Olympic Medalist Returns To MMA

Just a day before UFA holds its First Heavyweight Championship Defence when Hassan Fezzik takes on Jonah Funk, former "Ultimate Fighter" James Foster announces that he will be returning to MMA after earning Bronze at The Olympics. Foster last fought at TUF4 back in 1989 where he became "The Ultimate Fighter" beating Stafford Alois. He was scheduled to enter "The Ultimate Ultimate" but announced his hiatus from the sport in search of Olympic success. Foster has confirmed that he will infact return to UFA where he holds a record of 5-1. The 1 loss coming to Sean Morrison after a broken wrist left him unable to compete in the final. This news will no doubt send the rest of the Heavyweight Division on notice, with Foster once being considered one of the best fighters in the world.

Main Event - Heavyweight Bout

Hassan Fezzik def Jonah Funk

UFA's 1st Title Defense went the distance. Funk and Fezzik went to war for the full 5 rounds. Funk was clearly the bigger man with about 45lbs over Hezzik. The 1st round ended and the fans did look restless, Fezzik had spent the first looking to work the cage and use distance as his advantage against the much bigger Funk. Fezzik then followed with a 2nd round victory after better timing secured a much more aggressive approach, although Funk was not far behind. The 3rd and 4th went the same way, with a slow but timed pace from both men. Using the cage where possible and landing shots then retreating. As the 5th began the 2 Heavyweights looked absolutely shattered, Funk especially. Funk then took Fezzik to the ground where things slowed down even more so, eventually with the referee having to bring a stalemate back to their feet. The crowd didnt get the result they were hoping for with these 2 heavy fisted fighters but Fezzik did secure his first defense with a big 50-45 score from all judges.

Official Result: Hassan Fezzik defeats Jonah Funk (Unanimous Decision in 5:00 of round 5).

Co Main Event - Upper Middleweight Bout

Terrance Bushman def Wade LeCavalier

A great co main event saw LeCavalier opened up in the 1st round albeit it a slow round with Bushman taking a narrow advantage. The 2nd saw Bushman the much more aggressive as he landed 14 strikes to LeCavaliers 1. Bushman clearly wanted to end this fight standing as he immediately landed a beautiful right kick to the head as soon as the 3rd began. LeCavalier covered up but a big right hand smashed through the guard and left LeCavalier on his back on the mat before being pounced on with huge punches.

Official Result: Terrance Bushman defeats Wade LeCavalier (TKO (Strikes) in 0:32 of round 3).

Lower Middleweight Bout

Brandon Sugar def Nevio Desio

Another great win in the Lower Middleweight Division is making it one of the most exciting divisions to be part of right now. Sugar took Desio down with a single leg, before isolating that leg and forcing him to submit to an Achilles Lock.

Official Result: Brandon Sugar defeats Nevio Desio (Submission (Achilles Lock) in 2:41 of round 1).

Lower Middleweight Bout

Jack Humphreys def Dan Halvorsen

Humphreys may have just leap frogged his way into a dominant position in this division. A huge win late in the 3rd via Rear Naked Choke, combined with a dominant win of both the 1st and 2nd round has shown that he is more than capable, especially against someone as skilled and respected as Halvorsen.

Official Result: Jack Humphreys defeats Dan Halvorsen (Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in 3:10 of round 3).

Heavyweight Bout

Christopher Sharp def Aki Hida

Hida was being eyed up as a contender in the Heavyweight Division, but a big loss here will surely hinder those chances. Sharp did well to get the finish when Hida had very closely taken the first 2 rounds. In a trend for this cards results, Sharp took to full mount in the 3rd and landed some sickening blows to Hida's face before the referee again was forced to stop the fight.

Official Result: Christopher Sharp defeats Aki Hida (TKO (Strikes) in 1:39 of round 3).

Upper Lightweight Bout

Lars Bohlin def Ezzatollah Karimi

Bohlin went in as the heavy underdog but managed to win both of the 1st 2 rounds. Heading into the 3rd, Bohlin had been in full control throughout the fight. With less than 1 minute left, Bohlin hit a takedown, Karimi pulling half guard. But that didnt stop an elbow slicing down. This allowed Bohlin to slide out of half guard and straight into mount. The elbows continued to smash Karimi and the referee jumped in pushing Bohlin off. Bohlin did well to finish a fight that he would have won by decision anyway.

Official Result: Lars Bohlin defeats Ezzatollah Karimi (TKO (Strikes) in 4:22 of round 3).

Heavyweight Bout

Tim Boyer def Jack Cobblepot

Cobblepot did very little in the opening 2 minutes before getting opened up under the eye. Boyer was on full attack, hooks followed jabs setting up combinations that ended with kicks to the leg, body and head. The latter being what ended the fight, after taking a slick right head kick Cobblepot was rocked to the mat and the referee jumped in to stop the fight.

Official Result: Tim Boyer defeats Jack Cobblepot (TKO (Strikes) in 4:10 of round 1).

Lower Middleweight Bout

Tyler Grafton def Mbwana De Sousa

Mbwana started off the aggressor, but Graffton managed to push him back against the cage. With a sweep of the leg, Grafton found time and space to get mount before locking in a monster arm bar.

Official Result: Tyler Grafton defeats Mbwana De Sousa (Submission (Armbar) in 4:16 of round 1).
