for everyone to later realize the ramifications like Greg winning all tournaments and getting out of his brother's shadow. Beautifully executed, sir.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, that Vasquez hype pack was on the money. He needed that narrative and now capitalizing on that has given him the character depth he so desperately needed. I understand CWL is too traditional to present him as a hardcore guy a la Abdullah the Butcher, but even as "just" a simply vicious competitor who revels in violence, he now has my attention. Gotta wonder how Vasquez vs Aroma would play out...</p>

We are coming to you from The Arkansas Coliseum. Last week, Greg Keith made history when he won the Gold Rush tournament and became the first man to have won the Rip Chord Invitational, Sam Keith Classic, Oxford Invitational, and Gold Rush tournaments. The sky is the limit for Greg Keith -- but he and Matthew have been given the night off to heal up from their gruelling schedule over Gold Rush weekend.</p><p> </p><p> RDJ: That’s a wise move by CWL management. </p><ul><li>The American Cobras, James Adams, & Giant Brody have signed contract with Dragon Kingdom Pro Wrestling. The four men were under non-exclusive contracts with CWL, but have signed exclusive deals with DKPW. DKPW Promoter Nobuatso Tatsuko, former CEO of PGHW was said to be estactic with the signing of all four men. The American Cobras and James Adams are said to be cornerstones of a junior heavyweight division that already includes Mystic Dragon, Elemental III and Sensational Dragon with Giant Brody joining a heavyweight division anchored by Funakoshi, Heihachiro Sakai, & Tatsuya Toshitara<br /></li><li> Xavi Ferrera has signed an exclusive contract with TCW. As many people know, I'm a teacher -- and we are going [finally] on our Spring Break. With it, I'm going on my first real vacation in quite some time and will be out of town for about a week and I won't be taking my computer so I won't be making any updates. I will be checking in periodically to see if there questions I can answer (plus the Developer's Journal is supposed to return next week). I'm hoping the week hiatus will also allow people who aren't caught up to get caught up. Feel free to let me know what you think of where we're going, how you're enjoying the diary, etc... <p> </p><p> -- Historian</p></div></blockquote>
