January Week 2 1989

Ultimate Fighting Association

UFA IS BORN

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is upon us. 21 Year Old New York "Business Man" Elijah Barnett has shocked the world of combat and formed The Worlds First Mixed Martial Arts Fighting Promotion. Barnett has (according to himself) been an avid follower of all forms of fighting and has often wondered what type of man it takes to be labelled "The Best Fighter In The World" or as Barnett now phrases it "The Ultimate Fighter".

Barnett comes from a fairly wealthy background and has decided to put his money where his mouth is and back his idea/dream (whatever you wish to call it) and form a promotion which will see all types of combat represented from fighters across the world.

1989 will mark "The Birth of MMA" with Barnett founding UFA (Ultimate Fighting Association), the first ever professional Mixed Martial Arts company (to record, atleast) in the world. Barnett did say that he has plans to host UFA's first event in a few months time (Around February/March) and has promised that the event will showcase some of the greatest talents from around the world.

ULTIMATE FIGHTER ANNOUNCED

Today Elijah Barnett and UFA have officially released a press statement for "The First Ever Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fight Tournament". There have been plenty of rumors flying from across the world and today we can finally address some of them.

Barnett, Founder and Owner of UFA has said that he has scoured the globe looking for "The Best On Offer" from The World Of Combat, but later contradicted himself as he said that his options were tested when fighters declined his offer, with many stating that travelling half way across the world for an "Unknown Company" for a "Glorified Street Fight" was too expensive both financially and at a potential cost to their reputation and health. Confident in himself and his chosen talent, Barnett has released full info on The Tournament rules, and with there being only one rule to adhere to we will recap this in full. There are no rules as Barnett wants to see each fighters full capabilities, so anything goes with each bout being contested over a 15 Minute period. To win you will have to knock out or submit your opponent, with a judges decision the final outcome if no fighter has submitted or been knocked out in the allotted 15 Minutes, although Barnett did say that he expects each Fighter to do everything he can to find a way to finish his opponent. The bouts will be "No Holds Barred" so to speak and will also allow fighters to finish their opponent on the ground with an arsenal of strikes that most other sports consider illegal, soccer punts to a downed opponent for example.

Once a fighter has beaten his opponent he will advance to the next round of the tournament until 1 man reigns supreme. 8 Men have been selected for the tournament, with another 4 who will act as "Alternates" on the chance that a tournament fighter becomes injured or unable to compete. "Alternates" will also compete throughout the night to decide which Fighter will be used (If Required) in The Main Tournament. The Overall Winner will be crowned "The Ultimate Fighter" and have bragging rights over all other Fighters and Combat Disciplines across The World.

<strong>January Week 4 1989</strong></p><p><strong>

Ultimate Fighting Association</strong></p><p><strong>

ULTIMATE FIGHTER DATE CONFIRMED</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Elijah Barnett has confirmed that 'The Ultimate Fighter' Will take place March Week 2 1989, in Nevada. The brackets have been announced and the competitors have commenced their training regime in a bid to become 'The Ultimate Fighter'. 4 First round bouts will be followed by 2 Semi Finals and then The Ultimate Fighter Finale, where one man will earn the prestigious honour and become 'The Ultimate Fighter'. Barnett continued that there were originally two "Alternate Bouts" scheduled for the night but Dan Halvorsen has been forced to withdraw from the event after breaking his arm during training. His opponent Rick Stanley agreed to cancel the bout ahead of fight night instead of looking for a potential replacement opponent. Barnett said that he was very excited by the prospect of both of these men competing, and as unfortunate as it was he respects Stanleys decision and hopes to be able to put both fighters to use at future UFA events.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

James Foster 230lbs [0-0] vs Greg Atteveld 192lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Foster is a World Calibre Wrestler who is also accomplished in Jiu Jitsu. Combine that with his weight advantage over his opponent Greg Atteveld and you can see why the 22 year old from Illinois is the early favorite to become "The Ultimate Fighter". However Atteveld is not to be scoffed at with his high honours im Jiu Jitsu plus the experienced gained from the added age at 11 years the senior. If Atteveld can secure a spot in the next round by defeating Foster then surely he cannot be overlooked to win the whole tournament.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Perren Ventre 255lbs [0-0] vs Eugene Clough 268lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Ventre may only be 18, but The Canadian Heavyweight looks to have a bright future in combat sports having trained in Greco-Roman Wrestling. Eugene Clough will have an approximate 20lb advantage over Ventre and will look to use his size and Wrestling ability to slow down his fellow Canadian and grind out a win.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Sean Morrison 175lbs [0-0] vs Geoff Cahill 182lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Morrison enters the tournament as the lightest competitor at 175lbs but his World Renowned Wrestling and advanced submissions should secure him the victory over Cahill who offers little other than pure heart and striking ability. Cahill will be looking to keep Morrison at bay by using his height advantage and some clever strikes as he searches for a knockout victory.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Mac Fuller 196lbs [0-0] vs Mark Cohen 216lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>New Yorker, Fuller is an accomplished Boxer who likes to look for The Big Hits that will most certainly end his opponents night early. The man trying to stop that will be Mark Cohen, a Light Heavyweight who thrives under pressure. If Cohen can get on top of Fuller early then he may find himself on the opposite end of a "Big Hit" as Cohen is a fan of the "Ground and Pound" fight style.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Frank Analysis 233lbs [0-0] vs Jeff Carlton 256lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Analysis and Carlton will compete after all of the main fight first round bouts if there has been no fighters injured or unable to compete at the start of the night. If this is the case then one of these two will step in where needed, if not then they will fight against each other as they battle inside the cage with Carlton taking a heavy early lead as the book makers favourite between the these two.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Perren Ventre/Eugene Clough will face James Foster/Greg Atteveld In Semi Final 1</em></p><p><em>

Geoff Cahill/Sean Morrison will face Mac Fuller/Mark Cohen in Semi Final 2</em></p><p><em>

The Winner of each Semi Final will advance to The Main Event where The First Ever "Ultimate Fighter" will be decided.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<em>Elijah Barnett has been recorded saying that he feels there are a couple of strong runners for the tournament, but in a battle decided not only by discipline, but also experience, size and skill...this tournament could be anyones for the taking, as it can just take one second to change the outcome of a fight. Barnett promises the crowd a night like no other and hopes that the event will be one of many more to come. Mixed Martial Arts has a long way to go if its to ever be as popular as other sports such as "Professional Wrestling" and Boxing, but Barnett and The UFA have certainly started on a high so far.</em></p>

UFA have today released details of Sean Morrisons back injury. The fighter has been deemed fit to compete in 2 weeks time and is said to be looking forward to being back to full training. March Week 2 1989

Ultimate Fighting Association

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER RESULTS

First Round Bout

James Foster 230lbs [0-0] vs Greg Atteveld 192lbs [0-0]

The weight difference was obvious to begin as the favourite made light work of his opponent. Attevelds clinch was his downfall as this allowed Foster to sweep the leg and take the fight to the ground. After giving up his back and blocking Fosters first Rear Naked attempt, Atteveld allowed Foster to get both hooks in and was unable to block Fosters second attempt and quickly signalled his submission.

James Foster defeats Greg Atteveld Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in 4:32 of round 1

First Round Bout

Perren Ventre 255lbs [0-0] vs Eugene Clough 268lbs [0-0]

Ventre came out wanting to grapple but a few swift jabs to distract saw him victim of a leg sweep. Much like the first bout, this was over as soon as it hit the ground and the larger Clough secured the second Rear Naked Choke submission of the night.

Eugene Clough defeats Perren Ventre Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in 2:00 of round 1

First Round Bout

Sean Morrison 175lbs [0-0] vs Geoff Cahill 182lbs [0-0]

Cahill towered over his opponent but height didn't matter too much as Morrison immediately went for a takedown with success. Cahill did his best to slow down Morrison, but his high calibre wrestling was on full show as he managed to eventually get Cahills back. Cahill's strength only delayed the finish as he pulled off multiple Rear Naked Choke attempts. Morrison hits a few clean shots which allows him space to get his arm under the chin of Cahill and flatten him. Cahill had no plans of submitting and it took everything Morrison had to finish his opponent, who refused to tap and and passed out.The Third Rear Naked Choke finish of the night. A great performance from Morrison who leas than 3 weeks ago was in doubt of being able to compete tonight.

Sean Morrison defeats Geoff Cahill Technical Submission in 7:23 of round 1

First Round Bout

Mac Fuller 196lbs [0-0] vs Mark Cohen 216lbs [0-0]

Fuller hit the blocks hot as he pummelled Cohen with quick punch after punch. It wasn't long before Cohen wobbled and Fuller looked to finish, but was unable as Cohen shook off the damage. Cohen manages to maintain Fuller from the bottom and the referee eventually brought them back to their feet. A single leg sees Cohen now gain control as he throws punch after punch whilst lay on top of Fuller. Fuller this time holds Cohen from attacking and the referee again brings the fighters to their feet. The rest of the bout saw both fighters remain on their feet as fatigue kicked in. A war ensued with both fighters taking as many punches as they landed. A gash appears underneath the left eye of Cohen as they continued to strike. The bell rang for the end of 15 Minutes and the result went to the judges decision.

Mac Fuller defeats Mark Cohen Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1

Alternate Bout

Frank Analysis 233lbs [0-0] vs Jeff Carlton 256lbs [0-0]

Cartlon comes in with about 20lb on Analysis, who decides to ignore Carltons offer to touch gloves. An unmatched takedown sees Carlton soon in control attempting an arm triangle, which Analysis escapes from. A second submission attempt saw Carlton's arm slip out of his Kimura and Analysis survives, attempting to slow down his opponent. Its not long before Carlton gets a mount and reigns down blow after blow, knocking Analysis out for the win.

Jeff Carlton defeats Frank Analysis Knockout Punch in 3:20 of round 1

Semi Final Bout

James Foster 230lbs [1-0] vs Eugene Clough 268lbs [1-0]

Foster gives up a major size disadvantage as he begins with a tirade of jabs followed by crosses. He throws one last jab and winces as it lands, he's clearly in pain. He takes down Clough with a huge drive, perhaps out of desperation. Immediately he fights into mount and throws multiple hard elbows. The referee pushes him off as he calls for the end of the fight. Foster has beat Clough but by doing so it looks as though he has injured himself.

James Foster defeats Eugene Clough TKO Strikes in 2:28 of round 1

Semi Final Bout

Mac Fuller 196lbs [1-0] vs Sean Morrison 175lbs [1-0]

Again Morrison finds himself at a 20lb disadvantage for this Semi Final Bout. Fuller looked very confident as he closed the gap with a barrage of strikes, but was unfortunately taken down by Morrison with perfect timing. Once on top Morrison was in full control, moving from position to position, eventually allowing him to dig his heels in and apply another deadly Rear Naked Choke. Fuller had no option but to tap out. Morrison will take on Foster in the final.

Sean Morrison defeats Mac Fuller Submission Rear Naked Choke in 6:30 of round 1

Final Bout

James Foster 230lbs [2-0] vs Sean Morrison 175lbs [2-0]

Both Fighters took to the cage with their team, in a bizarre turn of events James Foster has forfeited the match due to injury. The Referee announces that Sean Morrison wins the bout and becomes "The Ultimate Fighter". The crowd do not sound too happy with tonights climax.

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER PRESS CONFERENCE</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Elijah Barnett thanks the crowd who attended The Ultimate Fighter and for all those who have shown interest. He co granulated Sean Morrison on a great night and announces him as 'The Ultimate Fighter'. The questions are firing from the press as Elijah foes his best to address them all. He did say that although the final took a twist and he knows the fans wanted to see a fight... it was a twist that could not be helped as James Foster has a broken wrist after his fight with Eugene Clough. He commends both Foster and Morrison for the performances and says that Morrison shown his heart by not pulling out when he was recommended to a few weeks before the event.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Morrison was fully fit when he arrived at the event as was Foster, but the medics and his team would not allow him to compete in the final despite him wishing otherwise. Barnett said that he had spoken with Morrison privately and although they both acknowledge what has unfolded here tonoght, Morrison says that he would like to have been able to prove himself in the final. With that Barnett announced plans for a second event 'The Ultimate Fighter 2' where Morrison will return in hopes of victory once again. The press bombarded Barnett with questions about the next event but he managed to shut them down as he said there is alot to discuss. He thanked the crowd once again, praised all of the fighters involved and wished everyone a speedy recovery, finishing the conference by saying that UFA will return soon before he left.</em></p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Sean Morrison 175lbs [3-0] vs Jim Carpenter 170lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>"The Ultimate Fighter" Sean Morrison returns to UFA in hopes of proving himself this time around. Morrison has said that he wasn't happy with the outcome of the last final and wants to show what he is capable of against the best opponents. Jim Carpenter will head over from England and will be tasked with taking on "The Ultimate Fighter" in the first round. Carpenter will have the odd against him and will need to fight clever to avoid Morrisons vice-like Guillotines.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Perren Ventre 255lbs [0-1] vs Yee Tsuji 145lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Ventre returns to The Tournament after a heavy loss to Eugene Clough at The Ultimate Fighters first event. He will look to better his previous performance against Yee Tsuji, a brawler from The Philippines who will be on the lookout for an early knockout. </em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [1-0] vs Brycen Hower 183lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Carlton took part as an alternate at the first event and made light work of Frank Analysis, finishing with a mounted TKO. He has expressed excitement for The Tournament and expects to become "The Ultimate Fighter" in his first attempt. Brycen Hower will be much smaller than his opponent, but we know size does not always matter. The Karate trained fighter will be looking to wear his opponent down with his speed. Hower has been tipped to have a big future ahead of him.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Dan Halvorsen 170lbs [0-0] vs Rick Stanley 242lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p><em>

This match was originally scheduled as an "Alternate Bout" for the first event, but was later cancelled after Halvorsen broke his arm. The bout has now been scheduled to take part within The Ultimate Fighter 2 Tournament. Wrestler vs Kick Boxer will showcase each mans strengths as they look to expose the others discipline. Expect Stanley to want to keep this stood up, with Halvorsen looking to take it to the ground.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Stafford Alois 260lbs [0-0] vs Solomon Austin 272lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p><em>

Alois is an accomplished Kick Boxer from England who likes to aim for Heavy Head Shots, it will remain to be seen if the larger Austin can move away from said shots and close the gap to use his size advantage. Both fighters will be on reserve for The Main Tournament.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Special Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Mac Fuller 196lbs [1-1] vs Mantas Andreyev 205lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>In the first of its kind, Mac Fuller will compete against Russias Andreyev. Fuller will face his opponent infront of his home crowd in New York. Andreyev was originally scheduled to be an alternate but upon Fullers request he agreed to face the home town star. Fuller has told various media outlets that he wanted to assure The New York Crowd the best night possible night, especially after the last events final's were a let down for the crowd. Andreyev will hope to upset Fuller's home show, and should not be underestimated. The Sambo specialist found and runs his own gym in Russia and a win here will boost his credentials within the sport of combat.</em></p>

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 2 RESULTS</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Sean Morrison 175lbs [3-0] vs Jim Carpenter 170lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Unable to finish his opponent a long drawn out 15 minutes of hard work followed for "The Ultimate Fighter" Sean Morrison. Morrison worked tirelessly against the cage and on the mat. Carpenter gave almost zero in terms of attack and spent the whole round defending himself. A decision victory for Sean Morrison, but how will the extra minutes effect him in the next round?</em></p><p><em>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Perren Ventre 255lbs [0-1] vs Yee Tsuji 145lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>This fight eventually turned out to be something special. The first few minutes were very lackluster with alot of time spent up against the cage. Eventually going to ground, Ventre tried with all his might to finish Tsuji with both submission attempts and strikes but the much lighter Tsuji managed to bring the fight back with a blistering right hook that almost ended Ventre, only saving himself with a panicked sweep. The second fight of the night to end in a decision, and Tsuji was found himself very unfortunate to have not been named the winner, especially against a much bigger fighter.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Perren Ventre defeats Yee Tsuji Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1</span></em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [1-0] vs Brycen Hower 183lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Carltons size advantage proved too much for the young Hower, although he did give it his best attempt to knock down the heavier man, even opening up his eye within the first minute. Although that proved to be the turning point as Carlton then went for the take down, maneuvered and attempted mount, Hower rolled instead and gave up his back. That was the end as Carlton took the victory with a Rear Naked.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Jeff Carlton defeats Brycen Hower Submission Rear Naked Choke in 2:45 of round 1</span></em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Dan Halvorsen 170lbs [0-0] vs Rick Stanley 242lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Again, the size difference here was visible to the end as Stanley and Halvorsen went toe to toe for 11 minutes. Surprisingly Halvorsen did not attempt to show of his Wrestling ability as he decided to take Stanley on his feet. Stanley took a beating, but his zombie like ability to take a punch meant he kept pushing forwards and eventually a right hook ended Halvorsens night.</em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Stafford Alois 260lbs [0-0] vs Solomon Austin 272lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>It was goodnight for Austin early on as Alois pummeled him with punch after punch. The Sluggish Solomon went down after a right hook and Alois jumped straight in with the attacks, only for the referee to intervene and end the bout. Alois looked very impressive here tonight.</em></p><p><em>

<strong>Semi Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Sean Morrison 175lbs [4-0] vs Perren Ventre 255lbs [1-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>Ventre refused to touch gloves and immediately regretted the decision as he took a left hook. It was clear that he had little left in the tank compared to Morrison, despite the latter going a full 15 minutes in his previous fight. Within 2 minutes it was over as the exhausted Ventre tapped out to an armbar.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Sean Morrison defeats Perren Ventre Submission Armbar in 2:02 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Semi Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Rick Stanley 242lbs [1-0] vs Jeff Carlton 256lbs [2-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Carlton defeated his last opponent in less than 3 minutes, and clearly wanted to show what he is capable of here as he defeated Stanley in less than 2. Immediately taking him down and pounding away until the referee had seen enough, Stanley had no defense and was taking shot after shot. Carlton will head into the final with less than 5 minutes fight time under his belt tonight.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Jeff Carlton defeats Rick Stanley TKO Strikes in 1:24 of round 1</span></em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

<strong>Special Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Mac Fuller 196lbs [1-1] vs Mantas Andreyev 205lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Andreyev began slow and looked as though the fear of getting hit was stopping him from advancing. A beautiful combo from Fuller saw him land a jab, right body hook followed by a second jab and a right uppercut. Andreyev was down and Fuller unloaded getting the stoppage. Fuller went wild for the Home Town fans.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Mac Fuller defeats Mantas Andreyev TKO Strikes in 1:06 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [3-0] vs Sean Morrison 175lbs [5-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Morrison and Carlton were heavy favorites to meet here in the final and Carlton looked to start on top as he took Morrison down. Not much happened though as the referee brought them to their feet again. Carlton successfully takes Morrison down for 2 out of 2 attempts, but Morrison began to position quickest and soon found Carlton giving up his back. We had mentioned Morrison's prolific skills with submission and Carlton had no option but to tap. Morrison has once again become "The Ultimate Fighter".</em></p><p><em>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 3 CARD ANNOUNCED

Alternate Bout

Greg Atteveld 192lbs [0-1] vs Mario De Souza 194lbs [0-0]

Atteveld returns to the fold after competing at The Ultimate Fighter 1 where he found a heavy loss against favorite James Foster. De Souza is a Brazlian national who is accomplished in BJJ and will look to capitalize on Attevelds previous poor showing.

First Round Bout

Ricardo Fernandes 174lbs [0-0] vs Veeti Kuqi 272lbs [0-0]

Fernandes comes into this match with a huge weight disadvantage aginst Kuqi, but brings a mean Muay Thai set to ade him in victory. Fernandes joins the current trend in Brazlians who have moved to America in a bid to take part in this tournament, much like Kuqi who travels from Finland, Europe.

First Round Bout

Mac Fuller 196lbs [2-1] vs Matthew Dean 205lbs [0-0]

Fuller has impressed so with, with his only loss coming against Sean Morrison. He fought in his home town at TUF2 and defeated his opponent with ease. Fuller feels this is his tournament to win, but new boy Matthew Dean will oppose that opinion. Dean is a hometown fighter for this event and with his big skill set behind him, he looks an early favorite to reach the finals.

First Round Bout

Zaco 203lbs [0-0] vs Lars Bohlin 154lbs [0-0]

Both Zaco and Bohin are very similar in skills within this match up, with accomplished skills in wrestling this could be a long bout that is predicted to go to a judges decision. Both men will need to finish this or potentially risk emptying their tanks before the next round. Zaco travels from Brazil and Bohlin from Sweden.

First Round Bout

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [3-1] vs Harry Milne 236lbs [0-0]

Carlton is the front runner to win this tournament after reaching the finals of the previous, losing only to Sean Morrison and also impressively defeats Analysis at TUF1. Milne travels from Bolton, England. Both similar in size, Milner will enter with a 20lb defecit. Carlton will look to finish his opponent on the ground, but will first need to break through Milnes wrestling arsenal.

Ultimate Fighting Association

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 3 RESULTS

Alternate Bout

Greg Atteveld 192lbs [0-1] vs Mario De Souza 194lbs [0-0]

De Souza dominated this alternate bout from start to finish, everytime Atteveld tried to counter or reverse, De Souza was one step ahead. Eventually taking the win after causing Atteveld to give us his back.

Mario de Souza defeats Greg Atteveld Submission Rear Naked Choke in 10:34 of round 1

First Round Bout

Ricardo Fernandes 174lbs [0-0] vs Veeti Kuqi 272lbs [0-0]

The huge weight difference was visible, Kuqi displayed a great difference in strenght, which meant the lighter Fernandes struggled to take down Kuqi and maintain. Kuqi seemingly struggled more so as he was successful in none of his 7 take down attempts. Fernandes however didnt let the weight control the pace from a standing position as he planted jab after jab, keeping Kuqi at a safe enough distance to not be over powered. Late in the third of the fight both men looked tired and Fernandes more so, due to having to deal with the extra 95lbs when Kuqi dominated on the mat.

Ricardo Fernandes defeats Veeti Kuqi Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1

First Round Bout

Mac Fuller 196lbs [2-1] vs Matthew Dean 205lbs [0-0]

Fuller came in with a huge amount of experience over his opponent, but it was not to be. After taking the advantage early on by landing a majority of the punches thrown, he soon found himself rocked and backing up to the cage. Dean saw his opportunity and threw a barrage of strikes. A huge right hook sent Fuller rocking again and the referee had no option but to step in and call the fight. Dean looked like an animal in those last few moments.

Matthew Dean defeats Mac Fuller TKO Strikes in 6:45 of round.

First Round Bout

Zaco 203lbs [0-0] vs Lars Bohlin 154lbs [0-0]

Brazilian Zaco had a 50lb advantage over Bohlin and this was obvious throughout the bout. Bohlin managed to land less than half of the amount of punches thrown by Zaco but did manage to hold his own throughout Zaco's domination. Zaco looked to control Bohlin on the mat tight against the cage, but it looked as though perhaps this was a way for him to rest as he began to look very fatigued in the last few minutes. 15 Minutes passed in an average at best fight and it went to judges decision.

Zaco defeats Lars Bohlin Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1.

First Round Bout

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [3-1] vs Harry Milne 236lbs [0-0]

Carlton reached the Finals at the last tournament and was a heavy favourite to defeat Milne and managed to cut him within the first minute after a huge right hand. Milne then managed to clinch with Carlton and then successfully take him down, immediately finding the mount position. Milne pounded away as the referee rushed over to push him off Carltons limp body. A Huge upset here.

Harry Milne defeats Jeff Carlton Knock Out Punch in 2:50 of round 1.

Semi Final Bout

Matthew Dean 205lbs [1-0] vs Ricardo Fernandes 174lbs [1-0]

Dean's confidence returned as the crowd cheered for their home town boy. Fernandes looked tired from the word go, which is what 15 Minutes with Kuqi will do to a man. The fight was very even, in terms that Dean threw strikes and Fernandes blocked them, too tired to throw his own. Another Decision looked likely until Dean turned it up a notch with just 1 Minute left on the clock. It took a 15 second barrage for the referee to call it, Fernandes was just too tired to block any more. Matthew Dean will advance to the finals.

Matthew Dean defeats Ricardo Fernandes TKO Strikes in 14:15 of round 1.

Semi Final Bout

Zaco 203lbs [1-0] vs Harry Milne 236lbs [1-0]

Much like his fellow Brazlian, Zaco stepped in against an opponent who had spent a considerably less amount of time in the cage as he. Milne was on form in his previous bout against Carlton and looked to head into The Final fresh knowing that Matthew Dean had just fought a 14 Minute Semi Final Bout. But it wasnt to be, Zaco found a second wind and looked almost as fresh as the beginning of his first fight of the night. Another bout on the records that headed to a decision after a long drawn out 15 Minutes. Zaco spent most of his time on the defense, which wasnt enough to take the win.

Harry Milne defeats Zaco Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1.

Final Bout

Harry Milne 236lbs [2-0] vs Matthew Dean 205lbs [2-0]

Harry Milne immediately came out on the offense looking to finish Dean, knowing he had spent alot of energy on his Semi Final bout with Zaco. Moving forwards, pushing Dean back into the cage. Time passed as the two played chess with eachother against the cage side, ending only when Dean managed to slip the clinch. He could see that Milne was tired and pounced forward with a left jab, Milne fell and it was all over from there. Dean jumped onto his opponent, punch after punch. A Failed Kimura from Dean saw Milne give up his back, not long after the bout was over.

Matthew Dean defeats Harry Milne Submission Rear Naked Choke in 5:10 of round 1.

Ultimate Fighting Association</strong></p><p><strong>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 3 PRESS CONFERENCE</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Matthew Dean was in attendance and he thanked his home town crowd for having his back as he became only the second man to become "The Ultimate Fighter". Elijah Barnett congratulated all of the fighters, and welcomed Dean to a very small club of men that can say they are "The Best In The World". When asked about the future of Dean and Sean Morrison within the tournament, Barnett said that they will both return as soon as humanly possible, as will The Ultimate Fighter, atleast once more before the year is out. Barnett thanked the crowd in attendance and promised them that the future of Combat Sports is infact within the confinement of an Eight Sided Cage under the UFA Banner. Upon being asked about possible tournament entrants for upcoming events, Barnett decided to give as little possible information away, but did say that James Foster was once again fit after breaking his wrist in The Final of The Ultimate Fighter 1.</em></p>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 4 DETAILS</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Wasting no time, Elijah Barnett has today confirmed The Ultimate Fighter 4 for late November. So far two men have became The Ultimate Fighter, Sean Morrison twice and Matthew Dean at TUF3. Barnett confirmed that neither will take part at Novembers event, but TUF1 Finalist and then favourite James Foster will return from injury. Foster was looked at by many as being the man to lead the sport, but a broken wrist forced him to forfeit at TUF1. Foster has since said that being "The Ultimate Fighter" is his destiny, and once he wins TUF4 he wants to do what he knows he could have done if things played out differently at TUF1 and beat Sean Morrison.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Barnett confirmed the return of Geoff Cahill and Mark Cohen who both competed at TUF1 aswell as Frank Analysis and Brycen Hower, who will compete against eachother having both suffered a loss to Jeff Carlton. Mantas Andreyev will also compete.</em></p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Yee Tsuji 145lbs [0-1] vs Stafford Alois 260lbs [1-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Tsuji said he was keen to prove himself after his debut loss, but has drawn a very tough opponent in Brit Stafford Alois who was impressive in his first bout.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Gunnar Nilsson 265lbs [0-0] vs Mantas Andreyev 205lbs [0-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>Nilsson debuts here whilst Andreyev will need an impressive victory after disappointing in his debut. Mantas was touted as a great fighter but fell to Fuller and has lost a whole heap of hype. </em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jim Carpenter 170lbs [0-1] vs Eugene Clough 268lbs [1-1]</strong></p><p>

<strong>October Week 1 1989</strong></p><p><strong>

Ultimate Fighting Association</strong></p><p><strong>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 4 RESULTS</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Geoff Cahill 170lbs [0-1] vs Mark Cohen 205lbs [0-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>Cohen immediately looked as though he was to attempt a takedown, but decided against it as Cahill threw a couple of set up shots before landing a sublime right hook. Cohen was rocked and Cahill pounced. The referee dashed in and it was over. 27 seconds.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Geoff Cahill defeats Mark Cohen KO Strikes in 0:27 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Frank Analysis 233lbs [0-1] vs Brycen Hower 183lbs [0-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>A huge weight advantage became the difference here. Hower looked sprite but after a few heavy blows he began to tire early on. A huge right hook landed and Howers nose opened up, clearly broken. Hower's breathing slumped and he looked very ragged in between strikes. Another hard punch landed and Hower was on his back. The referee intervened for the second of two fights so far tonight.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Frank Analysis defeats Brycen Hower TKO Strikes in 2:16 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Yee Tsuji 145lbs [0-1] vs Stafford Alois 260lbs [1-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Yee gave up 100lbs here, but didnt look too phased as he set out to prove himself, which he did. Tsuji gave everything he could, never backing down from the barrages of strikes from Alois. However this didnt phase Alois, who saw Tsuji tire. On three consecutive attacks Tsuji missed a combo, finally allowing for Alois to counter with a wicked upper cut. Tsuji wasnt out yet but found himself unable to defend the incoming attacks and again the referee intervened for the third TKO of the night.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Stafford Alois defeats Yee Tsuji TKO Strikes in 7:41 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Gunnar Nilsson 265lbs [0-0] vs Mantas Andreyev 205lbs [0-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>In what is considered to be a poor bout, Nilsson and Andreyev fought a very slow fight. A lot of time spent on the ground for both men. Smothering their opponents and watching the time go by. Andreyev would have benefited by attacking at a faster pace after such a poor first bout against Fuller but did not. The timer ran down.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Gunnar Nilsson defeats Mantas Andreyev Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jim Carpenter 170lbs [0-1] vs Eugene Clough 268lbs [1-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>The much heavier Clough spent most of his time trying to take down Carpenter, but Carpenter was quicker and managed to avoid each attempt and follow with a nice striking attack. Clough did however spend a minute or so dirty boxing Carpenter against the cage, but his smaller opponent was able to free himself. After a brilliant start to the night, this was the second match in a row to end in a decision.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Jim Carpenter defeats Eugene 'The Bear' Clough Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Elgar 199lbs [0-0] vs James Foster 230lbs [2-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>After an initial 30 second sizing up period, Foster went straight for the takedown. Successfully managed to move to full mount and landed a deadly elbow to the head. Followed instantly by a barrage of punches, the first round ended as the night had begun with the referee intervening once again.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">James Foster defeats Elgar TKO Strikes in 1:36 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Semi Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Gunnar Nilsson 265lbs [1-0] vs Stafford Alois 260lbs [2-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>For the first time tonight the referee has to tell both men to restart as over 2 minutes passed by in stalemate against the cage. Stafford is known to be a finisher and Nilsson has defending this by grinding out the clock by again smothering Alois against the cage, slowing applying a few body strikes. Alois shuffles away and after a moment to settle he lands a huge right hook knocking Nilsson to the ground. After a few more minutes on the ground, and against the cage the bout is over. Nillsson controlled the fight but did not do too much in terms of attack whereas Alois was the most aggressive. The decision was in.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">Stafford Alois defeats Gunnar Nilsson Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Semi Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

James Foster 230lbs [3-1] vs Jim Carpenter 170lbs [1-1] </strong></p><p>

<em>Carpenter did very little throughout the fight other than remain conscious. Foster landed multiple takedowns along with barrages of attacks from above and on the mat. For the first time in his career though Foster had to rely on a decision as Carpenter would not go down.</em></p><p><em>

</em><em><span style="color:#FF0000;">James Foster defeats Jim Carpenter Unanimous Decision in 15:00 of round 1</span></em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

James Foster 230lbs [4-1] vs Stafford Alois 260lbs [3-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Foster is technically undefeated as his only loss came by way of forefeit and Alois also enter undefeated. Alois looked completely shattered early on but managed to defend himself. Once again Foster struggled to finish his opponent even after landing almost every one of his strikes thrown. Using his jab to try and set up takedowns. For the second time in his career and tonight, Foster relied on decision after being unable to finish an opponent that looked ready to stop.</em></p><p><em>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 4 PRESS CONFERENCE</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Things became heated at the post fight conferences after Foster claimed he would have become the first ever "ultimate fighter" if he did not suffer an injury. Morrison was in attendance and shunned Fosters claims by comparing his performances tonight. Morrison said that Foster would be lucky to even see 15 minutes in a cage with him before the two were forced to seperate.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Barnett settled the commotion and finished the conferences by announcing the first event of 1990, "The Ultimate Fighter 5" mid January. He confirmed that none of the previous winners would compete and we would have a brand new "Ultimate Fighter" crowned. When asked why the likes of Dean and Morrison would not take part, he simply answered that he has a plan moving forwards. UFA have always prided their selves on showcasing the best of the best vs the best of the best and would speak more about this sometime in the future.</em></p>

<strong>January Week 1 1990</strong></p><p><strong>

Ultimate Fighting Association</strong></p><p><strong>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE ULTIMATE</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Today in a press conference Elijah Barnett announced the future plans of the UFA, detailed out as follows. Morrison became "The Ultimate Fighter" twice, followed by Dean and then Foster. The Ultimate Fighter 5 has been kept a secret until now but was confirmed for Mid January. Barnett said that although the participants were not released sales were still through the roof and the full bout card will be released as soon as his conference was over. The Winner as previously mentioned will not have been someone who has won before, thus giving a fourth champion. Barnett continued that the plan is to have all four Ultimate Fighters compete in a 4 man tournament, to crown the official "Ultimate Ultimate", the best of the best, hence why Dean and Morrison have not had the call for TUF5.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Jeff Carlton will return after tasting The finals at TUF2, as will Zaco, Bingwen Park and Perren Ventre. Mac Fuller will also return after missing TUF4, but will not compete as part of the tournament. Full card details to follow.</em></p>

Ultimate Fighting Association</strong></p><p><strong>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 5 CARD</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternate Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Francesco Marazzina 145lbs [0-0] vs Angelino Cascone 184lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>An Interesting opening bout sees the debut of both men, both from Italy with very different styles. Cascone carries a big weight advantage.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Bingwen Park 179lbs [0-0] vs Zaco 185lbs [1-1]</strong></p><p>

<em>Park is highly expected to be a big name, but going up against the slightly heavier Zaco could prove to be harder than he would have liked for his debut.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Yevgeni Sipatov 170lbs [0-0] vs Mario de Souza 185lbs [1-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>de Souza defeated his last opponent via RNC, but may struggle against Sipatov who is known to keep his opponents down on the mat and grind a win out. de Souza will need to look to slip a submission or stay on his feet.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Perren Ventre 241lbs [1-2] vs Ernest Hord 201lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Ventre has been in two amazing fights, and his loss comes via Sean Morrison. Hord is a lot lighter and this will be a clash of the wrestlers. Hord will need to work hard to out weight Ventres larger frame.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>First Round Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Jeff Carlton 256lbs [3-2] vs Rob Baines 185lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Carlton was knocked out quite earlier in his last bout against Milne, and has also tapped out to Sean Morrison, but with the ability to damage himself Debutant Baines will need to prove he belongs in this tournament.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alternative Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Rick Stanley 242lbs [1-1] vs Jack Cobblepot 265lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>Zaco smashed the jaw of Park within a minute after two combo exchanges, Park then looked scared to interact. <em>A bout that remained on feet until the last couple of minutes. <em>Hord controlled this bout from start to finish, using the cage to his advantage at every possible opportunity. Ventre emptied the tank quite early as he struggled with Hords wrestling ability. Hord regained any control from Ventre with some ugly looking foot stomps, causing Ventre to wince which allowed Hord to retake the dominant position. <em>Another decision victory ensued as neither men looked capable of finishing the other. Mac Fuller 185lbs [2-2] vs Tony McCall 232lbs [0-0]</strong></p><p>

<em>2 Minutes in McCall sustained a gash below the eye, which again opened up 5 minutes in. The bout was stopped momentarily as the doctors gave the ok for McCall to continue. A stand out battle followed with both me swinging, tiring and missing. Counters began to cause the damage as McCall set up a right cross with a simple jab approach. Fuller was down and out.</em></p><p>

<strong>Final Bout</strong></p><p><strong>

Zaco 185lbs [3-1] vs Jeff Carlton 256lbs [5-2]</strong></p><p>

<em>Carlton had the experience of being in a final once before but both men were looking tired. As most of the nights bout went, this was a familiar fight. Alot of time spent against the cage and on the mat, time ticking. Little punches were thrown for Zaco, with over 50 by Carlton on the floor alone, albeit none with any real venom. 15 Minutes passed in a deflating final bout.</em></p><p><em>

UFA: THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 5 PRESS CONFERENCE</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Elijah Barnett congratulated Carlton on his Tournament win, but did apologies to the fans for the nights results. A lot of bouts ended in a decision, a style of fighting that Barnett has been trying to avoid. Asked about the next planned event, Barnett said that he aimed to pit each of the four "Ultimate Fighters" against each other in an event known as "The Ultimate Ultimate". Morrison, Dean, Foster and Carlton would compete in a four man tournament to decide the best fighter. He didn't disclose if this would be a one night tournament, but did say that plans were going ahead for the event to take place sometime in march.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Lets look back at how the four "Ultimate Fighters" came to.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Sean Morrison won the tournament both at TUF1 and TUF2. The first after James Foster was forced to forfeit due to a broken wrist, the second after submitting Jeff Carlton at TUF2. Morrison has long been the favourite for any fight he has entered the cage to compete, and looks a heavy favorite here not only remaining undefeated, but also defeating Foster and Carlton to do so.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

TUF3 saw the rise of Matthew Dean, who is also undefeated after finishing all three opponents, two by Strikes and one Submission.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

James Foster returned at TUF4 but a lack luster showing was not how he had planned his route to becoming The Ultimate Fighter.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

TUF5, Jeff Carlton returned to the final for a second time and walked away the victor after 2 decisions and 1 submission. Carlton may look the least favored here, but he has shown that he has the ability to be one of the best.</em></p>

<em>News has broken today that James Foster has removed himself from competition in the sport of MMA. Foster is a world class wrestler and has decided to focus on qualifying for The Olympics. Whilst UFA Owner Elijah Barnett has said he supports the decision, his plans for "The Ultimate Ultimate" tournament are now in pieces with only 3 competitors available.</em></p>
