In a little less than an hour AEW is holding a rally to promote their Double or Nothing event.

Figured it was worth starting a thread to discuss the new promotion.

Also of note is that Shahid & Tony Khan own AEW. Cody and The Bucks have 0% stake in the company.

I'm man enough to admit it - ever since WCW... went away... I have mourned its loss like a family member. The arrival of AEW kinda feels like a nice big piece of my soul is being given back to me, somehow. It's been ... a while.. since I was so looking forward to something, really happy about this.

That Rally today was all kinds of fun to watch too. Really enjoyed that. And there are new confirmed signings now as well.

It'll live or die by a TV deal. The inability to get on TV is what made GFW dead on arrival, and we've all seen how much Impact have struggled to obtain and keep a TV deal over the last 7 or 8 years.

Of course the biggest ace they have to play is All In. The fact that they can turn to any network and demonstrate that with no TV, on reputation alone, these guys filled a 10k seat arena and put on the biggest non-WWE wrestling show in decades should impress and interest the suits.

The fact that their billionaire is already connected in media and sports should help out too.

This could really turn into something special.

I'm anxious for them to announce a TV deal myself. Seeing Chris Jericho show up at the Rally gives me all kinds of confidence in them though. I admit, I had a doubt or two in the beginning, but when Jericho showed up... I just knew this was going to be huge.

A TV deal, whenever it comes... and I do feel like it's a when, rather than an if... will be another giant brick for the foundation.

Really looking forward to how things develop, moving forward.

I know they announced the location and date for Double or Nothing, but was there any word on tickets? As soon as I told my wife they got Jericho she went looking but didnt find anything.

The women's division is a concern. They need to raid the indies hard before WWE do in the lead up to this year's Mae Young Classic.

I really wasn't expecting a live show for the AEW promotion initially. The events being live really doesn't matter as you can see from NXT. As long as AEW provides a different alternative, that's all that matters.

Just got done watching that announcement party, streamed live over the YouTubes. Fantastic stuff.... big matches announced for Double or Nothing.

OMG, they got Yuka Sakazaki on the show! Now I absolutely have to watch it. Her and Jericho on the same show is 100% effective bait for my money, even if the rest of the show turns out crap.

I really should be happy that she's getting exposure on what's likely to be a major US event, but now I'm getting paranoid that she might get poached from TJPW. :/

Stardom and DDT (mostly for TJPW) are the only wrestling services I subscribe to. I assume Aja Kong and Yuka are event-only deals like when ROH fly in Stardom talent for Women of Honor.

- Meltzer said Kenny signed a 4 year deal. He would have chosen WWE over New Japan if AEW weren't an option because WWE expressed more excitement at signing him than New Japan were to resign him.

- Ibushi's contract with NJPW would allow him to freelance with AEW and now Kenny's signed he's likely to show up at some point.

- LU talent can now perform for Impact and AEW because of the working agreements. To work elsewhere (like WWE or ROH) they would have to get out of their contracts via mutual agreement or the lawsuit.

I've fallen so much in love with the product of TJPW and DDT shows that TJP is the the one wrestling company that I stay completely up to date with every single event (Stardom and DDT have way more shows, too many for me to be able to spend the time watching everything especially since i also try my best to dig into old archived shows, so I do miss a number of events often). Anyway, my concern was more about the exposure putting Sakazaki (and TJPW) on WWE's scouting radar. Stardom is already subject to WWE raids, and I don't want that to happen to TJPW's already-small roster. Their current roster is perfect as it is. Like I said, it'll be good news for the wrestlers themselves to have their work seen by bigger crowds and more fans and I probably should be happy for them, but I'm just a little protective of my personal favourite promotion.

Japan is still going to have a place in my heart, a place in my life but AEW, for me, or even WWE, kinda seemed like the next step. [With] potential dream matches and all that, and sort of using the new platform, not necessarily a better one, or a bigger one or whatever. I just wanted a new platform to reach new people, to use my voice and my unique way of telling stories and all of that. I wanted just to change the stage that I had been performing on. I looked at all of the options, and one of the options that I almost went with was to actually stay full time with New Japan. Stay full time with New Japan but kind of be an under talent for AEW. I, again, like I said, my heart was really in Japan and I do look at that place as a home. A lot of those guys it’s hard to say goodbye to something that you’ve given everything to. I gave a lot of my time and my health to DDT but in a very different way. Even though it was a shorter period of time, I gave more of my soul to New Japan. To feel like you’re walking away from that was really difficult and I didn’t want to do it, and I wanted to give [NJPW President] Harold [Meij] a chance. I wanted to see how the presidency and the new regime would handle the company. In the end, for various reasons, it just wasn’t the best option. It was actually the worst option. Whether it be a time investment, or financial reasons, or creative reasons, there were better of those in the other two options available to me. For my main company to - I don’t want to say ‘not see the value in me,’ or that I didn’t feel valued - it wasn’t that. They certainly did [ value me]. I guess the best way to put it is that, the other two companies were more excited to have me. So WWE’s offer was fantastic, as [Meltzer] reported. And a lot of people just know, it’s common knowledge, but they went about it in a very professional, courteous way and those guys are nothing but constant professionals in the way they dealt with me. But at the end of the day, AEW presented something that was - they just couldn’t be beat. I’m with my best friends in the business, I have a little bit of control in the creative, which is always, of course, very important. And I really feel like it’s the true platform for me to sort of have my voice be heard and I always like challenges. And I like the prospect of this being a blundering failure. [WWE] is absolutely not a risk. Part of me was like, do I maybe want to shut my brain off? Have people write for me? Tell me what to do? It sounds kinda cool, actually. In New Japan, I would get creative and I’d try to think of - okay, I’ve been handed a basket full of lemons, how do I turn this in to lemonade? So I stay up late at night, I lose sleep, maybe I get physically ill or something because I’m trying to think of a way to tell the story that I know can be told from something that I know maybe didn’t have a lot of thought put in on their creative end. Mentally, I was very tired by the time Tokyo Dome rolled around, as much as I was physically. It was almost like there are two opposite ends of the spectrum, it’s like, do I have people that want me and want to use me to the best of my potential, but they kinda wanna dictate what I do? There’s nothing wrong with that. Or, do they kind of want Kenny Omega unleashed in AEW?...Both are still appealing. I can’t deny WWE has a ton of dream matches with guys that I would love to work with, and guys that are my friends. But just AEW is, like, I love the potential of being able to work with all of these incredible, unique talents from every corner of the globe essentially.” </div></blockquote>
